[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]
As the ships moved along the plotted course, the tremors began the moment they left the core. But this time they were prepared, and Syl slid her fingers along the panel in front of her to ride the turbulence rather than fight it. It didn't stop the shaking, but she didn't feel like the hull was going to shake apart around them. At least not yet. They hadn't reached the worst of it.
Part of her wished the other ship was being piloted by her older self... But that Syl had determined long ago she no longer had the reflexes necessary to compensate for problems. But she had trained their new pilot as best as she could under the circumstances... Hopefully it would be enough.
Syl kept a close eye on the readouts, making sure they stayed on course, that the engines were still at full power. In spite of the rising apprehension, she kept her body relaxed with steady breaths. They could do this...

[ SCPO Kaya Som, Lt. Severen | Sickbay ]
"All medical personnel, brace patients for inertial instability," said Vulcan doctor Lieutenant Severen. They were underway and if their path into the ellipse was any clue, they could surely expect similar turbulence. Severen themself moved to all but strap down a sedated patient who would not be able to do so herself.
In her recovery room, Kaya was able to hold of her own accord. She moved off the bed to brace against an interior wall according to protocol. Her counterpart had disappeared leaving her single again in a way she wondered if she'd ever resolve. She hadn't dared to ask if they'd see each other again. The ship began to shake. All she could do was ride it out and hope everyone down in Engineering didn't blow it.

[Felicity Ellis - Bridge, Prime!Mac]Moving away from the core was just as bumpy a ride as it had been going toward it, but somehow the effect was lessened with the amount of determination and focus that was emanating from the crew. They were doing it. They were going to get out... They were going to throw everything they had at it. A communication came in from Bremmer, but Felicity paid it no attention. They had rather more important issues to contend with, and so she left it up to Rin to deal with - or not. Beeps and pings were going off everywhere, indicating that they were close, and that their engines were managing the sheers. Once the exit point loomed she displayed it on the view screen for all to see. They watched as the other Mac deployed their modified phaser beam. Then together, they approached the spot the other crew had claimed weak enough to manipulate passage. As they neared, each ship suffered through massive interference, with people once again being flung from their stations. Tac I sparked and blew, and Felicity managed to step back in time to avoid another bad burn. All the while, there'd been a stream of communication from their allies. =/\= "Ellis to Mac!" Linus' voice was raised for the first time, and she could hear the emotion in it. "Push forward!" =/\= =/\= "Deploying maximum power to phaser stream, forward one quarter impulse!" =/\= A great shudder passed through the ship. =/\= "We've lost tethered shielding! We've been hit, it's a grav -" =/\= The end of the sentence cut off, and Felicity looked around the Bridge at her crew. "Can we help them!?" She knew the answer before she'd even asked. They didn't have the power for the modified phaser burst, that had been the other Mac's part of the mission. "Can we get joint shields back? What's their position?"Communications were cutting in and out, giving them a word here and there. Felicity glanced over toward Vulbrix, but she knew he would be doing all he could to keep the line open and stable. Then, an order. =/\= "We are off course, Mac. There isn't much time. You have to go through. You have to leave us..." =/\=

[ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Storage Bay Level 2, Deck 11, Prime!Mac ]Bremmer could tell what was going to happen; that was the norm with anyone who knew, or thought, they had a serious physical advantage on her: he would close in aggressively, try to end the fight quickly and brutally. Which meant she needed to gain space and time to either get her phaser in play or find another weapon. She had stood up to a Vulcan before, but it hadn't exactly been easy. So, as he lunged towards her she shifted her weight to the balls of her feet and raised her left arm to ward off the hand coming for the right side of her neck, and she was expecting to be ready to introduce her assailant to her brutal strength by sending him towards the nearest stack of storage containers... That was, until a phaser shrieked and the Vulcan dropped at her feet and tried to claw at her groggily... and a very naked Nork, one who looked somewhat worse for wear, came out from behind some crates and explained a few things that were, frankly, obvious... until he tossed a battered commbadge that was somehow adhering to his bare chest just as a call to beam back was made. And then, it all became quite clear. But, first things first, especially since she had just seen far more of the Ensign than she had ever wanted to, Bremmer transferred her commbadge from her jacket to her shirt before shrugging out of her outermost garment and tossing it to the naked Vulcan. And then she drew her phaser and kept it aimed at the Ensign's older counterpart as she took a few steps back. Now, given the way the day had been going, she found herself thinking that this was probably the single least weird thing she'd encountered so far... =A= "Bremmer to Bridge. The call for assistance to the Cargo Bay has been resolved. Mister Nork was assaulted by his counterpart, who stripped him and tried to pass for him, and is currently under control. I, huh, please advise with regards to the other Nork? Beam him to the brig, or back to the other Mac?"=A= Then, as she waited for an answer from those in charged, she turned her attention to the naked Vulcan, who hopefully would have covered up some by then. "Sir, ah, can you make your own way to Sickbay, or should I call for assistance?" [Prime!Nork - Storage Bay Level 2, Deck 11, Prime!Mac]Nork regarded his older self impassively, and then turned that stare on Petty Officer Bremmer. He watched as she took off part of her uniform and then threw it at him unceremoniously. He made no move to catch it, instead he just continued to stare as it smacked off his naked thigh and then fell to the ground. "It is not my size."How he was expected to wear that he had no idea; but then, humans were unreasonable. So too, it would appear, was his older self. Nork had a head injury, and also he had disappointment. He began to move away from Bremmer and the heap of Vulcan mess at her feet. "I am quite capable of seeing myself to Sickbay." Though the ship was banking dangerously, he somehow managed to make his way to the exit with minimal flail of limb and appendage. Behind him, his older self was coming to, and was reaching out a hand in a futile effort to stop him. "There are things you need to know, Nork..."But Nork did not agree. The storage bay doors closed on the departing image of his perky, pale bottom.

[ Mila - Bridge, Prime Mac] Her emotions didn't truly leave her as more farewells were exchanged between the new and old crew. Bittersweet as it was, Mila hoped that this wasn't final and that somehow both crews would make it out of the ellipse. As clued up as she was about temporal mechanics, she chose to believe in hope and the belief that they were supposed to continue forward and not become a memory. Maybe she was being an idealist but as each member of the other Mac apart from those who would be remaining, disappeared and reappeared on their ship. Mila watched their life signs closely as confirmation was received that transport had been successful. Then it was time to prepare themselves to execute the escape plan as several things then happened as Rin returned before Bremmer reported in from the Cargo Bay. It appeared as though they had an extra passenger and couldn't even begin to fathom why as her attention moved back to the readouts. Monitoring their progress seemed the logical thing to do, doing what she could to assist the other departments, watch for calls etc. Ending up on the floor when things took a turn for the unexpected as the other Mac got hit. Her heart seemed to leap into her chest at that point as she scrambled as best she could to get seated once more. " Looks like they're out of range" Mila stated, knowing that one of the others would confirm for definite, thanks to the sheer forces that were at play. Feeling helpless at not being able to do anything which only continued as they were told to leave them. To come this far and lose the other ship was too much to think about or comprehend and Mila didn't feel any shame in praying for a miracle. ************* [ Dr Marcus Harrison - Sickbay, Prime Mac] Since leaving Kaya to work and not overdo things, Marcus had spent the time checking on patients and staff, including those in the makeshift Sickbay in the repurposed Cargo Bay. Everything was running as smoothly as it could be due to the circumstances and when the call came through from the Bridge. Marcus then started to take steps to prevent any further injuries as Severen called out to brace patients for what was about to happen. Almost losing his footing as the ship shuddered whilst helping Nurse Spring secure a Caitian Ensign. Thankfully he managed to hold onto the bed rather than fall, before the doors opened to reveal a very naked Nork with a head injury. Steadying himself, Marcus made his way over to the Ops Officer and spoke to him. " Nork, let's get you to a bio bed and look at that head injury" he said gently, not put off in the slightest at the Vulcan's nakedness. No doubt there was a story behind it and besides Marcus was half Deltan so he often embraced what nature had gave him. The priority, however was getting the injury treated as he offered to help Nork to an available bed.

