[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Transporter Room 2 ---> Jupiter Star] With S'Riia joining them in the transporter room, the team was now complete as they awaited the go ahead from the Bridge which didn't take too long to come through as Laurel accepted the iso tags with a non verbal thanks, then responded to Perry. =/\= Acknowledged, Commodore, Andrews out =/\=Laurel then gave the go ahead to the Transporter Chief and soon found herself on the Freighter that resembled some kind of ghost ship, thankful that she didn't frighten easily as she addressed her team. " Okay everyone, let's go find Commander Baker and the others".
************* [ Nurse Ramona Spring - Sickbay, USS Mac] Aside from a few physicals and the odd gym injury, Sickbay had remained relatively quiet until the call came through from the Bridge, asking them to prepare for incoming wounded and dead. Ramona knew that they couldn't waste any time in getting things ready, especially if they had found survivors as well as converting Cargo Bay 3 into a makeshift morgue. Of course hearing all of this, had an effect on the half Betazoid nurse but she couldn't let emotions get in the way of doing her job as she acknowledged the order. =/\= Sickbay to Bridge, understood, we'll be ready and I'll have a team sent to the Cargo Bay immediately to prepare the makeshift morgue =/\=The nurse then quickly arranged for a team of six to prepare the morgue whilst she and those remaining got Sickbay ready for the injured and possible survivors.

[LCDR Matthew Harmon - Bridge]Harmon very much wanted to know just how Kaya knew all that, but wasn't going to ask or push further so publicly. He'd have to find some time in the future to sit down with her. She knew far more than her age or experience would suggest and seems like she could be useful to him. He trusted her, and they had little else to go on anyway so he continued looking for anything in Intelligence files about the Talorian's that might be of use. The Federation's lax membership standards these days which Doug alluded too greatly irritated Harmon, but there was little he could do about it at this point. "We don't have many assets with the Talorians and information is fairly shaky and limited," he explained. "However, there have been early warning signs about a potential coup brewing. Dissatisfaction with the current government by the military, desertions, odd and unexplained troop and naval movements, thing's like that. It could be nothing and our information could very well be wrong. Either way, we don't have much more than that on their current situation. As for the organ harvesting, I can't find anything that could possibly fit or explain it. Closest we've got on record is ancient blood rites to bring about prosperity which sometimes supposedly involved offering up certain organs as sacrifice to the gods," he reported with a small hint of frustration in his voice. "I'll need to interview the survivors as soon as soon as they're on board, sir," he stated more than asked.

