[ENS Veronica "Ronnie" Li - Caves - Serenity Colony]
The past few minutes were nothing but a pained blur to Ronnie. Out of uniform, unarmed and without tools she had readily fallen in with all of the civilians, not her fellow officers. She had done so out of self preservation, not any kind of instinct to protect the colonists. She had staggered toward the caves, the powerful stout that had served as the only thing she had ate that day pulling at her as she ran.
Finally she was able to reach some semblance of cover. Despite her fit appearance the artist's entire body was protesting, muscles alive with fire. Sweat was falling freely down her golden brown face, making her now disheveled black hair hang over her eyes like a limp curtain.
Some Starfleet training had seeped into way into her psyche. Ronnie performed a quick sit-rep. She had no weapons, no tools, and from what she could see of the others around her the communicator badge she wore was useless. She was stuck in some dusty, dirty cave while an attack raged outside. Hands shoved at her, pulled at her kit and her clothing, yelling at her for help.
They assumed she was capable of handling herself, but she wasn't. She was so weak, weak and very scared. A handful of colonists begged her or shouted things at her while shaking her shoulders, roughly demanding she pay attention. Ronnie couldn't even brush them off. Instead she said some words, something so faint that she couldn't even hear it over the constant thump whump bump of weapons fire outside and all of the screaming.
"No, no." Ronnie said quietly, trying to shove her way through the crowd. Finally, with her nerves and adrenaline, she was able to rid herself of them, clawing her way out of that desperate circle of faces and voices. "NO!"
The artist lowered her head and madly tried to charge out of the caves, covering her ears and screaming at the top of her lungs.

[ Amira - Caves, Serenity] Making it to the caves may of taken a lot of sheer will and determination but Amira was just thankful that they had reached their destination. Of course the scientist didn't know how long they would be safe there, especially as the attackers seemed relentless. However her main concern right now was ensuring that Syl and the other woman were okay. The reaction of Syl's friend was understandable as she pulled away from Syl and sat down before sobbing. Something that Amira had seen a few times and it pulled at her heartstrings to see someone so upset. Her instinct was to reach out and comfort her, despite her being a stranger. Although as Syl thanked her and offered her help, Amira smiled and appreciated the offer. " I will, thank you Syl and if you need me at all just shout" Amira replied, leaving Syl to comfort her friend, so she could go and find out what was happening and where she would be needed. The sound of weapons fire getting closer and closer wasn't going to deter her from doing what she had to, especially when she came across Hendricks covered in burns and led him to the makeshift hospital.

Both methods of attack were proceeding as planned and as the mighty starship tried to engage the fighters. The energy weapon known as the Neutraliser soon made short work of their pathetic attempt. Giving the attackers more time to complete their mission as confirmation fed through to Alpha, leaving the Leader with a pleasing grin upon his face. Power, weapons and shields had been knocked out albeit temporarily. Enough to stop them from defending themselves and the colony for at least four hours.
As for their shuttles and other defensive craft and measures, a well aimed strike to keep them occupied was enough. The loss of some of his pilots was a sacrifice that he was willing to make as he then called up for reinforcements.
==R== Everything is proceeding as planned, Bravo, we'll keep the rest of them busy whilst you begin the next phase of our mission ==R==
==R== Excellent Alpha, I think they've gotten the message so far. Although the caves won't protect them for long. I'll contact you again once our ground forces are in place ==R==
==R== Until then and I wish you much success ==R==
The comms on both sides ended as the respective leaders continued their onslaught. Shuttles exploded whilst the colony burned, the attacking ships moved away from the town square and concentrated on the caves.

