[Intelligence Office - Ensign Hudson]
Until now this had been little more than a puzzle for Hudson to solve. She hadn't fully taken the time to think about the stakes and the implications. It was only just now sinking in as she observed the XO's response.
She nodded in response to her orders and quickly began cross referencing past duty rosters during the times the theft could have occurred. The hacks had all happened at different times so it was simply a task of figuring out who with access was online during all the hacks. Fortunately, there were only two potential suspects. "I've got two suspects," she said pulling up their files on the computer. "Petty Officer Second Class Trelech bim Nonch . Tellarite Ops computer technician or Ensign Ibyr Th'akaollin , Security."

[Turbolift]"I uh, don't know where we can get water from...oh!" he exclaimed. He's misunderstood what she was saying and thought she was asking for water but quickly realised his mistake and the frightening stipulation they were now in. He had absolutely no idea what to do in this situation. "Uh...just keep breathing..." he said with a degree of panic and concern, "In through your nose, out through your mouth...wait no, in through your mouth out through your nose...no wait..." he was fumbling and panicking, "Just keep breathing," he asserted confident that he was at least correct that breathing was a good idea.
Tag: Thea Baker [ Leanna - Turbolift] It may of taken Harmon a moment or two to realise what she meant, but Leanna was glad that he had, because this baby wasn't going to wait for anyone, even though she had clung on to the hope, that she had been wrong. Maybe it was fear, panic and the thought of giving birth in a lift, that was currently not moving, not to mention, how early the Baby would be. No she had to focus, she had to try to reassure Harmon, especially as he then attempted to help her with her breathing. " Thank you, Lieutenant, you're right, I need to remember that" she replied, as she tried to get her breathing back under control. That was easier said than done, as she experienced another contraction, more painful than before. Breath Lea, breath she told herself, trying to find some clarity and yet found herself apologising for what she was putting Harmon through. " Also I should apologise, I bet you weren't expecting this to happen and to be honest, neither did I .... ".Lea felt it was important to say that, during the brief lull in contractions, knowing that it was likely that she might not have chance too, as the pain continued and she attempted to ride it out.

[Petty Officer Kellen Gates - Arrivals, Deck 29, Front Ear Station]The Frontier. The Front Ear. That's where Petty Officer 2nd Class Kellen Gates had found himself. His fourth new home in two years. He supposed that was the nature of his work and of being a part of the great Fleet that was Star. That didn't mean he had to like it. The frequency with which he changed lodgings had not helped the young medic to overcome his aversion to change. The only thing that was keeping him from turning tail and heading back home to Essex was that the people hadn't changed. He was still serving with friends and mentors. He had yet to meet his new CMO, but his support structure was predominantly the same. He clutched his PADD to his chest as he waited patiently in the admissions queue. They were efficient, he thought, and before too long he was giving one of the Security crewmen his signature head bob-bow as he passed through and into the passageways beyond the landing pads. The further he walked, the less traffic he encountered. Pausing just once to check the blueprints displayed on a viewscreen, he continued on his way toward the turbolift. He wanted to locate his new quarters and freshen up a little, perhaps don his uniform, before reporting in to Sickbay. His casual travelling clothes, while comfortable and quite stylish if he thought so himself, weren't suitable for making that all-important first impression on his colleagues. Kellen was considering bringing a gift of baked goods - it had often worked for his former boss, Dr. Eastman, when a man in a horrible jumpsuit approached, catching his eye with his lack of style. He was coming straight for Kellen and did not seem likely to move, and so the medic, being of sound upbringing, stepped helpfully to one side to allow the horrifically-ensembled gent to pass him by without contact. But the other man didn't bother to walk around; instead he stepped right up to Kellen and punched him in the gut. The air rushed out of his chest in a whoosh sound. Kellen doubled over, clutching his stomach, his glasses sliding down and off the bridge of his nose. "Hand over your stuff, or I'll be the last thing you see, kid."Kellen Gates really did not want that truly awful pattern to be the last thing he saw, but he felt it prudent to let the other man know he had absolutely nothing of value in his backpack. "I have only personal - OOF!" The man's knee connected with his face and Kellen fell to his side, right to the ground alongside his cracked glasses. Mr. Jumpsuit bent over and began to relieve him of his Earthly belongings.

