[ Thea - Triage Tent, LZ1, Kerelia] Thea didn't particularly like having to be firm when it came to speaking to Xiiv, but felt as though it was warranted, given how the Ensign had come across. The CMO appreciated that it hadn't been your typical first meeting with the Boss and emotions were running high due to danger they were currently in. Still she hoped that this wouldn't be a regular thing, were there was clash of knowledge and personalities, but time would only tell. For now, she needed her orders to be fulfilled and carried out, because after all, she was in charge and the chain of command had to be respected. Although for a moment, it seemed as though Quinn was trying to tell them something. Thea moved a little closer, as the scientist spoke, making out what he was trying to say. If she didn't know better, it felt as though he was giving suggestions about their situation. " I'll keep that in mind Quinn" she replied, making a mental note to pass it onto the others outside, thinking it may be of some use, even if he couldn't say a lot. Leaving Xiiv to give him so more water, Thea began to turn off what she could, before Xiiv answered her. Thea listened as she explained herself, gaining some further insight into the other woman, who wasn't too dissimilar to Thea, in a way as she wasn't the only one who had seen conflict, dealt with surgeries and had thought of wanting to get Quinn to proper medical facilities. She was well aware, how much quicker it would be to treat him and have him patched up. However given their current situation, it was a case of doing what they could, get him stable and move him when it was safe to do so. She understood how Xiiv felt with being sore, tired and frustrated but that's where they differed on how to handle it and how to carry on regardless of what they couldn't do. It was a case of get on with it as she herself had learned on Epsilon. " I appreciate how you feel at the moment, this isn't an ideal situation and we have to do what we can, even if, it means we have to rely on our skills without the things we need. I've seen my fair share of conflict and surgeries, I'm aware of the risks and you're not the only one, who would prefer to get him fixed up elsewhere. But given the situation, I at least want to get him stable, until we get the samples from the creature and I need you to follow my orders".Having acknowledged and hopefully show Xiiv, that she cared and respected what was said, Thea smiled as Hust responded with a raised arm, as he focused on Costa. Noticing how the Captain looked at them, before making the offer of them taking Quinn to the Dog and how he had some good ideas. Thea couldn't argue with that and if they could take him to the Freighter, than that would give him a better chance. It also felt like a sharp dose of reality, as with everything, she hadn't thought of asking to take him there. " I agree, he does and if we can take him to the Dog, that would be brilliant".Yes they were still waiting on the samples, so they could create the antibody, but at least they would be close by and give Quinn, the help he needed, without risking him further.

She was already moving to sterilse her hands once more. Honestly, the Ensign didn't even need to be awake for this part. Cauterising the bleed and repairing the damaged blood vessel was what she'd liked to have done first and they were slippery things in all but very few creatures. Amarande did not possess any more hands than any other person in this room. " I am able to hold if you would like to repair," she said in the same quiet, contained voice she'd used the entire time. " It will need the both of us if we are to stabilise him properly. Once we have done so, he will be ready to move." The quicker they were in, the quicker they would finish. [NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - LZ-1, Kerelia]Doug followed the others' lead, setting up makeshift wheels for the cart. However, he pushed it. "I once tricked a Greater PooDoo into carrying my equipment, you know?" he recalled. "I got a pretty mean scratch from it afterwards, but it was nice. I wish I had one here now."This brought Doug another idea. "You know, if we're going to have to deal with these animals long-term, we should try to leverage their natural predators, which I figure might be the Greater PooDoo," he suggested. "But, that's a matter for later. We've got equipment, and we have to wire it all together. Just gonna need to figure out, for later, how we can tame Greater PooDoos for longer than 20 minutes, or how we'll handle their mating season; that gets messy."As usual, Doug was only slightly engaged in the immediate needs of the situation, as he concocted this grand plan. Tom pulled the cart as he listened to Sir Doug’s comment. He was grateful that the man was helping him by pushing the cart but it felt for him that he was doing most of the work. He mentioned that he could have trained an animal to do the work he would have done. “No offense, Sir Doug. I would be ok with a mule or a horse instead of me being the mule . Tom mentioned as he continued focused on moving. He was not talking as much as he focused his energy to pushing the cart. Although his theories of domesticating and using animals was hardly groundbreaking. At the moment, Tom was focused on staying alive. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]Felicity definitely did have a point. If Antoinette Ellis had been aware that Thomas Jett was within ten light-years of her daughter and crew, let alone talking to her, or assisting on an away mission, she'd likely burst multiple blood vessels. Then she'd quietly rage until such time as she could exact her revenge. It wouldn't be pretty, for either of them. She shook her head, ponytail swinging back and forth when Jett distracted her by casually dropping more historical pop culture references. Sometimes she got them, other times, like now, she was clueless. "Whoever this JJ Abrams is, he doesn't get a say I'm afraid. It'll be GNR or white noise," she asserted with a small grin. After that she mostly tuned out the back and forth between Jett and Sir Doug. She was naturally very curious about the Greater PooDoos, and had hoped to see one, but for that very moment the problem these creatures presented had a lot more consequences than most people might realise, and that dominated her thoughts. If Felicity and her people didn't collect enough information to act on, then their first foray into the frontier would have failed before it had even begun. She wasn't so blind to her mission that she would ignore the potential damage they were causing to this planet, but neither could she just expect the brass to accept