[ Taron Lars (bio) | Caves ]Myker's verbal response caught Taron off-guard. He for a moment thought he'd been mistaken, that the man was not a Betazoid after all, but of course he was - they knew their own kind. It was unusual, but there wasn't time to dwell on the odd behavior. Such things were known to happen. Taron voiced his question again. "You're with Starfleet," Taron said in his deep voice, worry in his tone. "Are you in communication with --?" Taron was interrupted by full-throated screaming. He turned to look and saw a human in a full-out sprint for the doors. She would very nearly collide with them if they didn't move. Taron acted quickly to disrupt her panicked and ultimately self-destructive vector. With a long strong arm, he reached out and swept her around, redirecting her momentum for a few lengthy steps. It was meant to be just enough to pause her progress. "Easy, easy," he said with his voice even as he projected a calming plea into her head. "Not that way, it's not safe." He saw now she must also be with the ship. Myker Vulbrix Veronica Li [ENS Veronica "Ronnie" Li - Caves - Serenity Colony] Despite her lack of fitness Ronnie still stood 5'7" tall and weighed in at no less than 134 pounds. A big girl, broad shouldered and as scared as she was she had quite a bit of fight in her. She struggled mightily against the man's grasp. Her body was on autopilot, still going through the motions of running even though she was being held firmly. The artist's mind was a blur as panicked words erupted nonstop from her mouth. When Ronnie finally realized that she was being restrained she collapsed into the arms of whoever was, an animal sounding, high pitched whine escaping her clenched lips. She had already exhausted her compliment of tears, but they still stained her face, along with sweat and dust from the rocks around them as well as caked on dirt from a nasty fall she had taken. Helplessly, she flailed against the man, trying halfheartedly to break free, but her poor fitness and physical and emotional exhaustion precluded that. " P-p-p-please let me go," The artist begged in a stuttering, weak voice, eyes rolling wildly in her head until she finally looked up at the man. Tag: Kaya Som [ Myker Vulbrix - Caves, Serenity] Myker noted that the man seemed to be caught off guard by his voiced response, it was a reaction he had grown accustomed too. Unfortunately (or fortunately) they were in the middle of a crisis and didn't have time to dissect his unusual response. The man did however voice his question, Myker listened, and nodded about being with Starfleet. The man never finished as a scream caught the attention of both Myk and his fellow Betazoid. The scream came from one of their own, as in Starfleet, and the woman made a mad dash for the doors but was expertly wrangled by the other Betazoid. The woman was frantic and clearly in some kind of distress. Being restrained seemed to help only a little. Take a breath, slowly. Myker wanted to help and the woman really needed to calm down, the last thing they needed was for her to injure herself more than she already may have. It's okay Myk said gently, he knew it probably wasn't okay to the flailing woman, but it would do little good to find out the root of her panic while she was still somewhat unsettled. Myk remained calm, never frazzled by chaos, he knew not everyone managed to keep their cool and he didn't blame them. He felt nothing but sympathy, which of course remained tightly bound in his mind by his mental shielding. He could let his calm bleed into his stressed out crewmate but he figured she already had one Betazoid projecting things into her mind so he wouldn't, overwhelming her brain would be a terrible idea. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Caves, Serenity] He felt the pressure of her hand upon his loosen in that moment. Instinct forced him to cling tighter even as some forced propelled him forward. After colliding with the ground, his eyes moved towards Thea. Instantly, his eyes focused on the growing stain of blood on the back of her dress. "Thea? Thea!" he called out... or at least he tried to. He couldn't even hear the sound of his voice over the deafening thuds of his own heartbeat. It drummed rapidly, almost threatening to give out in fatigue as he ripped at the hem of her dress, looking for something to dress the wound and slow the bleeding. He quickly pulled of his sweater and draped it over her upper body after turning her over so that he could lift her into his arms. It may have been less than a minute, but it felt like an eternity, especially as hell continued to rain down upon them. The caves. He knew that's where he needed to go. Where help would be for Thea. His eyes searched frantically, and he could see a few others racing in one particular direction out of town. He followed suit. Along the way, his focus was only reaching his destination. He passed by lifeless bodies along the