[Observation Lounge - Deck 1] With the Mac fast approaching the newly established Serenity colony in order to drop off much needed supplies. It's Acting CO had decided to call a briefing in the observation lounge in order to go over any last minute details and ensure that everything was as it should be before they reached the colony. Having arrived a little earlier than intended, Thea stood by the viewport, watching the stars streak by. Her red uniform instead of her usual blue, reflected back at her along with the extra gold pip that she now wore. Giving the redhead a moment or two to reflect on the changes in her life as well as some clarity prior to her first proper briefing since officially becoming XO. Her and Isaiah were ecstatically happy especially now that they had moved in together. The decision to wear red for a bridge shift had been the right choice and then there was the mission itself. Serenity, a name chosen by its inhabitants to reflect a second chance and to establish a home reminiscent of old Earth and many other places away from the main travel routes. To be independent but still be under the protections afforded to them by the Federation. It may be just a simple supply drop off but for Thea it was also the chance for the crew to be planet side. Something that rarely happened in this sector and also to help with an important milestone in what Serenity was trying to achieve. Stepping away from the viewport, Thea set out jugs of water and several fruit juices, then took a seat at the head of the table. PADD at the ready for when the others got here so they could begin.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ]It was good to be back out in space. A few weeks' leave, complete with a medical mishap, had been good for a certain tactical officer, but from what he'd read of the happenings surrounding the testing of a new fighter, part of him wished he'd fought to postpone his leave; maybe, just maybe, he would have been able to do something about it.. But, hindsight was always perfect, and there would never be a way to change the past and do things differently. Besides, he had been ordered on leave, it was out of his hands... but he was not about to lay any kind of blame on anyone for it. But now, he was back where he belonged managing the Mac's Tactical sections. However, there was something about the mission's preparatory orders that seemed... odd. Using an asset like the Mac for a grocery run? To him it seemed like a bit of a waste; after all, the Sovereign class was Starfleet's crown jewel for the time being and not one of the older ships that was still perfectly suited for this sort of less than critical operations. However, it was hardly his decision to make, so really he was pretty much just along for the ride. When the briefing was called, Niles very much being himself, endeavoured to be one of the first ones present. Being late without a hell of a good reason, like a hull breach being in the way, a Red Alert or being laid up in Sickbay and dying, was an unforgivable sin and an easy one to avoid at that. Entering the room, he saw Doctor - Commander - Baker setting the table ahead of the upcoming briefing. "Commander?" he asked as he was looking at her carrying out those homely tasks. "We have stewards..."

Commander Isaiah Quinn - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ] During the ride on the turbolift to the Bridge, Isaiah took a moment to review the readouts from the experiments that were running both on the ship and back on the station. It perturbed him slightly to see that several projects had to be scrapped back at the station. According to what he was seeing, it seemed to be a result of either equipment malfunction due to power fluctuations. He was confident that maintenance would see to it, and the experiments could be duplicated soon enough. He powered down the padd just as the lift doors opened at his destination. It was a brief stroll from the turbolift to the observation lounge where he found Thea already inside, setting the table. Lt. Niles had greeted her and pointed out that they did have stewards to handle such duties. "Good luck with that," Isaiah chimed with a smile as he started to round the table. In Isaiah's opinion, it was simply Thea's nature to be a bit more hands on. It was one of the things that made her such a good doctor. While she was still a doctor, she was also an executive officer now. Likely, it'd be a bit of a learning curve to fully embrace the delegation of some duties, even such simple tasks as this. He placed the padd face down as he began to take the seat. His eyes scanned the table briefly, as he began to pour himself a glass of water. "Anyone else?" he asked, willing to pour while the jug was still in his hand.

