[ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ][...] And, between Commander Harmon's and Lieutenant Quinn's arrivals, he now had a full quorum to work with, between an intelligence expert who presumably had some counter-intelligence expertise to share and a character reference for Vasser. "Mister K'Dex, thank you for reminding me. Transport inhibitors would be a good thing to have active ship-wide, under control from the transporter rooms should we need to do any site-to-site transports during the exercises. Running commbadges through the nearest wall panels is a quick enough fix to internal communications and I can implement it right now. The rest, it should be left to Lieutenant Andrews." [Lt. jg. Aravis - Bridge] Aravis nodded her acknowledgement and thanks to Mabel for answering her questions while she continued to listen to the others' ideas. The young Ba'ku couldn't think of anything else to contribute at the moment, so it was better to listen and learn from everyone else. She was also mentally executing the flying and evasive maneuvers that she'd developed. Commander, she said suddenly, standing, with your permission, I'd like to head to the holodeck to run a couple of quick simulations. I can forward the data to you as I go through the maneuvers. [1st Lt. Robyn Banks - Operations - Bridge, NSS Soteria --> Airlock, Sigma-4] Yes, ma'am, Robyn said, jumping up. She raced to her quarters and replicated a standard Starfleet uniform. Crewmen didn't wear a rank insignia, so she just needed a combadge. Soon the infiltrator was dressed in gold and pinning a dummy badge to her chest. Robyn felt a bit odd being back in the old uniform, but it was for a good purpose. She grabbed a small sling bag and threw in her Alliance communcator, a few strips of gold-pressed latinum and a couple of small round objects with feet that looked something like children's toys. There were a couple of funny looks at the uniform as she left the Soteria. Robyn just grinned and shrugged as she left the ship and made a circuitous route through the station to the airlock where the Mac was docked. She paused out of sight and took a couple of deep breaths before casually approaching the doors. [...] After he'd finished the assessment, he sent it to the Commander. Then, as he spoke, he pulled up 3 of the 4 files he'd looked at, pulled the relevant information that he'd tied together, and sent a rough explanation of his concept for the workerbee mutations to the Ensign. "Commander, possible task list for Engineering awaiting approval. Ensign Mabel, sent you a very rough project possibility. Lieutenant Aravis, if Commander approves, I'll have Engineering forward you a holodeck file with what they might plan for damage simulation." [LCDR Matthew Harmon - Bridge, USS Mac][...] Quinn soon arrived and Harmon turned his attention to the new Chief Science Officer. "Colonel Vasser," he stated simply. "Tell me about her," he left the question open and broad trusting that Quinn could answer best that way. [...] Dismissing her team, Thea then tapped her comm badge. =/\= Sickbay to Commander Eastman, permission to turn Cargo Bay 3 into a temporary triage centre for the purpose of the exercise =/\= [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Bridge, USS Mac]"Approved. Make sure to warn security that watching out for unusual species will not be nearly enough. The Nyberrites have plenty of Federation citizens in their ranks," Judy directed Harmon and Niles. "And for all official and unofficial purposes, our internal security activities are not part of the exercise."Normally, both Josh Niles' budding aggression and Matt Harmon's general essence were areas for growth, but right now, the two of them as they were were just fine. Mabel, meanwhile, had her findings. "The simulation can account for cutting actions by the workbees. It's part of the maintenance subroutines that are baked in," she reported. "Good. Mabel, go with Miss Aravis to run those simulations. Just don't take too long down there," Judy replied. The exercises would be starting pretty soon, after all. Judy walked over to her chair again, to look at the list on the console. It all looked acceptable to her. "Let's go with that, Mr. K'Dex. Good work," she approved, before finally getting to Quinn. "Before we get to that, Mr. Quinn, congratulations on the promotion," she detoured briefly, polite as ever. "Now, tell us about Vasser."Just then, Judy's commbadge went off. =A= "I think Cargo Bay 3 is perfect. Go for it," =A= she answered Thea, warm but succinct. [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] As a scientist, Quinn was trained to be observant of his surroundings. And apart from a missing subordinate who was supposed to be on duty, it seemed the Bridge was quite abuzz in preparation for this simulation. The helmsman, Lt. Avaris, was coordinating with the Caitian engineer, K'Dex, about a training program. Lt. Niles seemed to be in the midst of enacting security protocols aboard the ship. Quinn's mind didn't get very far in analyzing all these observations before he found himself in the middle of an interrogation. It was almost as if Lt. Commander Harmon had come out of nowhere, but his intention was very clear. He wanted to know about Vasser. It made sense that someone would eventually approach him. He had served under Vasser during his time aboard the USS Ganymede. It was in his file and hardly a secret, just a matter of whether anyone took the time to look. Quinn didn't have the chance to offer a response as Commander Eastman approached. She congratulated him on his promotion, postponing the impromptu for only a moment, before giving her blessing for it to proceed. After a brief comm from Thea asking to convert Cargo Bay 3 to a triage, it seemed that all eyes were now on Quinn. "I'm not entirely certain what you want me to say," Isaiah stated. "I can tell you that she's charismatic. She pays attention to her crew... small details. She finds potential in everyone. Anyone that was defined as a misfit was simply underutilized. I mention that, because it does inspire loyalty. Vasser's tenacious. She's not going to just roll over, and the crew serving under her going to follow to the very end." He paused a moment, gauging the sound of his own words. "She's in her element on the bridge of a ship," Isaiah stated. "Had her first command as a battlefield promotion, and it stuck. She is tactician. I never served with her during the war, but I have been in a few skirmishes under her command. She conducts a battle like a symphony. There's never a single strategy at play. Always more than one, and in coordination. This isn't going to be a walk in the park. Though, it doesn't sound as if you're taking her lightly. That's good. Because she's resourceful. Whatever's aboard her ship... whatever is on the battleground, it's a potential weapon."The scientist took a deep breath as he paused to see if there was anything that he'd forgotten to mention. "Rumor was she'd turn quite a few heads at Starfleet Command. Was probably in line for some major posting," Quinn shrugged. "I'm not sure exactly what happened, but her resignation followed. She never badmouthed the fleet. Simply said that she could best serve the Federation somewhere else. Those were hast words to the crew. Next thing I know, this is where she landed."

