[LCDR Tony Sleebaggo - Arkath Island]
Sleebaggo looked disapprovingly at Charlene as she attempted to insult him. He was able to be the bigger man, take the high road, of course. Her insolence wasn't deserving of more of a response. The insubordinate and insufferable Lieutenant Niles, on the other hand, was indeed deserving of a response for his repeated transgressions. "It is not a matter of talent Leftenant," he scowled, "It is a matter of operational security. Perhaps she has no great love of Starfleet, I would hypothesise that you share that dislike of Starfleet. Why else would you be so consistently insubordinate and intractable?!" his tone was now rising and becoming more enraged, "One can only presume you are eager to be drummed out of Starfleet, or at best have your career stall as a result of such errant behaviour. You are not a senior officer. You are not God's greatest gift to this galaxy. You are not, in fact, it seems, even a particularly skilled investigator. You are an arrogant arriviste of an officer. You're haplessly naïve, despite having long since left the Academy. Perhaps your superiors have thus far been too pliant and soft to lay their foot down, but you shall not find that from me, boy. Pull your head in. Shut up, and let the grownups talk." With that out of the way, he turned away from Niles and back towards the Minister, his mood swung suddenly to back to the usual polite, posh, professional tone, almost like there had been a switch within him suddenly flicked. "There were at least two people sent to retrieve Du Toollamé. They went towards the water and it appears likely left with the aid of some sort of transport. Traffic logs for the area, or any scans of the surroundings would be helpful. It is possible they were detected. Certainly it is apparent that he had some help. This was not merely an accident but a planned and coordinated breakout," he explained.
[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Somewhere in the Mountains] Between Chloe, Taggart, and Velal, there was something of a good cop bad cop routine going on that seemed to be working. The Cardassian was starting to seem more cooperative. "If you tell us what we need to know then you have a deal," she said confidently, even though Taggart was there. She figured he'd had her take point initially, and the good cop bad cop was working. "You'll have to do better than just the make and model."

[Lt. Cmdr Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkarian Mountains] "You're right, it's a start. Keep going." Taggert replied firmly. They could put the Cardassian in a suite as requested, under guard of course. But whether or not he was free to go in the morning would depend on his level of involvement, and just how much assistance he provided their investigation. Jovireh took a step back, but remained focused on the suspect who was thankfully starting to talk. She remained silent for now, listening to the different tactics used by the Commander and Lieutenant, deciding this was the perfect opportunity to learn rather than try to prove herself in a field she didn't have much experience in.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Akrath Island prison ]Once he was certain his readings were being analyzed up on the ship, Niles made his way back towards the recreation yard, shaking his head. Seriously, what kind of a man would deliberately investigate anything without so much as a tricorder and just rely on the eyeballs issued to him at birth when there were so many traces that would be beyond the scope of such sensors? Well, at least the Lieutenant had the sense to double-check on the putative Intelligence Officer's work... and had he not taken proper readings, there was no telling what leads and evidence were missed. And when he had returned, it was just in time to hear the man talk down to Charlie Fox and his apologies for any aspersions cast against the minister's person. Even given Joshua's general lack of interest in investigative matters and the fact he was currently relying on a month of remedial training to be able to perform those tasks, he knew he'd be hard-pressed to count all of Sleebaggos' failings in this matter. And of course he had not missed Charlie's tart response, which drew a twitch of the Lieutenant's lips... which was begging to actually turn into a grin. As a civilian, she could actually tell him off in no uncertain terms. As a fellow officer and a subordinate, Niles had a degree of constraints to deal with to express any concerns with a superior's capabilities... Which meant he bit off a sharp question to the Lieutenant-Commander before it could be given voice, and instead looked to the