{Quoted Post(s)} [ Kaya Som | At the bar ]"Oof," Kaya replied, affected but unfased. This is what they talked about now, she supposed. Deaths on the other timeline, the nature of self, souls sliced across rivers of gravity. "This kind of thing never happened on the Centaur," (Kaya's previous posting). That was an understatement. She looked away for a moment, again checking out the admiral and the statue, and the chairs arranged around a podium. It could have been a promotion ceremony if not for all the furrowed brows and sad-drinking. "Can't help but feel this is their way saying the mission's over," she said thoughtfully. "Like, trying to wrap it up clean and neat so that no one asks anymore questions. I heard all the data's been packaged and sent off, even, what was tranferred from the Old Mac." It could be a rumor, sure. Kaya hadn't tried herself to see if she could find any information about her would-be self and her life in the ellipse. It just all felt wrong. Shavan Th'zhaar , Eliska Bremmer [Admiral Antoinette Ellis & Felicity Ellis - Observation Lounge]Antoinette Ellis did not believe that Sylvia O'Connell would do better. She'd grown arrogant and complacent; lazy out here in the frontier with nobody keeping real tabs on her, or reminding her of her circumstances. It was not likely that the Admiral would get anything else of use out of her, and so she made a mental note to put in the transfer paperwork. A nice stint chauffeuring some fat politician back and forth in a puddle-jumper that can't leave atmosphere should do the trick. "What was that?" Her daughter asked, approaching with drink in hand as usual. "That's no way to greet your mother or a superior, Felicity. You were taught better than that," Antoinette intoned smoothly, before taking a dainty sip from her champagne flute. When Felicity did not respond, she sighed. "I was catching up with Ms. O'Connell. I know her family well, particularly her father.""Didn't look like a pleasant kind of catch up."Felicity's expression was growing darker with each passing second she was spending in Antoinette's company. In her eyes, if her mother's lips were moving, they were helping to weave some web of deceit that certainly would serve only one of them. "That's a baseless assumption, dear, and beneath your intelligence I would have thought.""Stay away from my people." She began to move off, but if she thought she'd get the last word in she was sorely mistaken. "Your people?" The Admiral chuckled, genuinely entertained. "It's time to leave behind childish things, Felicity."Felicity bit back a cutting remark, turned and walked away. She kept walking right out of the room. Two minutes later, a certain group of people would receive a private message to their personal devices.

JG Syl O'Connell - Front Ear - Observation Lounge]When Commander Ellis intercepted Admiral Ellis, Syl took that distraction to disappear into the crowd and make her way to the bar. She found Eliska with Chief Som and Shavan, and greeted them all with a smile she hoped would tell them she was alright. Though that hope was likely defeated as she ordered a double shot of vodka and immediately slammed it back. Closing her eyes to savor the burn, her face contorted slightly against the taste, and she took a deep breath to calm her stomach. "My mom was in an accident at work," she said to explain why the Admiral had pulled her aside. "She'll be alright... But since the Admiral was here she wanted to let me know in case I don't hear from anyone for awhile." The lie flowed a little too easily from her tongue, remnant of a time when lies were a survival skill. Feeling her message pad vibrate, she welcomed the distraction and looked down at it. A small smile curled her lips when she read it. "Oh good, I have time for a proper drink."
Tag Eliska Bremmer Shavan Th'zhaar Kaya Som [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Observation Lounge] Shavan motioned for a third drink while Eliska shared a different near-death experience she had faced in the ellipse. Because if getting trapped in a rare spatial anomaly didn’t get you, regular flesh-and-blood killers still would. He raised the glass when it was poured. “Cheers to naked Vulcans, then.” And to never having a posting as boring as the Centaur. Of course, he hadn’t forgotten those who were still alive and trapped in the ellipse. His manner grew slightly more serious again as he considered what Kaya said next. Of the events in the ellipse being neatly wrapped up, as if this was it. He didn’t like that at all, but was hardly surprised. In fact… he may have already taken preemptive action. “If they did, it wasn’t every copy.” The vague admission was quiet. He took another drink. When Syl finally approached them, he waved her over, and gave a sympathetic smile. There was something that didn’t quite add up about Admiral Ellis being the one to deliver that news personally… but at the moment, Shavan chose not to pry. Especially as his attention was caught by a message on his communication device. A cryptic invitation from an unknown sender.. and it sounded like he was not the only one here who had received it. “Well, that’s interesting. I take it you're all going?” There was no doubt that he would be there. Eliska Bremmer Kaya Som Syl O'Connell [ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ]The Chief certainly had a way about words all right. Pretty direct. Mourn the dead, call it done. And those alter-egos who'd come back with them, like Nork? Probably shuttled off somewhere quiet for debrief and exile until they could figure out what to do with them. And the remainder that was stuck in the Ellipse, too bad, so sad, carry on. Now, Eliska Bremmer wasn't the idealistic sort that could be in Starfleet. She wanted to see the galaxy, and maybe do something good along the way. But she'd been taught that leaving someone behind was always a last resort, and it damn well better be a last resort; not a politically expedient solution like Syl, and Mister Th'Zhaar, among others had experienced, or because it was just "too difficult" to make it happen like the other Mac in the ellipse. But then, Syl came to join them with a smile and she ordered herself a double. Well, Eliska did know the pilot well enough to have a pretty good idea something was wrong, even before she slammed back the vodka and spoke about her mother of all people. No, something wasn't right, given what she knew of Syl's relationship with her parents. She was holding something back, but there was no way the Petty Officer was going to pry, especially not in public. But, that did not mean that she would stay still, and Eliska pushed herself from the bar to place a hand on Syl's back. To hell with appearances; if folk didn't know by now they were together, well, they must be so badly ostracized from the crew in general that they were even kept out of the rumour mill. But before she could speak, her personal PADD vibrated and she pulled it out... just like the Andorian and the pilot did. Another 'memorial'? With the name of the sender obscured? And, just to make it all fun, the list of names it was sent to. Interesting all right. Maybe even downright clandestine. The Science Officer definitely sounded like he was going there. And Syl, so was she. Which meant Bremmer truly had but one option. "Wouldn't miss it for the world," she replied with a grin, before signaling for another vodka for herself before turning to look to the pilot. "Care to go in together? And getting changed at your place or mine?"

