[Costa - Beyond LZ-1, Kerelia]=//= "Stop orderin' me 'round, owala. Am Hed, no you." =//= He was so bossy. She was on vacation, wasn't she? She could nap in the sun. Costa didn't have to listen to this madness. So she tried to block out the sound of the medic's voice, and let her eyes slide blessedly closed. The corners of her mouth curved upward a little as a peaceful heaviness fell over her, and a soft "Mmmm..." escaped her when someone said something about a bet. She did like those. She liked winning. But then... =//= "WHA'!?" She sat bolt up straight, hand automatically slapping against her temple in attempt to quell the dizzy spell and steady herself, though she barely noticed. "Nah chance, Hust. Would gut ya 'fore I gave my Dog to ya." =//= She barely registered the pain as she considered the prospect of betting her livelihood with that chancer of a doctor. =//= "Over my dead body." =//= Maybe that was the idea. There were many ways in which someone with Hust's experience could do her in - and make it look totally natural. Then he'd claim her ship as his own, and likely none would challenge it. Not even her da. Especially not him. He'd probably be delighted. Suddenly, Costa's mind was working overtime. Her loose grip on the hilt of the machete tightened, and her eyes narrowed. With her free hand, she pressed her palm into a nearby flat rock and tried to push herself up. Even if she was about to keel over and slip into the long sleep, she wanted to do it with her front to her enemies. Alex Hust [Toward Costa] Alex continued to move at speed through the forest, knowing the stubbornness of his Hed she would probably continue to be contrarian to anything said. He let slide the insult toward him. He was used to it. =\\= "In your dreams, Costa." =\\= he said, rolling his eyes as he walked. But, his challenge had sparked the needed response. She was focusing again, and had alertness coursing through her body. At the very least, it staved off dying immediately, or dying from being too tired to fend off an angry animal.
He didn't even pretend to hide the smirk on his face.
=\\= "And WELCOME BACK to th' land o the livin', Cap! Because if you fall asleep, over your det body might just be what I gonya find when I get there. You're concussed, ke? You mean to tell me you wandered off unarmed? Tu talk bik game, but you foolish, kopeng." =\\= he said, sliding quickly back into the more natural language he was used to. Improper grammar, an amalgamation of words, but it was home. =\\= "Good freighter always bring a spare." =\\= =\\= "First, tu got anything to put over where you leaking Belówt? Rag o' near anything do. Put over where you hurt and press hard. Keep your Belówt in you, tu sasa?" =\\= Giving her instructions was hard, but he was coming up on where she was. Hopefully, she'd still be alive when he got there - and also not trying to kill her. But, knowing her, he'd be shot as soon as he entered the clearing. The things he did for his crew.

[Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]Felicity found Jett's response to her questions curious, but beyond a raised brow, she didn't react all that much. Everyone had their own reasons for joining up, she supposed, though the vast majority of them she believed to hold an adventurous spirit or thirst for knowledge. If Jett didn't want to talk about his, she wouldn't press - it really was none of her business. She made a mental note to include Ensign Sinclair in her future expedition to LZ-2; if her enthusiasm about the beach was anything to go by she'd surely be a useful participant. Then she drifted off, smiling softly at the strange exchange involving feces, moving plants, and squires. She followed the hovering line of Fly-Bees until she thought she was nearing what might be their nest. She dropped her pack, placed her tricorder atop it, and moved a little further into the dense bush, all in attempt to get a closer look. She flinched as the voice of their Master Chief broke through the restful noises of nature surrounding her, drowning out the nearby sound of moving water. [ Master Chief Ozu Saya - LZ 1 - Kerelia] =/\= Ozu to Captain Ellis. This is a...courtesy call, if you will. I suggest remaining alert particularly to the tree canopy. There is currently some creature above the clearing, which our Betazoid doctor has informed me is in some kind of pain. I've asked her to continue to monitor it for now. I don't wish to cause further disturbance, unless you believe we should attempt to help the creature. =/\= Saya left the thought dangling as she glanced up into the tree again. The animal wasn't moving, and wasn't visible, but she assumed it was still there. Her own empathic abilities were far too limited to sense anything at that distance. =/\= "No, thank you, Chief. Maintain distance for now, and have Dr. Sren continue to survey, as you suggested." Felicity stood upright, a frown creasing her brow as she glanced up toward the canopies above their heads. As upsetting as it might be to know there was a living creature close by that was experiencing pain, their mission was to minimise their impact. Having her people hanging out of trees, looking for an unknown or unidentified animal wasn't the best idea at that moment. After checking the time on her chronometer, she continued, "If anything changes, let me know. We'll wrap up our excursion here shortly and be back to you within the hour. Ellis out." =/\= She had originally intended on staying out with the science teams for a little longer, but they perhaps only had a couple of hours left of sunlight left, and a basecamp to finish and secure. Besides, if they needed to, she could send out another small team to see if they could spot the injured tree critter. [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Jungle, Kerelia] [...] "We can take a closer look at these later," said Quinn. There was no way they'd be able to run a full analysis in that spot, and it seemed like the Captain was prepared to move on. He took a few moments to take off the jacket of his uniform and pulled up the sleeves of his shirt. After stowing the rest of his gear, he rose to his feet once more and began to move in the direction the Captain had gone. "I guess we may as well figure out what other mysteries this place has for us."As the others began to catch up she turned to address them. "Okay folks, we've got an hour before we've to head back. We're close to the river, I'd like to go a little further and check it out." Just in case they hadn't heard her exchange with Ozu, she pointed upward toward the trees. "Keep an eye and ear out for some company from above." Then she bent to retrieve her backpack and waved Trellgin over as soon as she saw her. "Ensign, I know most civilisations throughout history, both on Earth and elsewhere, have favoured housing themselves near bodies of water. But are there any notable exceptions to that rule?" She asked the archaeologist with some curiosity, wondering as to the preferences of some of the incoming colonists. While she spoke she was searching around for her tricorder. She patted herself down, searching for the device, but it was nowhere to be found. Not on her bag, where she was sure she'd left it, nor attached to her belt... She glanced around the jungle floor. "Anyone seen my tricorder?" Felicity asked then, her tone holding some slight confusion.

”I wonder the same thing”, she replied to Dr. Baker. ”The creature might be confused by our presence, but hopefully we didn't cause its pain.” She didn't like the idea that they would be causing grief for the local fauna, despite their best efforts. Standing near the Chief engineer, she heard the exchange between Saya and the Captain and nodded. It made sense, there was no need to make anything big out of this. ”Acknowledged. I can work on the triage setup and simultaneously observe the creature...” Pausing, she looked up towards the trees again. ”There's two of them now. Both are in pain.” Still no visual sign of the life forms, hidden as they were in the thick foliage. This was getting increasingly intriguing, and worrying.

He also heard her warning about something else out there, and as he moved he undid the clasp on the disruptor pistol and extracted it from his leg holster, thumbing the safety off as the soft whine of charging started. It'd not been easy to get his hands on one of these, or to keep it away from Fleet. Romulan disruptors had no stun setting. Any level shot more than a glancing blow could kill. [Rylonis Trellgin - Jungle, Kerelia] Rylonis listened to the other scientists as she took in the area around them as they walked. Her brain was swarming as it came up with a million theories and hypothesis. She wasn't sure even where to begin. Then she was suddenly pulled out of her thoughts by the captain and she straightened up. " Well, ma'am, the Arkonian's are not a water based race, in fact, they do not have sweat glands. And if I recall their history correctly, their own planet was only about 20 to 30 percent water. The plants and such there focused more on solar and night time growth. Their drink of preference is this brown goop type substance that is not very palatable to most other races," she explained. " During the day they had to retreat into caves in order not to overheat as well, causing them to also be rather nocturnal. Now, given how Keleria is a half land half water planet, I would say there is actually quite the possibility that if there were a sentient species on Keleria, they could possibly not need water. And depending on evolution, they could either be an air fairing race, or completely land based. But there is also the possibly that the complete opposite is true and that a sentient species on this planet could be completely water based to the point they live under water," she explained more. " I hope this helps ma'am," she said, and then the captain started looking for her Tricorder. " Didn't you put it on your bag?" she asked, walking over to the captains backpack, but also noticing the Tricorder was gone. "Captain...?" she asked, a tone of pure concern. If there was indeed a sentient species on this planet and if they weren't advanced, this could mean that the Prime Directive had been broken.

