[ Ens Joshua Niles - Blue Beta Bar, Front Ear Station ]When Commander Eastman's voice sounded over the channel, Niles barely managed to suppress a sigh of relief. She was there, and she was on top of things. Perhaps, at first, he had thought her overly cautious, but his opinion of her during the events of the space weather that had nearly crippled the Mac and the escaped prisoners running about had changed drastically. In fact, he'd found there might be much he could learn from her, such has moderating his youthful desire to act with the need to think and consider what was actually going on. And, this particular situation was indeed a great chance to put that example to the test! However, before he could speak, both Jeren and Lieutenant Aune had something to add. However, the big man's comment was most definitely going to be counterproductive, especially if the idea was to keep him under the radar, and possibly find a way to get him out the door as soon as possible. A Security officer who'd been within the room, being able to give a first-hand account, would be a powerful asset... but only so long as he was still breathing. "Mister Aune, please, I would advise to remain calm and do nothing to increase the tensions in here. Too many people are hurt already, let's not add to that count." It was... interesting for Josh. Of course he had been polite, but he had remained firm; he knew he had no authority to issue orders to the Lieutenant, but if the charade could be maintained that he was a civilian then, at the worst, he could remain an ace in the hole within the bar... but only if he understood what the young Ensign was trying to do here. Turning his attention back to Jeren, the Ensign nodded. "Sir, I'm a Starfleet officer; I was assigned to be your contact for your visit here, and this... really changes nothing. And, as part of my oath, my duty is to protect these people; the two aren't mutually exclusive. As for Commander Eastman, she is most reasonable, but I would advise you not to push her. Your threat to execute hostages unless your conditions are met will lead to the sort of response you do not want to contemplate; I don't know what grievance you want to address, Sir, but should you start killing hostages instead of talking it out, my understanding is she will make sure your actions do as much damage to your cause as she can manage."Crisis negotiation had not been something he had been trained for; in fact, that tended to be the sort of training that came later in one's career. However, Security was also trained to deescalate tense situations, so this was not entirely an alien task. "Please understand we cannot compel Miss Fox to come in here if she does not wish to, but Commander Eastman will see to it you have access to her in some way, but only if you meet her immediate terms. She requests you call your men away from the Computer Core, and release every young, elderly and injured hostage you and your people are holding. And if she says she will not bend, Sir, I would take her on her word if I were you. From my point of view, Sir, I would suggest you indeed make this show of good faith, and I would also recommend you also free Mister Aune; the last thing you need is someone as angry and as worried as he is in here, not if you want to prevent more violence." [Jeren - Blue Beta Bar]"Oh we will ensure you are the first to be put down," he told Sven menacingly. He was not sure who this man was, if he was a civillian or worked for Starfleet some how. But it didn't matter. He would be dealt with if he became too much of a problem. "I suggest you sit down and keep quiet before you do something we will all regret." He then turned back to the Ensign, who continued to do his best in what was no doubt a very difficult situation. "I am glad to hear your Commander is reasonable...however," he said, his tone going from initially quite light to more serious, "If she does not accede to our demands then we will have a problem. She can do her best to tarnish our image. She can kill us. It does not matter to us. We are prepared to die. We understand we may fail. But is she...are you, prepared to oppose my demands knowing the consequence will inevitably the deaths of at least a hand full of innocents?" he paused, "Feel free to make that clear to your superiors."
[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Ops -> Promenade Security Office]"We have to get her in there, because the alternative is a shootout," Judy agreed. Harmon and I suspect their goal is to get press attention, to promote a cause, so I reckon they'll take the deal." =A= The turbolift came to a halt, and Judy speed-walked to the security office, her bright-red dress standing out in this environment as well. It would've been nice to change, but there was no time for any of that. "Unfortunately, I come to you empty-handed this time," she quipped, a reference to the plates of baked goods she liked to bring on visits to the various departments. [Lieutenant Harmon - Ops ---> FNN Office]"Aye, ma'am," Harmon nodded before making his way to the turbolift to head to the FNN office on the promenade. He walked quickly towards the receptionist. "Lieutenant Harmon, Starfleet. I need to see Ms. Charlie Fox right away," he said in a commanding tone.