away... burning debris. Yet, none of that mattered. At least not now. As he made it into the caves, it felt like a maze of people as he searched for a collection of wounded. It almost felt like that was all that was there. His eyes didn't register any familiar faces... at least not right away. Mara... and Left Ear. He moved towards the pair of them, knowing that they were likely Thea's best chance. "Over here!" he called out as he set Thea down for what would serve as an examination area. "She was hit by debris... lower abdominal region... anterior," Isaiah called out, trying to give as much information as he could. "I... I don't know if there's debris inside or if it went through. Blood... there was a lot of blood." A heavy sigh left his lips. He wanted to stay there... to hold her hand. To tell her every three seconds that she was going to be just fine, but he knew what was coming. He'd seen Thea do it far too often. He'd be asked to step aside... to move out of the way so that her injuries could be tended. His hand reached down to push aside a strand of her hair as he leaned over to kiss her forehead. "I love you." As he stood up, his eyes stared at Thea's even as he held her hand a few seconds longer, until he felt that impending reminder for him to step aside was coming. He was smiling as he took a few steps back. Though, the smile was for her... for Thea. Right now, he just wanted to be there for her. And in that moment, he cursed that damned promotion he'd just gotten, because with her right now was the last place he needed to be. As he exhaled, he could feel the shakiness of his breathing. He took another breath, in... and out... attempting to steady his breathing... his pulse... himself. His eyes looked around, and he could eventually see certain people gathering in an area, likely a makeshift command post. He knew that was where he was supposed to be. He told himself that was where Thea would expect him to be. He had hoped that would be enough to get his legs moving, but it was the thought that she'd be over there shortly that finally prompted him. "Report," Isaiah said as he moved closer to those that had gathered there. Niles appeared to have been there for a while, but others were beginning to coalesce as well. Shavan was there. His eyes were also searching for other's he'd seen earlier or knew were on the planet: Velal? Kaya? His mind was nowhere near strategy... at least not yet. He was simply hoping that the rest of their people were okay... as well as the colonists. Then, they could worry about next steps after a general status had been determined, and as well as if anyone had managed to contact the Mac.

[ Mara - Makeshift Hospital] Being amongst the injured and dying took Mara back to the Breen attack on Earth. However this time she wasn't a medical trainee and had to push aside the horrific memories in order to focus on helping her people. Death hung in the air, the smells clawing at her nose and throat but the Administrator perservered as her, the other medics and volunteers began to triage those who had either been brought here or had managed to reach the hospital unaided. Some were patched up and sent on their way whilst others were either prepped for surgery or made comfortable until the darkness claimed them permanently. Grief would have to wait as prayers were said before moving onto the next patient. It was during her assessment of Hendricks who Amira had brought in, that Mara covered in other people's blood realised that Left Ear had joined them. Appreciating the additional assistance as she was asked where she wanted the Sivaoan. Mara was about to answer when Isaiah rushed in with an injured Thea, her heart sinking upon seeing her friend and the blood that had spilled from her. This shouldn't of happened but Mara, had to just keep going. " We'll take good care of her" she said reassuringly as Isaiah shared a tender moment with his girlfriend before duty tore him away from her. " Left Ear, if you can see to Thea whilst I finish with Hendricks" she stated as calmly as she could, not wanting to let worry consume her. ************* [ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] Everything seemed to blur into one for Thea as excruciating pain coursed through her body. She had been aware of Isaiah and how he had gotten them to safety. However when met with the smells and deathly atmosphere inside the caves, Thea realised that she was contributing to it. The kiss to her forehead and Isaiah's affirmation of love, brought Thea back to the moment as other voices spoke and the Captain focused on the one she recognised as Mara who was addressing Left Ear. Trying to sit up and faltering, Thea managed to voice what she wanted to Left Ear. " Just do what you can to make me mobile again....." she pleaded through the pain. Of course she had an inkling of how severe she had been injured but perhaps it was just superficial as she needed to help the others.
