[Town Square - Serenity] [Approximately one month after Requiem] If someone had told Thea that she would be back here on Serenity six months after exposing the evil mastermind that had taken some of her crew hostage. She would of thought it was some kind of practical joke and one that wasn't funny. However here she was, after the colonists and her old friend Mara had reached out to Command and invited the Mac to their harvest festival. At first Thea had been unsure about attending until she had spoken to Mara directly and discovered that they had wanted to show the crew the progress they had made, as well wanting to thank them for freeing them of tyranny. After that explanation, there had been no hesitation in accepting the invite. Believing it to be a good idea that would benefit the crew and also give them some downtime to enjoy the festival and catch up with the colonists. In some ways, it would also develop ties and build on what had already been established since their first visit. Already Thea could see the difference since they had arrived a few hours before and now that she had beamed down, couldn't help but smile at the effort that had been put in. The entire main street and town square was decorated in colourful ribbons and flags. Whilst the dwellings and businesses were covered in decorations, leading them to games, stalls and other activities, including music that captured your interest. The atmosphere was one of fun and celebration and for Thea it truly was wonderful to behold. Getting to share this with her crew, Isaiah and the colonists, was going to be a lot of fun and she couldn't wait to explore it all. Dressed in a green cotton off the shoulder dress, with her auburn hair in loose curls, Thea felt like she belonged as she turned to her beloved. " Where would you like to start first?" she asked, thinking it was a good idea for Isaiah to chose their first activity. [Mara Rexan - Town Square, Serenity]
Six months of rebuilding, hard work and a lot of sheer determination and now they could finally reap the rewards for everything they had done. For Mara, it was both emotional and bittersweet, considering how they had come so close to losing it all. However thanks to the Fleet and particularly the crew of the Mac this was now a time of celebration and appreciation for surviving it all.
Of course she had been worried that Thea and the others, wouldn't want to return which was completely understandable. Although there was some relief, once she had spoken to her friend and explained. So seeing them arrive had truly been wonderful and knew that she wasn't the only one who wanted to welcome them with open arms.
Spying Thea up ahead, Mara waved to her and her beau Isaiah, smiling happily before the fryer needed her attention. Scooping the basket filled with fresh doughnuts, Mara placed them on the paper and dusted them with vanilla sugar. Resisting the urge to eat one as she then moved them to a serving plate, ready to give to their customers. Today and the rest of the weekend was going to be great and she couldn't help but look forward to it all.
" Fresh doughnuts, come and get them whilst they're hot".

[ Chief Engineer Kaya Som, Taron Lars (bio) | Beer tent along the main thoroughfare ]Kaya Som was in something like a beer garden surrounded by farmers and others from Engineering. "Hei, tal, bal!" Thump, thump, thump went the dozen heavy cups on the wooden table, the fragrant golden brew sloshing over the brim. Those chanting then skulled as much as they could for another three-count. Kaya came up for air and tossed her empty cup on the table and put her hands in the air, triumphant. A few others had done the same thing among them the heavy Betazoid called Taron Lars who reached across and clapped her on the shoulder. The old farmer had been delighted when Kaya finally made good on her promise to accept his original offer to partake of Serenity's local beer. [fn] s2.m1 - Secrets of Serenity[/fn] The work was nearly done, their troubles were past, it was time to celebrate. Kaya had plenty to celebrate. She was alive, she was thriving, she was at the top of her game. She felt proud to have done something good, to have contributed to growing things, producing something from the earth and learning new things. She hadn't realized she'd needed this closure. "Another!" bellowed Taron who waved for the empty cups to be replaced, and the song began again. It was an old work song brought to serenity from so-and-so's home planet. It was about earth golems and promises and lost lovers and the rhythm of the feet of beasts of burden. Open tag

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Town Square, Serenity] Admittedly, Isaiah wasn't sure what to expect coming back to Serenity. The last time he'd been there, the place had been terrorized by some creep that held a vendetta against his girlfriend, Thea. He had always prepared himself to cross paths with some potential jealous ex of Thea's, but had never anticipated that someone could have animosity at that level for Thea. Yet, that was in the past, and looking out into the town square, Serenity seemed like an incredibly different place now that it was no longer under siege. The people all seemed happy and enjoying this harvest festival that the crew of the Mac had been invited to. If things continued to carry on like this, Serenity could possibly become a favorite among potential sites for shore leave. Isaiah caught sight of Mara waving at both Thea and himself. He returned the gesture with a smile of his own. Taking a deep breath, he looked over at Thea as she asked him where he'd like to start first. She had decided to attend this festival wearing civilian attire, and he had no objections to the green dress she had chosen. He had worn dark slacks and a maroon sweater himself, but was still trying to decide where to begin. "I'm not sure to be honest," he said. "I'm still trying to get used to the sight of this place actually being alive with people actually enjoying themselves. Did you have a preference? Food or fun?"