[Lieutenant Harmon - Ops]The Commander was known for her engineering background, she clearly had a better clue of how to actually go about stopping their comms than he did. The Duty Ops officer quickly began to implement her plan. "I agree," he said, concurring with her assessment of the Kurjarians goals. "We should try and find Ms Fox and get her in there right away. I know its a risk, but we don't have much of a choice." He wasn't going to mention it, but he was broadly sympathetic to the Kurjarians plight. Harmon prided himself on his humanist and anti-totalitarian worldview (though the term humanism was arguably quite outdated by now). Along with Eastman he was probably one of the few people on the station that had much of a clue as to the situation on Caldonia. However, for now that didn't matter. What mattered now was ending this situation with as little harm done to anyone on the station as possible. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Ops -> Promenade Security Office]"We have to get her in there, because the alternative is a shootout," Judy agreed. "Now, why don't you go find Ms. Fox and see if she's willing?"Judy supposed she didn't need to say that she'd want the journalist properly protected, as much as possible. Hers, like everyone else's, was a life, and as such it was their duty to protect it. [NPC - Chief Melihn Ryah - Promenade Security Office] Ryah scrubbed her face and stalked back out into the open part of the security offices. She heard Kova call her and wandered toward the Andorian to hear what she had to say. Leaning one hip against the desk and folding her arms, Ryah listened with interest. Good initiative, she praised at the end. That's exactly what we needed to know, and Commander Eastman is thinking along the same lines as far as getting eyes in place. Keep monitoring those areas as we get teams into place. Let me know if anything changes. She stepped away slightly before tapping her combadge and making a couple of calls. =/\= Chief Melihn to Avi Moz, please report to the security offices on the promenade, if you are able. I have a request of you. =/\= =/\= Melihn to Eastman, we've got some good intel on the movement of the other groups throughout the station. I may take the computer core myself. See if I can pick off the Kurjarians with a phaser rifle. May I suggest we consolidate to one place for planning purposes? Here, if you want to be close to the hostage situation in the Blue Beta. It seems to be the worst situation at the moment. =/\= Hostage situations were not her forte. "Unfortunately, I come to you empty-handed this time," she quipped, a reference to the plates of baked goods she liked to bring on visits to the various departments. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Promenade Security Office, Front Ear Station] Ryah seemed to be pleased with the intel that Kova had been able to provide. It gave some insight, but there were still a number of holes to be filled. It was certainly something that Kova planned to continue to work to amend. She had just been about to see to those exact duties when she overheard Ryah make a comm that essentially made the Andorian question the woman's sanity. "Wait, Avi Moz?" she asked, making not attempt to hide the fact that she had eavesdropped on the communication. "You mean the Bolian, Avi Moz?" Kova sincerely began to wonder if Starfleet had somehow transitioned into the business of trying to get people killed. At best, Avi was a wild card. More than likely, she was a walking, talking incendiary device that blow apart any attempt at resolving this peacefully. The silent gesture to share the information that Kova had compiled was the only mild distraction she received from Ryah. She forwarded the information to Ops for the higher ups to review. In the meantime, the situation seemed to read like a bad joke: So, a wronged, hostage-taking Zealot and a ballsy Bolian walk into a bar.... Three guesses how that one ends. The more the Andorian overheard, the more it appeared it sounded as if a bunch of Terran monkeys were flinging feces, or however the expression went. It sounded like the only thing these people wanted was a platform. If that was the case, then they sounded really dangerous. And giving them what they wanted would likely lead to Starfleet giving up all of the leverage they had. Not to mention tossing more civilians into the equation. The only tactical advantage Kova saw was trying to cripple their communication network, and making certain each group was isolate and unable to communicate with the other cells. Commander Eastman eventually announced her arrival by pointing out that she had come with empty-handed. The Andorian wondered if that meant she had nothing else to offer with respect to these Kurjarians. "Well, I might have something, but it's definitely going to cost you," said the Andorian. There seemed to be a moment of uncomfortable silence, that forced Kova to clarify her stance. " Information, not latinum." Surely, it couldn't have been that difficult to tell their blue-skinned aliens apart from one another.

