[ James Aubrey - Docking Ring -> Holodome, Starbase Sigma 4] James walked along with Nick, feeling quite surprised at how easy this whole espionage thing seemed to be. Perhaps he had chosen the wrong career path? Then all at once Nick's question - simple as it was - sent the young ensign into something of a mental tailspin. He cleared his throat and smiled awkwardly, his gaze shifting around the hall like he was looking for some kind of saving grace. The question was so simple, but - was it truly so straightforward? What could he tell people, if anything? Surely this sort of question wouldn't jeopardize important information? "Heh," he finally began to respond, "the basic stuff, I suppose... Not to be too disruptive or impolite. Not to make a scene and embarrass the reputation of the ship." He smirked and shrugged his shoulders. "Y'know how it goes."

[1st Lt. Robyn Banks - USS Mac, Jeffrie's Tubes] Robyn paused and listened from inside the Jeffrie's tube as she realized that there were several people in the corridor. She sat carefully and silently, hoping they'd leave before the exercises started so she could slip back off the ship. While she waited, though, Robyn started planning alternatives. It would never do if she were to end up trapped here. 20 minutes later[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Battle Bridge, USS Mac]After finishing up preparations, the Mac and the Soteria had each moved a ways away from the station, to their designated opening positions for the exercise. There was something almost evocative of a duel in the way these things started: walk ten paces, turn around, fire. So neat and orderly, and so unlike the real thing. Mentally and physically, Judy tried to evoke something of the way she'd carried on during actual combat: she put her glasses on a chain to avoid unfortunate incidents, and had not brought food along to the battle bridge. She did bring all her ergonomic cushions along, of course - she firmly believed that a miserable officer made for a stupid officer. "All right, folks. Shields up, red alert, and strap into your seats," she ordered the bridge crew, including the ever dutiful Mabel. =A= "All hands, this is Commander Eastman. Remember that this is only an exercise, so you shouldn't risk your actual well-being. That being said, let's win this thing," =A= she announced. [NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, NSS Soteria] Vasser's eyes were upon the chronometer. She watched as the final moment ticked into place. The silence from the communications officer was the final confirmation she needed. Helena had hoped that Lieutenant Banks would have reported back in, at this point from the station, but there was nothing. It meant that her officer was stuck aboard the Mac. Vasser knew that Banks was smart enough to keep her head down, and hopefully avoid detection until the end of this exercise. At this point, there was nothing that they could do for Banks, other than keep their attention elsewhere. "All right, troops," said Vasser as she rose from her seat. "I suppose it's time we get underway."Vasser nodded at her comm officer and then prepared to address the entire ship. "Ladies... gentlemen. Know that we have absolutely nothing to prove today. You're the finest crew in the Alliance. We wouldn't have been selected to participate in this exercise otherwise. Remember, we have as much to learn as we do to share. With that said, let's give 'em hell."Vasser gave a nod for the comm officer to end the transmission. Taking a deep breath, Vasser and then addressed her comm officer once more. "Hail the Mac." Vasser paused and then began to speak into the air. =0= "Federation Starship Mac. This is Colonel Helena Vasser, commander of the Nyberrite Starship Soteria. Since I doubt I can expect your unconditional surrender presently, I can do only one thing: bid you happy hunting." =0= As the comm cut out, Vasser turned her attention to her own crew. "Shields up. Battle Ready," she said barking out orders across the bridge. It didn't take long for the crew to fall into step, doing just that. "Vasser to Captain Mauroos. Stand by. Parliament is in session on my mark." She then moved to her seat and turned to face the view screen as she sat down. "Helm. move ahead, one quarter impulse. Science... full eyes and ears. Let's offer the first move to our guests. If necessary, I'm sure we can give them a little motivation."

[NPC - Nick Dixon - Docking Ring -> Holodome, Starbase Sigma 4]"Don't get drunk off your ass, don't make Starfleet look bad, and don't be seen with a Hooker. That goes without saying," Nick rephrased what the Ensign had said to him. Then, as a door came open, they entered the holodome. "What I know is that there's no chance Starfleet isn't using this to look around. The Alliance has been looking around the fleet's laundry hamper on your station for months, so it's really hard to believe that Matt Harmon's not trying to even the score," he added. Mr. Dixon himself had no skin in the game. What he did have was a desire to know.

