[Serenity - Unknown Location]
Hurried footsteps pounded against the stone floor as their owner rushed towards the room just beyond the main hallway. Whilst this may be new territory for them as opposed to the metallic and more advanced surroundings, most of them had adapted since their arrival three months ago. However that was inconsequential compared to the news that Bolian dressed in the clothes of one of the captured needed to deliver before he was punished for any delay.
Although there was no time to even take a breath as he reached his destination, speaking the moment he opened the door. " There's eight of them, two security and I can also confirm that Thea Baker isn't amongst the away team".
" I'm sure that we can find a suitable replacement for the Doctor but in the meantime, send word to the Malevolence, it's time to put the first phase of the plan into action".
As much as they would of loved to have gotten their hands on Baker, they could still have some fun in order to get what they wanted. The Bolian nodded and scurried away before their Boss took their hidden anger out on them.

[Serenity Colony - Main Street] The transporter room soon gave way to the fresh openness of Serenity Colony. Isaiah slowly looked around, taking in the surroundings. Personally, it was all a little too calm for him. It was likely a hazard of growing up in New York City. The sound of life was typically synonymous with metropolitan. He noticed only a brief exchange between his security officers, but for the time being there didn't seem to be anything important enough to bring to his attention. "All right, everyone," Isaiah said aloud to the away team, "let's meet the locals."Isaiah began to move towards the six locals that were gathered near the fountain. As he moved through, his eyes casually took in the surroundings. With each step, he could see just how low-tech, as Kaya had put it, the people of Serenity were looking to live. Quinn wondered if their simplicity had anything to do with their not responding to the Mac's hails. There didn't appear to be any immediate distress, but perhaps this was their opportunity to get to the bottom of things. "Ms. Rexan?" Isaiah said as he got close enough to the Trill woman and the rest of the locals that had gathered. "I'm Lt. Commander Quinn, Federation Starship Mac. We were a little concerned when we didn't hear a response to our hail. We may be able to help with that along with delivering your supplies." Isaiah then set about introducing the members of the away team. "Our security team: Lieutenant Niles and Petty Officer Velal, Science Officer, Lieutenant Shavan, Engineer Chief Som, and this is Left Ear to-Ennien, a Sivaoan envoy."[Mara Rexan - Main Street, Serenity]
As Mara looked out towards the team from the Mac, she was quick to notice a fellow Trill which was always a good thing as there was only a few of them on Serenity. Her slight nerves upon their arrival were quickly pushed to one side as they approached.
" That's correct and yes apologies about that, it appears to be playing up again" she replied in response to their initial concern before the introductions began.
" It's a pleasure to meet you all and we're happy to have you here. Let me introduce you to some of my team, Sheriff Marais, Taron Lars, Henriks, Amala Rees and Taya Rooney". [PO3 Jovireh Velal - Serenity Colony - Main St.]Lt. Niles subtly made his way next to her, and by his quiet question she knew he had noticed her shift in demeanor upon materializing. She didn't want to talk about it here, lest they raise suspicion, but she also didn't want to be the only one on alert. "I'm not sure. It's just a feeling." That was a very literal explanation. She dropped her voice a little more as she turned back to the rest of the team as they approached the colonists. She fell in step to follow, though remained a few paces back to continue speaking with the only other security personnel present. "Rexan was scared when we arrived. She's hiding it well, I almost didn't feel it. But it was definitely not the emotional reaction I expect from the leader of a colony when help arrives." Maybe it was nothing. Maybe the Trill was just nervous about talking to strangers. But it certainly hadn't felt like a simple case of nerves, either. "I don't see any immediate threat... But where are the rest of the colonists?" The more she thought about it, the less she liked it. [Lt Shavan Th’zhaar - Main Street, Serenity] Why anyone would choose to live in a place like this, out in nature, with only basic technology, was almost beyond his understanding. He had to admit that there was a strange beauty to it. But devoid of the familiar enclosing walls of a starship or city street, the green landscape was just so.. open. Vulnerable. Shavan wasn’t sure if he liked it. He also didn’t like the way communications had failed.. but then, that was one of the things they were here to help improve on. Materializing on the main street with the rest of the away team, like the others he had a standard tricorder, phaser and padd with all the various upgrade plans. He walked up to the fountain with the rest of the group, then stood by and listened as introductions were made with the colonists. [ LT Joshua Niles - Serenity Colony, Main Street ]As the introductions were taking place, Niles offered a nod to their welcoming committee. After all, one needed to remain polite, and with some luck no one had overheard what had been discussed between the security and tactical personnel. And while he had been introduced as a member of the security detail, Niles had no illusions that if it came to action on the surface, he was not the expert in that arena despite what the top of his service record might read. But, well, who was he to contradict the Commander? Just touching the Petty Officer's elbow, he nodded. "All right. I'll see if I can let Mister Quinn know. In the meantime, keep your eyes open. Hopefully it's nothing major, but let's try and avoid getting sideswiped here." With those directions towards his subordinate, he made his way towards the welcoming party, particularly towards the Sheriff. Lang Marais, if anything, was straight out of historical fiction. He was older, and he would have been right at home in any Western. On his head was a ten-gallon hat, full-blown handlebar mustache, an honest-to-goodness oilskin duster with a star pinned on the chest... and he was carrying a phaser. But not just any phaser, and not just in any way. The damn thing was of a model that had been introduced when James Kirk still held flag rank, and it was in an actual leather gunbelt. "Sheriff Marais, Lieutenant Niles. Once we get situated, Petty Officer Velal will be ramrodding materiel handling when we start bringing stuff down, and I still need to work some last minute details and revisions to my initial planning based on the actual situation down here. Shall we get to work?"