Myker’s attention shifted to the view screen when the exit point came into view for them to see. He looked at it, noticing how small it seemed in comparison to the vast expanse of the Ellipse. It was hard to comprehend that as their solution, that as their way out. Even as they neared freedom they’d suffer more loss and the ship jerked violently sending people flying out of their seats once again, consoles exploded in white hot flashes. Myker braced himself on his console not willing to gain another head injury. Myker was focused on his console as another violent tremor threw the ship around and the Mac battled to stay in once piece. Myker doubted without the extra shielding they’d have made it this far. True to form Myker didn’t pay attention when someone behind him was thrown into a nearby wall, or when someone else was tossed over their console. Myker was keeping his attention on his console and staying in touch with the other Mac. The communications between the two ships had been holding up fairly well but the Betazoid could see the channel deteriorating, he worked to accommodate for that, reconfiguring and boosting their signal as far as he could. He knew that things weren’t going according to plan on the other Mac, call it a hunch or the voice of the other Ellis coming through the comm somewhat more emotional and stressed than it had been before. As the situation spiralled for the other Mac, communications breaking down, snippets of the other crew interrupted by crackling and static or was becoming more evident that the other Mac was struggling. The communications dropped out suddenly Linus’ unfinished sentence hanging like a grey cloud over the Betazoid. He didn’t look at Felicity or Mila but confirmed the latter’s words. ”Mila is correct, they’re out of range...I’m doing what I can.” he noted, his attention exclusively focused on trying to reach the Mac. Myker watched the readings, the pings where each communication had come from, his composure remained in place as he watched his console. Felicity’s question about their position had Myker looking at her now, although his features remained neutral there was a sense of dread in the pit of his stomach. ”They’re not where they’re supposed to be.” He’d figured that one out pretty easily, contact should’ve been maintained right to the end, that had been the plan. The other Mac being out of range didn’t bode well. Then the order came through and that feeling of dread was shattered. Shattered by the sudden feeling of hopelessness, as the realisation set in that they may not get both Mac’s out of this. ”We can’t leave them.” Myker stated, a hint of desperation creeping into his tone. Leaving the behind may as well be a life sentence, they’d slowly live out their existence in the ellipse...with nothing. Likely insanity would take many of them, and then time would seal the fate of those who survived. Myker ran a hand down his face, feeling the distinct slick feeling of blood from his nose. His fingers coated in red confirmed that, no doubt the shaking and jarring of the ship worsening his already concussed mind ”There has to be something...” he said gently, the emotion from earlier gone as his mind switched gears to work and duty. He looked at his console again, maybe they couldn’t help the other Mac through... but they could give them freedom from what would be a long life in the Ellipse. Felicity Ellis and Bridge

[ Lt.JG. Rin Zakir - Bridge - USS Mac] When Ellis didn't move from Tac 1, Zak made himself comfortable at the station that earlier had been Bremmer's. He didn't blame her for wanting to see the readouts for herself. Chances are, she was far more experienced than him, so he didn't mind backing her up if need be. With the other Mac still sharing it's shields, the countdown to the big moment came and went, but not before he found out what had happened to Eliska. A call for assistance from the cargo bay, huh? It sounded as though Nork had gotten himself in some kind of trouble with his older self, but the situation appeared to have been resolved. She did have a team with her though, right? It seemed a dangerous situation to walk into without backup, but whatever had transpired it seemed as though that situation was now under control and they could worry more about the bigger problem. Realising that he had been left to deal with the call on what to do with the attacker, he knew that beaming him back to his own vessel would be impossible right now. Before he could remind her of this though, when once again various alarms began to sound, telling them that they were almost back into the hot zone! It was now or never. =/\= "This is Rin, we can't transport right now, can you sit tight until we reach the other side?" =/\= , he asked, the urgency of his voice matching what was about to transpire. =/\= "Hold on tight, it's about to get bumpy!" =/\= , he then told her, right before they reached the exit point and once again the ship began to shake violently. This time, his console decided not to spark, and he decided that maybe Tac 2 just liked him better. That, or he had a much better idea of what to expect, as he gripped tightly to it. Though perhaps redundant, he nonetheless continued to call out what he was seeing on the console, praying that the repairs and modifications by the other crew would be enough. For both ships and crews. His hopes were dashed though, as things quickly began to spiral out of control. Leave them? They couldn't leave them, not now, but did they have enough power to utilise a tractor beam? Would they even be in range? Panic struck him, just like he struck the console when more turbulence caused him to lose balance, but he shook his head to dismiss both that and the dull ache of what he hoped wasn't yet another injury. This wasn't the time to panic, in fact it was the worst thing they could do right now. He needed to focus, so he focusing on trying to find a viable solution. Surely they had compensated somehow for this kind of scenario? Could they even escape without the help of the other Mac? Think, think, think...