[Costa - Beyond LZ-1, Kerelia]=//= "Soyá, sure ting, Belówtwala, flirting unte xantedura, da kewe kori mang." =//= Costa rolled her eyes hard enough to hurt her own fragile head. She listened as he tried to logic her, and she tried not to roll her eyes again. The blood from the gash on her forehead had begun to seep through the material of her makeshift press and started dripping over her eyebrow. She closed one eye and continued to stare at the wild creature. It lifted itself up and placed both of its paws on the ledge. It was mere inches from the end of her blade. "If I wanted you dead, you'd be dead."She could appreciate that was probably the case, but then he wasn't anywhere near her, so how could he kill her if he wanted? With the power of his mind? He was a slippery one. Costa found him very offensive. Giving her a hard time for not properly arming herself was one thing, but questioning her spacer status? Dzhemang. =//= "Milowda Ányimal, Husty." =//= It was a bit cryptic, perhaps, but she was staring into the slitted eyes of an impressive feline predator as it extended its sinewy neck toward her. Then its tongue flickered out, rough as she'd remembered it, and still red from her blood, and licked the sharp edge of her machete. Shocked into silence, she clammed up and stilled. The pair were locked on each other completely, until a snap of something from the treeline caught the animal's attention and it swung its head toward the source. With an enviable speed, the catmon bounded back into the jungle and disappeared. Costa felt a strange, almost bereft feeling, which was followed immediately by a wave of exhaustion that she was struggling to fight. Some of the tension left her shoulder muscles and the big knife sagged. She couldn't help but think she'd probably rather get eaten by the catmon than face the medic's wrath.

