[ Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10] To see the Lieutenant squirm slightly with her flirtatious approach was rather enjoyable, especially at the though that he wasn't expecting her to speak that way. Clearly there was some internal battle going on and that only made him more attractive to the young Royal. However it seemed that her favourite kind of game was to be interrupted as Charlie then spoke to the object of her interest with talk about some article that he was due to help her with. Rather than show her displeasure at the thought of Joshua leaving, the reporter did placate the disappointment somewhat by suggesting that Elana speak to her about her life and that definitely interested Elana. Considering that she was still new to such attention and adoration, the thought of sharing what she did with potential fans and supporters to their cause definitely appealed. " That is certainly agreeable Ms Fox, I would like that opportunity" she said gracefully, as Joshua bid farewell and mentioned the possibility of them speaking later. " I look forward to that opportunity, Lieutenant".Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad to wait until she could capture his attention once more. But for now she watched as he left with Charlie, sighing slightly as she then returned her focus to Ensign Volante. Appreciating the compliment about her carefully chosen garment and the way the woman looked at her as her thoughts turned to how fortunate she was to be here and to receive the attentions of both sexes. " It certainly appears that way Ensign and thank you, it was made especially for this occasion and only the best Talorian silks and gems were used in its creation" she replied as Phoebe then asked about borrowing a tailor as she would need one in the future. At first Elana was unsure exactly what she meant by it, until she began pulling down the rather uncomfortable looking tunic, that the Bataq were wearing. " Would it not be more ... what's the word comfortable?, for you to remove such a cumbersome garment?, on Talor most of us prefer to be without such items and enjoy the freedom of our bodies on display for all to see. However I can certainly offer you a more freeing option if your superiors would let you wear one of my dresses".*************************** [ Relan - Ten Forward, Deck 10] After sampling some of the delights on offer, Relan was eager to try more, that was until he noticed an interesting looking woman talking to an older gentleman. That's what he assumed anyway as he was reminded of some of the ancient ones on his home world. Plus since everyone else in the delegation were talking to one or more Bataq, it only seemed appropriate that he should do the same and not be selfish by feasting and drinking by himself. So after taking a moment to swallow the last morsel on his plate, Relan stood to his full height and proceeded to walk over to the pair. " Greetings, I am Relan, Secondary Assistant to the Primary and I couldn't help but notice your markings" he said politely to Kaya with an equally polite nod in Sir Doug's direction.

Phoebe Volante - Ten Forward] Phoebe relaxed slightly as both the Lieutenant and Charlie left her with the Princess, before immediately tensing up again when realising she was with the Princess. Now she just had to try and keep her foot out of her mouth and things should go fine. "Well, those fine silks and gems do seem worthy of a royal dress, and they compliment your own beauty nicely." Complimenting her on her looks was fine wasn't it? She wouldn't get offended by being called good looking? Would anyone? The Ensigns cheeks flushed slightly when Elana mentioned her races favour towards nudity. She tried, and failed, to keep the comments from summoning images unbecoming of an officer in her mind. Phoebe smiled widely at the offer of a more regal outfit, "Unfortunately, it is protocol for us to wear these dress uniforms at formal events. Though you can rest assured that as soon as the event is over not even a Klingon could stand between me and my quarters so I can remove it." The flush in her cheeks grew slightly, "As for being naked, Humans tend to keep that to more private areas. And usually not with an audience."Phoebe cleared her throat to try and compose herself more, "That all being said, your offer to wear one of your dresses is extremely tempting, but I severely doubt my superiors would approve me requesting it. Especially not at such a formal affair. But I do appreciate the gesture, your Highness." She shuffled in her uniform once more before tugging it back into place, still smiling at the Princess, genuinely flattered by the offer she had made. Thea Baker (ELana)