the current status quo when they were expecting so much more. Once they'd passed into the jungle beyond the LZ, Felicity held up a hand, then tapped her lips in a request for quiet. She didn't think that the creatures would respond to the noises they were making; their obsession seemed to be their camp and their tech, but that didn't mean she wanted to push that working theory too far, either. She moved through the brush, following a similar path to the one they'd trod earlier. They'd been a little more enthusiastic then; happier, pleased to be in this beautiful place. It was still beautiful, she thought, though perhaps it just wasn't meant for them. When she reached the clearing where they'd found her smashed tricorder, she stopped. "Let's set up here," she suggested in a quiet voice to the others. The cacophony of the screaming beasts had lessened considerably the further away they'd ventured. "Once the decoy is ready, I'll head due east, toward that cave system the civilians mentioned." “Fine Guns and Roses it is. But you need to pick the song. And I do reserve the right to laugh at you if you pick a bad one, Captain. . Tom responded to her statement about GNR with a smile. In reality, he would not care that much about the song but it was something that would help them calm down. Sometimes arguing about stupid things keeps the mind away from the bigger things. Right now it was about their survival. As the Captain pointed about the spot, Tom stopped and took a breath. “Man that sucked”. He said as he was obviously fatigued from pulling the equipment to their site. Thankfully they were not attacked so it gave credence to the theory that they might not be hostile. Under the right circumstances. “All right, let get this done” . He said. He did his part as he was building the tech to set up the diversion. He tried to do the best he could to make the device but he was hardly an Engineer. He knew enough to get him by, but this was hardly his area of expertise. “No offense Sir Doug, but once we activate this. I predict we will be swarmed like crazy. So once it’s done, I suggest that two of us get a head start before the person that activates it run away like it’s going out of style.” . Tom said he looked at Felicity and said “How fast do you run?” . Tom asked. He was athletic but he was not sure at her level. They both knew the general direction that they needed to head which was the Cave.

Tom listened to Doug’s instructions as he was asked to put things on the Cart instead of carrying it, which made more sense. It would be slower but they could carry the equipment. He began carrying the Tech and the pieces and placed it into the cart. Some of them were big, and some of it were small. As Doug Made the joke to use the Inertial Dampener, Jett responded “As much as I want to. That’s probably a bad idea. I’m pretty sure I can be strong enough to pull it. . Tom said. He kept relatively in Starfleet Shape in Prison and out and his workout is similar to his time in the Dominion Wars. As the process of putting stuff, he listened to Felicity’s comment and nodded “You might have a point there” . He responded as it was probably true if Admiral Ellis found out that she was talking to her daughter. It would be both of their heads on spikes. Tom was not sure but he felt that the woman hated him. Their history was long and complicated one. As they finished the Cart, he looked at it. There was a strap in front of the Cart, which was meant for someone to pull the cart. “This is going to suck” . He strapped the harness on his Body and the man began or tried to walk. He tried to start walking and felt his boots digging into the Dirt. The hard thing was to start the process. As he started he fell into the mud for a second and then slowly began to walk. “God! This is heavy! . Jett complained. As he began moving he heard the music comment and Jett felt “Y’know if J.J. Abrams was here he would request the “Bestie Boys”. The man said as he continues pulling the cart. It was a reference to an ancient earth director. It was a slow process as it had weight but it was better than nothing. “Man…this is barbaric how did people move stuff with only wheels. I will never complain about Transporters Malfunctions ever again” Jett continued complaining as he thought to himself how technology probably spoiled them. "I think we're ready," he said. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]"We did," Felicity confirmed when Doug remembered that they'd decided on Welcome to the Jungle, her light tone not at all reflective of how she was feeling inside. "I'm glad someone was paying attention." She glanced sideways at Jett, the small smile intending to lessen the sting from her words. Then as the older El-Aurian got to work, she followed suit. A quiet descended as they worked; cobbling together the elements that they needed to implement this ridiculous plan. With PADD in hand, she ran a very simple diagnostic of their solitary field tower to ensure that with the extra modifications it would function as it was supposed to. Once Sir Doug seemed pleased enough with the Frankenstein creation to wander off and prepare the fire, Felicity reached out to LZ-1. =/\= "Ellis to Oerstadt. We're almost ready here. Standby to power down basecamp field towers." =/\= Taking one of the isolinear chips from the pouch that she'd pilfered from the storage containers, she slipped it into one of the tower receivers. When Jett approached and asked after her fitness level and speed she looked up, and almost snorted. "Fast enough for you, old man," she shot back. There was no Captain she knew of who would delegate this job to their crew, let alone a civilian. No, it was all part of holding the rank. "This is not a discussion, Tom. You and Sir Doug will have a three minute head-start. Go toward the caves, but not directly, of course. You don't want to run straight into a horde of these things."Felicity had no intention of dying in the jungle. At least, not without a nice drink in her hand. As soon as the tower was activated, she'd take off like a bat out of hell. But first, Jett and Doug needed to scarper. The flames from the fires began to lick higher, and the thick, grey smoke was already reaching her lungs. "Time to go."Approximately three minutes later...=/\= "Ellis to Oerstadt and Basecamp. Power down on my mark." The sun was slipping behind the canopies of the trees; night was upon them, finally. Felicity suppressed a shudder, squared her shoulders and tried to mentally prepare herself. "Mark." =/\= She activated everything, and ran. What followed her was the sound of something decidedly not Guns N' Roses. Instead the tower asked: Why Can't We Be Friends?