[Town Square - Serenity] Following Isaiah's lead as Mara waved to them both, Thea had to smile at seeing one of her oldest friends, looking happy and busy. The lure of the freshly made doughnuts was strong, however Thea managed to resist the urge to go over immediately as Isaiah answered her question. His response was understandable considering what had happened the last time they were here. A lot had changed and to see the colony thriving as opposed to it looking derelict, empty and terrorised by her Academy stalker. Shaking that memory away as Isaiah looking gorgeous as ever in his dark slacks and jumper, asked if she had a preference. The choice was difficult but Thea didn't take too long to make a decision. " I know what you mean, it's so different but in a good way and hmmm let's go have some first then we can try the food" Thea suggested, before the music caught her attention. " Would you care to dance, Mr Quinn?".

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Main thoroughfare, Serenity] Kova was still trying to determine exactly why she had come to Serenity. It certainly wasn't to enjoy this Harvest Festival, because as of right now... she wasn't. In fact, she had done her best to veer away from most of the attractions in the town square. Though, she moved along the perimeter towards the main thoroughfare, thus far managing to avoid most vendors and locals that would seek to engage her. She was even able to avoid most of the Fleet personnel that knew her. There were certainly easier ways of doing that, but the Andorian had yet to make any final decisions. Perhaps it was actually time to do just that. She wasn't mandated to do any counseling... perks of not being in the Fleet. Yet, if she were honest with herself, she hadn't gotten over what had happened on Caldonia. Everyone else seemed to have found their footing in one way or another. Shavan and Syl certainly had. It was likely their recent promotions had helped, but it seemed they had found a way to set aside Eastman's decision to leave them behind and move on. Perhaps that was some class they taught in the final year at the Academy, because Kova had certainly missed that. Harmon had seemed to have been able to pack it all away as soon as they'd gotten aboard the shuttle. He'd resurfaced recently, and seemed to be very much his same self. There was also Charlie. Of course, Kova had always found the human reporter to be more resilient than she appeared. She had still been chasing down stories and even collaborating with Starfleet during that jail break on Arkaria. It may have been to get the story, but she'd still be able to set her personal feelings aside to get it done. Kova still wasn't certain that was something that she could do. If it wasn't, then why continue to torture herself by staying there? She didn't have any professional commitments to keep her aboard the station. One could even argue that her personal connections were limited as well. It wasn't a topic that Kova wanted to explore too deeply, because she knew she'd find an excuse to stay. In part, perhaps that was what this trip to Serenity had been about. Exploring options other than remaining on that station. Putting distance between herself and everything there. Kova continued to move about the town, her ivory hair braided and falling in front of her over her shoulder. Her hands were buried in the pockets of her dark jacket as she wondered aimlessly along the perimeter. As she continued her stroll, she could hear some chanting... or was it singing. Her eyes peered along a table to find plenty of people uttering the words in unison and then downing some sort of ale. She spied at least one familiar face: that of Kaya Som. Kova had some admiration for Kaya, and her ability to grow from her hardships. She'd walked away from it all, and somehow found herself the new Chief Engineer now. Looking at her now, it was hard to see any trace of whatever may have troubled her to walk away in the first place. Perhaps that was what Kova needed... to get away, whether that path brought her back to Frontier Station or took her some place entirely new. Kova paused in her steps, looking upon everyone gathered beneath the tent. She simply wanted to observe for now. The rumor was that months ago, this city had been under siege, with some madman using mercenaries to abduct the townspeople and torture them. Seeing the smiles on their faces now, Kova never would have guessed this was the same place. Was everyone capable of moving on, or was she simply the exception to that rule?