[Lt Shavan Th’zhaar - Observation Lounge] A briefing about a supply run. The meeting hadn’t started yet and Shavan was already bored. Couldn’t this have been a report? But at least they were off the station, and things were unlikely to go wrong. It would be good to get more experience being on the Mac on a routine mission. Endeavoring to be well-rested and on time for once, he quickly made his way to Deck 1. Shavan walked through the doors to the observation lounge and took a seat at the table where a few other officers were already gathered. "Thank you," he said as he took the jug of water Commander Quinn offered and poured himself a glass, mainly for something to do as they waited for everyone else to arrive. [PO3 Jovireh Velal - USS Mac - Observation Lounge]Her first mission after her promotion, and Jovireh was grateful it was a simple one. Then again... The last two were supposed to be simple as well. But no Talorian delegates, no Nyberrites... And with the rest of the crew back from shore leave she would not be manning the tactical station. Needless to say, she was hopeful this run would go smoothly. She entered the Observation Lounge, giving a nod of greeting to those already gathered as she made her way to an empty chair. Her step faltered just a little though as she recognized the Andorian hybrid sitting near Quinn. While she'd known Shavan was Starfleet, somehow she had never considered the possibility of them having to work together. Ducking her head in hopes to hide the green blush that burned her cheeks, she took a seat without a word. Perhaps this wasn't going to be such a smooth mission after all...

[Observation Lounge - Deck 1] Thea had just placed the last jug onto the table when the doors opened to admit Lieutenant Miles, who was quick to remind her about them having stewards. However before she could answer him, Isaiah arrived and wished Niles good luck. Thea looked at her boyfriend and smiled, as he knew too well and yes she could of gotten someone else to do it but this way she kept the personal touch that she was known for. " Good Afternoon gentlemen and Commander Quinn is correct, he knows me too well and next time I'll remember the stewards" she replied politely as Isaiah then poured a drink and asked if anyone else wanted one. Shavan was quick to accept as the scientist arrived and Thea greeted him as well as Petty Officer Velal. " Good Afternoon Lieutenant, Petty Officer".

[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Sickbay] Left Ear entered the sickbay aboard the Mac for the first time, her icy blue eyes wide with wonder. Her pupils were narrow slits in the bright overhead lights as she looked around at the bustling medical officers. She'd become accustomed to observing and working in the infirmary aboard the station, but this was her first time joining the Mac on a mission. Left Ear had requested the opportunity and since this was supposed to be a simply supply run, she took advantage. The Sivaoan clutched a messenger-type bag to her side containing her personal medical scanner and a PADD that she was using to study different species' biology. She much preferred to learn by doing, as was the custom among her people, but at least she could get some basic information from the databases. Unfortunately, they didn't contain any info about scents, and that was an important part of medicine for Sivaoans. They diagnosed by nose as much as anything else. Anyway, Left Ear hoped it would be a good learning opportunity and a chance to see how things were done differently on the ship.

[ CPO Kaya Som | Observation Lounge ]
Kaya Som could have stayed on holiday forever but when it came down to it, she realized she didn't have a plan B without Starfleet. A career on a starship was a gravity well of incentives and stability and it would take an intense and focused surge of energy to break out of that orbit. They'd been back three weeks now and life had just picked up where it left off. The lower decks exchanged stories of sabotaged fighter tests and rumors of pit fighting on exotic shores, and everyone was brought up to date on all the theories on what had happened to Commodore Perry and just what exactly the rules were about joining foreign rebellions. Also of note was that Kaya was insisting all her friends call her 'chief', both on duty and off.
She wiped most of a smile off her face as she showed up to the briefing, repping Engineering. Doctor Baker was in red and frankly rocking it. Niles was there, and Lieutenant Quinn. Kaya chose a seat next to Lieutenant Th'zhaar.

[Observation Lounge - Deck 1] Now that everyone had arrived including Chief Som and Nurse Logan representing Medical for the purpose of this meeting. Thea stood up so she could get their attention and begin as she was well aware of the timing involved before they arrived at Serenity. " I wanted to start off by thanking you all for getting here so promptly and please help yourself to refreshments if you already haven't done so".The Acting CO then paused to allow people the chance to grab a drink as it was likely going to be a few hours before they were able too. Then she brought up a holo image of Serenity, letting it project so she could direct everyone's focus towards us. " Now I know that I could have had all departments check in with their readiness reports via the Bridge. However I thought it prudent to do it this way as all of you with the exception of Nurse Logan, will be part of the away team who will beam down prior to the delivery of the supplies. The reason for doing so is that command would like us to get to know the colonists and build a rapport with them as we'll be their only line of defense and help should there ever be an emergency".Thea then paused again to allow that information to sink in before continuing. " So in essence this is a little more than just a supply run. As such Commander Quinn will lead the team whilst I oversee everything from up here. Any questions?, before I ask for reports?".

