[Unknown Planet - Runabout] Sheer will and determination had allowed Thea the chance to make it into the runabout without giving the swarming mass the opportunity to consume her. Of course that was just her brain imagining the worst and perhaps the idea of avoiding horror holo movies for a while. Letting the relief wash through her for a moment as Aravis joined her with Sven ensuring that they made it inside. It took Thea a couple of seconds to realise that Carlisle must of been inside the ship all of this time. Whilst relieved to see her, her comment wasn't that far off, even if they didn't have any answers for the sudden appearance of the swarm. " No idea Carlisle and yet I get the feeling that us just being here caused it. Although that's something we need to learn more about" she replied as Aravis suggested that they shut the hatch and hope that the creatures couldn't eat their way inside. " Agreed and let's hope not, but we have weapons if we need them. Chief Aune, could you see if we still have shields?, Aravis contact the others and update them ". Orders given and with adrenaline still coursing through her, Thea approached the hatch controls and activated them, hoping that they would close fully. The hiss signalling that it had worked was very much welcomed. Yet it didn't reassure her completely, especially with the threat that remained outside.

[Jungle - Location] As the Petty Officer extended her hand so he could do treatment, Hunt remained quiet as he scanned the small scratch. As he scans, his tricorder did a couple of beeps as it detected an anomaly in the cut instead of interrupting the conversation between her and the Chief Science Officer. Hunt listened as she began, convinced less and less that they were alone on the planet. If so, then the situation they are in would deal with sentient life, which would mean that they might need to learn to communicate or defend themselves from an intruder. “ Interesting,” Hunt commented as he gathered in his thoughts. As he was finishing the scans, he then said, “ Well, good news and bad news. The bad news is that you have an unknown bacterium in your wounds. I have taken the scans, cataloged them for further study tonight. The good news is, as I theorized, we are both unknown or rather small resistance to one another. So standard medical procedures worked well.” Hunt finished with a smile. Even with his smile, that was some concern as it would be hard to predict how this environment. He observed the bug-looking creature next to them, and he did not move suddenly. Since he was next to the Petty Officer, she could move at will, but Hunt remained relatively still. “ Ok…I’ll bite on your theory. If there is a sentient lifeform, it would probably be curious or see us as intruders. If it’s curious, then the being might try to communicate with us. This means we should vary in what we do. So far, we have not seen anything majorly hostile towards us,” Hunt stated as he took a cautionary approach toward the wasp.

{Quoted Posts} [PO2 Jovireh Velal - Unknown Planet - Jungle]The brief moment of mental pain had been more than enough to distract her from the physical pain, and she was about to turn down the doctor's request to treat the cuts when Quinn essentially ordered her to let him. So without argument, she lifted her hand to give Hunt access, turning to Isaiah to answer his other question. "I'm fine... but the longer we're out here, the more I become convinced we're not alone." Jovireh still couldn't explain exactly what she'd been feeling, but after what she'd just heard, it was the only thing that made sense. "It feels like the constant presence of another telepath in my mind... But instead of thoughts, I just hear static. Psionic white noise, essentially." That wasn't helpful, she knew, but it was the best she had right now. Her attention was caught by a movent in the brambles, and she looked over to see a wasp-like creature emerge, hovering closer and closer to her outstretched hand. "Let me guess, that thinks I'm food, too?" she asked, paling slightly at the thought, her brown eyes fixed on the flying insect. Remembering her survival training on Earth, she tried not to make any sudden movements, but hoped that the doctor would hurry up with whatever he wanted to do to her wrist so they could get away from this particular part of the jungle. It didn't seem to like her very much. Or maybe it liked her a little too much... Commander Isaiah Quinn - Jungle, Unknown Planet] Isaiah was both perturbed and intrigued from everything he was learning. He continued to digest Jovireh's report about a constant psionic presence of sort, as Dr. Hunt reported on the security officer's wound. Luckily, it seemed that she wouldn't suffer any major ailments because of that. "Doctor, I'm probably preaching to the choir, but continue to monitor Velal for any lingering side effects." It wasn't that he thought the doctor needed to be made aware of that, but Isaiah wanted to be apprised immediately if there were any changes. "I wouldn't say food necessarily," Isaiah responded. "It could have just as easily been reacting to external stimuli: body heat... proximity... pressure... even scent or pheromones." He studied the creature as it hovered in place. "Easy, doc. It could be territorial as well.""And perhaps it's not a matter of sentience," Isaiah posed. "We can't rule out the possibility that this lifeform is simply psionic by nature. For example, what if a cat didin't have an audible meow, but projected its instinctual reactions at us. There's no reason to think Jovireh's brain could interpret it any differently than a meow. However, we could infer from... body language, or a hiss. Perhaps that was the flare you just experienced."The science officer turned his attention back to Jovireh. "I don't suppose you can narrow down a general direction for this potential lifeform, can you?" he asked. Isaiah paused for an answer, but he thought it best to contact Thea, to make certain that she and the others were aware of another potential presence here. =A= "Quinn to Baker. Velal believes there could be some sort of psionic presence on this planet. I wanted to check in to see if your team has noticed anything or anyone along the perimeter of the camp, in case they were curious about the runabout's crash." =A=