journalist as she was addressing Mabel. "Commander, Miss Fox may not be Starfleet and may lack the technical bend to perform the sort of scan she is asking Lieutenant Henriksen to perform or interpret its results, but she is a talented investigator in her own right, with a way to get at the facts. She also has no great love for Starfleet, so if she is asking for our support, especially towards assisting in our investigation as per the Captain's request, there is bound to be a very good reason behind it."It had taken considerable effort and self-restraint on the Lieutenant's part to keep his tone neutral and to simply provide information, and hopefully the kind of prodding that would make Sleebaggo think that going on with Charlie's notion would be the Int O's idea rather than hers or the Tac officer's. And it had taken even more effort to not just simply call out the man for the incompetent, pompous ass that he was, more worried about uncomfortable lines of questioning that might make it so he wouldn't be able to befriend local government ministers than actually doing the job and catching Toollame, and indirectly finding out precisely how he had escaped and finding those responsible. However, the Old Lady's cautions against his lashing out still echoed in his ears and he had to behave himself... "Charlie, at the risk of asking you to repeat yourself, what prompted you to request that scan?" Something was telling him she hadn't shared that tidbit just yet. [NPCs - Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen & Minister Palkor - Akrath Island]"Right away," Mabel answered Charlie, and then stopped when she heard Palkor clear his throat. The minister couldn't help but conclude that no one here was in charge. Apparently, Eastman had been here, but was now occupied. The Captain had not struck the Minister as the type to shirk her duty, so he assumed there was a reason for this. "Run the scan," he ordered. "Until your Captain comes back, you all answer to me."In the stress of this horrible day, perhaps claiming ownership over this group of fleeters would do something for Palkor's confidence and steadiness. "Commander, you seem bright; what have you found?"Mabel scanned the building, and found the results. "This wall is in bad shape. The steel is corroded, the concrete is showing signs of unhealthy swelling[fn]This is the alkali-silica reaction, also called the Concrete Cancer, a serious problem for concrete structures[/fn], and the whole reinforcing frame has a gap," she reported, quietly, to Charlie. [Charlie Fox - Outside the cells, Akrath Island]Charlie wasn't as surprised about Josh coming to her defense as she was about the actual words he used to defend her. She didn't require defending; Sleebaggo's opinion of her would not impact on her work in any way, but it was nice to know that someone had her back, all the same. Her smile was small, but noticeable, when she nodded at the Sec/Tac Officer. "There is," she confirmed, after he suggested that there'd likely be a good reason for her request. When he asked for clarification, she provided. "The serial killer next door to Du Toollamé made it clear that this cell in particular is known to have weak walls. It seemed common knowledge, and I believe that's why it was empty before -"Sleebaggo was winding up for an epic rant at Josh, cutting off their exchange. The flick of her wrist was subtle, but Olsen dutifully caught it, as he usually did. The drone spun around, and focused on the direction she indicated: right toward the Intelligence Chief. What followed was probably the single most unprofessional display she'd ever seen from someone in uniform, and that was saying a lot. By the time he was finished, she found she wasn't seething, which was strange considering how horrible he'd been, rather she was completely bemused. Judging by this man's outburst alone, he was wholly unfit not just to run a department, but to serve. To think, this was what happened when Matthew was sent away. "Smile." She smiled herself as she narrowed her eyes at Lieutenant Commander Tony Sleebaggo, and pointed her index finger upward toward her holorecorder. "You're on camera." She pulled out her PADD and with only a few strokes, sent the epic rant, in its entirety, to Captain Eastman. Her gaze then flickered toward Josh, wondering how he'd respond, but she resisted the urge to advise him not to. Instead she felt she was better served by returning her attention to the investigation. "Thanks, Mabel," Charlie said as she turned her back on the Sleebaggo and Palkor, not at all surprised to find out that the intel Kalda had provided proved to be accurate. In a loud voice she asked, "Where's Matthew?"