[NPC - Zyri Zh'raal - Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ] As the chime sounded on her comm-unit alerting the young Andorian hybrid that she had a message, she actually seemed a bit distressed. She wasn't experiencing any real anxiety, but she simply couldn't decide if checking that particular message was appropriate in this setting. After spying a few others casually looking at their own devices, she finally decided it was okay and glanced down at the message. Zyri did not have a poker face, and was intrigued and equally perplexed by what she was reading. "Real memorial?" she said softly to herself. The idea that this memorial was some sort of a facsimile seemed preposterous. Although, after exiting the Ellipse, Zyri had come to learn from life on the station that people were not always so literal. She took a deep breath. Noting the source of hte message, it was easily one she felt that she could trust. There was still some time before this memorial began, but Zyri didn't want to spend the remaining moments here. She made a few polite nods and moved towards the exit. Though once she crossed the threshold, her pace quickened exponentially. It was possible she had just enough time to finish a slice of cheesecake.
[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ] Kova's study of this flawed phallus gave way to the sight of Zyri fidgeting uncomfortably. The Andorian had come to see that wasn't necessarily an uncommon sight, but for some reason she appeared more distressed than usual. Kova didn't approach, however, opting to keep her distance as she casually circled the perimeter of the room. Eventually, she spied the young hybrid study her comm-unit before leaving the room. There was a bit of haste after she entered corridor. Kova moved after her, curious if she was feeling ill, though she suspected her departure had more to do with what she'd observed on her comm-unit than a queasy stomach. Kova began to make her way towards the exit as well. Once outside, she slipped the interactive lens over her eye and asked Chel-E to bring up surveillance footage of the area she was currently standing. After reversing the time index, she found that she could track Zyri's movement. The Andorian planned on keeping her distance... as long as Zyri was safe.

[ Lt. JG Rin Zakir - Observation Lounge, Front Ear] After his offering of a quiet prayer to those who had lost their lives or otherwise been left behind, Zak had been joined by some of his remaining friends at the bar. They talked of those that were no longer with them, a talk that was interrupted by a chime from his communicator. He read the message while somehow keeping his expression neutral. Real memorial? What was this then? The message from an anonymous sender had him intrigued, and he had no second thoughts about excusing himself to make his way to The Spotty Alibi. He wondered why these people, himself included, in particularly, but he would soon find out. He also couldn't help but notice the little blip with his name (everyone else had been listed surname first), but he had no plans to mention it. Even now, many people were confused with bajoran names, and it was the least of his worries! He had half an hour before the new rendezvous, and he wondered if he should change out of his stifling dress uniform. In the end, he decided against it, figuring if really was a private memorial, he should maybe keep wearing his best. At least it would give him time for a proper prayer before joining the mysterious sender and the others. Felicity Ellis et al