He hated to think so negatively, but it seemed like a rather thin explanation. It was certainly one that she didn't linger on, as she quickly moved on to introductions of her own. Isaiah looked at each of them, as they gave slight signs of acknowledgement as their names were called. Isaiah nodded greeting them silently as they were introduced. "It's nice to meet all of you," he said. Isaiah then turned his attention back towards Mara. "Actually, helping you with your communications network is one of the things we're hoping that we can assist you with while we're here," Isaiah said. "That's actually why we didn't beam the supplies down first thing. We wanted to make certain that everything and everyone was okay." Isaiah couldn't help but notice how Serenity was actually living up to its name. Everything was so... quiet. "If it isn't too much of an inconvenience, Ms. Rexan, I'm sure some of us would like a brief tour. I know others are eager to get to their assignments as well," Quinn shared. "Perhaps we can even multi-task. Drop people off along the way while you tell us a little about this place." It was hopefully a way to get a look around without sounding too imposing. Though the practical points Quinn had made about his suggestion was sound as well.

[ Mara Rexan - Main Street, Serenity] Mara knew that she was teetering on the edge trying to convince the Fleeters that everything was okay and that they were just having some technical difficulties. However she had seen how some of the team didn't appear convinced and wished she could tell them the truth but if she did, then Serenity would fall and over a hundred people would die. She was also a little wary as this Lieutenant Niles approached the Sheriff, seemingly eager to get to work which wasn't what she had anticipated to happen straightaway. Luckily for them all, Commander Quinn intervened by telling her that helping them with their faulty comms was just one of things that they were here for, as well as explain why the supplies hadn't arrived yet. Okay not ideal considering that Jaggah and his fellow brutes would be checking on them within the next couple of hours. But like everything lately she was just going to have to get on with it and hope that no-one else suffered. " We would be grateful for that assistance and I understand your reasoning for wanting to make sure that everything was okay first". Then when he made a suggestion about giving them a brief tour and to perhaps drop people where they needed to be on the way. The elected leader knew that she couldn't refuse or raise further suspicion as to who had Serenity under their control or why they had such a keen interest in the Mac. Besides she just had to act like nothing was wrong and if she was given an opportunity, she would seize it in order to make things right. " It's no inconvenience at all, we'd be happy to give you a brief tour and direct people where they need to be as we move along. If you all would like to follow me, we can start at our town hall".

