Return to the ship. Kaya replied in the affirmative and went head's down again to get her part done. If it was any other away mission as her first, begin sent back to the Mac early would be chafing but there was still blood on the chair next to her. That and vek'tema, the Bridge. She never would have guessed this was the kind of day she'd have. In short order, Kaya was able to restore the rest of the ship's systems with only some minimal limitations, which she reported in. However the ship had been commandeered and boarded, it had left some damage behind. It was functional but would need repairs later to get it back to normal. Job done, she packed up her kit and requested transport to the Mac [ PO3 Kaya Som | Jupiter Star, Engineering → Mac, Bridge ]Before she went onto the bridge, Kaya ran a thumb under each eye to wipe away any stray kohl so she'd look presentable. The doors opened and there it was in all its polished, twinkling glory. The front was dominated by the massive view screen - the Jupiter Star hanging in the black above them. From out here it just looked like an old but well-cared for junk freighter, the exterior belying none of its gory cargo. Harmon was there and so was the Commodore, and unexpectedly, Sir Doug. Kaya cleared her throat and announced herself, "Petty Officer Som reporting for Engineering."

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - En route to Engineering] Tagging the bodies they passed had been relatively straightforward if not a little sobering, especially upon seeing the devastation that had been caused to each and every one of them. That and biting back the need to gag or vomit with the smell of death surrounding the team as they moved. Although with power being restored it definitely made their job easier, before each tagged body disappeared in a transporter beam to be taken to the ship. They were almost at their next destination when Niles spoke to them through the comm and had no argument with the need to get this done quickly. =/\= Andrews to Niles, agreed, the bodies we've already tagged have been sent to the ship and we'll be with you in Engineering shortly =/\= [ LT (JG) Joshua Niles - Jupiter Star -> Bridge, USS Mac ]At least the team did not waste much time in reaching Engineering, and from there the Tactical Officer let the incoming reinforcements crawl over the bulk of the Jupiter Star while he remained at his console, finalizing the transfer of every scrap of sensor data and information that might have a tactical relevance to what happened to the freighter and guiding the team towards each of the bodies. All the while, he found himself getting low-key alerts as the ship's cargo was being taken off and stowed on the Mac. That, in a way, made little sense to the recently-minted Lieutenant. Putting a prize crew on the Star and sending her to make her scheduled delivery (albeit late) made a lot more sense to him, and maybe even leaving warp-capable small craft with her to serve as escort and as a sensor picket. Taking on her cargo meant that the Mac would be carrying those goods to their intended recipients, while going after the ones responsible? Should the ship then run into more trouble than she could handle, all of it could be lost... But, those were the orders from above, and as a junior officer his job was to advise... but it was senior officers who made the call and when the call was made, his own feelings stopped mattering and his job was making it happen. Just as he was now. And once he could confirm that the bodies had all been recovered, and the cargo transfer was well underway under the auspices of the Ops department, he found himself beaming back to the Mac, and the transporter's biofilters thankfully ridding him of most of the foulness that had splashed upon his uniform and he had been passing off his tricorder and phaser to the transporter room operator as he walked past him on his way back to the Bridge. Upon reaching Deck 1, Nile immediately returned to his post at Tactical, where he brought up the data collected from the Star as well as any of the conclusions that had been reached in his absence. Which, apparently, pointed even more closely to the Talorians than he had initially expected. However, he did have additional information to share with the Bridge at this point. "Commodore, based on what little the Jupiter Star's sensors gathered before she was boarded, the Talorians went unnoticed until they were right on top of her. Judging by the external damage the Star suffered, the Talorians hit them hard with relatively low-powered short-range fire that wasn't particularly accurate, but the idea might have been simply to cause enough shaking to make a ship that's next to unarmed heave to. And they must have some pretty decent sensors themselves; they knew exactly where to beam in and where to go to take the ship quickly and effectively. Odds are, they'll see us coming."