The tone of the room changed when Hudson gave voice to the uncomfortable conclusion, but there were no admonishments of reckless allegations or disbelief from the Commander. No slamming fists down on panels or calls for the gallows. But to say that Commander Eastman seemed fine wouldn't be accurate either. It was sobering. "Aye, Commander," Kaya Som said with a glance at Hudson, and went back to work on it. The entry point was a virtual one - you had to have the right clearance on the right systems and then the right personal credentials. Kaya began following the breadcrumbs through logs and systems, checking under virtual carpets, and peeking under virtual doors. More than once, she hit a security wall that she didn't have access to only to find that she didn't need to get through it - the trail led around a different way. "Environmental controls," Kaya declared after a bit. "It looks like someone removed a security clearance lock as part of life support systems upgrades. That exposed the entry point." She wasn't so triumphant with this bit of detective work. "The hackers wouldn't have known where it was or if it was exposed unless someone told them, and this-" she pointed at the log entry, "-no one's going to look at that and sound an alarm." Judith Eastman , Matthew Harmon (Hudson) [Intelligence Office - Ensign Hudson]

Tag: Judith Eastman Kaya Som [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Intelligence Offices]Judy sat down two glasses of water on the desk, and took a succession of long sips from the third. She had her process to go back to, and she had her duty - anger wasn't going to help her here. She thought about both names. She made it her duty to know the people under her, the broad strokes of their lives, their challenges, their issues. She tried to remember what she could, and what she didn't, she could reference. "The Ops tech, Nonch, I think it's him," she commented gravely, as a vague, slightly fuzzy memory came to her. She adjusted her glasses and then grabbed her PADD, to retrieve her notes. "He has gambling debts, big ones. Tragic story," she told them, after skimming the record (which sparked her recollection more thoroughly). The PO2 had been a talented technician with wartime service, even earned a Purple Heart, like Judy herself had. However, the adjustment after the war had not been as kind to him as it had been to her. He'd fallen on hard times, turned to gambling, even got demoted and then transferred out to this remote outpost. If ever there was a vulnerable link, and a tragic one, it was this one. "Crewman Som, I want you to track down his financials, through his Starfleet Credits account. Look for any suspicious interactions, or anything involving those two subjects, Mercer and Fatax. Ensign Hudson, cancel his clearance until further notice, and see if you can get the security footage from the cameras by his console," Judy ordered. There was now neither joy at the catch, nor bloodlust towards the traitor, in Judy's voice. No, she was sincerely sorry for someone who had fallen on hard times and hit rock bottom. It was almost like looking at a dark mirror, at what she might have become without her friends and family. =A= "Computer, extend clearance to Crewman Som and Ensign Hudson to access records concerning Petty Officer Trelech bim Nonch, for the next 12 minutes, authorization Eastman, Bravo, Seven, Six, Two, Tango, Foxtrot, Two." =A= she ordered.