[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Jungle, Kerelia] To say that the plant's disappearance was puzzling was an understatement. Isaiah didn't dispute a lot of the suggestions that his colleagues were making. He could agree with Lyric that sometimes plants could move. He simply had never personally come up with one that moved entirely from one location to another. Rylonis also brought up the point that not all plants needed sunlight, which suggested that if the plant had moved it was for another reason. That still suggested that the plant was mobile. It wasn't something that Isaiah wanted to admit to, though whenever one has ruled out all of the possibilities, then whatever remained no matter how improbable was probable. It was then that Dr. Zaman pointed out the feces in the area that the plant had been, or rather his pet PooDoo had seemed to find it. Rylonis suggested taking samples of the area. Perhaps, that would be as close to solving this particular mystery as they were going to get. "That's not a bad idea," he stated. He kneeled down minding the PooDoo's space as it conducted its own business. He reached into his pack and proceeded to remove a few containers to collect samples. He made certain to collect samples of the soil and the unknown feces. It didn't seem necessary to collect any of the PooDoos. "We can take a closer look at these later," said Quinn. "I guess we may as well figure out what other mysteries this place has for us."Jungle Kerelia Tom walked with the group as he remained alert. As the scientist did their job to study “poop” to get more information about the species of the planet. Jett knew that poop contained a lot of information about a species including the digestive tract, viruses, diet and process. However, for him, it was still poop a smelly uninteresting thing that would come into the report and he would have read his. He remained alert and on guard as they did not know much about the planet and anything might be possible. There was a difference between being alert and paranoia. [NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - LZ-1, Kerelia]"Actually, the name means 'Demon' in El-Aurian," Doug explained to Lyric. "It refers to their temperament and their screams."To the other Ensign, he explained the behavior. "It's a little like a Terran dog, in that she's marking her territory, but it's for a different purpose. Her cousin, the Greater PooDoo, likes to claim large swaths of the forest to itself, which other Greater PooDoos know to avoid. The smell of her droppings has an echo that hangs around for days, for particularly sharp-nosed animals like the PooDoo. It repels them."Pood was done relieving herself, and kicked up some dirt towards Quinn. "Sorry about that," Doug apologized to the young man. "She's a bit of a privacy fiend and an exhibitionist all in one. If Mr. Jett were to accept my offer and become my squire, he could help clean it up."The last words were said with a look towards the leather-clad civilian. "By the way, Mr. Jett, what brought you here? A love of the unknown and the wonders of nature?"
Jett stopped as the Science Team continued collecting samples and listened to Sir Doug Zaman their leading expert. As him why he was here. To honest answer was to look at Feliicty’s crew first hand. But voicing that would hardly be smart. The man looked down as he searched for an answer as he continued “Looking for possible business opportunities, you never know when they occur. I remember that in Deep Space Nine…there was a Ferengi…what was his name….Quinn, nah, umm Quirky…..Ahh Quark!” He said as he snapped his fingers as he remembered the name of the Ferengi. “Putting a Bar in Deep Space Nine turned out to be a great business venue, so business people need to keep their eyes and hear open.” . As Jett finished he realized that he might have given a hint from his past. Deep Space Nine was an important area in the Dominion War and it would stand to reason that he might have served during the war. Jett responded with a BS Mercenary, money answer that was hardly debatable. He was lying, but there was always an opportunity is the most unlikely places. The reality is that he might need to depend on some of these people to search for Mr. 79 IF or WHEN they see another opening to it. The man walked a couple of steps as he remained alert. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]
As the others began to catch up she turned to address them. Jett nodded as he heard the orders that they had only an hour left. The man knew that they wanted to If they wanted to cover more the ground. He was close to suggesting to the Captain potentially splitting up to cover more ground but remained quiet. Before he could respond to anything he listened to the Science personnel as she gave her analysis of the situation. Jett looked at Felicity and indicated a sight with his face that he approved. She made several good points and indicated that there is a lot that they might now know. Jett recalled asking the Doctor about this question in the shuttle but never received a strong answer. As he heard that a Tricorder was missing, Jett shrugged for a second and said “It could have also been easily dropped” . Tom said calmly. There was no need to panic at the moment until they had more information. Jett pulled out his Tricorder and said “I’m sure we can adjust our Tricorder, to so a scan for a specific mineral found on the Tricorder to locate it.”. Tom suggested. He pulled out his Tricorder and attempted to do a scan. He then looked confused and asked out loud “Does someone know how to do that…I barely use these things” . Tom said as he offered his Tricorder for someone to adjust. Since clearly he was showing that Science was not his forte. Tag Felicity Ellis Isaiah Quinn Judith Eastman (Doug) @lyricsinclair

[At Costa] Alex once again barked in laughter as she responded to him. He didn't even notice that they had slipped fully into their more natural language and cadence, but he didn't mind. He preferred it this way anyways. English was such a restrictive language, what with the grammar that was unyielding and sentence structure being closed. Space was free, unrestricting, and full of so many different dialects and variants of language that no two people truly spoke the same language. It was the language of space. =\\= "Walowda ámolof xantedura, na nagut da kewe kori mang. Xalte bi tolowada baseng! Serí tim." =\\= he said, letting her know how far away he was. As he continued to walk, he too heard a noise in the trees and spun around, leveling the disruptor but not firing, not seeing anything downrange. Damn, his nerves were getting jumpy. =\\= "Kewe ando Belówt? Tu no det, keyá? Mi ere bi teristi." =\\= he asked, concerned about her health. It was taking him longer than he'd like to get to her. The longer he waited, the less likely he'd have a source of income when he got there. He heard her threat, but thought it was merely just his Captain posturing. After all, yes humans were animals but they had reason, by and large. They weren't Jem'haddar. Or Sodzha. Blindly following orders, never thinking of how that messes up everyone else. But, it was their galaxy, he just had to live in it. As he arrived in the clearing, he made sure to have the disruptor ready, but not leveled at anyone. Approaching Costa, he spoke again. "Oye, Fretalowda! Leta xi," he said, half tossing half handing her the disruptor while he shrugged his pack off, extracting medical supplies and looking up at her forehead. "Unless to showxa na?"