[Unknown Planet - Runabout Roundabout] Carlisle had been hoping for a bit more time to work with the runabout, but it seemed that nature was calling. Well howling and trying to beat in the door soon, more truthfully. It was time to hand the reins back to the proper Starfleet officers. Hesitantly, she folded her arms behind her back and approached Thea. ”Hey, Commander. Sorry to interrupt. I’ve had a few diagnostic programs running while I was running a systems check on the warp core. Results for weapons and shields should be coming through soonish. Warp core itself seems to be holding out alright.”Just as reluctantly, she looked over to the big security officer and the pilot, before adding, ”Couldn’t help overhearing what you were saying about the uh… things out there. Maybe instead of going scorched earth on the beasties, we could try an unorthodox idea? When and if shields come back online, could try modulating the harmonics, find a frequency that repels them or maybe even disrupts their hive mind? Just throwing out my thoughts here.”A runabout was larger than a shuttlecraft, but still there wasn’t much space to go as she attempted to back up, and make herself seem smaller. ”I'll just stay over here, out of the way, while you do what you do.” Silently, in her mind, she added, And hope we don’t die. Carlisle made no attempt to explain herself or why she was there just yet. They seemed to be placing a bit more into their continued survival and she wasn’t about to try and distract them from that goal. It benefitted her as well, so it was only logical.

[Runabout - Unknown Planet] Even though there was still a very serious threat outside of the runabout. Thea didn't want to just sit down and wait it out, at least not until they knew more and it was safe to do so. Everything ached still but that was a small price to pay for remaining alive. Okay there was a chance that they might not make it off this planet. However that was her burden as Isaiah made contact, saving them from having to make the call to update the others about their predicament. Her boyfriend's timing was definitely fortuitous as she listened and gained some understanding of what was going on. =/\= Baker to Quinn, that does make sense and yes, we were just about to call and inform you, that we've had to seek shelter in the runabout, owing to an unknown black mass of creatures that are trying to trap us. At least that's the impression we're getting and phasers don't seem to have much of an impact =/\=Experience had taught them not to dismiss or discount anything, especially when dealing with the unknown. So hopefully they could determine exactly what was going on. Leaving the channel open, Thea looked over as Carlisle told her about the diagnostics that she had been running. " Thank you Carlisle, I appreciate it" she replied warmly, before she made a suggestion about the creatures. Mulling it over as their stowaway offered to keep out of the way. " You don't need to do that Carlisle, work with the Chief and Aravis on the systems as that's a great idea".