[LCDR Matthew Harmon - Bridge --> Sickbay]
Harmon left little to time waste once the survivors had been beamed aboard. He quickly exited the bridge and made his way to sickbay.
As he arrived he noticed Charlie there. Great. She'd better not cause any trouble. He took a deep breath and approached the injured Bajoran, Nurse, and Charlie. "I'm Lieutenant Commander Harmon, Chief Intelligence Officer. If you could answer some of my questions as soon as possible it could greatly aid our investigation of who did this to you." He looked first to the injured Bajoran, then nodded curtly towards Charlie who no doubt would not appreciate his quick response, and finally he looked towards the Nurse hoping to get a medical all clear. [ Nurse Ramona Spring - Sickbay, USS Mac] Ramona was immensely grateful if not a little starstruck upon seeing the talented and inspirational Charlie Fox speak with the woman who had no doubt been through enough horror to last her a lifetime. Admiring the way she was so gentle with her as she told her, her name and asked about her friend, thinking that she would definitely make a good nurse if she ever decided to change careers. However Ramona had to remind herself that she still had a job to do, even if she really wanted to just chat with the famous reporter. So as Charlie caught her attention, Ramona smiled at both her and Tyler as she approached with the tricorder to do a more indepth scan. " Ms Fox is right, he's in the best place and once he returns from surgery, you'll be able to see him, Tyler" she replied softly as Charlie then told them both, that if they needed anything to just shout. " Thank you, that's very much appreciated Ms Fox".Turning her attention back to Tyler, Ramona focused on the scans, pleased to see that she hadn't suffered any serious injuries, just some scrapes and bruises along with shock. That was to be expected as she prepared to clean her up, before Commander Harmon approached and asked if they could answer some of his questions when they were able too. Ramona knew that their Bajoran patient was in not fit state to do so as yet and as for Tyler, well she couldn't really answer for her. " Commander, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for our Bajoran patient as he's about to undergo surgery .. as for Tyler here, she's been through a lot, so I ask that you be gentle with her".That's when the familar sound of the transporter filled the immediate area to reveal the arrival of the Chief Medical Officer. ***************** [ Thea - Sickbay, USS Mac] Returning to Sickbay rather than the Bridge, had seemed like the logical destination for Thea, not that she doubted her staff's abilities, as the beam faded away and she found herself in the main treatment area. Considering that they only had two patients, the room was alive with activity as she took in everything, from Isaiah, Charlie and Harmon who Ramona was speaking with to their Bajoran patient being moved towards the surgical area. Knowing where she needed to be, Thea prepared to move off to join their more seriously injured patient but not before acknowledging those present, not that she was too surprised to see Harmon present given the situation they had discovered. Listening as Ramona brought her up to speed as Thea then spoke to the others. " The rest of the team should be back on board within the next hour maybe sooner and I'll be in surgery if you need me". Leaving the group for now, Thea quickly cleaned up then entered the surgical area in order to operate and stop any further damage. [Charlie Fox & Tyler - Sickbay, USS Mac]"No problem, ma'am," Charlie offered a messy salute in response. Though she made a move to step aside and let the medical staff do their jobs, she found herself hovering a little near Tyler. She watched as Ramona examined her, and found herself hoping that they'd be able to remove the shocked woman from the hustle and bustle of Sickbay before all of the horrific realities set in. And then Harmon arrived, and her jaw clenched. As much as she wanted to beat him to the question round, she had also seen first-hand the aftermath of the Jupiter Star's terror. She wasn't sure that even she would push for Tyler's story at that stage. Meanwhile, the CMO had returned, and no other transports followed, telling Charlie that Tyler and her Bajoran crewmate truly were the only ones left alive after the attack. Tyler, for her part, had stayed very still and quiet throughout her examination, but when mentioned by name by Nurse Ramona, she blinked, stared at her, then Charlie, and then at the tall, uniformed newcomer in turn. "I - what?" She asked, her face, once devoid of all expression, crinkling into one of confusion. "What is to happen to me?"An atmosphere of order was replaced by a panicked energy as the human survivor reached out and grabbed Charlie's wrist, her fingers tightening painfully just above her forearm. "I need to stay with him. We need to stay together!"

