[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]Syl shook her head as the others began offering suggestions. She could forgive Eliska not understanding the physics involved with what she was suggesting... But Commander Quinn at least should know the dangers involved with going to warp inside a solar system. "Warping to the planet is suicide," she spoke up firmly. "Even if it was safe on a normal basis, without sensors I have no way of knowing if we'll be warping directly into a solid object." It was more risky than using a malfunctioning transporter. Syl was good, but she wasn't that good. She ran a hand through her hair, absently tugging at the strands as she tried to think of an alternative. "I can send over the hornet drones," she offered, glancing over her shoulder at the Captain. "I can use full impulse to get us closer to the planet to save time... And send the drones to rendezvous with the away team on the planet. It'll provide an additional four sets of eyes without anyone else leaving the ship." Okay, so she'd only be able to see from one drone's point of view at a time, but the hours of practice she had put in helped her get sufficient at toggling between them quickly. "If we keep an open com link, I can let them know of any dangers nearby while they do the work."

[Bridge - USS Mac] Thea knew and understood a lot of things but having the crew offer their suggestions, opinions and ideas had to be one of the best parts of being a CO. She also hated having to keep Isaiah and the Daintree waiting but she would be remiss to send them in alone, especially since they didn't have a lot of time. As each person spoke including Engineering as Kaya updated them on the shields. There was definitely a sense of pride that everyone contributed and it also didn't surprise her that Som had been keeping up with the situation even though she wasn't currently on the Bridge. She couldn't fault their dedication and once the last person had spoken, the CO considered everything that had been said. As dangerous as it was to take the Mac in they really didn't have a choice and they also had additional resources that Thea hadn't thought of. Decisions made, Thea then began to issue orders, starting with their Engineering Chief. =/\= Baker to Som, great news about the shields, however we need sensors back online if possible. As for your subroutine idea, you have those few minutes or whatever you need to send it =/\=One done, Thea then turned her attention to Bremmer and Left Ear, " Miss Bremmer, have a security team on standby but for the moment continue to monitor as much as you can and take us to red alert. Although silence the klaxons on the Bridge. Left Ear, have a medkit ready then return here to assist where you can until we know more".It was always best to be ready, even if there was no immediate need for anyone else to leave the ship and at least they would have a back up plan. Thea then turned towards Syl. " Take us in on full impulse then get the drones ready to deploy, we'll keep the comm link open".Finally she spoke to Isaiah knowing that her Boyfriend would have heard everything that had been said. =/\= I'm sure you got all of that but get ready to proceed as soon as the drones are deployed and stay safe, we'll be there momentarily =/\=

[Meanwhile in the Chasm Of Hope]
Marale had no idea how long she had been sat there staring at the beacon as it continued to blink and whir. Reassuring her that it was still very much in working order and that her secrecy had been worth it. Of course it might be a shortlived victory if no one was listening and yet the young Aadoan refused to think negatively. She may only be 18 full rotations but she wasn't stupid or naive and saving her family's lives was a sacrifice she was willing to make even if it meant that she could no longer speak to her Father.
The realisation that Rolis had been wrong had stung like a Baranga fly, piercing her heart and leaving her confused. That feeling had remained with her until she decided to do something about it and yes she was defying him and her Mother but this was more important. If she could get Rolis to see the truth then that would be a miracle worthy of Madova but until then, she would continue what she was doing.
She could hear her Mother call her for the midday meal but Marale couldn't eat and hoped that she could bide a little more time as she shouted back. " I'll be there shortly, I'm just repairing the moisture collectors".
Another lie but a believable one since their machinery had been malfunctioning and it had been something that Marale had already repaired, but her parents didn't need to know that.