[Lt. (j.g.) Isaiah Quinn - Jupiter Star] Having reported to Thea, Isaiah turned his full attention to the issue at hand, and that was getting past this door and into the Cargo Bay. He turned to solicit ideas from the reporter, Charlie Fox, and admittedly wasn't sure what to expect. He had heard her reasons for being aboard the Mac, and it turned out that she was privy to the influence of people in high places. Whether she knew them directly, or was merely an instrument of their reach remained to be seen. Nevertheless, he at least knew why she was there. He didn't press the issue any further. Besides, if he had, there was no guarantee that she'd divulge anything more than she already had. He watched as she blindly searched her bag only to reveal an instrument a moment later. He listened to her explanation of how it worked, his mind wrapping around the physics as she spoke. Iconian technology? He certainly wouldn't have minded getting a peek at that. It's macro capabilities were utterly intriguing, but it's micro capabilities seemed to provide a means of achieving their immediate goal. The overall conclusion was that it could get them pass the door without trying to unscramble the door's passcode. With his hand on his phaser, Isaiah nodded towards Charlie, gesturing for her to proceed. There was a brief spark accompanying a loud pop that forced the doors of the Cargo Bay open. Isaiah raised his torch and visually scanned the hold with his eyes. Stepping inside, he continued to do so, and felt a very eerie chill run down his spine. "They didn't take anything," he remarked. Isaiah shook his head. "It's a standard packing procedure, used to maximize space for the cargo. Nothing appears touched, open or out of place. They didn't even bother with the cargo." His eyes turned towards Charlie, wondering if she understood the implication. It seemed that whomever had come aboard the Jupiter Star was only interested in the crew, not the cargo. Shaking his head at the despicable notion, his eyes moved towards the corner of the Cargo Bay where the heat signatures had registered. He used his head to gesture towards the direction. As he approached a portion of the wall, he held the phaser out in front of him, prepared to use it. His eyes noticed a vacant portion of the wall. "What the--" was all that managed to escape his lips as a Bajoran rushed him from his left (with the wall having been on his right.) Isaiah quickly lowered his body, his arms wrapping at the lower half of the Bajoran's body. He twisted and using the rushing male's momentum slammed him onto the Cargo Bay's floor. The Bajoran may have been in pain, but seemed to calm a bit as he finally got a look at Isaiah's uniform. A few moments later, a human woman emerged from the opening in the wall. "I'm Lieutenant Isaiah Quinn," he said introducing himself as he rose to his feet and offered the Bajoran a hand to help him up. "This is Miss Charlie Fox. We're from the Federation starship, the USS Mac. We're here to... offer whatever assistance we can."The words somehow felt empty, all things considered. With all the bodies they had come across, it seemed to be a very empty sentiment. "Is there anyone else in there?" The human female shook her head, though her eyes ventured inside. Mimicking her gaze, Isaiah saw yet another motionless body. Isaiah turned towards the Bajoran, and saw him wincing and grabbing at the small of his back, though most of his shirt was already covered in dried and fresh blood. Isaiah looked down at his hand, seeing some of the crimson liquid upon his own hand. "My... kidney," he groaned. His fellow crewman rushed to his side to offer him her support. Isaiah nodded and then carefully tapped his comm badge. "Quinn to Baker. We've located survivors two survivors. One human female, one Bajoran male. The latter seems to have suffered an injury to his kidney.""Took... it," he said before groaning loudly. He started to stumble, and Isaiah instinctively moved forward to help him support his weight. "I think he's going to need immediate medical attention. Also... the entire cargo manifest seems to be intact... and untouched. There wasn't any interest in any of this stuff." Isaiah turned his attention to the Bajoran once more, unsure how Thea wished to proceed: if she wanted to take a look first, or have him transported to Sickbay. His eyes then glanced in Charlie's direction, hoping what she was seeing here wasn't influencing her musings of the condition of the Orunmila. =/\= Acknowledged, Mr Quinn, have them both directly beamed to Sickbay, I'd like you and Ms Fox to accompany them, I'll inform the Commodore and will join you there shortly".Thea then made contact with the ship. =/\= Baker to Bridge, Mr Quinn and Ms Fox have located two survivors, one is missing a kidney and I've ordered them to beam directly to Sickbay, where I'll join them once the other team have arrived, Baker out =/\= [Charlie Fox - Cargo Bay, Jupiter Star]Once given the go-ahead, Charlie reached out to activate the small Iconian delivery device. For a few moments she eyed it, her mouth pursed, until she was rewarded by the hiss and pop that preceded the cargo bay doors returning to life. As Quinn passed over the threshold, phaser drawn and held cautiously before them, she unsnapped the gadget from the panel and followed him inside. She stayed well behind him, not just because entering the area gave her some serious heebies, but because she wasn't armed. While the Fleeters had let her tag along, typically they hadn't given her anything with which to protect herself. Her eyes darted from side to side, searching for tools, anything that she could use. "They were here for different stuff," she said, meeting Quinn's glance with a wide-eyed stare of her own as she took in the untouched wares. She suppressed a shudder, but she couldn't stop the jump-start when the Bajoran threw himself from the shadows and came straight for them. "Hey!" She exclaimed, stepping to the side and out of the way as Quinn moved into action. Behind them she was vaguely aware of Olsen strafing, and then curving around the action, maneuvering about the scene in a 180 degree angle. She caught the movement of the woman in her peripheral vision and turned to face her, red ponytail whipping with the movement. "We're friendlies," she added to Quinn's appeal, holding her hands up with palms out to show she was no threat. "Let's get you looked over, somewhere a little safer. Okay?" She didn't condescend to promise them anything further. Charlie could not yet wrap her head around what these people had been through, and it was possible she never would, but she could try to put herself in their shoes. In their place, she would likely have problems trusting strangers for the rest of her life. She moved to the other side of the Bajoran and offered her shoulder to him. Trying her best to ignore the fact that he was missing a kidney, she motioned the human female closer to the small group and prepared herself for the familiar tingle of transportation.