[LCDT Matthew Harmon - Sickbay]Doctor Baker soon arrived but quickly left to enter surgery to operate on the injured Bajoran. The other survivor, a human female was apparently fit to be questioned according to the nurse, though certainly seemed shaken which was to be expected. Charlie, thankfully seemed not to put up much of a fight or opposition to Harmon's entry. He wondered how much she had spoken to Tyler already, not that that really mattered especially at this point. It was likely going to be difficult to get much out of Tyler given her state but he had to try. He wondered what he should do about Charlie, especially as Tyler griped her arm. Usually he wouldn't allow a member of the press to be so near an investigation. However, this wasn't a usual situation, Charlie wasn't a usual journalist in his mind, and she was likely to simply interview Tyler herself at some point anyway and obtain the same information Harmon was looking for. "Tyler is it?" he asked with a softer voice than usual. "I'm Lieutenant Commander Harmon. Your friend will be okay. Doctor Baker is an extremely talented physician," at least he assumed. As he was talking he carefully, though awkwardly, put his hand on Tylers wrist and tried to get her to let go of Charlie without using force. "We have very advanced medical facilities on board. You and your friend are in good care, we will look after him." He looked to Charlie to see her response, they both no doubt saw some awful things down there and so he avoided his usual more unsentimental way of doing things. "I'd like to ask you a few questions if you are up to it. They might help us find who attacked you and your crew," he explained. "Ms. Fox can stay if you would like her to, unless she has other matters to attend to," he said offering Charlie an out if she needed some time to process what she had seen.

[Lt. (j.g.) Isaiah Quinn - Sickbay, USS Mac] It was a relief to see the survivors get ushered off for the care they required. He was still worried about the psychological trauma, and caught hints of it as the female survivor's behavior and not wanting to be separated by her fellow crewman. There may have been a romantic element between the pair of them, but if he had to guess, the emotions were more raw than that. In the end, he wasn't a counselor, and his duties required his attention to be elsewhere. Isaiah opted to use the medical lab in Sickbay to see what he could discern from the samples he collected. Seeing that Ms. Fox was otherwise preoccupied, he opted to speak with her in regards to Olsen later. Taking a tricorder, he downloaded the data that Olsen had recorded into the ship's computers. He also set a remote timer for the modifications to reset. It would happen hours from now, and by then, he'd be able to make certain that that was what Ms. Fox wanted. Isaiah continued to process the samples, noting Thea's return to the ship, as well as the arrival of Lt. Commander Harmon, wanting to speak with the survivors. It seemed the information of what had happened aboard the Jupiter Star was critical, and the firsthand accounts of its survivors even moreso. Isaiah continued to work at preparing his report. As he had suspected, there were trace amounts of inorganic materials within some of the tissues that he collected. Likely from defensive behaviors. Tiny fragments of metallic alloys which would help narrow down the type of instruments that had been used to remove the organs from their original hosts. There was also the perspiration sample that Isaiah had required. He narrowed down the genetic structure to handful of species, only one of which had been known to frequent this area of space: the Talorians. It was hardly an indictment, but it was certainly a place to start.

NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Jupiter Star --> USS Mac] The rest of the recovery team continued to move through the Jupiter Star, not only tagging the bodies of the crew, but also taking holo-images so that they could process the crime scene. The particular scent continued to plague S'Riia's nostrils, though it was more of a pheromone... a marker of sorts. Each species had one, whether they cared to admit it or not. Some were even sweet by her standards, such as those of Deltans or Bajorans. There were those that made her very hairs stand on end at times, such as Klingons. Of course, that could have to do with hygiene in itself, S'Riia was never quite sure. Either way, this one was much like that one. "Lieutenant," S'Riia said as she approached Lt. Andrews. "The Jupiter Star's crew compliment has been accounted for," she stated reading off the PADD she had. "The cargo has also been reviewed and checks off against the manifest. All there. The final load is ready for transport to the Mac." S'Riia lowered the PADD and stared out at the surroundings, still marred with stains of blood. "They treated this like nothing more than a harvest. A pointless... brutal... disregard for who these people's right to life." There was a great deal more that S'Riia wanted to say, but a great deal of it far from professional.