[ Chief Ozu Saya - LZ 1 - Kerelia] Saya looked doubtfully at the ensign, then raised a brow at Crewman Mehl's suggestion. I do not think I can condone using force to render the creature unconscious unless it is actively attacking someone. She fell almost automatically into a more Vulcan speech pattern. Ensign, while I commend your creativity and desire to treat the creature with respect, at this point, speed is of the essence. We do not have a means of building a soundproofed room; however, I can quickly erect a small space in which you can work.
Perhaps you should retrieve one of the sample collection field kits. I believe several were brought with us. Leave the crate there, she said, pointing to a spot that she judged was as far away from the force field emitters as they could get. Crewman Mehl can assist you by restraining the creature so that you can take the samples you need. She called over a couple of her engineers and explained what she wanted, then helped them set prefab panels in place around the crate, creating a small 8'x 8' room. Tag @lyricsinclair and Felicity Ellis [/quote] [Lyric S- Base-Camp, LZ-1, Kerelia] She wholeheartedly agreed with Saya. Putting down an innocent animal, despite being taken by surprise, wasn't a good way to show you meant no harm. Wild animals would protect what matters the most. Family and territory. Even some humans reacted that way to other humans. It's just a matter of instinct. "I would like that. The sooner we can obtain these samples, maybe we can let this beastie go. I don't want to create any more stress or harm to the beastie." She glanced over to Saya. "Yes please." She answered in regards to the small space. It would suffice as a place to work in and while she carried the crate. Speed was important. "Oh, how about soundproofing the equipment so maybe these beasties won't make any more unexpected visiting sometime in the future?" She suggested.
She set the crate down on the ground, noticing how far it was from the force field emitters. Perhaps soundproofing wasn't needed if the beastie's containment area was far from them. " Would it help?" She thought as she walked off to collect one of those field kits and by the time she got to the erected building, she hoped that things would ease down with the beastie. Maybe if inside, the emitters wouldn't be too loud or noisy to their ears. She wished that these beasties wouldn't be so aggressive. Like the monkey that seemed to have been 'set-free' for the time being and had discovered them as a 'tasty snack'. Lyric found herself shivering with the thought, "Guess we'd make a tasty snack for these beasties." "I definitely could use Ms. Mehl's help in keeping the beastie subdued." She finally admitted. "If you please?"

