[Jungle Clearing - Unknown Planet] With the scans underway, Thea looked up from where she was sitting next to Aravis, when Hunt offered up a suggestion, as well as put himself forward for the investigation team. Thinking it through, he had a good point in terms of them not knowing a lot about the planet. So there was some logic behind taking blood from everyone now, which could prove to be useful depending on what they encountered. " Make it so Doctor and yes you can be part of the investigation team" she said, acknowledging his input as Aravis answered her, a little more loudly than she likely intended. " That's to be expected given the concussion that you received Lieutenant. I'm going to treat it but I also want you to take it easy".Administering a hypo and treating the concussion, Thea ran one last scan, then got up as Sven gave a recommendation and splitting security between the teams had been something that she had considered. However having some remain behind made sense too which gave her another idea. " That's what I was more or less thinking too Chief. Although you do raise a good point about having people remain behind. I'll be one of those people and whoever stays with me, we can get the camp established and try to get through to the ship whilst the others investigate and do what we came here for".
Tag all [Jungle Clearing – Unknown Planet] Hunt listened to the Commander as she let him suggest collecting blood samples for the entire away team. He nodded in silence and quickly began to do his job. He took out a Hypo Spray and began pressing buttons into it to an extract mode. He would then make sure that each blood sample would be stored in the Medical Tricorder for future reference. Hopefully, there would be no need to check this data. The Doctor walked away when he observed both Lt. Commander Sven and the Pretty Officer. It appeared that they would be having a private conversation. The Doctor walked near them and scratched his throat loudly to announce his presence. “ I’m sorry to interrupt your conversation. But I would like both of your consent to extract blood samples from both of you. As you both know, with the shuttle being down and our lack of communication with the ship, we cannot observe standard decontamination protocols. So, therefore, before we are here for too long, I would like to take some blood samples for a baseline in case this environment harms your immune system. Hopefully, it’s not needed.” The Doctor said with a smile and added, “ We don’t want to end up like the aliens in HG Wells, War of the Worlds.” Hunt would have waited for them to give him consent. Once given, he would quickly take the samples; if denied, he would merely walk away. “Thank you,” Hunt stated as he walked to another group of people. He then walked to the crewman Alice Duff who was busy with the inventory of supplies. The Doctor smiled and responded, “ Excuse me, Crewman Duff. Thank you for taking the inventory. I’m here collecting some blood samples. Would you mind if I take yours?”. The Doctor asked. He would have waited for the response, and if given authorization, he would take her blood sample and save it. As he looked at the supplies, including the tent, he tried to make a joke. “ I think we should inform Starfleet that for Mental Health purposes, all emergency kits should include some entertainment systems. Maybe some board games”. He said with a smile as he would walk away after his half attempt to make a joke. The situation was a little tense, and he thought to make some levity of the situation. As he continued walking around the camp, he observed the Commander with Lt. Avaris and Lt. Commander Quinn. The Commander, who is also a Doctor, was tending them, and following the ancient earth saying there can be too many cooks in the kitchen is applicable in Medicine. Each Doctor had a different way and method to diagnose and to treat, and as much as it is based on Science, there is an Art as it as well. He first addressed Commander Quinn, in which he said he had a slight headache. “ Lt. Commander Quinn, I am here to request your consent to withdraw your blood. This should be painless.” The man said with a smile. He would wait for Commander’s consent. If he permitted him, he would promptly take it, and if denied, he would nod as he understood. “ I’m sorry, we are not on the ship Lt. Commander. I have quite the cure for a Headache. I have a fresh bottle of Single Malt Scotch Whiskey that would take care of that for you. Place this puppy on the rocks, and we are in high heaven. And this is the real thing, not the replicated crap that you guys have. Whoever invented replicators clearly did not know their alcohol”. The Doctor commented with a smile. He would then give his attention to Aravis, that would be suffering from possible concussion effects. The Doctor would lean and speak softly as he did not want to give her more pain or headaches with high noises. As she mentioned, her ears were ringing and speaking louder than usual; he abandoned this method as it appeared to might be a dual-diagnosis issue or at the very least ear damage issue. Hunt would try and get in front of her so she would able to see and read his lips. “ Lt. do you mind if I take your blood sample?”. The Doctor said. He did not want to speak much as the Commander was already treating him. “If it gets much worse, don’t worry, we can chop your head off,” Hunt said with a slight smile as it was ridiculous but hopefully gave her a moment of levity. Finally, the Hunt turned to the XO and then did the formality. “ Commander, do you consent?” As a fellow Doctor, Hunt figured that it was a formality, but he went to the proper protocols as he did to the rest of the team. Suppose given he would promptly to do quickly. He would store the Commander’s sample as he did with the rest and picked up his Hypo spray. “ Lastly,” He said to himself as he withdrew his own blood. The Doctor would have uploaded the data into his Tricorder and walked near Commander Baker. As a second, he pressed some buttons on the Tricorder and then spoke, “ Doctor Baker, I have uploaded all the data of the blood samples to your Medical Tricorder. In the unlikely event that something happens to be on the exploration phase. Hopefully, none of this is needed”. Hunt spoke to the Commander about his role as a physician. With two of them on an unknown planet with unknown flora and fauna, he might need to plan on a backup in the event something happened to him. Tag All {Quoted Posts} [PO2 Jovireh Velal - Unknown Planet - Jungle Clearing]"I'm fine, sir," she replied, lifting a hand to rub at her forehead. The