[Cargo Bay 2, USS Mac] K'Dex was moving between various outfit groups, working on either probes or workerbees. When most of the teams were assigned, he began working on the special relay probe, trying to get the receivers to scan all bands while relaying on a rotating narrow band comm frequency. He also had another engineer offer an idea for a small data cube with some EM avoidance thrusters as a backup form of data transfer. Presumably, after the probe has pulled what it designates enough information, it'd release the data cube, which would float around the enemy ship until it found a hole in the shields that it could travel through, then relay a minor tracking beacon. Honestly, it was a secondary idea that was perfect for field testing in a semi live-fire event. It was small enough that even if it ejected, it would be near impossible to detect unless actively looking for it, and it would only retain data for the duration of the exercise before becoming inert. The set up for that had delayed things a bit, when the announcement from the Commander came through. Looking at the chronometer, he cursed slightly, gave final basic instructions to the rest of the teams, and made his way to the battle bridge. [Battle Bridge, USS Mac] As K'Dex entered the battle bridge, he was impressed to find it in full activity. He nodded to the Commander, and apologized. "Apologies Commander, modifications took a bit, but we should be good to go by the time we need to deploy them." He slid into the engineering station, and began pulling up active status functions, and readied for deployment of the various operations. K'Dex opened a quick message link with the Tactical and Helms Console, to relay any changes from his console automatically. "Engineering Ready." [ Thea - Battle Bridge, 20 Minutes Later] With Cargo Bay 3 successfully transformed into an emergency triage centre for the purpose of the simulation, Thea had gone over the last minute details before making her way to the Battle Bridge, now that the Mac had left Sigma 4. Whilst in theory she should of stayed with her team it made sense for the CMO and second in command to be present until the time came where she would have to oversee the fake injured & other casualties, glad that she had provided suitable supplies for those who would be rendered out of commission until such a time that they could return to normal. The Doctor was also confident that her team would be able to disperse throughout the ship when called upon and a system had been devised depending on the level of injuries such so they were directed to the right place. Now all they had to do was wait and see what the Soteria had in store for them and how the crew would react to it. Reaching her desired destination as Judy made the ship wide announcement and it was time to act accordingly. Upon entering, Thea was aware that this wasn't set up like the normal Bridge and so wouldn't afford them the kind of luxury and comfort that they were used to and there was also the realisation that this was the first time that she had been here. So as K'Dex spoke to Judy, Thea then did the same. " Sickbay and the Emergency Triage Centre are ready, Commander" Thea stated, acknowledging those present as she took a seat at one of the auxiliary consoles. *****************************
[Lt Laurel Andrews - Deck 12, USS Mac]
After securing the airlock following departure, Laurel and her team of two, had moved to a different deck as the Security Chief was keen to rotate the patrols and keep everyone on high alert. As the ship wide announcement was made, Laurel knew that this wasn't the time to get complacent so after checking in with all of her teams, she continued her patrol, paying particular attention to anything out of the ordinary and ensuring that all protocols were in place. If it came to putting the security bulkheads in place then she would as she continued her new patrol route.

