[Bridge - USS Mac] As Judy acknowledged what she had said and agreed that she had made a good call. Thea smiled as the she then acknowledged Niles as he returned to Tactical, before answering the CO. " Agreed and we don't want to keep them waiting". Considering that they weren't exactly bosom buddies with the Talorians, the crew didn't need to cast any further doubt on their abilities by being tardy. No it was best to get everyone prepped and ready to move as Judy then gave the order to drop out of warp. That was quickly acknowledged by their new flight officer Ensign Litt, before Tactical informed them about the message that they had received from Talor Prime. Whilst she hadn't anticipated them having a welcoming committee, it would make their arrival a little easier as she sat down momentarily to accept the data transfer. " Thank you, Mr Niles and looks like our destination is an Arrivals pad, inside the city. I recommend that we get the rest of the teams to the transporter so we can depart as soon as we're in orbit".It wouldn't take long for them to do so and Thea was already standing as she waited for Judy to respond.

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Science Lab, USS Mac ] Quinn stepped out of his office, his eyes glued to the PADD he held in his hand. The inventory of equipment to be used had already been sent to the Cargo Bay, and the members of the team had been assigned. So, what was held his attention so deeply: researching the Talorian data banks that had been shared with him. He'd spent the better part of the trip here examining everything he could about the planet for a hint of what could be responsible for the floods: aggravated weather patterns, global warming, some sort of celestial event like solar flares... The problem was, none of those could be ruled out completely, and the Talorians hadn't been helpful in pointing to any particular one possibility. In fact, a few of the teleconferences he'd had enroute had been rather brief. It was obvious that some of the Talorians were still reluctant to except their help. And it wasn't necessarily Starfleet's help, but that of the Mac. Considering what had happened during their last encounter with the Talorians, one would think that a little distance would be warranted. Yet, the Mac was closest and best-equipped vessel in the planet's vicinity. In essence, everyone had to get over their feelings and do what was necessary for the planet's sake, as well as all those people. Quinn set the PADD down after transferring the images he'd been looking at onto a larger screen. His arms folded in front of his chest as he examined the weather chart. His head turned away from the screen as he heard Lt. Miren enter the lab. "How'd things go down in Sickbay?" Isaiah asked, not that he expected to hear anything less than well. His eyes drifted back towards the screen.
Tag: Syl O'Connell (Cerjess) [Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - USS Mac - Science Lab]Hearing a voice as he entered the lab, Cerjess looked over and straightened his posture when he saw the department head. "Good, sir," he reported. "We got all the supplies packed and ready for transport. Commander Baker wants the away team prepped and in the transporter room in just under an hour." That was really all there was to report, and the question had sounded more like small talk anyway, so Cerjess moved to his station - still listening in case Commander Quinn said something else - and opened the kit he had packed earlier. The Trill looked through the instruments, making sure he hadn't forgotten anything, and trying to distract himself from the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. While normally he would be thrilled about the opportunity to work in his chosen field... These weren't normal circumstances. He knew any answers these instruments provided would mean a dire future for the Talorians. He just had to hope that they instead ruled out possible causes for the planet's flooding.

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Science Lab, USS Mac ] Cerjess' words met Isaiah's expectations. As he assumed, there was nothing to be concerned about, at least in terms of preparing. The Trill science officer also mentioned that they were expected to meet in the transporter roomw ithin the hour. Instinctively, his eyes moved towards the chronometer to mark the time. It certainly wouldn't be long, but he knew how easy it could be for him to lose himself in the work that stood before him. "Understood," he stated. "We won't keep them waiting." His hand then gestured to a portion of the map of Talor Prime. "There at the northern continent," he said as he pointed out the location, "is that beginning to show increased potential of flooding as well?" Isaiah wanted to rely upon the expertise of his fellow scientist, but it did seem to have many of the markers that he'd observed in the other areas which were flooded. He only hoped that the Talorians would be more forthcoming in person. Because there still wasn't a definitive cause that Isaiah could identify.