soft tag Isaiah Quinn, Mara & Thea tags Left Ear to-Ennien [ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Makeshift Hospital] Before Mara could answer her, Commander Quinn entered the hospital supporting a bleeding Captain Baker. Left Ear was moving almost before Mara asked her to take care of Thea. She helped lay the doctor captain down and pressed Isaiah's wrist briefly with her tail as he left. ' Stay down,' Left Ear commanded as Thea tried to sit up, healer mode completely eclipsing the massive distinction in rank between them. The Sivaoan pulled free her tricorder and scanned Thea's side and back, clucking at the results. Stepping away for a moment, Left Ear pulled on a pair of long gloves that would keep her fur back and out of the way while she worked on her CO's open wounds. Moving back to the captain's side, she said, ' I'm going to have to remove a few pieces of shrapnel. They aren't too deep, but it might be painful. Do you want me to put you under? Or I can give you a strong painkiller, but you may still feel it.' Thea knew the options, but Left Ear also knew that the doctor might not be able to think clearly enough through her pain to remember them. Tag Thea BakerExit tag for Isaiah Quinn

[ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] The saying was often true about how Doctor's made the worst patients and in that moment Thea was living proof of that. The pain, the blood, all of it was telling her to stop whilst her brain had switched to command mode and the need to find her people and start getting answers. However when Left Ear commanded her to stay down, Thea wasn't going to fight it, realising that she had to and let Isaiah see to the planning and orders until she was more capable of leading her people on the surface. Lying back on the temporary bed, Thea grimaced at the effort she had made in her attempt. Regretting the action immediately as her hand made contact with more fresh blood. Allowing herself the teeniest of seconds to contemplate her situation before the Sivaoan cadet returned to her side. Upon hearing what Left Ear had found and what her options were. Thea felt no surprise and sifting through the brain fog made her choice. " The painkiller... I know I might feel it but it's my best option right now".It she needed to be put under and treated further once the danger had passed, then there wouldn't be any arguments from her. But for now she would just have to get on with it and hope it was enough.

[Town Square - Serenity]
Six ships led by Bravo pitched down just outside the Town Square, intent on adding to the carnage that they had created. Descending from their individual ships, a group gathered around their fearless Leader. Their instructions were clear and none of them wanted to hang around, despite the pleasure of watching Serenity burn. Skating their way around the fallen debris, raging fires and the dead. The planetside Raiders followed Bravo, weapons armed and set to kill.
Their goal was to infiltrate the hideout in the caves, kill those who had so far managed to escape and then the colony would be theirs. Although they were the type to do this by stealth and catch the unsuspecting colonists unawares, rather than give them the opportunity to fight back.
So rather than strike as one they would split up and conquer that way. Finding suitable vantage points and perfect places for detonators and other means to cause more destruction.
" Teams 1 and 2, split off and start your recon, Teams 3 and 4 follow suit, whilst the rest of you prepare for the frontal assault".
Acknowledgements received, it was time to continue the game.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Serenity - Caves]It started to get a little more clear as Charlie spoke. Not only was she having flashbacks... But she was remembering something her mind had previously blocked out. Syl wasn't sure what to say, so she continued to gently rub Charlie's back as she listened. Hearing the apology though, she shook her head, even though she was fairly certain the other woman couldn't see it, and lightly gripped her shoulder. "Hey... You don't need to apologize. It's not something you can be prepared for, or control." Syl knew there were a few things her own mind blocked out, and could only imagine how she'd handle it if those memories suddenly came flooding back. The fact that Charlie was even aware of her - and knew who she was - was testament to the other woman's strength.