buzzing, although faint, was incessant. It was starting to get annoying. "There's something beyond those trees that's registering with my telepathy, but I can't tell if it's a presence, or some sort of natural psionic interference." And of course, she would have to be the only telepath on the away team, so she had no way to test either theory. The hybrid had never heard of a natural phenomena that interfered with telepathic abilities, but she'd also never experienced the static-like buzzing in her mind before. It was unsettling to say the least. [Jungle Clearing - Unknown Planet] Now that she had issued orders to everyone, Thea was definitely feeling a lot more confident that their plan was as good as they could make it given the circumstances. Listening as Sven spoke to Crewman Duff so that they had an idea of supplies etc, before the security chief had a quiet word with Jovireh. Leaving the pair to do so, Thea fixed her attention on Alice as she went through the inventory. It was better than she had anticipated, considering how quickly they had to leave the runabout and they could definitely work with what they had. " Let's get the tents up then I think we can either split into teams or stick together as one in order to investigate and gather as much information as possible".Then as Isaiah reassured her that he was okay and how he had suffered worse than this before. Thea knew exactly what he meant and whilst she trusted his judgement, would be remiss if she didnt at least offer up a pain reliever. Besides she knew him well enough by now to know that he was itching to get to work. " Okay but I'm going to give you some pain relief and if you start feeling ill or dizzy, then you let me or Dr Hunt know immediately" she said, offering a compromise and a look that said everything that she couldn't say. Offering Isaiah the hypo and letting her hand linger briefly, Thea then went over to Aravis. " How are you feeling Lieutenant?" she asked as she scanned her. [Jungle Clearing – Unknown Planet] Hunt spent the last several minutes going through the Medkits and keeping a mental inventory of their medical resources. It was not a lot but there were several medications when combines it could lead to more options. It was not an ideal situation but the Doctor hoped that he did not have to do emergency surgery. He heard the group as they were something beyond the forest. Such a thing was probable. The planet was a Type M planet. Which means there is a chance that there are microbes that might affect them. It all depends on where this planet was on in its evolutionary scale. “ Commander if I may make a suggestion before we depart. We might want to take blood samples right now and store them as a baseline. We do not have a lot of knowledge of the planet’s ecosystem and how it might affect us. It makes sense to have some sort of a baseline before we depart too far” Hunt Comment. “I could join the away team portion in the event that they ran into something” Hunt offered. The Doctor would try to keep up but he knew he was in shape. [Lt. jg Aravis - Jungle Clearing - Unknown Planet] Aravis blinked hazily up at the doctor as her head throbbed. It took her a moment to process what Thea had said, and Aravis realized that her ears were ringing loudly. ' Um,' she said uncertainly, and a little too loudly. ' Not sure. Feel like my head might pop off.' She winced at a particularly sharp stab of pain. ' My ears are ringing.' She made a feeble attempt to match the pitch of what she heard inside her head, which only made it throb worse. |Jungle Clearing || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune | Crewman Alice Duff|Sven listened to Velal. He had no idea that she was telepathic, or empathic. But there were so many security personally it was hard to keep up on everyone. He nodded. "You know your mind and body better than anyone else. If it continues to bother you, let me know." He looked over his shoulder. "It seems the XO is working a plan."The XO was thinking up options. Splitting up as a team to do some exploration, or stick together as one group. Sven did not like the idea of exploring in such a compromised fashion. The only exploration he would be interested in would be to gather necessary resources. Water and food. "Ma'am." he started, "If split up, I recommend splitting up our security group as well. Leaving some behind to guard the site, and some to go with the away team. We have no idea what kind of hazards this planet poses beyond wonky atmosphere."Alice wasn't so sure. She didn't like the idea of splitting up at all, but she knew enough not to say a word. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Jungle Clearing, Unknown Planet] Isaiah had to admit, he was expecting more of a fight or fussing, but Thea took him at his word. He nodded conceding to her terms of letting her know if his symptoms changed or worsened. As she offered him the hypospray, he took hold of it, allowing the tips of his fingers to linger upon her hand for just a moment before finally retrieving it from her. "You'll be the first to know," he told her, " [/font] and thank you."[/font] He pressed the hypospray into his arm, and while the pain began to slowly lessen, he found Dr. Hunt had approached. Perhaps he wasn't out of the woods just yet, after all. Though, it seemed Hunt had a different task altogether, wanting to establish a baseline by extracting some blood. "That'll be fine," he consented. Dr. Hunt mentioned a different type of pain reliever he had aboard the ship, a single-malt whiskey. "If the pain persists after we get back aboard the Mac, I may take you up on that offer, Doc."Isaiah took advantage of the free moments to secure a tricorder, making certain to make Crewman Duff aware for her accounting purposes. He proceeded to scan the area, thinking it best to continue on with their primary mission in conjunction with trying to reestablish contact with the Mac. He was able to confirm what Petty Officer Velal had said about the thorns on some of those trees. He could also see that there were edible flora nearby. Given their location, and the climate, he assumed those in the trees were citrus-type fruits, while a few bushes seemed to contain berries. "There is edible flora about 200 meters east of here," Quinn said as he gestured in the direction. "There are also a great deal more of these trees with the thorns. Make certain to mind those." Quinn then pocketed the tricorder in its holster and moved over to help Alice. "Let's get the medical tent set up first. That'll give us a more sterile environment for our doctors to treat any injuries suffered by the team."