[Charlie Fox - Town Square, Serenity]Charlie was actually enjoying herself. What an absolutely foreign concept of late. But she did feel good... Well, perhaps that was a little bit of an exaggeration, it was more like a strange kind of peace. It had taken weeks for her to feel some semblance of normality after they'd returned from Caldonia, and another month at least before her enthusiasm for her work had begun to return. There was some colour in her cheeks, she'd been putting on weight, and some of her smiles even appeared less sardonic, and more genuinely pleased again. It had been largely down to her time on Arkaria, she knew. She'd stayed after the Mac crew had left, happy that they'd managed to wrangle Gul du Toollamé once again, but Charlie had been offered a unique opportunity to take a glimpse inside the mind of a prolific serial killer. And then there'd been Deywa, the other reason that she'd wanted to stay and risk frostbite in the mountains next to the frozen lakes. She'd known that it was just a fling; a holiday romance, but it had felt so normal. So right, so vital. The time had flown by far too quickly, as it tends to do, but she'd been ready to receive that call from Spil when it came. Her editor reminded her in his straightforward, Vulcan way, that she was pushing her luck, and even snaring an interview with Kalda Kark could not buy her any more free vacation days. The sound of a drinking song raised the corners of her mouth again as Charlie passed by the Beer Tent. As she strolled passed the opening, entrance flaps tied back to reveal the revelries inside, she caught a glimpse of her friend, Kaya. She would absolutely be joining in the fun in that tent, but experience dictated that she should leave that stop until last. She'd capture the footage of the Harvest Festival, chat with a few of the colonists and then send Olsen on a reconnaissance before making her way back to beer and song. Some things you learned the hard way. A handsome, dark-haired and skinned Betazoid waved at her, trying to capture her attention from between two of his stalls. One exhibit seemed to involve some kind of blowpipe, which several people were using to create a currently molten sculpture. To Charlie, it looked like collaborative glass blowing, and some of the pieces on display in front of the stall were beautiful. With a flick of her wrist, Charlie redirected her holorecording drone toward the array. As she neared she could see the material was not quite as clear as glass; though it did have a crystal quality to it, with one or two pieces tinted violet. They were beautiful, though one imperfect, and Charlie was quite taken with the rather wonky looking statue of some kind of feline. She glanced up and around, looking to catch the eye of the Betazoid colonist who had waved at her previously. "May I?" Charlie asked, gesturing toward the animal figurine. "Please!" The man responded with an enthusiastic smile as he stepped toward the display. With a gentle touch, Charlie picked it up and held it up to the light, smiling as refraction through the stone cast tiny sparkles everywhere. "If you don't mind my asking, Miss... Why this one?"She looked up, brows raised with surprise at the question. "I don't know," she said honestly with a shrug, returning her attention to the not-quite-right Betazoid cat. "It spoke to me more than the others, I guess. What can I give you for it? Credits? A trade?""Please, you must have it." He smiled at her, an expression so bright that it caught her off-guard and she found herself speechless for a moment. "What? No, no, don't be silly, man. That wouldn't be right.""It would be most right," he responded, his tone sure. He somehow managed to be quietly persistent, without being in any way pushy. It was an excellent skill to have as a salesman, Charlie thought. He had her full attention as he explained, "I'm a student of kaladi, the art of blowing serenite, the stone found to the east of here. When I come to work every day and begin, my Master makes me keep my first creation, every time, no matter how good or bad it might be. It is created at a time when the serenite is not hot enough to be appropriately malleable. It is a tradition." He gestured toward the purple-hued, sparkly "cat" in her palm. "That was my first work of the day. Nobody ever purposely chooses to display their first work of the day, and I've never met anyone who liked one.""Oh." Charlie couldn't decide if she was embarrassed or amused, and perhaps the confusion showed in her expression, but she rallied as usual. "It's half-baked, just like me."The artist laughed, surprised, having thought he'd need to reassure the young woman. "Nothing perfect is ever interesting," he told her, his smile just as bright, though his tone turned a little suggestive. "And interesting is always beautiful. The piece has found its match."He was a bit of a smoothie, but Charlie knew she liked him. "What's your name?""Andrus.""Thanks for the wonky cat, Andrus." With those parting words, she wandered off, slipping the little imperfect creature into a pocket on her sun dress.

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square]Despite all the reassurances that the colony was now thriving gang-free, Jovireh had expressed her concerns to Captain Baker and Commander Taggert about how this particular colony had lied to them before, and succeeded in acquiring additional security measures for the Mac team down on the surface. While they were all in civilian attire, most had phasers, tricorders and com devices concealed on their person, and she was no exception. The newly promoted Chief had finished her own sweep of the perimeter of the festival - under the guise of checking out all the attractions that were available - and received the check ins from the other security personnel whom had similar tasks. Pleased that everyone she saw seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves without a care in the world, and not picking up so much as a flicker of nervousness from any of the townsfolk, Jovireh made her way back to where she had last seen Thea and Isaiah. Grabbing a fresh donut with a friendly greeting to Mara - also grateful to see that she had recovered well from the ordeal - she moved over to the couple. "Everything looks clean so far," she told them with a small smile. "Give me half an hour and I might start to relax."

