Deck 9 | PromenadeAs they waited for the technician to arrive, Rio looked up at the light that was the proposed source of the errant field, then frowned. "We maybe might should have the entire station scanned when we get a chance?" Goodness knew, there could be locations like this all over the place, of different sizes. "I mean, is that even possible, to have more than one cloaked site? There could be all sorts of things going on that no one is any the wiser to." It was hard to look for something you didn't even know you had to look for! But this could be the root of so much more. "Looks like we have our work cut out, unless the tech people could figure things out through remote scans?

[...] "Crewman, there's a sensor net that's been messed with on Deck 9 of the Promenade, and they need an engineer. Your point man is Lieutenant Sven Aune; he's... hard to miss," Judy ordered, a little smile returning to her face at what an understatement this was. Sven Aune was, much like poor Lt. Hugo, an absolute mountain of a man.[...] Part of Kaya Som would have liked to remain in the Intel office and see what became of a mole on board the station. But the other part was grateful to be ordered out of the room - she found Intel somewhat creepy. Clandestine things often did. "Aye, commander," Kaya replied and nodded her acknowledgement to Ensign Hudson. [ Crm Kaya Som | Deck 9, Promenade]Commander Eastman had not exaggerated. From halfway down the promenade she knew she was in the right place. Lieutenant Aune stood out like a bear, head and shoulders above an Andorian. She recognized Sosa from the enlisted barracks. Also with them was a stationer who looked like he'd rather be anywhere else. "Hey, I'm Som. You've got troubles with the sensors?" She shrugged her equipment bag up on her shoulder better and tucked her hair behind her ear, looking around at the crack team. "Did I hear something about a cloaking device?" she asked, her interest definately piqued. And then, Kaya Som honored her curiosity further, and nodded at the human stationer. "What's his deal?" Kaya Som sat momentarily motionless. For the few moments between the order and the clearance override, Kaya wasn't sure if the commander was implying she knew that Kaya knew how to go where she didn't belong. She was relieved when the proper channels were cleared away before Kaya had to ask for confirmation. The water had sat awkwardly untouched for too long. She took a quick sip, set it back down, and went to to rooting around in the private life of Trelech bim Nonch. What the commander knew that shuffled Nonch to the top of a list of two, Kaya couldn't tell, but with those names and the right clearance, Kaya could get her answers. She expected to find Nonch's accounts in disarray, mulitple accounts in multiple currencies in bad standings, evidence of money moving around, the whole thing very anxiety-making. But what she found was far more stable. "Well, Nonch is not in debt anymore. I mean, yes, a bit, but someone's paid off most of it." Kaya raked her fingers through her hair. "Currency conversion is latinum. Account holder Fatax of Ferenginar." Judith Eastman , Matthew Harmon (Hudson) [Intelligence Office - Ensign Hudson]"He looks like our guy," Hudson replied to Eastman affirmatively. She was right, the Tellarite seemed like a likely suspect. Hudson was quick to judge and condemn the man as a traitor, but once the XO began to tell his story she felt sorry for the man, especially as she looked at his service record. The man was decorated and clearly served well during the war but something must have happened and the man spiralled downward after the war and was even demoted. Hudson was part of the new generation of officers that began service after the war had ended. She often forgot the immense toll it had on many of those she served with. She hoped such a thing would never happen again. Her expression turned more serious and solemn, her usually bubbly and excited demeanour soured. "Aye, ma'am," she replied as she quickly cancelled Nonch's clearance and accessed the footage of his workstation, downloading footage from the times in question for later analysis and also accessing the current feed. "He seems to be at work now, ma'am."
Tag: Judith Eastman Kaya Som [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) -Intelligence Offices]Judy sighed, a mixture of relief and sadness. It would've been easier if she was wrong, but she was so painfully right. Trelech bim Nonch, a brother-in-arms despite being almost a complete stranger, was a tragic figure, and his connection with Fatax, their suspect from earlier, only confirmed that. "Right. Let's keep looking," she suggested, before she was interrupted by an incoming hail. =/\= "Lieutenant Aune to Commander Eastman-Williams. We have found some very unusual readings down here on the promenade. It looks as if the sensor net is being deflected in such a way that it's not tripping any alarms and creating a hole in security. Eastman out," =A= she shot out, using only her maiden name (as was her custom) out of sheer convenience. But, of course, he'd neglected to specify location. =A= "Computer, locate Lieutenant Sven Aune," =A= the First Officer instructed. =A= "Lieutenant Aune is on Deck 9," =A= came the reply. "Ensign Hudson, what do you suppose we should do next?" she asked, letting the youngster take the lead and show initiative - or not.