"I will, thank you." She replied, before their attention turned to Commander Baker. So security would be splitting up along with the rest... That made sense. There were too many unknowns on this planet. "If I may, I'd like to join the team that's investigating," she spoke up, addressing both Baker and Aune. Going into the jungle was the only way she'd be able to figure out what was causing the buzzing, and if there was another presence out there... She'd be able to give the team advanced notice. Before a decision could be made, Dr. Hunt approached and requested blood samples. The Petty Officer nodded and turned her arm towards him, grinning slightly at the trickle of green blood. At least it would be easy to know which one was hers... Her attention shifted back to the Security Chief. "Was there something else, sir?" she asked, remembering he had requested a word with her before they'd gotten sidetracked.
Tag Sven Aune Thea Baker | Jungle Clearing || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune || crewman Alice Duff |"Aye," he said to the XO. "I'll stay behind and help secure and set up the site." he looked to Velal and gave her a nod of approval. It was perfectly fine with him that she would go off and do a bit of exploring. It seemed that she had some sort of mental connection, and perhaps this would help her understand better. "That's fine petty officer. Take Alice with you. I expect the two of you to be on your best behavior, and lend a helping hand whenever needed." he gave an order wrapped in a silly joke. "And no, Velal. It's nothing that can wait. You two have fun."Hunt had also appealed to him, and the doctor had wanted a blood sample. For a baseline, and as the doctor explained, he didn't have a current record accessible to him. He thought this was a good idea. "Sure." he said to the doctor. "That won't be a problem." he rolled up a sleeve of his uniform and exposed his beefy forearm. He turned his head back to the XO. "Commander? I was wondering once we get the camp set up and secured, I'd like to try to rig a way to boost our emergency beacon." Sven was hoping that some of his skills as a bunker buster would come in handy. Alice on the other hand tried to put on a brave face. She was going to go off into the wild jungle and explore. Quinn had said there was some sort of food source. Okay, that might work. "Okay. I can do that."Just then the super cute Dr. Hunter came over. He had such sharp features, and a kind of melancholy disposition. Could he get any cuter? She had to shake her head to clear it when she realized he was talking to her. "Oh, yes. Sure. You can take my blood any day."Any day? she mentally chided herself. How corny was that? Oh, Alice. Why did I say that...She swatted some sort of flying gnat away from her face, and a thought struck her. Seeing her orders come to fruition was something that always gave Thea, a sense of hope and purpose even in the most darkest of times. They may have the odds stacked against them but that didn't mean that they were going to let them in win. The way Isaiah had let his fingers linger on her hand minutes earlier had certainly remained in the forefront of her mind, happy that they were at least in the same vicinity thus time as opposed to her being on the ship.
That thought aside, Thea watched as Hunt began to gather blood samples from the rest of the team, before Isaiah gave them some hope in regards to food as well as a warning about the spikes on the trees. " Good idea, let's avoid them as much as possible" she replied as Jov asked if she could be part of investigative team.
" Of course you can Petty Officer".
With Sven assigning Alice to the same team, that left her, Sven and possibly Aravis to take care of things here, which worked perfectly for their current situation. It wasn't ideal but it was the best they could do as she acknowledged him, before he made a suggestion about their emergency beacon. " It's certainly worth a try Chief" she consented as Hunt took her blood.
" If you have everything Doctor, then prepare to move out once the others are ready. Those who are staying can finish setting the camp up".

