|Ready room || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune|Sven fidgeted with fingers for a moment, then gazed a Judy with a sigh. "I'm not sure. I've been a boots on the ground kind of guy. In the action being told what to do, and doing it. And now." he glanced about. "Now, I'm here, and I have people on that ship I'm responsible for, and there is nothing I can do to step in and fix anything."He glanced back at the holo-projector. "I didn't mean to rain on this game." [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams), Max Williams & Anna Eastman Williams - Captain's Ready Room, USS Mac]Judy nodded slowly, taking in Sven's concern. She knew this feeling, this dilemma, very well. "It's hard, I know. It's hard to have fun when you know that people that you're responsible for are risking their lives. It's hard, but there's really no other way," she explained, addressing the topic head-on. "The job as a manager, as a leader, that you and I have isn't to be there and do it ourselves. We have to make sure that everyone we send out, everyone under our watch, is set up for success. We have to be available if any of our people need us, wherever they are. Sometimes, that means we have a team that's out there, and because we need to be here for everyone else too, we can't be with them. We just have to trust that we did everything that we could, that the people we sent are set up for success, and that we're standing by if they need us. We have to," Judy continued, drawing on rich experience at the nexus of decision-making on topics large and small. As Judy spoke, at length, Max thought of an analogous experience, albeit one that Sven hadn't experienced. "Judy and I felt a similar feeling when our boys went off to college," he recalled, the American term fitting almost naturally in his speech. "It was hard for us to accept that they were going off, and there wasn't anything we could do in the moment to make sure that they make friends, do well in their courses, and make good choices...""Sometimes they made very bad choices," Judy interrupted. "They did, and as parents, we learned to accept that we couldn't do much about it. We learned to focus on what we could affect, and to be there when the boys came to us."Anna rolled her eyes, in light of the fact that her mother's actual behavior undermined her father's metaphor. The youngster hadn't yet been born when Gerald and Lawrence went to college, but she knew now that Thomas was college-aged that Judy was very much a meddling mom.

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat Engineering] Naturally Laurel expected some kind of resistance from those holed up in the Engineering section of the Raider's ship. However what awaited them was something that neither of them could of anticipated as a clearly angry, emotional and emaciated Bajoran woman beat ten kinds of hell out of the Cardassian who she assumed was the Chief Engineer. How many times had Laurel witnessed the sight of someone who was once a prisoner, wanting to get revenge on their captors, especially at the prospect of freedom. However they still needed to tread carefully as Shavan then ordered the woman to put her hands in the air and step away. Whilst she understood the nature of the request as they were yet to determine the woman's loyalty and if she would turn on those from the Medici. Laurel still needed to talk to her, in an attempt to calm her and to also understand. So when the Scientist confirmed that he had secured Engineering and had locked out the controls, Laurel looked to him first. " Excellent, we can report in to Harmon and the Medici" she replied, then focused on the Bajoran. " It's okay you're safe now, they can't do anything else to you, we're from Starfleet".Giving the woman time to process that information, Laurel didn't immediately lower her weapon as she tapped her badge to report in. =/\= Andrews to Harmon and Medici, Engineering has been secured, we also have an unconscious Cardassian male and Bajoran woman, who I believe to be their captive, standing by for further orders =/\=

[Adjacent Main Bridge, Cutthroat] The main corridor leading to the Cutthroat's bridge was deserted. A poorly maintained life support system hissed constantly, spewing mist all around the security team. As a consequence, the air was heavy with humidity and the sound provided them with white noise to cover their approach. As they stacked up on the door, T'Karra ignored the water beading down her face and looked back at Dak. She motioned for another stun grenade and he quietly slipped the palm sized silver device from his belt. He offered it to her with a hard look on his face that she was hard pressed to read. She turned and depressed the button on top, priming the device. With her left hand, she reached forward and squeezed the Lieutenant Commander's shoulder to signal him. They were ready. [Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Cutthroat]
Harmon moved into position to take point along with the rest of his fireteam. T'Karra grabbed his shoulder indicating she was ready. He took a deep breath and then gave the order. "Breach, breach, breach!" as T'Karra's stun grenade went off the three occupants, two Cardassians and an Andorian were dazed by the bright flash and loud bang. The Andorian was shaken and failed to act. After a moment one of the Cardassians seemed to reach for a weapon but was stunned by Crewman Dak, the other was stuck in the middle of the room, unable to take cover in time and still dazed. "Hands in the air now!" he said pointing his rifle at the conscious Cardassian as his team moved into position and did the same for the Andorian. "Show me your hands!" called Ma.