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Jovireh immediately felt bad as T'Karra seemed quite shaken by her psionic contact. She would have to apologize later for the intrusion. It was not an action she made a habit of, but in the moment she had seen no other alternative that wouldn't send every bodyguard in the room over to surround the lieutenant. When the Vulcan seemed to understand her request and moved towards the group in question, Jov relaxed with a small sigh of relief. Kaelpra's quiet voice beside her pulled her from her thoughts, and she turned back to him with a reassuring smile. "I just did," she nodded her head towards T'Karra. "Don't worry, there's plenty people over there now to keep him from ruining these talks before they begin." She took another sip of her wine, selecting a piece of fruit from the table, hoping to convey that the Princess' choice of conversationalists was no longer a matter to be concerned about. "Being an empath certainly is useful when working security," she replied to his earlier statement. "Feeling emotions that stand out from the rest of the atmosphere helps me know where there might be a problem, so I can interfere before it actually becomes a problem." She often wondered why there weren't more empaths in the security field, but as each career path was an individual choice, she wasn't likely to ever get an answer to that. [Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]The Talorian advisor watched the situation surrounding the Princess play out, though he was listening as closely as ever to Jovireh. "Very useful, indeed," he said, his tone reflecting some awe, but on his face a very brief flash of an expression suggested he was feeling something else, too. "I wonder, can you read me, Jovireh?"He looked directly at her, unsure if she required eye contact or his full attention in order to use her gifts on him. "I would very much like to have you accompany us during our talks. If I requested it officially, would you agree to it?"

[...] And, well, that would mean he would leave Ensign Volante to the wolves with the princess... but even as a very junior officer, rank did have some privileges, and if he had to justify it later, well, he would say the truth: he was not disposed to risk a thoroughly avoidable diplomatic incident. "Indeed, Your Highness," he replied coolly. "But if you will excuse me, I will leave you in Ensign Volante's capable hands. Perhaps we will speak later?"Having made his evasions, he offered her, once more, a stiff bow before following the journalist out of that particular minefield. As he walked with Charlie, he remained silent, but he did make eye contact with the steward who'd served him earlier and discreetly gestured for a second (thoroughly synthehol) Old Fashioned, and it was not until they were safely clear that a cleansing breath entered his lungs and came out as a sigh of relief. "Thank you for getting me out of there," he then told Charlie, his face losing its wooden cast and replacing it with an expression of genuine gratitude. "Though I certainly didn't expert you to commit yourself to an interview with her on my behalf." [Charlie Fox - Ten Forward]Aside from the slight tightening of her jaw, Charlie gave no obvious reaction to the Princess' acceptance of her offer. A big part of her knew it was likely that Elana would accept, of course, she'd offered it as a way to soften the rudeness of her removing herself and Josh from the Talorian's company, but that didn't mean she had to like it. Once clear and out of earshot, they stopped, and when Charlie heard the sigh of relief, some amusement did flicker across her face to replace the blank stare. "Yeah... I won't enjoy that," she responded honestly when he spoke of the interview, her eyes automatically seeking out the glamorous figure of the Princess, who had turned her terrifying attention on Phoebe Volante. Then she shook her head and looked back at the Sec/Tac officer she'd just pulled out of a minefield. "I really, really don't like this, Josh. It's messed up." Her thoughts were running a mile a minute again. She just couldn't wrap her head around the prospect of the Talorians meeting all of the Federation conditions for membership consideration. Even if there had been no official blame levied at the deceased Orya and her traditionalist political party for those murders on the Jupiter Star, surely the subject of their barbaric, outmoded customs came up during talks with the Diplomatic Corps? Or had they even asked? Charlie Fox hated willful ignorance. She sighed herself then, and looked ruefully at the lieutenant. "Are you okay?"

[ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] Judging by the sigh and slight reluctance from the Commodore at the mention of going over to Supreme Commander and Charlie, wasn't going to be the highlight of his evening. Not that she blamed Perry considering he had bore the brunt of Command following the news that they would be the ones to ensure that the Talorian's reached the talks without another diplomatic incident. Perhaps that's why Perry had been somewhat distracted when he had called Isaiah by the wrong rank. Whatever the reason, Thea knew that she couldn't put off, greeting L'Sho any longer, especially as Perry went over first, just as the one named Derk't had already tried to intervene and stop anyone from getting to close to L'Sho. Having been in the Bodyguard's company during the tour, she was in full agreement as Isaiah suggested that they go back Perry up. " I agree, we don't want him to get on the wrong side of Derk't" she replied quietly as she then followed her boyfriend. As they reached the small group that had gathered around L'Sho, it appeared that the conversation starter, hadn't gone down to well. Although it was good to see Kaelpra engage with Velal as Isaiah spoke to L'Sho and introduced himself and Thea. " Primary L'Sho, Ms Fox" Thea said, greeting the pair whilst silently wishing that she had gone for something a little stronger than Champagne. However hoped that her and Isaiah's presence would go some way to diffuse any potential tension. ***************************
[ Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10] As tempting as it was to continue drinking in her assigned quarters, it wouldn't of looked good for her or her advisors, if she hadn't made an appearance at the reception. No she didn't want L'Sho to think that his presence would intimidate her and to prove that she wasn't like all Chu'pra, had gone without foot coverings, preferring to walk barefoot and have all eyes on her chosen outfit. Of course she could of gone completely nude but after some careful consideration and advice from He'tak, her main advisor had decided against it. No that time would come, when she took her rightful place but for now, walked behind Ostat and Lesal her chosen guards. This was in accordance to protocol, as the two burly and semi clothed men entered the lounge first. Then once the all clear was given, Elana followed along with her two advisors and assistants. Her dress flowing as she walked and engaged those in the room with a simple look.
Thea tags Isaiah Quinn Charlie Fox Admin, soft tags all from the Princess [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] [...] As he arrived, he caught the tail end of an exchange of greetings between Perry and L'Sho, both seemingly just missing the cue on the other's correct title. Isaiah wasn't sure if it was intentional or not. However, he was hoping to do what he he could to help diffuse the situation. He nodded in Charlie's direction, with a slight nod and smile. He was curious how she was doing, but posing the question aloud could likely serve as an insult towards L'Sho and that was something Isaiah didn't want to risk. "Primary L'Sho, I don't believe I've had the honor. I'm Lt. Isaiah Quinn, Chief of Science. I'm sure you've already met Lt. Commander Baker," Isaiah said. While he was rather certain that his diplomatic greeting didn't sit will with everyone, Charlie in particular, it was what the uniform demanded. Besides, they were looking to make peace with these people. For whatever reason, the Federation's diplomats thought they were at a point to move forward. It was their duty to do just that. [ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] [...] As they reached the small group that had gathered around L'Sho, it appeared that the conversation starter, hadn't gone down to well. Her dress flowing as she walked and engaged those in the room with a simple look. [ Commodore Calvin Perry - Ten Forward] Damn it, he'd done it again. Head in the game, Calvin. These people might eat you alive if you don't stay on your toes. The gallows humor did nothing for his current mood. Thankfully, Dr. Baker and Lt. Quinn followed him over and supplied the correct title in their own greetings before Perry had to return the nod with a slight head bob of his own. Indeed, Primary. We are here for the purpose of peace.
I hope you're finding your accommodations adequate. Again he kept his tone mild with no suggestion one way or the other whether he had a preference whether their guests were comfortable. Perry glanced over his shoulder as the doors opened again and admitted the new princess. As he was sure was the point, he watched as the dress flowed around her. [Primary L'Sho & Charlie Fox - Ten Forward, USS Mac]Charlie was glad to see the crowd building around the Primary; it gave her the chance to hopefully disengage from the tricky situation she'd walked herself right into. "Commander Baker," she greeted, before returning Isaiah Quinn's smile and nod. It was then, when all heads turned toward the entrance as the new Princess arrived fashionably late, that she took the opportunity to slip away. If she'd had Olsen she'd have been able to keep an eye, literally, on all interesting parties, but unfortunately she'd be spreading herself quite thinly that evening in order to ensure she got all angles. She picked up another flute of champagne and moved in the direction of the royal's entourage. Primary L'Sho, in the meantime, was also splitting his attention in multiple directions. "Lieutenant Quinn, Chief of Science, I am pleased to make your acquaintance." He gave the pair a deeper bow than he had Perry. "Lieutenant Commander Baker, on behalf of my people I would like to thank you for your efforts in welcoming us here."The gratitude was delivered in a flat tone, though nothing suggested that he was being disingenuous, rather he appeared distracted. His cold stare still on the young Elana, he answered Commodore Perry's query. "Our accommodations are quite adequate. You will find my staff less demanding than our more traditionalist counterparts."
Tags: Admin , Thea Baker and Isaiah Quinn . Exit immediate area Charlie. [ Commodore Calvin Perry - Ten Forward] Perry blinked at the Primary's emphasis, unsure what he meant. As far as the commodore knew, there hadn't been any complaints from any of the Talorians. Deciding to let the comment pass, he said, All right, then. Please be sure to let us know if you or your people need anything. The gathering across the room caught his attention, and Perry watched with concern as the princess approached Lt. Niles. Thankfully, Charlie Fox seemed to be taking care of him, as in keeping him away from a potentially volatile situation, and he relaxed slightly as the princess began speaking with the other security officer while Ms. Fox led Niles away.