A farmer, who didn't know what a Kova was, began pounding her fist on the table joining in the fun. Taron leaned to see who Kaya was calling and he lifted his eyebrows when he saw the unhappy-looking Andorian. He was much larger and could hold his drink better than the small Trill so he had a mite more sense. He didn't have to search Kaya's mind at all to sense her genuine affection. "Kova is your friend," he observed. "But may need more subtle encouragement to join us."Kaya didn't need to be told twice, she stumbled over the bench and trotted out of the tent. She'd abandoned her sandals at some point, her feet bare beneath her light loose layers and short trousers. "Come on, Kovy, we know you're hot. Get over yourself. Come have some beer. It's made of wheat." That last fact seemed like it was meant to be enticing because Kaya was nodding and grinning about it. "Oh, look, it's Charlie --," Kaya was momentarily distracted. [Myker Vulbrix - Town Square, Serenity]
Myker hadn't been to Serenity the first time, but he'd heard the stories. Glancing around the place seemed remarkably different to what he'd heard, and it seemed far more welcoming than he might've imagined. Much like the rest of his crew mates he'd taken on a more casual attire, although still neat, presentable and somewhat dressed up. Myker found his feet fairly quickly on the USS Mac, but now it was a whole new environment again.
Serenity was exactly that, Serene. It seemed to be everything a crew could want for a little bit of shore leave. The Betazoid wasn't as easily convinced, maybe it was a hint of cynicism that had crept into his being over the years and was now making itself known or maybe the man was just more used to the openess Betazoid provided him. Whatever the case was Myk was skeptical about the crews return to Serenity. Once he'd hit the town square where it seemed people were congregating he stopped, hovering on the edges of the crowds as he scanned each face and person. The atmosphere was relaxed which was a far cry from the story that had reached his ears. Looks could be deceiving, but should the need arise Myk could assist in finding the truth.
He'd chosen a spot away from the larger crowds, to observe. Although in communications, Myker wasn't the greatest at it especially with colonists of a place he knew nothing about. However they seemed to be making the best of their lives now, this festival giving testimony to the resilience of the species that made up the colony. They'd come far from what Myk could tell. He wondered if their minds were as care free as they claimed to be, if there truly wasn't a concern.
Myker remained standing off to the side for the moment, he perpetual scowl ever on his features although he was relaxed. Far more relaxed than he had been since his arrival on the USS Mac. If there was one thing Myk could appreciate it was the gentle hum of activity, people talking, calling to each other...yelling for some reason or another. It was a warm, welcoming sort of hum that rarely was noticed when you were right within the grips of it. Nothing rang quiet like folks working together to create something better than before.

Perhaps it was about time for them to actually start enjoying themselves. After all, it was a party. Thea then asked Isaiah if he cared to join her in a dance. The science officer smiled. "Well, I--" he had begun, but noticed Jovireh Velal moving towards them. He was relieved when she stated that everything looked clean thus far. He had to give the woman credit for always being thorough in her job. If something was afoot like last time, he had confidence that she would have discovered something by now. She stated that probably after another half hour she'd be able to relax. "Only a half-hour, Chief?" he said. He purposely made mention of her new rank via her latest promotion. Having worked with her as much as he had, Isaiah could say that it was long overdue. "I hope you do take the opportunity to enjoy yourself in... twenty-nine minutes. You've earned it."

But she righted the ship. "Come come come come come." Kova Sh'qaleq , cc Charlie Fox [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Main Thoroughfare, Serenity] The loud outburst of her name told the Andorian that her attempt to fade into the background had failed. Granted, it was likely to be a chore being among the few blue-skinned people presently on the planet. It didn't take her long to see that the rather loud outburst had come from such a small source, the Trill, Kaya Som. That was shortly followed by an unexpected chant of her name. It was as clear as day that all of these people had clearly reached their alcohol saturation points, though it was unlikely that any of them planned to stop there. The Andorian thought she'd make a quick exit, but soon found Kaya had somehow managed to make it over to intercept her in the midst of her departure. She instructed Kova to get over herself and join them to have some beer. "I'm not hot. I'm... comfortable," Kova said, though not entirely following Kaya's train of thought or this need to rename her. "Besides... haven't you had enough of this wheat beer?"Kaya for some reason seemed quite consumed with this notion of the beer being made of wheat. Kova for the life of her couldn't understand why. Though, despite the Trill's inebriated state, she still appeared quite observant, pointed out Charlie. Kova's eyes tried to follow the Trill, and could see that she too seemed to be enjoying herself here on Serenity. It still puzzled the Andorian how they were all able to just move on. She didn't have long to muse as Kaya again renewed her attempt to lure Kova to the beer. "You will not accept 'no' for an answer, will you?" Kova asked. She didn't wait very long for an answer before relenting. "Very well," she said. "One mug of this wheat beer." Kova assumed one mug of the stuff would be sufficient. While she didn't know where its alcoholic potency exactly, she was confident her Andorian physiology would fair better than Kaya's Trill physiology. Perhaps if she were joined her metabolic rate would be a bit more comparable to Kaya's. Biology was hardly her field of expertise, but she trusted her estimation of the variations.