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, NSS Soteria] Vasser watched as Lt. Banks took her leave from the Bridge. Another officer promptly slipped into her station. Colonel Vasser moved back towards her seat. She was never one to second-guess her commands, at least not in the moment. That could always lead to more mistakes. She would simply have to see how this one panned out and adjust accordingly. Vasser reached over and activated her comm. "Vasser to Mauroos. Has the parliament assembled?"=0= "Mauroos here. Affirmative, Colonel." =0= came the reply. Vasser nodded at the report. "Excellent. Continue to standby. We'll begin shortly. Vasser out." Vasser then turned towards the science station. "Commence full battery of sensor sweeps beginning now. Communications, have all personnel restrict comm use, and only use secure channels 4 through 6. Alternate frequencies on schedule B." Leaning back into her chair, Vasser's eyes looked upon the chronometer. "And someone let me know the moment Banks returns."

[ James Aubrey - Docking Ring, Starbase Sigma 4] Admittedly, James wasn't even sure how to begin. He had never been trained for this sort of task; he couldn't help but wonder why the Lieutenant Commander had chosen him at all. Still, it looked like he must have been one of the last of the Mac to enter the base - he stood alone in the docking ring. Alone, except for .... "Ah, eh - Hello," he responded to the stranger who had approached him. James was mostly immediately turned off from this stranger - perhaps the young Ensign simply didn't care for the prominence of his jowls - but he still forced a polite smile. Dixon seemed the imagined sneaky type - James imagined that this stranger must get along swimmingly with the Ferengi. "I'm ... " The idea to lie about his identity came to him, but James decided it was unnecessary. "Ensign James Aubrey. From the, uh - from the Mac, obviously." Another forced smile. [NPC - Nick Dixon - Docking Ring, Starbase Sigma 4]This was interesting, perhaps unsurprising - a Fleeter in plainclothes. Nick wondered if this was this young man's own decision, or a suggestion from above for whatever reason. Perhaps the little fella was worried about appearances, which would speak to a measure of timidness, or perhaps his superiors worried about embarrassment. Either way, the shuttle salesman was intrigued. "Allow me to welcome you to Sigma 4, Ensign Aubrey," Dixon said succinctly. "Is there anything I can do for you?"