If it came to putting the security bulkheads in place then she would as she continued her new patrol route. [ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Battle Bridge, USS Mac ]In a lot of ways, Niles much preferred the Battle Bridge to the command center on Deck 1. It was smaller, not quite as versatile as the primary one, and generally it was being manned by a backup watch at all times, just in case. And its biggest asset was that it was deep within the ship, surrounded by a whole lot more armour and volume to absorb damage than the painfully exposed Deck 1. Of course, this was just an exercise and there would not, or at least should not, be enemy fire penetrating the hull and actual internal explosions and bursting conduits to worry about. But, that did not mean he didn't feel better with this additional protection. He had just settled himself in at the Tactical station when the order to go to Red Alert and raise shields was given. "Aye Ma'am," he acknowledged before the lights dimmed and the klaxon sounded just long enough to get people's attention. Of course, shields would remain at actual full strength for the duration of the simulation, just in case, but that wasn't what his systems would be reporting. Which meant, he had to take a moment to ensure things would be suitably locked down, and he issued a number of commands through his console. "Battle simulation interlocks are engaged. Torpedo feed queues are locked, magazines are sealed, all tubes report clear. Phaser power settings locked to one one-thousandth power. Simulation network is up, telemetry is synced in. Tactical ready for the simulation." After all, it would not do to fire an actual torpedo at someone for even if the warhead was inactive a 200 kilogram torpedo accelerated to just short of the speed of light carried a non-trivial kinetic impact, and a full-power phaser blast was nothing to sneer at on a good day... As the Mac broke away from Sigma 4, and so did Soteria, Niles found himself considering what was before him. He'd done countless battle simulations in training, from turn-based, chess-like maneuvers, to static simulators, to full-fledged holodeck events. But only a handful where actual ships would be in motion, given the sheer amount of resources involved. Of course, the damage would be all simulated and no one would really get hurt, but to exercise an entire crew at the same time rather than just separate elements on their own? That was the sort of thing that tended to be less common. As both ships made for their starting positions, and the kick-off signal was sent, Niles' eyes were glue to his board, and he was seeing... no opening moves. "I don't like this. Soteria is coming in, but they're in no real hurry. Either they suspect an early trap, or they want us to make the first move."

Hell! Well there was no point in staying here. Maybe she could get to a transporter room and beam off before they put the shields up. She silently shifted and then crawled as fast as she dared toward the nearest transporter room. Finding an empty corridor, Robyn emerged and walked casually along it, keeping an eye out for security.

[ Lt. jg. Aravis - USS Mac, Battle Bridge] Aravis was satisfied with the flight simulations she'd run, though she would have been happy to have a lot more time before the 'real' deal. It was not to be, but she at least felt that she had a few surprises up her sleeve for the Soteria. Helm at the ready, Commander, she reported as the docking clamps released them from the station. We're at one-quarter impulse and moving clear of the station. Ready for evasive maneuvers on your command.

[ Avi Moz | Private, Nyberrite Alliance | Docking Ring, Sigma 4 ]When the details of the joint exercises originally came down, that their Starfleet counterpart was none other than Frontier station's satellite the USS Mac, Avi wasn't bothered. She'd be stuck in the bowels of the Soteria with no chance of bumping into familiar faces. Too bad no one told the chief engineer who so enjoyed her greasy crown. "Moz, need you back on the station.""Ramanathi put me here." "Well, I told you to go back to the station. Unless you want the Brick?"It was hard to argue with a poorly-veiled threat of torture. Avi left her tools were she was working and made her way back to the station. Back on the station with the entire journey all to herself from the docking ring to the engineering sections, she lit up one of her worst cigars. She hummed some vulgar song until she came upon Dixon talking to a Starfleeter. She wouldn't have stopped because Dix was a royal pain and Starfleet, ugh. But something caught her long ear. "...Matt Harmon..." She sauntered over and asked her cigar on the floor. "Heyo, buckos," she greeted without explanation. "Who'd you find, Dix?" Judith Eastman (Nick) James Aubrey