Taron Lars (bio) | Caves
A large hand found Myk's shoulder, but a voice in his mind followed quickly. Fellow Betazoid the farmer Taron Lars had approached Myker Vulbrix. No introductions were needed, or, perhaps, there was no time for them.
"Friend," sent Taron wordlessly, "are you in communication with your ship?"
Myker Vulbrix [ Myker Vulbrix - Caves, Serenity] Myker glanced around at those around him, his mind silent but the noise from the colonists rushing for cover was enough to keep him sane. It seemed the colonists had found their way to the cave, or most of them. Some injured and others just terrified, it was a pitiful sight and major contrast from the peace of the earlier festivities. The noise from the frenzied colonists was quickly drowned out by the noise from whoever was firing on them. Myk tapped his communicator in an attempt to reach the Mac, but there was static, a sound that was almost worse than silence. It meant any connection to the ship was severed as neither party, those landside and those in orbit could offer assistance. Myker wasn't startled by the hand on his shoulder, he looked at the man blankly for a moment. The mans silent question didn't reach it's intended destination. Myker's mental shielding was perfectly in place, nothing entered or left his mind. It was better that way for everyone. Do you need assistance? Myker asked the man out loud, indicating this was how he preferred to communicate, which was contrary to most Betazoids. He had felt the poking, the mental nudge of the question but beyond that he was clueless. Kaya Som for Taron

[Shavan Th’zhaar - Caves, Serenity]
As the town square emptied, Shavan joined the rush for the caves. Navigating quickly through the wreckage of the town, all that mattered now was everyone getting to shelter until they could learn more about the threat. He glimpsed the others who had been in the beer tent along the way, but didn’t stop to help as as long as they were moving, staying alive.
A blast hit a building close by, and more burning debris rained down. Instinctively he managed to duck away from the worst of it, but only just. He stumbled, almost falling as something struck his shoulder hard. When he touched his arm he hissed in pain, and his fingers came back wet with green blood. But there was nothing to be done about it; unable to pause for anything yet, he kept running.
Only when inside the caves did Shavan stop for breath, eyes quickly scanning the crowd for those he knew. Of course, with the raiders outside they were still far from safe here. As quickly as he could, he started towards the command center, looking for where the crew would be regrouping.

[ Mara - Caves] Reaching the command centre within the caves had been no easy task, especially with debris and the fires trying to block their escape. However once she was inside and directed Niles to where he wanted to be, Mara knew that she would be needed elsewhere as Niles engaged Marais in conversation. Listening to the exchange, Mara then interrupted briefly. " Keep me updated as I'm needed in the makeshift hospital" she stated, knowing that her medical knowledge would be more useful at the moment. Keeping the panic at bay until everyone was safely here, Mara followed the slightly rocky path, the smell of charred and burnt flesh permeated the air as she entered the hospital.
Amira tag Syl O'Connell Charlie Fox, Mara tag Joshua Niles [ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Caves] Left Ear nearly fell over with the children in her arms before getting into the caves as the assault caused the ground to rumble. She'd carried Sivaoan children before, but they were more capable of holding on themselves. Her arms ached. Finally, she stumbled into the entrance to the caves, only to be met by a frantic woman who gathered the little girls from Left Ear while sobbing and scolding her daughters for running off. Somewhere through her tears she also thanked Left Ear. The Sivaoan waved her off after ascertaining that she didn't need any immediate medical help. Now where did she need to go? There had to be an infirmary or medical center somewhere. She pushed her way through the crowds, finally asking one of the locals and getting pointed the right direction. Left Ear noticed several of her crewmates as she passed, but focused on getting to where she could be of the most help. Left Ear could smell the burns before she reached the hospital. She fought not to let her sensitive nose wrinkle. There were also injured people making their way down the same path. She burst into the medical area and looked around for whoever was in charge. Mara was the only person Left Ear recognized, so she headed for the local woman. ' Where do you want me?' she asked simply. tag Thea Baker

