[ Amira Leran - Unknown Location, Serenity] She could tell by his amused expression that her well aimed kick had barely registered where it had landed. Desperation and fear took hold once more as she sealed her own fate by inadvertently helping him to choose his first target. There was nothing that Amira could do as he gripped her left leg and removed her sock and shoe. Then as he began, sobs built up within her but despite the pain, refused to give him any satisfaction as she frantically tried another approach. " You don't have to do this, surely there's another way that we could settle this, I've seen the way you look at me".
Tag Judith Eastman [Jaggah - Unknown Location, Serenity]A psychologist might write reams about Jaggah's twisted mind, but suffice it to say, he liked inflicting pain. He also happened to rather like feet. {Content warning: Torture}"There's nothing you can give me that I can't take," he growled, as he took the probe and thrust it at the arch of her foot. The plentiful nerve endings on the foot of many species made it an effective spot to inflict pain. And besides, he just liked feet. He didn't know why, and he didn't much care.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ]While the Tactical Officer had given the report on the satellites and planned sensor net, he knew it had not been a Tactical-only show. The Science department were the ones who were the best suited in coming up with the right mix of capabilities. Tactical and Science both required some of the same capabilities, but they also had widely divergent requirements at times. Science required multi-spectral capability, Tactical had a need for high resolution and tracking. And at times the two could be mutually exclusive within the same platform; that was the reason starships carried several sensor suites, for different purposes. However, he was satisfied with what had been achieved. And while he listened to the power generation and agricultural parts of the briefing, Niles did not exactly pay close attention to it, as it was beyond his scope of expertise and his missions responsibilities. However, with Petty Officer Velal having been handling material handling and the various manifests, that meant she would have a specific task to accomplish on the surface. "Petty Officer Velal, once we get on the surface, unless Commander Quinn has different tasks for you, since you're familiar with the materiel and the intended recipients, I'll have you handling the warehousing and distribution."After all, he could not do that and oversee the setup activities for the satellites, sensor, weapons and communications platforms. And, since he had someone already familiar with the specifics within his own department, might as well make use of that background.

Jovireh didn't like surprises, and the last couple missions had been full of them. When Lt. She had spent enough time with those crates that morning that a lot of it she already had memorized, so it made sense that she'd be able to get the job done quickly.