Joint post by Jeb and Rose [NPC - SCPO Melihn Ryah & Fatax - Brig] Ryah nodded to the young doctor after he finished his report. Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate your prompt attendance. You can return to sickbay.
Mr. Halgerdur, if you’ll step into my office for a few minutes with the security officer, I’ll interview Mr. Fatax. She gestured to the stoic officer who’d accompanied the doctor and Fatax. When they’d disappeared, Ryah turned her attention to the Ferengi and steepled her fingers. Now, Mr. Fatax, would you please tell me in your own words everything that happened? Then I’d like to ask you a few questions.
And I’ll be recording this for the record. She started the PADD recording and waited for the Ferengi to begin speaking. Fatax glared at the Starfleet fee-male, who seemed far too nice to the assailant, regardless of anything. ”I have a question for you, first,” he told her. ”Why is this case so complicated to you? He grabbed me in the turbolift, and that’s that. He’s an ex-con, and he assaulted me. Even a fee-male should be able to figure that out.”Ryah's eyebrows bobbed up once at the Ferengi's insults. She could certainly understand how Fells might have lost his temper. She actually wondered how he'd survived working in security before his arrest if he had such poor impulse control. All right, she said evenly. This case is "complicated" because there are always more than one side to a story involving more than one person. So I'm going to walk through the events. She pulled up the video footage, tilting the PADD so she could see it better. Mr. Halgerdur approached the turbolift alone. You then walked up to him several seconds later. Why did you approach him?”I make it my business to know the people on this station,” Fatax answered. ”Fells Halgerdur is a dangerous criminal, and I want dangerous criminals to know that I, and businessmen like me, don’t appreciate them.”Fatax looked just a little uncomfortable. ”I’m doing you a big favor, and I don’t have to say anything to you. Remember that Ferengi are not known for our charity,” he threatened. Considering Mr. Halgerdur had only just arrived on the station and had not committed any crimes since his arrival, I don't really see it as a civilian's place to police anyone on the station unless they are actively involved in a crime. In fact, she said, leaning forward with a deadly serious expression. Mr. Halgerdur could potentially file charges against you for harassment.
Actually, I'd like to know how you were made aware of his arrival in such a short time.”It’s a Ferengi’s duty to know. Knowledge equals profit,” Fatax answered. ”Rule of Acquisition number 74.”He glared at his interrogator. ”I don’t know if you’re doing this because I’m a Ferengi, or out of some misplaced loyalty to a former officer that betrayed the Federation, but if you keep acting like you’re on his side, I can go after you and Starfleet,” he threatened. ”I could also lawyer up if I need to. Remember the favor I’m doing you.”Lady Justice was blind, but Fatax was not. Lady Justice was also a fee-male. That, to Fatax, meant that hyoo-mons’ Lady Justice was stupid, and could be used to bluff and bully the Federation. Ryah's head tilted to one side and she said mildly, I'm simply trying to ascertain the truth, but thus far you've done little but throw around accusations, and it sounds as if you just threatened a Starfleet officer, sir. What exactly do you mean by 'go after' me and Starfleet?”In a court of law, your law,” Fatax shot back, sounding a little scared beneath his bravado. ”You’ve been so clearly unfair towards me, so biased, that it’s a clear miscarriage of justice. You can’t make anything stick to me, not with this treatment. What do you even have to make you look at me so harshly, when I’m the victim?”On its surface, the case of Fells and Fatax looked clear-cut. Everything else had come after. Fatax could only hope he could make that stick with a jury if his threat didn’t. He was now really considering the possibility that this would not be so. If that's how you wish to proceed, we can certainly do so. You can file charges against Mr. Halgerdur and myself, if you wish. And Mr. Halgerdur may wish to pursue harassment charges against you. Of course, we'll have to call in an outside investigator, as I'm the chief of security. Oh, and I still need to question you about your alleged involvement in the incident at the Blue Beta Bar & Grill. All of this will take some time. And, of course, there will be intensive investigations into each of our histories and backgrounds. This cavalier attitude made Fatax visibly distraught. Perhaps there was a lot more against him than he figured. ”What? What do you have?” he asked. ”What’s this about? Look at me, do I look like a burglar? I bruise so easily!”He wasn’t sure what to do, but he figured he could cooperate, or lawyer up. Ryah folded her hands on top of the desk to stop herself from reaching out to add her own bruises to the turd's neck, keeping a mild, almost vacuous, expression on her face. There's video footage of you hanging around the Blue Beta over the last few days. On its own, it doesn't mean much. It is a free promenade, after all, but that coupled with your unsolicited approach of Mr. Halgurder and your vitriol against him could be construed as targeted harassment. Perhaps you're trying to cause a distraction by getting our focus off of you and onto him. She shrugged as if she were offering nothing more than the time of day. Fatax looked spooked by that, more spooked than he should have been. ”Okay, okay! I confess! I know what happened there, but I didn’t do it!” he screeched. ”Arnold Mercer, that’s the name you’re looking for! I’ll tell you more names, if you give me immunity!”A very tiny smile tipped the corners of Ryah's mouth at the blurted confession. She stood and walked around the desk. We'll discuss it. For now, you're under arrest for conspiracy. She gripped one of the Ferengi's arms to lead him off to a cell. Fatax looked panicked. ”What?” Fatax yelped. ”I want a lawyer! I know my rights! You can’t do this to me!”He grabbed onto the desk and held on tight. We'll be adding resisting arrest to the charges against you if you don't come along right now, Ryah said grimly, dropping any pretense of friendliness. She was done with this Ferengi. Ryah wasn't sure Fells would be entirely in the clear, but she'd done what she could, now she needed to get on with this investigation. ”You wouldn’t dare!” Fatax screeched. ”I’ll sue you! I’ll ruin you!”He began to kick her. You're wrong there, Ryah grunted as he got a good one in on her shin before she could dodge. She twisted the arm she had hold of up behind the Ferengi's back and pinched his earlobe on the same side. Go, she said firmly, frog marching him to a cell. Ryah released him inside and stepped back to slap the force field control outside. Fatax was now reduced from all his bravado to helpless yelping and wailing. It had all gone so very wrong for him. He was toast. Ryah blew out a harsh breath and reached down to rub her bruised leg before striding toward her office. The door slid open automatically upon her approach. She gestured over her shoulder with her thumb, Barnes, go speak to the Ferengi in the cell. He wants a lawyer. Read him his rights, too. He's under arrest for conspiracy and resisting arrest. If he gives you any trouble, tell him we'll be adding assaulting a security officer.Barnes choked back a laugh and exited with a nod at Fells and a two-fingered salute to the diminutive security chief. Once Barnes had left and her office door slid closed, Ryah limped around her desk and sat. Well, I can't promise that he won't still decide to press charges against you, but I think it's far less likely at this point.
Mr. Halgerdur, you've used up the only goodwill I can offer you. There's going to be a record of Fatax's complaint, but without charges filed against you, it shouldn't come to anything. You've got to stay out of trouble, and stay out of his way. With a sigh, she added, You can go. I sincerely hope I don't see you again for anything like this.