{Quoted Posts} [ Thea - Town Square] Thea shook her head amusingly at Isaiah's parting words to Jovireh, before the newly minted Chief, left them for some liquid encouragement. It was an action that Thea, knew only too well as she used to do exactly the same until she served on Epsilon. Hoping to catch up with her later, Thea's attention was solely on having some fun with Isaiah. Happily letting her boyfriend lead them towards the music. Dancing was an activity that they did a lot of, even if it was just in their quarters. However being surrounded by infectious, joyous and a beat that you couldn't ignore, was something else entirely. The melody instantly shattered the minute that the distinctive sound of explosions and weapons fire took over and Isaiah commented that they weren't fireworks. " I agree" she replied as Isaiah then tried to raise the Mac. When he was answered with silence, Thea had to keep the fear at bay as her concern for her ship and crew intensified. She had to think and quickly, knowing that there was nothing she could do for her ship for now. People were running, screaming and attempting to escape death around them and Thea wasn't going to let these ships destroy everyone. Isaiah's suggestion of helping the colonists was borne out of their responsibility and an idea that she shared. " Yes let's help, then we can figure out our next step when we regroup with the others".Whilst she didn't doubt that her people on the surface weren't already helping. Instinct took over as Thea tapped her hidden commbadge. =/\= Baker to all, we've lost contact with the Mac, do what you can to help and get to the caves, we'll regroup there =/\= Squeezing Isaiah's hand and putting everything she wanted to say into looking at him. Thea stayed close and prepared to run before a piece of flying debris struck her in the back, searing her flesh and lacerating her side. The pain and unexpectedness of it all propelled her forward and onto the ground. [ LT Joshua Niles - Town Square, Serenity Colony ]Well, that was that. No sooner had Mara snapped out of her immediate shock and started leading him towards whatever command post would be available in that shelter she had mentioned that first the Captain's voice came over the channel, instructing everyone to seek shelter, and assist however they could. Well, granted he could escort more people, but in the immediate there was a need to get the colony administrator under cover and figure out the situation. And while he was confident that Sheriff Marais would have followed the training syllabus that had been provided with that sensor and weapons network that had been deployed across the system, but given the totality of the surprise, well, an expert's eyes wouldn't go amiss.
Some might wind up calling him a coward for making his way in there right now, but was it really cowardice to want to put soil and stone and possibly thoroughly modern materials between oneself and incoming fire? And given the circumstances, ensuring a continuity of leadership among the civilians was crucial; Starfleet damn well made sure that the chain of command was resilient and that operations could continue even when plenty of holes were blasted into it, but civilians, well, did not have that benefit. Before long, Mara did lead him into the caves, and once under cover his phaser returned to his shoulder holster before he found his way to a small command center, only to find he was the first member of the Mac's crew to get there. "Sheriff, how bad is it?"The older man was clearly harried, and hadn't been there long himself. However, he had already gathered some information. "No idea," he replied tersely. "People are still streaming in, and I can't get to the platforms you delivered."Well, that was a bad start all right, but at least some of the blanks could be filled. "Subspace communications are jammed; we can't raise the Mac or any of our small craft either."The look on the older man's face spoke volumes all right, and he was less than pleased. But that didn't stop Niles from making his way to one of the cramped consoles where he brought up any sensor logs that might have made it in, and tried to access the dirtside sensor array, not even knowing if it still existed at this time. Shepherding stragglers and getting ready to engage ground troops was all good, but information was crucial in any crisis. Of course, with the raiders outside they were still far from safe here. As quickly as he could, he started towards the command center, looking for where the crew would be regrouping. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Caves, Serenity] He felt the pressure of her hand upon his loosen in that moment. Instinct forced him to cling tighter even as some forced propelled him forward. After colliding with the ground, his eyes moved towards Thea. Instantly, his eyes focused on the growing stain of blood on the back of her dress. "Thea? Thea!" he called out... or at least he tried to. He couldn't even hear the sound of his voice over the deafening thuds of his own heartbeat. It drummed rapidly, almost threatening to give out in fatigue as he ripped at the hem of her dress, looking for something to dress the wound and slow the bleeding. He quickly pulled of his sweater and draped it over her upper body after turning her over so that he could lift her into his arms. It may have been less than a minute, but it felt like an eternity, especially as hell continued to rain down upon them. The caves. He knew that's where he needed to go. Where help would be for Thea. His eyes searched frantically, and he could see a few others racing in one particular direction out of town. He followed suit. Along the way, his focus was only reaching his destination. He passed by lifeless bodies along the away... burning debris. Yet, none of that mattered. At least not now. As he made it into the caves, it felt like a maze of people as he searched for a collection of wounded. It almost felt like that was all that was there. His eyes didn't register any familiar faces... at least not right away. Mara... and Left Ear. He moved towards the pair of them, knowing that they were likely Thea's best chance. "Over here!" he called out as he set Thea down for what would serve as an examination area. "She was hit by debris... lower abdominal region... anterior," Isaiah called out, trying to give as much information as he could. "I... I don't know if there's debris inside or if it went through. Blood... there was a lot of blood." A heavy sigh left his lips. He wanted to stay there... to hold her hand. To tell her every three seconds that she was going to be just fine, but he knew what was coming. He'd seen Thea do it far too often. He'd be asked to step aside... to move out of the way so that her injuries could be tended. His hand reached down to push aside a strand of her hair as he leaned over to kiss her forehead. "I love you." As he stood up, his eyes stared at Thea's even as he held her hand a few seconds longer, until he felt that impending reminder for him to step aside was coming. He was smiling as he took a few steps back. Though, the smile was for her... for Thea. Right now, he just wanted to be there for her. And in that moment, he cursed that damned promotion he'd just gotten, because with her right now was the last place he needed to be. As he exhaled, he could feel the shakiness of his breathing. He took another breath, in... and out... attempting to steady his breathing... his pulse... himself. His eyes looked around, and he could eventually see certain people gathering in an area, likely a makeshift command post. He knew that was where he was supposed to be. He told himself that was where Thea would expect him to be. He had hoped that would be enough to get his legs moving, but it was the thought that she'd be over there shortly that finally prompted him. "Report," Isaiah said as he moved closer to those that had gathered there. Niles appeared to have been there for a while, but others were beginning to coalesce as well. Shavan was there. His eyes were also searching for other's he'd seen earlier or knew were on the planet: Velal? Kaya? His mind was nowhere near strategy... at least not yet. He was simply hoping that the rest of their people were okay... as well as the colonists. Then, they could worry about next steps after a general status had been determined, and as well as if anyone had managed to contact the Mac.