[Lt Shavan Th’zhaar - Observation Lounge] He listened and continued reviewing the reports as the others spoke. Quinn then took his turn to voice some interesting concerns, leaving Shavan to finish the report for the science department. “The science team has been working with Engineering in the designs for agricultural improvements and with Tactical in the plans for the satellite system,” he acknowledged the two that had already reported. The former he knew relatively little about, personally, but the latter fell within his own experience. Since the colony was fairly small and simple, they didn’t have much need for improvements to their technology, but the science team had worked with other departments in doing what was necessary. “Additionally, we have cooperated with the colonists in designing improvements to their renewable energy systems including building new solar arrays.” He paused and addressed Commander Quinn’s question. “There was nothing in the data provided by the colonists to explain a need for increased energy usage.” Maybe it was suspicious. [PO3 Jovireh Velal - USS Mac - Observation Lounge]The officers each gave their department reports in turn, and Jovireh listened intently. When Quinn requested her assistance reviewing the incident logs and speaking with the locals, she nodded. "Of course, sir." It wasn't long ago that she would have been stunned by a senior officer turning to her for such matters, especially when there was a higher ranking security and tactical officer sitting across the table from her. But after the last mission, she was becoming more accustomed to the idea that others realized her experience and skillset were valuable. She just silently hoped that Lt. Niles wouldn't take offense to it; but since they'd be working together while at the colony, she hoped it would provide a chance for them to actually get to know each other beyond recognition and reputation. When it was her turn to speak, she glanced down at the PADD she'd brought with her, though it wasn't really necessary. "I did a final check of the cargo containers, and compared them against the inventory manifest. Everything is in order and ready for transport." There were certainly a lot of containers. It had taken her the better part of the morning to go over it all to make sure nothing was missing, or included without authorization. Hearing that the colony would only be getting supply runs twice a year, and the Mac was their only relief in case of emergencies or threats, it made sense now. [Observation Lounge - Deck 1] With no further questions from those gathered, the meeting continued onward as the away team began to give their reports. It was no surprise that overestimations had been made as Niles spoke first, but at least he was now aware of the exact situation so his plans could be modified and changed to suit the colony's needs. " I understand that these things happen but that's why we learn to adapt and I'm certain that Sheriff Marais will appreciate what you come up with".Then it was Chief Som who spoke next who seemed to have every thing covered from Engineering's perspective. Impressed again that they had reached out to those they'd be helping directly and there would a lot of department crossover. " Excellent Chief and I look forward to hearing more about those practices and I can see the appeal".When it came to Isaiah who had been equally thorough with his findings and reviews. The mention of some possible discrepancy with the supply requests was indeed intriguing and was happy to let him proceed with his plan for Mara and gaining feedback from those present. Listening as he spoke to the others before he smiled in her direction and didn't doubt that they would get to the bottom of it. " Whether it's something straightforward or not, I'm sure that we will get answers we need".Thea's attention then moved to Shavan who had been working with Engineering as well as looking at ways to provide energy to the colony and it was also impressive. Although when he answered Isaiah's question perhaps there was a mystery after all, before Petty Officer Velal agreed to Isaiah's request and confirmed that everything was ready to transport. " Great work both of you, I have faith that Serenity will be in very good hands" she said then looked to Isaiah. " Commander Quinn is there anything else you like to add?, I'd also like you to remain briefly once the meeting ends".****************[Nurse Tania Logan - Observation Lounge]
Tania had remained relatively quiet as she listened to Dr Baker and the others whilst referring to the data and adding extra details. When she was then asked a direct question, the nurse straightened and thought about it for a moment.
" Not that I can think of, there was nothing obvious as such but figured since it would be such a huge gap between drop offs that it was just the colonists being over cautious".
Whatever was going on she would relay all of this to Left Ear before she joined the away team.
[ CPO Kaya Som | Observation Lounge ]Kaya leaned forward to answer Lieutenant Quinn directly. "Actually, it could, Lieutenant. If they're using cover crops to maintain soil quality then that's twice as much use of field equipment - twice as much sowing, maintenance, and harvesting. Science teams might have better data on the geology of it, weather conditions. Still, I'm not sure if that'd be enough to account for your numbers." [ LT Joshua Niles - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ]While the Tactical Officer had given the report on the satellites and planned sensor net, he knew it had not been a Tactical-only show. The Science department were the ones who were the best suited in coming up with the right mix of capabilities. She had spent enough time with those crates that morning that a lot of it she already had memorized, so it made sense that she'd be able to get the job done quickly. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ] Isaiah listened to the reset of the reports, including Lieutenant Shavan as he explained the contributions of the Science Team. In all honesty, the team had been spread to work with several departments to meet the quotas in the manifest. Isaiah also listened as both Nurse Logan and Chief Som answered his questions about how activity on the colony justified the numbers. While their explanations were sound, it still seemed there was a gray area. Lt. Niles had also conferred with Velal, wanting to make certain that she would oversee the distribution of the goods. His eyes finally shifted to Commander Baker, as she asked if he had anything he'd like to add. "Not really," Isaiah stated. "I'd like to suggest assessing the state of the colony before bringing down the supplies. It would give us the opportunity to speak with Ms. Rexan and make certain everything's in order before transporting the materials." His eyes moved along the table to see if there were any notable objections. Doing so in this order would allow him to solicit Velal's help briefly before returning her to her duties Niles had mentioned. His eyes then rested on Thea once again. "Other than that, I have nothing further to contribute," Isaiah said, leaving it to Thea to officially end the briefing.

[ Amira Leran - Unknown Location, Serenity] Even the prospect of Jaggah getting his satisfaction in a different kind of physical way repulsed the hybrid. But that was the only alternative she could think of as he continued to fixate on her feet. " Maybe you can but it's your loss as I'll make an arrangement with Magee instead".Amira knew how competitive these men were and it was last ditch attempt to offer him something else, before he almost succeeded in making her cry out in pain. All this because she had refused to make another batch of the corrosive alkali that they used to terrorise the colonists. No she had enough of their bullying and threats and could only hope that she held on long enough until help finally arrived.

[Observation Lounge - Deck 1] As the meeting began to wind down with Kaya answering Isaiah's query and Niles discussing a plan of action with Velal for when they reached the surface depending on Isaiah's orders. Thea smiled, happy to see everything coming together and was confident that the mission would go smoothly even if they had a potential mystery on their hands. Although she was sure that it would be resolved as her science chief boyfriend answered her directly and made a suggestion regarding the supplies. Thea thought about it for barely a moment or two and until they knew what was going on, it made a lot of sense to hold off on delivering the supplies. " Good idea, I'll have support have the supplies ready to go but to only beam them down once we've heard from you". As Isaiah also added that he had nothing else to contribute, Thea nodded then addressed all of them. " Okay let's get ready for our arrival, dismissed".Once everyone had left, Thea turned to Isaiah and looked at him. " I might not have chance to do this later, but I just wanted to let you know, that I love you and know that you'll do well down there".