This man and his crewmen had been hunted and harvested. He'd been lucky enough to escape with his life, but who knew what sort of toll that could have on the man psychologically. Out of the entire crew's compliment, this was all that was left. It made Quinn wonder if the Nyberrite Alliance's push to escort freighters in this region wasn't something that more people should actually consider. Isaiah tapped his comm badge as he communicated with their ship. "Quinn to Mac. Four to transport, directly to Sickbay," he said into the air. "And one drone. He didn't want to forget about Olsen. There was a brief pause before the Cargo Bay disappeared from view and was replaced with the familiar surroundings of Sickbay. He felt the man's weight fall upon his shoulders. His eyes scanned for the nearest biobed, and he worked with Charlie to maneuver him upon it. "Easy," he said as he tried to follow the instructions for how to place the patient. Though, as soon as that was done, the smartest thing for them to do was likely stand out of the way. It seemed an orderly had already moved to see after the female.

[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - J upiter Star]As the Jupiter Star came into view, the surrounding scene began to assault S'Riia's senses. Reflexively, she hissed at the stench that littered the air. It was mostly the stench of death, but there was something else in the air as well. It was faint, likely the odor of those that had been responsible for this. S'Riia's tail remained perched upright, as she felt the adrenaline coarse through her veins. This was a massacre. So many other scents assaulted her nostrils. The decaying innards of humans, Andorians... she could feel the hairs on her neck standing up. After taking a few breaths, S'Riia calmed herself. She looked towards Lt. Andrews, hoping she hadn't caused much of a scene. "Should we go ahead and tag the corpses along the way, Lieutenant?" S'Riia asked. It was probably the most efficient course of action, but she honestly didn't care to witness this sort of chaos more times than was necessary. One of the other members of the team took out a tricorder and indicated which direction the away team was waiting.

[ PO3 Kaya Som | Jupiter Star, Engineering ]Despite the momentary panic from being questioned on how she knew what she knew, Kaya felt a surge of satisfaction that her contribution had been received without argument from the senior officers. It would be something to brag about with the other crewmen when this was all over and they were all trying to forget. As ordered, she continued to bring the systems online. It was possible in some cases to have a few systems spinning up simultaneously and checking back and forth and setting configurations. As she went, her skeleton key provided quick access. Internal sensors and flight control were already operational. "Access to computer core restored, Commander, and ... there's the warp drive." She snapped her fingers. Behind them beyond the mezzanine the warp core's reaction column illuminated blue and began humming away. The computer core allowed a cascade of other systems. "And that's impulse engines online, and full access to environmental controls online, as well. Working on tactical." Tactical would give them access to phasers, shields, and internal force fields. [ Nurse Ramona Spring - Sickbay, USS Mac] The immediate area had gone from quiet to one of action as those who hadn't been sent to set up the morgue, got beds and equipment ready, along with one of the surgical areas, should surgery be needed. In fact Ramona had just finished setting up when the brunette older woman heard the familiar whine of the transporter beam and turned as four people materialised in front of her. Ramona listened as Lieutenant Quinn, informed her about their patients and injuries, before he paused in order to help the Bajoran male, who had his kidney stolen from him. " Understood Lieutenant, we'll take good care of them and thank you for getting them here so quickly" she replied sincerely as the Lieutenant and her favourite journalist assisted the bajoran onto a bio bed, whilst Frink helped the other survivor. Looking at the vitals for both of them, Ramona made a quick assessment, then addressed the team. " Let's get this man prepped for surgery so we can fix the damage" she stated, as nurses and orderlies began rushing about in order to do that, leaving Ramona to treat the Human female. ****************** [ Lt Laurel Andrews - Jupiter Star] The information that she had received regarding this mission had been clear but that still didn't stop the normally iron willed Security Chief from trying to block out the smell of decay and death, before S'Riia asked if they should tag the corpses as they moved long. Glad for the distraction, Laurel considered this for a moment, then answered the PO1. " Yes that's a great idea, S'Riia, then we can start having them beamed up to the Mac, then we can focus on the supplies" she replied as she began tagging the poor unfortunate souls that they passed.