I have a request of you. =/\= [ Avi Moz, civilian | Alliance freighter, docked → station security ]Avi Moz's workshop had been locked and dark for the past month, its esteemed proprietor having, apparently, joined up with the Neberrite Alliance. Rumors flew as to why - being on the run from the Klingons and ducking a debt to a Risian cartel were the top two. The reality was unfortunately more dire and less fun. She'd been blackmailed by Starfleet Intelligence to infiltrate the shady para-military organization on threat of being thrown to the Tal Shiar. The station computer found her anyway, in the mess of a Nyberrite freighter that was still docked at the station. The little blue bug in her big blue ear relayed the message. It hadn't gone off in days. She'd expected to hear Matthew Harmon's funny little human voice not her dear good friend Chief Melihn, but anyone would do. Without preamble, she threw her cards onto the table, slid what was left of her winnings into her hand, and stood up from her chair. "Don't cry now, I'll be back for the rest," she assured her fellow recruits. Some protested, warning her of when they were meant to depart again and that she'd better be aboard. She reminded them of how she'd cracked their tibia during training. Once she was off the freighter and aboard the station, she removed her outer uniform jacket. The station was in a bit of a nit. Hostage situation in the Blue Beta, apparently. She was sad to miss it. She didn't know what she liked more. More fun being a hostage, but you made more money taking them. When the stocky blue Bolian arrived at security, she had her Nyberrite Alliance jacket folded over her arm. She was sure to offer a bright, yellow-toothed smile to Kova. "You beckoned - oi, hello," Avi had begun to address Melihn but interrupted herself to make a face as the human in the red dress. Was that the station's commander? "Where's Harmon?" --- Kova Sh'qaleq Judith Eastman Ozu Saya [NPC - Chief Melihn Ryah - Promenade Security Office] Yes, that Avi Moz, Ryah said with a wry lift of her eyebrow and an amused smile. Apparently, the Andorian didn't care much for the Bolian. Press attention, hmm? she thought as Judy entered and explained the situation in the Blue Beta. The reporter may distract the group in the bar long enough for us to handle the other groups.Ryah was distracted again when the Bolian in question entered. Ah, thanks for coming, she said. Lt. Harmon isn't here at the moment. She glanced at Judy for further info on his whereabouts. We have a...situation currently. Several small groups of Kurjarians have taken hostages in key areas. We need some...unobtrusive eyes, if you're willing. I don't want to put any civilians in danger, but you may know of the best access points to some of these areas.
Commander, Ryah gestured to Judy to relinquish the floor to her. The chief was sure there was more that the first officer would want to add.

[Charlie Fox - FNN Office, Deck 9]"FOX!" The Andorian at the reception desk shrieked the name, then turned to fling a PADD at the redhead who sat less than twenty feet away. Kiasha, the advertising specialist/sometime receptionist was obviously very unimpressed with the officer, and barely gave him a second glance. "What the heck, Ki!?" The girl at the desk, who had just been about to nod off into delicious nap time, plucked the tossed PADD from her messy desk, and threw it right back at the Andorian. "Use your words!""You have a very important visitor," Kiasha said with a smirk, antennae swiveling back toward this Lieutenant Harmon. Charlie's eyes narrowed as she looked up properly, Kiasha's rudeness forgotten once she clocked the pips on the rather tall man's grey collar. She pulled her booted feet off the desk, allowing them to drop with a thump to the floor, then she stood, and waved the Starfleet officer over. "What can I do for you?" She asked, her tone not exactly warm, but not reflective of the general disdain she was feeling, either. "Need a restaurant recommendation? I gave the Blue Beta five stars last week, try the popcorn shrimp." [Lieutenant Harmon - FNN Office]
Harmon smiled awkwardly back at at Kiasha and nodded a thank you too her. Ms. Fox didn't seem particularly happy to see him, and while there were times he might have gone along with her banter, time was not a luxury he had right now. "I need you to come with me to the Promenade Security Office, ma'am. I can't explain here what's going on but I will if you follow me," he explained in a serious, professional tone devoid of any emotion. "Oh and, bring something to write a story with. You aren't in any trouble, we need your help," he added upon realising it may sound like she was under arrest or a suspect or something to that effect.

Ensign Yino was a young, inexperienced Saurian officer, fresh out of the academy. And at the moment, he happened to be the ranking officer in the Armoury overseeing the process of securing it from possible Kurjarian intruders. He knew deep down however, that were it not for Chief Tlunch, the gruff Tellarite NCO, he would have had no idea what he was doing. In reality, Yino was pretty much just sitting back and allowing the Chief to take charge, Yino simply rubber stamping all his decisions. Suddenly, a group of Kurjarians emerged attacking quickly and without warning. Yino stood there in the middle of the room shell shocked and unable to move. One of the attackers fired a shot, right at the young officer, who was saved only by the quick intervention of Tlunch who rammed into the Saurian, knocking him off his feet and out of way of the disruptor. "Keep your head down!" scolded Tlunch. "Surrender, lay down your arms, we do not wish to hurt anyone!" called out one of the attackers. Tlunch, the ever arrogant and aggressive Tellerite was having none of that, he stood up, took aim and fired several shots with his phaser pistol. He hit one of the attackers, causing a slight squeel of excitement from Yino before he realised the Chief had also been hit. The next series of events happened quickly, a grenade of some sort was thrown and Yino ordered a retreat as he tried to drag Tluch to safety, inside the weapons locker room itself where he and his men barricaded themselves. Once had calmed himself, Yino sent a message.
=/\= Ensign Yino to Chief Meihn...oh god...they've attacked us...they hit the Chief....we're holding out in the weapons locker. Help us, please! =/\=[Divri - Sickbay]
"Now, Doctor..." Divri said, pointing his pistol at Kece's chin as he circled the bombastic doctor. "Download the replicator patterns for your field medical supplies and give them to me. All of it. Drugs, equipment, everything." Sickbay was useful for the extra hostages, but the true reason they wanted it was that their group was severely limited in the medical equipment it had for its fighters given the Caldonian's restrictions on the technology. They had found many of their fighters dying from more minor wounds that could easily be healed with Federation technology, or so their source claimed.