When she'd been introduced, she had given a small wave of acknowledgement, but had not paid the slightest attention to the introduction of the colonists as Lt. Niles replied to her assessment. Thankfully he seemed to be taking her concerns seriously. In spite of the Betazoid reputation in the Federation, there were still plenty who discredited empathy as a reason to raise alarm. He assured her he would attempt to bring the concern to Commander Quinn, and instructed her to remain alert. "Aye, sir." She replied with a nod, watching as he then addressed who was obviously the Sherriff. So it seemed her first duties here would be pretty simple. Distribute supplies, and make sure nobody got killed. Easy enough. Hopefully. Allowing the senior officers to plan with the colonists on how to proceed, she took another step away from the team, spinning slowly in place and once more examining the surroundings. To those unfamiliar with her, it would appear as though she were simply admiring the view in great detail. And why shouldn't she? Until the cargo containers were shipped down, she really didn't have anything else to do. Except to stay alert and watch for any signs of trouble enjoy the view. There is was again. A spike of emotion... Stress, concern, desperation... and then quelled once more as Mara Rexan called for them all to follow her to the town hall. Jovireh spun on her heel, regarding the woman carefully, hoping they weren't all about to be walking into a trap. But at the moment she really had nothing to go off of in order to delay the transition, so with a resigned sigh and a clench of her jaw she rejoined the group. However, she remained on the outskirts, wanting to have freedom of movement if anything did catch her attention on the way to their destination.

[Jaggah and others - Unknown Location]Having his job, Jaggah got to work preparing his teams for the attack. He intended to use all 4 of their ground ships for this operation, and currently stood surveying these craft. Slightly larger than a Starfleet runabout, their armaments were plenty to overcome the defenses of the colony, although their intended use (against more forward-thinking technological foes) was as light support vehicles. Able to navigate deftly along terrestrial environments, as well as at higher atmospheric altitudes, the craft were also difficult to detect with sensors as long as they flew low. The four were colloquially referred to as Red, Blue, Green, and Black. "Red will approach down the main route, to pick up supplies as usual. Then, Blue and Green attack from the sides, deploying our infantry to control the exit routes from the settlements. When the time is right, Black will fly high overhead, and aerially deploy Fire-Breath to cow them into submission," he dictated his plan, the product of his own mind. Fire-Breath, in fact, was a misnomer, referring to an experimental weapon that could be mounted on any of the ground ships.