[ Lt. jg. Aravis - Bridge --> Holodeck 1] Thanks, Ensign, Aravis said quietly to the Caitain engineer with a smile. That will be helpful.
Let's go, she added to Commander Eastman's aide as she headed for the turbolift. It was so weird to be higher rank than people she still considered her peers. We'll be quick, Ma'am.As she and Mabel entered the 'lift, Aravis grinned excitedly at the other woman. I can't wait to try this out. It's going to be so much fun to put the Mac through her paces. In a couple minutes, the pair was outside the holodeck and Aravis was skimming through the computer's program options. Since shipboard holodecks were often used for training, it wasn't difficult to pull up one that focused on piloting. She pulled it up and entered the battle bridge of the Mac, heading right for the helm. I'm going to do a couple of run-throughs of my maneuvers for practice. As soon as engineering sends through those damage sims, will you upload them without telling me? I'd like to test the moves against surprise. [NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Bridge -> Holodeck 1]Mabel followed Aravis dutifully, aware of the fact that her role here was to support and enable, but also to observe and learn for herself. She was, after all, slated to someday rise to a command position of her own. "Yeah," she echoed the enthusiastic sentiment in the turbolift, all the while keeping quiet her private reservations about their partners in this diplomatic dance. She settled down in the holographic command chair, crossed her legs, and clasped both hands over one knee, a conscious affectation of her boss's sometime posture. "I'll be sneaky about it," she promised, as she prepared to watch.