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Lifting her glass to her lips, she sipped thoughtfully at his inquiry. Thus far she hadn't empathically picked anything up from any of the Talorians in the room, but they may simply be a more emotionally reserved people. She focused, allowing her gaze to meet his, and paused for a moment before responding. "I'm reading a little bit of apprehension, mixed with curiosity, but it's faint. Feels almost... Distant." Perhaps it was their aquatic nature that made them more difficult to read than other Federation species. At his following question, a jolt of surprise nearly made her spit her wine straight back into the glass. Covering her mouth with the back of her hand, she turned away to quickly compose herself, fumbling over her answer. "There are other Betazoids in Starfleet of much higher rank and with more diplomatic experience than I..." Her voice trailed off as she met his gaze once more. No... He didn't just want a Betazoid there, he wanted her there. She was the one that had earned his trust, and he was showing her a friendly courtesy of asking her permission, when he could just as easily go straight to her superiors and have her ordered to attend the talks. Jovireh took a deep, steadying breath before she nodded in acceptance. "If you are able to convince my superiors, I would be honored to attend the talks." Well, this event was certainly becoming something to write home about, and she had a feeling it was going to be a rather long letter. Charlie Fox (Kaelpra)

[Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Ten Forward] [...] "If this was a normal summit, they probably would've sent a different crew, professional diplomats, all of that, especially after our history, and they'd keep Niles far away," he said. They'd probably also keep him - Sir Doug - far away too. "I don't know who thought this is a good idea." Certainly, Sir Doug thought the Talorians needed a lot more skilled hands to handle them than these. [ Relan - Ten Forward, Deck 10] [...] So after taking a moment to swallow the last morsel on his plate, Relan stood to his full height and proceeded to walk over to the pair. " Greetings, I am Relan, Secondary Assistant to the Primary and I couldn't help but notice your markings" he said politely to Kaya with an equally polite nod in Sir Doug's direction. [ PO1 Kaya Som | Ten Forward ]What you hoped to hear from a centuries-old being in a suit of that color were notes of reassurance, but what Dugris Zaman delivered was vaguely ominous, which was all well and good when so far the only expectations of Kaya Som were to Behave and gossip with the help. She shrugged at Sir Doug's evaluation; she didn't know either. Commodore Perry was there attending to the new Princess Elana. Surely, he had this under control. But Kaya and Sir Doug's safe solutide did not last much longer. A tall Talorian approached them with an empty plate and an unusual greeting. "Hello, Relan. I am from Trill," Kaya supplied helpfully. Some cultures spoke more openly about physical differences than others. She tucked some hair behind her hear so her spots were easier to see. "We've all got them and everyone's are different. My name is Kaya Som and this is Sir Doug. He's El-Aurian. They don't all dress like that," she added with a wink. Dugris Zaman Thea Baker (Relan)

