[ NPC - Cpl Bolton Ramius - NSS Soteria -> Promenade, Front Ear Station ]Being told there was no place for him in Starfleet had sent Bolton Ramius looking elsewhere for a military career. But then again, it was probably a good thing Starfleet hadn't wanted him; they were too damned soft. Too many rules, so much emphasis on peaceful resolution rather than just break heads where it was needed. He had thought of going pirate, but that was a good way to have Starfleet up your ass real fast... or worse, the Cardassians or the Klingon. So, it left going mercenary... and the Nyberrite Alliance had been recruiting. But, as it turned out, they had rules too. Rules up the wazoo. Hell, more often than not they weren't even acting like real mercenaries, more worried bout contracts and legalities and accounting than anything else. So when the word came that they were going to remain at spacegoing watches after tying up to that starbase, one Corporal Ramius managed to... convince someone else to take his watch, which would grant him a lovely, lovely twenty four hours of liberty time. And, there had been no explicit orders against going ashore, just the expectation that people would be showing up for their watches; and if Smithy screwed him, Smithy would have a really, really bad day... So, he made his way out the airlock, and started seeking out somewhere to get a drink, and maybe satisfy other appetites while he was there.

[NPC - Commodore (Reserves) Calvin Perry - Sickbay, Front Ear Station]After having spent so long - he wasn't sure how long - in a state of flux, uncertain of anything beyond the day-to-day, Calvin was relieved to be back on Front Ear Station. After what was just a few months of service, it never quite felt like his station, but it was still a familiar place, with some familiar faces. The Nyberrites were awfully tight-lipped, but he understood that Judy and Thea were running the show at the moment - fine choices both. Now, as he materialized on a biobed, he almost felt at home. "Hello."His injuries - some damage to the brain, legs, and lungs - had healed well, a sign he'd received treatment. However, perhaps inevitably, some damage remained. [NPC - Lieutenant (j.g.) Yvonna Teller-Wright - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] Was it the luck of the draw or the curse of the damned? Yvonna wasn't entirely certain. All she knew was that the request for a counselor to report to Sickbay had come in from Lt. Commander Quinn, and apparently it was her number that was up. It wasn't as if she had been blindsided by this. The counselors had been made aware of Commodore Perry's return to the station by the Nyberrite Alliance. Of course, if Perry's issue wasn't a complicated one, the fact that the Nyberrite Alliance was involved was an emotional minefield. Tensions were easily at an all-time high. Yvonna didn't understand it, but she was confident that she'd find out why soon enough. As she stepped into Sickbay, her progression came to an immediate halt at the sight of the more unexpected occupants in the room. The first was the towering Breen. In the wake of the Dominion War, that clearly wasn't a sight most people expected to see. The other, sight was the sign of a Brikar, wearing a Nyberrite uniform. Quickly composing herself, Yvonna skirted about the room, her eyes attempting to settle on Commodore Perry, even as Doctor Paawin attempted to assess his condition. Yvonna waited patiently, not wanting to intrude. The commodore's physical health was the immediate concern for the moment.
Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] There was still a part of Quinn that expected to see Thea when the doors of Sickbay hissed open. However, those days were in the past for the most part. His expectations were quickly settled as he could see that the security team had already arrived along with Lieutenant (j.g.) Teller-Wright, the counselor. Of course, they weren't the only ones there. The Nyberrite Alliance had arrived as well, with Commodore Perry. It seemed they had come with a security contingent of their own. A long breath slipped from Isaiah's lips, hoping that calmer heads would prevail for the time being. Doctor Paawin, Riyo, was already beginning to check in with the commodore. Isaiah didn't want to interfere, but he thought it best to make his presence known now, rather than blend with the background. "I agree, it's good to have you back, sir," Quinn said stepping into view. He then turned his attention to the Nyberrite officers. "I'm Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn, Chief Science officer and Acting X.O. of the station. On behalf of the Federation, I would like to extend our gratitude for returning Commodore Perry... home."He had opted for the diplomatic approach, though he wasn't certain how far it would get with either of the two ranking Nyberrite officers present. Quinn wasn't familiar with either of them. If he knew Vasser, he was certain that she had likely made it clear that any significant questions would be fielded by her personally. Still, it was worth a try. "We're lucky your people managed to locate him."