Once things calmed down and the two pirates realised it was over and there was nothing more they could do, Harmon lowered his weapon and approached the Cardassian, who appeared to be the ship's captain. Karavet trained his weapon on the Cardassian to make sure she didn't try anything as Harmon got closer. The captain was clearly incensed but also appeared to be somewhat embarrassed, humiliated even at her defeat. "Look at me. I am the captain now," he declared. "This ship is now property of the United Federation of Planets. You will be detained and arrested on charges relating to piracy. If you cooperate with us you may receive more lenient sentences. Do you understand me?" [Bridge, Cutthroat] Though violence was considered detestable to her people, T'Karra understood its necessity. There were many cultures that willingly, illogically chose brutality and anarchy over peace and order. Her own experience had taught her as much but it offered little answers as to why they made such choices. She had trained for the better part of her adult life to confront these threats. It was crucial for maintaining the tenuous peace in their quadrant of the galaxy and their tactics, operations, and strategies were easier to understand than their philosophical motives. Still, she found herself having to push down the feeling of discomfort at having used violence to gain control of the situation. Under Dak's cover, T'Karra secured the unconscious Cardassian in hand restraints. His face was gaunt and littered with scars from previous engagements. Patting him down for weapons revealed that he was startlingly thin and underweight. Despite being moderately successful in their piracy endeavors, some of them were clearly struggling to get by. Why commit to this willingly? Lieutenant Commander Harmon's comment interrupted her introspection as she finished up her search. Her brows furrowed slightly in confusion. She had been unaware of any field promotions. Deciding that it was of little consequence at the moment, she left her troubling thoughts behind and moved on to help Dak secure the Andorian. [ Glinn Uleya Tarlek - Flight Deck, Pirate Raider Cutthroat ]When the doors to Cutthroat's flight deck were breached, immediately followed by the thundering and flash of concussion grenades, the people who were impotently trying to regain control over the pirate raider were taken completely by surprise. The weapons officer, a Cardassian like all true key personnel on the ships run under the auspices of Kosoter's Scalpers, was the only one to be able to manage to react. He'd not taken the exile from Cardassia well, and it had shown in the loss of his appetite and how he'd been so reckless that he had allowed himself to be injured in hand-to-hand action rather than just shoot the offending parties. His reflexes had once been supreme, his ability to withstand the shock and violence of combat among the finest in the Cardassian Empire... but he'd lost so much of his edge lately, that he never had a chance... The Andorian, on the other hand, was just a pilot with a mean streak and an aversion to the law in general and the vagaries coming from lawful employment; he reckoned he'd found his place with the Scalpers after his various licenses and qualifications had been taken from him over an incident in which he had been found drunk off of thoroughly illegal Romulan Ale, and the freighter he'd been piloting collided with a shuttle filled with schoolchildren... No one had died from the incident, but it had put a pin in his career as a commercial helmsman. But, he was essentially a coward and when his flight deck exploded with violence, he didn't need to be told twice to surrender and stick his hands on his head, only to be meekly cuffed and directed. Tarlek, on the other hand, was fuming. She had fallen right into a trap that had been laid for them. But sensors had indicated nothing amiss... but it could have very well been the cargo they had picked up, what with the fact that while being valuable in the making of life-support components it also had unpleasant effects on sensor systems... That should've been a red flag in its own right but still she'd gone for it... and got herself caught in a meat grinder. And while she didn't put her hands on her head, she didn't move for her weapon either. And when the human who appeared to be in charge got in her face and tried to look impressive, she couldn't help but bark a laugh. Humans could have such ridiculous accents, and this one just didn't have the... presence to make what he was saying. "Please, if you were captain material you wouldn't be here, you'd have some flunkies drag me to you on your ship." Her voice was grating, but full of the arrogance most Federation people knew to expect from Cardassians. She might have been defeated in battle, but she was still a true daughter of Cardassia, no matter what happened to her beloved Empire-turned-Union. "Federation doesn't hire privateers, so that makes you Starfleet, so how about you be a good little flunkie and take me to you real captain?"