[Felicity Ellis - Bridge, Prime!Mac]No, this isn't happening."A tractor beam?" She asked aloud, her normally calm voice shrill to her ears. They're out of range."Transport!?"They're not where they're supposed to be. Felicity's eyes were then glued to the viewscreen. The beam had stopped, and their window was closing. She moved, slowly but with purpose, toward the Communications Station. "Ensign." She swallowed, managing to tear her eyes from the sight for long enough to impart the order. "Release a communications beacon. To contain our data from the point when they returned to their ship, to right now. And a message."This is happening. Linus' voice was echoing through her mind. The panic. The force of his order. But his order did not matter to them at that moment. Hers did. And she was about to do something she might not ever get over. "Tell them we won't forget them. We will find a way."She turned and almost glided toward the centre chairs; her shoulders high and stiff, but her feet moving as if of their own accord. She needed to be seated for this. "Helm." There was a shake to her voice as she sat. "Forward. We're taking this window."Two crews; but only one was hers. Her duty was to them first and foremost. "Please, forgive me..." She whispered.

[Shavan Th’zhaar - Bridge, USS Mac]
Shavan gripped his console as they broke away from the core of the ellipse, clenching his jaw as the movement jarred his injured arm and more sparks flew.
The other Ic’s confession lingered in his mind, his reaction still a tear between you shouldn’t and I care about you too.
Amid the upheaval, he heard the communications from the other Mac. With them came more gut-wrenching news, and a hard call that had to follow. The barest hope for the future, found and paid for in an instant.
He saw through the readings on the screen the force of the shear that had torn them apart, knew what their ship was capable of… and what it wasn’t. There was no turning back, and the other Mac was off course, out of range. Like everyone else on the Bridge, he could find no solution. They couldn’t help them. As much as he hated all the implications of what they had to do, their best, their only slim chance to have a different future was to go on. Alone. “We have to do it.”
And it seemed Commander Ellis was thinking the same thing, because she gave the orders to continue forward.
He held on with as much determination as ever as they made their escape.

Tag Eliska Bremmer , Bridge Of course Nork would refuse something to cover up with. Hell, this was more of the Vulcan than she ever wanted to see, and there was no way in hell she could imbibe enough vodka to remove that notion from her brain while she was on the Mac and out and about. So, he had to go and decide to scar other people in the process. And, just to make things fun, there was Mister Rin, telling her to hang tight until they were out of the woods... that was until she warned him about an incoming bumpy ride... which was a good thing to know for when the ship lurched, she managed to keep her feet, though she did have to take several steps in order to remain standing. =A= "Acknowledged, Sir, I got things under control here for now."=A= With her report given, Bremmer found herself somewhere to sit down; if the way out was going to be anything like the way in, putting herself down was probably a good idea; after all, as she had told Syl, it was pretty hard to fall down from the the deck. However, she still had her phaser in hand, and a clear line of sight towards the would-be imposter. A man who was willing to abandon his younger self in order to secure his place on this version of the Mac... Which meant he hadn't expected his own ship to make it out, and that thought simply didn't sit well with Bremmer, not one bit. "Please, do try to get up," she fairly snarled at him, smiling nastily. Her phaser might be set to stun, but she certainly would enjoy putting him down for a nap given half a chance. Though, she fairly expected that a security detail would be sent her way once they would work their way clear... or it simply wouldn't matter if they didn't.