The hooded figure stood against the window, enabling them to witness Jaggah and his people as they prepared the ground ships for their biggest attack yet. Everything was proceeding as it should even if one of their targets wasn't quite in their grasp. No matter Thea Baker would pay the price regardless as would Mara Rexan when the time was right.
Of course they could of led the attack but why reveal themselves now when they could let Jaggah, their second in command handle the more messier side of the operation. No this was exactly why they had chosen him, before the figure's attention was brought to the woman behind him. " The Malevolence confirms that the decoy is in place ready to transmit on your command".
" Excellent, tell them to proceed and then we won't have the Mac getting in our way".
" As you wish" the woman replied then left the figure to their quiet scheming. The figure's eyes turning away from the door as she left to look upon the lone figure in the corner, a malicious grin on their face before going over to them.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Serenity Colony, Main Street ]Sheriff Lang Marais was what a lot of people tended to refer to as a character. Frankly, he couldn't see what they were talking about. He was hard-working, had a strong notion of right and wrong, preferred talking things out and getting folk to agree over pressing charges if he could. But he wasn't above a good right cross or a phaser set on stun to settle things, or just hauling someone to one of his four holding cells to sleep it off or cool down as required. Or put both parties in his smallest cell and not let them out until they sorted things out. Wasn't always exactly legal, but it worked, more often than not. And while he knew his colony needed assistance, he wasn't the most thrilled at having Starfleet provide it; there was a reason he'd elected to move out to the sticks, to get away from them! That Lieutenant-Commander, who looked damn young, introduced his people and Marais needed a moment to find this 'Lieutenant Niles', and then, he found him. First, that boy needed some meat on his bones! Second, was his beard trimmed that short, or was that all he was able to grow? That boy looked like he was what, a whole fourteen years old, to his grizzled eyes? But at least, he had manners and came to introduce himself, as befitted someone with whom much (written) correspondence had been exchanged as of late. And, to Lang's surprise and pleasure, the lad was actually ready to get down to business; granted, he was a bit overeager, what with wanting to get at it even before all the niceties were observed, and he wasn't so cocksure as to expect he'd nailed down every aspect of the job from out on his starship. "Lieutenant,", Marais answered gruffly as he shook the kid's hand and looked him in the eye. A very soft hand, but at least his grip was firm and honest. He reckoned he could tell much about a man by their handshake, and whether he was going to like them or not. The boy had a decent grip, and honest hold, and he didn't hesitate one second to approach him. That, and while he was young and eager, Marais had the very clear impression that the lad wasn't just some kid with no real experience; limited experience maybe but he'd clearly got a good share of been-there-done-that under his belt. Probably a good start, all in all. "First let's get through the niceties, it'll make Mara happy. And some folk here aren't too keen on Starfleet, so it'll help if they see you and me being all civil-like before you start doing your thing rather than look like some sort of visitor who can't wait to get off this rock and back to his starship once he's done playing 'save the locals'."The man was, well, something so far as Niles was concerned. He did carry himself in a way that seemed larger than life, and that handshake! He for one had never shook a hand that was so damn callused! And with knuckles that clearly had been busted a number of times and left to heal on their own. Oh, this was going to be interesting all right. However, the Sheriff did put the brakes on Niles' eagerness, and the Lieutenant nodded. "Of course, Sir. First of all, this is after all your jurisdiction and we are here to help you, not so much the other way around even though we may need some folks to assist us in the work. And if it will help convince your people that we're not just here to meddle or make ourselves feel good, then I suppose the start can be delayed a little."As he released the younger man's hand, Marais smiled. "Son, Sheriff, or Lang will do. In fact, Lang is ideal, everyone calls me that around here unless we're being really formal, or they're in trouble from me. Now come on, let's get the patent-pending nickel tour, get some coffee, and we'll eventually get to work."With this finally out of the way, Niles followed the party on the tour heading for the town hall, and as they walked, he wished he could actually get to Commander Quinn and speak to him discreetly about Velal's insights. However, given that Miss Rexan was with him, he could hardly find a way to politely separate them and express his concerns, so for now, he had to sit on them... and keep an eye out just as he had instructed the Petty Officer to do.

Commander Isaiah Quinn - Main Street, Serenity Colony] Isaiah continued to smile as Mara explained the lack of a response.

Soft tags crew, Mara Rexan [ Left Ear to-Ennien - Serenity Colony - Main Street] Left Ear found this place interesting. They used less technology than most Starfleet/Federation people did (Left Ear didn't entirely understand all of the distinctions between the two), but she rather liked the look of the stone they'd used to construct their buildings. It was certainly a lovely place, and the Sivaoan drew in a deep breath, opening her mouth slightly to catch all of the different scents. When Jov moved back to the group, Left Ear sidled up, glancing curiously at her friend. They hadn't known each other long, but she was the only member of the team that she knew much at all. She wanted to have someone to watch for the appropriate social cues, or so she could ask outright about things she didn't understand. She could tell that the security officer was concerned about something, but without more familiarity, Left Ear couldn't tell if it had to do with something there in the colony or not. Knowing that it could be important for Jov to move quickly in an emergency, Left Ear stood next to her, but with enough space that she wouldn't impede her movement. She reached out with the tip of her tail and gently pressed the back of Jovireh's hand companionably. Among her own people, or under more casual circumstances, Left Ear would have wrapped her tail around a friend's wrist or waist, but she did know that it wouldn't be appropriate here. She did leave her tail within reach if Jov wanted to reciprocate.