[ CPO Kaya Som | Systems and Sensors, Level 6, Spaceport HQ ]The attraction between Kel and Kaya was mutual. Kaya currently found herself unnattached at the moment and here on far away from Arkaria, this flirtation was uncomplicated. Kaya sat comfortably in the long pauses and could have easily forgotten the urgency of the mission here so far away from the action. "The best hacks are quiet," she replied. It was good to have something to bring back to Quinn, that something could have gotten past the Arkarians without being detected. Whether or not it actually had done, well, that was the next step. Then, to the question of leaving Starfleet. "That question keeps coming up. Maybe the elders are trying to tell me something," she said with a click of her tongue. Kel's comm relayed an apparently unwelcome message. "Sometimes," she said honestly. She might have said more, but her own comm had something to say. :comm: "Quinn to Som and Rin. Let's reconvene at your earliest convenience. I'm in Briefing Room #2. Quinn out.":comm: "Well, that's me," she said with a rueful smile. "If I don't see you again, thanks for the help, Kel Kallis." Kaya offered her hand. [ CPO Kaya Som | Briefing Room #2, Control Center, Spaceport HQ ]Presently, Kaya arrived to meet Lieutenant Quinn in a room just off of the control center. She strode in, hands in pockets, ready with a report. "We've got a possible backdoor through the sensor grid," she said. "Enough for a transporter. Kel says they get intermittant gaps, bugs in the system from, eh, lack of leadership prioritization of routine maintenance..." She said with obvious, meaningful diplomacy. "Someone could in theory, beam something down if they knew about the gaps and were quick about it. It wouldn't be detectable." Isaiah Quinn Rin Zakir

In a loud voice she asked, "Where's Matthew?" [ LT Joshua Niles - Akrath Island prison ]One thing Niles was not entirely pleased with, was the Minister deciding to issue orders. For one thing, anyone who had graduated any kind of Starfleet basic training, let it be for enlisted recruits or Officer Candidates School ahead of their time at the Academy would know that civilians, even ministers on Federation worlds, were outside of the chain of command and had no lawful authority to issue orders to Starfleet personnel. And while Lieutenant Henrikesn did run the scan, Niles had the clear notion that it was because she had been asked by Charlie, and not because the minister had decided to start issuing orders. But, the information that came through about the structural issues of that particular cell, immediately followed by what Charlie had to say about her reasons, set off a number of red flags in the Security officer's mind... even as Sleebaggo decided to tear into him with a vengeance. Weathering the verbal assault, Niles' eyes narrowed as his jaw set, and his fists closed at his sides; on his good hand, he could feel the pain of his fingernails digging into his palm; his artificial one, though, wouldn't so much as bear a blemish from the tightness of his fist. And it was only the warnings about his temper from the Old Lady that stopped him from immediately lashing out at the Intelligence Officer. Instead, he let the man finish, before he finally spoke up, his tone even as he managed to bottle up the rage that was welling in his gut. For one thing, tearing a strip out of anyone, let alone a commissioned officer, in public like this was simply not done. However, for now he just had to let that go. And later on, he would file a grievance against the Lieutenant-Commander, if only for his most egregious violation of the most basic service courtesies, his preference for optics over substance and that bloody arrogance he was using to shield the fact that he couldn't even have been bothered to grab a damn tricorder when they had become available. But despite deciding to shelve the matter of that attack against his professionalism and person, there was something that had to be said, and given the number of witnesses, and no doubt Mabel Henriksen and Charlie Fox being entirely ready to relay the course of events to the Captain, Josh had every reason to believe that there would be no way to twist his words against him when he started to deliver his position in a calm, even voice, careful to maintain an air of cool professionalism. "Commander, I must advise you on the record that Miss Fox has all of the requisite clearances to be fully embedded as a journalist within Mac's company. Furthermore and still on the record, that in my judgement as a Security Officer there is sufficient circumstantial evidence between testimony obtained by Miss Fox and the irregularities of the disposition of du Toollame within this facility to reasonably believe that there has been assistance in his escape from within the Arkarian government. Therefore in the name of operational security and maintaining the integrity of this investigation, that until such a time as exculpatory evidence clearing specific individuals can be obtained or solid proof towards the actual culprits can be obtained, I am formally advising for the record that no further information or status update with regards to our investigation should be shared outside of the investigative team. Of course, Sir, it is your prerogative as a higher-ranking officer to order me to release what I have ascertained thus far, but I will have to insist on receiving such orders in writing and acknowledging that this course of action runs contrary to my advice and official Starfleet investigative practices."If Sleebaggo wanted to speak of Fleet standards and use them as a weapon to further his agenda, well, one Joshua Niles had the best of teachers when it came to the importance of abiding by procedures and regulations and documenting everything in the form of the Old Lady; and he was not above making ample use of those lessons, and of his own rights and prerogatives as an officer, even the antiquated right to request orders in writing, in order to do his job. And one thing for certain, even on such a short acquaintance, he knew he detested Sleebaggo on a personal level; of course, he would follow the lawful orders of any officer appointed above him for such was his duty, but he would be damned if he would ever refer to the likes of that windbag as a superior officer.