{Quoted Posts} [Cerjess Miren - USS Mac - Scapegoat Lounge]Cerjess nodded silently as Gates administered the tri-ox, before his gaze moved back to Kova at her suggestion. Of course... As much as he had tried to learn about Zyri's unique physiology, lower temperatures was something he always kept forgetting. "Thank you," he told her quietly. When the medic suggested moving her to the pantry the Trill felt a flicker of disgust and anger at the thought, but he pushed those feelings down, acknowledging it was the only way available to lower her temperature fast enough. Adjusting his position, he slid his arms beneath the unconscious girl, careful not to dislodge her mask as they moved her. Hopefully Ops would not decide to transport him until they had at least put her down safely... [Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - USS Mac - Scapegoat Lounge]The younger Trill did what he could with the osteoregenerator, and gave Rin an injection for the pain. "There you go. Fit to man a tactical station, but I don't recommend getting into a fist fight before you get seen by an actual doctor." Basic biology and anatomy classes could only do so much, after all. As he started putting the instruments back in the med kit, he glanced over his shoulder to see Gates and his future self still tending to the hybrid child. Hopefully she would be okay... "If we get out of this, I'll meet you at the Beta," he told Zak with a small grin. "If we don't, I'll meet you back here." Either way this turned out, he was sure there would be a lot of crewmembers in need of a strong drink. [Felicity Ellis - Bridge, Prime!Mac]Everyone was in place. Felicity herself did not move from Tactical I, despite the return of Rin. By rights she should have been down at the chairs, but at this stage she didn't see the point. She wanted to be able to react as she would if she was manning a console herself, and wanted to see the information first-hand as it came in. She had faith in her crew to do their jobs, but this was something she had to see for herself. With everyone working in admirable concert, they were soon matching the other Mac's speed. One shield had enveloped the two ships, one boosting and supporting the other. As they sped from the core of the ellipse and toward their exit point, their path became a hell of a lot less smooth. Felicity stared at the holographic numbers still floating over the centre of the Bridge as they counted down, hands gripping the sides of her console.
Tag: soft all. [Petty Officer Kellen Gates - Pantry, Scapegoat]Kellen Gates did not hesitate. Once the other two announced their agreement and readiness he wasted no time in placing his interlaced hands beneath Zyri's head, ensuring that it would be kept as still as possible while being manually transported the short distance to the cooler room. There would be no argument and no sidebar, this girl would get what she needed in order to survive, no matter where that help came from. Once she was placed on the ground, Gatesy began checking the readings again, along with testing the temperature. "Eight degrees lower than the main common area," he muttered, though he was speaking mostly to Kova, whose idea it had been to lower the temperature. "Support her head, if you would."He fished out another vial, just as the ship began to pitch. They were once again fighting the sheers, it seemed. "That's. Just. Perfect." [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Pantry, Deck 10, USS Mac ] The temperature wasn't significantly cooler in Kova's opinion, but it was something. And given that Zyri was only half Andorian, perhaps it would have a more profound effect on the young one. Along with the others, Kova assisted the others in lowering Zyri to the ground. Once she was there, Gates first tested the temperature noting an eight degree temperature change. He then asked Kova to support Zyri's head. There was a part of the Andorian that was ready to object, alas, it was more practical for her to do so. The call for the rest of the crew to be transported back had been given. It was possible that Elder-Cerjess could be transported away at any moment. "Fine," Kova agreed, making her reluctance known. However, her eyes shifted over towards the elder scientist, her gaze someone softened as she recalled his earlier word of gratitude. Hopefully, he wouldn't make larger deal of her willingness to help than it had actually been. As Kova held the hybrid's head, she could feel some soft pressure cupping over one of her hands. Her eyes dipped down to Zyri, who seemed to be trying to mouth something... words that even the Andorian wasn't able to work out. And then, there came a shift once again. Instinct caused Kova to cradle the hybrid's head more securely, and lean over her to offer additional protection from additional degree. Gates commented on the timing of this, and Kova couldn't help but agree. This was just... perfect.
[NPC - Zyri Zh'raal, Scapegoat Lounge, Deck 10, USS Mac ] There was a heavy fog lingering over the hybrid. She couldn't bring herself to concentrate on a coherent thought. She simply knew that there was cold... and there was warmth as well. Perhaps it was instinct that caused her to reach for the source of warmth. She could feel it beneath her hand. And she found herself trying to speak. "H-home...." she muttered, though it was barely louder than a whisper. The single thought she'd begun to form began to disappear like sand through her fingers as the fog once again consumed her consciousness.