[Charlie Fox - FNN Office -> Promenade, Deck 9]A line appeared between her eyebrows immediately. Charlie eyed the officer with suspicion, and the expression didn't lift even when he reassured her that she wasn't in trouble. Still not speaking, she snapped her fingers, and with in one smooth motion the spherical holorecorder on her desk rose into the air. Olsen hovered for several moments, LED lights winking, and then moved into position just behind her right shoulder. She reached for the leather jacket that had been thrown over the back of her chair, and then pulled it on as she moved toward Harmon and the front of the office. She couldn't fathom what kind of help that they'd need, nor why she'd be encouraged to bring a means of recording a story. If it was a propaganda piece that the Fleet were looking for they were barking up the exact wrong tree. Charlie had to assume that this man knew that. Olsen, in silent centurion mode, followed at a distance of about a meter. "I don't get asked for help by your type very often," she said eventually, her tone wry. They'd reached the threshold of the Federation News Network office, and she gestured for him to precede her. "This should be good."

Well, whether he was ever in control of anything here was debatable, but he had tried so very hard to keep a lid on the situation, prevent it from escalating too much. But he was getting to the point where he was uncertain if he could anything. At least, he was still close to the Clan Chief, close enough to reach him. And he knew what he would do. Reach with the right hand to control his weapon arm, and then strike with his prosthetic left; the cybernetic replacement he enjoyed from that elbow down did not sense pain, and the materials it was made of were much stronger than mere flesh and bone, which could do horrifying damage if he allowed himself to cut loose. But that was, so far as he was concerned, a distant Plan B... but that distance was narrowing quickly, and he hoped that a peaceful resolution would not become the alternative with force being the first resort... "Sir, Commander Eastman is extremely reasonable; but she is also implacable, and more than willing to take direct action if that is what she is pushed to. But if you are willing to meet her own terms, she will see to it you have access to Miss Fox in some way."There was little Joshua could do, but he still took in a deep breath. "Right now, Sir, you and your people are the aggressors; it is your fingers on the triggers, threatening not only Starfleet personnel but unarmed civilians as well. She is willing to meet your demands, but you can't expect the whole exchange to be entirely unilateral. So, I implore you, at least free the hostages she wants to see freed and get Mister Aune out of here before things truly get out of control. If you and your people die, or even get stunned to be charged and tried, you'll never have a chance to get your message out; it'll die in this room and you will have no control whatsoever on what gets out to the public. Please, cooperate with Commander Eastman and make a show of good faith. I can't speak for her, but she may be willing to compromise on the Computer Core if you let people go."

[ Avi Moz, civilian | Alliance freighter, docked → station security ]Avi Moz's workshop had been locked and dark for the past month, its esteemed proprietor having, apparently, joined up with the Neberrite Alliance. "Where's Harmon?" [NPC - Chief Melihn Ryah - Promenade Security Office] Yes, that Avi Moz, Ryah said with a wry lift of her eyebrow and an amused smile.
[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Promenade Security Offices]Judy's poker face served her well this time. The First Officer didn't relish a life lived exclusively at the Country Club, but Avi Moz was a little farther in the opposite direction than Judy liked them. She adjusted her glasses. "Yes, Ms. Moz. We know that you know this station a little better than perhaps we'd like you to, and if you use that knowledge for good, we'd certainly look favorably upon that," she articulated. She was aware that Harmon had motivated this delightful individual through less than kind means. She didn't want to sabotage that by switching from sticks to carrots. "Chief Melihn can let you know exactly what we need," she added, and then motioned for Kova to walk with her towards a passageway inside the offices. "Ms. Sh'qaleq, under the circumstances, if you can help us save so much as one life, I'd be inclined to give you... quite a bit," she said. "What's on the table?"