Jett did his part in making the constructions and of course, let Sir Doug deal with the more technical aspects. He did know how to deal with technology, but how to hack a device and how to build it was different. The man did his part and once it was ready he listened to Doug’s comment to light up fires. The idea was to create a distraction so they can go to the cave. Lighting a fire might also make their area and attract attention or scare them away. The idea is to go to the cave investigation and solve the problem. Preferably peacefully. He did not have a strong opinion one way or another as this was mostly a guessing game and since he was their leading expert He would have to trust him on his opinion about the fires. As Flick mentioned that she was fast enough. Tom thought of interrupting her. He would insist that it would be him the one running. However, he would have guessed that it would be futile. He already tried to talk to her out of the plan and she disagreed. If it were his crew, he would insist. As she gave the instructions he said to Flick “Understood” . He then smiled and said “But I want to note for the record that I think I am faster than you” . He said as his competitive side came out. He would not admit without a fair race that he was slower than her. He looked at Felicity as the fire began and he covered his mouth to stop the smoke. “Good Luck, I’ll meet you in the caves. If you don’t show up, I’ll take it as a sign that you admitting that I am superior to you.” . Tom smiled as he made his statement in jest. She did not need the extra motivation but he figured that statement would make her upset. He was concerned that she would make it out there, but at the same time he needed to focus on keeping himself and Sir Doug alive. In his mind, it was important that they arrived to the caves. As they got the signal Tom started to run but not as fast as he could. He had his pistol and was one of the two major weapons that they had. He would occasionally stop for Sir Doug. Three minutes was time that they were given a head start. As they began the run he would see one of the animals in the distance. Tom raised his fist as a signal for Doug to stop. Tom drew his pistol from his holster. He stood quiet for a second and used a hand signal to indicate to Sir Doug that he saw something. Tom then lowered his body as he tried to get a better look at the creature. As he walked in a lower position. It appeared that the creature either did not notice their presence or it did not care. “It appears that there might be some truth into the theory” . Tom muttered to himself as he observed the creature. It was not long after that he heard the song. “Did Gun and Roses Smoked a joint recently?”. Tom mentioned as it was not expecting that at all. He observed the creature then quickly head to the direction of the tower. “It looks like the plan is working” . Tom mentioned he then mentioned “According to my knowledge the Cave’s should be close by”. Tom said. He heard the song and then looked at Doug. “Do you want to be my date to Jr. Prom?”. He said as he heard the song playing in the background. “I imagine, we can put a Disco Ball in the caves and there only two people to ask You and the Captain. And she is definitely not my type. Some days she drives me nuts. Like right now, it should be me that is running for your life in the jungle, when I can clearly do that, not to mention her mom, she hates me with a passion, but she also is kind and have a sense of humor, and she is soo competitive, and stupid heroism that is going to get herself killed…hey you listening Sir Doug? “ Tom asked if the man was paying attention on his ramble. After the conversation was over he figured since the decoy worked he should try and head to the cave. [Kerelia – Cave] Tom arrived at the cave and with the head start, they would be there waiting. For her, the question would be for how long. “We should wait for her, here” . Tom mentioned. He looked at the Jungle and thought to himself if something happened that it could have been his fault. He should have been the one running for his life. “I hate the waiting part” . Tom commented as he was helpless. The one thing that he strived not to do. To put himself in a situation that his fate is determined by someone else. “Question Sir Doug? You have traveled a lot and seen a lot of places and obviously you have been in this area for years. Have you ever seen this man before?” . Tom said as he pulled a Picture out of his leather vest. He showed and looked closely for his reaction. It was probably a dead end up he would think that the Scientist would be truthful towards him. The man was eccentric but not manipulative or malicious. Or those were his instincts towards Doug. He felt that it was safe to ask him as he doubted the creatures here would not be able to talk. Tag Felicity Ellis Judith Eastman

[NPC - PooDoo - Ark]PooDoo was very displeased to be picked up. She released a loud SCREM and gave Caroline a disappointed, betrayed look. Then, they were flipped over. This terrorized PooDoo more. She was used to existing in all sorts of directions (hanging from climbing structures, leaping, lounging in odd postures), but the suddenness of the transition wasn't to her liking. The little creature made a soft, terrified growling sound, and gently flicked her holder, with claws extended only a little. She was now not angry, so much as scared. And she was starting to feel queasy. [Ensign Lurai Sren - Kerelia - Ark]
Lurai looked towards the wind screen as they flew, watching the sky and the tree tops. Caroline's scans seemed to point to the same conclusion as her own 'scanning'. The poor PooDoo didn't seem to fond of shuttles, poor thing. She could sense its discomfort. Looking at Malik as he spoke, she nodded. ”Aye, sir”, she said jokingly before closing her eyes and taking a deep slow breath. Animals. Tens of thousands. Millions. The planet was alive with thoughts and emotions, like a myriad of little glow-worms crawling around on a dark night. At first she didn't sense the creatures as the distance was too great and the rock of the caves too dense. Taking a few more breaths, she strained her telepathic senses and delved deeper down. The headache returned. Her temples were pounding and she was starting to feel dizzy. The caves extended deep into the mountain, there was a lot of distance to stretch beyond. Her three (four) colleagues, the shuttle and rest of the world fell away completely and all she knew were the echoes of the creatures' emotions and minds. They were there, down in the caves, but they were different than those in the trees. These were... less complex. It was difficult to describe in words. ”Infants”, she mumbled before her head fell forward and her body slumped to one side as she lost consciousness. Thanks to the seatbelt she didn't fall out of her seat.
