[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Somewhere in the Mountains]
Chloe took a long while to respond to the Cardassian. This was a very strange situation. He was armed, yet clearly showed no intention of resisting. Not even a façade. Didn't even take the chance to examine his situation before surrendering. The technology too from what she could see was an odd mix of various origins. Nothing here made sense. It was clearly not covert, there was no effort to obscure whatever was going on, yet he also didn't seem to be up to much. It was almost like he was just waiting. "You wanted to be found," she said eventually, her tone that of someone who had just finished piecing a puzzle together, more so than a confident statement. "You were expecting us, weren't you?" she asked. But why?
[LCDR Tony Sleebaggo - Arkath Island]
Sleebaggo squinted his eyes at the irritating and obnoxious young lieutenant who had decided to ask him a question in a rather patronising tone. "No," he said, his tone firm, "They merely lead towards the sea and then disappear. Presumably they got on some sort of boat or aircraft, or transported away. There's no way to know from the prints." Before the Captain could respond to Sleebaggo's unimportant findings, a task of little significance that she had decided to impart on him, she walked off, adding further insult to injury. They were then approached by three Arkarians, one of whom Sleebaggo recognised as the Minister of the Interior, Palkor. "Yes, Minister, we are Captain Eastmens people. My name is Lieutenant Commander Anthony Sleebaggo, Chief Intelligence Officer," he politely introduced himself, extending his hand outwards towards the man. "This is Lieutenant Niles. Tactical, and Lieutenant Henriksen, the Captain's assistant," he reported.

[Lt. Cmdr Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkarian Mountains] Taggert stayed back and stayed quiet, listening to his team question the Cardassian while looking around the area for any signs of this being a trap or ambush. He was glad both women had the sense to not immediately arrest him just because he surrendered. Oh the paperwork that would cause... Velal didn't react to the exchange between the Cardassian and Chloe, but a muscle in her jaw twitched when the man asked what he would get for talking. They didn't have the authority to offer any deals, nor did they know he had any information of real value to them. But if he was willing to talk, it was an avenue worth investigating. "If you have information relevant to the prison break that took place this morning, we'll tell the prosecutors you were compliant and helpful. What they do with that information, however, is up to them. They have been known to show leniency, so cooperation certainly won't make things any worse for you." Jovireh shifted her gaze between him and Lt. Hudson, hoping she didn't overstep any bounds, and also waiting for any further orders. She kept her attention on the suspicious man, though, regardless of where she was looking. Even disarmed, he was still a threat to them.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD, Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen & Minister Palkor - Akrath Island]Josh had come to an awfully direct conclusion, that because their scans hadn't found the signature of a known manufacturer, that meant there was no such manufacturer involved. It was sloppy, and yet for now, Judy didn't address it head-on. She was about to turn her attention to Sleebaggo, but then, she got a ping on her PADD. "Gentlemen, I have to take a brief call. If you need anything, send Mabel my way," she instructed, and walked away. Only moments later, a group of three Arkarians approached, two bodyguards and one senior politician. "Are you Eastman's people?" minister Palkor, the minister of the Interior, asked. Mabel, meanwhile, got the report that there were no Nausicaan prisoners here, but figured this guy was a bigwig and she should keep quiet.
There's no way to know from the prints." Tactical, and Lieutenant Henriksen, the Captain's assistant," he reported. [ LT Joshua Niles - Akrath Island prison ]With the Captain going off to take a call, Niles was left to the tender mercies of Sleebaggo... who answered his question precisely the way the Lieutenant had expected. Dismissive, even more incomplete, inaccurate, and obviously the findings of someone who limited their observations with little more than a cursory Mark 1 Eyeball inspection rather than make use of modern tools... or even doing so much as stepping off the line of the tracks to take a look for any other signs. "Of for f..." Niles started under his breath and was about to turn away when a trio appeared. Two typical close-protection types, and a fellow who clearly was some sort of local bigwig. And, thankfully, the Intelligence Officer finally did the sort of thing his kind was paid for, and provided actionable intelligence to the matter at hand and actually made the introductions. And that was enough for the civilities. A murder investigation was time-sensitive, but an escaped prisoner was even more so. On foot, one hour meant the search radius expanded by a anywhere from three to five kilometers; with ground transportation, anywhere from forty to a hundred and fifty. By atmospheric flight, it could be as much as a thousand. Sublight spaceflight would increase that radius to up to two hundred and seventy million kilometers. And if the went to warp? A fairly sedate Warp 5 would increase it by two percent of a light-year every hour. Which meant that trail needed another pair of eyes, and fast. "Minister, Sir, if you will excuse me, there is a high-value fugitive who needs catching."With that said, Niles opened up his tricorder once more, and he followed the trail Sleebaggo had been tasked to examine, seeking out any bit of information he could. DNA traces, energy signatures, further signs of ground disturbance, anything, really. And upon reaching the end, his scans started providing more information than his limited means of collection and analysis could handle. There were remnants of transporter trace, signs that boats had been landed, and some areas that had been brutally scoured by thruster wash. And that meant there was only one thing he could do with this surfeit of information, and that was to send it up to the Mac for further analysis, and once all the raw data he could collect had been captured and sent up to the ship, he made his way back towards the prison yard, where no doubt Sleebaggo would be trying to inflate his brilliance...