[ Avi Moz | Security Office ]' Ms Moz?' Avi curled her lip and looked again at Kova as if this was all her fault, somehow, for encouraging Starfleet. ' Look favorably,' now was it? Avi began fighting the fantasy of setting a demonstrative fire right before finding Harmon and pulling his arms off for making literally any person on this gotdam station imagine she could be imagined as 'helpful'. Her natural Bolian charm was going to make people like her if she didn't put a stop to this immediately. "Just flood the whole room with dark noise. Energy pulse. Radiation drag. Negative pressure. Kessian vapor. Fire ants. Seamus's cooking." Avi found a chair and had a seat like she was at home. She rattled off her hostage negotiation strategies to Melihn with such deftness you'd think she hadn't only just heard of it, as if it was all obvious. "Don't you have a human size of - ?" Avi gestured up up up. "What's he called?"

"This should be good." [Lieutenant Harmon - FNN Office --> Security Office]Harmon took note of the journalist's apparent signs of suspicion. He could hardly blame her, but didn't really have the time to do anything to dissuade her of that view. His grey undershirt also hardly helped, no doubt. "And I don't ask for your type's help very often," he joked back, though his tone remained flat and serious, possibly making it difficult to tell.
He led Charlie to the Security Office on the Promenade, walking at quite a brisk pace. He quickly got through security, being Officer of the Day and having the grey shirt helped expedite the usual checks. She was made leave her recording devices at the door with Security before he continued to lead her into the building. He stood outside the door of the room where he was told Eastman and the Chief were meeting and briefed Charlie. "First, I must warn you that all information you receive or come across in this building is classified. The information you are about to be briefed on is technically an intelligence briefing. Any stories about today or discussion of it with any third parties must be approved in writing by my office, or the Executive Officer of this station. Given the nature of our request, we are prepared to be more lenient and forthcoming regarding this particular instance. However, if you fail to gain approval before discussing aspects of what we are showing you in here you may be charged under the Espionage Act and subjected to a prison term or severe fines. If at any point you wish to discontinue the operation we are requesting you aid us with you may opt out and be free to go, however the confidentiality requirements remain," he hoped his mandatory explanation would do more to pique her curiosity and ambition than to scare her off. "Now before I explain to you what the operation that we wish to involve you with entails, I will give you some background." "As I'm sure you are aware we were receiving a delegation of Kurjarian tribesmen for a cultural exchange today. These tribesmen have seized control of the Blue Beta Bar and Grill and are holding its occupants hostage," he said getting straight to the point while avoiding providing any information not pertinent to her job, such as the breach of Sickbay or the Computer Core. "We believe there is at least one injured civilian in there and we have no reason to doubt the tribesmen's resolve or capacity to begin killing hostages as they have declared an intention to do so if we do not give in to their demands," he paused. "What I just told you is not classified and you may write about," he offered as a gesture of good will. He didn't have to and could have kept it confidential, but while it would come out publicly anyway in due time, him telling her this gave her the opportunity to get in on the first scoop of the story. "What will now happen is we will brief you on the specific operation we are implementing and what your role is to be. You may then chose to participate or not, in which case you will be released. What we will ask of you may put you in danger, however it may prove critical to saving the lives of those innocent hostages in the Bar. I will give you some time to think while I have a brief conversation with Commander Eastman."
With that, he left her outside and entered the room where the Commander and Chief were planning things, along with Moz. He was surprised to see that she had been so visibly summoned to Security, something which could not possibly bode well for her ongoing undercover operation if the wrong people saw her. He also did not want Charlie to see her as that could prompt her to investigate Moz's connection with Starfleet, something that would be very dangerous for Moz and destroy Harmon's operation. "Please be wary of how publicly you meet with my assets in the future, Chief," he warned, his tone not rude or upset but still stern and serious. The urgency of the present situation took priority however, and he quickly moved on. "I have Charlie Fox outside. I'd like to bring her in and brief her on her role in this operation with the Commander and the Chief as soon as possible so we can get her in there before they start shooting hospital," he stated. "I have briefed her on the classified nature of what she will be doing and informed about, and informed her of the proper channels for her to gain approval to begin writing about today's events."

[ Ens Joshua Niles - Blue Beta Bar, Front Ear Station ]Between Lieutenant Aune's belligerence and Jeren getting more militant about his position, the young Ensign was starting to feel the situation slipping out of his control. Well, whether he was ever in control of anything here was debatable, but he had tried so very hard to keep a lid on the situation, prevent it from escalating too much. Jeren was begining to become concerned that he may be losing control over the situation. He weighed up releasing this Aune. On one hand allowing him to go would remove a potentially dangerous and unpredictable hostage that could cause problems. On the other hand, if he were to release him along with the underaged and elderly hostages he would appear weak, like he was easy to take advantage of. That he could not have. "I am willing to release either the wounded, underaged, and elderly hostages that your Commander has requested of me, as a show of good faith, or Mister Aune and his wounded friend. I will not release both. I am willing to negotiate with you and your Commander, however you ask too much of me at this time," he stated calmly, his demeanour very much hiding the increasingly insidious nerves he was facing internally. "As for the Computer Core, I cannot withdraw my men without a reciprocal action from you. I will withdraw them on the condition that they may keep their arms and be escorted to your Docking Bay to be provided with a warp capable vessel. If you do not grant us this and attempt to retake the Core, there will be bloodshed. You may win, but are you prepared for that cost?"