"We should look into the account that sent the money to Nonch. See if the account that deposited it has made any other deposits lately. That could help us find other potential accomplices to this crime or even other crimes that we aren't yet aware of," she proposed. Of course it was entirely possible different accounts would be used and the trail would go cold, but there was no harm in trying. Aside from the law which might get in their way, but that was a later problem, a technicality in Hudson's mind. The priority ought to be dealing with this syndicate or whatever it was. It seemed to have some resources if it was able to pressure Starfleet personnel. She wondered what their end game was. "We should also keep an eye on Nonch, see what he does and if whoever is behind these crimes decides to contact him again. Or if he contacts them and starts panicking once he realises we've rescinded his clearance."

She appreciated his efforts, even after the awkward silence, that took her a little time to respond too as she breathed through a contraction. " Just keep talking to me and be encouraging" she replied, barely getting her words out, before she paused, instinct taking over the fear, when she felt the strong urge to push. "Yutann under a faucet?" Well, there was a pretty descriptive picture, although Rio wasn't sure how that had anything to do with electronic fields. And it would have probably been better if Kova had taken the tricorder, but Sven distracted her with his question, and Rio had to grin. The man didn't hold back, that was certain. But it was true that she'd be a good asset, especially since it seemed that she'd been here a while and knew the place. "Got something..." Frowning, she double-checked the readings, then showed them to the others. "Is that what we''re looking for?" Mercer did seem agitated, and the Andorian was too in her way. Something about all this didn't feel right. Sven looked at the Tricorder. He wasn't a full blown engineer, and what he was was quite strange. But he couldn't rectify it. "I'm going to call this on in." he said to Rio. =/\= "Lieutenant Aune to Commander Eastman-Williams. We have found some very unusual readings down here on the promenade. It looks as if the sensor net is being deflected in such a way that it's not tripping any alarms and creating a hole in security. But I can't make heads nor tails out of these readings. Requesting an engineer." =/\= He looked to Kova. "You've seen anything like this before?"
[NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Deck 9, Promenade, Front Ear Station] Kova hadn't wanted to be presumptuous. There was always the possibility that these security officers were looking for a reason to toss her into a cell right alongside Mercer. Of course, now, he had begun to start behaving more like a timid mouse. Why was he growing cold feet all of a sudden? Kova looked around briefly. Was it possible that someone had been there watching, and that's what had gotten Mercer spooked? Or had too much been revealed too quickly for his tastes? Kova hadn't noticed anyone glaring in their direction. If someone else was present, they were well hidden. Finally, the Andorian began to move towards the tricorder with the others, as they were clearing having trouble understanding entirely what they were seeing. "Think of it as a cloaking field. The technology is similar to how cloaking technology works. They refract or bend the light around the vessel, making it appear invisible." Kova moved closer to get a look at the tricorder. "Essentially, someone is cloaking that spot. And the emitter looks to be coming from... there." She pointed towards one of the light fixtures, but again moved away, not wanting to get too close to that perimeter. She then listened as Sven called the station's executive officer and reported to her. Thus far, her name had been kept out of this. Hopefully, it would remain as such. He then asked if she'd seen anything like this before. "I've seen people effect personal cloaking devices to wear," she began, "but I haven't seen anyone use it to make a blind spot. Technically, it's easily adaptable. That is... for everyone except the Federation." How the humans and Vulcans had ever agreed to not using a cloaking device was beyond her.

Sven Aune , Rio Sosa , Isaiah Quinn |Promanade || lt. Sven Aune | Arnold Mercer |"Absolutely," Sven responded to ensign Rio. as he recuffed Mercer. The thought that there were large gaping holes in the sensor grid was very disconcerting and a testament to Parsnips lack of leadership. Security had been very lax during, and possibly corrupted. Bought out security personnel et. cetra. And this would have to be addressed. The Andorian was right to be suspicious. His brow furrowed as he addressed Kova. "Given the nature of this tech, how long do you think this has been here? How easily adaptable would it be to implement in other areas?" Oh, the idea they would have to search for these holes within the personal quarters was going to open a whole new can of worms. Not to mention privacy issues. That's a problem for the JAG. But as security enforcing it, he and his would be on the front lines taking the brunt of any upset. That's when Kaya appeared. "Ya. A kind of off shoot technology of sorts I think. We've found a hole in the sensor net. Can you locate the device that is causing this and take it down?" he asked the Trill. Mercer, being the person he was, still nervous, gave the engineer a wink and a little pantomimed kiss. "Hey there...."