[ Kaya Som | Observation lounge ]
Kaya didn't miss Shavan implying he'd managed to pirate some of the data, kicking herself for not have tried the same. She promised to press him on it later. Having met Kaya'te only to have her taken away felt worse than losing her capacity to join. Quietly, where no one could see, she ached for something to hold on to other than a memory.
Their personals chimed and it was obvious all those nearby had gotten the same strange invite. The header confirmed as much. Both Mirens, too. And Ic, bless him. Kaya also recognized the name of Zyri who carried very conspicuous Trill spots. Kaya looked up and looked around in the vain attempt to spot whoever the sender was.
"Who's not on this list...?" she wondered out loud. Someone who'd been there - lost someone, but wasn't in the recipient list. Kaya could think of several, including Nork but the prose wasn't really his style. "Ellis. Our Ellis," she said conspiratorialy. Now that would be a twist.
"I should go. I have ... shift reports to write." She didn't attempt to make the excuse to duck out of this reception seem genuine, but neither were the others.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Front Ear - Observation Lounge]Any excuse to not be in the same room as Admiral Ellis was good enough for her to take it. Hearing Eliska question, she knew this would be one of those times that the other woman wouldn't leave her side until she knew Syl was alright. So after ordering a cocktail - they had half an hour, after all - she turned to her with a more genuine smile. "Sure. My place is closer." Both to the Lounge, and the Alibi. She really hoped the grumpy Trill wasn't bartending today...

[Elder Cerjess Miren - Front Ear - Observation Lounge]The conversation continued around him, as though he wasn't there. Just like life on the station had continued since his return. He heard the comments made about those that had children while trapped in the Ellipse. His fingers tightened around the freshly poured shot glass, but he held his tongue. Now was not the time to remind them that they would still be stuck there if it hadn't of been for those children born in the ellipse. "Felicity Ellis," he murmured before slamming the shot back and placing the empty glass at the end of the steadily growing line. When his message pad chirped, the only reason he checked it was because Zyri was the only one who ever messaged him. But it wasn't from her. Cerjess stared at it for a moment longer than usual while his blurred vision attempted to make sense out of the jumble of letters it saw. Real memorial? The Spotty Alibi. Well... One bar was as good as another. And leaving now would give him a chance to get something to eat. Sliding off the stool, he braced a hand against the bar to get his balance as the room spun around him. He definitely needed to get something to eat. Once he was certain he wouldn't stumble, the Trill made his way out the door, catching sight of Kova not too far ahead. "Bored already? Or did you get the message too?" He had seen there were other recipients... But he hadn't bothered trying to read them.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Corridor Outside Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ] Kova's pursuit of Zyri was actually interrupted by one person she had done her best to avoid since his arrival upon the station. Why had she attempted to keep her distance from the elder Cerjess? To be honest, it was confusing at best and certainly complicated. It wasn't that she was concerned about how she would respond to him. She was more concerned with how he would respond to her. After all, she was the woman that he had fallen in love with. A partner with whom he had brought his daughter, Zyri , into this world with. She was her... and at the same time she wasn't. Expectant stares. Nostalgic glances. They were feelings and thoughts that she was oblivious to. It was one thing to put up with it from Zyri. Whatever connection existed between Kova and Zyri was distant enough to compartmentalize. With Cerjess... there was a familiarity. It wasn't to say that she knew the scientist of this time well, but there was a link that couldn't be denied or even questioned. Yet, in this moment, the circumstances could very easily give way to her fears. The elder Cerjess seemed... inebriated. In such a state, that nostalgia could worm its way to the surface with minimal effort. As he spoke, he mentioned boredom as a reason for her departure, but also spoke about some message. She had seen Zyri look at her comm-unit before. Perhaps the two of them had gotten the same message. Clearly, it was meant to be a discrete exchange. It seemed that Cerjess' inebriation was already compromising his sense of restraint. "I was under the impression that wasn't supposed to be discussed so openly," Kova responded. She moved her hands behind her back as if to clasp onto her own wrist. Though, with her fingers, she was now attempting to use controls on her wrist chronometer to guide Chel-E into hacking Cerjess' comm-unit to get a peak at this message. That meant that keeping Cerjess preoccupied. "It looks like Zyri got it as well. She left not long ago," She paused a moment and thought it best to shift the conversation slightly as she continued to hack into his comm-unit. "Is there a reason you have chosen not to cease the effects of your synthehol? I don't imagine you care for Zyri to observe you in such a state."