Humans, like many sentient species, had a horrible track record. They invented a religion, with some good elements and some bad, and then somehow, inexplicably, as they outgrew the religion, they took some bad facet of it, made it even worse, and then killed each other. The medical department had been forewarned to expect them, and wasted no time in stepping in to take their charges off their hands. Following Quinn's lead and the nurse's direction, Charlie helped the kidneyless Bajoran to a biobed. Once he was positioned she stepped backward and away, giving them room to do their jobs. She moved closer to the human woman, who was blinking with too-wide eyes and a blank expression. Beads of sweat had broken out on her forehead. "What's your name?" Charlie asked her, her voice soft so as not to startle the woman. All movements were slow, deliberate, just in case. "T-Tyler," she ground out, her eyes flashing from the biobed where the Bajoran had been laid, to the approaching nurse. "Will... Will he be okay?" She asked, her breathy voice carrying the telltale signs of shock. "He's in the best place," Charlie assured her, then glanced toward Ramona. "Nurse, this is Tyler." She might have been acting like their situation was as mundane as they came, that she wasn't just introducing the survivor of a horrific ordeal to a medical professional, but it felt like the best thing to do. "If you need me for anything, just shout," she offered to both Tyler and the nurse, before excusing herself to an out of the way corner.

[Jupiter Star - Engineering] Given Niles' slight exuberance and the need to prove that his idea was the right one, Thea had half expected him to disagree with what she had said, including the warning hidden within her words. However when he then admitted that he hadn't taken into consideration the fact that they were the only Starfleet presence out here, there was no need for any further admonishing. In that moment Thea felt old, realising just how much experience she had compared to others and couldn't remember if she was anything like Joshua. It was likely that she had been until the war and beyond, but at least he had seemed to learn the lesson for now. " Then we won't say anymore about it Lieutenant" she replied, before talk turned to the possible culprits and Niles' possible explanation for the Talorian method being used. " With the evidence we have so far, it's looking likely until we can catch up with them" Thea surmised, as Niles then used the newly operating internal sensors. The Doctor listened as he confirmed what they already knew regarding the supplies, as well as back up what Isaiah and Ms Fox had found so far in their search of the cargo bay. " That's good to know, especially when we recover everything and all we can do is standby and wait for Quinn to contact us again".When Harmon then spoke through the still open channel with the Mac, Thea's attention turned towards Som, knowing that the answer would be better coming from her. If she believed it to be the Talorians, especially from experience then she wasn't going to argue with the Petty Officer. " I think we've gotten as much as we can, Ms Som, how are the systems as we only need enough to keep her functional until she can be towed back to the station" Thea asked, before turning to Josh. " Once the other team arrive, I'd like you to assist them, since you're more familiar with the ship".Orders given, Thea awaited the other team's arrival to begin a more grisly task as Isaiah contacted them with an update. To hear that two of the crew had escaped the brutality was a relief in some way, that not all had been lost as Isaiah explained that the Bajoran male was missing a kidney and needed immediate attention. The answer was easy as any questions could wait until they were on the Mac. =/\= Acknowledged, Mr Quinn, have them both directly beamed to Sickbay, I'd like you and Ms Fox to accompany them, I'll inform the Commodore and will join you there shortly".Thea then made contact with the ship. =/\= Baker to Bridge, Mr Quinn and Ms Fox have located two survivors, one is missing a kidney and I've ordered them to beam directly to Sickbay, where I'll join them once the other team have arrived, Baker out =/\= [ Lt Laurel Andrews - Transporter Room 2 ---> Jupiter Star] With S'Riia joining them in the transporter room, the team was now complete as they awaited the go ahead from the Bridge which didn't take too long to come through as Laurel accepted the iso tags with a non verbal thanks, then responded to Perry. =/\= Acknowledged, Commodore, Andrews out =/\=Laurel then gave the go ahead to the Transporter Chief and soon found herself on the Freighter that resembled some kind of ghost ship, thankful that she didn't frighten easily as she addressed her team. " Okay everyone, let's go find Commander Baker and the others".[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - J upiter Star]As the Jupiter Star came into view, the surrounding scene began to assault S'Riia's senses. [ Lt Laurel Andrews - Jupiter Star] The information that she had received regarding this mission had been clear but that still didn't stop the normally iron willed Security Chief from trying to block out the smell of decay and death, before S'Riia asked if they should tag the corpses as they moved long. Glad for the distraction, Laurel considered this for a moment, then answered the PO1. " Yes that's a great idea, S'Riia, then we can start having them beamed up to the Mac, then we can focus on the supplies" she replied as she began tagging the poor unfortunate souls that they passed. [ LT (JG) Joshua Niles - Jupiter Star ]
As more of the ship was coming back online, more information became available to the Tactical Officer, he knew he simply could not just review everything on the fly. Instead, Niles made use of the newly reestablished main computer to set up a link to the Mac, and he started an immediate download of the Jupiter Star's most recent logs and records. All this information would come in handy when they would compile the mission report, and come up with ways to prevent what had happened to those poor merchant spacers to anyone else. However, the order that followed, as the ship was now coming back online, was one that took him by surprise, and not in a very pleasant way. Had he been the only one to study the specifications and layout of the Jupiter Star when she'd been declared missing? Had he been the only one who had taken things sufficiently seriously to prepare for the mission? And that, for the sin of trying to be prepared, he would be relegated to the recovery of dead bodies rather than learning everything he could to hunt the savages who'd butchered this crew. The sort of task just about anyone with a pulse could accomplish, and it was going to be his. However, he swallowed his displeasure. "Yes, Ma'am."However, he had no intention to get out there and track down piles of lacerated meat; he'd had his fill of being in a slaughterhouse, and the handful that were still in Engineering were still plenty. And since he'd not been specifically detailed to do things the hard way, he had a series of internal sensors, and ways to talk to the recovery team and that was how he was planning to deal with this issue. =A= "Recovery team, this is Lieutenant Niles. I'm currently in Engineering with access to internal sensors, and let's hope we can get this over and done with."=A= And, with that said, he started calling out locations where inanimate animal biological matter was concentrated, guiding the team members to the various piles.... starting with the ones in Engineering.