Mabel Henriksen & Minister Palkor - Akrath Island]As he watched the two men get deeper and deeper into a barfing contest[fn]Arkarians can retch on cue, making puke contests a thing in their society.[/fn], Palkor couldn't help but wonder whether his faith in Starfleet was misplaced. While he was at a loss for words, Mabel answered Charlie's rhetorical question with all earnestness. "Chloe says he's out sailing,[fn]OOC: Matt's activities were discussed with his writer earlier.[/fn]" she said. At this point, Judy came back, having overheard far too much for either Sleebaggo or Niles's career prospects. Palkor, clearly displeased, turned away from Sleebaggo, towards her. "Captain, I thought you had your best people on this.""They're running down other leads," she said, without skipping a beat. Then, the Captain focused on the two officers, aware that she was on camera. "Gentlemen, I don't know what you think your job entails, but this ain't it. If you spent a tenth of your energy on this case, instead of arguing with each other, we'd have Du Toollamé back in a cell already. In fact, it seems Ms. Fox has been a better officer than both of you combined," she admonished in a near-whisper. "We'll deal with consequences later - and there will be consequences for your behavior, but from now on, you both answer to Mabel, and through her, me; got it?"Mabel addressed Charlie again. "Can you stay with us?" she asked.

{Spoiler} [ Ensign Rin Zakir - Control Center, Spaceport HQ] Despite his quirky sense of humour while off duty, Zak could be very mature and professional, when he chose so. Now was one of those times, as he was alone and dealing with someone outside of Starfleet, with whom they needed to build a rapport. So far, everything seemed to be well in that department, not to mention that the systems in place seemed to be more than adequate. Still, he was no easily impressed at everything he saw cadet, so everything needed to be viewed with a little scrutiny. Nodding in gratitude as he was allowed to stay and continue to observe the proceedings, he made sure to stand far enough back so that he would not be underfoot, but close enough so that he could see the majority of the monitors. It wasn't anything that showed on those that got the proverbial yellow alert going, as the comms device that Trax was carrying sounded and he quickly excused himself. While it was most likely nothing to worry about, he managed to overhear a bit of the conversation while pretending that all his attention was on everything but. pen a brief window in three hours? Window for what? He didn't much like the sound of that, and he would be reporting it to Quinn, but for now the security manager returned to answer his earlier question. "Everything alright?", he asked, though his face betrayed no sign that he had heard anything but the day to day operations around him. They did not get far into their conversation, when their attention was drawn by a worker calling Trax over. It seemed that there was a boarded search about to be under way, and he was invited to watch alongside them. "Thanks, I'd be glad to", he responded, just before the call came from Quinn to rendezvous with him and Som 'at his earliest convenience'. He sighed, glancing apologetically at the other before answering. "This is Rin, acknowledged, I'll be with you shortly", he responded with a tap on his own commbadge. He would like to witness at least some of this feed before reporting back, not only to satisfy his own curiosity, but he'd hopefully have a a little more to report back. It wouldn't be detectable." [ Security Manager Tullin Trax - Control Center, Spaceport HQ] Tullin simply smiled and nodded at the ensign as he answered his question. "I simply to be in high demand today is all," he answered. "Considering everything that's going ono it doesn't surprise me." He could hear the security officer's commander summon him, but the young Bajoran seemed inclined to watch a bit of the live feed first. "Continue live stream."Upon the feed screens, a Ktarian captain could be seen approaching the Arkarian officers. There was an exchange of a data pad, which on one screen could be seen as both the crew and cargo manifests. Scans seemed to verify that the bio-signatures matched the crew manifest. However, the same couldn't be said for the cargo. Trax's eyes scanned the shared feed and his eyes narrowed. "The ship's mass is 5.3% below it's expected mass. Have the search teams commence a level two search of the cargo hold. Find out what's missing."He looked over at Ensign Rin. "It may take a while to complete the search," Trax began, " "but I'll certainly make the results available to you and your commander." Trax wasn't sure if Rin had seen enough, or if he planned to remain for the rest the search.