Tag Judith Eastman [Jaggah - Unknown Location, Serenity]Jaggah's skin flushed greener than usual, with anger. He was very defensive of his pride and masculinity, after all. "You can prostitute yourself after you make us another batch," he growled. Then, he put away the energy tool and retrieved a saw. "Let's continue this conversation, now shall we?" he asked menacingly, as he wielded it.

[Serenity Colony - Main Street, An Hour Later] With the Mac aware that the colony were having issues with their communication systems. There was no immediate cause for concern when they failed to answer when the ship entered orbit. Although Thea did offer words of caution as the team beamed down to the pre arranged coordinates approximately ten minutes later. As the view materialised around them, they would see that the town was made up of various stone buildings surrounded by lush green fields. Some were bare whilst others were filled with crops. In the middle of the town stood a large fountain with benches and a white path around it and that's where they would find Mara Rexan and five other people waiting for them. " Welcome to Serenity" Mara called out, her demeanour belying the terror inside.

The town was beautiful. The low profile of the buildings allowed them to see the vastness of the green landscape. She could see why the colonists had chosen this place and why they wanted to keep things simple. Not that Kaya would want to be so isolated from the hubbub of the galaxy - but she could see why someone would in such a beautiful place. It was so chill. Made a person not want to rush along.
When she saw Mara Rexan there was the tiniest little boost to her spirit, just seeing another Trill around.
She knew there'd be formalities and introductions before they could be shown around and get set up for the complex tasks at hand, so Kaya waited with the two others on her engineering team.

[PO3 Jovireh Velal - Serenity Colony - Main St.]
As they transported down to the surface, Jovireh felt a thrill of excitement that she hadn't experienced for a long time. Finally she was on a mission doing what she had trained so hard and so long for - assisting with the protection of the away team and the colonists. As such, she had her full duty belt secured on her waist, though phaser was still holstered as they expected the lack of communication from the surface to be nothing more than technological malfunction.
As they materialized on the surface, she turned her head to slowly take in the scene around them. There weren't as many people as she had expected, but there were a few gathered by the fountain. The Trill greeted them warmly, but Jov suddenly felt a spike of emotion - fear? - from the other woman. It was faint, and brief, but enough to cause her brow to furrow in concern and her hand shifted so it rested beside her phaser.
Without a word she took a step back from the rest of the away team and pivoted slowly, her gaze carefully taking in everything she could see. So far she wasn't finding anything that necessitated alerting the others, but she would remain cautious and alert to their surroundings. The last thing any one needed was an ambush.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Serenity Colony, Main Street ]With the meeting adjourned, Niles briefly had the time to swing by his quarters to gather up what he would need. Beaming down for an away mission carrying a briefcase was a new one for him, but even if the materiel he would be helping getting setup on the surface would not be coming until a little later, he would need access to his reference materials and plans in order to work with the Sheriff and his people when finalizing his assessment. However, the tricorder and phaser at his belt were familiar, and reassuring weights. Of course, they were going down for a colony support mission, and none of the threat assessments they'd gotten pointed to any kind of hostile presence down there beyond some of the wildlife. But, regulations were regulations. Upon transporting to the surface, Joshua could not help but let out a low whistle at the scenery before him. He had read how local materials had been used in construction, but he found himself surprised by just how picturesque the scene was and just how little modern technology was in evidence. In fact, it almost felt like he was visiting a historical site like Upper Canada Village just a hundred and fifty kilometers from his native Kingston. It was, frankly, a very pretty village and something struck him as oddly wrong about introducing the kind of tech he was tasked with to this setting. Shortly after they materialized, they were greeted by a woman whom he did recognize from the dossier as the colony's current leader, but the Lieutenant said nothing; as senior officer on the ground, it was Commander Quinn's job to introduce everyone. However, from the corner of his eye, he caught how Petty Officer Velal had stiffened and her hand moved towards her weapon, though she'd yet to draw, and he moved to stand right next to her. "PO[fn]Pronounced Pee-Oh[/fn], something wrong?"

After Nurse Tania had filled her in, Left Ear had quietly joined the away team in the transporter room. She was mostly along as an observer, to see if any of the methods on this colony would be helpful on Kerelia. Certainly the Starfleet officers would be making their own notes, but Left Ear knew more about how things would coordinate with the Sivaoan methods they were trying to use.
She carried her usual satchel with scanner, usefuls, PADD and both Sivaoan and Starfleet medkits. Left Ear tucked herself at the back of the group, not wanting to interfere with the official team in any way.
Left Ear caught Niles asking Jovireh about something and twitched one ear that direction as her eyes darted about taking everything in.