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Bridge --> Infirmary --> Bridge] Left Ear was so ready for action that she almost sprang to the turbolift with a hurried, ' Yes, Captain,' as the doors opened. In short order, the cadet was on her way to the infirmary to collect what she needed. Once there, she stood staring into the storage lockers for a few minutes, debating what to take. Without knowing what they might encounter, Left Ear wanted to be as broadly prepared as possible. Finally, she loaded a large case with a variety of kits: a couple of general medical, burn kit, trauma kit, field surgery kit. There was some overlap in tools, but it never hurt to have extra. A few minutes later, the Sivaoan returned to the bridge, setting the case just inside the turbolift doors and pausing to glance around and see if anything had changed. Tag Thea Baker

[ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Bridge, USS Mac ]Well, that was a notion that didn't fly, getting there at warp. And Syl, well, she was pretty clear about just how bad an idea it was to go to warp, but not for a second did Bremmer feel like she was being talked down to. One of the many reasons she was so very fond of the pilot, that she never made her feel the least bit bad about her lack of basic education. However, decisions were made before long, and a landing party would be assembled. "Aye-aye," she simply replied once the words 'Red Alert' were sounded... however she was not quite quick enough to completely prevent the blaring of the klaxon, cutting it short on its first cycle rather than being entirely silent as directed, and then she sent word to the Security office to prepare a strong, well-armed detail to beam down to the surface. "Ah, sorry about that Captain," she then added, somewhat sheepishly regarding her mistake.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]"Aye ma'am, approaching the planet." At least at impulse speeds, she could rely on previous sensor data to guide the ship around any obstacles, and the shields would hold against any debris that might have drifted in their path. Her gaze remained focused on the navigation panel, fingers deftly sliding along the controls to bring the ship along the safest recorded path. The sudden blare of the klaxon caused her to jump in her seat slightly, but it was silenced just as quickly so she paid no more mind to it. Heart hammered in her chest as the planet grew closer and closer, and as they finally slipped into orbit she released the breath she hadn't been aware of holding. "We're in orbit, Captain. Commander, if you could send me rendezvous coordinates, I'll get the drones down to you." With the autopilot set to maintain orbit, Syl keyed in the commands to transfer helm to the secondary station and activate the drones. The retractable panel slid down in front of her, and she retrieved the visor from the small compartment. It had been awhile since she'd used the drones, but she had put in so many hours of practice after the mission in the Melkon system that it was almost as easy as starting up a shuttle. Once the visor was in place, she toggled the view and watched as the exterior hatch on the ship's hull lifted to reveal the vast darkness of space. She guided the drones carefully out of their hold, and brought them around to face the planet. It was truly breathtaking from this point of view... Part of her wished she could transfer the optics to the viewscreen so the others could see it, and part of her enjoyed having something that was just hers. A small smile lifted her lips as she ran the drones through a few formations to make sure they were all in working order while she waited for the coordinates from the shuttle.

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Shuttlecraft Daintree ] Quinn listened carefully over the comms as the discussion spilled over to the rest of the bridge. There were some sound ideas and observations made by everyone. Most notably was the suggestion to use the drone system aboard the Mac. Isaiah had not had the opportunity to see them in action firsthand, but did recall how effective they had been when the crew of the Mac had encountered that AI system in the Melkon system.[fn]S2M7: Requiem[/fn] As the discussion continued, he and Banyss began to work ahead, anticipating their own part in this. It wasn't long before Captain Baker began to issue her orders.
At the mention of the subroutine Chief Som was patching together, Isaiah nodded at Banyss to repart to download the subroutine and activate it as part of the scanning protocols. He proceeded to lay in a course to enter orbit of Irani Prime. =A= Understood, Captain," =A= Isaiah said over the comms. =A= "Preparing to enter Irani Prime's atmosphere, now." =A= Isaiah took helm control and began to move into the shuttle into a steady descent.
It didn't take long before the shuttle was struck with a heavy jarring of turbulence. Several alarms and alerts sounded. Isaiah was actually grateful that the Daintree wasn't openly broadcasting every single signal for the Bridge to hear. "Transfer auxiliary power to inertial dampenrs!" he said as the shuttle continued to jar violently.
The Edosian's hands moved over his console to compensate as ordered. "I've got it," Banyss said. The shuttle ceased it's violent jostling and both men breathed a sigh of relief. "Structural integrity holding steady, Commander."
Isaiah nodded approvingly. "Good. Now, let's see if we can lock onto that signal. It's coming in much clearer now. Looks like, somewhere in the western portion of that southern continent." Isaiah maintained the shuttles altitude at the level that he had indicated, not dropping below that minimum he had set. As the shuttle moved across the ocean, which seemed to be violently raging due to the gravimetric stress the planet was under, word from the Mac came through. It was slightly garbled, but Banyss quickly jumped on things to clean it up. =A= "Forwarding coordinates now, Lieutenant," Isaiah said. =A= "Mind the turbulance on the way in with the drones. Our ETA to the rendezvous coordinates... four minutes." =A=