Neema's earnest validation was a little too on-target and enthusiastic. Kaya had been so salty this morning that it was only just now occuring to her that this hospitality had more to do with keeping an eye on everyone than making friends. Well, Neema could keep her eyes on Kaya all she wanted; Kaya was here for the food. "I am right most of the time," Kaya agreed dryly. Kaya held one of the crunchy bugs appreciating the lightness and translucence before popping one in her mouth. Spicy, tangy, savory - it worked well with the heavily boozed green drink in her hand. "Unhinged humans..." Kaya added onto the tail end of Bav's litany of grievances. "Granted," she continued crunching on the bugs and taking another drink. "Bav wouldn't be happy even if he was Mayor of the Galaxy if it meant he had to be awake before 0900. Me, I'm a simple Trill." Crunch crunch crunch. "Shiny ship, good music, and two vek'tema seconds without some larval Terran male with a god-complex dragging us into a fire-fight and I've got no complaints," Kaya smiled quickly enjoying the rest of her drink and raising a hand for another.
[NPC - 2nd Lieutenant Neema - Docking Port, Plaza Level, Starbase Sigma 4] Neema's eyes widened slightly as Bav went on about how unhappy he was. Her brow furrowed slightly confused. "But if you are this unhappy... why do you persist? she asked honestly. And still there was something more to be said about his words. "I thought... poverty was no longer an issue for the Federation. Especially, on one of the founding worlds."Her attention was then drawn to Kaya, who pointed that she was right most of the time. Neema nodded. "I know," she added quickly. "I mean... you seem the type," she amended. She went on to listen, even as she pointed out that Bav was typically what humans referred to as a 'Debbie Downer.' That he was always in this sort of mood. Neema didn't seem inclined to disagree. But likely because of something even more volatile welling up behind the young Trill's words. "Your lives were endangered?" she stated, though it seemed like more of a question than a comment. "You're agitated at... this human, or the situation?"Neema's eyes then moved towards S'Riia whom had fallen rather quiet. It almost seemed as if she were daydreaming. "Will your mate be joining us?"
[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Docking Port, Starbase Sigma 4] S'Riia rolled her eyes as Bav continued with his rants about Starfleet. If he was this unhappy, he could certainly resign. It wasn't like anyone was holding a phaser to his head and keeping him aboard the Mac. Because if anyone were holding a phaser to his head, they likely would have pulled the trigger by now. S'Riia didn't offer much of an interruption as Kaya spoke. Perhaps it was the first opportunity she'd gotten to just clear the air and get it out of her system. Instead, S'Riia pulled the mug towards her and began to drink. She couldn't help it that her mind wondered towards him once more. His dark hair. His deep voice. She could only imagine if his arms were as warm as she'd dreamed. And then, she heard Neema's question about her mate. The beer sprayed from S'Riia's lips, before she could help it. Her eyes were wide and her head already shaking and denying what had been spoken. "Mate?! I don't have a mate. There is no mate! What are you--? I mean... why would you?" How had Neema even come to such a question. S'Riia began to wonder was her infatuation that obvious? Had she been blushing? Was it bright enough to be seen through her fur? [PO2 Bav Th'cherreq - Plaza Level]"Don't have anything better to do. Haven't had any other job offers that sound tolerable," he stated, hinting at his openness towards working for the Alliance. Provided the right incentives, of course. Kaya seemed a bit up herself, boasting about being right all the time. Pft. She was an upstart who just happened to have gotten lucky and progressed quickly in her career since arriving on Front Ear. S'Riia then had a very odd reaction to Neema's usage of the word 'mate', leaving Bav baffled but amused. He let out a smirk and a chuckle and shook his head at her.

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Battle Bridge, USS Mac]Judy just smiled at Vasser's bluster, finding it rather predictable. =A= "We'll see how it goes," =A= she said succinctly before the Comm cut out. Then, she looked around to her evidently ready crew. "Let's give them exactly what they want. Lean into the cockiness," she ordered. "I want one phaser blast, nothing sophisticated. The kind of shot a... middling first-year Cadet might take. Everyone else, standby for their return fire."With that, she turned her aging head towards Engineering. "Mr. K'Dex, are there any unexpected operational restrictions with the workbees?" she asked, wanting to know this now. Mabel leaned over from her auxiliary console to Dr. Baker. "We made a model to simulate casualties. I think it'll surprise your crew," she shared proudly, as an aside.
Tag Isaiah Quinn , Thea Baker , K'Dex , Joshua Niles , and Ozu Saya [Battle Bridge, USS Mac] K'Dex frowned slightly at the question. "Honestly, yes. The workerbees weren't designed for fast movement, it's only utilizing small thrusters. The navigational system installed means it can be remotely piloted, but that doesn't mean it can catch up with a star ship. Add in the fact that we have to punch a hole in the shields, and it's a more daunting task than I first imagined. We'd have to get close to eject them, or eject them and wait for their ship to come close enough to be able to catch up. One of the scientists suggested magnetic boosters, but we didn't have time for it. They're designed for working on stationary objects, or to attach to a moving ship before working. At best, we'll get some range on them with the cargo transporter, but it'll be one at a time." K'Dex said apologetically. For as interesting as an idea as it had been, the flaws had been pointed out once he had joined the crews working on it. He brought up simulated shield, hull, and system integrity screens on his console, and shrunk their displays to sit on the left side, before pulling up the Cargo Bay 2 cargo transporter. The first thing to be loaded would be the 'spy' probe. The rest of the probes for the navigational grid were deployed as they pulled away from the station. "Navigational Grid status optimal."