[ Elder Kohr'don - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City] He knew that he had no place here, but he also knew that none of them would understand what was happening... why it was happening. No, they were all walking blindly into the Valav, the Great Balance. Long ago, their people were strong and righteous. It was might that had given them this world that they called home. Yet, they had grown lazy and complacent with time. They had reached the point where they were now reaching out for help to survive, rather than deep within to persevere. The planet sensed the weakness and had finally betrayed them. They had lost her respect. None of them understood... not like Orya had. He allowed his mind a brief respite, thinking over the fallen princess. She truly understood the old ways. She knew how to harness the power that now lay dormant in the heart of billions. What could have been a raging inferno was now nothing more than smoldering ash. All because one of their own chose to smother the flame of the one that would have been their savior. He often mused that had he only been a younger man, he would have been a fervent spear on the battlefield and in her bed. Yet, such things clearly weren't meant to be. Now, they were left with the likes of Princess Elena, who would greet these off-worlders with her arms spread wide. She believed she welcomed peace, but invites a dagger to hear heart just as warmly. And then, there was L'Sho. He would fashion himself the protector of this world, but has no respect for tradition. Instead he blankets himself in might of the Talorian fleets, yet many warriors of today are nothing more than faithless pawns, whose blades may as well be whithered by rust. His staff sounded rhythmically with each step, announcing his presence. It wasn't required, but it was respected... as if nothing more than ceremonial. The young were still tolerant of the old ways. Perhaps this would be the generation to do away with it altogether. After all, they had embraced the Federation. Kohr'don could only hope that his eyes would see eternity long before that came to pass. "Greetings Princess Elena," the elder spoke as he neared the two women. He turned his head and nodded in acknowledgement of the young woman, Kaela. Her presence here told Kohr'don that either her superiors didn't care for this collaboration, or perhaps the princess simply cared for a more amenable audience. "I regret that brighter days haven't brought us together."

[Ensing Richard J. Litt - Helm, Bridge, USS Mac]Litt had a smile on his face, but that smile was actually more of a disguise than real animation. It was the first time that Litt was taking a large ship on a real mission. Until then, all he had done was simulated flights. "That's it, Litt, now it's for real, let's try not to screw it up." He thought to himself as he piloted the ship, super concentrated. He came to his senses when Captain Judith asked him to remove the warp ship and reduce it to a quarter of an impulse. “Aye ma'am, taking out the warp in 3… 2… 1…” He did a quick countdown and left the warp, reducing the ship to a quarter of an impulse. "We are in a Ma'am impulse room." He said and returned to paying attention to his panels as he continued to fly. [ LT Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ]For a brief moment, Niles found himself actually fearing that he would be expected to keep the watch. After all there was no obligation for his superiors to take the conn if they were up on the Bridge unless it was their watch; and, truth be told, if they just wanted to sit in the middle chair and do paperwork while technically on watch, they could pass it on to others. But, when the Captain accepted his invitation, it took all of his willpower not to let out a sigh of relief, but he could not school his face enough to actually conceal just how much he appreciated her doing so. The Talorians probably still had a bone to pick with him for 'murdering' their princess, and he certainly resented the accusations of murder levied against him and the whole crew of the Mac; and that was even before going into the matter of the Jupiter Star and how they'd never so much as acknowledged one of their leaders had actually led a crew that butchered Federation civilian spacers on their own ship. "Aye Captain, you have the conn," he acknowledged before stepping away from his favoured spot in the XO's seat and back towards his station at Tactical One where he relieved one Ensign Lynch and he quickly reconfigured the console to the layout that was most efficient for him. And, frankly, it was a good thing he had been relieved for Commander Baker arrived on the Bridge, which would have made the center chairs a little crowded, and would have made him relocate one way or another. And, not long afterwards, the Captain ordered them to drop out of warp and the helmsman, one Ensign Litt with whom Niles was not entirely familiar beyond being officer of the watch while he had the helm, took the Mac out of warp and back into normal space. And, just as he expected, his instruments were quick to report that their transponder had been queried, and that they were on the receiving end of the Talorians' active sensors. However, not seeing anything that resembled a weapons lock, he simply acknowledged the warning on his board, and then a light started blinking, indicating a written message, which he opened. However, he did not send anything out yet, but instead simply reported the contact. "Captain, the Talorians have acknowledged our arrival in system and sent us some instructions. We have routing and orbit directives, beam-down coordinates for our relief efforts, and it looks like there will be a reception committee for the ground component's leadership. Forwarding the whole package to your station and Commander Baker's, and respective instructions to Ops and the Helm, pending your orders." [Bridge - USS Mac] As Judy acknowledged what she had said and agreed that she had made a good call. Thea smiled as the she then acknowledged Niles as he returned to Tactical, before answering the CO. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen - Bridge, USS Mac]"Very good, Ensign," Judy commended Litt at the helm. This was his first shift flying the ship, and positive reinforcement was always a good thing. She then turned her neck to look at Niles in the tactical position. "Forward the coordinates, Lieutenant, and acknowledge the Talorians with a little 'thank-you'," she instructed. Courtesy was always important, and one could hope that, if they played their cards right, this encounter could be the start of something new. Next, she turned her attention to her First Officer. "Yes, let's do that," she agreed. "And I know I'm not supposed to go on Away missions, but I'll be going on this one. I think I can be helpful down there."Judy had spent the bulk of her career as a project manager, with decades of experience in infrastructure, and many more years (as well as a PhD) in the realm of terraforming. She had just the right background, and she was going to put it to use. "I can take the watch here on the bridge," Mabel volunteered, looking to Thea. Despite her youth, Mabel was certified for this duty, and had spent the past year in the corridors of command, learning from such varied role-models as Captains Eastman and Ellis, Commodore Perry, Dr. Baker, and Commander Harmon.

