[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Shuttlecraft Daintree ] Isaiah smiled slightly at hearing the words of his girlfriend on the other end of the communication. There had been nothing in her voice to suggest she was stressed, but he was confident that she'd be happy once everyone was back and safely aboard the Mac. While waiting for their flightplan to be confirmed, an alert sounded capturing the attention of the shuttle's occupants. Isaiah and Banyss quickly turned their attention to the console. "What was that?" asked the Edosian as his trio of hands moved about the console working towards an actual answer. "It looks like we've lost telemetry on one of the sensors," Isaiah said. Of course, that didn't make any sense. "But now, I don't see any explanation for it. You?" The Edosian scientist shook his head. "Nothing. Could it have been a malfunction in the equipment? Some sort of spike in solar radiation?"Isaiah shook his head. "It's unlikely. These sensors were calibrated specifically for this environment. We ran them through several stress tests to anticipate any issues," Isaiah stated. Around that time, he received the flight plan from the math, noting some slight alterations. He took a deep breath. "Scan the planet, see if you can pick up the exact location for that sensor. Hopefully, it's something we can solve remotely. Otherwise..." Isaiah didn't have to finish his sentence as it was obvious that the prospect of taking the shuttle down onto the planet was a growing possibility.[/font] "Aye, sir," he answered as he set about to follow orders. Meanwhile, Isaiah contacted the Mac once again. He was far from thrilled with having to share this bit of news. =A= "Mac, this is Daintree. We need to delay our departure momentarily. {Quoted Post(s)} [Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]Syl nodded encouragement as Left Ear ran the scan as she'd directed. Sure enough, a little red dot appeared along the yellow path. "Whatever it is, at least it's small enough for them to avoid easily. So now we run another scan of the surrounding area and ask the computer to find a safe detour." This time, she tapped the buttons herself as she spoke, but made sure to move slowly enough that Left Ear could see what she was doing. She could hear Eliska talking to the Captain across the Bridge, and while waiting for the computer to do its job she glanced over her shoulder towards the woman at the tactical console. "Relax, PO. This isn't the first supernova the Federation has dealt with." It wasn't even the first time a Starfleet crew got to witness the event first-hand. But it was all new to Eliska, so Syl gave her a reassuring smile as she spoke before turning her attention back to her own console and the impromptu lesson.
Tag Left Ear to-Ennien Eliska Bremmer [Bridge - USS Mac] The anticipation had become even more real as Thea settled into the centre seat and quietly observed what was going on around the Bridge. The Daintree was on it's way back, the invitation to Chief Som had been made and for the Doctor Captain everything was as it should be. Appreciating the significance of these moments both for the mission and seeing her crew help one another. It wasn't often that they got to do this in any sense of the word and Thea had saw no reason to stifle or deny the opportunities afforded to them right now. Tearing her gaze away from Syl and Left Ear when Bremmer began to speak, giving the Crewman her full attention. The information that she gave wasn't anything out of the ordinary and what was to be expected given the situation. Having read the reports regarding the last mission, Thea hoped that there wouldn't be any cause for concern and hopefully lessons had been learned. " Thank you Crewman, that ties in with what we know from the data that Science has been collecting" Thea replied, knowing that Bremmer was trying. When she then continued and asked if there was anything inhabited within the supernova's trajectory. Thea saw and heard the nerves within the question, before Syl then encouraged Bremmer to relax. There was a warm smile directed to their pilot as she wasn't wrong. It wouldn't do anyone, any good to be nervous because everything was already in place and taken care of. " We've followed in the footsteps of some great crews in getting to witness such an event and as to answer your question. There was only one other inhabited system in close proximity and they've also been relocated".Thea hoped that the reassurance from both Syl and herself would help Bremmer and stop any further worry.