[ Nurse Ramona Spring - Sickbay, Deck 6] With Charlie remaining by their patient's side as she naturally asked what was going to happen and insisting that she needed to stay with the man who was now in surgery. Ramona monitored her vitals, keen to not let her get to stressed, otherwise she would have to insist that Harmon come back to ask his questions later. However hoped that her subtle warning would be heeded as Tyler gripped hold of Charlie's arm, before Harmon spoke to her and attempted to gently remove the grip she had on Charlie. "It's okay Tyler, you're not going anywhere and Commander, please be gentle with my patient, any sign of stress and I will have to call time on the questioning until later" she said, then added. " I'll be close by, should you need me for anything".Ramona then moved away from the bed, although kept within a decent distance so she could continue to monitor Tyler. *************** [ Lt Laurel Andrews - Jupiter Star ----> Mac] Even though it wasn't the most pleasant of assignments, Laurel continued to work alongside her team in not only tagging bodies and having them sent to Mac, but also the rest of the process so nothing was left in terms of gathering clues and evidence. They may of only been here for a short time, but they were making decent progress whilst maintaining efficiency and soon it would be their turn to beam back to the Mac. So when S'Riia approached and delivered her update with the information on the PADD, Laurel listened, appreciating that nothing had been forgotten, before the Caitian PO shared a personal thought with the Security Chief. " I agree with you S'Riia, I've never seen such a disregard for life, apart from during the war, but we won't let them be forgotten" she replied as she followed S'Riia's gaze towards the bloodstains. " If there's only one load left, we can return to the Mac" she added as she requested a beam out for the last load of supplies and her team.

[Charlie Fox & Tyler - Sickbay, USS Mac]When the man who introduced himself as a Lieutenant Commander touched her wrist, Tyler jumped, startled. She whipped her arm from his grasp, removing her grip on Charlie in the process. Absently, Charlie rubbed her forearm, which would likely bear some sort of mark from the other woman's death grip. "Yes, I can stay," she offered softly when Harmon mentioned it. "Your friend is going into surgery, but you'll be right here, Tyler." It seemed important for her to keep the Bajoran in her sights, and Charlie could understand that. She and Quinn had found them together, and there was no real telling how long they'd been there, hiding from the nightmare attack or listening to their friends and crew get slaughtered. He was all she knew right then. "The more you can tell Commander Harmon, the better their chances of finding whoever did this to you." Charlie swallowed, wanting to say so much more, but stopping herself. She couldn't promise that everything would be okay, that they'd find these psychopaths and exact righteous vengeance upon them, but she could say with honesty that the Fleet would try. "Beyen saved my life," Tyler croaked out, her voice breaking and a tear beginning to fall down her cheek. She was still deathly pale, trembling and staring at the Bajoran's biobed, but she was talking at least. "We were in Cargo Bay 1, cataloguing the materials for the next delivery, when they- when those demons came aboard. Beyen distracted them and gave me a chance to get away and hide." Her entire body shuddered and her hand wandered to a spot on her lower back, around where the kidneys would be. "They opened him up... They-" Tyler broke off then, unable to continue.

He was young, but appeared to have a good head on his shoulders. Let's increase our level and frequency of scans in the immediate vicinity, and raise shields. While the Talorians' technology might be enough to counter a small, lightly armed freighter, they may have more difficulty with a Sovereign-class Starfleet vessel. But that's no reason to be arrogant. Finally, Perry was able to return his attention to Sir Doug and the horrors he was recounting. How people could manage to come up with such terrible things to do to one another, he'd never understand. Keep looking. If we get through to the Talorian government, I will definitely be asking whether they've had a resurgence of this religious faction recently.