[Bridge, USS Mac] K'Dex could feel concepts and idea's coming together, and knew it was about to have half a dozen tasks that he wasn't going to be able to do. He opened a secured line to the Commanders arm station from his console, and starting sharing an outline of tasks that he'd need personnel assigned to, seeking approval before forwarding to Engineering. After he wrote it, he wondered if he'd missed anything. Either way, he needed to reorder tasks in what he figured would be either most important, or easiest to accomplish. Simulation Preperations
- Prepare with Science enough probes for full navigational overlap utilizing narrow-beam transmissions.
- Implement jamming frequencies for transporter main bands, set ships transporters to utilize custom bands.
- Verify with Tactical, all comm signals rerouted through nearest consoles, allow for extended bandwidth.
- Prepare excessive damage simulation, including false leak. Prepare holodeck file for intended simulations immediately and send to Lt. Aravis in regards to helm control. Place actual simulation on standby. False leak may utilize custom compound, nondangerous.
- Implement Ens Mabel's possibility assessment for workerbee/probe combat utilization if feasible.
K'Dex had stopped short for a moment after the transporter jamming tasks. Transporters were his focus of study at the Academy, and it brought one of his senior projects to mind. He wondered if it was applicable in this situation. It should be... Was it worth it? He glanced across the bridge as his mind considered, then locked eyes on the Ensign assigned to his chopperbee concept. He had other things to do. Maybe he'd bring up the idea at another time. While his ability to focus on multiple things and their priority was a key point for his damage control abilities, it had a habit of allowing random thoughts to cross in until he mentally assigned it as a non-priority. After he'd finished the assessment, he sent it to the Commander. Lieutenant Aravis, if Commander approves, I'll have Engineering forward you a holodeck file with what they might plan for damage simulation." [LCDR Matthew Harmon - Bridge, USS Mac]"Niles makes a good point," Harmon stated. "And he's right. We're using this little event as a way to gather real intelligence, I see no reason why Vasser wouldn't do the same. We should treat any infiltration attempt as a genuine security threat, not simply another aspect of the game." He wasn't a fan of the impulsive young officer, however in this case he was absolutely correct and his suggestions were prudent. "Arm security and have them patrol in pairs, randomly checking ID of those on board. Station guards at sensitive points and block access to all but the most basic of functions of the computer on all unsecure terminals in areas where we have no guards," he added. "Anyone slightly suspicious should be reported to the Security Chief and investigated thoroughly, no accepting simple excuses even if they sound reasonable." Quinn soon arrived and Harmon turned his attention to the new Chief Science Officer. "Colonel Vasser," he stated simply. "Tell me about her," he left the question open and broad trusting that Quinn could answer best that way. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Bridge, USS Mac]"Approved. She never badmouthed the fleet. Simply said that she could best serve the Federation somewhere else. Those were hast words to the crew. Next thing I know, this is where she landed." [ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ]Niles wasn't sure if he would be supported by the dour Intelligence officer. From the scuttlebutt he had heard, there was precisely one junior officer he listened to on a regular basis, and anything else that didn't come from him was something he was wont to just dismiss right off the bat. So to have him support him entirely in setting up a tighter security and counter-intelligence effort was a genuine surprise. And while he was reasonably certain that Commander Eastman would approve of his notions without too much argument or snapping of the leash, it would seem that Commander Harmon's additions had fully closed that particular deal. "Aye, Ma'am," he reported as he started securing the ship's communications infrastructure, and implementing ship-wide restrictions on access to terminals. That much he could do in moments using various pre-sets that were available to him. However, before he called down to Security itself, he listened to what Mister Quinn had to say. From what he was saying, Vasser was a brilliant tactician... and he knew that while he had a lot of interesting notions to bring forward he still had much to learn. And she would be wringing every ounce of potential her crew could provide. That, and she would have plenty of dirty tricks to hand out, and without the ethical or political constraints the Mac and her command team had to worry about. So yes, it would be a tough fight, and with them having to not show their full capabilities or fight an all-out drag-down engagement with all of the dirty tricks and tactics that would be involved when fighting with full intent. Someone might even call that kind of situation hopeless... But facing that much competence, there was always a possibility of using that to their advantage. "In this case, then perhaps it might be a good idea to let them know they're not up against hardened veterans in our command team. Fighting isn't done by ships, it's done by people... and if we can lure them into a sense of overconfidence, we might be able to secure an edge."That was what Niles had to add to the Tactical situation, before he opened a channel to Security. =A= "Bridge to Lieutenant Andrews. We are going to a heightened security state, and weapons are to be issued. Guards are to be posted at all sensitive areas, and patrols and internal scans are to be increased, and all personnel is to be positively identified. Consider the risk of infiltration to be high. And, this is not part of the exercise. I say again, heightened security posture is not a drill and any security threat is to be considered real. Bridge out."=A=

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - COS's Office - Deck 9] After completing another successful training scenario in the holodeck, in preparation for the upcoming joint exercise with the NA. Laurel had returned to her office so she could devise a new shift rotation for the duration of the war games and take into consideration who would be on leave and who would be staying on the ship. It may only be training but that didn't mean that Laurel wouldn't take it seriously as she wanted her department to be on top of their proverbial game and she wouldn't settle for failure. If mistakes did happen, then they would be reminded that lessons would be learned and to strive for better. The COS was almost done when the call came through from Niles on the Bridge, listening intently at what would be required and the reasoning behind it. It seemed as though there was just cause for the need for heightened security and the potential threat to the ship and Laurel wasn't going to treat it any differently as this is what they were trained for. =/\= Andrews to Bridge, acknowledged, I'll have my teams in place immediately, Andrews out =/\= Call answered and with the channel now closed, Laurel got up out of her chair and called her teams, diverting several to all sensitive and keys areas such as Engineering, Sickbay, Computer Core, Transporter Rooms and Shuttlebay's to name a few. Then she directed the usual patrols so all decks were covered with an explanation of what was needed of them and why. With orders given, Laurel then went to the armoury, took out a type II and a Type III, before going to join one of the patrols.