[NPC - Kalda Kark - Akrath Island]Kalda followed along with the topic of names. It was an interesting one, though the matter of spelling "Enola" took the former serial killer a brief time to work out in his head. Without commenting on his own name, Kalda returned to the subject at hand. "No one in the new government has this kind of brains. The Nats[fn]National Strength League of Cardassia - a prominent political party[/fn], where most of the the military types, the Obsidian Order types, are, are going into Opposition. I'd look outside of Cardassia for this.""I'd also think about how Du Toollamé came to occupy the weakest section of wall in cell block R."Kalda was hinting at a gap in the building's seismic bracing, which corresponded to the Gul's cell. [Charlie Fox - Cells, Akrath Island]"How fortunate for him," Charlie responded wryly, brows raised again as her gaze flickered over to the cell with the hole in its wall. If Kalda was to be believed, there was a known weakness in that particular cell. "Someone must have pulled a string or two for that."She had all she needed, so she got to her feet and brushed the dust off her snow trousers. "Well, Kalda Kark, the Slicker of Sdorktin, it was nice to meet you. I hope we get to chat again." The murderer had indeed given her plenty to think about, and she found herself agreeing with his observations regarding the current Cardassian political climate. With a gesture, she summoned Olsen to her, and with a nod, she bid farewell to Ensign Enola, who had become very silent. Deep in thought, Charlie stepped back through the hole and into the yard outside, raising a hand to shield her eyes from the sudden natural light. Quickly she noticed that Eastman had left, along with Josh, replaced by a trio of newcomers. She recognised the Minister of the Interior and something clicked into place in her mind. "Good morning, Minister Palkor," she greeted, stepping toward the group. "Charlie Fox, FNN. I spoke with your esteemed colleague earlier, Minister Teley. Do you both visit the prison on Akrath Island often?" She asked, her voice containing what she hoped sounded like polite curiosity, and not an accusation. If Kalda was right, and this jailbreak was actioned from outside of the Cardassian government, then someone on the Arkarian side must be involved. Ambitious Palkor, lobbying for a loftier position, Political Teley, lobbying to lay blame. Either could potentially have motive; but could one have exerted their influence to have Du Toollamé placed in a structurally compromised cell? Unfortunately for Charlie, she had only the windbag Sleebaggo to pull in for assistance. "Commander, would you mind scanning this area of the building for signs of damage prior to the escape? Compromised structural integrity, right here, right where Du Toollamé was."

[NPC - PO2 Roland L. Jenkins & Kil Ted - Mountains]Kil Ted tried to calculate his moves forward, pondering both how to protect his future freedom and his employment. "I know I'm trespassing in a bird sanctuary, but how does that make you think I'm involved in a prison break?" he asked. "I work on a very clear basis. You give me what I want, and then I give you what you want," he added, seemingly an invitation to cut an informal, maybe illegal, deal. "What I want is to be left to my camping here."Jenkins looked even more closely at the equipment, quite sure that none of it was camping equipment.