[Bridge - USS Mac] Thea was sat in the center chair, having not really moved much since the away team transported down to the surface. Of course she was both anxious and curious as to how the initial meeting was going but trusted Isaiah and the others enough to call in when it was appropriate. Perhaps the anxiety was due to this being a first for the crew and for her personally since the changes, or maybe it was the situation itself especially with the issues, that the colony was experiencing. If anything she just had to try and relax then wait for the call in order to send the supplies and once everything was in place take a look for herself. For now she turned towards Laurel at the Tactical station. " How's it looking down there Chief, are we still receiving the away teams signals?" she asked for her own piece of mind. " Affirmative Commander"....Laurel began before Olsen at Ops interjected. " Apologies but we're receiving a distress signal, audio only from the Civilian Freighter, Avalon".Not what she was expecting to happen but at the same time couldn't ignore such a thing as she ordered Olsen to play the distress call and open a channel. ...... We need assistance... plasma leak... casualties... please someone help us.... =/\= Freighter Avalon, this is Commander Thea Baker of the USS Mac, we've received your distress call and will be with you as quickly as we can =/\=Unable to confirm if it had been received or not, Thea then began to issue orders before contacting the team below. =/\= Baker to Away Team, we've received a distress call and are about to leave in order to render assistance. [Avalon - Radira System]
Odira Lagavulin sat proudly in the centre seat, feeling like the mongrel beast of her home world as the fake distress call was received by the Fleeters. Whilst she didn't know the full details of why the Boss was so fascinated by this ship or its Acting CO, she did like springing traps. So of course she was more than obliging when her ship was picked for this particular honour in order to keep them occupied whilst the final assault took place on Serenity.
Such a pretty name for something so backward yet she would never set foot on the colony. No Odira liked the finer things in life and her new privileged position as Roxx caught her attention. " Mistress, response received from the Mac, what are your orders?".
" Excellent, inform the hive that we have been successful and prepare the ship for the Mac's arrival".
" Yes Mistress".
Odira grinned at his response, before resuming her cold and calculated thoughts, ready to strike when the Mac arrived.

[ CPO Kaya Som, Taron Lars | Town hall ]
Taron Lars was an earthy bearded Betazoid with dark eyes, a thick beard, a heavy sweater, and a quiet manner. At the town hall, someone pointed him to the short Trill in gold as his counterpart.
"You like it here," he said, not so much a question as an acknowledgement of what Kaya Som was clearly feeling. Kaya turned and looked up and up.
"I see the appeal. Taron Lars? Kaya Som. Good to meet you in person," she responded. She looked around the large space. "My team's here somewhere... Oh, there, that's Yande Djigo [fn]Human woman, PO3[/fn] and Étienne Fournier [fn]Human man, P02[/fn]. We're all farmers now," she joked.
It had been a crash course unlike anything she'd done since Starfleet training. Taron looked where Kaya pointed and nodded. Not one of the three looked like they'd done much hand-work before, but he knew this was about collaboration.
"Would you like some beer? We make it here. It's very good," Taron offered.
Kaya winced. "I would, but it'll have to be later. Regulations."
Taron raised a hand in polite retreat. "I understand, I understand."
It was then that Kaya's comm badge chirped alive.
For the first time in their short time together, Taron's face showed a flicker of unease, his brows furrowed just slightly.
"Is that normal? For your ship to scuttle off without you?" he asked.
Kaya shrugged and waved him off. "It's nothing. They do it all the time. Duty calls."
Taron nodded, and forced a smile again. "Hmm." Part of him hoped the presence of the mighty ship would help the situation...