[Cerjess Miren - USS Mac - Scapegoat Lounge]With Kova agreeing to hold Zyri's head, Cerjess tried to stay out of Gates' way while still remaining close. They needed to get back to their other ship, he knew this... But his daughter was still not stable, and he sure as hell wasn't going anywhere without her. From the corner of his eye, he saw Kova look at him, but he didn't say anything more. There was nothing left to say. The cold seemed to be helping, as Zyri came to long enough to utter a word beneath her mask... As soon as she was stable, they would both be leaving and - His thoughts were cut off by the tremors of the ship becoming more violent, and he reached out to brace himself against the pantry. At least they were all close to the ground this time. Across the room, the younger Trill scientist continued his way around to check on the wounded and provide more assistance. It was all he could do to keep himself from panicking as the ship continued to shake.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]There was only so much the pilot could do to ride the turbulence as they moved farther from the core. She braced her hands against the console in front of her to keep herself in her seat, her gaze focused intently on the navigation screen to make sure they stayed on course. Suddenly the green blip on her screen indicating the other Mac flew out of view, and her heart sank low in her chest as the reports came in. If she moved off course to go retrieve them... They'd never make it back to the opening in time. An icy chill settled in her bones as she heard the order that she knew would come. "Aye ma'am. Staying the course." It was the right call. Save one crew, or lose both. Syl knew that. But her voice still sounded hollow and empty, betraying the war of emotions being waged beneath the surface of adrenaline and urgency. They had no choice.

[Ensign Ic Arbrell — Bridge, USS Mac]
Before he’d figured what he could possibly say, everything happened. And it didn’t.
The merciless shudder of the Mac masked the trembling of his insides. It did nothing, however, against the surge of cacophonous emotion— his on this ship, his on the other, and everyone else’s between the two. The Betazoid could hear so many separate sorrows, sudden knowing when the shielding failed; hopes shattered in the shade of broken harp strings, felt in broken bones. He could taste his own silent seething, a half-hysterical rage abroad, like the bitterness of medicine on the back of his tongue. His children, barely acknowledged and completely unknown, stood by somewhere apart like phantoms at the edge of a double oblivion.
It was the gentleness of the muddle beside him, a stirring from out of the soft blind spot he’d built over these past months even though he knew, that crushed him. That almost-laugh, an oscillating sensation that went in and out of being. The worst timing ever played as light in steady repeat, opposite dark wordless phrases overheard in the soul. He clenched his jaw, and was instantly reminded how much that hurt. Don't worry about me.
The shrilling of consoles played a simple rhythm beneath it all. As a hand fortified by distant urging tracked the readings on half a screen, Ic kept his present focus firm on a metronomic alarm.
(Across the false and growing divide, a desperate physicist watched through his younger eyes. He measured, calculating. He simmered, burned. They studied.)
There were many things that frightened Ic Arbrell. Open water. The awkward conversation he was about to avoid. Abandonment. Being “thrown in front of a shuttlecraft,” as the saying went. Targs. But nothing dropped the pit of his stomach like the feeling that somehow, he knew this was always going to happen.
Did that make it better or worse, easier or harder, to simply... leave?
The commander’s voice joined the tilting carousel then: We will find a way— worst timing ever— it's worth everything..
As the shear shrieked, Ic held on.

[Felicity Ellis - Ready Room, USS Mac] 36 Hours Later
"Acting Captain's Log -- Supplemental.
We are en route to Vorgon for emergency repairs. While our friends in the ellipse were generous with their assistance, the Mac has taken considerable damage and requires protracted attention. The crew are subdued - mourning. We have made it out and survived, but what we have left behind will weigh on our minds and souls for some time. There are mutterings about mounting a rescue, and I will admit, my voice is among them. What we have learned about this spatial phenomenon surpasses all previous experience, and it will provide data for studying for years to come. It is still unclear what the Admiralty plans to do; presently our only orders are to see to repairs and return to Front Ear.
We have lost 32 people, and gained three. Nork, Cerjess and Zyri remain with us. Their futures are uncertain, but I have given them my assurances that I will fight to ensure they are kept safe and made as whole as they possibly can be. Considering Mr. Nork's actions during our escape, he will likely be detained. Admiral Ellis has expressed an interest in speaking with him specifically, which might prove to be a saving grace for him.
Under normal circumstances my thoughts would be consumed by those of this crew that we have lost, and the loved ones they have left behind. However, this situation is far from normal, and I find myself preoccupied with our counterparts still trapped within Arbrell's Ellipse.
It is my fervent hope that we are allowed to return. I made a promise that I intend to keep.
-- End log."