{Quoted Posts} [ Kaya Som | Caves ]There was nothing quite so sobering as a half-mile sprint under an air raid, but adreneline and running and wheat beer did not agree and by the time Kaya was safe in the cave complex she felt ready to hurl. Automatically, she lifted the glass of beer to her lips, finding it barely half full. She steadied herself against the wall when the ground rumbled again under the bombardment. "Mmm..." she groaned, eyes closed for a moment, but it didn't help the vertigo. She had been vaguely aware of Taron's and Kova's guidance out of the beer tent, but now in the crowded space she saw neither of them. With most Starfleet out of uniform and the colonists greatly outnumbering them, Kaya had trouble finding anyone she knew. There were injuries. A pair of colonists bumped by her, their limp companion carried between them her legs dragging. She saw a Vulcan inspecting his own green-bloodied arm impassively. She reached for her comm badge, but it wasn't there. She remembered now it was in her bag, which she no longer had. She must have left it in the tent. With a fortifying grunt, she shook out her shoulders and began moving about to find her party. "Kova!" Kaya approached in a wandering fashion, her brows knit with appropriate gravity. "Where's everyone?" Myker Vulbrix [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Caves, Serenity] As they reached the cave, Kova nodded in Taron's direction, thankful for his guidance and helping them to the caves. The Andorian lingered near Kaya as Taron moved about seeing after others and some of his people. The scene before Kova was vaguely familiar. She could remember being with the Maquis as they fled for shelter like this when one of their bases had been discovered by Cardassians. The wounded... the dead... the fearful... they always found themselves keeping company with others in moments like this. Especially, considering that everyone was typically counted among the fearful whether they cared to admit it or not. Kova was torn from her musings as Kaya spoke, still clutching that damned beer glass. If anything, the Trill was persistent, but that was something Kova had perceived about her long ago. She inquired asking where everyone was. Kova had assumed that the answer was obvious, but realized she may have been speaking about the rest of her Fleeter friends. After all, as Chief Engineer, there was probably something important she should be doing now... even though she wasn't on a ship. Kova's eyes wondered about the cave, and then fell upon a small gathering. "Most of them are over there," she said pointing. Kova was curious if she'd managed to make the walk over there on her own... because she honestly looked a bit like one of her antennae had been lopped off (if Trill had antennae.) "Are you all right?" she asked. Though, Kova was curious about some of the others. In the hustle here, she'd lost track of Shavan, though now saw him moving towards that group she'd pointed out to Kaya. Yet, there was also Charlie. Where was she? And Syl had been on the planet as well. Her eyes casually glanced about, searching for them.