[ Leanna - Hostage Area, Blue Beta] Leanna may of returned to almost silence apart from the odd hushed word with the other hostages, but that didn't meant that the Betazoid hadn't been listening. Besides she saw no point in becoming completely distracted by the events still unfolding right in front of her, even if she had wanted to retract within herself and focus on more happier times. With her senses no longer hidden, she allowed the emotions of the room to swarm around her, filtering out where necessary especially the hurt, distress and the slow ebb of life slipping away from Xander as well as the negotiations. She knew it wouldn't be easy for such a junior officer to be the one to negotiate between their captors and his superiors but she admired his strength for doing so. Although it wasn't difficult to pick up on his desire to find a way to stop this as he continued to convince the Clan Leader to work with Judy and reach a compromise. Then there was Jeren himself who was beginning to get concerned with how this was turning out, despite his outward appearance as he thought about his options and answered Niles. Realising how he hadn't wanted to look weak, even as he continued and made another compromise regarding the Computer Core, not overly surprised that the group had taken over other places on the Station. Despite everything it was reasonable if they didn't want anymore bloodshed as she stood and looked at them both. " We don't want any further bloodshed, if you're willing to compromise then think of your own people too and why you're doing this" she implored, before speaking more directly to Niles. " Tell them to accept Sven and Xander, before we lose him ... he hasn't got long left if he's going to survive, I can feel it".

[Jeren - Blue Beta Bar]"Oh we will ensure you are the first to be put down," he told Sven menacingly.
[...] |Blue Beta Bar and Grill || lt. Sven Aune | Xander McGrath | Xander was still out cold. His heart rate was starting to elevate and breathing became even more shallow. He needed medical attention quickly. Meanwhile Sven met the man's cold stare with his own. "I'll stand." he said simply, but his words conveyed not just his physical stance, but a psychological one as well. He would take a stand to protect these people. Let the ensign conduct the negotiations. Perhaps his own intimidating stature and unwillingness to stand aside would apply pressure on the freedom fighters to come to a much quicker resolve. Twist them up a bit. He had been bullied in his early teen years to the point where he was almost killed and hospitalized because of it. He would never allow that to happen again. These people would have to go all the way. But if they did that, it would certainty not help their cause and paint them in a very negative light. He folded his arms across his broad chest and spread his feet out shoulder width standing between the hostages, and the negotiator and terrorists. [...]

Jeren took note of the mans defiant stance, understanding the symbolism of his decision to stand. A look of utter contempt and loathing for this man spread acrossed Sven's face. He would toy with peoples lives like this. As far as he was concerned, they were past reasoning. He watched poor Josh trying to hold it all together. The junior officer was doing a bang up job with a very difficult and tense situation. And he knew that the way he was applying pressure upon Jaren was also applying pressure to Josh. Hold out a little longer. Hang in there...Sven stood there and took the news from Leanna with a nod that Xander was dying and now he was forced into a decision. Free the children and elderly, and Xander dies. Or free Xander and the children and elderly are kept in a very traumatic situation. Classic trolley problem. I choose track 3... Sven thought to himself. "No, you're going to release the wounded, the children and the elderly at the very least. You seem like a reasonable person," lets see how reasonable you are, "Lets consider what the reporter is going to find when they get here. Some children subjected to sever psycological trauma or a man dying. Sympathy for your cause will go straight through the deck plating." He painted a picture and as he did so he made an exaggerated thumbing from on high down into his palm where he ground it in while making a high to low pitch whistle. Just to drive the point home. "No one. And I mean no one who sees the report will have any sympathy for you or your plight when they see how you treat the wounded, the young and the elderly. You will be painted as fanatics and the best you will be able to hope for is a very long sentence in a Federation prison. So lets engage some common sense. Show the reporter that you are caring people who just need to be heard."Sven still wasn't going anywhere. He was going to continue to apply the thumb screws. Perhaps Jaren might just see the absurdity of this all, call it off before it was too late. For him and his plight. _____ Tags Matthew Harmon Thea Baker Joshua Niles

[Divri - Sickbay]
"Now, Doctor..." Divri said, pointing his pistol at Kece's chin as he circled the bombastic doctor. "Download the replicator patterns for your field medical supplies and give them to me. All of it. Drugs, equipment, everything." Sickbay was useful for the extra hostages, but the true reason they wanted it was that their group was severely limited in the medical equipment it had for its fighters given the Caldonian's restrictions on the technology. They had found many of their fighters dying from more minor wounds that could easily be healed with Federation technology, or so their source claimed.