{Quoted Posts} [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Ops -> Captain Eastman's Office]"That's an apt assessment. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."Judy had full faith in Niles' superiors - Taggert and Velal - to take the necessary actions, if they hadn't already. She led the way into her office, with a fruit bowl taking the place of the usual pastries - perhaps the Captain had been too busy to bake, or perhaps she was sending a message. "We're going to have to keep up with rapidly changing facts here, while trying to learn whatever we can from people who almost definitely don't want to tell us anything. As counterintuitive as it may be, I don't think we'll get far by treating it as an interrogation," she said to those with her. [Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - Ops --> CO's Office]And just like that, they were here. The greeting was pleasant enough, but the Commander knew better than to let that color his anticipations. Taggert followed the Captain alongside Lt. Niles as they moved towards her office. Hearing Josh's suggestion for increased personnel, he nodded in agreement. "Already done. Velal has doubled the usual staff on the Promenade, and I have teams stationed both inside Sickbay and guarding the door." It was the best they could do to ensure the safety of both the Commodore and the station residents, without making it obvious they were expecting trouble. He picked up a piece of fruit from the bowl and listened as Judy spoke before he commented again. "Hopefully the Commodore will be more forthcoming than his rescuers." [Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Primary Sickbay]Riyo had spent the past hour ensuring everything was ready for the Commodore's arrival - and whatever condition he might be in. As the signal came to prepare for transport, and the security team entered, the Bajoran took a moment to collect himself. He didn't like having a security presence in Sickbay. It reminded him a little too much of the Occupation when such measures were necessary. But he understood the necessity for it now, considering how little information they'd received. Hearing the familiar hum of the transporter, he moved back into the main room, ignoring the people who had materialized with the Commodore, and focused his attention on the patient. "Welcome back, sir. How are you feeling?" The man certainly looked a lot better than the last time Riyo had seen him. Grabbing a tricorder, he began to run his own scans, fighting back the feeling that he was talking to a ghost. Col. Helena Vasser | Maj. Chromar | Alpha Sgt. Gorsk | Dr. Bel | Capt. Rez Jogann | 2nd Lt. Neema | | | | | | |
[Sickbay, Frontier Station ] The first sign of movement came in the form of a Bajoran doctor wearing a Starfleet uniform. He seemed to readily ignore everyone present with the exception of Commodore Perry. Rez hardly took any sort of offense to this. In fact, it was what he had come to expect from the people he met in that uniform. Somehow, they registered themselves... better. It was whatever it was. Once the official transfer of the patient was complete, they could be on their way. Rez noticed the security team that was present. Again... that didn't perturb him in the least. Nor did the arrival of the woman or the man that eventually followed, identifying himself as the Acting Executive Officer. "Captain Rez Jogann," the Brikar identified himself. "I am the ranking security officer aboard the Soteria. The safe return of your Commodore Perry has been my primary objective since we disembarked from Sigma-4. This is Dr. Bel, he has been his Perry's caregiver on our journey here."Dr. Bell reached into his kit and produced a PADD. He held it out towards Riyo, as he began to speak, his mechanical translator conveying his native tongue into basic. "These are the medical records that track his treatment from just prior to our departure from Sigma-4," Bel said. He had no idea if the doctor would be interested in the information, but it was all that he had to offer the doctor. If the Bajoran chose to work completely in the dark, then that was upon him. The only thing Bel's report had to offer was treatment for deficiency in nutrients, dehydration, and a few ailments that wouldn't be foreign to Perry's Starfleet medical records from before his disappearance. "Are you prepared to officially receive Commodore Perry into your custody?" Jogann asked. In his opinion, it was time to move things alone. Starfleet was welcome to poke and prod the man all they cared to do... on their time.
[CO's Office, Frontier Station ] Vasser was used to the looks... the stares... the whispers. She had to admit, she held an appreciation for standing out. It had never been any fun to simply blend in with the crowd. That was, after all, how she managed to rise to the ranks and become a Captain in Starfleet. It was what led to her current position in the Alliance. Still, as they got closer to Judy's office, she couldn't help but feel that her ability to stand out made her more of a target than anything. As she reached the captain's office, she couldn't help but notice the absence of Mabel. Just how long had it been since she'd graced these doors. "Try not to antagonize the natives, Major," she warned. "We're giving them something they want... and they're going to want more." Her attention then shifted to Neema. "You're shadowing him. So, be a shadow... nothing more.""I recall our orders, Colonel," Chromar said simply. "You will have our unwavering support."The fact that Chromar had said that, made Vasser question it even more. Either way, she wasn't rattled by words... at least not Chromar's. She reached out to press the chime, alerting the occupants of the room to her presence. It was showtime!

