[Turbolift]"I uh...I've called Sickbay, they're on their way," he said as he Ryah arrived on the scene. Was quietly relieved to be called away. Hunting criminals was far easier than helping give birth. "The lift broke down. It only just came back online and...well, you see the situation," he noted once he'd moved to the side with Ryah.
Tag: Ozu Saya [ SCPO Melihn Ryah - Deck 29] Ryah blinked several times as Harmon reported on the recent events. Well, sounds like quite the bit of excitement. But I guess that means you didn't make it to the weapons locker to check it out? We can head that way now, then meet up with Commander Eastman. I've already got one suspect in a cell. Ryah gave a grim grin. Anyway, congratulations to you two! she said just before the family and medic disappeared in a transporter beam.
Tag Matthew Harmon Softies to Thea Baker and Fells Halgerdur [Deck 29]"Congratulations," Harmon said to Lea with a smile just before she disappeared. With a sigh of relief he turned to Ryah. "That's right, I haven't made it to the locker. Let's go."

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Security Offices]Judy took a moment to think about that. It wasn't exactly what she had in mind, but she supposed using the surveillance footage wasn't a half-bad idea. "Let's give it a try," she replied. "But, before we do, let's get them off the streets."She tapped her own commbadge. =A= "Computer, locate all unregistered commbadges that aren't in Starfleet storage facilities. If they are currently inactivated, activate them. If they are being worn, beam them and the wearers into holding cells. If unworn, beam them to our contraband storage facility and register the locations of origin. Also transmit their location logs of the last week to Ensign Hudson." =A= The computer beeped in acknowledgement. =A= "There were 14 such commbadges, and 3 individuals," =A= it accounted. "Here we go, Ensign. 14 commbadges and at least 11 people to find. You got this," the First Officer said encouragingly. "These dirtbags didn't know what they were getting into."
Tag Matthew Harmon [Security Office - Ensign Hudson]"Aye, ma'am," the young ensign said, feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety at the prospect of being given a task like that for her to deal with herself. She turned around to go about hunting down the culprites, reaching the door almost before having a thought and turning back to face the Commander. "Should I ask for Security's help? Some more manpower?" she asked quietly, hoping she wouldn't seem weak or incapable. The truth was she was afraid of failing her task, and wanted to show the Commander she had been listening to her lessons.

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Security Offices]This question, far from displeasing Judy, brought a smile to the veteran Officer's face. "By all means. Take whoever you need - my orders," she replied, almost cheerfully. It was refreshing to see this collaborative attitude from the Intelligence Officer. |Promenade -> Security Offices| In the floor...and what good was a lock that didn't need a key? Rio had a feeling that Security and Tech were going to be working overtime for quite a while, getting this station back to rights. And as much as Rio liked to party and have fun, what had been happening on the station before the current administration had arrived was a travesty. But again, not her problem, she was just the grunt that did the sweeping, not the one responsible for hunting out the dirt! "Coffee's not that bad," she muttered with a grin as they headed toward the commander's office. "No secret that we'll need all the help we can get straightening this mess out, though." And who better to do that than those who practiced the craft themselves? Sven Aune Kaya Som Isaiah Quinn Judith Eastman A mole? Kaya unconsciously set her jaw to stop spilling confidential info. She'd not ten minutes ago been in the Intel office tracking down a Starfleet officer who'd sabotaged the station security system, but Crewman Som wasn't at liberty to blab about it, not in front of two civilians, least of all. Unexpectedly, Lieutenant Aune offered the Andorian, Kova, a job. "Don't do it," Kaya winked at Kova as she considered Aune's offer to get in bed with Starfleet. "Coffee's terrible." In a few moments, Kaya had her tricorder calibrated to Kova's specifications. She moved around the space as she interpreted the readings, humming a little song as she did. Then she stopped and looked down. "It's in the floor..." Sure enough, right under her feet was a strip of grating that spanned the passageway. It was for running conduit, but with the right tools you could pry it up without a clearance key. She dropped to her knees and pulled it open. Sure enough, there was a small device leeching off a power relay. Kaya looked up at the rest of them with a big grin on her face. "It's not a hot pikash dumpling, that's for sure." OOC: Sven Aune has asked me to post on his behalf, since he'll be unable to post today. "We can talk about the conditions," Sven told Kova. Of course she had conditions, as did Starfleet. Thankfully, Rio and Kaya found the device at fault, hiding in the floorboards. "Let's get this somewhere we can analyze it, and report to Commander Eastman," Sven ordered. He knew Judy well enough to have an intuition of when she wanted to go through the formal channels, and when she wanted to step things into high gear. =A= "Computer, locate Commander Eastman-Williams," =A= he ordered the computer. =A= "Commander Judith Eastman-Williams is in the security offices," =A= the computer answered. "That's perfect. I'll drop you," he glared at Mercer, "off where you belong, and the rest of you can report to the Commander."Including Kova in "the rest of you" was a calculated gamble, a chance for her to possibly impress upon the First Officer what she already had on Sven, if she so chose. He led the group to a turbolift, which then took them to, =A= "Security offices, Deck S4" =A=. Kaya Som In the floor...and what good was a lock that didn't need a key? Rio had a feeling that Security and Tech were going to be working overtime for quite a while, getting this station back to rights. And as much as Rio liked to party and have fun, what had been happening on the station before the current administration had arrived was a travesty. But again, not her problem, she was just the grunt that did the sweeping, not the one responsible for hunting out the dirt! "Coffee's not that bad," she muttered with a grin as they headed toward the commander's office. "No secret that we'll need all the help we can get straightening this mess out, though." And who better to do that than those who practiced the craft themselves? [NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Promenade, Deck 9 => Security Offices, Deck Front Ear Station] Sven seemed open to the conditions, however, Kova was confident that meant he had conditions of his own. More than likely, it pertained to limiting her choice of extracurricular activities. The Andorian took a deep breath and simply nodded. She had yet to agree with anything, but hadn't declined the offer either. At best, it would be wise to find out what they had to offer. It appeared that neither Rio or Kaya were gifted with a commercial mindset. Kaya was the first to suggest that Kova decline the offer, primarily due to coffee. Rio quickly chimed in saying that the coffee wasn't that bad. The Andorian looked between the pair of them. She could only conclude that this is what passed for humor in Starfleet. How she remembered from her own days at the Academy. She swore that she'd never fall victim to it. Still.... "Well then, Kova said flatly, "I suppose it's a good thing that I drink tea." She proceeded to follow the rest of the group as they proceeded to the Security officer, where apparently Commander Eastman was waiting for them. Kova certainly knew whom the woman was. She was the executive officer of Front Ear Station, and was far more organized that Parsnips could have every hoped to be. She had yet to become acquainted with the woman, and with all honesty, she wasn't in a rush. One could argue that it was a disadvantage to be known by members of the Senior staff. Kova would simply have to find a way to make this meeting work to her advantage. As they reached the Commander's location, Kova shrugged at Rio's words. It seemed they essentially needed someone who could interpret a criminal's perspective. Hopefully, that wouldn't be the extent of her usefulness. She waited patiently to see which of the officers would begin their reports. "Energy spikes!" Kova said as the idea randomly popped in her head. "Cloaking technology adapted or not requires large amounts of energy. We could use the station's layout of the EPS relays to identify the locations of those spikes."A program could certainly be written to alert Security any time one of those spikes flared. Kova would likely need a look at that device to see if she could write a program that could activate them. Possibly some sort of amended diagnostic code could speed things along, at least to assist in removing the station's blind spots.