{Quoted Posts} [ Ensign Rin Zakir - Control Center, Spaceport HQ] Zak once again followed on as Trax seemed more than happy to show off just what their systems were capable of. An eighty four per cent decrease in illegal trafficking was certainly impressive, but there was always a chance that something could slip through the cracks. Even if the cracks in this case seemed to be minuscule. At least he didn't seem too offended about having been questioned on the screening process. Some of the biggest crimes in history had begun on the inside, though it wasn't an idea he would be keen to entertain when it came to his own colleagues. Again though, they seemed to have everything covered there too. He wanted to take them at their word, but they had to be thorough in this investigation. Slipping up now would do his future career no good either, on a more personal note. Speaking of personal, the bajoran nodded as the security manager explained his reasoning behind his earlier enquiry. "Understandable, only sensible to make sure I'm not gonna freak out at the first sign of a cardassian.", he responded, making sure to use the race's actual name. Better to keep up appearances and maintain a sense of professionalism, after all. "Anyhow, seems like you've got everything in hand, in theory. Mind if I stick around a little while? I'll make sure to stay away from any big red buttons", he then asked, again attempting to keep things professional but light hearted enough to hopefully build a positive rapport. Besides, he wanted to report that he had seen them in action, while of course keeping check of where his phaser was. Prophets, when had he gotten so paranoid? The other thing to consider would be just how things worked around here, their dealings with the top and all. He could try and throw it into casual conversation, he supposed. "Efficiency is definitely the word of the day here, I'm guessing this is where most of the focus from the top ends up?", he asked. Not that he had any reason to doubt that the rest of the place was just as high tech and whatever. [ CPO Kaya Som | Sensors and Systems, Level 6, Spaceport HQ ]"What about a transporter?" Kaya asked right away. The Starfleeet Trill had followed Kel to the work station and posted up next to her to take in the unfamiliar interfaces. Unfamiliar but not inscrutable - she saw what Kel was talking about. The KAINO was fast and powerful but integrating with older systems had to be buggy if not properly tended. "Maybe someone beamed down equipment that would have been found out if they'd tried to bring it down by ship." Nothing like a little backdoor. Isaiah Quinn (Kel) [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Briefing Room #2, Control Center, Spaceport HQ] After going through the majority of the reports Director Ke had left, Isaiah felt it was time to see what the others had gathered as well. He already had PO1 S'Riia looking into the communications of Director Phass Ke going in and out of this place. There was no guarantee that anything of consequence would be found there, so every bit of information that they could come across was important. He finally reached up and tapped his comm badge. "Quinn to Som and Rin. Let's reconvene at your earliest convenience. I'm in Briefing Room #2. Quinn out."
[ Security Manager Tullin Trax - Control Center, Spaceport HQ] Tullin Trax nodded at the maturity of the young Bajoran. He hadn't taken Trax's question as an affront of any sort. He made mental note to say as much to the young officer's supervisor if Starfleet had some sort of evaluation system for those they worked with to fill out. "You are more than welcome to do so," said Trax. "And if you have any questions, please feel free to ask."There was a sudden chirp on his comm-unit. He examined the identification on the screen and then turned back to Ensign Rin. "Excuse me for a moment, Ensign," he said. He only took a few steps away, possibly in earshot of the Ensign, but did lower his voice as he spoke. "... I understand. I can arrange a brief window in... three hours." He ended the call, and exhaled. After replacing his comm-unit, he returned to a question from Rin. "Yes, I'd say that's a fair assessment. Such calls typically go to Director Ke directly say from the Minister of the Interior's Office, but I'm certainly his go-to," Trax explained. He was about to go into a deeper explanation when one of his subordinates called Trax over. "Ah. If you'd like to monitor a boarded search in real time, you're welcome to join me, Ensign." Trax began to move to stand behind his subordinate as the worker brought the real-time feed on his screens. There was camera feed, as well as screens from their scanning devices already up.
[ Kel Kallis - Level 6 (Sensors & Systems), Spaceport HQ] Kel's brow arched slightly at Kaya's suggestion. "Quite an ingenious idea," she said praising the engineer. Kel seemed to run a brief simulation or two, examining the results. "There probability of detection is high if the grid is active. However... if the grid is inactive, even for brief moment, it is possible to transport something through undetected." Kel looked over at Kaya. "Guess I know who to call the next time we upgrade the systems," Kel said with a smile. "I suppose it's an unrealistic expectation to think you could be lured away from Starfleet. It'd be nice to have you around."Kel's comm-unit chirped. She ignored it for a few seconds, her eyes seeming to drink in the Trill. When a second chirp sounded, she blinked. "Sorry. It could be important," Kel said as she picked up her comm-unit. Her eyes skimmed the message that had been sent. Kel sighed heavily as she slammed the comm-unit back on the desk. She looked over at Kaya and sighed. "Are families heavily involved in one's personal life on Trill?" Kel asked, attempting to escape the stress from that comm-call.