"That's definitely a lot of rainfall heading their way..." he murmured thoughtfully. Though it was difficult to say for certain without knowing exactly what was causing the floods, and how much rainfall each region was accustomed to experiencing. "Wouldn't hurt to advice them to issue an evacuation warning, just to be on the safe side." While they couldn't prevent a flood, or the ensuing damage to the infrastructure in the area, they could at least prevent further loss of life by providing an early warning. Moving back to his own station, he closed his kit, satisfied that he had everything that wasn't already packed in cargo crates prepared to beam down to the surface. For all the technological advancements of the century... some geological equipment was still simply too large to carry by hand.

[Bridge - Transporter Room One, USS Mac]
As soon as Judy acknowledged her recommendation and agreed with her. Thea smiled knowing that on this occasion, she wasn't about to argue with the Captain about staying on board. Besides Judy's engineering knowledge and expertise would certainly come in useful given the nature of the mission. " I'm not going to argue with that as we're going to need everyone for this" she said honestly as Mabel volunteered to take the watch.
" Then you have the watch Lieutenant, Captain I'll go ahead and start organising the teams. I'll see you down there in a few minutes".
Leaving the Bridge, Thea then tapped her comm badge as the lift began to move. =/\= Baker to Away Team Alpha, please make your way to transporter room one immediately. All other teams please make your way to your designated check in points and prepare to follow =/\=
Calls made, Thea then disembarked from the lift and entered the transporter room.