[ PO2 Kaya Som | Kirby's, Plaza, Sigma 4 ]Kaya had always been blunt and while she didn't mean to start shit (most of the time) sometimes it was a natural consequence. Neema tried to explain, S'Riia tried to keep peace, and Bav wasted no words in stirring the pot. "Damn, Bav, don't hold back now," Kaya said with a lopsided grin. Then she turned to Neema. "I'm just saying what goes on up there doesn't always reflect what goes on down here. Everyone's smiling on the Mac but, uh, Alliance doesn't have many fans aboard." She shrugged and smiled. "I, for one, am happy for the break." The server returned with a tray. Something bright red for Neema, a tall glass of ice-blue ale for Bav, a golden lager of some kind for S'Riia, and something short and brown for Kaya. In a large bowl, to qualify for crunchy/spicy were what looked to be cayanne-red insect husks roasted to perfection (or replicated to look that way). Kaya lifted her glass in short toast. "To neighbors, then." [NPC - 2nd Lieutenant Neema - Docking Port, Plaza Level, Starbase Sigma 4] Neema was hardly prepared for the lashing she received from Bav in the form of an impromptu reality check. She knew that people had an unfavorable view of the Alliance, but even she hadn't expected the Andorian to be so vocal about it. She started to speak, but wasn't really sure how to rebut. The last thing she wanted to do was engage a guest to the station with an actual argument. It was then that Kaya Som spoke, winning the attention of the young blonde. The Trill didn't dispute Bav's words, but she did offer Neema a hint of hope that not everyone held the same dim view of the Alliance. Her spirits were lifted about the same time as the server returned with the drinks. Neema eagerly took hold of her glass. It's mere presence caused the cloud that had hung over her to recede almost immediately. She brought the straw to her lips and quickly began to sip, closing her eyes as she savored every drop. When she finally opened her eyes, her mouth still picking apart the colored flavor, Neema realized the food that had been brought. "Oh my, these are my favorite! You will absolutely adore them!" Neema said. It took a great deal of restraint not to just take hold of several of the crunchy treats. Her eyes surveyed each of them, before returning to Bav. "Are you happy? You seem grumpy? People typically feel grumpy if they feel... unappreciated and over-looked."She then looked towards Kaya. "People would benefit greatly from listening to your point of view," she said. "Would that make you happier?" Neema waved off the moment. "I mean... these will make you happy. Try one!" she gestured towards the red-hued ambrosia. Neema's head then turned towards S'Riia. Her brow furrowed. She didn't say anything, but after staring at S'Riia a few moments, began to avert her eyes back to the entire table, attempting to avoid the Caitians' eyes.
[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Docking Port, Starbase Sigma 4] That bastard! He knew the damned protocols. Why he chose to act like an ass, S'Riia had yet to figure out. Were all intelligence officers such jerks? Her mind briefly flashed back to one of her recurring dreams. The Caitian was thankful for her fur, lest her blushing would have been obvious. Her eyes noticed Neema staring at her. Though, when S'Riia turned her eyes on to her, she seemed to do a bang up job of avoiding S'Riia. The security officer waved off Neema's odd behavior. She took the large lager into her hand and sipped at it. She exhaled and nodded approvingly. With one hand still on the mug, she finally glared back towards Bav. "You're a real piece of work, Bav," S'Riia commented. "You know, it wise not to antagonize your hostess. Makes it all too easy for them to walk you right out of an airlock." [PO2 Bav Th'cherreq - Starbase Sigma]Kaya seemed amused by Bav's statement. He wasn't too sure why, did she agree, did she like the drama, was it just funny? "Who's to say I wanted to antagonise my hostess?" Bav snapped at S'Riia before taking a drink.
Neema's question and phrasing was...odd, unsettling either. Is she trying some hypnotic mumbo jumbo on me? Still, she was onto something. "Starfleet is not the best workplace," he said flippantly. "Bad pay, bad hours, bad work. No, I wouldn't say I'm happy. But it's fine, not the worst. It pays the bills," he remarked.