[Blue Beta - Promenade] Given the nature of Jov's job and being used to Fleet life, Leanna was grateful for the opportunity to have lunch with her friend. So as Jov sat down and gave her order, Lea silently mused about how she had missed this. Although did appreciate the humour when Jov then joked about how Lea should be freaking out right now and how she would be a panicking wreck, if it was her agreeing to spend the rest of her life with one person. The answer was simple and one that Lea could give easily, knowing that her friend was happy for her. " You should of seen me, when Riyo told me that I was pregnant" Lea, quipped with a grin. " Freaking out, just about covers it until it finally sunk in and he managed to stop me panicking. As for spending the rest of my life with him.. I couldn't think of anything better, although we're going to wait until after the twins are born, before getting married".That had been a mutual decision, especially with how big she was getting and Lea wanted to enjoy the day, without worrying about pregnancy related issues and not fitting into anything.

[LCDR Tony Sleebaggo & LTJG Chloe Hudson - CO's Office]"I agree, Captain," Sleebaggo said as Eastman described it would be best not to act as though they were interrogating the Alliance. "No point accusing our allies of anything without evidence. They deserve the benefit of the doubt," he stated.
Beside him, Chloe rolled her eyes in frustration. The pompous git had no idea what he was talking about. Or perhaps he was hoping to defect when he inevitably was fired. Before she had a chance to say anything, the door chimed, presumebly it was the Colonel and her subordinates.

However, he was not sure if Commander Taggert or Chief Velal knew of what had happened at those war games, when they had infiltrated a saboteur aboard the Mac. So, he did feel compelled to point this out... that is until Sleebaggo himself chimed in, with the exact same sort of thing that had been proven dead wrong back on Arkaria. Just bloody lovely... and it would seem that his right-hand officer had the exact same kind of feelings about her boss than the Tactical officer harboured, judging by her attempt at making a visual inspection of the back of her skull. This was just about enough to make Josh regret pushing for being brought back to duty even in a limited fashion at this point, and he wound up taking a deep breath, for the threefold purpose of stilling his mind, coping with that arrogant and incompetent arse and help push through the entirely new instance of chronic pain he would have to get used to. Then, the door chimed. Lovely, no real time to prepare a strategy to get information out of the Nybberites... which also meant one Lieutenant Niles would have to shove his disgust of mercenaries into a deep, dark place, right alongside with just how much he despised Sleebaggo. Which meant he had just about no time to get his recommendation in "Captain, we can't look too trusting either; they're mercenaries, but not stupid."For, even as much as he reviled those who sold force for profit, he had to at least respect their cunning.