[Lt. Shavan Th’zhaar - Main Thoroughfare, Serenity] Shavan would’ve been perfectly fine with never going back to Serenity again, and the prospect of the Harvest Festival had done little to change that. And yet, here they all were, and a celebration was a celebration, wasn’t it? Naturally, he gravitated towards where things seemed to be the liveliest… or at least where there was plenty to drink. Walking unhurriedly down the street, he approached the beer garden tent, and waved to Kova and Kaya Som when he noticed them inside. But before going in, Shavan caught sight of Charlie walking by, and instead turned towards her with a friendly smile. “Up to anything interesting?” If anyone was going to discover if the colony had anything interesting to offer, beyond the obvious ‘attractions’, it would probably be her. tag Charlie Fox , soft tag Kaya Som Kova Sh'qaleq

[ Chief Engineer Kaya Som, Taron Lars (bio) | Beer tent along the main thoroughfare ]"Yiss," Kaya hissed when Kova reluctantly acquiesed, then escorted the flight risk back into the tent where they were both greeted by a farmer-strong cheer of welcome and delight. Truly, the Serenity farmers had as much reason to celebrate this harvest of any ever before. Their community had been liberated. Any visitor should be folded into their joy and relief. Once at the table, Kaya quickly introduced them all with about eighty percent accuracy. She presented Kova more formally as well. "Kova Sh'qaleq. Traveler." Taron himself poured Kova her cup. They were dark in color and heavy, but on closer inspection they were made of a dark opaque glass, not metal or stone. "Welcome, Kova," he said in a deep voice, smiling under his beard. His dark Betazoid eyes did not pry into the Andorian's head. "Hand-blown glass made with iron slag and sulphur. We call this beer, eh, oencha which means 'golden'.""It's made of wheat," Kaya piped in, having heard Taron's speech already. Her elementary observation was met with laughter. Even after months learning about agricultural engineering it remained clear how little farm-time Kaya had grown up with. Taron laughed too. "I can tell you like to keep your head, Kova. It's only five and a half percent alcohol by volume," Taron added more quietly. "So enjoy yourself."Kaya certainly was, and eager to include Kova. "There's a song," she said and began to explain. [ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Town Square - Serenity] Left Ear had had to gather a good amount of courage to return to the Serenity colony. She'd spent the first little while jerking her head around at every odd sound, her ears and nose twitching madly as she tried to catalog all of the sights and sounds. They hadn't been required to wear uniforms, but the cadet had gotten used to how much easier it was to carry her things that way than in a satchel, and gave her a place to keep a combadge. Instead of her cadet colors, though, Left Ear had replicated a harness with a bright flowered pattern in blue, orange and green, with the attached pouches in the same design. It allowed her to carry a tricorder, medkit, a couple of usefuls, a knife and a snack and still drop to all fours for running or climbing or fighting. After awhile, the Sivaoan started to relax as the joy and excitement of the locals breached her nerves. Left Ear was still extra-vigilant, but she began drifting around the square to examine all of the games and wares, giving the beer tent a wide berth, a wrinkled nose and a sneeze. She'd spent long time watching the serenite blowers. She planned to buy a piece before returning to the ship. She also tried every kind of food that was on offer, having to take a few moments behind a tree to clean powdered sugar from her fur after eating a donut. Now Left Ear wandered and watched people as she munched on some sort of meat-on-a-stick. She noticed one of the Mac's crew members standing off by himself at the edge of the crowds and sidled over. She didn't know him, but recognized his face from looking through the crews medical files. Unsure whether Vulbrix was deliberately avoiding people, Left Ear stopped a few feet away and raised her tail within his line of sight, waving the tip slightly in greeting. ' Hello,' she said casually. ' I'm Left Ear to-Ennien.' She knew his name already, but had learned this song and dance of greetings from observation over the last year. Tag Myker Vulbrix