[Fells Halgerdur-floor 29] He was more than glad that the burglar took off without a fight. Fells knew himself well enough, that he could not stand by and watch someone get beat up. He'd fight for him...and possibly end up in a bad spot again. For a second he contemplated chasing him. The Fells bent down and looked at the young guy on the ground, who had been kicked and beaten. Reaching for broken glasses, he held them out to the stranger. "One glass is still good." He also offered him a helping hand. "Are you okay? He hit you pretty bad. Should I call for a medic?" [Petty Officer Kellen Gates - Passageway, Deck 29, Front Ear Station]Kellen Gates took his spectacles from the man and peered at them for a moment before putting them back on. He blinked to test. His saviour was correct; one lens was indeed still intact. The other had a large crack down the center of it, but one eye was better than none. He sucked in a huge breath, winced at the pain in his jaw and then grasped the man's hand. He groaned as he straightened up and tentatively touched his upper abdomen. "I am okay," he responded, his experience telling him that his injuries were not serious. They felt pretty serious, however, but that was mostly because the young medic had a very low pain threshold. "I was going to report in to Sickbay anyway, I suppose now I have two reasons to visit." He was trying to be a little upbeat, but the truth was he was very shaken, and not at all pleased with his decision to leave Sierra and come to Front Ear. Kellen was also upset that he was without his things, but he was thankful to the man for interrupting Mr. Jumpsuit before he could do more damage to him. "Thank you, sir." He stuck out his shaky hand in greeting, one eye closed so he could see properly through the one working lens. "I am Petty Officer 2nd Class Kellen Gates, Medical."

Hudson was excited as the Commander praised her "excellent approach" but her excitement quickly dissipated as the Commander continued. The young Ensign couldn't tell if she was being patronising or genuine. She certainly seemed to be no fan of the way Intelligence operated. "We don't know if there are others who might have been compromised as well as Nonch," she replied almost defensively. As the commander continued speaking though Hudson settled after her instinctive defensive response. "We should let Security know we've found," she said sheepishly feeling like she was back in school again being lectured by a teacher.

[Turbolift] After some time, engineering managed to get the turbolift that had been caught in the localized power outage released. Because sensors and comms were affected, they had no way of knowing that that particular 'lift was occupied. To release it, they wiped previous commands, so when a turbolift was summoned to Deck 29, this one responded rapidly, so rapidly that it could be felt by its hapless occupants, the sudden movement jostling them seriously. When the turbolift doors open on Deck 29, they reveal Harmon attempting to help Lea deliver her baby inside and Fells helping Kellen to stand outside. Now that the lift is away from the localized area of power loss, comms are functional.

[Turbolift]"Alright...I can do that," he said more to reassure himself than Lea. "You going to get through this in no time," I hope, he thought, knowing full well that sometimes labour could last hours and furthermore knowing that they could well be trapped here for hours. "You know, you're going to be a great mother. This kid's going to be lucky you have you," he said in an attempt at encouragement. "For now just...uh...just push. And breath. Push and breath, you've got this." [Turbolift] After some time, engineering managed to get the turbolift that had been caught in the localized power outage released.
Tag Thea Baker , Matthew Harmon , Fells Halgerdur and Felicity Ellis [ Leanna - Turbolift] The reassurance that Harmon gave himself, before telling Lea that she would get through this in no time, was very endearing and again the expectant mother, felt that through the shear agonising pain of labour. This time was definitely more painful than the last, but then, Ari had only been three weeks early and Lea had the luxury of being in Jubilee's medical facility. Lea would certainly remember this one, for how different it was and would tell Aven all about his dramatic arrival, when he was old enough. " You're right he is and thank you" she replied through painful breaths, at Harmon's attempt at encouragement, which was appreciated, before he told to just push and breath for now. Nodding her acknowledgement, as she followed his instructions, finding a rhythm between pushes. Although it was difficult to remember how many, she just let her body to take over, letting it do what it was supposed too and hope that there wasn't any complications. That thought was kept in the peripheral area of her mind, not forgotten but serving as a reminder of her fear over giving birth this way. Knowing it was only natural but she had to concentrate, which wasn't easy, especially when the lift decided to start working again. Forcing her to cry out as it rushed to its next destination and jostled her about. This wasn't good and Lea was left feeling more terrified, mainly for the health of her baby. However before she could say anything to Harmon, the lift came to a stop and for a moment, she wondered if she was seeing things. " Fells?, Kellen?". she asked, confused, before the need to push took over again.

[Turbolift] Harmon was relieved when the lift began functioning again and after a moment of awkwardness as the door opened showing the expectant mother and the nervous lieutenant, Harmon was relieved to notice it was Fells there. He still didn't like the man of course, but was relieved that the father was here taking some pressure off him."So..." he started awkwardly, "It seems your kid's a bit excited to make his debut...he's on his way," he said in a poor attempt to lighten the situation with humour, a defence mechanism for him when he was uncomfortable more than anything.