[Kerelia, Ark] Infants. It made sense now. Nature across the universe followed the same general principles, to reproduce, protect and ensure their genetic material was passed on to future generations. These creatures had not only likely attacked due to their territory being trespassed on by space-aliens, but they had a bunch of baby monsters to protect. "So they were probably attacking to protect their young, out of fear. It makes sense, right? I mean, I'm no xeno-biologist, but if space-aliens came down to my home and started making a mess I'd feel pretty threatened and want to protect my own."He then noticed Lurai had fallen asleep, or perhaps unconscious, or dropped dead, he didn't know, he wasn't a doctor either. He turned back to his platform-buddy, "we're stable, safe to unbuckle." He unbuckled his own belt and moved over to Lurai to check her pulse and breathing, she seemed to be alive at least and for that he was thankful. He really didn't want to deal with the paperwork involved with passenger casualties. [Ark - Kerelia] It seemed somehow in Caroline’s struggle to secure PooDoo and get strapped in, the creature had wriggled herself upside down. Carefully, while attempting to avoid the worst of the felinoid’s clawed swipes, she righted the creature, and set her down once Malik gave them the all-clear. She hoped the little creature wasn’t too upset with her, perhaps scooping PooDoo up had been slightly over protective, though well intentioned. After unstrapping herself, she removed her light jacket and set it on the floor as well. PooDoo seemed to like hiding in her bag when she was scared, maybe she’d want to hide in the jacket. It was an attempt at amends. Once past the fluffy distraction, Caroline returned to the matter at hand. Ensign Sren’s condition and what she’d found. She stood up and walked over to where Malik was examining the seemingly unconscious Sren. ”Being aggressively protective of their young does make a lot of sense, especially if we were encroaching on what they perceive to be their mating or nesting grounds. We should inform the Captain right away.” Since Malik seemed to assert Sren was not dead or in immediate danger, Caroline tapped her commbadge to deliver the message herself. =/\= ”Lt. Riordan to Captain Ellis. We tracked the creatures to the caves. Ensign Sren sensed young, infantile creatures in the depths. We believe the caves and the surrounding area could possibly be utilized by the creatures for mating or nesting purposes. The aggressive creature behavior might just be survival instincts to protect their young. Riordan out.” =/\= Message sent, she could now focus on the young Betazoid woman. She grabbed a medical scanner from the shuttle's med kit, and confirmed her previous diagnosis. The woman’s paracortex had been stressed to its limit. Softly, she clucked her tongue and spoke quietly to Malik. ”Sren’s been pushing her empathic abilities too hard. To put it simply, it’s a little like if you try to hold your breath too long, you pass out before you can actually suffocate yourself. I’m not a proper medical doctor, but I think if we just let her rest, she should come out of it on her own. Maybe help her by reclining the chair some, and propping her feet up? She should definitely get checked out fully once we return.”Caroline frowned, clearly upset with herself for not being able to offer a better answer.

[MedTent]
As Alex finished up the work on Costa, he heard her doing what he figured was an effort to distract her from the fact that she was being sewn up like a doll that had been clawed at by an overzealous pet. However, he still had a job to do regardless of her teasing. That didn't mean he couldn't fire back at her a little, as he muttered under his breath loud enough for her to hear, "Mi nah gif to rowm ye." Booze would dull the pain, but it wasn't like he had any ale sitting in his bag with him. All of that was hidden or under lock and key on the ship, behind a sealed and locked sickbay that only he could get into - as far as he knew.
As he finished the last loop, pulled tight, and cut off the stitching, he inspected it briefly with his fingers and dabbed at it with antiseptic to ensure the blood flow was staunched and it was more or less cleaned up. Provided he found nothing wrong (despite the extra jabs of pain he likely inflicted with his poking and prodding) he'd attempt to cover up the wound with dressings, at least until they got back to the ship.
He heard her offer up the ship but knew better in this instance than to talk back to his Captain. He would be picking up another patient, but ultimately this was his Captain's attempt at diplomacy. Perhaps they'd get something out of it, insofar as they helped replace the supplies they took up from him. Who knows, he might be able to trade up for what they use if he helped. He measured his words carefully as he spoke. "Strength in numbers. More o' us who go, louder we can be, scare off ányimal maybe? Get off dis wel so we can get back to our tech."
He followed up the thoughts with a little disclaimer, as the odds of Starfleet wanting to poke around the Dog was more than a little disconcerting. "No questions asked, though. It's a kilometer to da Dog unless Baggy bring her here?"

She wholeheartedly agreed with Saya.
"If you please?" [Crewman Mehl, daughter of K'tozh - LZ-1, Kerelia]The crewman's top lip raised a little in a snarl at the Chief's refusal to apply force to the problem. Then, when the scientist continued yammering on about not causing stress to the vermin, Mehl found herself wondering how the human race had survived. These creatures had attacked them, caused bodily damage to them and destroyed their equipment. Drawing it a hot bath and bringing it its fluffy slippers was not a rational response, as far as she was concerned. But she followed orders and assisted with the assembly of the pre-fab as much as she could, all the while keeping an eye on the screaming things still trying to get through their defenses. She should have been out there, thinning the herd. As the walls were being fixed around the crate, Mehl stepped inside and readied herself to subdue their enemy. The klingon nodded at both the Chief and the Ensign. "Stay back," she advised, her throaty voice low. She leaned into a ready stance, her knees bent, her weight resting on the balls of her feet. With one swift movement, she kicked the crate over and pounced. This time, she got the drop on it. The fact that this creature was not the same as the one that had maimed her meant little to Mehl in that moment, she was intent on the task at hand. She dropped to her knees as her strong arms closed around it, pinning its claws to its sides. The thing continued screaming and thrashed all the while, causing Mehl to tightened her hold. "Take your sample, Scientist!"