[Jungle Clearing – Unknown Planet]
Hunt retrieved the blood of Crewman Duff as she mentioned she could take his blood any day. He smiled at the comment and mentioned, “Don’t worry. None of this would hurt a bit”. The Doctor mentioned as he tried to remain calm. She appeared to be a little nervous, but that was normal as people were scared of needles since the beginning of time. He then commented, “You know, sometimes, I also get nervous around doctors too. They can be so intimidating. Don't worry I am just another guy.” He commented with a slight smile as the bug incident happened.
Hunt would try to smile and gently try to place his hand onto her shoulder. “Crewman, it’s ok. That’s why we took the baseline blood. If you get a foreign substance in your body, such as poison, bacteria, viruses, or any imbalances, it would be easier to diagnose you and deal with the issue. Don’t worry about it. We should be fine. One step at a time” The Doctor smiled as he focused on the task. “We should focus on our departure.”
“Aye, Aye, Commander,” Hunt responded to the Commander’s order. He gave a slight nod as he continued preparing himself for the journey ahead. He had a mixed level of emotions, from anxiety to excitement. He had not had many opportunities before exploring, and it was one of the reasons he joined Starfleet. He wanted to be on away teams with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy and discovering uncharted planets.
When he was in Starfleet, the exploration missions were the hardest and the ones most sought after. Here, he is trying to be on the edge of civilization. In a way, he was living his fantasy, but it was working a little differently and 50 years late.
The Lieutenant looked into the sky before leaving and wondered about the climate and the history on this planet. The climate and how it would affect them was also a factor. He knew that Starfleet Tents were durable with normal weather anomalies, but since this was a different planet with a different ecosystem, it stands to reason that it might not follow their same rules. He thought to address this concern to his superiors or not.
He made sure that his gear was ready to go and spoke to himself, “Ok. Let’s Mosey”. He made sure that he had everything. He equipped himself with a Tricorder, made sure he had his medical tricorder in working order. He had a Medkit with him in case there was a medical emergency. Lastly, he approached the area in which they were some Type II phasers. Even though he seems to be familiar, they were very different from what he was used to. “Well, this is different,” he commented as he picked it up. He was not expecting to arm himself into a scientific away mission, but the circumstances were what they were.