If he did anything, they'd kill him. "As the ranking Medical Officer on the station, I am able to do that," he said. "Would you also like instructions in the proper use of these? I can train you."He was buying time, and also seeking to demonstrate his own greatness, as he approached a computer terminal. He input a few commands, and was then hit by the error message "Diagnostic in process. Cannot access files." "I can start training you now," he offered.

[ Avi Moz, civilian | Alliance freighter, docked → station security ][...] When the stocky blue Bolian arrived at security, she had her Nyberrite Alliance jacket folded over her arm. She was sure to offer a bright, yellow-toothed smile to Kova. "You beckoned - oi, hello," Avi had begun to address Melihn but interrupted herself to make a face as the human in the red dress. Was that the station's commander? "Where's Harmon?" [NPC - Chief Melihn Ryah - Promenade Security Office] Yes, that Avi Moz, Ryah said with a wry lift of her eyebrow and an amused smile.
=/\= Ensign Yino to Chief Meihn...oh god...they've attacked us...they hit the Chief....we're holding out in the weapons locker. Help us, please! =/\= [Cmdr. "What's on the table?" [ Avi Moz | Security Office ]' Ms Moz?' Avi curled her lip and looked again at Kova as if this was all her fault, somehow, for encouraging Starfleet. "What's he called?" [...]
"I have briefed her on the classified nature of what she will be doing and informed about, and informed her of the proper channels for her to gain approval to begin writing about today's events." [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Promenade Security Office] No sooner had Ryah confirmed that they were speaking about the same Avi Moz, did the Bolian actually arrive. Kova's eyes fell upon her and narrowed at the sight of that cocky smile of hers. What the hell was she doing there anyway? Perhaps Chief Melihn thought it'd be best to have her under lock and key before anything else went wrong. Though, as Bajoran-Trill security officer spoke to Avi a different revelation washed over the Andorian. "Wait a minute," Kova said, not even trying to hide the contempt in her voice. It was all right there in front of her. The mention of Harmon and that Nyberrite jacket draped over Avi's arm. "He picked you?!" Kova scoffed, certain that it was officially possible for everything to go to hell in a handbasket. Commander Eastman seemed to usurp control of the room before anything further descended into chaos. Kova's eyes continued to eye the Boilan as Eastman ushered her towards the offices. Though not before the Andorian overheard a comm from the team near the armory. If she had doubts before, it was quickly becoming apparent what sort of people they were looking for. This was nothing more than an elaborate snatch and grab. They may have been prepared to die, but they wanted something out of the deal. The Blue Beta Bar was just a distraction. Sickbay... the Armory... those were the targets. That and what else... a way off the station? A ship? Hearing Eastman's voice, Kova began to focus on the woman's words. She couldn't help but feel as if she were being handled to an extent. Foldng her arms in front of her chest, Kova considered it. Perhaps this was the extent of their arrangement: quid pro quo... and trust as far as one could be bought. "We can discuss what you're inclined to give later," Kova said. "What you need, is an opening. Zechariah can give that to you."Kova reached into her pocket, producing what appeared to be a cylindrical tube, large enough to be concealed in one's hand. "It's something I worked on for a former client." The Maquis. "This is a transmitter. What it does is lock on to the nearest comm frequencies. Once the link is established, it uploads a virus to all receiving comm units within 20 to 25 meters, effectively making those units tasers." She'd seen a fair share of Cardassians get a nice little jolt courtesy of it. "It should incapacitate those it hits for a few seconds. It may or may not be long enough to move a team in to position, but... anyone already there could get a handle on the situation."It was a bit of a double-edged sword. Whomever was deploying it would be incommunicado, and anyone nearby would fair a great deal better if they left their comm badge behind. It was then that Lt. Harmon appeared, seeking an audience with Commander Eastman. Kova rolled her eyes at the man. She hadn't even earned a call back. For that matter, she didn't even earn a call. Was it really that difficult to tell her and Avi apart? At the very least, all people had to focus on was the hair... or lack thereof in Avi's case. "When this is over, Spook, let's have lunch. It'll be my turn to ghost you."Sensing that he probably wasn't going to open his mouth with her nearby, Kova made a rather audible sigh as she stepped away, giving them whatever perceived privacy would suit the spook.