“Fine Guns and Roses it is. [NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - Jungle, Kerelia]"We said we'd do Welcome to the Jungle, didn't we?" Doug asked on the topic of the song. "Which, in some sense, is what they should be singing to us. Anyway, before we turn it on, I'd like to start some fires, since we've seen they're not fire-resistant."Doug focused his efforts on the trickier aspects of the technology, configuring what would end up a technological monstrosity. He then flipped a few switches and pushed a few buttons. "All we need to do is turn on the power bank, and it'll come to life, music and all," he announced. Then, he located some patches of leaves a short ways away, set fallen branches on fire, and threw those towards the relevant piles. Being still somewhat damp, the things made a lot of smoke.
Tags: Thomas Jett , Judith Eastman (Doug) and Damian Oerstadt . Update for all in LZ-1. Tag Felicity Ellis Judith Eastman [NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - Jungle -> Caves]Doug was more than a little dismayed about not being sent back to LZ-1, but he did his best to hide that. He acknowledged the orders and went along with Jett, showing fine stamina for an ancient being, before Jett began talking at him, about junior prom and various other things. "I think you have the hots for the captain," he observed bluntly. "Can't blame you, but I will warn that it can't last. She's married to the job."Doug had had enough experience with women - enough divorces - to have a certain perspective on the fairer sex that he found useful. At last, at the caves, Jett showed Doug an unfamiliar man's picture. The particulars of the man's look had a distinct vibe to them. "Mr. Jett, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but does everyone in your circles dress like a stripper?" he asked.

[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Triage, LZ-1, Kerelia] He felt the pressure against his lips once again, and sipped the water. He rested his head against the mat and stared up at the ceiling of the tent. He then felt a cool chill ripple through his body. Still the shrieking continued in the background. He exhaled softly as another chill rushed throughout. "It's... c-cold," he stammered, though his forehead was damp with perspiration. As he exhaled again, the air escaped raggedly as he shivered slightly. Of course, it was still as balmy as it had been before he came in the tent, which is what you would expect in a tropical climate. He had witnessed the exchange between Thea and Xiiv. Was the frustration of the situation getting to them? He hated to be a burden... especially right now. If he could get up and make himself useful elsewhere, he certainly would have. He tried to refocus on his words once more, but hearing Costa and her medic exchanged a few words stole his attention. Yet, the mention of his own name and 'good ideas' seemed to give him some comfort. Perhaps he wasn't delirious after all. "Th--...Th--" he had tried to speak. Instead, he clinched his hand and weakly presented a thumbs up, hoping the Belter Captain could see his gratitude. Perhaps they would make it out of there. It was beginning to look like Thea and Xiiv were on the same page. Even as Thea stepped away and began shutting down some of the equipment in the tent. It was only a small comfort that he'd seen her move and do so to a few of the machines. Otherwise, he would have been alarmed at the growing dimness within the tent. Even as his eyelids grew heavy once more, eventually obscuring his eyes altogether. [ Ensign Amarande Xiiv - Triage Tent, LZ1, Kerelia] " I have not been disobeying them," Amarande said, knowing that her manner might seem brusque but that was probably the Vulcan in her, " but confirming we can use the proper tools to get this done quickly and efficiently, which I have now done." She was already moving to sterilse her hands once more. [MedTent] As Alex finished up the work on Costa, he heard her doing what he figured was an effort to distract her from the fact that she was being sewn up like a doll that had been clawed at by an overzealous pet. Get off dis wel so we can get back to our tech." He followed up the thoughts with a little disclaimer, as the odds of Starfleet wanting to poke around the Dog was more than a little disconcerting. "No questions asked, though. It's a kilometer to da Dog unless Baggy bring her here?" [Costa - Medtent, LZ-1]At Hust's admonishment of her sarcastic teasing, she almost smiled. Had she not been in the process of being barbarically mutilated, she might have even laughed. Costa had a strange sense of humour, though the situation in the tent wasn't exactly hilarious. She continued to watch the two doctors grapple for some kind of weird professional upper-hand, the frown on her forehead a result of her concentration on them, and on not passing out with the pain. "Pashangwala!" She forced out again through clenched teeth as her doctor poked mercilessly at the wounds he'd just tried to heal. With the application of the dressings, however, she began to calm. She instinctively knew when he was finished, and moved to stand up, pulling her top back over her injuries. As she tried to tuck the hem into her trousers a bout of dizziness caused her to sway a little on her feet. She steadied herself quickly enough, but a wave of shivers ran through her. For the first time since she'd arrived on Kerelia, she was cold. "Can have Baggy bring im 'ere," Costa confirmed use of the Dog as she slowly turned her head to look at Hust. "Can park where the Sodzha bucket was." Then she switched pretty fluidly to give the order. "Du-showxa wit im. Sasa ke?" She had handed her communicator to the Chief, but she still wanted her people to be completely aware of what was coming onboard, and Hust could deliver that message in a way that would leave no doubt. Then she returned her attention to the others as they gathered around Quinn. "Be less distance for im ta travel. Pack im up when ya ready, an' then we can try out tha' warp field idea of his."With a quick hand gesture behind her back, she signaled to Hust to follow her outside, before stepping away from the medical personnel herself.