[Jungle, Kerelia] Caroline had been following the eggheads silently, noting how they interacted. Scientists could be an excitable bunch once you got them out of their labs, she mused silently to herself. The ensigns, she understood. Sir Zaman and his weird cat thing, made sense even. What she could not make sense of, was Jett’s inclusion in their excursion. There was something between him and her captain, for certain. Probably look him up when she got back to the ship, purely out of professional curiosity. She tapped a finger to her chin, before adding a reminder memo to the notes she was taking on her PADD. The counselor was going to let his previous stripper commentary go without remark in the interest of remaining professional, but honestly, she could not resist hitting him with a snarky quip. It was also a good way to gauge his relationship to Captain Ellis. Since he wasn’t actually a member of her crew, if the Captain came down hard on her for it, it’d be a telling sign. Some things were worth a little risk, to satisfy a curiosity. [Jungle, Kerelia] As he heard that a Tricorder was missing, Jett shrugged for a second and said “It could have also been easily dropped” . Tom said calmly. There was no need to panic at the moment until they had more information. Jett pulled out his Tricorder and said “I’m sure we can adjust our Tricorder, to so a scan for a specific mineral found on the Tricorder to locate it.”. Tom suggested. Tom said as he offered his Tricorder for someone to adjust. Since clearly he was showing that Science was not his forte. Caroline walked up a little closer to the stopped group, and decided to throw her own two cents in, for what it was worth. ”I’d maybe stick to the stripping, Captain Leather Pants. There’s probably decent sturdy tree branches around here if you’re still in need of a pole. I think your solution might be more complicated than the problem requires, if you want my opinion. All tricorders here should be running on the same frequency, by default. Change the frequency on the tricorders we do have, scan for the default frequency, and the lost one should stick out like a sore thumb.” She shrugged a shoulder, and treated herself to another piece of candy as a reward. ”I may have almost gotten eaten by that heckin’ Harvey demon plant, but I’m not as dumb as I look.” She gave a wink with her words. Science wasn’t her wheelhouse for sure, and she likely couldn’t really go toe to toe with the ensigns, but she did understand some technology.

Science wasn’t her wheelhouse for sure, and she likely couldn’t really go toe to toe with the ensigns, but she did understand some technology. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]Felicity was pleased when everyone fell silent and allowed Trellgin to voice her own theories. This was exactly what they'd come for. Certainly, their main mission was to facilitate the new colonists, but research would help make that easier. Forewarned meaning they were forearmed, of course. She wrinkled her nose a little at the mention of brown goop, but overall she was grateful for the ensign's knowledge. "So Kerelia could potentially be a favourable option for all sorts of species; nocturnal, diurnal, reliant on water or cave-dwelling. What a boon." She was pleased. She raised her hands, using her fingers to pull back her loose hair and tug it back upward into a high ponytail. Everything wilted a little in the humidity, including hair. "The question of evolution of species on this planet is also a very interesting one, Ensign." She finished tightening her locks and continued, "For a planet as old as Kerelia is, we've found no surface sign of any civilisation. Scans of the large bodies of water yielded nothing beyond what we could expect of a young planet." Felicity shook her head then, ponytail swishing to and fro with the movement. "Weird."Her missing tricorder was also very weird. "I did," she confirmed to Trellgin when the young woman asked if she'd left it on top of her backpack. At Jett's words her sharp eyes darted toward him, and she frowned slightly. "It wasn't dropped." Did the man assume everyone was a moron? Riordan, who had been quietly tailing, observing and munching candies, chose that moment to speak up. Felicity snorted in response to the new nickname - Captain Leather Pants. It was an odd choice of attire for the jungle, to be fair. But the two of them together, snarking aside, had come up with an easy solution to her lost tricorder problem. "Ensigns," she turned to ensure she included not just Trellgin beside her, but also Sinclair and Quinn, "If one of you could do the honours, please. A simple frequency re-calibration and we should be able to pinpoint my bloody tricorder..."Really, where could it have gone? Even a Captain had to report lost or damaged devices. She slipped her bag off her shoulder and started another fruitless search inside.