It seemed that there were no objections to the tour as well as depositing the away team where they needed to be along the way. "Excellent," Isaiah said. He then held out his hand as if gesturing for her to proceed. "After you."As things began to get underway, there was one prevailing thought in Isaiah's mind: where were the people? He understood people had jobs to do, but he expected to see more people about than this. He glanced over his shoulder in Jovireh's direction. He hadn't heard anything from her yet, but was curious if she had sensed something. And then, there was the absence of children. In his experience, they always found a way to be curious about visitors. And he had yet to see a full 100% obedience remain effective when curiosity reared its head in the minds of the youth. Quinn was pleased to see that some of the members of the away team had begun to mingle with some of the others. Both Niles and Som had started some small talk. Perhaps they'd be successful in shaking some truths about what was happening here. Quinn, however, had decided upon a more direct approach. "So, Ms. Rexan, could you remind me of your numbers here at the colony again. I have to admit, I expecting things to be --"Quinn paused as he heard Thea's voice over his communicator. He listened as she mentioned that they had received a distress call. He took a deep breath before tapping his commbadge. =/\= "Quinn here. [PO3 Jovireh Velal - Serenity Colony - Main St.]This was getting frustrating. Niles hadn't managed to pull Quinn aside, and she hadn't thought of a way to get his attention without raising suspicion either. Hopefully at least one of them would be able to warn him before anything happened. For a moment it would seem like she had a chance when he turned and looked at her... But before she could say anything he turned back around and continued his conversation. Great. From the corner of her eye, she saw the multicolored fur of Left Ear, and thought about asking the Sivaoan if anything seemed wrong to her. But she didn't want to alarm the young healer if it turned out to be nothing. Something brushed against her hand, and she stiffened, turning just slightly before she realized it had been fur instead of flesh. Left Ear's tail. She was going to have to get used to having a teammate with a tail. She gave the Sivaoan a soft smile before taking a small step closer so she could keep her voice down. "Have you noticed anything... off... about this place?" She asked, explaining her jumpiness while also hoping to utilize the Sivaoan's survival instincts. Before she could go into her own concerns, however, there was a call from the Mac, requesting to send down the supplies so they could respond to a distress call. That seemed rather... convenient... She wasn't thrilled about the idea, but more so her concern regarded the lack of backup rather than the incoming supplies, and she wasn't about to suggest they ignore the distress call. So she remained silent as Quinn responded, deciding she and Niles were just going to have to do what they could to keep everyone safe. On their own.

[ Mara Rexan - Main Street, Serenity] Mara nodded as Commander Quinn gestured for her to lead the way towards the hall, happy to see the others interact with the Fleeters. Things might not be ideal and utterly terrifying at the moment but at least there was some normality in interacting with outsiders. Of course she wished that the circumstances could of been different but for now, she was going to relish this moment before all hell broke loose once more. As they reached the stone building and Quinn asked a question that she should of expected. Mara was given a brief reprieve as Thea contacted her people and Quinn responded to her. There was a look towards Taron about what this could mean for everyone. She also didn't want to interrupt and would find a suitable answer once Quinn had finished talking with Thea. **********************[Thea - Bridge, USS Mac]
To hear Isaiah's voice was definitely reassuring for Thea and considering the options, decided to leave the team to continue the mission rather than bring them back. Thinking that the distress call shouldn't take up that much time or at the very least bring the crew onto the ship if they were unable to save the Freighter.
=/\= Excellent as I'm happy for you to remain and continue with the mission until we get back. I anticipate that it shouldn't take us too long =/\=
There was a brief pause as Isaiah then mentioned a suitable location for the supplies to and Thea sent word to the cargo bay. =/\= Acknowledged, beam down is in progress, we'll inform you once we return, Mac out =/\=
The supplies materialised a few minutes later in the designated area, then the Mac was gone leaving the away team to an unknown fate.