[ Thea - Triage Tent, LZ1, Kerelia] At the response that Xiiv gave her about how she hadn't disobeyed orders and how she was only confirming so they could use the proper equipment to help Quinn. Thea decided not to take this particular conversation any further, especially now that she had accepted Costa's offer of using the Dog's facilities to help Quinn. Besides their patient was the priority at the moment and not the matter of whether orders were followed or not, even though Thea hadn't accused her of such. So as Xiiv moved off to sterilise her hands, Thea took a breath, before she also cleaned up and prepared to stabilise the Science Officer. When the Ensign then informed her that she would hold, if Thea wanted to repair, the CMO had intended to do that anyway. A nod of acknowledgement to what was said, knowing exactly what she meant as that's what they needed to do. Moving towards the bio bed, where Quinn was laid asleep, after his last attempt to talk to him, she was determined not to fail him. As much as she had wanted to wait for the antibody, the risks were far too great to keep him in his current condition and if they could fix, the wound, even it was temporary for now, then that's what they would do. A hypospray to keep him pain free, was then administered as Costa got up from the bed, that Hust had placed her on, after talking with Hust about the Dog. Thea looked over at the Freighter Captain, as she spoke to them directly and mentioned what the plan would be, in order to move the Dog closer, what to do with Quinn and how they could then test his idea. " Understood and thank you, both of you, for your help, we should have him ready to move shortly".With Costa then leaving, Thea returned her focus to Quinn, picking up what she needed to cauterise the blood vessel. Guiding it carefully and once that had been completed successfully, the CMO then proceeded to repair the damaged blood vessel, aware of how tricky it could be, but luckily was able to do that. Standing back, all she needed to do now was clean the excess blood away and place a dressing and bandage around it, should the creature's saliva cause any further problems. " Okay, hopefully that should hold for the time being, we'll leave him for now, until the Dog gets here".

[...] [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]Felicity rolled her eyes and shook her head when he claimed he'd take her absence at the caves as a sign of her admitting defeat. In response, she deadpanned, "Take it as a sign that I'm dead. Send my dismembered corpse and a corsage to my widow." She reassured herself that both men would be fine, that if they steered clear of the creatures' paths they'd avoid any further encounters. They'd be well away before she pulled the trigger. She hoped. "Stay safe," she told both of them, three minutes before crunch time. She ran; loud, invasive music at her back. Riordan out.” =/\= At the sound of Riordan bursting through her comm, Felicity slowed. She reached out and pressed her palm against a nearby tree trunk, sucking in greedy breaths as her mind rushed to catch up to the counselor's words. She turned back around to face the direction she had come, eyes making out very little in the dark, but drawn automatically toward the tops of the fires Sir Doug had lit before he'd left. The music was still blaring, but she could hear other noises now, too. Noises from the jungle and the screams of the creatures once again, growing louder as they closed in on the clearing. Her eyes followed the billowing smoke and she fervently hoped that the El-Aurian was as experienced with fire as he claimed. This terrible plan could always be made even worse if they were leaving a burning rain-forest in their wake. At least now, with the report from their people in the air, they had some sort of explanation as to the aggressive behaviour of the locals. =/\= "Thank you, Lieutenant, Ark team. Well done." She spoke softly, still somewhat out of breath. They may just be able to make out the music in the background. "That tracks with everything we've seen so far. I need you to check out LZ-2 for me; the coordinates should already be in the database. See if you can find any sign of these creatures there and along the coast. Then get back to basecamp as soon as you can, I really don't think we need to be spending the night here. Ellis out." =/\= At the sound of rustling in the canopies above her, Felicity's hand tightened around Jett's pistol. With one more glance back toward the clearing she turned and took off toward the caves once more. Less than ten seconds later, the music died. ~~~[Caves, Kerelia] The many had left the safety of home. Those that remained were curious, young, not yet in possession of a developed survival instinct. They wondered where all of the others had gone and wondered what was outside of the only home they'd ever known. With no others there to stop them, they began to explore. Once they'd reached the mouths of the caves, their snouts turned upward, sniffing the freedom and the spicy newness of the outside world.

Tag @lyricsinclair and Felicity Ellis [Lyric S- Base-Camp, LZ-1, Kerelia] She wholeheartedly agreed with Saya.