[ Kel Kallis - Level 6 (Sensors & Systems), Spaceport HQ] Kel Kallis could have spent the entire day observing how the mind of Kaya Som worked. Though, it seemed that fate was conspiring to to remove such a welcome and tantalizing distraction from both ends. No sooner had she received her message that Kaya was summoned by her commander. "Perhaps listening to your elders wouldn't be such a bad thing," Kel suggested with a smile. Though as it became obvious that it was time for the Trill to go, Kell nodded slowly. "You're welcome," Kel said as she reached out and gently took hold of Kaya's hand. "I'll definitely keep an eye out for you, Kaya Som."
[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Briefing Room #2, Control Center, Spaceport HQ]
Isaiah didn't have to wait long before he was eventually joined by the Trill engineer. Naturally, Kaya didn't disappoint as she reported what she had discovered from Kel. "I see," Isaiah said rubbing his chin. "The impression Director Ke gave me was that their network was anything but flawed." From Isaiah's tone, it was obvious he hadn't believed Ke, but this certainly verified his suspicions. What also was of note was the mention that missed maintenance was due to prioritization of the leadership (or lack thereof.) "I'm not surprised that Ke had other priorities," Isaiah said. "He has seemed rather insistent about keeping traffic flowing to meet the expectation of many of the merchants on this planet. Isaiah sighed. "I hate to think ill of anyone without evidence, but it wouldn't surprise me if he had some financial incentives to make certain that traffic remained at optimal levels."

[NPC - Gul Councillor-Elect Guillaume Marie-Étienne François Henri-Pierre Thierry du Toollamé - Submarine, Southern Ocean, Arkaria]Gul Du Toollame paced the deck of the submarine-shuttle, his hands free of shackles, himself clad in his military uniform again, but still not feeling at home. The multi-species crew were not his people, and in some way, their human hostage, currently tied to a chair with old-timey ropes, felt more like a peer. "Care for some refreshments, Matthieu?" the French-Cardassian offered the human. "I'll order them to untie your hands."Du Toollamé helped himself to one of the sandwiches on offer, which paired quite nicely with his red wine.

[LCDR Tony Sleebaggo - Arkath Island]
Sleebaggo snarled at Charlene when she revealed he was being illegally filmed. "That is not legal!" he protested, as his mind immediately went to thinking of how to have that camera-bot destroyed. Niles continued to totally misunderstand the situation. They were there at the invitation and behest of the Arkanian government. They were invited to assist with the investigation, they did not have the jurisdictional standing to cut out the Arkanian government regardless of what they might have found. But the pompous prick was once again showing his inexperience. Not to mention the utter stupidity of accusing the government of being complicit in front of one of their senior relevant ministers. The utter cheek of demanding Sleebaggo, on no sufficient grounds, to issue his orders in writing was totally preposterous. It was a miracle this man managed to graduate the academy, let along get two pips. The worst thing was that as was clearly to be expected, the Minister had overheard Niles' accusation and was now doubting the investigative team. His diplomatic faux pas could well get Starfleet cut out of the investigation entirely in retribution for such unsubstantiated allegations.
The Captain then returned, preventing Sleebaggo from responding and admonished the two of them. Presumably she was lacking the context of what had caused the exchange between the two officers. Unfortunately, she decided to put Sleebaggo under her clerk. He stared daggers at Mabel awaiting some form of suggestion.
[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Somewhere in the Mountains]"Why two Y-4s? And where will they be going next?" Chloe asked as the Cardassian began to fill in some more of the gaps. The decoy revelation made a lot of sense, but unfortunately meant that he was unlikely to be reliable, or at least unlikely to answer the most important questions. She was also keen to uncover what the Caldonian's were up to, but that was a much less urgent question at this point. "Well then, if you want to drop the act, we can drop the act," she said, suddenly changing tracks. "By admitting you are a decoy, you have now confessed to being part of a very serious conspiracy, not merely being a trespasser. That makes our current deal untenable, unless you lead us to Du Toollamé, I don't see how we can convince a prosecutor to let you go if we simply allow you to be a decoy and divert us."