[LT(JG) Shavan Th’zhaar - Engineering, Cutthroat] Shavan nodded in acknowledgement to Lt. Andrews before slipping through the door to Cutthroats’ main engineering. He kept his weapon raised and instinctively aimed at the first sign of movement. Quickly he took in the scene in front of him; the bloody Cardassian engineer and his emaciated, shackled assailant. A slave. A cold hatred towards the Scalpers swept over Shavan. He had seen enough of that on his own homeworld. But that didn’t mean she was on their side. “Hands in the air and step away. Now.” he called out to the Bajoran. While the rest of the team finished securing the area, he crossed the small space to the computer console, momentarily keeping his weapon trained on the pair. When he reached the controls, and it was clear that the Cardassian was not getting up, he lowered it so as not to frighten her more. Shavan then quickly set to work accessing the computer and verifying that the systems were under the Medici’s control and hadn’t been sabotaged or accessed manually. “Engineering systems are secure. They’re locked out of all controls.”[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat Engineering] Naturally Laurel expected some kind of resistance from those holed up in the Engineering section of the Raider's ship. However what awaited them was something that neither of them could of anticipated as a clearly angry, emotional and emaciated Bajoran woman beat ten kinds of hell out of the Cardassian who she assumed was the Chief Engineer. So when the Scientist confirmed that he had secured Engineering and had locked out the controls, Laurel looked to him first. " Excellent, we can report in to Harmon and the Medici" she replied, then focused on the Bajoran. It didn't take an expert to cause much damage with a hyperspanner when taking someone completely unawares. She was weakened from starvation, over-work, beatings and abuse, but Tel Shorna's strength was amplified by the months of repressed hate and rage she'd been forced to suppress in order to stay alive. More than once she'd considered letting them kill her, or making them do so. But between her beliefs which looked dimly on the matter of suicide and what passed for discipline among those pirates always stopping them just short of causing irreparable damage she'd not been able to pass on one way or another. But that didn't mean that sick bastard Dorvan was going to be so lucky, and she'd felt bone crack, more than once, under her onslaught. Though, it took her some time to realize what was happening to her, and she found herself looking at the business end of a rifle held by a blue-green-skinned man, and immediately fear returned into her eyes. Pirates could be disciplined, even professional; she'd seen that. And commanding her to just drop her weapon and surrender... that wasn't exactly calculated to put her mind at east. However, what followed was a woman's voice who was, well, much less confrontational. A woman who assured her she was safe, that they belonged to Starfleet. But they were in civilian clothes, though bearing Starfleet-issue weapons, so that meant so very little right about now. She was frightened, and dreading being taken into captivity yet again... "Starfleet?" she asked incredulously, still kneeling next to the Cardassian who was dying from the several cerebral hematomas he was suffering from, courtesy of the beating he'd received and clutching her bloodied improvised club. "Please don't hurt me, please take me home.... please.." As she spoke, her voice quavered and she broke down into sobs, the hyperspanner clattering onto the deck as she buried her face in her filthy, and now blood-stained hands. How she wanted them to be Starfleet despite all appearances; how she wanted it to be true, and not just some other band of pirates... the hope that had been beaten out of her four months ago simply could not win against the amount of abuse she'd endured.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Bridge, Medici] Kova nodded as the Captain-Doctor gave her the order to 'do what she needs to do.' Essentially, she was asking the Andorian to save their collective pink-tushes yet again. Kova didn't waiver, yet fell straight into the task. Her fingers danced across her console even as she tried to edge out just a bit more elbow room at the expense of her neighboring counterpart while she worked. It seemed that things were still well in hand, though Kova didn't want to leave anything to chance. She buffed up her firewalls, just in case someone was saavy enough to put an actual dent in her defenses. There was still the matter of keeping them out of the Medici's computer banks. Though, Kova had firm control of their main systems and found herself beginning to tap into the Cutthroat's secondaries just incase they attempted to reroute those systems. Kova only spared a glance as Mabel made a comment about actually stating the should any unsavory types approach the Bridge, that they'd be sorry. Kova shook her head. Such a poor delusional girl. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to just shoot her in the back and put her out of her misery should someone rush the bridge. At least she could die with a shred of dignity. Of course, it seemed that their first officer thought it better to send her right in the midst of harm's way. Kova certainly wanted to question the order, but wondered why no one else had. Perhaps this was how they were planning to thin the herd. The Captain Doctor thought it best to reassert her dominance, pointing out with a bit of subtlety that she was the one calling the shots. Niles reeled it in a bit, feigning actual innocence, as if he'd just been caught up in the moment. He knew quite well what he'd been doing. He probably wanted command of the entire vessel. Kova began to wonder just how deeply they'd fall into their roles? Would they shed blood of the captaincy of this bucket of bolts? Unlikely. Those Starfleet ideals were typically embedded rather deeply. "There's some mild resistance, but... I've actually been leading them in loop of their systems for the past thirty seconds," Kova reported. "They probably sent their computer expert here to infiltrate our systems directly." Good luck with that. Anyone would find that to be a task