For the few moments between the order and the clearance override, Kaya wasn't sure if the commander was implying she knew that Kaya knew how to go where she didn't belong. She was relieved when the proper channels were cleared away before Kaya had to ask for confirmation. The water had sat awkwardly untouched for too long. She took a quick sip, set it back down, and went to to rooting around in the private life of Trelech bim Nonch. What the commander knew that shuffled Nonch to the top of a list of two, Kaya couldn't tell, but with those names and the right clearance, Kaya could get her answers. She expected to find Nonch's accounts in disarray, mulitple accounts in multiple currencies in bad standings, evidence of money moving around, the whole thing very anxiety-making. But what she found was far more stable. "Well, Nonch is not in debt anymore. I mean, yes, a bit, but someone's paid off most of it." Kaya raked her fingers through her hair. "Currency conversion is latinum. Account holder Fatax of Ferenginar." Judith Eastman, Matthew Harmon (Hudson)

[Intelligence Office - Ensign Hudson]"He looks like our guy," Hudson replied to Eastman affirmatively. She was right, the Tellarite seemed like a likely suspect. Hudson was quick to judge and condemn the man as a traitor, but once the XO began to tell his story she felt sorry for the man, especially as she looked at his service record. The man was decorated and clearly served well during the war but something must have happened and the man spiralled downward after the war and was even demoted. Hudson was part of the new generation of officers that began service after the war had ended. She often forgot the immense toll it had on many of those she served with. She hoped such a thing would never happen again. Her expression turned more serious and solemn, her usually bubbly and excited demeanour soured. "Aye, ma'am," she replied as she quickly cancelled Nonch's clearance and accessed the footage of his workstation, downloading footage from the times in question for later analysis and also accessing the current feed. "He seems to be at work now, ma'am."

Tag: Thea Baker [ Leanna - Turbolift] Despite a few minutes of sheer panic and fright over what was happening, Leanna had finally managed to get her breathing under control. Perhaps it was instinct kicking in at last, allowing the expectant Mother, to focus on getting through this, without causing any further complications for both her and her soon to be born son. Even as she was hit by another painful contraction, she was still aware of Harmon and his thoughts and emotions, although they had become more like an echo of sorts as if she was sensing them from a great distance. That wasn't to say, that she didn't care or was concerned about how he was trying to deal with this, as it wasn't every day, that someone he just met, suddenly and unexpectedly went into labour. So considering everything, he was doing well and she was glad that she wasn't completely on her own. When he then told her that she had nothing to apologise for, Lea managed a smile, knowing he was doing his best to remain calm for both of them, before he asked, how he could help. She appreciated his efforts, even after the awkward silence, that took her a little time to respond too as she breathed through a contraction. " Just keep talking to me and be encouraging" she replied, barely getting her words out, before she paused, instinct taking over the fear, when she felt the strong urge to push. " In fact, I'm going to need that more than ever, as it's time .... this baby is coming ........".