[Shavan Th’zhaar - Observation Lounge]
Seeing the caring touch shared between Syl and Eliska, Shavan turned away. A knowing smile crossed his lips, then stiffened almost imperceptibly when his gaze finally fell on Ic a short distance away. Of course, he need look no further to find a motive to go to this ‘real memorial’, and to refuse to completely abandon the ellipse project. Just because there was no other version of himself, nor descendants to save, didn’t mean it wasn’t personal, and for more than one reason. He would never deserve the last thing the other Mac’s Ic had said to him… but this was the very least he could do.
Shavan stared idly into the glass of Saurian brandy as the other message recipients began to filter out. Kaya’s guess that it was sent by Commander Ellis was interesting… and they would find out when the time came. They still had half an hour, so he downed the drink and ordered a fourth. Though the others had the right idea about getting changed out of the stifling dress uniforms first. After throwing back the last drink (and with the room swaying only a little), he got up and silently made for the exit.

[Elder Cerjess Miren - Front Ear - Observation Lounge]Cerjess shrugged loosely when she said the message wasn't intended to be spoken about openly. While the sender was obscured, he'd glimpsed enough people looking at their devices to know it wasn't much of a secret that one had been sent. Though hearing that Zyri had left after checking her own device made him hesitate slightly. Then she questioned his drinking, and he sighed heavily, ruffling a hand through the grey hair he'd let grow longer than usual - something to further separate himself from the younger Cerjess that still had a full life to live, and simply no longer having a reason to care about his appearance. "Why is it those of you who were in the Ellipse for hours see fit to tell us how we should handle having been there for decades?" They looked at their older selves and liked to think they would have made different choices. But the fact remained, they were the same. The choices would always have been the same had the Mac not been rescued. "You're not wrong though." Zyri had been his sole reason for living since Kova - his Kova - had passed. He continued living in this backwards world so that she wouldn't be the only outcast. "I'm on my way to the replimat to get something to eat." Of course, he would likely keep drinking when he eventually joined the others at the Alibi. But food would at least keep him from being entirely sloppy in his inebriation.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Corridor Outside Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ] Elder Cerjess made no attempt to hide his annoyance at her words. It was not her intent to tell him how he should respond to having been imprisoned in that Ellipse. If he felt the need to dull his senses with a chosen means of inebriation, then so be it. "I was merely suggesting that Zyri would likely benefit from a healthier means of... coping with stress," Kova said. For whatever reason, it seemed that elder Cerjess decided to temper his response, suggesting that she was right. As far as Kova was concerned, that was never in question. He did point out that he would be stopping by the replimat to get something to eat. It was around this time that her hacking of his messages had finally come through. It was simply a meeting at the Spotty Alibi shortly. With the pilfered knowledge now in hand, she turned her full attention back upon Cerjess. "Is that supposed to be some sort of invitation?"

[Elder Cerjess Miren - Front Ear - Corridor]That, he also agreed with, and Cerjess was glad his daughter didn't seem the least bit inclined to follow him down this particular path. But he didn't comment on that, and was prepared to continue on his way to the replimat when Kova surprised him with her next question. He paused for a moment before shrugging again. "It can be. If you want to join me, I won't turn down the company. But I expect there are other places you'd rather be." It hadn't escaped his notice that the Andorian tended to spend as little time around him as possible, and their conversations were usually focused on Zyri. Cerjess was gradually getting better at separating her from the woman of his memories, though he knew there were times that was more difficult than others. Certain expressions, comments, habits, brought reminded him they were the same person, even though they weren't. He didn't blame her for not wanting to stick around.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Corridor Outside Observation Lounge, Front Ear Station ] He didn't refuse her company, nor did he graciously accept it. Instead, he stated that he would not turn it down should she decide to accompany him. Of course, he did state that there were likely other places she would rather be. Was that the truth? Kova took a few moments to actually consider the matter before answering. "Presently, my attendance is not required elsewhere," Kova said. She moved so that her pace and trajectory was in sync with Cerjess. Besides, it was still a possibility (as far as she was concerned) that he'd take a spill in his inebriated state. It wasn't as if she knew how well he could hold his booze. "So... I will go with you... to the replimat," Kova clarified.