[NPC - Nick Dixon - Docking Ring, Starbase Sigma 4]Nick wasn't particularly surprised. Outside of Starfleet's reach, it made sense that an Ensign would be looking to unwind. It was stupid, but that was a trait that many young people had; certainly now that Starfleet was desperate for butts to fill seats, Ensigns came in stupid. "I know exactly what you mean," he said. "The sports bar, Kirby's, sells all the booze you can take if you want a fix. It's a Ferengi business, but the Nyberrites generally enforce their truth in advertising laws, so what you get is usually not too far from what you pay for."Nick admired the ruthless salesmanship of the Ferengi as at large, even as he disapproved of their poor presence. A person, just like a product, was a brand, and the Ferengi had a toxic brand as a species. "If you want entertainment, the Holo-dome here is very sophisticated and very permissive. You want an ancient castle, or ten Orion broads, you got 'em," the man added, again as an active judge of just about everything.

Tag James Aubrey [ James Aubrey - Docking Ring, Starbase Sigma 4] James had to work hard not to smile wide. How perfect! The holo-dome was one of the only real, tangible locations Harmon had given young Aubrey, and this stranger was perfectly willing to give him an escort. Hopefully James's being accompanied by someone from the station would keep the prying eyes away. But he had to stay cool, lest he draw too much attention to his true motives and scare Dixon away. "Totally," he responded, way cool-like. He made a show of thinking for a moment. "Ahh, well - y'know, just for me, I think that the bar sounds a little more crowded than I'm looking for. [NPC - 2nd Lieutenant Neema - Docking Port, Plaza Level, Starbase Sigma 4] [...] When she finally opened her eyes, her mouth still picking apart the colored flavor, Neema realized the food that had been brought. Try one!" she gestured towards the red-hued ambrosia.[...]
[NPC - PO1 S'Riia- Docking Port, Starbase Sigma 4] [...] The security officer waved off Neema's odd behavior. She took the large lager into her hand and sipped at it. She exhaled and nodded approvingly. With one hand still on the mug, she finally glared back towards Bav. "You're a real piece of work, Bav," S'Riia commented. "You know, it wise not to antagonize your hostess. Makes it all too easy for them to walk you right out of an airlock."[ PO2 Bav Th'cherreq - Starbase Sigma ] [..] Neema's question and phrasing was...odd, unsettling either. Neema's earnest validation was a little too on-target and enthusiastic. Kaya had been so salty this morning that it was only just now occuring to her that this hospitality had more to do with keeping an eye on everyone than making friends. Well, Neema could keep her eyes on Kaya all she wanted; Kaya was here for the food. "I am right most of the time," Kaya agreed dryly. Kaya held one of the crunchy bugs appreciating the lightness and translucence before popping one in her mouth. Spicy, tangy, savory - it worked well with the heavily boozed green drink in her hand. "Unhinged humans..." Kaya added onto the tail end of Bav's litany of grievances. "Granted," she continued crunching on the bugs and taking another drink. "Bav wouldn't be happy even if he was Mayor of the Galaxy if it meant he had to be awake before 0900. Me, I'm a simple Trill." Crunch crunch crunch. "Shiny ship, good music, and two vek'tema seconds without some larval Terran male with a god-complex dragging us into a fire-fight and I've got no complaints," Kaya smiled quickly enjoying the rest of her drink and raising a hand for another.

Tag Ozu Saya [ Lt. jg. Aravis - Holodeck 1] The helm controls on the battle bridge were identical to those on the main bridge, but Aravis was still glad to be getting a little practice in the different environment before the games started. It just felt different, added an element of unfamiliarity. Aravis flew the simulated ship through a few basic evasive maneuvers, then did a barrel roll followed by some zig-zags, both horizontally and vertically, relatively. Computer, add a ship matching the specifications we have for the NSS Soteria and set it to fly a random series of evasive maneuvers.A moment later, a ship appeared on the viewscreen and began maneuvering around them.