Lieutenant Harmon - FNN Office --> Security Office]Harmon took note of the journalist's apparent signs of suspicion.
With that, he left her outside and entered the room [...] [Charlie Fox - Security Office, Promenade]Charlie snorted with amusement at the clap-back from the officer, not concerned as to whether he meant it in jest or not. The simple truth was her history with the Fleet was a colourful, often antagonistic one, but since her arrival on Front Ear both she and the uniforms had avoided each other. That was likely something to do with her lack of clearance to poke her nose in nooks and crannies where it wasn't welcome, and the fact that the most salacious thing she'd written in the last four months was the Parsinp pun she'd slipped into the farewell piece about the woman. Cutting edge stuff. She followed at her own pace, realising quickly that in order to keep up with Harmon's long-legged, rushed stride, she'd have to break into a jog and break a sweat. Charlie only broke a sweat for one thing, and she had far too many items of clothing on for that. She wasn't happy about having to hand over her gear, and she made that quite known as she slapped each item into the provided dead box. No signal would get in or out, but she plucked Olsen from the air, deactivated it, and set it atop the box instead of adding it to the rest of the equipment inside. "This one stays out," she warned, before following the Intelligence officer toward a nearby door. There she stood and listened in complete silence to the torrent of information he was spewing at her. She could only imagine the gamut of expressions her face was running through as she processed everything. Threats of the Espionage Act and prison time meant very little to her; it was nothing she hadn't heard before. She'd ask no permission for the things she wrote, and as far as she was concerned, the only person who needed to sign off on her work was her editor. But these people didn't need to know that, so she played along, and gave a careful, measured nod. Inside, she was impatient for the meat of this story. And then it came. Kurjarians had taken hostages in the Blue Beta. Her brows shot upward and her stance stiffened as she fought the impulse to make straight for the busy Promenade. But then Harmon rambled on about briefing her on their operation, putting her in danger, and what her role was to be. She crossed her arms, her eyes narrowed with renewed suspicion at him when he turned, and without even giving her the opportunity to respond or so much as a backward glance, left her in a hallway and entered a room. "Well."She had zero incentive to stay; he hadn't even told her what they were expecting of her, aside from her undying silence in all matters secret, pompous Fleet, nor had he given her any detail whatsoever as to what this 'role' was to be. No, thanks. What was stopping her from turning on her heel and walking to the Blue Beta and covering this all by herself? Nothing. She had no idea how long she'd be expected to stand around in a hallway like a spare tit while the bigwigs inside talked themselves in circles. She could only assume that she was there for one of two reasons: one being that they wanted to use her against the Kurjarians as a distraction, or the other that she'd been a part of these demands they'd seemingly made. Or quite possibly both. "This was about as useful as a fart in a jar," she proclaimed to nobody in particular, before she shook her head, uncrossed her arms and moved to retake possession of her gear.

Tag Judith Eastman , Ozu Saya (Melihn), Isaiah Quinn (Kova) Ears-on-fire Sven Aune , Matthew Harmon [NPC - Chief Melihn Ryah - Promenade Security Office] The chief flinched slightly at Harmon's admonition. Sorry about that, Lieutenant. She had only been thinking of the hostages and who might be able to help unobtrusively. She turned her attention to the Bolian, and Ryah's eyebrows raised as Avi rattled off increasingly dangerous, and then ridiculous, solutions to the hostage crisis. Her lips twitched at the last one. I disagree with your assessment of Seamus' food, she said mildly, leaning against a desk. Sven Aune, she supplied the name, face going more serious. Unfortunately, he's inside the Blue Beta. He wasn't even on duty. Not that that would stop him from doing his job, but I'm not sure he's the best equipped for a hostage situation. Ryah sighed and rubbed her hands up and down her arms. I think we could use you either in or outside of sickbay. Outside if you'd rather remain unobtrusive and just be eyes, but if you could get inside...maybe fake an injury or illness. Or one of us could give you a real one. She flashed a quick grin. At any rate, I need to get moving myself. Ryah moved to the weapon locker against one wall and pressed her thumb against the scanner, then entered a code, cupping one hand around it to keep anyone from seeing. If she'd thought of it sooner, she would have sent someone to get her rifle from her office. It was essentially the same as any other compression phaser rifle, but each one had its own feel, and she'd made a few modifications to her own. A standard issue rifle would have to suffice. She grabbed the rifle and slammed in a power cell, then dropped a bandolier over her shoulder with several more. It was probably way too much firepower, but she'd rather not run out if it turned into a fire fight. Commander, she said, stopping suddenly and turning to Judy. Do I have permission to stun any hostages if I can get all the aggressors with one wide-beam shot? It might be the quickest solution. Ryah preferred precision shooting, but it was more important to end the situation as quickly as possible.
