[Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Observation Lounge]It didn't take much to realize that Felicity had been hurt by something that had been said; the young woman excusing herself so suddenly was a giveaway. A quick inventory of the conversation led Judy to realize what the likely culprit was - she'd stuck her foot in her mouth with the statement about her big, happy family. "I'll bake her an apology cake later," she said to Thea, taking responsibility. "Now's probably not the time."Among the many benefits of emoting through pastries was the time buffer that it created.

Thea - Observation Lounge, Front Ear] Thea wasn't usually so candid or honest at least not in such a public place or with an Admiral on the other side of the room. However she had changed a lot since she had first arrived on Front Ear and if anything was more like what she should have been all along. Of course the main reason for that wasn't here at the moment but at the same time she couldn't just deny how she felt. Naturally she was concerned when Felicity then excused herself before draining the rest of her drink and moved away from the bar. At first Thea wondered if it was something she had said until Judy took responsibility. There was definite sympathy for the woman who had just left and agreed that any apology was cake worthy and that Felicity might need some time before that happened. " I agree, emotions are already high enough at the moment and I hope she's okay".

[Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Observation Lounge]"She's definitely not okay, but I think it'll do her good to get some space for a bit, away from all this," Judy replied. Some people processed their emotions better in solitude, others needed company, but no one needed Antoinette Ellis in the room. "It's surreal. You wake up one bright morning and realize that the organization you served for so many years has so totally lost all the values you loved about it." Judy had nursed an ideological disdain for the militarization of Starfleet, but the moral decay that had suddenly revealed itself in this past year was beyond even her most pessimistic perceptions.

[ Kaya Som ]"Bremmer," Kaya lifted her chin in greeting and shifted to make room in their circle. It was odd seeing so many of the castaways from the Old Mac all together in one place. There were hundreds of crew on the ship at any given time, so unless you shared duty or quarters, you could go weeks without encounters. See there, that was Cerjess Miren - the older one. Now there were two Trill on board who'd helped her to Sickbay that day, who'd seen the shard of bulkhead sticking out of her. Which one was she supposed to thank? It was hard to know. And over there, the Andorian Trill - a union one just didn't see in this galaxy, the obvious offspring of Kova Sh'qaleq and ... someone. There was a sort of unspoken rule among expatriot Trills to look out for each other, but Kaya hadn't fully fulfilled that obligation, at least not in terms of seeking out Kova's girl. Old Kaya might have smacked her for the laziness of it. Oh there, and now Kaya felt an ache too deep to heed. She put a smile on her face instead. "Nah, no kids that I know of. We didn't get that far into conversation before, you know." In fact, Kaya's older self had said very little about her fifty-seven years in the ellipse. "I can't imagine in though, having kids when you have no idea if you'd ever get out? Doing that to a kid...?" Kaya wasn't shy about sharing the opinion. [ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ]Though she had greeted her superiors, Eliska's eyes followed Syl and the Admiral for as long as she could. No, whatever Admiral Ellis wanted, it couldn't be good. Not when she knew the relationship the pilot had with her parents... and not in the way she'd bee summarily dismissed her. No, there was something more... could it have something to do with what Syl's counterpart had said, back in the Ellipse? Well, there was no way for the Petty Officer to know at this time. And like everything else, she would not be prying; if Syl wanted to share, she would in due course, on her own time. Though, when the conversation went towards children, Bremmer felt the need to speak. She hadn't given the whole thing much thought, but the memorial had a way to hurry those things along. "I died," she said softly. "And I still don't know if it was me me who died, or someone else. Can't wrap my head around it." After all, that second glass of vodka was really appealing right now, and she took a sip from it. "And I don't know how. I spoke to Sy... Ms O'Connell's alter-ego, but she wouldn't tell me how or when... This is just too much of a kick in the head for me." [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Observation Lounge] Shavan’s gaze lingered on the concerning sight of Syl and the Admiral a moment longer, before glancing back when Kaya shared her thoughts about having kids. As for bringing a child into the world… well, he felt similarly about doing so in this life. Though he was very aware that others present had made different choices in the ellipse. To each their own, then. Eliska almost echoed his earlier thoughts when she revealed that her counterpart had died. Apparently neither she nor Kaya had been possessed by the morbid curiosity to search the logs the other ship had sent in the intervening time. Though maybe there were some things it was better to not try to wrap your head around. And there were definitely some things that had to be dealt with alone. “Yeah. I died, too,” Shavan admitted quietly, then smiled and shrugged. “Ah, well. Here for a good time, not a long time, right?” He raised the glass to his lips again. Kaya Som Eliska Bremmer

[Observation Lounge - Front Ear] " No I don't think she is either and hopefully, I know it's not been easy lately" Thea admitted as she pondered over everything. Not that she really needed to tell Judy how things had seemed off for a while and only now could she really see it for what it was. It had become tainted and for Thea, she hoped that there could be change before it was too late. So when Judy spoke again, Thea knew exactly what she had meant as she herself had struggled lately with the decay that had appeared amongst the higher ups. " You're right it is surreal and I never thought it would happen but I honestly think that things need to change if it has any chance of survival".Of course they had no way to know if it would but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a back up plan and it just so happened that Thea had one.

[Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Observation Lounge]Judy sighed deeply. "We just have to find a path forward through it," she said. "You know, the reason I tried - well, until now, I guess - not to say these things, not to trash-talk the fleet, is that I think you two can still run this place with those values. I'd still be in that fight too, but I also have my family, especially Max, to be considerate of."In this case, Judy suspected living up to Starfleet's sacred values would involve some kind of end-run around the Admirals.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Front Ear - Observation Lounge]Syl resisted a sigh, knowing it was futile to continue trying to explain her reasons for walking out of the Holosuite that day. Some have your best interests at heart. Others don't. What reasons the Admiral could possibly have for wanting to see if Syl, in particular, remembered the mining process used by the Caldonians, she couldn't imagine. Nor could she imagine the older woman having ever been through a trauma herself to think for a moment such a thing would be so soon forgotten. As much as she wanted to accept the offer to end their agreement, Syl knew she would likely be accepting the end of her career by doing so. What a mess she had gotten herself into. So as Admiral Ellis turned back to her, she simply bowed her head slightly. "I'll do better, ma'am." Believing the rhetorical question to be a dismissal, she took a step away and looked around the room. She didn't want to be too obvious by heading straight for the bar - and Eliska - but that seemed to be where everyone else was congregating now that the eulogy was over.

[Observation Lounge - Front Ear] Thea took a thoughtful sip of her drink as she considered what Judy said next, sifting through her words as she envisaged each and every one of them. Understanding why she hadn't said much on the subject until now and her reasons for doing so. Thea lowered her glass as she responded to her friend. " I'm sure we will as I don't think we'll give up that easily not with what we've established here" she began, very much not wanting to see Front Ear or the Mac taken away from them all. They had worked hard to make it what it was now and yet Judy wasn't on her own when it came to those that were important. " As for me and Felicity we'll do our best as always, especially when it comes to the crew and those that call this place home. We all have important people to consider but you did the right thing for you and yours".

[Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Observation Lounge]"I know you two, I know where your hearts are, and I believe in you," Judy said succinctly, before giving Thea a brief hug. There wasn't much more to say, beyond that vote of confidence. "Now, I think I'll head out. You have your crew to tend to, after all."Judy still had her own job to return to, and that apology cake to bake.

Kaya Som Eliska Bremmer [ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ]There was no saving the second glass of vodka Eliska had initially procured at this point. It would seem that Mister Th'Zhaar had also suffered a grisly fate in the Ellipse, and both of them weren't entirely comfortable with the notion of their alter-egos not having made it... but also that neither was quite able to fathom the true enormity of such a situation. But then again, who really could understand those things? "And here's another one for you, Mister Th'Zhaar. I almost got my head caved in by the alternate Mister Nork, and it was our own, stark naked, who saved my ass. And there's really no two ways about that one, I wouldn't care to bet who'd come on top hand to hand between me and a pissed-off Vulcan." In between words, she finished the chilled glass of vodka. Though, she wasn't really there with the Lieutenant and the Chief. Her mind was really elsewhere, and when she saw Syl come back from where she'd been with the Admiral, she fairly flinched, ready to cross the room to go to her. But the only thing that stopped her was seeing Commander Ellis moving to intercept. What in the world was going on? But most importantly, was Syl all right? Wait, stupid question: by the set of her shoulders, the look on her face, she wasn't okay to Eliska's eyes... What had Admiral Ellis wanted with her?