[Matthew Harmon - Submarine, Somewhere]Harmon had reluctantly agreed with the suggestion to catch a lift to Arkania with the Mac to relax and have some time away while he was suspended. He wasn't sure yet if he would be allowed to return to Starfleet, and even less sure about returning to his position. It was funny, not that long ago he would have taken any excuse to get out of his posting at Front Ear, but now he found himself wanting to stay. He'd started to build...something there. He'd finally made a friend or two. Or at least he had. It seemed he'd well and truly screwed things up with Charlie. Perhaps he should have handled the return differently, but if he could do it again, he wasn't sure he would do it much differently. It was the right thing to do. Still, he'd hurt Charlie. And the others, and for that he was deeply regretful. He'd decided he'd use his time off on Arkania to do some sailing. It had been a while, but he always enjoyed it, and it was at least an activity he could do alone, and sober. Not that he was spending much of the time sober lately. He did not expect however, to be suddenly abducted. On his holiday no less. Very rude. "Got any more of that wine? Interrupting my holiday, the least you could do is spare me from being too sober," he said in a totally blasé tone despite his predicament. He didn't really care what happened to him at this point. There wasn't anything they could do that scared him. What did he have to lose? Nothing anymore.

{Quotes} [ LT Joshua Niles - Akrath Island prison ][...] "Commander, I must advise you on the record that Miss Fox has all of the requisite clearances to be fully embedded as a journalist within Mac's company. Of course, Sir, it is your prerogative as a higher-ranking officer to order me to release what I have ascertained thus far, but I will have to insist on receiving such orders in writing and acknowledging that this course of action runs contrary to my advice and official Starfleet investigative practices."[...] [Capt. Unfortunately, she decided to put Sleebaggo under her clerk. He stared daggers at Mabel awaiting some form of suggestion. [Charlie Fox - Outside the cells, Akrath Island]This was such a mess. A colossal mess of ego and challenge. Charlie glanced over at the Minister, who looked... Well he looked similar to how she felt, if she was honest. She couldn't blame him for the barb he shot at Eastman, either. When the sputtering Chief turned on her and accused her of doing something illegal, she almost laughed. Not only was recording such an epic grey area, but she was also on another planet, subject to their law, and working within a Federation team, as a civilian. It didn't get any more convoluted than that, and had she been chilling somewhere, with a beer in the company of some good friends, she might have attempted to untangle it, but she wasn't. "I don't care," she told him instead, raising one shoulder in a shrug of ultimate nonchalance. She could not help but overhear the exchange between Eastman and her two officers. She was standing close enough, and, well, she was a super nosy person by nature. But when she pointed out that she - Charlie Fox of all people, had been a better officer than them, she all but choked. Her eyes slid to the side, toward Mabel, as she took a moment to consider what the Captain was saying. "Is that an insult to me, or to them?" Charlie asked Mabel in a lowered voice. Then, unable to help herself, she snorted out a laugh. How bizarre this whole experience was; perhaps they'd slipped into some sort of parallel universe without them noticing. Her gaze softened, though only the slightest bit, when the Captain's creature asked if she would stay. "I will," she said with a nod. She wouldn't leave anyone to deal with all of this extra testosterone alone, that would just be cruel. Besides, they had an escaped prisoner on the loose, and a mystery to solve. Though speaking of mysteries... sailing?