[Syl & Isaiah]
Once the drones were in place, there would be some turbulence and one of them started to malfunction because of it. However despite the interference, Syl would be able to confirm that the signal was indeed coming from the western side of the large Island that dominated most of the southern continent. Furthermore once Syl and the Daintree began to receive data, they would be able to narrow the location down to a chasm roughly 10km beneath the surface. Although they would only be able to pinpoint possible lifesigns for the moment.
[Mac]
Meanwhile on the ship, the crew would be tested as the Mac experienced similar turbulence. They would at most be able to remain in orbit for a further 60 minutes before the gravimetric forces and the incoming path of destruction from the collapsed star would make it impossible for them to stay.

[ Thea - Bridge, USS Mac] As the crew began to acknowledge and carry out her orders, Thea didn't rest by any means or simply sit still. This was unknown territory that they were about to move into and yet couldn't but grin slightly as Left Ear practically sprang to the turbolift. For a moment Thea was reminded of how keen she used to be and sure enough it didn't take long for the Sivaoan to return with as many kits as she deemed necessary. Then came the shrill of the Klaxons, making Thea wince briefly even though she was used to hearing them. A quick apology then followed from Bremmer and Thea turned to look at the security officer. " It's okay Crewman" she said reassuringly, understanding that it hadn't been done on purpose. Her attention then shifted as Syl announced that the Mac was now in orbit of the planet, before the pilot spoke directly to Isaiah and the Daintree. The situation wasn't ideal and they were risking a lot being this close but they couldn't of just left and not investigate whilst there was still time. Sure Thea was reassured by Isaiah's voice but she certainly wasn't going to breathe easy until this was resolved. For the time being Thea left this to Syl and the Daintree as Isaiah then sent the coordinates that would be needed for the drones. A reminder of their circumstances then came in the form of turbulence and all Thea could do was issue words of caution. " Hold on .. the best you can ... how are the shields holding?".

[ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Bridge, USS Mac ]Well, at least the Captain took it well enough; it was not like she let it blare for its full official duration, and all that there was left to do was just hold on while the ship crossed the volume of space to Irani and fell into orbit. But it was no easy ride and the Mac was being badly rattled by the stray energies that were being bled from the dying start, it's death throes, so to speak. And something that did not sit very well with Bremmer was the estimate response time they would have once the innermost sensor platforms would pick up the star's explosion and the time they would have to warp out of there. Way out at the inner fringes of the outer system, they would have easily forty minutes or more; in Irani's orbit, they would have no more than five or six. And while she could not compute the shield's tolerances herself, the computer could... and it wasn't good. They would not have a minute in which they could withstand the blast once the initial burst of energy would reach them; in fact, they wouldn't even have a second. And, the Captain had to ask about the shields... "Stable, Captain. But the radiation levels are obscene right now and... oh kurva."So far as Eliska could tell, the Universal Translator wasn't picking up on her native language, but one would hardly need such a device to understand that it was an invective all right. "Neutrino levels are rising fast. According to the initial clock we had anywhere between three and six hours before the star would go but right now computer calls it and hour, maybe less. And if I'm reading the radiation levels right, we might want to wear suits if we're going down there, and even then we wouldn't have long."