[Mila - The Spotty Alibi]
After a quick change into a loose fitting off the shoulder dress, with little effort and maximum comfort for a few hours or more of drinking. Mila entered the Alibi, suddenly aware that she might be the first one to arrive. That was typical or maybe she was simply keen to get the real memorial underway and drink something that could get her well and truly wasted.
Not that she hadn't appreciated the drinks in the lounge, but here it was stronger and gave her the ability to really relax. Placing her order for her preferred drink of Bolian whiskey and not the weak stuff, Mila turned and leaned against the bar. This gave her a better advantage to see who entered and then go from there.
Her earlier curiosity still burned but that would be nothing compared to the alcohol that she was about to drink.

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell — Observation Lounge -> Spotty Alibi, Front Ear] Ic kept quiet after Kaya said what she had about children. It was better that he did. The traces of his other self still clinging on were those memories of Elouan, a doctor who had done everything he could to keep the lonely ship sane, and of T’Pren, who stopped at nothing to make anyone smile. He thought of all the ones who did not make it by no fault of anyone’s but the precious few resources of the isolated ship itself. Those little blips of hope had spoiled the kindness that this iteration of him, while perhaps naive, still stubbornly possessed. He nursed the ache of a damaged self’s impulse to snap back in defense of all the children who kept the Mac going in the orange void, holding himself tightly about the shoulders, even into his second drink. And when Shavan admitted his alternate fate, Ic kept quiet then, too. The emotions that ensorcelled this full suite of implication and consequence were decades old and at once brand new, and he wasn’t about to feel them any more publicly than he already had, for everyone’s sake. They could likely be seen, though, in the tension of his jaw and the mist that crept in around downcast black eyes. Mention of the data only intensified Ic’s equally guilty silence. The echoes of Commander Ellis’s promise to the other crew had not left him, and neither had any of the information passed along. Quite a bit of it had been his work over the years, after all, and he had every right to retain it— if only stashed and encrypted in a private holodeck program he’d didn’t yet have the courage to run. He was only surprised to overhear that Shavan had kept it as well, uncertain of his reasons for doing so. Ic’s personal device went off with a buzz in his pocket. Confused and concerned about what it might be about, as it was set to silent except for priority notifications, he frowned vaguely as he fought his dress uniform to fish it out. Finally reading it over, his brows knit at the sender, the subject line, and even the message. Only the list of recipients made the rest of it make any meaningful sense. Although he doubted very much that his presence had value to probably-Commander-Ellis in any small social group, much less at the Spotty Alibi, Ic did not turn down invitations, least of all those in relation to this. The mission wasn’t over, and he wouldn’t act like it was until every option had been exhausted and then some. Another self might have given up on the Ellipse, but he hadn’t. He felt the ultra-spectrum color of Shavan’s brief gaze move through him then, and chased it with the remainder of the glass. It was impossible to preserve, even soaked in so much alcohol, but he had to try. Maybe he’d finally talk to him a little later at the bar, if he found the guts to. Twenty-something minutes later, a skinny Betazoid all in black nodded to Mila on his way to a booth opposite the bar. He didn’t know her well enough in any iteration of themselves to be sure of even small talk, but the look he gave her was one of solidarity. However they found themselves with adjacency to the Ellipse, they were in it together. Everyone invited here was. He tucked himself against the wall, inclined to wait until he was sure of this gathering before ordering anything else to drink.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - The Spotty Alibi] It was just before the time indicated by the message that Shavan made his way to the Spotty Alibi. As intended, he had swapped his dress uniform for a typical all black outfit more befitting the current setting. There was no sign of any meeting happening yet, but he saw Mila at the bar. Walking over, he nodded to her and stopped to order a drink. Somehow, being here didn’t yet feel much better then the public memorial had. While the bartender worked, he turned to survey the room. Searching for a seat more out of the way but with a view of anything that happened, he saw Ic already at a booth, clearly there for the same reason. Instinctively seeking his company, and with no small amount of liquor already coursing through him, Shavan took his drink over to the booth and slid into the empty seat opposite. “Hey,” he murmured a quick greeting, then added in an casual, offhand tone, “I hate this.” As clearly they all did. Not sure if it was even welcome, he took a drink without saying more. Ic Arbrell