Realign the tricorder to scan on the same frequency as the station's sensors," Kova said. "You should be able to recognize the source. The fields should been like water washing off the side of a Yutann under the faucet."As Kova waited for her to report back, she heard Sven's question. To be honestly it stung. Her eyes shifted to him, but didn't betray the frustration she felt. All of a sudden, it felt like if he had seen her file, he stopped shortly after reading about a few arrests and the time she'd spent on the penal colony. Maybe Starfleet doesn't want to risk tarnishing its image, and redacted any record of her ever being at the Academy. There was even an bit of irony in his question, because intelligence work had been what ruined her chances of being in Starfleet. They waited for Rio to report what she'd found... if anything. If Kova had to guess, there was likely some sort of emitter in one of the light fixtures above. She started to glance upwards, but Mercer seemed to be a bit agitated. That was certainly worrisome, considering he had come off as anything but shy before. What the hell was wrong with him?

[NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Deck 9, Promenade, Front Ear Station] Kova hadn't wanted to be presumptuous. There was always the possibility that these security officers were looking for a reason to toss her into a cell right alongside Mercer. Of course, now, he had begun to start behaving more like a timid mouse. Why was he growing cold feet all of a sudden? Kova looked around briefly. Was it possible that someone had been there watching, and that's what had gotten Mercer spooked? Or had too much been revealed too quickly for his tastes? Kova hadn't noticed anyone glaring in their direction. If someone else was present, they were well hidden. Finally, the Andorian began to move towards the tricorder with the others, as they were clearing having trouble understanding entirely what they were seeing. "Think of it as a cloaking field. The technology is similar to how cloaking technology works. They refract or bend the light around the vessel, making it appear invisible." Kova moved closer to get a look at the tricorder. "Essentially, someone is cloaking that spot. And the emitter looks to be coming from... there." She pointed towards one of the light fixtures, but again moved away, not wanting to get too close to that perimeter. She then listened as Sven called the station's executive officer and reported to her. Thus far, her name had been kept out of this. Hopefully, it would remain as such. He then asked if she'd seen anything like this before. "I've seen people effect personal cloaking devices to wear," she began, "but I haven't seen anyone use it to make a blind spot. Technically, it's easily adaptable. That is... for everyone except the Federation." How the humans and Vulcans had ever agreed to not using a cloaking device was beyond her.

[...] "Crewman Som, I want you to track down his financials, through his Starfleet Credits account. Look for any suspicious interactions, or anything involving those two subjects, Mercer and Fatax. Ensign Hudson, cancel his clearance until further notice, and see if you can get the security footage from the cameras by his console," Judy ordered. [...] Kaya Som sat momentarily motionless. Account holder Fatax of Ferenginar." Judith Eastman , Matthew Harmon (Hudson) [Intelligence Office - Ensign Hudson]"He looks like our guy," Hudson replied to Eastman affirmatively.

It would've been easier if she was wrong, but she was so painfully right. Trelech bim Nonch, a brother-in-arms despite being almost a complete stranger, was a tragic figure, and his connection with Fatax, their suspect from earlier, only confirmed that. "Right. Let's keep looking," she suggested, before she was interrupted by an incoming hail. =/\= "Lieutenant Aune to Commander Eastman-Williams. We have found some very unusual readings down here on the promenade. It looks as if the sensor net is being deflected in such a way that it's not tripping any alarms and creating a hole in security. But I can't make heads nor tails out of these readings. Requesting an engineer." =/\= =A= "Acknowledged, Lieutenant. I'll send someone your way. Eastman out," =A= she shot out, using only her maiden name (as was her custom) out of sheer convenience. But, of course, he'd neglected to specify location. =A= "Computer, locate Lieutenant Sven Aune," =A= the First Officer instructed. =A= "Lieutenant Aune is on Deck 9," =A= came the reply. "Crewman, there's a sensor net that's been messed with on Deck 9 of the Promenade, and they need an engineer. Your point man is Lieutenant Sven Aune; he's... hard to miss," Judy ordered, a little smile returning to her face at what an understatement this was. Sven Aune was, much like poor Lt. Hugo, an absolute mountain of a man. As she spoke, Judy took her glasses off, holding them by the corner using her right hand. "Ensign Hudson, what do you suppose we should do next?" she asked, letting the youngster take the lead and show initiative - or not.