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Intelligence Office]Judy listened. It was all good investigative work, but there was one thing off. Ensign Hudson's work patterns were very much Intel's work patterns, which were not Judy Eastman's work patterns. "That's an excellent approach, my dear, except for one thing: we're running in the direction of a silo operation," the older woman replied. "A silo is an operating unit that's more or less on its own, with only limited interaction with the rest of the team. Information from a silo goes up, to the boss, but not sideways, to the others working on the project. In some cases, a silo model makes sense, like when you need to protect highly classified knowledge, but that's not where we are right now," she explained, all the while maintaining a gentle, sympathetic tone. It wasn't Hudson's fault - this was how Intelligence did business, unfortunately. "You're right, we should dig deeper, but in the spirit of involving the other units working on this case, what do you suppose ought to be done before we dig deeper?"Judy sincerely wanted to help Hudson, and Intelligence at large, use the silo mentality less and become part of this crew and this team.

They have Fatax, so we can take a look at him and size him up if we find that necessary. I don't know if you've had enough interrogations to notice it, but what a man does with his hands when he's got nothing to hold is a serious tell."She offered a smile. "Well, interrogations or dates," she quipped. Then, she motioned for Hudson to stand up, and led her over to Security's offices. "I understand your mindset. There could be more moles, and we need to be careful," the older woman remarked. "The trouble is that when we act too readily on that possibility, we lose our team cohesion, and that's a fatal hit to take."Judy felt that, having gone against the MO of young Ms. Hudson's department, an explanation of the reason was needed. Entering the offices, Judy strode into a vacant meeting room with a few terminals. "I'm not sure about our legal standing to access Fatax's accounts, but we can access his public records. Things he owns on the station, movements, what-have-yous," she suggested. =A= "Eastman to Chief Melinh. I'm in your domain, and wondering if we have a legal basis to sniff around Mr. Fatax's financial records or if we need a warrant. We have evidence that he's been paying off a mole inside our system." =A=

[Fells - hallway level 29] The young man was a pityful sight. Fells wasn't sure whether he was really hurting this much or just had no pain tolerance. He also didn't understand the sick bay reference. "Fells...." Was his brief introduction.", you can patch yourself up....you look like you need it. Call security. They can look at the feeds." He motioned to the ceiling and the built in cameras. "Maybe you can get your stuff back." He offered him a sympathetic smile. "C'mon....let's get you to a turbolift." Fells offered him a helping hand and then looked around for the direction of the lift. It was strenuous but they got there and pushed the button.
"Can you tell me where the Eastern Starlight circle on deck 15 is? I'm new here." [ Leanna - Turbolift] [...] This wasn't good and Lea was left feeling more terrified, mainly for the health of her baby. [Petty Officer Kellen Gates - Deck 29 -> Turbolift]Kellen wasn't really thinking about Security, or "feeds", whatever that meant. He was thinking about his stuff, though. There were one or two items the thief had made off with that had belonged to his grandmother, and they were irreplaceable as far as he was concerned. He gazed off in the direction Mr. Jumpsuit had fled for a few moments, wondering at just how likely he was to get them back. Statistically, the young man knew it wasn't probable. He was able to walk, hunched though as he was, his arm pressed protectively against the suspected broken rib. At Fells' question, he frowned. "No, I just arrived here myself." He had no idea where anything was. "Literally five minutes ago. Then I was... well, you saw." He swallowed that pesky lump again. He still tasted blood, but at least he wasn't bleeding anymore. He distracted himself with wondering where Fells might come from. He hadn't before met a man with a plural noun for a name before. He was about to ask, when the turbolift doors slid open to reveal... "Mrs. Puzzles!?" He asked in response when he saw Leanna Mazal in a very strange position in the 'lift with an even stranger man. "You're very pregnant," he observed helpfully. To be fair to Kellen Gates, he wasn't firing entirely on all cylinders. But it wasn't long before his training would kick in. He stepped inside the turbolift without further hesitation and slid effortlessly into medic mode. "How far apart are the contractions?" He asked, his voice steadier as he looked at both Mrs. Puzzles and Strange Man in succession.

[Turbolift] Just before the doors opened Fells mused about the crime rate on the station. "I arrived today as well, got sucked into a crime, my girl friends bar has been broken into....seems like they have a real security prob...." The doors had slid apart to reveal noone else that said girl friend in a tell tale position. "Lea!" Fells almost screemed. "What are you doing?" Well maybe she wasn't doing this....He was down on all fours next to her reaching for her arm. "What's....are you giving birth?" Why would she not take the lift to sickbay?
Out of all people the injured medic seemed to calm down (strange!) and help here, which Fells was thankful for. But who was the other guy, who was awefully close to Lea. "Who are you?"