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ] As everyone gathered, Isaiah took mental inventory of all that had gathered. He had worked with their tactical officer, Lt. Niles many times before. He was proficient and paid attention to detail. That coupled with Petty Officer Velal's instincts made Quinn confident that the safety of the away team would be in good hands. Lt. Shavan was an excellent scientist. If he needed to cede the responsibilities of science officer to anyone else while he led this away team, it was Shavan. And finally, there was the newly minted Chief Som. She was young, but she was also very bright and had a lot of spirit. As far as he knew the dust had settled between herself and Niles, but he trusted their professionalism to keep focused on the mission and set any personal differences aside. When Thea asked if anyone had any further questions before proceeding, Quinn took the opportunity to ask a few questions to make certain that the team was enlightened to as many pertinent facts as possible. "Obviously our arrival is expected," Quinn began. "I assume the colony's leader or one of their representatives will meet us?"Quinn had his own personal queries where the colonists were concerned, but this was hardly the venue to entertain those questions. In fact, beaming to the planet was likely the best way to sate those curiosities. He could understand wanting the security the Federation offered, but wanting to avoid the dangers that accompanied association. Perhaps mingling with the locals would shine a bit more light on those ideals.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac ]Somehow, Niles was not surprised when Commander Quinn mentioned that it might be hard to break Commander Baker of that particular habit. But then again, she did have Captain Eastman as an example for some time by now, so setting the table and offering to fill the drinks was not entirely unexpected... nor something that could be easily remedied. But then again, now that he was no longer what was still called a Baby-O by some elements of the lower decks, Joshua himself still had to settle in his current position to some degree. Looking around the room as he took his seat, he considered the talent being assembled here. Quinn, he knew well enough, though he was not entirely sure of his command chops. Petty Officer Velal was a solid presence, and he had nothing bad to say or think about her, and with some luck the months since he'd last worked closely with Chief Som would have been enough to get her to get off his case regarding their different takes on what Starfleet entailed. But all in all, there as quite a bit of expertise within the room. "Not so much a question, Skipper, as a concern," Niles started, deciding to use the semi-formal mode of address for the officer commanding a ship. "I'm not entirely confident that Serenity has the tracking and communications capabilities to effectively manage all the space-side operations and traffic control while things get set up. Maybe we could bring up their traffic control people and get some of ours to back them up, and use the Battle Bridge as a control center until theirs get upgraded? It would be easy enough to reconfigure the consoles to mimic their new software package, and shave a few days off of the training time we had scheduled since they'll be able to start before their new dirt-side setup is sorted out."After all, if one identified a problem, it never hurt to propose a solution as well...

Of all the people who could have walked through that door next, Jovireh was about the last person Shavan was expecting to see. Especially not at the exact same time he was trying to make a good impression on Commander Quinn; he had actually spent relatively little time working directly with the chief science officer in the past, since they were always on different assignments.
“Good afternoon,” he replied to Thea, before suddenly finding the contents of the briefing to be much more interesting. He stared fixedly down at the PADD in front of him, only glancing up briefly to smile and nod to Kaya Som when she sat down next to him.
When Thea began the briefing, Shavan paid attention without interruption. At this time he had no questions and so stayed silent and listened. What Niles proposed overlapped with his own duties, but sounded unnecessary. Surely these things would be much more efficient if humans didn’t feel the need to talk so much just for the sake of appearing to participate.