TAG: Thea Baker , Syl O'Connell , Eliska Bremmer , Left Ear to-Ennien [/quote][/spoiler] [ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Bridge, USS Mac ]As a rule, Eliska Bremmer would not have traded her upbringing for anything. Nova Kosice was, for all intents and purposes, backwards compared to most of the Federation. They grew their own food, raised their own livestock, children worked the family farms and orchards as well as attend schooling that, by Earth standards, was woefully behind. But it also meant she was less reliant on fancy technologies, seeking practical solutions rather than try to make a piece of equipment do something it wasn't designed to do. But, it also meant she lacked a whole lot of understanding about a lot of things. Like wrapping her head around the sheer destructive power of a supernova, and yet how it's not considered as a really serious hazard past a distance that, by most modern standards, is quite short, but is still larger than the Petty Officer could actually conceptualize. But when Syl turned around to enjoin her to relax (something that wasn't bound to happen until they would be well away from that thing's blast radius!), Bremmer managed a bit of a smile. "I'll try, Ms O'Connell," she replied. Now, it was definitely her turn to be thankful for the reassurance. And once their watch would come to an end, a certain Petty Officer would most certainly try to make some arrangements to spend some time with a certain JG, somewhere out of sight... where she could express just how grateful she was for that reassurance, and that it was a foot she trusted on the gas. Though, the Captain added her own reassurance. So there had been somewhere inhabited, but they'd already been moved. Or were being moved. The speed of light was one of those things that could buy a whole lot of time, or so very little... space and its concepts were just so damn big... "Thank you, Captain," she acknowledged. "I just can't really get my head around just how powerful that thing is... and just how big space is." Yeah, she had not problems admitting that. There was no point in trying to hide the fact that she wasn't nearly in the same league as the commissioned types on the Bridge when it came even to basic education, let alone their more extensive academic background. All she could hope for was that practical skills could at least get the job done. Then, Commander Quinn came on the line to announce that a sensor platform had gone down, so she bent to her panel. "Confirmed, there's one out of the net... and I can't find an error code for it. I mean, it's pretty close to the star, could one of the neutrino spikes have fried it?"

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]Syl was glad that Eliska calmed down at least a little bit. She honestly didn't think anyone could truly understand the size of space. It was easier to just accept it as one those things that were beyond mortal comprehension. A moment later the computer revealed an altered flight path, the dotted line between the shuttle and ship turning green. "Now we send it back to them with the all clear when they're ready." She continued the lesson, showing Left Ear how to send the new path in a message back to the Daintree. It was a little concerning to hear they'd be staying by the planet for longer... But there was still time. She'd just have to make sure the ship was ready to go.

Kaya had considered taking up the captain's offer to head up the bridge, but it was about that time that she was interrupted by one of the other engineers.
Yande Djigo was calling her over. "Chief, we might have a problem."
Kaya came over to stand alongside the petty officer, furrowed brow. Now wasn't a great time for malfunctions. "Show me?"
"I'm seeing a fluxuation in starboard shields, sector 12," Djigo said.
"What's the emitter look like?" Kaya answered her own question by keying in a fast diagnostic. It came up clean. "Try a rapid recycle. Kick it."
"Aye, Chief."

[Bridge - USS Mac] If Thea was being honest she didn't know how Bremmer would react to the reassurance that she had received. So was happy to see the beginnings of a smile as the Crewman answered Syl before acknowledging Thea. " It's what I'm here for and believe me, the more you're out here, the less daunting it gets" Thea replied, understanding where she was coming from. That was likely a lack of experience somewhere down the line and perhaps more ship time would be needed. That would be something to perhaps consider as Isaiah reported back in from the Daintree. Well this was unexpected but at the same time and knowing Isaiah as she did, he would do his best to get the sensor working. As much as it worried her to have him still out there, he knew what he was doing. =/\= Understood Daintree, keep me updated =/\= Sure she could tell him not to take too long but didn't have too as Bremmer confirmed the information and came up with a possible suggestion as to what might have caused it. " It could be anything and hopefully it's a simple fix".There wasn't much for Thea to do until she heard from Isaiah again or the Daintree returned and at least they had the new flight path courtesy of Syl and Left Ear.