[Brig- Fells] The time in a cell alone with one of the security officers had been uncomfortable. Not much was said but Fells could only imagine what the man thought. He regretted not being able to return to this line of work, because noone would ever take him serious again but he had really liked that job.
When the door slid open and the station chief limped in and said something about resisting arrest, Fells almost smiled. He was pretty sure that Fatax had made the mistake to kick Ryah. Her words confirmed it and made Fells feel a bit of relief. He wasn't out of danger but it wasn't very likely that someone who was now being held in a cell would press charges against him....it also seemed like Ryah was a bit angry. She probably didn't operate the same way Fells did but she'd still let the guy know that he had gone too far.
Thankfully Fells nodded. A complaint he could easily live with...another charge would be aweful. "Thank you. I appreciate it." Most likely she knew that anyway. "Trust me....this taught me a lesson. I'll stay out of trouble. Lea deserves it...and frankly, I do, too."
She released him but before he left he looked at her again and finally smiled a little. "Thank you!"
He then turned to leave, which was something he truly hadn't expected....roles reversed....now Fatax was in a cell.
Outside he walked around the next corner where he had to stop and take a few deep breaths. Fells covered his face with his hands and felt his knees get weak. He couldn't believe he almost ended up in prison again.
It took him a moment until he tried to call Lea, who was probably at home and upset by now. There was no answer though, which confirmed his theory.
So Fells decided to get to the apartment fast as well. Looking around he couldn't find a turbo lift but a set of stairs so he ran down two flights. Being completely new to the station he was pretty lost. His search also wasn't very successful, not even with his pad, so he exited on one of the levels and walked along the long corridor in search for an actual turbo lift.
In the distance he could see a guy bent over another, who was whimpering. Fells wrinkled his brow as he advanced, unsure what was going on. When he got closer he saw the larger man fill his pockets. "Hey!" He called out instinctively and started running. But then he remembered where he had just come from and that, against his better judgement, he should stay out of whatever was going on here.

[Petty Officer Kellen Gates - Passageway, Deck 29, Front Ear Station]Kellen's cheek was pressed to the floor as he lay curled up in the fetal position. A shaky hand reached out, trying to take a hold of his broken glasses. Mr. Jumpsuit stomped on his fingers and the poor medic whimpered with the pain. He could taste the blood in his mouth and knew that the punches had done some damage. He sensed Mr. Jumpsuit's hands over him, being shoved into his pockets and patting down his open jacket. But over the noise of his pulse thumping in his ears at the horrible violation, Kellen Gates heard someone else call out. "Help!" He responded, his voice shaky and a little hoarse as he spoke to the moving, dark blur further down the passageway. He was having trouble making the person out, but he was pretty sure they were humanoid. Mr. Jumpsuit, Kellen's pack in hand, spun around and snarled. He glanced from the newcomer and then back down to his victim and hesitated for a moment. Then with a muffled curse, he took off in the opposite direction, disappearing into another adjoining corridor. "My effects..." The medic swallowed a lump in his throat.

[Fells Halgerdur-floor 29]
He was more than glad that the burglar took off without a fight. Fells knew himself well enough, that he could not stand by and watch someone get beat up. He'd fight for him...and possibly end up in a bad spot again.
For a second he contemplated chasing him.
The Fells bent down and looked at the young guy on the ground, who had been kicked and beaten. Reaching for broken glasses, he held them out to the stranger. "One glass is still good." He also offered him a helping hand. "Are you okay? He hit you pretty bad. Should I call for a medic?"