[ Mara - Makeshift Hospital] Being amongst the injured and dying took Mara back to the Breen attack on Earth. However this time she wasn't a medical trainee and had to push aside the horrific memories in order to focus on helping her people. Death hung in the air, the smells clawing at her nose and throat but the Administrator perservered as her, the other medics and volunteers began to triage those who had either been brought here or had managed to reach the hospital unaided. Some were patched up and sent on their way whilst others were either prepped for surgery or made comfortable until the darkness claimed them permanently. Grief would have to wait as prayers were said before moving onto the next patient. It was during her assessment of Hendricks who Amira had brought in, that Mara covered in other people's blood realised that Left Ear had joined them. Appreciating the additional assistance as she was asked where she wanted the Sivaoan. Mara was about to answer when Isaiah rushed in with an injured Thea, her heart sinking upon seeing her friend and the blood that had spilled from her. This shouldn't of happened but Mara, had to just keep going. " We'll take good care of her" she said reassuringly as Isaiah shared a tender moment with his girlfriend before duty tore him away from her. " Left Ear, if you can see to Thea whilst I finish with Hendricks" she stated as calmly as she could, not wanting to let worry consume her. ************* [ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] Everything seemed to blur into one for Thea as excruciating pain coursed through her body. She had been aware of Isaiah and how he had gotten them to safety. However when met with the smells and deathly atmosphere inside the caves, Thea realised that she was contributing to it. The kiss to her forehead and Isaiah's affirmation of love, brought Thea back to the moment as other voices spoke and the Captain focused on the one she recognised as Mara who was addressing Left Ear. Trying to sit up and faltering, Thea managed to voice what she wanted to Left Ear. " Just do what you can to make me mobile again....." she pleaded through the pain. Of course she had an inkling of how severe she had been injured but perhaps it was just superficial as she needed to help the others.

A big girl, broad shouldered and as scared as she was she had quite a bit of fight in her. She struggled mightily against the man's grasp. Her body was on autopilot, still going through the motions of running even though she was being held firmly. The artist's mind was a blur as panicked words erupted nonstop from her mouth. When Ronnie finally realized that she was being restrained she collapsed into the arms of whoever was, an animal sounding, high pitched whine escaping her clenched lips. She had already exhausted her compliment of tears, but they still stained her face, along with sweat and dust from the rocks around them as well as caked on dirt from a nasty fall she had taken. Helplessly, she flailed against the man, trying halfheartedly to break free, but her poor fitness and physical and emotional exhaustion precluded that. " P-p-p-please let me go," The artist begged in a stuttering, weak voice, eyes rolling wildly in her head until she finally looked up at the man. Tag: Kaya Som

[ SCPO Kaya Som | The Caves ]"Yeah," Kaya answered Kova, now better attending the actual details of the space and the people in it. She let out another long breath, trying (in vain) to clear her head. "Bit potted, but fine. Urp." Kaya swallowed a hiccup. She went to take another sip of the beer in her hand, but truly noticed it this time and pulled it back. She glanced at Kova who Kaya had to assume had held off on some typically deadpan Andorian commentary on the subject. There wasn't exactly a side table to set the thing down, so Kaya crossed her arms and held it awkwardly. "I should probably make some effort to Engineer something," Kaya said but didn't move yet. The ground rumbled again, the barrage still on outside. She pivoted but couldn't see out the entrance with all the people in the way. She narrowed her eyes and sort of scowled, put off. "What the hell is even happening? It's not Baker's old boyfriend again is it? Counseling. Honestly." Kova Sh'qaleq

[ LT Joshua Niles - Command Post, Caves, Serenity Colony ]{Quoted Posts} [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Caves, Serenity] As the town square emptied, Shavan joined the rush for the caves.