Tag Left Ear to-Ennien [ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Makeshift Hospital] Left Ear nodded and loaded a hypo with the appropriate pain medication. She was familiar with Thea's file, so there was no need to check with her about allergies. After giving it a few moments to work, Left Ear gently rolled Thea onto her side so that she could see the whole wound. A quiet hiss escaped her. She couldn't believe Thea had been able to stay upright. Opening a sterile pack of tools, Left Ear pulled a hemostat and started carefully pulling bits of wood and stone from Thea's back. After getting all she could see, the healer set her tricorder behind Thea so she could use it to guide her to the deeper pieces. With a laser scalpel on its lowest setting, she set about carefully burning out the rest. Now came the more detailed bit. Parts of the wound were too deep to just use a dermal regenerator. She was going to have to do a little bit of knitting first. ' Let me know if it gets to be too much,' Left Ear said before switching to a vascular regenerator to repair Thea's broken blood vessels. [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Caves, Serenity] Shavan got to the makeshift command center just in time to listen to Niles report to Quinn. So they had made it, too. Having just arrived, and not learned anything on the way, he had little to add that was not already evident. Fortunately Jovireh soon joined them, and reported that the rest of the crew had made it. He noticed that she had a few minor injuries similar to his own, but said nothing. Now that he had a moment to process it, he could feel the sting of several deep gashes across his shoulder, along with a number of small scrapes and burns gained during the run through the besieged town. Nothing that needed attention; all of his focus was on the situation, and coming up with a strategy. So they were cut off from the Mac, but were still able to use communicators on the planet’s surface. He looked towards Marais, who would know the most about the colony’s defenses and the layout of the caves. “So what do we have for working defenses in here?” Joshua Niles Isaiah Quinn Jovireh Velal

{Quoted Posts} [ LT Joshua Niles - Command Post, Caves, Serenity Colony ]Now that he had access to a console, Niles had gotten to work seeking out information about what was going on. Sheriff Marais, on the other hand, looked like as though he was chomping at the bit and dying to get out there and actually do something much more practical than receive a litany of reports from the medical section and about the arrivals of stragglers and the myriad of other details that were involved with an emergency evacuation into some bolthole.
However, it did not mean there was much that one tactical officer could do. Normally, from that particular console and an quick uplink to the Mac, he could have access to every scrap of informatiotut instead, there was nothing. All that was available was a few seconds of logs from the colony's own space-based sensor net showing an indeterminate number of ships and some energy buildups, and then nothing as the whole band used for their subspace communications was jammed. And Niles was about to let out some frustration on the poor innocent console when Commander Quinn entered, seeking a report. "Sir, all communications out are jammed including the command and control and telemetry links to the system sensor net and weapons platforms. I have no idea how many ships are involved or who they are or what the situation looks like in space. All I can say is that whoever that is, they destroyed or bypassed our sensor net and patrols and that as of right now the best case scenario is that Mac is actively engaging them, which is why we have an enemy presence in atmosphere and that a call for reinforcements has been sent out, but I wouldn't bet on that."Well, that certainly was not a very informative report all right, and the situation was most certainly bleak. Now, with Lieutenant Shavan making his way into the command post, that was one more person accounted for... and this was when Niles noticed the blood on Quinn's clothes... but he decided against bringing up the Captain just now. If she wasn't here, she had a good reason not to be. "In the meantime, last I heard from Chief Velal was that she was assisting stragglers with the security detail and you and Lieutenant Th'zhaar are the first I've seen since I got here." [CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square --> Caves]It seemed to take forever to complete a thorough search for wounded, although Velal knew it was likely only a few minutes. When she made it back to the point she had started, she told the team to stay in the caves once they got there and she was on her way to join them. With a deep breath to steady herself, she left her cover at a sprint, and not a moment too soon. Another blast sent debris flying in all directions, and she was thrown to the ground by the force. Her body ached as she pushed herself slowly back to her feet. Some parts hurt worse than others, and she could see fresh green blood, but she didn't let herself look. Adrenaline was her friend, and it helped her continue running away from the destruction. Finally Jovireh made it into the caves, and only then did she stop long enough to take a count of her injuries. Her knee ached, but she could put weight on it. Her face had a few scrapes judging by the sting of her sweat on her forehead and cheek. Her left arm must have been sliced by the debris... There was a several-inch long laceration beneath her torn shirt. But it wasn't too deep, she could still function. Jovireh felt lucky. Making her way to where the senior officers had gathered, she gave a nod to each of them before turning her attention to Quinn. Baker was probably assisting with the wounded... "I'm the last one down, sir. The colonists had a few fatalities, but all of our people made it here." At least they could safely say there were no survivors still groundside. If a loved one wasn't in the caves, they were gone. [Town Square - Serenity] Six ships led by Bravo pitched down just outside the Town Square, intent on adding to the carnage that they had created. He looked at the pair of security officers as well as the sheriff. "Shavan's right. We need to make this cave defensible. That means accounting for any weapons we have on hand, and strategic posting of armed personnel around the entrance. Suggestions."Isaiah had a few basic in mind. Moving non-essential personnel away from the entrance, and establishing some sort of perimeter, but he also had people with tactical and combat experience at his disposal. It would be wise to hear what they had to offer before committing fully to any action. Time was of the essence, however, and he wanted to make the most of what little resources they had.

[ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] The gentle hiss of the hypospray felt like tiny icicles against her skin, before the painkiller started to take effect. Although it was helping to take the edge off, Thea could still feel some discomfort, especially when Left Ear gently rolled her onto her side. Not that it lasted long and Thea concentrated on anything and everything but the procedure. Isaiah mainly permeated her thoughts along with images of their last vacation on Gamma Vertis IV. A happy place filled with unforgettable memories that allowed Thea to focus on something pleasant. Not that she couldn't hear what was happening behind her or ignore Left Ear as the Sivaoan began to remove whatever shrapnel was embedded in her wound. Thea knew that she could of taken the easy way out by being put under but the painkillers were doing their job. Besides a few minutes of discomfort was nothing compared to some of the injuries that Mara and the others were dealing with. In fact she was only roused from her thoughts when Left Ear spoke to her and appreciated what was said. " I will, but so far I've only experienced some discomfort". She didn't mind being honest and besides she was in good hands with Left Ear who had definitely come a long way since their last visit to Serenity.

Tag: Shavan Th'zhaar , Joshua Niles , Jovireh Velal , others gathered nearby Speaking of the devil, there was the Chief. Well, no matter what Niles felt about her being groomed for the role of department head, his own failings notwithstanding, he was certainly glad to see her there, and reporting that the six-person detail they'd brought down with them were all in one piece. Hell, he'd been out in that bombardment for as little time as he could manage and it had been the kind of experience he was in no rush to repeat, but she had been out there, with the others, actively seeking out stragglers. That alone was impressive enough. However, the discussion, as Niles expected, shifted to the immediate defence of the caves, same as Quinn and Shavan. However, it was Sheriff Marais who spoke up, appropriately as this was his jurisdiction, and his bolthole as he showed a map of the cave system, with the various areas highlighted. "I've started training a militia, but they're not exactly Starfleet Security and roll-call isn't sorted out yet so I don't know how many I've got fit to fight. We got a decent small arms locker going; old-issue Starfleet hand phasers, couple of rifles, and some hand-to-hand weapons. Also got a few explosives rigged in the entrance tunnel. The only real door is at the main entrance, all other areas got some barricades they can wheel in to block the way."The older man spoke matter-of-factly. His dream plans called for truly modern small arms and real blast doors at every junction, but that just hadn't had a chance to happen; frankly, Serenity didn't have the industrial base or the funds to make that happen in the kind of time they had thus far, or even in less than five or ten years to get to where he would rather be. As it stood, he'd acquired his lot of small arms at a surplus auction for next to nothing, and he didn't have nearly as many as he would have liked in the first place; which meant that some locally-produced chemical explosive charges loaded with shrapnel and some hatchets and hammers taken right out of medieval history books was all he had on hand. But, in close quarters, they might be enough to tell. With that information at hand, Niles looked between the other officers, the Chief and the Sheriff. "We're short on numbers. I think we should gather up all current-issue phasers we have and give them to our non-Security people first, then the Chief and myself will arm ourselves and the Security detail from the small arms locker. Then make sure the Sheriff's deputies and his most reliable militia get first call with what's left and work our way down." That was, in the Lieutenant's mind, the most tactically sound course of action; Security was trained to figure out how to operate various small-arms worked on the fly, and while what they would find could be fairly recent Starfleet weapons, there was no real telling what they could be looking at until they would break open the small arms locker; that way, it would at least make sure that most if not all non-Security Starfleet personnel would be armed with their service weapon, and the most reliable fighters the colony had produced would be the ones with the most combat effectiveness. All in all, a plan meant to maximize the combat capabilities of what they had