[ 1st Lt. Robyn Banks - USS Mac] Robyn went to a Jeffries tube hatch and crawled inside, pulling the panel back over the opening behind her. She climbed up a couple of levels and left the other wind-up toy in a random junction before beginning the climb back up to the airlock. She figured it was best to not be out in the open more than absolutely necessary. Pausing for a moment, Robyn pulled her communicator from her bag and called her ship. =0= Banks to Soteria, mission accomplished. I'm on my way back. =0= Robyn didn't wait for a reply, but continued through the crawlspace until she was as close as she could get to the airlock and still be out of sight.

"Tell me, Ensign Aubrey, if you're allowed to: what restrictions did Commander Eastman put on your shore leave?" he asked, hoping to initiate a dialogue that could yield some useful information. Of course, if he were to receive some, he could well return that favor.

[ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ][...] So yes, it would be a tough fight, and with them having to not show their full capabilities or fight an all-out drag-down engagement with all of the dirty tricks and tactics that would be involved when fighting with full intent. Bridge out."=A=
[PO2 Bav Th'cherreq - Starbase Sigma]Kaya seemed amused by Bav's statement.
I'm on my way back. =0= Robyn didn't wait for a reply, but continued through the crawlspace until she was as close as she could get to the airlock and still be out of sight. [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Admittedly, Quinn wasn't sure how well received his report had been. It sounded more like singing praises of Vasser than anything else. He only hoped that his honest appraisal didn't lead to him being escorted from the Bridge. Somehow, it seemed like more of a possibility with the Intelligence Officer, Lt. Commander Harmon, being present. Not many people became privy to exactly what they were up to in that little office of his. And with the Alliance's recruitment being such a touchy situation, it wasn't a far fetched idea if they suspected espionage to be in play. He listened as Niles thought of suggesting that they advertise that they had a relatively junior crew at the ready. The Chief Science Officer shook his head slightly. Not at the suggestion, but at its intention. "It's a viable option, but I'm not sure she'll take the bait."

[NPC - 2nd Lieutenant Neema - Docking Port, Plaza Level, Starbase Sigma 4] Neema's eyes widened slightly as Bav went on about how unhappy he was. Her brow furrowed slightly confused. "But if you are this unhappy... why do you persist? she asked honestly. And still there was something more to be said about his words. "I thought... poverty was no longer an issue for the Federation. Especially, on one of the founding worlds."Her attention was then drawn to Kaya, who pointed that she was right most of the time. Neema nodded. "I know," she added quickly. "I mean... you seem the type," she amended. She went on to listen, even as she pointed out that Bav was typically what humans referred to as a 'Debbie Downer.' That he was always in this sort of mood. Neema didn't seem inclined to disagree. But likely because of something even more volatile welling up behind the young Trill's words. "Your lives were endangered?" she stated, though it seemed like more of a question than a comment. "You're agitated at... this human, or the situation?"Neema's eyes then moved towards S'Riia whom had fallen rather quiet. It almost seemed as if she were daydreaming. "Will your mate be joining us?"
[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Docking Port, Starbase Sigma 4] S'Riia rolled her eyes as Bav continued with his rants about Starfleet. If he was this unhappy, he could certainly resign. It wasn't like anyone was holding a phaser to his head and keeping him aboard the Mac. Because if anyone were holding a phaser to his head, they likely would have pulled the trigger by now. S'Riia didn't offer much of an interruption as Kaya spoke. Perhaps it was the first opportunity she'd gotten to just clear the air and get it out of her system. Instead, S'Riia pulled the mug towards her and began to drink. She couldn't help it that her mind wondered towards him once more. His dark hair. His deep voice. She could only imagine if his arms were as warm as she'd dreamed. And then, she heard Neema's question about her mate. The beer sprayed from S'Riia's lips, before she could help it. Her eyes were wide and her head already shaking and denying what had been spoken. "Mate?! I don't have a mate. There is no mate! What are you--? I mean... why would you?" How had Neema even come to such a question. S'Riia began to wonder was her infatuation that obvious? Had she been blushing? Was it bright enough to be seen through her fur?