[ SCPO Kaya Som | Engineering ]Kaya made her acknowledgements to the bridge and began directing her people into place with her usual briskness, making up for her smaller stature with a bigger attitude. "Djigo, T'Sen, Thorsdottir - drop everything and work on sensors. I'll get that subroutine to the Daintree. And someone, ja'kala, babysit the shields. No radiation death, please! Choi! Why are you walking? It's red alert! Run! Oh, vek'tema with the turbulance!" The ship had begun to shake and a dozen notifications started pinging with alerts about structural braces, stabilizing force fields, and inertial dampeners. "Call up reserve shift!" she ordered, knowing full well how much it used to piss her off to get called out of bed for an emergency shift, back when she was a crewman. "Just once Baker could drop us a little warning," Kaya griped, her fingers flying across the panel. =/\= "Engineering, Bridge - we're working on sensors, but trying to keep the ship from falling apart. Boosting power to structural integrity and inertial dampeners. Daintree should have the reception sub-routine as soon as we get a comms window. Tell helm that a straight line would be nice, thanks!" =/\= Thea Baker

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - USS Mac - Bridge]Between trying to keep the drones on course, and attempting to not be thrown from her seat as the ship experienced the same turbulence, Syl had to fight against the nausea turning her stomach and was very grateful for the implant preventing what would have otherwise been a horrific migraine. "I can't fly the drones and the ship at the same time, Captain," she called over her shoulder. If there was someone else flight-qualified who could stabilize the Mac, she wouldn't argue about them taking the seat beside her to do so. Her hands braced against the console in front of her as she watched the planet's surface pass below the drones. There was a part of her mind - the explorer that every Starfleet officer had within them - that realized she was among the last to ever see this particular view. It was honor that she would cherish for the rest of her life. But for now she had a job to focus on, and guided the four drones towards the rendezvous point sent by the Daintree. When one faltered, she made a quick note on which one was having trouble for the repair team when they got back, but soon enough each were in working order again.

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Bridge] Left Ear spread her feet and put one hand against the bulkhead to brace herself as the ship hit turbulence. Her tail also pressed down to give her a little extra balance. The cadet listened as the technical vocabulary flew, understanding little of what was said, but one bit stood out to her. Left Ear crouched beside her medical bag and sifted through it for a moment before coming up with a hypospray and cylinder of liquid, which she jammed in the dispenser. ' I have a shot that can help with the radiation,' she offered helpfully, glancing between Eliska and Thea. Tag Eliska Bremmer and Thea Baker

[Bridge - USS Mac] Gripping the sides of the command chair in the hope that it would be enough against the continued turbulence. Thea was grateful for the distraction when Bremmer answered her about the status of the shields. That was something positive at least until she was informed about the radiation. Not that it should be much of a surprise considering they were in orbit of a planet that was hours away from complete destruction. If they got out of this unscathed then that truly would be a miracle. " Understood Petty Officer and let's hope we don't have to go down to the planet" she replied, knowing that would be a last resort. Hopefully the combined efforts of the drones and Daintree would negate such action. Then came a call from Engineering from a not too happy Chief, making Thea add a mental note to make it up to everyone once they were safely away from the planet. =/\= Acknowledged Chief and I'll do what I can, no promises but I don't intend to keep us here for longer than necessary =/\= She didn't want that to be an empty compromise but until they found out what was going on down on the surface, they had to do their best. The comment that followed from Syl was equally understandable. " I know Lieutenant, do your best that's all I can ask of you, all of you".Left Ear spoke next and Thea appreciated her suggestion of using the radiation shot. Of course it wouldn't hurt to administer it to everyone present now rather than later and so gave that order. " If you could give everyone the Bridge that shot, then arrange for medical teams to do the same for the rest of the crew".Thea wasn't going to play favourites and besides it would cover more ground and allow everyone on the ship to be protected.

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Bridge] ' Yes, Captain,' Left Ear said. She tapped her combadge and contacted Sickbay first relaying the captain's orders and knowing that the staff there would get it done. Then the Sivaoan proceeded to make her way around the Bridge, stopping at each station to administer the injection that would give each person's body resistance to radiation for a time. It would vary from person to person and Left Ear would have to keep tabs on everyone's readings to ensure that no one was getting too high a dose. There was some time to treat after exposure overcame the hypo, but that was even more limited and the longer exposure continued, the less likely it was that the doctors would be able to effectively treat all of the injuries caused. Left Ear stopped at the helm first, wanting to get Syl's shot done early and distract her as little as possible. Tag Syl O'Connell