much easier said than done. Kova awaited additional orders, but was tempted to start a game of Solitaire. [ Thea - Medici Bridge] If there was one thing Thea didn't like was to pull rank, but when the occasion called for it, then she had no problem in doing so, especially given the tense waiting game that they were now playing. So far everything had gone to plan, just like their drills and run throughs leading up to this moment, but even Thea wasn't naïve in case something changed. That's why she couldn't afford to have Niles take over, whether it be intentional or not. When her XO realised and changed what he was going to say to acknowledge her, Thea hoped that this would be the end of it, as he then asked if it was always this difficult to just sit and let things happen. " Yes it can be, you have to trust your team and not assume anything, just because we practiced it over and over. You soon learn that things can change quickly and always follow the chain of command" she replied honestly, knowing what her answer would be as it wasn't the first time that she had been asked that question. The Skipper's attention then moved to Kova as their systems expert and consultant, gave an update on infiltrating the Cutthroat's systems. She may not know Kova that well but was certainly impressed with her skills and she was definitely an asset to the mission. " Excellent and it's likely that they did" Thea responded, understanding the impact that would of had, if they hadn't of sent their computer expert over but had faith that Kova could of handled it if the raiders hadn't been so over confident. " Keep us updated, Ms Sh'qaleq, once Miss Henriksen secures the computer core, begin the data transfer for all and any useful information, I'll leave it up to you to leave no trace that we were responsible".Then it was back to waiting for news from their team, before they could implement the next stage of the mission. [NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen & PO3 Roland L. Jenkins - Computer Core, Cutthroat]Finally calm enough, she reported in. =A= "Henriksen to Medici. We've secured the computer core. We're all right, but we have one prisoner. She's stunned, but we don't have restraints. The core seems fine," =A= she reported.
Tag Thea Baker and Joshua Niles on the bridge [ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat Engineering] Giving the woman time to process that information, Laurel didn't immediately lower her weapon as she tapped her badge to report in. =/\= Andrews to Harmon and Medici, Engineering has been secured, we also have an unconscious Cardassian male and Bajoran woman, who I believe to be their captive, standing by for further orders =/\= [ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, Converted Merchant Medici ]So he was not alone in thinking that just sitting there waiting was indeed as difficult as he was experiencing. Of course Niles trusted the people he had out there doing their jobs; save for the Andorian with the colourful past, all personnel involved were Starfleet professionals, trained, dedicated, and disciplined. They had drilled to a fare-thee-well for this exact sort of encounter, and were as ready as ready could be. In a way, calculating firing solutions, reporting status changes and apply accuracy that would make surgery look ham-handed to enough firepower to sterilize planets was much easier than this. Was this why he'd taken the lead in directing the course of events, to keep his hands at the controls as best he could as to alleviate the stress that came from just doing absolutely nothing save waiting for things to change? Though, when he got the report from the hacker, he nodded. "Very well. See if you can download their navigation data and their logs from here, probably the best way to track down their operations base," he immediately added. And then, reports started coming in. First Ensign Henriksen reported having secured their computer core with one prisoner, then Lieutenant Andrews who had two people under her control. Which left three from the fourteen they had detected initially unaccounted for. Which made the fact that one boarding team had yet to check in a little worrisome. And before long, they would need to start securing the pirates before they would start to wake up; odds are they'd be unconscious for the next best thing to the coming hour at a minimum, but it never hurt to get things moving. =M= "Bridge, acknowledged," he replied to both, before turning his attention to the Skipper. "Ma'am, we've yet to hear from Commander Harmon; Should we send him reinforcements, or just let him keep going?" The surly Intelligence Officer was someone the First Officer tried to handle with kid gloves; the man had come across as none too pleased that he was in a subordinate position, and that was going past his usually prickly demeanor... and that meant he wasn't too proud to let Commander Baker deal with him, if only to spare himself headaches that would ensue! "Though in the meantime, we should start moving into the securing phase and start getting our guests into the Brig via site to site transports, and any of theirs who's more than stunned into Sickbay under guard. But until we hear back from the Commander, we're can't start planning for interrogation and in-depth analysis of their data." And that was part of their arrangements he was less than pleased about; of course Lieutenant Andrews could conduct interrogations; in fact so could he if it came down to it. Just as there were enough subject matter experts on board to pore over their logs and navigation to get something of value out of them; but Matthew Harmon, for good or for ill, was the only trained analyst they had on board who had the expertise to collate everything and turn it into a cohesive whole. But at least, one thing Medici had was internal volume... at least outside of the nominally habitable portions of her hull. To the point that an entire cargo bay had been converted as a Brig that would leave even the fourteen detainees they had taken rattling like peas in a pod. If anything, they had enough space to ensure everyone would have their own cell, which was a non-trivial concern when trying to manage people who were accustomed to working together and formed cohesive teams.