Commander Isaiah Quinn - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ] As the observation lounge began to empty out, Isaiah soon found himself alone with Thea. With the pair of them alone, Isaiah had to admit that he felt a tad anxious. Perhaps it was the new dynamic between the pair of them. This was the first time that he'd found himself directly under her command. Yet, when she spoke, it was simply to let him know that she loved him, and that she was confident that he'd do okay down on the away mission. "Well, I'm glad someone thinks so," Isaiah said with a smile. He eventually nodded. "You're right," he conceded. "This one's a walk in the park. We'll be back before you know it. Think about dinner for later. Personally, I've got a craving for seafood."
[Serenity Colony - Main Street] The transporter room soon gave way to the fresh openness of Serenity Colony. Isaiah slowly looked around, taking in the surroundings. Personally, it was all a little too calm for him. It was likely a hazard of growing up in New York City. The sound of life was typically synonymous with metropolitan. He noticed only a brief exchange between his security officers, but for the time being there didn't seem to be anything important enough to bring to his attention. "All right, everyone," Isaiah said aloud to the away team, "let's meet the locals."Isaiah began to move towards the six locals that were gathered near the fountain. As he moved through, his eyes casually took in the surroundings. With each step, he could see just how low-tech, as Kaya had put it, the people of Serenity were looking to live. Quinn wondered if their simplicity had anything to do with their not responding to the Mac's hails. There didn't appear to be any immediate distress, but perhaps this was their opportunity to get to the bottom of things. "Ms. Rexan?" Isaiah said as he got close enough to the Trill woman and the rest of the locals that had gathered. "I'm Lt. Commander Quinn, Federation Starship Mac. We were a little concerned when we didn't hear a response to our hail. We may be able to help with that along with delivering your supplies." Isaiah then set about introducing the members of the away team. "Our security team: Lieutenant Niles and Petty Officer Velal, Science Officer, Lieutenant Shavan, Engineer Chief Som, and this is Left Ear to-Ennien, a Sivaoan envoy."

[Bridge - USS Mac] Having resumed sitting in the centre chair which seemed more comfortable now that she didn't feel like a fraud who didn't belong there. Thea sat patiently liaising with those on the Bridge as they awaited the check in from the away team in order to beam down the supplies. Of course she let her mind wander slightly to the observation lounge and her private conversation with Isaiah before the mission took precedence. His craving for seafood duly noted for dinner later which she had already taken care of with a little help from the mess hall staff. Besides it gave her something to look forward to as she then spoke with Ops and Tactical in order to keep a lock on those who were now on the surface. *****************[Mara Rexan - Main Street, Serenity]
As Mara looked out towards the team from the Mac, she was quick to notice a fellow Trill which was always a good thing as there was only a few of them on Serenity. Her slight nerves upon their arrival were quickly pushed to one side as they approached.
" That's correct and yes apologies about that, it appears to be playing up again" she replied in response to their initial concern before the introductions began.
" It's a pleasure to meet you all and we're happy to have you here. Let me introduce you to some of my team, Sheriff Marais, Taron Lars, Henriks, Amala Rees and Taya Rooney".

Niles subtly made his way next to her, and by his quiet question she knew he had noticed her shift in demeanor upon materializing. She didn't want to talk about it here, lest they raise suspicion, but she also didn't want to be the only one on alert. "I'm not sure. It's just a feeling." That was a very literal explanation. She dropped her voice a little more as she turned back to the rest of the team as they approached the colonists. She fell in step to follow, though remained a few paces back to continue speaking with the only other security personnel present. "Rexan was scared when we arrived. She's hiding it well, I almost didn't feel it. But it was definitely not the emotional reaction I expect from the leader of a colony when help arrives." Maybe it was nothing. Maybe the Trill was just nervous about talking to strangers. But it certainly hadn't felt like a simple case of nerves, either. "I don't see any immediate threat... But where are the rest of the colonists?" The more she thought about it, the less she liked it.

[Lt Shavan Th’zhaar - Main Street, Serenity]
Why anyone would choose to live in a place like this, out in nature, with only basic technology, was almost beyond his understanding. He had to admit that there was a strange beauty to it. But devoid of the familiar enclosing walls of a starship or city street, the green landscape was just so.. open. Vulnerable. Shavan wasn’t sure if he liked it.
He also didn’t like the way communications had failed.. but then, that was one of the things they were here to help improve on. Materializing on the main street with the rest of the away team, like the others he had a standard tricorder, phaser and padd with all the various upgrade plans. He walked up to the fountain with the rest of the group, then stood by and listened as introductions were made with the colonists.