[LCDR Tony Sleebaggo - Arkath Island]That lieutenant, Niles, once again confirmed Sleebaggo's assessment that he was a thoroughly uncouth, discourteous officer when he nearly uttered an expletive at the presence of the planets authorities. Fortunately, they did not seem to have overheard. And least he had the good sense of leaving. Unfortunately, that troublesome journalist, Charlene or whatever, reappeared. Clearly she either did not care about or had no conception of the delicate nature of diplomacy. She was incredibly snide and rude. Totally unacceptable. And then she tried to give Sleebaggo orders! "I do not take my orders from journalists, madam," she was not deserving of the title ma'am. "I apologise for any undue aspersions cast upon your character here, Minister. Starfleet is committed to working with your government to ensure the speedy conclusion of this unfortunate affair and return the prisoner to where he belongs."
[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Somewhere in the Mountains]
Chloe looked the Cardassian up and down, and examined the surroundings and his equipment. He was not camping, that was for sure. "I'm not sure if you've been camping before, but this isn't exactly the location...or equipment to go camping," she said with an accusatory tone. "Come with us, answer our questions, and maybe we'll get you some proper camping gear and drop you off somewhere nice."

She asked, her curiosity well and truly piqued at the mention of Vazk, and his suggestion that Teley's people had been the ones to organise Du Toollamé's accommodations. She was just about to press further, when that idiot windbag Sleebaggo decided to wave his mighty... ego around. Charlie regarded him like the simpleton that he was. For the second time, she wished Matthew had come instead. She'd have ignored him completely, because he'd betrayed her and she was so much more hurt than she'd ever admit, but he was still preferable to this moronic lump. "Chill out, old man," she told him, shaking her head in disappointment. She hadn't ordered him to do anything, in fact, she'd asked rather politely. For her. "Gotta watch your ticker at your age."He might not want to do any actual work, but she had a job to do. She turned, eyes sliding toward Eastman's minion. "Mabel, would you mind?" She gestured behind her at the building. "Olsen has fairly advanced scanning capabilities, but I think this will need a tricorder properly calibrated to the specific type of scan."

[ LT Joshua Niles - Akrath Island prison ]Once he was certain his readings were being analyzed up on the ship, Niles made his way back towards the recreation yard, shaking his head. Seriously, what kind of a man would deliberately investigate anything without so much as a tricorder and just rely on the eyeballs issued to him at birth when there were so many traces that would be beyond the scope of such sensors? Well, at least the Lieutenant had the sense to double-check on the putative Intelligence Officer's work... and had he not taken proper readings, there was no telling what leads and evidence were missed. And when he had returned, it was just in time to hear the man talk down to Charlie Fox and his apologies for any aspersions cast against the minister's person. Even given Joshua's general lack of interest in investigative matters and the fact he was currently relying on a month of remedial training to be able to perform those tasks, he knew he'd be hard-pressed to count all of Sleebaggos' failings in this matter. And of course he had not missed Charlie's tart response, which drew a twitch of the Lieutenant's lips... which was begging to actually turn into a grin. As a civilian, she could actually tell him off in no uncertain terms. As a fellow officer and a subordinate, Niles had a degree of constraints to deal with to express any concerns with a superior's capabilities... Which meant he bit off a sharp question to the Lieutenant-Commander before it could be given voice, and instead looked to the journalist as she was addressing Mabel. "Commander, Miss Fox may not be Starfleet and may lack the technical bend to perform the sort of scan she is asking Lieutenant Henriksen to perform or interpret its results, but she is a talented investigator in her own right, with a way to get at the facts. She also has no great love for Starfleet, so if she is asking for our support, especially towards assisting in our investigation as per the Captain's request, there is bound to be a very good reason behind it."It had taken considerable effort and self-restraint on the Lieutenant's part to keep his tone neutral and to simply provide information, and hopefully the kind of prodding that would make Sleebaggo think that going on with Charlie's notion would be the Int O's idea rather than hers or the Tac officer's. And it had taken even more effort to not just simply call out the man for the incompetent, pompous ass that he was, more worried about uncomfortable lines of questioning that might make it so he wouldn't be able to befriend local government ministers than actually doing the job and catching Toollame, and indirectly finding out precisely how he had escaped and finding those responsible. However, the Old Lady's cautions against his lashing out still echoed in his ears and he had to behave himself... "Charlie, at the risk of asking you to repeat yourself, what prompted you to request that scan?" Something was telling him she hadn't shared that tidbit just yet.