He didn't mind facing the other way, especially if Mabel's stomach was about to do its thing. And Mabel, between the gross smell of the room and the events that had transpired, seemed liable to regurgitate her breakfast. Finally calm enough, she reported in. =A= "Henriksen to Medici. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Bridge, Medici] Kova simply nodded as Thea requested to be kept apprised of the subsequent developments. Exactly how much techy-babble the human cared, Kova wasn't sure. Though she'd keep it limited to critical events. It didn't take long for more of the crew to reveal that their little gambit had been successful, at least thus far. Lt. Andrews reported that the Cutthroat's Engineering area had been secured. And to Kova's surprise it seemed that Mabel hadn't marched boldly to her death, but had succeeded in securing the Cutthroat's computer core. That could me only one thing: the crew of the Cutthroat were beyond inept. How was it possible that this blundering band had captured the attention of Starfleet? Niles gavethe order to Kova to look into the ship's navigation data and logs to see if she could discern a location for their base of operations. "Already on it," Kova said as she had turned her attention to sift through the data. She ran a filter program through the logs, and was able to see that the Cutthroat had been responsible for some of the activity that had been reported to Starfleet. Kova also found references to a particular set of coordinates that appeared frequently in their navigation data. She collated the top five and prepared a bit of a report for her so-called commanders. Kova lifted her head slightly as it was revealed that Harmon hadn't checked in yet. Perhaps he'd managed to trip and fall head first into a disruptor blast. The thought only briefly amused Kova as she quickly recalled how incompetent the crew of the Cutthroat had already proven to be. Also of note was Niles mention of preparing for interrogation. Kova was wondering exactly how they planned to execute that. Starfleet wasn't exactly known for extracting information with any force. She wondered if the 'executive officer' or even Harmon would take advantage of their current cover to bend the rules. "I've compiled a very short list of coordinates that could be their base of operations," Kova reported. "You'll probably want one of them to confirm it. The other locations, are likely ports they frequent for supplies, recreation or to scout potential targets."

[Cuttthroat Bridge]
The tall former noncom sighed as She stepped onto the bridge, rear guard wasn't usually a post worth of Valhalla but keeping the members of her newest post safe and alive was still an admirable duty during boarding events. The tall woman stepped beside the lanky and slightly familiar Lieutenant Commander and placed a hand on his shoulder. " Evac route back to the Medici is secure, objective complete reports have also been sent by the other fire teams." She placed her hand back on her rifle's foregrip the at rest phaser angled just slightly enough towards the uppity Pirate Captain to be a perceivable threat. She gave a soft curt nod towards The Vulcan crewman and she secured one of the unconscious Pirates. " These hrafnasueltirs (cowards) put up no fight against organized resistance, My how the mighty Empire has fallen" The veterans wolfish grin was shot at the captain, the thought of this cardassian felon being brought to some sort of justice set a soft and pleasant feeling in her heart. " Orders Sir?" She asked the Lieutenant Commander after her bout of gloating.T'Karra Matthew Harmon