[The Chasm of Hope - 10km underneath Freedom] " Frell!!" Marale exclaimed as the beacon clattered to the floor, realising quickly that she could be heard. The young Aadoan quickly looked around, trying to ignore the hammering of her heart and the pain from the gash on her hand as she retrieved the device. For one glorious moment, she had succeeded in getting it to work before disaster struck. Yet Marale wasn't about to be defeated and even though red blood dripped onto the metal, she managed to reset it into place. Although this time she made sure it was more secure and allowed herself to take a breath. Her wound was nothing really when it came to trying to save her family and as the adrenaline began to kick in, Marale focused on what she had to do, rather than her previous mishaps. Feeling somewhat calmer, Marale activated the start up sequence once more, balling her hands into fists as it began to light up as before. Feeling like a Manra beast trying to take its first steps as the device shuddered, went off then came to life once more. As the signal held, Marale could finally justify her hope and keeping this a secret. Of course she didn't know if anyone would pick it up or look a little closer but she had to believe that it would be enough.
1. For the Daintree - The sensor had lost telemetry thanks to the signal generated by the beacon that Marale was using. The interference was too much for the Federation device and once Isaiah and Banyss investigated, they would recognise the signal as Aadoan. 2. For the Mac - Since the Daintree was closer they would receive the Aadoan signal more clearly or as clear as possible given the situation. However the Mac would experience a loss of sensors due to what was going on in the system.

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Bridge] Left Ear carefully observed everything Syl did and hoped she'd be able to reproduce the actions if it were ever needed. Sometimes just knowing the sequence wasn't enough. As things were beginning to happen, the cadet wanted to see what some of the others were doing, so she stood and nodded politely to Syl. ' Thank you for the lesson, Lieutenant. I'd like to learn more about piloting and navigating,' she said as she glanced around the bridge. Tactical was busy now. Left Ear wanted to see what Eliska was having to do. The Sivaoan meandered over to the tactical station, taking care to stay well back and out of the tactical officer's way, but Left Ear couldn't help snaking her tail around Eliska's waist for a quick 'hug'. Left Ear probably understood Eliska's situation better than any of the others did, having come from a background if not similar, at least more similar than most others. Left Ear had had a little more experience than most other Sivaoans, but it still paled in comparison to people from most Federation worlds. TAG: Thea Baker Soft Tag: Syl O'Connell , Eliska Bremmer , Left Ear to-Ennien [ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Bridge, USS Mac ]Things were just starting to settle into place. Bremmer, well, she might have gotten some reassurance, and she couldn't possibly want anyone else at the helm with her foot on the throttle (or whatever term pilots liked to use), ready to punch it when the time would come. However, before long Cadet Left-Ear walked off from the helm and came around her, and a tail went about her waist. "Hey Doc," Eliska greeted her, and raising her hands from her console to show their backs and wriggled her fingers, and how there was no more than just a few new small scars to show where those damn bugs had flayed them. Once they had been recovered from that mission, she had needed her hands looked at again to make sure there would be no lasting damage, but it turned out the Sivaoan had done an excellent job in preventing further injury and making sure everything still worked as it should. But, immediately her attention went back to the board, to a blinking orange light. "We've got a... flutter in one of the shield generators. Looks like Engineering is on it," she reported. And then, just as she was about to start showing the Cadet around her board as best she could, there was another silent alarm going on, just in time for Commander Quinn to speak up. A signal? Yep, she was seeing it too. Now, if that interfered with the sensor platform or how, she couldn't say. But what came up next, that did get a wince from her. "I just saw that signal... and it's gone; I can't work through that mess of noise out there. I can't tell you much more than it was coming from the planet. Though I'm not liking the idea of sending just one or two people down there just now. This would be prime time for scavengers and looters to come poking around, and they wouldn't like seeing us down there." Of course, other officers could probably dream up amazing and wonderful ways to see if there were indeed other ships in the system through the soup of 'sensor noise' she had to deal with without breaking a sweat, and picking out a stray signal from that mess would only require a bit of effort; but that wasn't her. But she did understand the concept of opportunistic crimes all right.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]"Anytime, Cadet," Syl replied genuinely when Left Ear thanked her and moved away. As long as they weren't in a dire situation where time and precision were of the essence, then the pilot never minded giving a brief lesson or two. It helped break up the monotony that was waiting for a team to return. When Eliska expressed concern over only a couple people going to the planet's surface to find the source of that signal, Syl reached for her panel to run another scan of the area to prove there was no one else around. But no sooner had her fingers landed on the screen, than the buttons she'd meant to push went dark. "We've lost sensors," she reported, glancing back over her shoulder at the Captain.