Sometime Later ....[Approaching Talorian Space] Once everyone was safely on board the Mac and with the recovery process complete, it wasn't long before the mighty sovereign class starship got underway, following the warp trail that they would be able to identify as being of Talorian design. Dropping out of warp at the edge of the system, the crew would be on high alert as they attempted to pinpoint and find the ship responsible for the atrocities on the Jupiter Star.
*************
[ Thea - Makeshift Morgue, Cargo Bay 3] Following the successful surgery on their Bajoran patient Beyen, Thea had left him in the care of her staff to recover, whilst she cleaned up before heading to the makeshift morgue. As much as she would of liked to have returned to the Bridge, especially when they went to warp, there was one last unpleasant job that required her attention. Considering that this had been set up quickly and without any prior warning, the Doctor couldn't fault the care and attention that was given to those who had lost their lives. Each person had been given the respect that they deserved as they were cleaned and processed so as to record cause of death and placed in stasis. Their names would never be forgotten either as she approached the area that had been set up for her. " Patient has been identified as Raoul Max, a Betazoid male, age 35 .... aside from the obvious signs of organ removal ... I will now begin".With computer recording her every detail, Thea began the autopsy, giving Raoul the same respect as those before him.

[Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Bridge]Doug continued to read. "This is interesting," he said to the Commodore, and continued to read as more personnel showed up to report. "There is a passage in their scripture. In the book of Trab, it is written that, 'he who shall', and there's a word that means either dominate or consume, 'he who dominates or consumes internalities, he shall find long years of gold.' If you look at this innocently, it really means you should take control of your feelings, but if you want to, you can interpret it as saying you should eat organs," Doug shared. "The Book of Trab is a manual for becoming rich and powerful, within their scripture, so I think it's pretty easy to assume, isn't it?"Yes, this seemed clear to Sir Doug. These folks were eating organs for some ritual significance. [ Commodore Calvin Perry - Bridge] The away team started returning from the freighter, and Perry returned to the center chair as members of the team began arriving on the bridge. He nodded in acknowledgement of the Trill engineer, saying, Petty Officer, I'd like a report as quickly as you can compile it on the status of the Jupiter Star's systems that we can forward to Starfleet. The commodore then listened to the tactical officer's report. If we get through to the Talorian government, I will definitely be asking whether they've had a resurgence of this religious faction recently.Sometime Later ....[Approaching Talorian Space] Once everyone was safely on board the Mac and with the recovery process complete, it wasn't long before the mighty sovereign class starship got underway, following the warp trail that they would be able to identify as being of Talorian design. Dropping out of warp at the edge of the system, the crew would be on high alert as they attempted to pinpoint and find the ship responsible for the atrocities on the Jupiter Star. [ LT (JG) Joshua Niles - Jupiter Star -> Bridge, USS Mac ]At the order from the Commodore to raise shields again, Niles ensured the defences were up as per the Yellow Alert protocols. However, he also made a point to increase sensor sweeps. Of course passive scans were always operating the same way as ever, but active scanning was indeed increased and he made sure that the power levels were also turned up. In fact, they were at the same power levels as they normally would be when entering Red Alert, and the Tactical Officer also made certain that the same setting he had used earlier, the one his instructors, and he himself, referred to as 'boiling paint off the hull' ready at the press of a button. However, once the pursuit was set, once they were heading for the Talorians' home system, the young Lieutenant found himself somewhat chomping at the bit; what had happened to the crew of the Jupiter Star was not sitting right with him and he felt a dire need to get a hold of whoever was responsible. However, his eyes kept darting at his weapons status board. Torpedo tubes were loaded, but the launch systems were not activated. Phasers were not charged, but all precursor steps to make them ready to go into action had been taken. And he was aggressively scanning everything in range within the system, seeking out a ship with the silhouette of the one that had gone after the Star, as well as closely analyzing everything else that was coming through, seeking out the raider's actual signature so they might single it out of all the traffic in the system. And, so positioned, he waited. For orders. For a sign. For whatever would come first that would bring this to a close.

[Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Bridge]Having deciphered more scripture, Doug now sat in the Counselor's chair, a comfortable perch that really wasn't his to take, but which he took nonetheless. Being rather indifferent to consequences had its advantages, as Sir Doug had learned over the centuries. "Quick warning. If these are religious fundamentalists like we think they are, they might be the type to keep fighting even with both arms cut off - metaphorically speaking, that is," Sir Doug pointed out. "Just something to keep in mind."Not all fundies were on the high road to martyrdom, and not all who would fight to the death were of the religious variety, but enough were that Sir Doug thought it worth a warning. Earth alone had produced many who'd fight to the death, such as the Black Knight of Arthurian legend[fn] This Arthurian legend, to be precise.[/fn], and it was far from the only world to have done so.

[LCDR Matthew Harmon - Sickbay] Harmon ignored them nurses warning to be gentle with her patient and shot her a slight disapproving glare. He was being gentle, the same of which could not be said of Tyler’s grip on Charlie from the looks of things. Fortunately, however, Harmon did manage to get her to let go of Charlie who agreed to stay. Much to Harmon’s relief, Charlie didn’t cause any problems and seemed to be a helpful presence, at least for now. “I know this is hard,” he said softly, “But can you tell me what happened exactly when they can aboard? How did they come aboard? What did they look like? What weapons did they use?” He asked slowly. “You can take your time,” he offered. Tag: Charlie Fox, soft tag Thea Baker

After that, the rest of the journey was quietly waiting and thinking about Sir Doug's theory of what the poor crew's organs had been used for. She found herself particularly conscious of her lungs. She counted her breaths. In. Out. In. Out. Main Engineering fed to the bridge terminal its steady stream of logs and status. Here she was, in the middle of the action, though, with no one to talk to. The bridge was no place for wild speculation, which was the best kind of speculation.

Part of him was listening to what Sir Doug had to say. What the man was doing on the Bridge was beyond the young Lieutenant, but Niles had bigger things to worry about. So long as the El-Aurian stayed out of the way should things get lively, then he had no reason to have issues with him being there... assuming he had the right clearances and authorizations. But if he could have entered the command deck to begin with and he hadn't been ejected by the Commodore, then, well, it wasn't his place to remove him... yet. But, he did notice what he had to say about the Talorians. Not that he cared much about ancient legends, but that part about religious fundamentalists. Historically, those types indeed had this nasty tendency to fight to the very last. And knowing just what sort of savages they were, that made them extremely dangerous, even if, by all accounts, the Mac was more than a match for their own vessel. But, this being the Talorian home system, it was entirely possible they might have friends around, which could make things interesting. In the 'ancient Chinese curse' meaning of the word. And there was Petty Officer Som, absorbed in the Engineering console, though, to his eyes, not looking the most comfortable on the Bridge. Though, frankly, he couldn't really fault her for that; this was, after all, not quite the most common environment in which one would find non-commissioned engineers. And just then, his console beeped at him and he brought up the alarm that had drawn his attention, and his eyes hardened just as his face became set in a cold, hard mask. There was a ship that matched what they knew about the raider that had attacked the Star. Power readings, warp signature, propulsion emissions... and according to active scans, the shape too. He had her. "Sir, I have a positive ID on the Talorian ship that attacked the Jupiter Star. Bearing 209 mark 002, in orbit near a moon of the seventh planet, range fourteen million kilometers."They were a good ten million or so clicks out of torpedo range, but still close enough to start getting a lock on them... should the order come. "Recommend going to Red Alert and locking weapons before laying an intercept course."