Tags @lyricsinclair and Ozu Saya [ MCPO Ozu Saya - LZ 1 - Kerelia] Saya found herself inside the small structure once she and the crewman had finished throwing it up around the crate. When Mehl knocked over the crate and grabbed the creature, she took a rapid step back, bumping into the wall by the door. I believe I will leave this to you, Ensign and Crewman. You appear to have things under control. She scooted out the door, opening it only wide enough for her to squeeze through and keeping a close eye inside to make sure Mehl didn't lose hold of the violent little beast. “Fine Guns and Roses it is. "I think we're ready," he said. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia][...] With PADD in hand, she ran a very simple diagnostic of their solitary field tower to ensure that with the extra modifications it would function as it was supposed to. Once Sir Doug seemed pleased enough with the Frankenstein creation to wander off and prepare the fire, Felicity reached out to LZ-1. =/\= "Ellis to Oerstadt. We're almost ready here. Standby to power down basecamp field towers." =/\= [...] Approximately three minutes later...=/\= "Ellis to Oerstadt and Basecamp.
Tags: Thomas Jett , Judith Eastman (Doug) and Damian Oerstadt . Update for all in LZ-1. Outside, she took a deep breath and looked around. There was activity around the medtent, and the captain was nowhere in sight. Saya spotted Oerstadt by one of the force field emitters and headed over, just in time to hear Captain Ellis' voice come through his combadge with orders to shut down the field on her command. They were shutting down the field? Why? There had to be a good reason, and another glance around the clearing didn't reveal the captain anywhere in sight. She must have come up with a plan to clear the creatures from the landing zone which necessitated the removal of the shields. It actually made some sense. She jumped when the music blasted from somewhere in the jungle, and her fist came down on the key to shut down the force fields. Obviously, there was something out there meant to draw them off. When the field went down, the creatures heads turned toward the jungle, then they started slowly moving in the direction of the music.

[Lyric S- Base-Camp, LZ-1, Kerelia]
Lyric couldn't help but fault the beastie's attack as her brain worked to think of how a predator would attack an unknown adversary. The thought was lost on her mind as she couldn't help but mention a few things.
"These beasties could be protecting something more important than their lives. They can be protecting their own young and territory from us. On my world, in the old days, humans used to go into the woods, intruding on some animals' territory. Encountering them was a 50/50 chance of either being attacked or not being attacked. The only reason why a predator would attack is to protect their young or their den." She explained. "Mother bears would protect their young from other bears, even humans who had the unfortunate meeting with them. As humans developed cities, the territory that these animals called home were encroached on. Humans intruded in their territories, making those animals move out of the area in search of a new place." There wasn't much difference than predator and prey here.
Maybe, on second thought, the beasties were like wild savage Tasmanian Devils. They sure were noisy. "On second thought, maybe they're like the marsupials, Tasmanian Devils. They make more noise than any small animal like them." Lyric pointed out as she watched the Klingon get a hold of the beastie, pinning it's claws and so forth. She also noticed when Saya backed out to avoid getting harmed by the beastie. Lyric didn't want Saya, or Mehl, or herself to get hurt. Wild animals contained in a small enclosed space wouldn't fair well to anyone in the vicinity. She was focused on when to step forward and retrieve her samples. Putting on her gloves, she took her items from the field kit and started to scrape some of the skin for a better analysis. Then she took a large vial of saliva, and capped it. Then she worked on a syringe and needle. She settled for one of the held claws and drew three large vials of blood from the beastie. She placed the items safely in the field kit and thought about other ways to make an observations on the critter. "Maybe the reason why blood wouldn't coagulate is because there's a neurotoxin in the saliva and it's venomous. This means that this thing is like a rattlesnake or a cobra. Bite first, ask no questions later."
Lyric removed the gloves after obtaining all the samples she needed. Now she could go to the medi-tent and help the doctors with her findings.
"Thank you," She said to Mehl. "for your assistance." She wondered what would happen to the beastie. But her time was more important. She poked her head out, hoping that Saya was there. She was walking away. "I guess confinement back into the crate would suffice?" She wasn't sure whether or not she should tell Ms Mehl that. But confinement seemed much better. They could release it later somehow. "I'm heading to the Triage Tent."
She walked to the Triage Tent. Once inside the Triage Tent, she announced, "I have the samples. Blood, Saliva, and skin cells. I was just thinking about something as I got them. The saliva may have a neurotoxin which prevents coagulation. Is there a way to make antivenom from the saliva without technology? I don't know what it takes to get an anti-venom, but I think we'll need technology to help us with that?" She hoped she wasn't too late with the Dr. Plus, she was starting feel a little warmer than usual. "Is it hot in here or is it me?" She knew she didn't run a marathon or do any exertions other than obtaining samples and brisk walking. She didn't always break out in a sweat from a short brisk walk.