"Engineering Ready."[ Thea - Battle Bridge, 20 Minutes Later] With Cargo Bay 3 successfully transformed into an emergency triage centre for the purpose of the simulation, Thea had gone over the last minute details before making her way to the Battle Bridge, now that the Mac had left Sigma 4. [ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Battle Bridge, USS Mac ][...] He had just settled himself in at the Tactical station when the order to go to Red Alert and raise shields was given. [...] As both ships made for their starting positions, and the kick-off signal was sent, Niles' eyes were glue to his board, and he was seeing... no opening moves. "I don't like this. Soteria is coming in, but they're in no real hurry. Either they suspect an early trap, or they want us to make the first move." [Lt. The Battle Bridge itself was more sleek and spartan. Honestly, he wasn't a fan of it. He understood the tactical implications of its location, but its use was always a last resort. A sign that peace was no longer a viable option. Granted, this was a training exercise. And he'd seen the crew step up in a number of ways in volunteering strategies and expertise. He ran his hands over his panel, and ran a few last moment diagnostics. "Science ready." he reported in line with the other stations. His ears were still ringing with Vasser's final words, bidding them good hunting as Commander Eastman began issuing orders. It was a single phaser blast. Clearly, both of these commanders were trying to get a feel for one another. Likely, neither wanting to tip their hand too early. It seemed this conflict would be more cerebral than anyone anticipated. Though, that could change very quickly.

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, NSS Soteria] Eastman had responded with a curt reply. Vasser's lips curled slightly, as the last thing she had been paying attention to was Eastman's words. Suddenly, a single phaser blast arched from the Mac, striking the Soteria's shields. Vasser felt a slight trimmer. Clearly, the program was operating as expected, causing the internal dampeners to fluctuate and simulate a direct hit. As expected, a report of direct hit and no damage rang from her tactical officer. Vasser remained in her chair, unshaken and cool, yet still processing the reports coming in. "Helm, axial rotation 75 degrees, heading 3-1-2-mark 7. Tactical, full run of ventral phaser cannons. Aim for the starboard nacelle." Vasser watched as the screen came to life with the arc of several phaser bursts spanning the closing distance of their ships. That could possibly give them a little incentive. "There's an itch... let's see if they scratch."The Parliament was likely still waiting, and possibly growing impatient. Regardless, Vasser wasn't going to give the order sooner than necessary. The Mac's reaction would likely determine when that would recur. For now, it was a dance between the two vessels. And if the Mac didn't want to lead....