[ Elana - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City] It wasn't difficult to notice how the scientist's body language immediately changed, the moment that Elana had greeted her. Not to mention how she seemed to become distracted and look away from her, after returning Elana's greeting. Kaela wasn't the first person to act that way around her and sometimes Elana hated what she had become, wishing that they could see past her title and treat her like she was normal. However it wasn't that simple, especially as Elana suspected that Kaela would rather be somewhere else right now. Not that Elana blamed her, considering what had happened to her Father. Even though she wasn't directly involved with his murder, Elana could see why someone would think that she was and again hated her position and the evil that surrounded it. At the same time and with Kaela focusing on distracting herself. Elana spoke once more, after deciding on a different approach. " Please call me Elana, given the circumstances that we're now in and I won't keep you from your work. If you would like to tell me about it, I'll be over here awaiting our guests".Giving Kaela a choice was the right thing to do and hoped that she wouldn't see her as the enemy. With one final look and a friendly smile, Elana moved further onto the Arrivals pad to await the Mac's arrival. [ Elder Kohr'don - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City] [...] His staff sounded rhythmically with each step, announcing his presence. It wasn't required, but it was respected... as if nothing more than ceremonial. The young were still tolerant of the old ways. Perhaps this would be the generation to do away with it altogether. "I regret that brighter days haven't brought us together." [Kaela - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City]The young Talorian stiffened again when the Princess spoke. The request to call her by her given, birth name was ridiculous, and if the wrong person overheard her use it she could potentially lose her position. Neither had she any intention of following anywhere, and so she remained stone-silent as the strange female wandered off to stand elsewhere. Her body relaxed slightly at the impression of personal space. Kaela did not know the Princess personally. Thanks to the Federation, she'd received her late father's computer, along with all of his work and logs that he'd made during his stay on the Mac. For that she was grateful, even if she did not trust any of them. She was all too aware that had her father's effects remained in the hands of the Talorian retinue on board, she never would have seen them again. During his last few days he had made clear, informative logs of observations and theories, some of which included Elana. He presumed her flighty, empty-headed and only talking about matters of fashion and food. He had said that her saving grace was that she appeared much less dangerous than her predecessor, Orya, but Kaela would hold her own counsel, and so far she had very little evidence either way. Her relaxed stance did not last. The sound of Elder Kohr'don's staff was like the drum of a death march descending upon their small clearing. She inclined her head respectfully when he acknowledged her presence, then returned her gaze to the sky while he engaged in useless pleasantries. The clouds above their heads were a worrying dark grey, and close, giving the impression that they were heavy with precipitation. And then a very familiar shape came flying into view, outlined in the distance by the stormy heavens. Primary L'Sho's personal transport approached.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ]"Aye, Captain," Niles simply replied. With a single keystroke, routing and orbit specifications were sent to the Helm, and Ops received the beam-down instructions as provided to them by Talorian traffic control. However, the second part of the order he'd received from the Old Lady, that was something he was less certain about. But, in the end, he settled for the most military correct form of expressing gratitude for the speedy welcome and transmittal of their directives. He knew it should not be personal, that this was just the conduct expected from a Starfleet vessel towards a sovereign, independent polity, but there was still a foul taste in the Lieutenant's mouth from the last two interactions with the Talorians. However, the nature of duty, just like he had refrained from requesting to recuse himself from this particular mission, was that once it was accepted, it had to be carried out. However, he had thought to speak out when the Captain offered to beam down as well, but when Commander Baker supported it, he knew it would be an uphill battle at best, even if his better judgement said different. Without knowing more about what axes might be getting ground dirtside, he certainly was not comfortable with the ship's entire command element being down there. However, he had found himself hoping for a lost moment reprieve, that he would not be on the away mission after all, when Mabel volunteered to hold the watch for the time being. Not that she wasn't qualified, for he was well-acquainted with the roster of those officers qualified to hold the watch. But he was uncertain as to whether she was the right person to be in that seat while the Captain was dirtside. Though, frankly, he wasn't entirely sure he would be the best choice either, especially given his feelings for the Talorians; and, there was of course the minor matter of leaving the officer who'd actually fired upon their princess in the Mac's first encounter with their people in command of the ship, which wouldn't surprise him at all if it had been part of Captain Eastman and Commander Baker's planning process. But, it was above his pay grade, so to speak, and when the word came through his commbadge to make ready to beam down, he beckoned Ensign Lynch from Tactical Two, and passed on his board yet again, before making his way off the Bridge. As per regulations, he drew a hand phaser from the armoury, and he grabbed himself a tricorder, for it was simply too useful a device not to carry one on most away missions, and he resolutely, if not exactly happily, made his way to the transporter room.

Elana couldn't help but feel as though her position had created a gaping chasm of hate, fear and envy between her and the people. Perhaps she had been delusional in thinking that she could still be normal and break free from her sister's shadow. Whilst she wasn't power hungry or wanting to return to the old ways. Elana was simply out of her depth and still needed to prove herself. Change was needed just like the ominous grey clouds that hovered above them. A chill running through her spine as she looked up, before the familiar sound of an Elder's staff was heard, rousing her from her thoughts. Turning with a polite smile as Elder Kohr'don greeted her and Kaela. Of course she had heard the rumours surrounding him and her late Sister. However decided not to dwell on them as she was taught never to doubt their religious leaders. " Greetings Elder Kohr'don and yes it is most regrettable. Although I am glad that you are here" she said respectfully as the noise of a transport, signalled the arrival of L'Sho.

It was fastened to the strap of her harness on the left side, as she'd seen Starfleet officers wear it. She gave each of her pouches one last quick tug to make sure everything was secure and broke into a trot to cover the remaining distance to the transporter room, slowing as the doors swooshed open before her. Despite her best efforts, Left Ear was the first one there, so she nodded to the transporter officer and stood quietly to the side to wait, idly wondering if the officer had to stand there all day even if there weren't any transports planned. ---------- Soft tags as people enter

Miren made suggestion based on the limited evidence they had. "I agree completely," said Isaiah, hoping that they would take advantage of the advanced warning. "Of course, much of their technology is comparable to our own. They should be able to detect this much on their own. The people on my planet were able to forecast meteorological events such as this by the latter end of the twentieth century." Of course none of this spoke to the actual cause of these events. "Go ahead and send an advanced communique. We'll remind the welcoming committee of our recommendation upon our arrival," said Isaiah. He made a few notes on his own padd and then glanced at the chronometer. "Let's continue this on our way to the transporter room. There are still a few more points I'd like to go over, and I'd hate to be late." Isaiah waited for Cerjess to complete the necessary tasks before he went on reviewing some of the information they had been sent by the Talorians.