However, she'd always believed in leveraging different perspectives, even if it was only to make the adults in the room appear more reasonable. Niles, at the very least, could learn a thing or two.
"Let's see how it goes. Computer, open door." The door came open, and Judy, at the far end of the conference table, stood up. "Colonel, good morning. Thank you for bringing the Commodore back to us." There was no need to put Vasser on the defensive right away, and certainly no need for the Captain to be the one to do it. "Coffee?"

[ Avi Moz, Mott Moz | Her workshop, off the Promenade ]
The Bolian mechanic hurried into her narrow workshop and hauled down the heavy garage-style hanger door with a deafening slam. A little Bolian boy, no older than twelve emerged from the back sucking paste from some kind of tube.
"What's your problem?" he asked.
Avi had begun bolting the several locks on the big door as well as the smaller one next to it.
"Maybe we should warn Avi Moz," she began where she'd left off in her head. "Maybe ol' Avi would be interested to know. Oh, no, not our Avi, who's helped us out all those times at great personal risk, no she wouldn't want that!"
SLAM. She threw a massive spanner across the room.
The boy MOtt seemed unconcerned by the older woman's rage, clearly used to it. He leaned on a workbench and swung his legs.
"Warn you about what?" he asked, still slurping on the industrial lubricant. It was turning his teeth and tongue black, but he liked the bitter taste.
"That the fucking Nyberrites are docked!"
"What are Nyberrites?"
"You know what Nyberrites are - don't eat that." Avi snatched the tube away.
Mott whined, "it has vitamins and minerals...!"
Avi rounded on him to snap back and then thought better of getting into an argument over grease. Instead she held up a finger.
"I told you. The white uniforms, with the black? How you're supposed to come tell me if you ever see one? Right?"
Mott tipped back his head and nodded. "Oooh, right, them. You stole from them and now they're pissed at you and if they find you they'll take you away."
Avi snapped her fingers. "That's right. And now the station is crawling with them and no one - no one from Starfleet bothered to say anything. Pieces of shit."
Mott put his hand on his chin and nodded. "Hmm. That must be disappointing. What are you going to do? Are we going into exile?"
Avi furrowed her blue brow, her lip curled. "God, no." Where had Mott learned about exile? "I'm going to figure out why they're here."
Mott bounced up. "Let me do it! Let me do it. Let me do it. Please let me do it! I can figure it out."
He wasn't wrong. The kid had been raised in the markets of sunny Celladore, scamming visitors with all sorts of wily tactics and he only sometimes got caught. He could be pathetic, charming, enterprising, or cute - whatever the situation called for.
"Pleeaaaase...!"
"NO!" Avi moved very close to Mott and placed her calloused hand on the side of his still fuzzy head. "No. You are going to stay here. And do nothing."
Mott pulled away his face twisted in anger. "You never let me do anything! I'm not a little kid! I can do things! You're just scared! What about bolar tanulpa[fn]Bolian philosophy of strength in family[/fn], huh? What about family? Why are you like this! Why are you so mean!"
He flicked his ears with both fingers. [fn]Tantamount to the middle finger.[/fn]
Avi just growled and threw up her hands. The last thing she needed right now was dealing with a whining, irrational child. She disappeared into their quarters in the back and began rooting through her old clothes.
Sometime later, she emerged, transformed into the rough guise of an Alpha Centauri traveling monk. You know the kind, the ones that wear the dark robes with the plain white mask and always have blessings in the form of sachets of herbs and tiny vials of wine. The costume wasn't entirely accurate, but it would be enough to conceal her distinctly Bolian appearance.