It came out of the blue and S'Riia reacted like someone had spilled cold water down her back! Kaya burst out with laughter in her raspy alto nearly spilling her drink. "Who's your mate!" she cried. "Since when do you have a mate!" [NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Kirby's, Starbase Sigma 4] S'Riia was still rather disheveled by the revelation assertion Neema was making. "There is no mate! S'Riia insisted as the questions began to mount and the attention was clearly upon her now. She looked at Kaya's whose interest in the change of topic was more than apparent. Even Bav's grumpiness seemed to be cast aside in lieu of this. Those intelligence types always got giddy when it came to revealing secrets. S'Riia looked back at Neema. "Really, there isn't a mate. If there was a mate, I'm pretty sure I would know!" The security officer hoped her words had put all this ridiculousness behind them.
[NPC - 2nd Lieutenant Neema - Kirby's, Plaza Level Starbase Sigma 4] Neema tilted her head as she looked at Bav. He was a very confusing individual. His entire demeanor seemed to project disinterest. She began to wonder if all Andorians were this way. She hadn't met one until now. Still, there was something else. "You want me to offer you an employment opportunity?" she stated with a bit of uncertainty. "Unfortunately, I'm afraid I'm not authorized to do so, but I could always escort you to our local recruitment office if you wish."Her attention then shifted to Kaya. It seemed the young Trill wasn't in the mood to discuss whatever had her moody. Though, it seemed the more she drank, the more her mood alleviated. "I do not wish for you to reveal anything that would jeopardize your posting," Neema said. Her eyes watched as the replacement drink was set in front of Kaya. "Um... if you prefer... the synthehol offered here is an excellent facsimile of our real drinks. If you... wanted to ensure you don't get into any trouble upon returning to your vessel."The Caitian's insistence that she had no mate confused Neema and made it seem all the more certain. "I'm sorry. I believe I misspoke. I did not mean to infer that you had taken a husband. Merely that you enjoy passionate coitus with a tall man, with pasty skin and dark--" Neema quickly found herself silenced by a furred hand covering her mouth. "How do you know that?!" said S'Riia who was now leaning over the table, holding her furred hand over the mouth of their hostess. S'Riia had told absolutely no one... not even Kaya about any of this. Though, she could feel that she had an audience, not only from others staring in their direction, but more immediately in the form of Kaya and Bav. She pulled her hand from Neema's mouth and settled back into her seat. "I don't have a mate. It was.... They were just dreams," she confessed. S'Riia finally lifted her head back towards Neema. "Which still doesn't explain how you know any of this. It's like you just... plucked it straight from my mind."

[/b] "Yes Ma'am," Niles acknowledged when he was given the order. He was none too keen about the notion of having to cross the entire range of Soteria's torpedor range before having a shot at them, and he was to keep it simple and crude. General targeting, every erg of power he could squeeze out of the weapons in that first pass. So, he watched the range counting down. First he crossed the threshold where the powered range of torpedoes would be sufficient given their closing speeds. Then the nominal three million kilometers of range from rest. Two million. One million. Five hundred thousand. Three hundred and fifty thousands... Then, there it was, maximum effective range and he let fly, just like a full on rookie, from maximum range without doing anything to refine his aim; just hit the Soteria was the plan. His fire struck, but before he could report the effects, the Mac, in the throes of the simulation program, shook and bucked under simulated energy transfer, and he was quick to call back. "Direct hit; aft starboard shields down twenty-eight percent, but holding." As the ships were opening up the distance after the initial pass, he let fly a few more phaser blasts aft, as to keep the Nyberrite vessel occupied. If we can come back around, I could give them a minimum-range full spread of quantum torpedoes; that ought to get their attention."

[Battle Bridge - USS Mac] There was a look of personal acknowledgement towards Isaiah as her beloved reported that Science was ready, before Judy's exchange with Vasser and the orders that she gave to signal the start of the game. As much as this was a simulation, there was a moment where the CMO thought about breakfast and the conversation she had shared with her Boyfriend and whether that off feeling would continue or not. No she had to think about her team and focusing on the positive rather than let her doubts take control. So when Mabel then turned to her, the younger woman's pride was evident as she told Thea about the model to simulate casualties and how it would surprise her department. " I look forward to seeing it in action" she replied, hoping that her team wouldn't get caught out, but then again there was only so much she could train them for. However it would be a case of wait and see, especially as K'Dex then Niles acknowledged Judy's orders which was followed by a retaliation by the Soteria, shaking the Mac in the process. Experience had Thea holding on securely as Niles confirmed the simulated damage, before giving a suggestion for their next move. For some reason Thea didn't think Vasser would want to be defeated but had faith in the crew that they wouldn't give up either. So to take her mind off it, she turned to the console in front of her and began checking in with her department, ready to report any casualties.