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, NSS Soteria] As Vasser sat, reviewing the reports that were being hustled in her direction, her comms officer spoke up, revealing that they'd heard from Banks, but there seemed to be some interference. Vasser leaned on the edge of her seat. "Is the Mac actively jamming our communications?" she asked. She doubted that they'd take such an approach this early. The only report she got back was inconclusive, but in the comm officer's opinion, it didn't appear so. Vasser nodded. "Continue to monitor the situation. They could simply be stretching their legs. It won't be long before we begin.
[NPC - Captain Rez Jogann - Upper Levels Plaza, Starbase Sigma 4] Jogann stared at the screen, his rocky brow furrowed at the sight of the video that was playing out on the padd. "Who's the kid?" he asked the young officer that had brought him the feed. "And you say he was approached as soon as came aboard?" He was hardly pleased with the report he had received. "Make this a priority. Confirm their location. And if you can, figure out what the hell this kid is doing with a shady type like Dixon. If Jogann knew anything, it was likely nothing good.

[Lt Laurel Andrews - Airlock]
Having dispersed her teams throughout the ship as per the orders from the Bridge, Laurel was currently patrolling the area near the airlock with Miguel and T'Sana two of her NCO's. Although that hadn't prevented the Security Chief from checking in regularly with those on different decks and key areas, wanting to maintain close contact and checking in with one another, not that she expected any trouble. Then again life on the Mac had taught her that not everything was clear cut so it was always best to be prepared. With departure likely imminent, Laurel had wanted to start with this particular deck, in order to ensure that any last minute stragglers had left on time and to secure the area, ready for the exercise.
So far everything appeared to be normal as the trio walked along the corridor, weapons visible especially the Type III which showed just how seriously this was being taken. However Laurel did feel sorry for one particular enlisted Crewman when he almost ran into her on his way to the airlock. " I'm sorr ...y, Lieutenant .. I know I should of gone over by now, I promise I won't do it again" he practically stuttered before regaining his composure and left the ship.
Laurel didn't know whether to laugh or not but figured the lesson had been learned, even if she had scared the younger officer, before she resumed the patrol.

Just, I don't know, having control of this massive ship under my fingers, she said. And trick flying, which is really all evasive maneuvers are, are a lot of fun. I want to be just a little trickier than they would expect - throw in some moves that would generally be considered too fancy for fighting. But I think they can work - I have made some of them work, small-scale, and a Sovereign-class is really maneuverable. She'd turned back to face the viewer as she spoke, reacting to the random movements of the holographic ship, putting together series of maneuvers that she thought might work.

She sat carefully and silently, hoping they'd leave before the exercises started so she could slip back off the ship. While she waited, though, Robyn started planning alternatives. It would never do if she were to end up trapped here.

20 minutes later
[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Battle Bridge, USS Mac]
After finishing up preparations, the Mac and the Soteria had each moved a ways away from the station, to their designated opening positions for the exercise. There was something almost evocative of a duel in the way these things started: walk ten paces, turn around, fire. So neat and orderly, and so unlike the real thing. Mentally and physically, Judy tried to evoke something of the way she'd carried on during actual combat: she put her glasses on a chain to avoid unfortunate incidents, and had not brought food along to the battle bridge. She did bring all her ergonomic cushions along, of course - she firmly believed that a miserable officer made for a stupid officer.
"All right, folks. Shields up, red alert, and strap into your seats," she ordered the bridge crew, including the ever dutiful Mabel.
=A= "All hands, this is Commander Eastman. Remember that this is only an exercise, so you shouldn't risk your actual well-being. That being said, let's win this thing," =A= she announced.