[ Thea - Jupiter Star, Engineering] With Som working her Engineering magic and bringing more systems online, it definitely felt like a small victory against their suspects, almost as if the Jupiter Star refused to accept death, despite the fate that had befallen most of her crew. " Excellent Ms Som, once Tactical is up and running, I'd like you to return to the ship and take the engineering station on the Bridge. No doubt the information you have on the Talorian's will continue to be useful and I think it's only fair that you get to be a part of tracking them down" Thea replied sincerely as the warp core throbbed to life. For a brief moment, Thea watched it as the colours within swirled and gave life to the other systems, before she heard the response from Perry through her commbadge. Hearing that Sickbay was already prepping for the survivor's arrival, gave Thea a sense of pride regarding her department as she acknowledged the hail. =/\= Acknowledged Commodore, I'll be beaming to Sickbay momentarily, thanks to PO Som we have almost all sytems back online and the recovery has also begun. I recommend that we request for a recovery vessel to tow the Jupiter Star back asap, Baker out =/\= Channel closed, Thea's attention moved to Niles as he acknowledged her order and no doubt internally cursing her decision to have him help the recovery team. It certainly wasn't meant as punishment more because she could rely on him to get the job done efficiently and well he wouldn't be the first junior officer to disagree with a senior officer. That particular memory almost brought a smile to her face, as he made contact with the recovery team. " I'll see you both on the Mac ... Mr Niles have the supplies beamed to the main cargo bay, once the bodies have been recovered".Final orders given and with a successful start to their investigation, Thea took one more look around Engineering, before requesting a beam out to Sickbay as she had patients to check on and an autopsy to perform. ********************** [ Lt Laurel Andrews - En route to Engineering] Tagging the bodies they passed had been relatively straightforward if not a little sobering, especially upon seeing the devastation that had been caused to each and every one of them. That and biting back the need to gag or vomit with the smell of death surrounding the team as they moved. Although with power being restored it definitely made their job easier, before each tagged body disappeared in a transporter beam to be taken to the ship. They were almost at their next destination when Niles spoke to them through the comm and had no argument with the need to get this done quickly. =/\= Andrews to Niles, agreed, the bodies we've already tagged have been sent to the ship and we'll be with you in Engineering shortly =/\=