[ Thea - Medici Bridge] As Niles confirmed with Kova of what they wanted her to retrieve once she had access to the Raider's computer core, once they had heard from Mabel. Thea wasn't surprised to hear that the Andorian specialist was already on it, again happy with her efficiency and thinking ahead. It was also a relief to hear from Mabel then Andrews as the interim security chief reported that Engineering had been secured. So as Niles then acknowledged both officer's, the Skipper knew that they still had one team who hadn't reported in since they had first boarded the Cutthroat. Given that it was Harmon, she hoped that they hadn't run into any resistance, then again it was likely that they would hear from them shortly. Yes she understood Niles's concern as her XO then made a suggestion as to what they should do in the meantime. " Let's give him a little more time and I agree let's begin the securing phase, as for the planning on speaking to them and doing the in depth analysis, we can deal with that once everyone is back on board".For Thea there was no need to rush through the plan as she'd rather have everyone back safe first and deal with the prisoners. When Kova then informed them of the list that she had been able to compile and gave her recommendation of having one of the Raider's confirm it, due to the likelihood of the other locations. Thea was happy to go with it, trusting the Andorian's instincts in something like this. " Agreed, as we don't want to be wasting time going to the wrong location .. Mr Niles send an update to the Mac, then have Security escort the existing boarding party to the Brig, also Ms Aravis, begin plotting a course away from here, I want us to be ready to leave, as soon as everyone is back where they should be"

[Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Cutthroat -> Bridge, Medici]
Harmon scoffed at the Cardassian officer as she made her pitiful insults. They might have meant something if she hadn't just been beaten by a freighter and if she wasn't in his custody. He briefly considered shooting at her with a low setting but quickly decided against it. "No Starfleet uniforms here. Who know what could happen?" he stated. "And you're right, I'm not captain material," he conceded, staring right into the eyes of the defeated Cardassian. No, Starfleet Captains had to maintain a certain attitude. A certain set of values and temperament. He can, and at times did, do things that few Starfleet captains would. He laughed incredulously at her. "You're nothing. A lacky to Gul Kosoter. An insignificant one time Gul who has somehow deluded himself into thinking he carries on the spirit of the Union? Your Union was weak. You lost. And deep down, you know just how weak and pathetic you are. Preying on defenceless shipping lanes because you know you're incapable of taking on anything that will fight back." With that note, Ensign Tembo arrived, placing her hand on Harmon's shoulder and beginning her own mockery. He turned around, not caring to spend any longer looking at the Cardassian officer. He took his flask from his jacket again and took a drink before providing orders. "Dak, bring the Andorian with me back to the Medici," the Andorian appeared to be the pilot and also appeared far more cowardly than the others. He was probably the best weak link to help them determine the location of the base as quickly as possible. "Tembo, take her to the brig. Make sure she's painfully aware that her freedom is at an end. Karavet, drag the unconscious one there too. She'd better be ready for my questions when I return," he warned ambiguously. "T'Karra, secure the bridge, see if you can find anything useful." He turned around and headed away from the bridge back towards the Medici, Dak and the Andorian in tow.=/\= Harmon to Bridge, Andrews. Bridge is secure. We have an unconscious Cardassian officer and the ship's commander being taken to the brig to await interrogation. I'm heading back to the Bridge with their pilot. =/\=
The two ships were fairly small and so it didn't take too long for him to walk from one bridge to the other, even with Dak restraining a captive. He stopped a little outside the Medici bridge for a moment to talk to the Andorian pilot. "Your one and only use, your one and only chance to have any life outside of a dank cell at any point in your future is for you to give us the coordinates to your base. Understood?" he asked. Once he was satisfied, he entered the Medici bridge with his captive.