Now that he had access to a console, Niles had gotten to work seeking out information about what was going on. Sheriff Marais, on the other hand, looked like as though he was chomping at the bit and dying to get out there and actually do something much more practical than receive a litany of reports from the medical section and about the arrivals of stragglers and the myriad of other details that were involved with an emergency evacuation into some bolthole. However, it did not mean there was much that one tactical officer could do. Normally, from that particular console and an quick uplink to the Mac, he could have access to every scrap of informatiotut instead, there was nothing. All that was available was a few seconds of logs from the colony's own space-based sensor net showing an indeterminate number of ships and some energy buildups, and then nothing as the whole band used for their subspace communications was jammed. And Niles was about to let out some frustration on the poor innocent console when Commander Quinn entered, seeking a report. "Sir, all communications out are jammed including the command and control and telemetry links to the system sensor net and weapons platforms. I have no idea how many ships are involved or who they are or what the situation looks like in space. All I can say is that whoever that is, they destroyed or bypassed our sensor net and patrols and that as of right now the best case scenario is that Mac is actively engaging them, which is why we have an enemy presence in atmosphere and that a call for reinforcements has been sent out, but I wouldn't bet on that."Well, that certainly was not a very informative report all right, and the situation was most certainly bleak. Now, with Lieutenant Shavan making his way into the command post, that was one more person accounted for... and this was when Niles noticed the blood on Quinn's clothes... but he decided against bringing up the Captain just now. If she wasn't here, she had a good reason not to be. "In the meantime, last I heard from Chief Velal was that she was assisting stragglers with the security detail and you and Lieutenant Th'zhaar are the first I've seen since I got here."

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Serenity - Town Square --> Caves]Syl was grateful for Amira's help in steering Charlie down the path towards the shelter. It was obvious her friend was stuck in some sort of flashback, and had they not been under attack she would have taken the time to talk her through her it and bring her back to the present. Thankfully, whatever she was seeing, didn't make her fight them, and finally they had made it to the safety of the caves. Charlie pulled away from her and sat down against the wall. Syl turned to Amira with a nod of thanks. "I'm a pilot, I'm not sure how much help I can be. But if you do need me, just holler. I can follow directions pretty well." For now, it seemed best that she stayed out of the way and let everyone do what they needed to get situated. She sat down next to Charlie, gently running her hand over the other woman's back, murmuring quiet reassurances to her in what she hoped was a soothing voice. [Charlie Fox - Caves]"I remember it, Syl, I remember it all."Her voice was a ghost of a whisper, her face pale and drawn, loose strands of hair stuck to her cheeks from drying tears. Though Charlie was staring off at something unseen, she was aware that Syl was beside her, and that close by, Olsen was hovering this way and that in random patterns. Without orders, and presented with his Mistress' unprecedented behaviour, he had no cues and his programming did not include procedure for when Charlie became mentally incapacitated. Physically, yes, but otherwise this was unchartered territory. She simultaneously felt lost, and yet also like she'd found something. Something she'd never wanted. It was less like finding it though really, and felt more like getting smacked in the face with a hard, immoveable object. You need to stop. She focused on the sensation of Syl's hand on her back and the other woman's voice. The abyss awaited otherwise; something she hadn't really tasted since Caldonia. She could put it aside - she knew she could. She'd obviously done it as a child to protect herself... Why could she not do it now? The pain was overwhelming, the panic almost too much to bear. She'd thought she'd left that little girl behind just as surely as her parents had. "I'm sorry..."She had no idea what she was sorry for, or who she was apologising to.

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square --> Caves]It seemed to take forever to complete a thorough search for wounded, although Velal knew it was likely only a few minutes. When she made it back to the point she had started, she told the team to stay in the caves once they got there and she was on her way to join them. With a deep breath to steady herself, she left her cover at a sprint, and not a moment too soon. Another blast sent debris flying in all directions, and she was thrown to the ground by the force. Her body ached as she pushed herself slowly back to her feet. Some parts hurt worse than others, and she could see fresh green blood, but she didn't let herself look. Adrenaline was her friend, and it helped her continue running away from the destruction. Finally Jovireh made it into the caves, and only then did she stop long enough to take a count of her injuries. Her knee ached, but she could put weight on it. Her face had a few scrapes judging by the sting of her sweat on her forehead and cheek. Her left arm must have been sliced by the debris... There was a several-inch long laceration beneath her torn shirt. But it wasn't too deep, she could still function. Jovireh felt lucky. Making her way to where the senior officers had gathered, she gave a nod to each of them before turning her attention to Quinn. Baker was probably assisting with the wounded... "I'm the last one down, sir. The colonists had a few fatalities, but all of our people made it here." At least they could safely say there were no survivors still groundside. If a loved one wasn't in the caves, they were gone.