[ Kaya Som | At the bar ]"Oof," Kaya replied, affected but unfased. This is what they talked about now, she supposed. Deaths on the other timeline, the nature of self, souls sliced across rivers of gravity. "This kind of thing never happened on the Centaur," (Kaya's previous posting). That was an understatement. She looked away for a moment, again checking out the admiral and the statue, and the chairs arranged around a podium. It could have been a promotion ceremony if not for all the furrowed brows and sad-drinking. "Can't help but feel this is their way saying the mission's over," she said thoughtfully. "Like, trying to wrap it up clean and neat so that no one asks anymore questions. I heard all the data's been packaged and sent off, even, what was tranferred from the Old Mac." It could be a rumor, sure. Kaya hadn't tried herself to see if she could find any information about her would-be self and her life in the ellipse. It just all felt wrong. [Admiral Antoinette Ellis & Felicity Ellis - Observation Lounge]Antoinette Ellis did not believe that Sylvia O'Connell would do better. She'd grown arrogant and complacent; lazy out here in the frontier with nobody keeping real tabs on her, or reminding her of her circumstances. It was not likely that the Admiral would get anything else of use out of her, and so she made a mental note to put in the transfer paperwork. A nice stint chauffeuring some fat politician back and forth in a puddle-jumper that can't leave atmosphere should do the trick. "What was that?" Her daughter asked, approaching with drink in hand as usual. "That's no way to greet your mother or a superior, Felicity. You were taught better than that," Antoinette intoned smoothly, before taking a dainty sip from her champagne flute. When Felicity did not respond, she sighed. "I was catching up with Ms. O'Connell. I know her family well, particularly her father.""Didn't look like a pleasant kind of catch up."Felicity's expression was growing darker with each passing second she was spending in Antoinette's company. In her eyes, if her mother's lips were moving, they were helping to weave some web of deceit that certainly would serve only one of them. "That's a baseless assumption, dear, and beneath your intelligence I would have thought.""Stay away from my people." She began to move off, but if she thought she'd get the last word in she was sorely mistaken. "Your people?" The Admiral chuckled, genuinely entertained. "It's time to leave behind childish things, Felicity."Felicity bit back a cutting remark, turned and walked away. She kept walking right out of the room. Two minutes later, a certain group of people would receive a private message to their personal devices.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Front Ear - Observation Lounge]When Commander Ellis intercepted Admiral Ellis, Syl took that distraction to disappear into the crowd and make her way to the bar. She found Eliska with Chief Som and Shavan, and greeted them all with a smile she hoped would tell them she was alright. Though that hope was likely defeated as she ordered a double shot of vodka and immediately slammed it back. Closing her eyes to savor the burn, her face contorted slightly against the taste, and she took a deep breath to calm her stomach. "My mom was in an accident at work," she said to explain why the Admiral had pulled her aside. "She'll be alright... But since the Admiral was here she wanted to let me know in case I don't hear from anyone for awhile." The lie flowed a little too easily from her tongue, remnant of a time when lies were a survival skill. Feeling her message pad vibrate, she welcomed the distraction and looked down at it. A small smile curled her lips when she read it. "Oh good, I have time for a proper drink."

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Observation Lounge] Shavan motioned for a third drink while Eliska shared a different near-death experience she had faced in the ellipse. Because if getting trapped in a rare spatial anomaly didn’t get you, regular flesh-and-blood killers still would. He raised the glass when it was poured. “Cheers to naked Vulcans, then.” And to never having a posting as boring as the Centaur. Of course, he hadn’t forgotten those who were still alive and trapped in the ellipse. His manner grew slightly more serious again as he considered what Kaya said next. Of the events in the ellipse being neatly wrapped up, as if this was it. He didn’t like that at all, but was hardly surprised. In fact… he may have already taken preemptive action. “If they did, it wasn’t every copy.” The vague admission was quiet. He took another drink. When Syl finally approached them, he waved her over, and gave a sympathetic smile. There was something that didn’t quite add up about Admiral Ellis being the one to deliver that news personally… but at the moment, Shavan chose not to pry. Especially as his attention was caught by a message on his communication device. A cryptic invitation from an unknown sender.. and it sounded like he was not the only one here who had received it. “Well, that’s interesting. I take it you're all going?” There was no doubt that he would be there. Eliska Bremmer Kaya Som Syl O'Connell

[Mila - Observation Lounge, Deck 11]
Returning to her seat after fetching another drink from the bar, Mila didn't waste any time in downing the shot in one. Feeling the alcohol burn her throat momentarily before the buzz kicked in and took away some of the numbness that had crept up on her. Contemplating whether she should of gotten more than one shot and wondering if she should go back for another. The decision was made for her when her personal device buzzed and alerted her to a message.
Taking out the device, Mila looked over the message and actually smiled, now this was more like it and gave her a reason to finally be able to leave without feeling guilty. Noting the names listed and not wanting to waste any time, Mila put the device away and made her way to the exit.
If she was going to meet everyone at the Alibi then a change of clothes was in order and it'll be good to let loose and wear something other than her restrictive dress uniform. It wouldn't take long and sure she was curious but for now her goal was to get to her favourite hangout with plenty of time to spare and not be late.