[Lt. jg Aravis - Unknown Planet - Jungle Clearing]
Aravis nodded slightly to give the new doctor permission to draw her blood and smiled faintly at his joking. She didn't feel up to much more than that.
Then she sat still while Dr. Baker treated her. Slowly the pounding headache eased and the ringing in her ears lessened. Aravis closed her eyes in relief. Once she wasn't battling pain, the pilot was able to look around the clearing and take stock of their situation.
The runabout was tilted almost completely nose down and canted over to one side. Aravis could see that several members of the away team were preparing to go exploring. Since Dr. Baker had told her to take it easy, she was pretty sure volunteering for that group wouldn't fly, but Aravis hated to sit around while those that were staying worked.
She eyeballed the XO and slowly tried to get to her feet, but ended up plopping back on her rear when a wave of dizziness overtook her. Okay, then. Guess I'm taking it easy. Aravis reached for a pack someone had set or dropped nearby and pulled out the water to take a sip.

Second to that, I'll likely pick up a few samples along the way, so we can learn more about our surroundings. Questions?"Isaiah scanned the group to see if any had actually popped up. He used his tricorder to send the path he'd come up with to Velal's tricorder. "Velal, you've got point," he said as he nodded for the security officer to begin. Isiaah glanced over at Dr. Hunt. "If it seems necessary, I may call upon you for assistance in collecting samples, Doctor."

[PO2 Jovireh Velal - Unknown Planet - Jungle Clearing]
Jovireh nodded with a 'thank you' to the Commanders as they agreed to her joining the investigation. She gave Aune a grin as he added a bit of humor to his permission. Jov hadn't worked with Duff directly before, but she doubted either of them would be a problem for the rest of the team.
When Aune said not to worry about what he'd initially planned on saying, she nodded and let it go. Once upon a time her anxiety would have nagged at her over not knowing, but over the years she had learned if the other person felt it wasn't important enough to talk about immediately, then it wasn't bad enough for her to stress over.
She walked over to Alice, and double-checked her phaser and tricorder in preparation while waiting for the men to join them. Once they were all together, Quinn issued orders, and Jov nodded at taking point. Her tricorder beeped as it received the information from the science officer, and she quickly programmed in the approximate location to the GPS. The Petty Officer moved towards the edge of the clearing one more, and again the buzzing in her mind got louder. Hopefully she'd be able to figure out the cause soon.

[Jungle Clearing - Unknown Planet] Watching as the investigative team got themselves organised, Thea knew that splitting those present had been the right thing to do, especially with so many unknowns. Naturally she would worry until they returned but they still had comm badges and of course they had a mission to complete. Then they were off and Thea wished them well, before her attention moved to Aravis who had tried to get up and for now, the XO wanted her to rest as much as she could. They weren't going anywhere and at least those who were staying had stuff to do. Some groundwork had already been done with the med tent and between her and Sven, it shouldn't take too long to do the rest. When the security chief then spoke to her as they began to organise the other tents, he made another good point. " Another good idea, Chief and I know how to use a phaser so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty" she replied, glad that she had kept up to date with her weapon proffiency. The warning that followed was duly noted as they didn't know a lot about this place and they couldn't get lazy or assume that everything was going to go smoothly or when the Mac would find them. " Duly noted and I agree we can't get too complacent and it's better to be prepared".

[Jungle Clearing – Unknown Planet]
Hunt listened to the instructions of the Chief Science Officer. The mission that they were assigned is a Standard Recon exploratory mission which should be relatively simple. They were there to see if the fruit and water source is viable for them. Looking at the preliminary terrain, it did not look that rough, and he had been training for this type of mission his entire life.
“No, questions, Sir,” Hunt added to indicate that he had heard the briefing and acknowledged his role. As they began their walk, the Chief Science Officer informed him that he might need his help collecting samples. For Jonathan, this made logical sense. As a Doctor, he was also a Scientist, and he knew some basic sciences as required in Medical School. He was not close to an expert as Lt. Commander Quinn, but he felt he could play one on a play if needed. As he walked, he wondered about plays or theatre…do they still do exist anymore? He remembered that part of the weekend was that several crewmembers would showcase their talents so the rest of the ship could enjoy themselves. The entertainment was very different without holodecks.
“No problem, I would be more than happy to help you collect samples, Sir,” Hunt mentioned to his Senior officer. In reality, he did not mind, and it would make sense to have him make some scans with the Medical Tricorder. He continues his walk with a slight smile as he had plenty of equipment with him.
As the walk continued, he noticed the Crewman, who believed he was nervous of needles or doctors. Hopefully, his conversation earlier would assure her that he is merely another human being. Hunt smiled at her question and thought for a second how to answer it. “Technically…52 years,” Hunt commented with a slight smile. He knew the claim sounded outrageous but little did she know he was telling the truth. “I’ve read your Medical Records, Crewman. But I did not read your personnel records, so what’s your specialty on the ship, and how long have you been serving on the Mac?” The Doctor inquired as he kept the conversation light as they continued on their walk.