[Matthew Harmon - Avi Moz's Workshop]The bastards had decided it was a good idea to keep Matt in the dark about the return of the ignoble Alliance to the station. Even Chloe, under strict orders from the Captain probably had declined to leak that very important piece of information. On one hand he was proud of her starting to not rely on him as much, but on the other hand now was not the time for such character growth. At least Mabel had the sense of looping him in this morning. Better late than never. While he was fairly confident if the Alliance was particularly keen on getting revenge on Avi they would have sent someone covertly to deal with her, it was still a potential risk to her with them back, so he was determined not to leave her in the dark like he had been. Carrying a bottle of whisky as an offering and wearing a simple and nondescript black long sleeve shirt, he entered her workshop to give her a heads up. "Avi!" he called out as there didn't seem to be any sign of her. "We need to talk!" There was still no sign of her but he did come across someone who looked like a smaller version of her. "Hello. Do you know where..." he wasn't sure what to say to the kid, was Avi his mum? He had no idea. It was possible but he wasn't sure. "Where Avi is? I need to talk to her urgently."

[ Mott Moz | Avi's workshop ]Mott was sitting on the workbench, legs crossed, hunched over a PADD, eating a thick white paste from a tub with a spoon. It was a kind of glue, not toxic (to Bolians). A human man let himself in after awhile. He was in a huff. Mott regarded him as he looked around stupidly. The normally cheerful Mott Moz was in an unusually surly mood having been just scolded and sidelined. "I can't tell you. You're a stranger," he said snidely. The man was not wearing a Nyberrite uniform but that didn't mean Mott had to help him, especially if he was here to help his mom who didn't need anyone's help, apparently. He stuck a spoonful of the white good into his mouth, smacking his lips loudly. "Want to buy a wrench or something, ochi? [fn]Bolian for 'old man'. Sometimes used affectionately, sometimes used disrespectfully, depending on context.[/fn] It's a thousand credits," he said coldly. Matthew Harmon

Maybe this child really was Avi's. He certainly reminded matt of her, disagreeable, suspicious, rude. He smiled as the kid spoke. "Does she know you're eating that?" he asked, looking towards the tube of glue or whatever it was that he was sucking on. He sat the whisky down on the workbench and indicating towards it. "I'm not a stranger to Avi. I've worked with her. I have a present for her. But I really need to speak to her as soon as possible to help her," he said slowly. "I take it she isn't here, and you've also indicated you know where she is. So I need you to help me help her. I'll buy one of those wrenches," he offered, aware of the absurd price. It didn't bother him, he was rich enough and happy to share the wealth with Avi...or her ward.

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - CO's Office]Taggert kept his expression neutral as the two other men in the room voiced their opinions on how the Captain should handle the situation. However, he rested a hand gently on Niles' shoulder; a silent reminder not to get drawn into another argument with Sleebaggo. Thankfully, there wasn't time for that, as the door chime alerted them to the Colonel's arrival. Sitting down in the chair next to him, he took another bite of the fruit in his hand, watching the exchange between the COs with casual interest.

Tag Jovireh Velal [NPC - Corporal Ted Paul - Blue Beta Bar & Grill, Front Ear StationTed found a bar, and there, he found two women - one pregnant, another in uniform. However, unlike some of his colleagues, he was a gentleman, not prone to hitting on random women. "Good morning, Starfleet!" he called out. "I'll have a brewski and your menu!"He pulled up a seat near the bar.
Tag Jovireh Velal , Leanna Mazal [CPO Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Blue Beta]"Oh good! That's plenty of time to back out if you happen to fall in love with someone else!" she continued her teasing. Honestly, Jov admired Leanna. She'd been a single mother of two when they met, and was not only a wonderful parent but also the successful owner of a popular restaurant. And she always seemed to have herself together, knowing exactly what she wanted and not letting anything get in her way. After she met Riyo, all of those traits only intensified, and now she was carrying two more babies and still managed to be holding herself together... Jovireh was pulled from her thoughts by a loud voice passing by, and she glanced over to see the man sitting near the bar. "And it begins..." Thankfully this man didn't seem to be interested in causing trouble, though his presence meant the Soteria had docked and her crew was on shore leave. It was only a matter of time before someone got rowdy.