[PO2 Jovireh Velal - Unknown Planet - Jungle]Foreign bacteria, just was she needed. She wouldn't be surprised if she made it back to the Mac with a fever. Downside to growing up in space. Jovireh pushed the thought out of her mind, and shook her head in response to Quinn's question. "It was weaker back in the clearing... But it's been pretty steady in strength since we left. At first it made me think it was some sort of natural psionic field... But that wouldn't explain everything."When the doctor moved towards the wasp, it's flight pattern changed suddenly and swiftly, making Jov jump back away from it slightly. It buzzed loudly as it drifted back and forth in front of the man, before swooping in, jutting its centimeter-long stinger towards him. Hearing Commander Baker's response about a black mass that had them trapped, the Petty Officer knew their timeframe just got shortened. "What do you say, sir? Should we get to the next location and get what we came for, or head back to help?" It didn't sound like the others were in immediate need of assistance, and if the mass was impervious to phaser fire it might be best for them to wait for it to move on. But it wasn't her call.

Commander Isaiah Quinn - Jungle, Unknown Planet] As Isaiah listened to Thea he admittedly grew quite concerned about what he was hearing. Something had forced them to seek shelter in the runabout and didn't seem deterred by phaser fire. He knew the question was coming, and Velal didn't disappoint as she asked the very question that was on his mind: their next move. They could move to the next location, but somehow finding a water source seemed to pale in comparison to doing something to assist the others. The science officer took a deep breath. "We're heading back," he said simply. His eyes scanned his tricorder as he attempted to scan the direction that they had come from. "If there's something out here that is immune to our phasers, we should find another suitable defense before proceeding further." That may have been the reasoning he gave, but he couldn't deny that his motives were mixed. Isaiah started to move in that direction, his mind already scrambling for theories. Velal, Duff... I need tactical options on how to disperse this... mass. Doctor, can you recall any species that have a natural resistance to our hand phaser technology? That could give us some ideas on mounting a possible defense as well." As he started back along the path, Quinn reached up to tap his comm badge. "Roundabout, we're moving back towards your position. If sensors are operable, can you detect any psionic energy in your vicinity?"

[Runabout - Unknown Planet]
" Understood, keep me updated" Thea replied as Sven disappeared into the aft compartment in order to work on the shield generators. With Aravis going to assist him, there was little that Thea could do for the moment, other than keep watch. A shiver then went down her spine as noises reminiscent of raindrops began to sound across the Roundabout's hull. Quickly coming to the conclusion that it wasn't rain, especially as the viewport suddenly became black as night.
Only this wasn't nighttime as it writhed, essentially trapping them inside as Isaiah's voice echoed through the still open comm channel. Slightly mesmerised by their unknown captors until she realised what her Boyfriend had said.
=/\= Be advised, these creatures are now surrounding the Runabout so approach with caution... Thea paused to ask those with her about the sensors.
" Could one of you check the sensors and start scanning for psionic energy, it could give us answers about why we've been attacked".
=/\= Stay safe Commander and we'll see you all shortly, will keep you appraised about what we find, Baker out =/\=

[Jungle – Location ] He listened to the Chief Science Officer as he mentioned that the possibility of the being not being sentient but reacting to different environments. He understood basic principles of Science from his Medical degree but he was hardly an expert most of the fields. Their conversation was interrupted as they heard a distress signal coming from the camp. He listened and remained silent as he waited for his orders. As he heard the Commander staying they are heading back. The Doctor merely nodded as he listened to his orders. “ Let’s not forget out objective” Hunt said. As he stopped for a second and collected the Fruit Samples. He placed some of them in his bag as they would be able to study them in detail like the bacteria. He listened to the Commander and began thinking “ Almost any being that is energy resistant or energy absorbent would be harder to kill with phasers like the Armus” Hunt mentioned as the solution might be to switch either weapons to conventional or rather change the approach. “ It would be hard to determine without a detailed scan and analysis. If I could get close enough I might be able to figure something out” Hunt said as he would need to do a detail scan to get a better idea.