[Bridge - USS Mac] It was very much in Thea's nature to worry and even though things had taken an unexpected turn, deep down the CO shouldn't of been too surprised. It was rare to have a mission go to plan but so far they still didn't have all the answers. Still that didn't stop her from smiling warmly as Left Ear moved from the helm to tactical, before Isaiah reported in once more. Thea didn't need to be a genius to understand the risks involved by having the Daintree go to the surface of Irani Prime. Time wasn't exactly on their side and for a moment considered refusing Isaiah's request to proceed, until he mentioned the Aadoan and how he also wanted to confirm that they had all left. Curiosity flamed inside, but Thea didn't answer straightaway as Bremmer spoke up. The issue being dealt with by Engineering was equally worrisome as they needed those shields to work properly. Then again considering the beating they were receiving from the burgeoning supernova, it was to be expected. Listening as Bremmer continued, Thea's brow began to furrow as she considered everything that had been said. Then came some news that would only make things that more difficult as Syl reported that they had lost sensors. " Contact Engineering, see if we can get them working again as we're going to need them" she replied before continuing. " As for the Daintree, I'm not overly keen on sending them down there on their own, so if you have an ideas, let's hear them".Thea had an idea of what to do but as always wanted to hear from the crew before making a final decision. In the meantime, she responded to Isaiah and toggled the button on the arm console to do so. =/\= Mac to Daintree, standby for the moment as I'm working on possibly sending you some kind of back up. As for the Aadoan, the last records we received showed that everyone was accounted for but something is causing that signal and hopefully we have the time to figure it out =/\=

Curiosity flamed inside, but Thea didn't answer straightaway as Bremmer spoke up. The issue being dealt with by Engineering was equally worrisome as they needed those shields to work properly. Then again considering the beating they were receiving from the burgeoning supernova, it was to be expected. {Spoiler}{Quoted Posts} [ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Bridge, USS Mac ]Things were just starting to settle into place. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Shuttlecraft Daintree ] Admittedly, Quinn didn't like the idea of waiting. While Thea had confirmed the reports that everyone had been accounted for, they couldn't necessarily rule out the idea that someone had indeed been left behind, or by some other means had found themselves on this planet. And no one sent out a beacon unless they wanted to be found. Quinn could overhear the exchange with Bremmer as she attempted to solicit advice from the rest of the Bridge crew. Isaiah thought it best to offer his own thoughts as well.
=A= "If you proceed with that suggestion, Captain, I suggest the Mac aim for the far side of the planet," =A= Isaiah stated. =A= "If the Mac were to drop out of warp at our current position, the gravimetric sheer could put a lot of stress on the structural integrity of the nacelles, and that's a best case scenario. It'd be like stepping right into a wind tunnel." =A=
The Edosian ran the numbers and turned towards the science chief. "Commander, that would likely increase the time of our rendezvous with the Mac significantly," Banyss stated.
The ensign's words weren't lost on his superior, however. =A= "Captain, if there are injured people on the surface, time may not be a luxury they can afford. We could take the Daintree sub-orbital. Close on the position maintaining a minimum altitude of 700 km? Once the Mac is in position, our comm signal could be used as a subspace tether for the transporters. Mr. Banyss and I should be able to uphold the integrity of their signals to beam three or so people onto the shuttle. That way, we'd have a full team upon final descent." =A=

There was something going on with the Daintree and a transmission from the should-be-abandoned planet was coming through. =/\= "Engineering, bridge. About the transmission - homing signals from cultures in this sector are often designed to be unmissable, to hit all systems. But it's not impossible to configure sensors and shields to actually receive them. I can send a subroutine to Daintree if you give us a few minutes. =/\= "Shields are back, chief," Yande supplied. =/\= "Aaaand starboard shields are back to full. All clear. No problem." =/\= Thea Baker

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Bridge] The cadet's wide eyes flicked from person to person as the situation developed, and then Thea was asking for ideas, and Commander Quinn was saying outright what Left Ear, with her lack of experience, hadn't caught the first time around - there might be people left on the surface. Left Ear didn't have anything to contribute as far as how they were supposed to get to people who might be on the planet - the rest of the crew were far more knowledgeable than she was in that respect - but she couldn't ignore the implications as a doctor. ' Captain, I should go. In case there's anyone injured. And I'll do whatever else I can to help,' the Sivaoan volunteered. Her whole body nearly trembled in readiness to dart for the turbolift to go retrieve a medical kit.' Tag Thea Baker, softs to everyone else