"Xalte náterash. Dzhush," he said, no bedside manner to speak of. It was more a command, an order. One he'd enforce. It was an attitude he'd learned while working alongside Fleet during the last war. Often, he had to let go attachments and cut away fluff in order to help patients the best. He did what he had to, especially with uncooperative patients. He tried to push the hypo against her neck. If he was able, the results would be quick. The stimulant would go to work, and the cocktail would begin to raise alertness and dispel dizziness. "Terásh voyu wel, to ere wa ruchirownya watim. Leta-go wamang kowlting," he continued to chastise her, moving with a gauze-like substance to put direct pressure on her gash before he could get tools to deal with it. In all likelihood, it would be painful. "Dédawang to ámolof bi rescue," he finished, unable to keep but teasing her more. He repositioned himself closer to her head and face, examining as he could - what she would allow him to - see, hand reaching for a dermal regenerator to seal up the wound.
Hard tags: Ozu Saya and Rylonis Trellgin . Softs/updates: Isaiah Quinn , @lyricsinclair , Thomas Jett , Judith Eastman (Doug).
[ Chief Ozu Saya - LZ 1 - Kerelia] =/\= Acknowledged, Captain. Take care, =/\= Saya said, signing off. Her eyebrow shot up, then furrowed at Lurai's mention of a second creature joining the first. In pain? Why would both creatures be in pain? I hope that our mere presence isn't causing the poor creatures distress, she said, moving over to help a lone engineer lift one of the wall panels free from the stack. Another quickly stepped in to take it off her hands and help carry it over to the ops station, which was quickly taking shape. I should go assist the others, Saya said, reaching for her bag to grab her hyperspanner. She shot another glance at the tree where the creatures were perched, a concerning thought crossing her mind. I hope there's not some larger predator around injuring the animals.Saya realized that the familiar shape of her hyperspanner wasn't coming readily to her fingers and looked down, holding open the bag to search visually. That was so odd. Saya knew it had been in there when she'd grabbed the bag that morning. Has anyone seen my hyperspanner? Saya called to the clearing at large. Several of the engineers shook their heads or called out, No, not that Saya expected anything different. None of them would have taken anything from her personal kit without permission.

Tag: Lurai Sren Thea Baker [ Thea - LZ1, Kerelia] " I hope not either, I'd hate to think that our arrival has caused some upset" Thea responded, to her companions, glad that she wasn't the only one that felt that way as Sren and Saya acknowledged the Captain's order. Now that they had their orders, Thea was ready to continue in setting up the triage centre, although would be more cautious about the creature's presence, especially when Lurai then mentioned that there was a second creature, who was suffering the same way as the first. This was definitely a strange and possible disturbing situation that they now found themselves in, especially when the possibility of a large predator being involved. That caused a shiver down her spine, before Saya informed them that she was going to assist the others. " Whatever the reason, I think we should be cautious and acknowledged Chief".With the Chief helping the Engineer's in putting the Ops station together, Thea then turned to Lurai, thinking that they should also get to work. " Let's go start sorting out the crates for the triage centre, so they're ready for putting into the centre" she suggested, before Saya then drew their attention, with an issue regarding her hyperspanner. The CMO couldn't remember seeing anything drop from the Chief's bag but then again, she had been pretty much occupied since returning to the group. Glad that they were wearing this particular variant of their uniform for this climate as she moved forward to offer help. " Would you like some help in trying to find it?".

EDIT: Quotes decided to die on me, so I purged them. Sorry. [NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - LZ-1, Kerelia]"For what it's worth, Captain, I lose my tricorders on almost a weekly basis, so you're in good company," Doug shared reassuringly. "In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's gone AWOL on me right now."Doug took off his backpack and looked through it. "My tricorder is still here. It's a miracle!" he exclaimed. He began the frequency calibration on the visibly beaten-up and yet still new tool, and then looked over into the distance. "Captain, I believe it's that way, and it's on the move!" the El-Aurian scientist announced. "Onwards! Or maybe I'm reading this wrong and it's the other way. I'm not sure."Then, he turned to Jett. The man seemed well-versed in old Earth pop culture. "Mr. Jett, I have a business opportunity for you. If you can get two empty halves of coconut, or something that makes a similar noise, and bang 'em together while I go forth, you will be rewarded," he joked. "That is, provided you can calculate the airspeed velocity of an unladened swallow."