=/\= Andrews to Harmon and Medici, Engineering has been secured, we also have an unconscious Cardassian male and Bajoran woman, who I believe to be their captive, standing by for further orders =/\= [ NPC - Tel Shorna - Engineering, Pirate Raider Cutthroat ]
[LT(JG) Shavan Th’zhaar - Engineering, Cutthroat] While Andrews reported that they had secured engineering, Shavan turned back to the Bajoran woman. It was clear now that she was no threat. He was a little caught off guard at the effect Andrews saying they were Starfleet had on her, even when she had no reason to believe it. It was the first time he’d been in a situation like this since joining, and didn’t know anyone outside of Starfleet that had such faith in them. He suddenly felt determined to make sure that whatever hope she had wasn’t misplaced. After all, things like this were exactly why he had joined Starfleet in the first place. Words of compassion weren't exactly one of his strengths, so Shavan settled for the simple truth. “That’s right, we are Starfleet. We’re not here to hurt you. We’re here to take down the Scalpers for good. If you come with us, we can help.” Hesitantly he took a step towards her and offered her a hand up. Giving her a chance to come willingly before they made the call to transport both her and the Cardassian to sick bay. Tag Joshua Niles Thea Baker

The other locations, are likely ports they frequent for supplies, recreation or to scout potential targets."[ Thea - Medici Bridge] As Niles confirmed with Kova of what they wanted her to retrieve once she had access to the Raider's computer core, once they had heard from Mabel. Thea wasn't surprised to hear that the Andorian specialist was already on it, again happy with her efficiency and thinking ahead. It was also a relief to hear from Mabel then Andrews as the interim security chief reported that Engineering had been secured. Perhaps waiting for things to happen, and being willing to step back even when he was entirely capable of managing the situation by himself might be difficult for Niles, but at least he was adept at multi-tasking, provided it was towards a singular goal. And in this case, he was monitoring communications to and from the Mac, the activities of the security and boarding teams, the process of the downloads from Cutthroat, and the happenings on the Bridge itself. At least, he knew Engineering was in good, trustworthy hands and he wouldn't have to worry about what was happening in there... not that he had the expertise to deal with it. Though, he certainly wished he had more control on the boarding action... However, so far the Skipper was agreeing with him with the course of action, so he wasted little time in enacting the first of her orders. =M= "All hands, this is the Bridge. Begin the securing phase; casualties to Sickbay under guard, detainees who are no more than stunned to the cells. Transporter support will be available as required."=M= Though, no sooner had he done this, and almost immediately on the heels of Commander Baker's position about Mister Harmon, he came on the channel. So three more pirates were in custody... which meant that it made for all of them. =M= "Bridge to Harmon, acknowledged,"=M= he replied before his hands started gliding over his board to compose a quick report to the Mac... which was interrupted again, this time by Lieutenant Andrews. =M= "Very well. Good work, and please see to it our... guest is kept clear of any of the detainees, and... please stay with her for now."=M= The first part was easy to deal with; however, that captive Lieutenant Andrews had spoken of, that was not something he'd really expected. However, given what he knew of piracy he could only imagine what she'd gone through, but he hoped that having her saviour, and another woman at that, stay with her would do her some good for the time being. And finally, he got to the message he would send off to the Mac. Once the message was composed, he hit the button to send it out as a heavily encrypted burst transmission that would be next to impossible to detect, let alone intercept, for their distant guardian Angel. And with that done, he turned his attention back to the Skipper. "Ma'am, I reckon we don't have the personnel for a prize crew for Cutthroat, not if we're going to be heading towards the Scalpers' base of operations. We should scuttle her before we head out."And just as he made that recommendation, the door opened to reveal Commander Harmon in all of his surly glory, an a thoroughly cuffed Andorian who looked more than a little cowed. That, he would let the Skipper handle...

" Lieutenant, once you're both ready, I'll request transport, it's time to get back and end this once and for all". [ NPC - Tel Shorna - Engineering, Pirate Raider Cutthroat ]
There had been a time at which Tal Shorna didn't much care for Starfleet. Meddlesome, bureaucratic, nosy, getting in the way of honest merchants with their regulations and inspections and directives, their contraband lists, quarantine regulations, customs fees and certifications they were free of vermin, or that their warp core wasn't one of those that would risk destabilizing subspace and making sure they wouldn't sideswipe some shuttle when approaching docks... And, to her, the security aspect that Starfleet provided had always been more of an intellectual sort of knowledge. In eight years of being a merchant spacer, she'd only encountered pirates twice before. Once they had been outrun, and the other time they turned back because a Federation starship just happened to be within sensor range at the time, and not even heading their way. So when the skipper of the Yellow Rose decided to take high-profit runs in the middle of nowhere, even with a lesser Fleet presence anywhere near the area, the notion of running into danger didn't really occur to anyone. Until the Scalpers, and Cutthroat, appeared. The Yellow Rose had tried to run, and tried to fight. Two huge mistakes. Cutthroat's fire disabled her engines, and then vaporized her bridge, killing everyone in it. When they were