Or had they even asked? Charlie Fox hated willful ignorance. She sighed herself then, and looked ruefully at the lieutenant. "Are you okay?" [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac]While he'd had some limited success acting as a diplomatic liaison, and as a crisis negotiator, diplomacy was hardly Niles' favoured battlefield. And this was what this reception hall was, so far as he was concerned. But unlike something as straightforward as starship combat at relativistic velocities, with targets measured in meters to be struck with surgical precision at ranges measurable in tens or hundreds of thousands of kilometers, when having to calculate firing solutions on the fly, while balancing shields, and not interfering with his own targeting sensors between light-lag and the returns from active emissions, and so many other details that one had to keep in mind while wrangling enough firepower to sterilize an M-class planet should one have the mind to do so... or fail to do everything right. Now that they'd beaten their hasty retreat, Josh made absolutely no effort to keep the princess where he could see her; the stark resemblance to her late sister was such that he could not help but picture her covered in blood, gnawing on human organs, and that was the sort of image he did not want to keep in his head any more than he absolutely had to. And, looking at Charlie, she seemed to be very much in the same boat he was in that regard. As he was about to answer her, he immediately clamped his mouth shut as the steward brought him his drink, choosing not to let himself be overheard by the event staff; he hardly needed more people assuming he was mere millimeters away from beating members of the Talorian delegations to death. Though, once the coast was clear, he brought his tumbler to his nose and he let the smell fill it; synthehol-based 'bourbon' was close enough to the real stuff that most might not be able to tell the difference; but to an aficionado such as himself, he could tell there was a slight lack the astringent feeling in his nostrils, and that the mouthfeel and burn would different from what he would much prefer. But given he had to remain clear-headed, that was all he could allow himself. However, at the last moment, he stopped himself from sipping from the drink, and instead he offered it to the journalist. "I know," he answered softly. "I have no idea what they were thinking." As he spoke, he gently reached out with his hand of flesh-and-blood and touched her elbow. "I think I can keep it together until this is over... how are you holding up?"

"It certainly appears that way Ensign and thank you, it was made especially for this occasion and only the best Talorian silks and gems were used in its creation" she replied as Phoebe then asked about borrowing a tailor as she would need one in the future. At first Elana was unsure exactly what she meant by it, until she began pulling down the rather uncomfortable looking tunic, that the Bataq were wearing. "Would it not be more ... what's the word comfortable?, for you to remove such a cumbersome garment?, on Talor most of us prefer to be without such items and enjoy the freedom of our bodies on display for all to see. However I can certainly offer you a more freeing option if your superiors would let you wear one of my dresses".Phoebe relaxed slightly as both the Lieutenant and Charlie left her with the Princess, before immediately tensing up again when realising she was with the Princess. Especially not at such a formal affair. But I do appreciate the gesture, your Highness." She shuffled in her uniform once more before tugging it back into place, still smiling at the Princess, genuinely flattered by the offer she had made. [Ten Forward, Deck 10, USS Mac] As the Lieutenant and the reporter made their hasty withdraw, T'Karra remained and listened to Ensign Volante and the Princess' continued conversation. When the dialogue spiraled down into topics that many would consider to be indelicate for public discussion, her eyebrows nearly ascended to her hairline. Could the Princess' time not be better spent discussing the nuanced details of Federation admission requirements rather than public nudity? She also had to wonder how many hours both parties were dedicating to these receptions and their "small talks" regarding the finer points of extravagant Talorian fashion. Her eyes flitted to the colossal royal guardsmen and she tried to gauge whether they approved of the conversation topics or if this was indeed inappropriate discourse. She was surprised to find their eyes glazed over. Whether it was due to boredom or because the ambient environment lacked the appropriate levels of humidity for their amphibious guests, she could not say. After a few moments, one of the guards glanced in her direction and stared. She returned the look with an unaffected blink and turned her attention back to the Ensign's response. T'Karra was relieved to find that her human counterparts considered potential exhibitionism to be... immodest at the very least. The woman's qualifier of "usually" raised some questions but those were better left for another time. For now, it seemed best to remain quiet unless spoken to so she folded her hands behind her back and remained vigilant.