on hand. Then, he had to consider levels of expertise; he was no expert in close quarters combat, Velal was. Which made her a lot more valuable in the current situation than he was, really. In fact, he was pretty much expendable, so far as a combat leader went under these conditions. "I could take the Security detail, and when the raiders get past the outer doors and through the entrance shaft, we'll meet them in that open area. We can put the deputies and some militia to guard the non-combatants and the medical bay, and I'd suggest Chief Velal remain here to monitor the situation and control a reserve made out of the remainder our people and the rest of the militia." As he spoke, he looked to the Chief. Perhaps she'd rather be in the thick of it, but she was visibly injured and she was their only real expert in that sort of fighting. Of course he had to qualify in ground combat, and as an officer he had to be able to do some defensive planning... but he damn well knew where the real expertise resided and who could formulate the best responses to a changing situation. "And we have Ensign Vulbrix here? We should put him to work trying to break through that jamming."

Tag Left Ear to-Ennien[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Makeshift Hospital] Left Ear was relieved that Thea was tolerating the treatment so well. She didn't have a good gauge of humans' pain tolerance - it seemed to vary so widely - and the healer had been worried that she was causing much distress. She moved on to a tissue regenerator, which took a few minutes to repair the damaged layers, so Left Ear patted the doctor captain's shoulder as she slowly waved the medical device back and forth and watched Thea's lifesigns on her tricorder. Finally, Left Ear switched to the dermal regenerator to take care of the top layers of skin. The procedure seemed to take forever, but the Sivaoan wouldn't shortchange her CO's treatment. Thea needed to be in as good a shape as possible to return to duty. Tag Thea Baker

{Quotes} [...] She had already exhausted her compliment of tears, but they still stained her face, along with sweat and dust from the rocks around them as well as caked on dirt from a nasty fall she had taken. [...] "Take a breath, slowly." Myker wanted to help and the woman really needed to calm down, the last thing they needed was for her to injure herself more than she already may have. "It's okay," Myk said gently, he knew it probably wasn't okay to the flailing woman, but it would do little good to find out the root of her panic while she was still somewhat unsettled. [ Taron Lars (bio) | Caves, near the entrance ]Taron had held onto the woman no longer than had been necessary to keep her running off and when she pleaded to be released, he'd raised his hands a little in placation. Her emotions were big and raw, overwhelmingly panicked and he could feel her mind was in a different time. He'd seen it before and felt badly for her. Myker (although Taron did not know his name) on the other hand, gave off nothing Taron could now sense. Another way to react to this. "You're safer here, for now," he said and continued to project a feeling of security and space. "I'm called Taron. What's your name? Shall we go find your friends? Perhaps some water? I'm certain you'll be needed."Sometimes that helped, to remind someone they had a purpose beyond responding to peril. He glanced to the Silent One for support. Myker Vulbrix, Veronica Li

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Caves]Jovireh was glad none of the officers tried to tell her to seek treatment for her wounds. There were plenty of people who needed the doctors' attention more than her. She listened as they and the sheriff discussed ground defenses, wishing she had had more strategic training with Taggert before this. But some things were common sense when you had experience in ground combat, and she shook her head when it was suggested she stay back in the heart of the caves. "We need to make sure there's only one way for them to get in. Now. If we get flanked, we're all dead. " She stated first, referring to the barricades the sheriff had mentioned. If he could get his people working on moving those into place immediately, it would significantly reduce their chances of being surprised. "Force them to funnel themselves down a single cavern, and we can pick them off as they come in." Especially if there were places a few of their best marksmen could hide to ambush the attackers. Taking the fight out into the open was reckless, especially with those ships still in the air.