boarded, the pirates were savages, and they picked the Rose clean. Four of the crew were taken to be sold as slaves... and Tal Shorna was pressed into service as one of Cutthroat's engineers, given one had been killed in the action. And her four month descent into hell began. She had lost all hope of doing more than just keeping her head down, of ever going home, of ever being free of the fear and pain and the... humiliations ever again. But when those two people came in, one who looked like a rather sickly Andorian and the other clearly a Human, she'd dared to hope again... she had no way to know if they were really Starfleet... but wherever they would take her, it couldn't possibly be as bad as what had happened to her thus far. However, when the one with the antennas reached out for her, she scuttled away, and instinctively made for the woman who seemed to be in charge... perhaps he was perfectly nice, but given how she'd been treated, she wasn't quite ready to trust a man just yet... Please, just get me out of here, anywhere... and keep me away from them! They..." And that was the last she would say, for she collapsed into sobs yet again. ((Ready to move her to sickbay at your discretion))

" Orders Sir?" She asked the Lieutenant Commander after her bout of gloating. [Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Cutthroat -> Bridge, Medici]

Once he was satisfied, he entered the Medici bridge with his captive. [ Glinn Uleya Tarlek - Flight Deck, Pirate Raider Cutthroat ]
"Ha!" Uleya couldn't help her bark of derision at the Human. Of course he was just a Federation lapdog, trying to talk a big game and thinking he was intimidating. Please, she had grown up in the days of the Obsidian Order, of ruthless conquests, and of always having to watch her back for someone planting a figurative knife in it; people entirely more brutal than a mere human could be. "You're right, the Union was weak, the Empire was strong. And like the Empire before the Union, we take what we want, when we want. And yeah, you caught us, but only because we were at the end of our run. You could stop eight of my crew; how would you have done against sixty?"Though, there was no more that could be added when that flunkie tasked another lackey to take her into confinement. Well, at least it would be comfortable. Starfleet was soft and didn't know the first thing about properly handling prisoners. Hell, they wouldn't strip her, torture her, deny her food or sleep, drug her... they would just ask her nice polite questions, then refer her to a judge who'd make sure she would be tried by their rules, where they would have to prove her guilt beyond reasonable doubt... they might even just let her go in the end. "Yes, Tembo, take me to your Brig, and I could use something to eat, you know, before my conversation that one promised?"Oh no, she wasn't scared one bit. There was no way those Federation types would syphon her computers, that wasn't their way. They didn't even do it in wartime! The Andorian pilot, on the other hand, was struggling with a need to empty his bladder. He couldn't go back to jail... and he might have a few outstanding warrants in a few places across the Federation. If there were, hopefully the Federation-level piracy charges would take precedence and see those additional charges tacked on as concurrent sentences... He was just in it for the money, and being able to fly after getting his license and certifications stripped away. And he found himself getting frog-marched through the now-empty Cutthroat, across the boarding bridge and onto the freigher they'd taken. A freighter that, on the inside, looked entirely less ramshackle than on the outside. Oh, there was the damage from the actual boarding but already there were technicians working to repair the blown inner airlock door, and someone working on the weapons pockmarks in the main corridor. But everything was clean and well-maintained, and the crew, though in civilian clothes, was clearly Starfleet indeed, moving with purpose and skill and the economy of effort of real disciplined professionals. Oh yes, Tarlek had bitten more than she could chew and she hadn't even known it. But, just outside what had to be their Bridge, that surly human stopped and looked him in the eye. "Look, man, I was just in this for the money, I'm not dying in jail for them. Whaddya want to know? If I know, I'll answer, all right. But not you... I'll talk to your captain and only your captain, and only after I get your pretty promises in writing."((Ready to take this to the Bridge now))

Tag: Joshua Niles, Thea Baker, @whluf, Evangeline Tembo [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Bridge, Medici] Kova simply nodded as Thea requested to be kept apprised of the subsequent developments. Mr Niles send an update to the Mac, then have Security escort the existing boarding party to the Brig, also Ms Aravis, begin plotting a course away from here, I want us to be ready to leave, as soon as everyone is back where they should be"[Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Cutthroat -> Bridge, Medici]
=/\= Harmon to Bridge, Andrews. Bridge is secure. We have an unconscious Cardassian officer and the ship's commander being taken to the brig to await interrogation. I'm heading back to the Bridge with their pilot. =/\= [ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat Engineering] =/\= Acknowledged, we'll be beaming directly to the Medici's Sickbay with the two we have here, Andrews out =/\= [ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, Converted Merchant Medici ]

She was grateful that none of the pirates had made it to the bridge and that she hadn't had to use her phaser. She was more than happy to set it aside and turn her attention to the helm when the doctor ordered her to plot a course. Yes, ma'am, she responded promptly. I'll put us back on our previous course, sans navigational drift, until we get new information.Harmon entered then with one of the pirates, and Aravis eyed him curiously, wondering why he'd been brought to the bridge.