[Base Camp - Jungle Clearing] Spreading out the last of the tents and trying not to give herself another injury by being careful. Thea looked over at Aravis when the pilot offered to take the first watch. Whilst she was still a little concerned that she wasn't able to stand just yet, it was also understandable but at least the pain had gone. Agreeing with Sven, that she only had to let them know if it got to much. " That's okay with me Lieutenant and yes just let us know, if you need a break".At her suggestion about the runabout, Thea looked towards the ship that was still balancing in the tree. Listening as both Aravis and Sven discussed it and shared their thoughts on the matter. Perhaps it would be something to revisit when the others returned as Sven then spoke about whether they focused on the runabout or boosting a signal to a transponder first. Thea knew that question was directed to her and knew what her answer would be. " Let's focus on boosting the signal first and we can always work on getting the runabout down, when the others get back".

[PO2 Jovireh Velal - Unknown Planet - Jungle]Everyone fell into place, ready to go, and the Petty Officer stepped cautiously past the treeline. Tricorder readings and her own senses didn't pick up any life other than insects and the occasional bird, but there were still plenty of hazards on the ground. Without an actual path to follow, she had to pay extra attention to the roots jutting above the soil and the tangles of vines and branches that wove across the ground. The unfamiliar pressure in her mind remained steady and constant, but it was getting easier for her to ignore as she had something else to focus all of her attention on. Jovireh had to admit... it was rather beautiful, and if it hadn't been for the atmospheric disturbance that blocked transporters and crashed their runabout, she'd likely consider it somewhere she'd be interest in visiting again, in less dire circumstances. Jungle
Meanwhile... The sentries were sent to investigate the disturbance, and together they marched away from their colony, into the clearing where the intruders had been detected. They moved silently, their miniscule bodies barely registering on the leaves and moss beneath them, but should one turn around they would see a black mass a meter across streaming into the clearing from beneath the underbrush beyond.

Aravis started scanning the clearing, up into the trees, along the ground, as close to 360 degrees around her as she could. Her only complete blind spot was due to the tree that she was leaning against. On her third pass, Aravis noticed new movement off to her right. She narrowed her eyes, trying to make out what was making the leaves rustle on the ground. Suddenly she didn't want to be sitting down anymore, though she couldn't tell what was causing the disturbance. Planting a hand against the tree's trunk, Aravis rose cautiously, standing still for a minute with her eyes fixed on the black mass that was beginning to increase in size along the ground. ' Commanders?' Aravis said, her voice wavering as it rose in pitch at the end. ' We might have a problem.' She pointed at the whatever-it-was. ---------- Tag Thea Baker, Sven Aune and Jovireh Velal

Soft tags away team [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Jungle, Unknown Planet] Isaiah moved along through the jungle following Jovireh's lead. As she navigated the team through the brush, he took advantage of the opportunity to continue to take readings on their surroundings. Nothing stood out as overtly anomalous from what he could tell. He only made brief scans and captured a few images with the use of the tricorder. He made note of several samples he'd collect on the way back, but for now, the priority was to make it to the food source and to check on the water supply. Once that was done, he'd quench his own curiosities. He did overhear some of the exchange between Hunt and Duff, especially the mention of his length of service. Dr. Hunt was quite a scientific curiosity in his own right. To be able to span different eras of the Federation wasn't typical for many humans. And while it presented itself with the promise of longevity, he had to imagine that it came at quite a price, knowing that you'd left so many of the people you cared about behind. "It looks like the fruit we're looking for is just up ahead," he called out. Thus far, it seemed that Velal hadn't detected anything dangerous, which for once was a good sign. Hopefully, their good fortune would continue, and they'd be able to find a way to safely get back aboard the Mac.