{Quoted Posts} [ SCPO Kaya Som | The Caves ]"Yeah," Kaya answered Kova, now better attending the actual details of the space and the people in it. She let out another long breath, trying (in vain) to clear her head. "Bit potted, but fine. Urp." Kaya swallowed a hiccup. She went to take another sip of the beer in her hand, but truly noticed it this time and pulled it back. She glanced at Kova who Kaya had to assume had held off on some typically deadpan Andorian commentary on the subject. There wasn't exactly a side table to set the thing down, so Kaya crossed her arms and held it awkwardly. "I should probably make some effort to Engineer something," Kaya said but didn't move yet. The ground rumbled again, the barrage still on outside. She pivoted but couldn't see out the entrance with all the people in the way. She narrowed her eyes and sort of scowled, put off. "What the hell is even happening? It's not Baker's old boyfriend again is it? Counseling. Honestly." [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Caves, Serenity]
Isaiah slowly exhaled as Niles reported quite eloquently what little they knew. He even wrapped all that nothing in a lovely bow of hope that the Mac was in orbit putting up some sort of resistance, but the tactical officer was right in his statement that that was something that they couldn't count on. He nodded, and quite aptly Velal stepped up and gave a report of her own. He listened as she explained that their people were all accounted for, and that there had been some colonial casualties. Isaiah nodded as he digested her report, but the thin lines of green upon her face had not gone unnoticed. There was a part of him that wanted to have her ushered off to their makeshift medical ward, but with her still on her feet... this is where he needed her. "Very well," Isaiah said. "Whoever these people are... they're certainly not done. The next logical step in this assault is likely to be on the ground. That's what we need to prepare for." He looked at the pair of security officers as well as the sheriff. [ LT Joshua Niles - Command Post, Caves, Serenity Colony ]Speaking of the devil, there was the Chief.
"And we have Ensign Vulbrix here? We should put him to work trying to break through that jamming." [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Caves, Serenity] Perhaps it was for moments like this that Starfleet boasted the value of synthehol, and being able to simply shake off its intoxicating effects on a whim. It didn't appear that Kaya was having the same amount of success, despite the fact that the beer had been made from wheat. The Andorian called no attention to it, taking the Trill at her word when she said that she was fine. Kaya took another sip and crossed her arms with the beer still in hand, as it appeared there was no decent place to set her beverage aside. The young Trill clearly had no plans of letting any of the (wheat) beer go to waste. She mentioned that perhaps it was time that she started engineering something. The rumble could be felt from the ground itself. Their assailants were still at it. "Perhaps," Kova agreed. "Unless you're content to let them decide your fate alone." The Starfleet thing to do was to simply take orders. Of course, Kova wasn't in Starfleet, and she wasn't comfortable at all with others deciding her fate without even a so-so. Kova's attention was torn from the group that consisted of Baker's boy-toy, Shavan, Niles, Velal and this local Sherriff. She turned in Kaya's direction as she mentioned something about Baker's ex possibly being involved. "I have no idea, but if she has an ex that would go to these lengths... she should swear off dating completely." Kova turned back towards those that had gathered and took a few steps further, so that she just make out what they were saying. She could hear the tail end of their plotting and planning. Personally, it sounded as if they were in over their heads, as she stood there, crossing her arms.

[ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] Her body may be starting to protest over having to stay in the same position for longer than normal. However Thea ignored it as Left Ear continued to repair the damage caused by whatever had hit her. Of course Thea had blotted out that particular memory, the minute that the fiery debris had struck. Her pain threshold had well and truly been tested after that and doubted that she would ever fully remember the events. If she did, then it would come later once the adrenaline and everything else had worn off. Not that it would diminish anytime soon as they still had to deal with whoever had caused this misery and destruction. She could easily imagine what Isaiah and the others were doing at this moment, planning, strategising and ensuring that no one else died. As eager as she was to get to them, it wouldn't be wise to undo everything that Left Ear was doing to make sure that she could. " How bad was it?" she asked more out of wanting to understand and confirm what she thought. As well as giving her something else to take her mind off the discomfort.