Starfleet is committed to working with your government to ensure the speedy conclusion of this unfortunate affair and return the prisoner to where he belongs." Mabel Henriksen & Minister Palkor - Akrath Island]"Right away," Mabel answered Charlie, and then stopped when she heard Palkor clear his throat. The minister couldn't help but conclude that no one here was in charge. Apparently, Eastman had been here, but was now occupied. The Captain had not struck the Minister as the type to shirk her duty, so he assumed there was a reason for this. "Run the scan," he ordered. "Until your Captain comes back, you all answer to me."In the stress of this horrible day, perhaps claiming ownership over this group of fleeters would do something for Palkor's confidence and steadiness. "Commander, you seem bright; what have you found?"Mabel scanned the building, and found the results. "This wall is in bad shape. The steel is corroded, the concrete is showing signs of unhealthy swelling[fn]This is the alkali-silica reaction, also called the Concrete Cancer, a serious problem for concrete structures[/fn], and the whole reinforcing frame has a gap," she reported, quietly, to Charlie.

[Lt. Cmdr Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkarian Mountains] "If we 'leave you to your camping', you won't be able to give us what we want," Velal replied simply, pointing out the flaw in his attempt at a deal. As Lt. Hudson pointed out the Cardassian lacked the appropriate gear for camping, she continued. "Let me guess, you get lonely out here, so all this is so you can have someone to talk to."Taggert cleared his throat and stepped forward. Interrogations were always delicate when they had no proof of involvement, but they weren't going to get anywhere except further behind if they continued to let the suspect run the conversation. "We know you aren't camping. So you can either tell us what you're really doing here, or we'll call in the Arkarian authorities to confiscate your equipment and take you in for trespassing." At least the Cardassian had given them that leverage, whether it was intentional or not.

"I tell you what you wan to hear, you stick me in a guest suite, and I get released first thing in the morning, okay? That's the deal."He stroked his soul patch, and then offered an aperitif. "You're looking for a class Y-4 shuttle-submersible. That's a start.""That's not bad."It was a common type, but that still narrowed the search down a great deal.

[ Ensign Rin Zakir - Control Center, Spaceport HQ] Despite his quirky sense of humour while off duty, Zak could be very mature and professional, when he chose so. Now was one of those times, as he was alone and dealing with someone outside of Starfleet, with whom they needed to build a rapport. So far, everything seemed to be well in that department, not to mention that the systems in place seemed to be more than adequate. Still, he was no easily impressed at everything he saw cadet, so everything needed to be viewed with a little scrutiny. Nodding in gratitude as he was allowed to stay and continue to observe the proceedings, he made sure to stand far enough back so that he would not be underfoot, but close enough so that he could see the majority of the monitors. It wasn't anything that showed on those that got the proverbial yellow alert going, as the comms device that Trax was carrying sounded and he quickly excused himself. While it was most likely nothing to worry about, he managed to overhear a bit of the conversation while pretending that all his attention was on everything but. pen a brief window in three hours? Window for what? He didn't much like the sound of that, and he would be reporting it to Quinn, but for now the security manager returned to answer his earlier question. "Everything alright?", he asked, though his face betrayed no sign that he had heard anything but the day to day operations around him. They did not get far into their conversation, when their attention was drawn by a worker calling Trax over. It seemed that there was a boarded search about to be under way, and he was invited to watch alongside them. "Thanks, I'd be glad to", he responded, just before the call came from Quinn to rendezvous with him and Som 'at his earliest convenience'. He sighed, glancing apologetically at the other before answering. "This is Rin, acknowledged, I'll be with you shortly", he responded with a tap on his own commbadge. He would like to witness at least some of this feed before reporting back, not only to satisfy his own curiosity, but he'd hopefully have a a little more to report back.