"Commander Judy Eastman, First Officer," she introduced herself, extending a hand to shake in the proper civilian fashion. Still seated, she then looked at the group more closely, as she took off her glasses. "I assume Lieutenant Aune sent you," she addressed them all. "What do you have to report to me?"

Enter the odd group; Judy peered over her glasses. Crewman Sosa she recognized, Crewman Som too, but the Andorian was a stranger to her. Still seated, she then looked at the group more closely, as she took off her glasses. "I assume Lieutenant Aune sent you," she addressed them all. "What do you have to report to me?" [NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Security Offices, Front Ear Station] As Kova entered the office, she had a strange sense of déjà vu. It felt as if she were walking into the commandant's office back at Starfleet Academy all over again. Her eyes eventually fell upon the woman that introduced herself as Commander Eastman. Somehow, still seated, she seemed to loom over everyone else in the room. Her eyes scanned the trio that stood before her, but Kova couldn't help but feel that she was the one being scrutinized. Kova's eyes looked at the outstretched hand, and slowly she reached out to take it with her own. "Kova Sh'qaleq," she said introducing herself as she shook hand. "Freelance programmer and... potential consultant." She wasn't sure if she should have added the last part or not. It wasn't as if she had been officially vetted, and it was a position that Sven had offered her only a few minutes ago. Something like that probably had to go through her. Tough if Sven wanted to be the one to break the news, because the cat was out of the bag now. As Eastman pointed out that she knew they'd been sent by Aune, she wanted to know what they had to report. Kova looked between the others to see who wanted to be the first to break the news. Eventually, she summed up what she hoped would at least justify her being present. "I think I know how to help you find the rest of those dampening devices. I just... need access to the station's EPS layouts and authorization to author and upload a new diagnostic program."Kova began to wonder if she should ask for a small moon while she was at it. She had no idea if the executive officer would agree to that, but wouldn't be surprised if she said no. In fact, she was expecting it. She supposed she could try to coach someone through the process. Kaya certainly seemed bright enough to do so. She wasn't privy to her skill at programming, but thus far she'd been impressive. Of course, if issues arose, it'd be a pain in the posterior trying to troubleshoot any kinks that arose along the way.

Kaya stepped forward and set the extracted device down on the desk with a clunk. They'd been able to detach it from the power source safely and someone more important in Engineering would no doubt be putting it under the knife for a proper autopsy soon. "They have to be installed and triggered manually," she told the Commander, "and attached along something it can source power from. We found this one in a grate under the floor." "The parts looks stock to me," Kaya added. "I don't think its mass-produced. You can see the tool marks." That meant to Kaya that the devices were either hand-made or manufactured well off the regulations.

2 Days Later
[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - First Officer's quarters, Front Ear Station]
With the day winding down, Judy sat down to record her log. She had a big, meaty issue to note today. =A= "First Officer's log, Stardate holy-cow-I'm-ancient," =A= she opened. =A= "Today, we formally filed charges against Mr. Fatax. Our investigations revealed a distressingly complex ring of crime that had taken hold on the station. Using various questionable figures, like the former Petty Officer Nonch, Mr. Fatax essentially made station security blind to a variety of transgressions, which he variously blackmailed and sweet-talked station residents into committing. We've found out that he treated his criminal ring as a sort of army, with the most hideous of jumpsuits as their uniforms, and missions handed down from him. We have, thanks to the evidence uncovered by our officers, found all this, and have now charged him with the responsibility for a variety of crimes, which could land him in a penal colony for many years. Mr. Fatax insists that he was only a middleman, but I hardly find that credible."
"Regardless, we hope to see the station's crime rate drop, and business activity rise. End log." =A=