Then the enigmatic Carisle mentioned that she was accessing the runabouts systems. A civilian with no starfleet clearance. Or none he was aware of, truly disturbed the man. But he had bigger issues to deal with at the moment. Survival. The diagnostic reports flashed on the terminal. He let out a grunt of frustration. There was a major fault in the coil assembly of the shield generators. "Excuse me." he said, pushing past the commander. "There's a serious issue with the shield generators. I'm heading aft to tear into it. Maybe we can get them online."He headed into the aft compartment and found the bulkhead he was looking for. He pulled a panel off and started digging into the guts of the assembly. "Great" he said. "The linkage is fried. Anyone got a bobby pin? I can bypass it with a short, but it's going to hurt like a mother."Being a combat engineer had its positive side. Knowing how to jury rig things with shoelaces, a cardboard box and pocket lint to make it work. But it also had a down side. Pain. Tags Thea Baker Ozu Saya Carlisle [PO2 Jovireh Velal - Unknown Planet - Jungle]Foreign bacteria, just was she needed.

Meanwhile... Faint pitter-patters reminiscent of raindrops gradually sounded across the hull of the runabout, starting below the hatch and spreading up and out. It wasn't long before the writhing black mass could be seen descending over the view port. The vessel was covered.

Instead, she followed Sven to the rear compartment to see if she could help him, shuddering as the sound of tiny feet became louder and louder as the creatures engulfed the runabout. When the security chief asked for a bobby pin, she gave him a slight smile and pulled a pin from her hair where she always had to hold down a few flyaways. ---------- Tag Carlisle , Thea Baker , Sven Aune |Runabout Roundabout, Aft compartment. || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune |The large man looked overhead as the ominous sound of critters swarmed over the vessel. It sent a shiver down his spine. He took the bobby pin from Aravis. "Thank you." he said as he bent it into a U-shape. "When I cross the contacts with the pin, there's going to be some fireworks. I'll need you to access the LCARS panel and reroute about 10% of the auxiliary power into the batteries." This procedure was going to blow a battery, but better that than his brain. He took a deep breath, touched one end of the pin to a bare contact lead. "Ready?"He touch the other end. There was a shower of sparks and the compartment was filled with the acrid smell of ozone, and Sven grunted in pain. The lights flickered in the craft as the shields were jumped and the welcoming hum of the now operational shield generator filled in around them. Along with the stench of burnt flesh. Sven held his blackened fingers, his arms trembling and twitching from the electrical energy that coursed through his body. The shields were up. But at what cost. He knew that Saya was going to murder him later. Tags Thea Baker@ozysaya Jovireh VelalCarlisle

[PO2 Jovireh Velal - Unknown Planet - Jungle]Jovireh watched as Hunt successfully grabbed a few samples to make the mission worthwhile, and noted with slight envy how the brambles constricted and lashed out towards him, but missed their mark each time. Lucky him knew what to expect and could prepare for it. Her hand flexed slightly, recalling the lingering pain in her wrist. Being the bait was part of her job though, she knew that coming here. Her attention turned back to Quinn when he asked her and Duff for ideas on how to disperse the mass surrounding the runabout. "Difficult to say without knowing exactly what it is... But we can try something more solid. Rocks or tree branches. May not hurt it, but if we come at it from different sides we might at least be able to run it off." In her experience... if something didn't respond to energy attacks - such as phasers - then physical attacks usually worked. And vice versa. Galaxy-wide evolution hadn't had a chance to adapt to both.
Meanwhile... the moment the shields activated, the sounds outside the runabout instantly silenced, and the blackness fell away from the viewport.
The constant buzzing in the telepath's mind once more shifted into a shrill shriek, this time drawing a strangled cry from her throat as she doubled over and clutched at her head. This time there was a sensation that came with it, and an icy feeling of dread crept through her as she gasped against the pain. It only lasted a moment before the shriek faded once more into a dull buzz, but the pounding headache and rush of adrenaline it had caused lingered. "We have to go. Now!" Her voice shook as she slowly straightened, pausing just long enough to let the stars clear from her vision before she started back the way they had come, taking point as she had on the way in. She couldn't describe the sudden urgency she felt, and only hoped that if Quinn wanted answers, he'd be willing to get them once they were back at the clearing. The Petty Officer had only taken a few steps when there was an audible buzzing coming from the midst of the berry thicket behind them. In a matter of moments, a wave of the wasp-like creatures flew from amidst the brambles, flying aggressively towards the away team. Apparently they had overstayed their welcome. "Let's move!" she called out to the others, and quickly headed down the path they had forged on their way through. She didn't stop until she had reached the edge of the clearing. The wasps had followed them the entire way, but so long as the team kept moving, they didn't get within arms' reach. Jovireh couldn't help but feel like they were being herded - by insects no less - and could only hope that they were intending to make them leave, rather than rounding them up for a slaughter. Her head was pounding, and her vision blurred if she looked around too quickly, but she had refused to stop until they made it to relative safety. As she crossed the treeline into the clearing, she looked behind her to make sure everyone else was there, and noticed that their pursuers had stopped about a meter behind them. She wished she knew if that was a good sign or not. The immediate threat paused, Jovireh turned towards the runabout, noticing there was no sign of the mass that Thea had indicated. There was nothing surrounding the runabout, nothing in the clearing that hadn't been there before they left. She reached for her tricorder to scan the area, but stopped when she saw movement amongst the trees across from her. All along the treeline, more flying insects appeared, hovering just beyond the clearing, and completely surrounding them. The pressure in her mind suddenly spiked once more, driving her to her knees. "Get to the runabout!" she told the others through clenched teeth. A thin sheen of sweat broke out across her face as she struggled against the pain, staggering to get to back on her feet. Her vision blurred, the white noise in her mind increasing to overpower any audible sounds.