[PO3 Jovireh Velal - USS Mac - Observation Lounge]
It took a brief moment for Jov to realize Commander Baker had greeted her, as she was still getting used to her new title. Being called 'Crewman' for over six years had made it feel as natural as her name, and now she had to start getting used to something that didn't sound even remotely similar. "Good afternoon, ma'am," she replied just a brief moment after Shavan. Wait... He was a Lieutenant? Oops. She'd known he was an officer, but they had rather avoided talking about work, so she hadn't realized just how much of an officer he was. All the more reason to not let it get around. Which meant she needed to focus.
Thankfully Kaya and a woman from medical entered and took their seats, and the briefing began. Jovireh went ahead and poured herself a drink when invited to, still listening intently as the mission was described in more detail. So she'd be part of an away team? To the planet's surface? Make that another 'first' in her career, though this was one she was actually excited for. It was far more along the lines of her specializations than being at the tactical station on the Bridge. She hadn't worked with Lt. Niles before, only saw him at the reception when his anger over the Talorian presence had been a bit noteworthy... But to his credit he had never acted on that anger, and likely her empathy was the only reason she'd known how strong it was. His self-control earned her respect that night, and she looked forward to the chance to work with him directly.
Commander Quinn she was more familiar with after their last mission. While there had been a brief concerning moment between him and Commander Harmon, she was willing to give him another chance. Especially since the other man wasn't on this mission. Whatever had happened between them seemed run deeper than typical human arrogance, but it was far from her place to inquire about it. At least he had seemed apologetic for putting her in the middle of it. That was more than Harmon had done.
Kaya she knew more by reputation than anything, and Jov was grateful to see she had seemed to have made a full recovery after the assault on the last mission they were on together. She still felt a little bit of guilt over that, but apologizing at any point wouldn't do anything except bring up the memories of the traumatic incident that she was certain the other woman just wanted to forget.
And Shavan... Well... she needed to not think about what she knew about him.
Quinn and Niles had voiced their questions, and Jovireh listened intently, shifting her attention to each in turn. She didn't have any questions of her own, and knew as the lowest on the 'totem pole' of the away team, she would spend a majority of the time following orders anyway. So she remained silent, deciding to just listen and learn.

[Observation Lounge - Deck 1] Thea knew that there was a lot to take not to mention the importance of what they were doing. So calling this meeting had definitely been a good idea, so she could everything that they knew prior to arrival and discuss with everyone in the same place. As she retook her seat and left the display active for the time being. The Commander looked towards Isaiah as he spoke first and enquired as to who would be meeting them when they beamed down. " It is and I'm aware that communication grid can be temperamental which is something we can look into, once we've established any other needs that they might have. As for who you'll be meeting, it'll be their elected leader Mara Rexan, an unjoined Trill and old friend of mine".Seeing Mara's name had been a pleasant surprise when she had received the orders from HQ and hoped to catch up with her former roommate if time allowed. Then it was Niles's turn to talk as he raised a concern about the colony's tracking and communication capabilites, as well as offering up a suggestion to help them deal with traffic control and the like. Having covered the communication issue, Thea appreciated his concern but ideally that wouldn't necessarily fall under his department, plus they simply didn't have the people to drag them away to the Mac for training. " I appreciate your concern Lieutenant, however we'll do what we can as this is primarily a farming community, who will only receive visits every six months and considering its only a few months old, they won't be able to spare the people to come here for training".It was tough and she was learning that you couldn't agree to every suggestion or rectify every concern as she looked across at those she had chosen alongside Isaiah. With no questions from the others, Thea would allow a few more minutes before moving on.

[Mara Rexan - Town Hall, Serenity]
As Mara looked out at the buildings that made up the small town and the fields beyond. She should of been full of happiness and delight at seeing Serenity beginning to flourish following their relocation and building something to be proud of. Yet all that remained was hope and the belief that their current situation would soon be over with and that they would finally be free of those who had caused it.
Of course that all rested on the arrival of the Mac, wishing that Thea hadn't been the one to answer the call from HQ. There was already so much suffering and she had no choice but to play along and pray that everything would be okay again.
" Mara, we've managed to gather the remaining crops ready for delivery. Its not much but better than last month".
The voice of Henriks, her right hand man so to speak, drew her attention away from the view. " Thanks Henriks, I'll deal with them as always, if it will keep you safe, at least until the Mac arrives".
" Don't worry about me, we'll get through this after all we've encountered worse".
Mara managed a soft smile at his words and knew he was right, which made this even harder sometimes. With a final exchange, the colony's elected leader then walked out with him, in order to prepare for the delivery.