[ LT Joshua Niles - Akrath Island prison ]Well, if Sleebaggo was not going to accept an open, collaborative way of approaching the problem, Niles had been left with but one choice and that had been to slap the man with his own love of regulations and of the chain of command. It was not the most positive way to do things, but when the man was willingly blind to an entire avenue of investigation out of fear of offending local potentates and probably how it would reflect on his ability to hobnob with them, that was the one tool left in his inventory to deal with him. But, apparently, it wasn't good enough, for the Captain made herself heard. And instantly, Niles' eyes flashed with a series of emotions. Shame, anger, burning rage, even hate. But so very little of that was directed outwards; once more, he'd managed to screw up royally and once more he could feel the Old Lady's disappointment bearing down on him like a torpedo launched from orbit. Once more he'd been tested, and once more he had failed to measure up. With the mention of consequences, he could feel that his place on the officer of the watch roster would be erased before the day was out, that if he was lucky he might retain his position with regards to the tactical sections... and that it would be a long, long time before the Captain would ever regard him with any sort of esteem after all. That was the part that stung the most. And while he was fully expecting to be told to return to the ship, or return to his leave, he instead found himself ordered to answer to Mabel of all people. Well, he may outrank her, but it wasn't the first time he was under the charge of someone whose rank was subordinate, at least on paper. But then again, it still meant he had a chance to make some of this right and... His tricorder buzzed and he flipped the device open, only to close it soon after. Once again, hard evidence had come up blank, and he walked towards Mabel, to keep the information from the local dignitaries as much as possible. Unless ordered otherwise, he was going to stick to his judgement. "I went over the trail and found evidence of small craft, thruster wash, and unidentified transporter activity. The ship's computers went over the raw data, and there is much that matches the timeframe of the escape, but there is nothing conclusive. Nothing to indicate number or type, whether it was a beam-in or beam-out, or whether it was equipment or personnel. Physical evidence is going nowhere."There could be no hiding the disgust and frustration in the Lieutenant's voice. Once again, he was set to a task that went absolutely nowhere, when his expertise might have been better used elsewhere, where he actually had the kind of knowledge that actually could make a real difference. But no, he had to volunteer himself again, to try and regain the Captain's good opinion of him which he valued, and instead wound up falling flat on his face yet again. Though, there was still a chance to pick himself back up. "The only lead I can still see, thanks to Charlie, is looking into any possible insider involvement, and I'm not even sure where to start on this, but I think we need to track down the lowest-level member of prison staff involved with placing Toollame in that particular cell, maybe the block supervisor, then work our way up the chain until we hit a brick wall, or someone sings."

[Lt. Cmdr Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkarian Mountains] At first, Taggert merely grunted. The fact this man was the 'designated decoy' was far less surprising than the fact he blatantly admitted it. Lt. Hudson was right - they now had the confession they needed to arrest him. "PO, take him into custody. Search him thoroughly. We don't need him slipping out of our grasp before we're ready to let him go." They'd lost precious time, but at least they had something to work with. Hopefully the information provided wasn't also a decoy to send them chasing shadows. He stepped away and tapped his com badge. =A="Taggert to Captain Eastman. We've taken a Cardassian into custody as an accomplice and possible informant. We're looking for two Y-4s, I'll send the details to your PADD. If the Arkarians can spare any resources to assist with the search, it'd be very helpful."=A=Velal nodded at the order, and holstered her phaser, trusting Chloe to have her back if the man tried to pull anything. Stepping up to him, she cuffed his wrists behind his back and began to pat him down. "What's your name?" she asked, keeping her tone neutral, but keeping her gaze on his face as he replied. It was an excuse to make him talk so she'd be able to see if he had anything concealed in his mouth. With how forthcoming he'd been, she wouldn't be surprised if he either swallowed poison or had a lock pick embedded in his gums.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler} [ Ensign Rin Zakir - Briefing Room #2, Spaceport HQ] Zak entered not to far behind Som, the trill having already begun her report. So there was a possible gap in the sensor grid? That wasn't good, and a very different story to what he had discovered in the command center. It definitely seemed as though there was lot more focus on the room he had been exploring, when it came to funding and state of the art technology. "That's not the story I got from Mr. Trax. From what I saw in the command center, they've got things here locked up tighter than a misers purse!", he spoke as the chief finished her assessment. "I did overhear a communication to our friend in security, something about arranging a window in three hours?" he added. "Not to accuse anyone of potential wrongdoing, just thought it was worth mentioning." If requested, he would offer a more comprehensive report of what he had witnessed, from the schematics he had viewed to the ongoing search, but for now he would let the lieutenant commander ruminate on what he had. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Briefing Room #2, Control Center, Spaceport HQ]
Isaiah listened as Zak made his report, shortly after Kaya had. He had to admit, in many ways it was a reoccurring theme of pristine presence followed by fallible form. "Well, one conclusion we can draw is that we can't take everything we're being told at face value," Quinn stated. "And the mention of arranging a window in three hours... seems rather odd to make such a presence given everything that's going on. I'll let the Captain know what we've found out so far."
Quinn was about to press his comm badge, but paused as he looked at the younger officers. "One other thing. How credible do you believe your sources to be?" The science officer gave them each a moment to think and answer, before he reached out and tapped his comm badge. =A= "Quinn to Eastman. Captain, I'm sending you our team's findings thus far here at the Spaceport."=A=