[Roundabout - Unknown Planet]
Hearing the crackle from the sparks, followed by the acrid smoke that began filling the cabin, told Thea that Sven had been successful in raising the shields. However the grunt of pain instantly made her turn as the Doctor within began to visually check over the Security Chief. " I'm going to have to check you over, Chief, I think we might have another medkit in the ship".
That was assuming that they hadn't all been transferred to the clearing when they had been forced to initially abandon the runabout. Then again with any luck, Hunt and the others would be back soon and she could get him to check over Sven. Either way he wouldn't have to suffer for too long, especially when the viewport cleared, leaving the natural light to shine in once more.
" The creatures have gone but that doesn't mean that they won't come back. I'll contact the others and advise them of this turn of events and get an ETA on their arrival so we can try to get out of here".
Tapping her badge, their was a sense of urgency in Thea's voice as she activated the channel. =/\= Baker to exploration team, the creatures have gone and I believe that they didn't particularly like our shields. I recommend that we try to leave before they come back, what's your ETA? =/\=

[Jungle – Location – Getting an intensive workout due to Wasp]
Hunt listed to the Petty Officer as she gave them instructions to move as the Warp-like creatures tried to approach them. As they continued their run, Hunt observed the Wasp following them. “Maybe this would slow them down.” He said as he took a piece of cloth. During the run, he took his phaser and placed it on heat mode.
In the run as well focused on what was going on. He took one of the items in the medkits to paralyze limbs in case of fractures. He took the item and wrapped it in the cloth. With great care began to fire the phaser into the cloth piece, hoping that it would get on a low fire. The effect is that he was carrying a makeshift smoke touch in the hope that the smoke would scare the Warp’s like creature away or maybe cause them to hesitate.
Hunt did not know if it would work on this planet, but he knew that many animals have an instinct to avoid smoke as it would indicate fire which is a natural enemy of them.
They kept the run going as he observed when they reached the clearing that they stopped their pursuit. Soon after, he observed Petty Officer Velal fall as she appeared to have a headache.
She asked them to run to the runabout as the path was clear. He stopped for a second and observed her. He then remembers himself as he stayed behind on the ship. The decision altered his life forever. For a second time, he felt slow as he remembered his own feelings as being left behind. He understood the feelings.
He stopped and ran back towards Jovireh; he then would try and placed his hands. He would try and give her support. With his smoke shift smoke stick, he said, “Looks like we are stuck until we get to the end Petty Officer. Do you mind giving me a description of what you are feeling?” The Doctor asked as he debated to give her sedative medication or leave it as is.