[ Elder Kohr'don - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City] Kohr'don nodded at Elena's greeting. The mere sight of her face alone roused memories of her sister. So alike in appearance, yet so different within. Undoubtedly yet another torment he was forced to endure for the remainder of his days, however short they may be. "I doubt I have much to offer, but I remain at your disposal your highness in whatever capacity I can." He knew it was wise to remain cordial. If only to for the opportunity to remain in the loop on the demise of their world, both physically and ideally. His eyes then moved to Kaela once again. "Kaelpra always served his home with honor," Kohr'don remarked. "His Do'Jamme may not have been traditional, but his light will shine just as brightly when he greets you in the Underworld." The man was damned and so was the rest of his line. The best the girl could hope for at this point was to join well and pray for mercy upon her soul. The sound of L'Sho's transport made its announcement, and the elder took a deep breath. Even now, after surrendering their world to the Federation, their so-called great protector elected to appear with a show of force. The future of Talor Prime seemed more bleak than the clouds above.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Bridge -> Transporter Room 1]With a wave, Judy exited the bridge to make a quick stop in her ready room. She had to be properly prepared to go planetside, after all. Upon entering the transporter room, the Captain was clearly ready for action. She'd traded her handbag for a regulation backpack, and pulled her hair up into a low bun. She had a phaser and a tricorder pinned on the waist of her pants (just in case), and a regulation overcoat draped over her forearm. "Let's get going," she exclaimed, as she put the coat on.

{Quoted Posts} [Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - USS Mac - Science Lab]Hearing the Commander's question, Cerjess turned and walked back over, looking over the other man's shoulder at the screen he pointed at. [Kaela - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City]The young Talorian stiffened again when the Princess spoke. [ Elana - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City] Whilst there had been a slight glimmer at hope that Kaela would take her up on her offer. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Science Labs, USS Mac ] Quinn nodded as Lt.
Tag: Syl O'Connell (Cerjess) [Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - USS Mac - Science Lab]"Yessir," the Lieutenant replied, moving back to his console and quickly sent the warning to their Talorian contact. Even if they had the technology to track the storm movement, there was no telling they were currently able to use it after how much damage had been done to their planet. And he'd personally rather risk offending someone by telling them what they already knew, than risk losing more lives that could have been saved. Once that was sent, he grabbed his kit and slung it over his shoulder, glancing around one more time to make sure he hadn't missed anything, then nodded to let Isaiah know he was ready to go. The two scientists were still talking as they entered the transporter room, thus Cerjess didn't immediately notice whom else was already there, but moved to join the team on the pad while finishing his sentence. " - concern is tectonic activity. We might be able to stabilize som..." his voice trailed off when he noticed a person-sized cat. And the Captain. "Ma'am." He greeted the latter with a nod, a slight blush crossing his cheeks as he cleared his throat and fell silent, facing the front of the room.

[Transporter Room One - USS Mac] Having being momentarily interrupted to accept the standard issue jackets for their trip to the surface. Thea then entered the transporter too find Left Ear already present. Acknowledging the Healer as the others began to arrive including the Captain. Once everyone was ready and Judy gave the direction to get going. Thea took her place on the pad, offering Isaiah a smile as Cerjess continued their conversation before realising who he was stood next too. " Chief, beam us down to the coordinates that were sent to you, then send the jackets down after us" she instructed, deciding that it would be easier that way. The Transporter Chief soon acknowledged the request and seconds later the room began to change around them.
When the crew materialised on the arrivals pad, the heavens opened as if they had been waiting for them to arrive. Some may call it coincidence, however it was a reminder of why they were here.

Litt Ozu Saya[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Mac --> Arrivals - Talor City] Left Ear nodded to the Starfleet people as they arrived and stepped up onto the transporter pad, feeling a little out of place amongst all the uniforms. She eyed the jackets, not sure they'd fit the shape of her shoulders. The Sivaoan was fascinated by the experience of going through the transporter every time she did it. It was tingly. And then they fully materialized on the planet's surface. Left Ear had less than half a second to note the overcast skies before they proceeded to dump bucketloads of water on them. She gasped as the chill water hit and instantly soaked her to the skin, plastering the fur to her body. Sivaoans' fur had some water protection, but it was meant for light rain or mist. This downpour quickly overcame any resistance. ---------- Soft tags