[LCDR Matthew Harmon - Bridge --> Sickbay]
Harmon left little to time waste once the survivors had been beamed aboard. He quickly exited the bridge and made his way to sickbay.
As he arrived he noticed Charlie there. Great. She'd better not cause any trouble. He took a deep breath and approached the injured Bajoran, Nurse, and Charlie. "I'm Lieutenant Commander Harmon, Chief Intelligence Officer. If you could answer some of my questions as soon as possible it could greatly aid our investigation of who did this to you." He looked first to the injured Bajoran, then nodded curtly towards Charlie who no doubt would not appreciate his quick response, and finally he looked towards the Nurse hoping to get a medical all clear.

[ Commodore Calvin Perry - Bridge] =/\= Acknowledged, Doctor. Sickbay has been notified to prepare for the victims, =/\= Perry said before turning his attention to Harmon's report. It didn't seem very useful, but Sir Doug lent a perspective that it might have taken the rest of them much longer to come to. You're right, he said with a grim nod. It seems there are always a few people who like to go back and dredge up horrors from the past. Perry slapped the arms of the captain's chair and stood to pace the width of the bridge. Still, I think we can make initial contact with the Talorians. Sir Doug, see if you can find more on this religious practice in the meantime. [Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Bridge]"Religious extremism time!" Doug announced, seemingly almost eager, and then pulled up some files. Digging over subspace into Federation databases, he accessed Talorian scripture and began to read. He came across a text that seemed to mention the consumption of one's "innermost parts", which Sir Doug presumed to be a metaphor for one's emotions, but could be read as referring to one's literal organs: Doug could see an emphasis on the digestive tract, hearts, lungs, and/or ovaries. Doug continued to read the text, as he pieced together a ridiculous interpretation.

[ Nurse Ramona Spring - Sickbay, USS Mac] Ramona was immensely grateful if not a little starstruck upon seeing the talented and inspirational Charlie Fox speak with the woman who had no doubt been through enough horror to last her a lifetime. Admiring the way she was so gentle with her as she told her, her name and asked about her friend, thinking that she would definitely make a good nurse if she ever decided to change careers. However Ramona had to remind herself that she still had a job to do, even if she really wanted to just chat with the famous reporter. So as Charlie caught her attention, Ramona smiled at both her and Tyler as she approached with the tricorder to do a more indepth scan. " Ms Fox is right, he's in the best place and once he returns from surgery, you'll be able to see him, Tyler" she replied softly as Charlie then told them both, that if they needed anything to just shout. " Thank you, that's very much appreciated Ms Fox".Turning her attention back to Tyler, Ramona focused on the scans, pleased to see that she hadn't suffered any serious injuries, just some scrapes and bruises along with shock. That was to be expected as she prepared to clean her up, before Commander Harmon approached and asked if they could answer some of his questions when they were able too. Ramona knew that their Bajoran patient was in not fit state to do so as yet and as for Tyler, well she couldn't really answer for her. " Commander, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for our Bajoran patient as he's about to undergo surgery .. as for Tyler here, she's been through a lot, so I ask that you be gentle with her".That's when the familar sound of the transporter filled the immediate area to reveal the arrival of the Chief Medical Officer. ***************** [ Thea - Sickbay, USS Mac] Returning to Sickbay rather than the Bridge, had seemed like the logical destination for Thea, not that she doubted her staff's abilities, as the beam faded away and she found herself in the main treatment area. Considering that they only had two patients, the room was alive with activity as she took in everything, from Isaiah, Charlie and Harmon who Ramona was speaking with to their Bajoran patient being moved towards the surgical area. Knowing where she needed to be, Thea prepared to move off to join their more seriously injured patient but not before acknowledging those present, not that she was too surprised to see Harmon present given the situation they had discovered. Listening as Ramona brought her up to speed as Thea then spoke to the others. " The rest of the team should be back on board within the next hour maybe sooner and I'll be in surgery if you need me". Leaving the group for now, Thea quickly cleaned up then entered the surgical area in order to operate and stop any further damage.