Dugris Zaman Thea Baker (Relan) [Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Ten Forward]Sir Doug was a little surprised to be joined by the Talorian. He knew that just about everyone was out for information, but it was still now his first interaction with one. The question asked was less surprising. "That's right. Sir Doug Zaman, at your service," he introduced himself, after Kaya had introduced him. Naturally, Sir Doug thought, perhaps he could figure out now what the rumblings were on the lower decks of the other side. He was curious. "What do you make of all these negotiations?" he asked.

[ Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10] If Elana appeared disappointed at the thought of Phoebe potentially turning down her offer, the Princess kept it well hidden. Then again when she received such compliments and looks from the Ensign regarding her beauty, it was easy to forget that this wasn't Talor Prime so decided to have a little fun amongst the seriousness of why she was currently on the very Starship that was involved in L'Sho's and her Sister's first encounter with the Bataq. " That is most pleasing to hear that you appreciate my dress and how it compliments me" Elana replied, her tone appreciative, even if she didn't quite understand why Phoebe seemed to falter for a moment. Whatever it was, diminished quickly as the Ensign smiled and then explained about the reasoning behind the uncomfortable garments and how Humans perceived nudity. " I believe I understand now and perhaps a change could be in order to provide a more comfortable option for such occasions like this, as for Humans and nudity, I appreciate that not all cultures are the same as us".As she said this, Elana became aware of the silent exchange between Ostat and their security escort T'Karra. Although passed no comment as Phoebe captivated her attention further in regards to why she couldn't accept her offer, at least for now. " No matter, I'm sure that there will be other opportunities for you to do so, consider it a gift before we depart".Elana then thought for a moment and spoke again. " I'm keen to learn more about this crew, perhaps we can start by recommending what drink I should try whilst we talk".************************ [ Relan - Team Kaya, Deck 10] At first Relan hoped that his directness hadn't caused any offence, however that particular concern quickly evaporated as Kaya introduced herself and the El Aurian who she had been talking to. The careful tuck of hair behind her ear, hadn't gone unnoticed either but for Relan her markings were unlike anything he had seen until now. That didn't stop him from being polite though as she winked in regards to the outfit Sir Doug was wearing and the Talorian smiled as he figured out what she had meant. " It is a great honour to meet you both" Relan replied, after Sir Doug had confirmed who he was. Although when asked what he made of the negotiations, Relan hesitated for a moment, before giving his response. " It's not my place to discuss such matters as I am just a lowly assistant, here to ensure that the Primary has everything he needs, but I am thankful for the opportunity to meet and talk with others that don't come from Talor Prime".

Phoebe Volante - Ten Forward] Phoebe thought for a moment, "Humans are a more, informal race. More than likely we would be uncomfortable in formal situations regardless of our clothing. One of our quirks I guess." The womans smiled widened at the open offer to try a regal dress, "It would be my pleasure to fill out one of your dresses. Plus, it would be rude to turn down a gift, especially a royal one."Drinks? What kind of drink would the Princess enjoy? "A drink? Of course, since we are talking about formalities a perfect start would be Champagne." She gestured for one of the servers walking around with the Champaigne on trays, "Traditionally it was an expensive drink and only drunk by nobles and royalty, giving it the reputation of being a upperclass drink. So it is probably the most commoly served drink at formal affairs. Though I must admit, it is not one my my favourates, I'm more of a cocktail lady."When the drinks arrived she offered one to the Princess, took one herself and offered one to T'karra, "As for the crew, that's a more tender topic right now." She cleared her throat as she considered how to approach the subject, "While myself and, I believe, T'karra here were not around at the time, many of the crew were present the last time we encountered the Talorians. And I'm told Primary L'Sho was less than hospitable when the crew handed over your predecessor and companions. Though we are here now to discuss the Talorians entrance to the Federation, so it can't have been that bad. But I do ask forgiveness for any animosity that may be directed at you due to that event." [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] In all honesty, it seemed as if they were in a furnace on the verge of exploding rather than a social gathering serving as a prelude to the Talorians' entrance into the Federation. Isaiah's eyes skimmed the room, and all he could see was the potential for it all to go straight to hell at every turn. First, it was the sight of Charlie Fox finding herself in the company of Princess Elana, and shortly joined by Lt. Niles. It was like the pair of them had tractor beams for danger attached to them. Luckily, they excused themselves which brought some relief. Though, Isaiah wasn't certain if leaving the Princess in Ensign Volante's company was a better alternative. Granted, she hadn't been aboard at the time, but Volante seemed to speak her mind rather openly from what Quinn had observed on their last mission. Not always the best at... filtering. Perhaps Crewman T'Karra would help temper that situation. Quinn's full attention was once again on Primary L'Sho. He didn't think leaving the Primary and the Commodore alone was any better of an idea. Small talk seemed to be petering out, and Quinn thought it best to stir the pot once more. Primary L'Sho, if I may, I'd like to express my excitement in seeing your people join the Federation. I'm curious if there are any particular member worlds you're looking forward to visiting at some point in the future. I know that several members of our crew are interested in just seeing your world. I, personally, wouldn't mind visiting the mountain range in the Eastern hemisphere of your world. The holo-images alone are quite captivating."

[ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] As both Charlie and Primary L'Sho returned her greeting and the Talorian Leader, thanked her for her efforts in welcoming them. Thea smiled in response, happy that things seemed to have been diffused by their arrival. That was until the Primary answered the Commodore and it was clear that L'Sho was no fan of the Princess or her entourage. Then again it wasn't surprising given what they had witnessed with how they had handled Orya. However as long as she didn't have to pick sides and keep the peace between everyone, then hopefully the journey wouldn't be too eventful. The goal to reach Argus Major without incident was something she wanted to achieve as Charlie then left the group and was immediately cornered by the Princess. Naturally she wondered how that encounter would go, especially when they moved towards Niles and Volante, closely followed by T'Karra. This was where she got a little worried, given Niles's less than enthusiastic response to being ordered to attend. Luckily it appeared as though Charlie thought the same, when the Princess became enamoured by the Security officer and promptly led him away from a potential blow up. Now Thea just wanted everyone to get through the reception, quietly observing the rest of the room and those who were speaking to members of the delegation, as the Commodore responded to L'Sho and Isaiah engaged in the Primary in conversation. Realising what her Boyfriend was doing, Thea once again appreciated having him by her side as it was now a case of ensuring that no one got offended as she added to what was said. " I too found the holo images stunning and your home world is beautiful Primary and whilst I'm here, you'll be happy to know that we have followed the recipes that were sent to us, in order to provide Talorian cuisine and refreshments".

[Primary L'Sho - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"I do not believe that the rest of your people share your sentiments, Lt. Quinn," L'Sho told the man when he declared his happiness at the prospect of the Talorians joining the Federation. He looked at him coolly, but his eyes brightened a little as he continued, "I cannot say any of your worlds have captured my attention. For the moment, my attention remains firmly on ensuring the success of my people. However," he gestured with an arm toward his advisor, Kaelpra, glass of untouched ordure still in hand, "That is not a sentiment shared by all."He did appreciate their words about Talor Prime, and the beauty of the East Mountains. "A place for quiet reflection," he said of it, "Our priests often spend several seasons in silence there before taking their vows." L'Sho himself had grown up close to one such retreat. His tired muscles and cold feet cried out for the naturally occurring hot springs. Despite the conversational turn, he was still closely watching the Princess and the crowd gathering around her. He was displeased that she hadn't approached him first, and certain that he would not be the one to make the first move. "Is that human lieutenant not one of the crew present on the USS Mac during our first fateful meeting, Perry?" He asked the Commodore. Unlike the Princess, Primary L'Sho did his homework. He narrowed his eyes at the man in charge, and then looked at both Quinn and Baker. "And you both, you were also present. This seems... ill-advised."

[Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]The Talorian diplomatic advisor remained still, watching Jovireh as she attempted to use her abilities on him. He didn't think he felt any differently, but there was a sense that she was, indeed, doing something. He couldn't quite put his finger on it. Perhaps it was all wishful, imaginative thinking, but maybe there was something to it. Kaelpra nodded when she correctly identified curiosity and apprehension. He waited while she worked through his request, though he had moved slightly closer to her, as though intent on offering her some assistance when she struggled a little with her wine. Then, when she recovered and acquiesced, he smiled. She was smart enough to realise that had he wanted another Betazoid, or in fact, absolutely anyone else, then he would have asked for exactly that. No, Crewman Jovireh Velal was the right choice for him. "And I would be honoured to have you." He took another sip of the uttaberry wine, it really was very good, before giving her an unofficial rundown of what was to come. "Once we have clearance from your superiors, I will introduce you to the members of our delegation who will be in attendance. In truth, Jovireh, I feel no anxiety over speaking with the Federation, rather I fear that our two opposing factions will not be able to put aside their differences. The new Princess has the backing of the traditionalist party of Talor Prime, and they are comprised of some of the wealthiest, most influential families in our capitol city. Primary L'Sho, on the other hand, has the support of our military forces, and has an eye for expansion. They have positioned themselves on different sides of the same mountain."And either would punish him harshly if they overheard what he was saying to the Starfleet officer. But Kaelpra was a man of science, and he was a pragmatist. "It will be a relief to me to have an extra pair of eyes, ears and another perspective to hand. Thank you."
Tag: Jovireh Velal ~~~ [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac]While he'd had some limited success acting as a diplomatic liaison, and as a crisis negotiator, diplomacy was hardly Niles' favoured battlefield. "I think I can keep it together until this is over... how are you holding up?" [Charlie Fox - Ten Forward]Without hesitating, Charlie just took the offered glass. "The least they could do is give us real booze. This is cruel and unusual." Still, she brought it to her lips and took a taste, believing that at least the act and sensation might provide a little comfort. "I'm fine," she said then, an automatic response as always, and handed the man back his bourbon. "I'm under orders to keep things light. Nothing inflammatory, write about everyone playing nicey-nice with each other and the fabulous futures we all have together." She shrugged one shoulder and arched a brow as she watched him, waiting for reactions. "I had a go at L'Sho, he's a tough nut to crack."He'd engaged in some strange, dangerous banter with her, but there was nothing she could use and besides if there had been, she'd have had to stow it for another day when these talks were well over. If she didn't, she'd be looking for a new job. A flash of mischief crossed her face as an idea suddenly occurred to her. "Want to get out of here?"

She cleared her throat as she considered how to approach the subject, "While myself and, I believe, T'Karra here were not around at the time, many of the crew were present the last time we encountered the Talorians. Though we are here now to discuss the Talorians entrance to the Federation, so it can't have been that bad. But I do ask forgiveness for any animosity that may be directed at you due to that event."[Ten Forward, Deck 10, USS Mac] T'Karra took the offered glass, and listened in on the Ensign's impromptu history lesson on the Terran beverage. Having discovered during her graduation that ethanol beverages had no effect on Vulcan physiology (much to the dismay of her fellow graduates), she saw no harm in taking a sip. The taste of the carbonated drink was slightly bitter with hints of orange and white cherry. She wasn't quite sure if she liked it or not. She offered Ensign Volante a nod of agreement as the woman guessed correctly that the both of them had not been aboard the USS Mac during the discovery of the Jupiter Star. However, absence was no excuse for ignorance on her part. She had read the articles and snippets of mission logs discussing the massacre in regrettably graphic detail; surely everyone in delegations on both sides possessed similar knowledge. It had been wise for Ensign Volante to acknowledge what was causing the tension in the room and redirect attention to the true purpose of their meeting. Apologizing for Starfleet's animosity, something which the officer had no control over, had the potential to pacify relations. Now it was just a matter of determining whether the Princess and her delegation were truly interested in peace and their people's acceptance into the Federation. Thea Baker , Phoebe Volante
