[Bridge, Cutthroat] T'Karra quietly watched her two fellow servicemen demean, deride, and incise their captives, namely the former female captain that continued posturing. She sensed something stirring within her the longer their confrontation went on but kept her focus her work. She could ignore it no longer, however, when the Lieutenant Commander began making vague threats. It took a moment to identify the feeling before subduing it. Disgust. Much of what he said had been true. The Union was broken, many Cardassians dead by way of genocide; and these pirates had pursued soft targets, though it was a logical course of action for an illogical profession. And while she understood that many humanoid species relished in taunting their adversaries in victory, their conduct was undoubtedly unbecoming of Starfleet personnel. When Lieutenant Commander Harmon gave his orders, she answered with a monotone, "Aye, sir." After a brief hesitation, she sat at the helm console and directed Mak to sweep the other stations. Cryptography was not her expertise but the ship's systems appeared rudimentary at best. Between the two of them, it would likely be only a short time before they secured whatever actionable intelligence that their leadership were pursuing- if any still existed. As her fingers glided across the keyboard, she meditated on her own inaction. If their behavior had been inappropriate, why had she failed to confront them? There was no rational for letting the behavior go unquestioned. It had not escaped her notice that some of her disgust was now reflected inward... Joshua Niles

[NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen & PO3 Roland L. Jenkins - Computer Core, Cutthroat]Having not been given explicit orders, Mabel and Jenkins were left essentially to exercise their own judgement. "I don't like this. When she wakes up, she'll attack us all over again," Jenkins fretted, motioning at the Klingon. "You're right. It's dangerous," Mabel agreed. "Should we just..." Jenkins trailed off, miming a dragging motion. "Better to tie her up," Mabel suggested instead. "Tear down that shower curtain, will you?""Yes, ma'am," Jenkins took the order, and tore down a ratty old shower curtain, while Mabel rolled the unconscious Klingon over. Taking the curtain, Mabel then rolled it up into a rope, grimacing throughout, and hog-tied the onetime assailant. It felt bad to treat a living person like this, even one who had sought to kill her. =A= "Henriksen to Medici. We've restrained our prisoner, but she's not very secure. We, uh... hog-tied her with an old shower curtain, and it's not very strong. We could use one more person here, so we can drag her to the Brig without abandoning the core. The core is hidden in the communal showers. Henriksen out," =A= Mabel reported back again, having not been given orders on moving the prisoner. In the background, Jenkins lost his breakfast into one of the showers. This place was gross. As the sound and then smell hit Mabel, she resisted an urge to do likewise.

[Cuttthroat Bridge-> On route to Medici Brig.] Evangeline hefted the unconscious pirate over her shoulder in a half fireman's carry, before she pulled the Captain up by her collar and pushed her towards the bridge's door. "Come, Time to move Andskoti(Devil)" She was going to do as she was ordered, though the mustang had decided the lanky and familiar looking Greyshirt was an officer she would likely dislike if she got to know him better. She had never liked intelligence officers, they often fell under a manner where nothing was too low a bar. As she pondered the lanky man she turned her site to the Pirate captain she was tasked with leading "A bad beginning begets a bad end" The Veteran said as She lead her down the barren pathways of the Pirate Schooner. " My Modor told me a saying about those with your Temperament, 'The Hungry Wolf always takes the weaker prey.' And by this you were beaten, your journey ends this day." She stopped the pirate for a short moment and turned her to face her, a wolfish grin spreading on her lips. " a thought, Andskoti, As you walk, you were taken in a boarding action, and we have taken your cargo and ship as our prize, Our Leader, " She said with a small amount of venom. " wished to see your cooperation with his demands through Fear and intimidation, dropped the name of an organization that has the power for most pirates to at least fear their wrath. Do you truly think you know the end that awaits you at your destination?" She gave a soft laugh and urged her forward again, moving towards the Medici lower decks. Joshua Niles (for the NPC mostly)

[ Thea - Medici Bridge] It appeared that they didn't have to wait to long to hear from Harmon, once Niles had began the securing phase that they had discussed, now that their initial mission was drawing to a successful close. Thea knew that there was still a lot to do, but for now, she listened as her FO acknowledged both Harmon and Andrews, when the security officer followed with an update with the two people they had secured, including the captive. Whilst the Medici crew hadn't anticipated that possibility, the woman would receive the best care, until they got back to the Mac and Front Ear. Agreeing with the order of keeping the woman separate from the detainees, as she didn't need to be around them anymore and if she had time, would check on her personally. When Niles then made a suggestion of scuttling the Cutthroat, rather than leave a skeleton crew to man her, Thea knew that this was something they hadn't finalised. However considering the personnel that they brought with them and the fact that it wasn't practical for them to capture the Raider ship, it made sense to do so. Perhaps leaving a message for those who might come looking for it. " Good idea, make preparations to do so" Thea replied, as Aravis then responded to her order. " Excellent".As she answered their pilot, Thea became aware of Harmon and the pilot that he had told them about appear on the Bridge as Mabel then called in about their unconscious captive. Taking a moment to acknowledge the Ensign as she got to her feet once more. =/\= Acknowledged Henriksen, standby for beam out, the three of you as we'll be leaving shortly =/\= " Mr Niles, if you can arrange that whilst I talk to our guest here" Thea ordered as she stood to her full height and looked at the Andorian. " As you can see, we don't mess around, so I suggest that you tell us the location of your base, if you want to have a fair trial".

[Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Medici]Harmon didn't answer the Andorian as he asserted he'd only speak to his captain. He just had Dak drag him onto the bridge and in front of Niles. At least it seemed like he was going to spill his guts without much effort. It was nice when things were easy and went his way, not that it happened often.
"We're better off manning the Cuttthroat. It's better in a fight and we can more easily approach their base without drawing as much suspicion," he asserted towards Niles as he heard the junior officer recommend scuttling it. He looked between Niles at Baker, hoping the good Doctor would see reason.

|Ready room || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune|Sven fidgeted with fingers for a moment, then gazed a Judy with a sigh. "I'm not sure. I've been a boots on the ground kind of guy. In the action being told what to do, and doing it. And now." he glanced about. "Now, I'm here, and I have people on that ship I'm responsible for, and there is nothing I can do to step in and fix anything."He glanced back at the holo-projector. "I didn't mean to rain on this game." [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams), Max Williams & Anna Eastman Williams - Captain's Ready Room, USS Mac]Judy nodded slowly, taking in Sven's concern. She knew this feeling, this dilemma, very well. "It's hard, I know. It's hard to have fun when you know that people that you're responsible for are risking their lives. It's hard, but there's really no other way," she explained, addressing the topic head-on. "The job as a manager, as a leader, that you and I have isn't to be there and do it ourselves. We have to make sure that everyone we send out, everyone under our watch, is set up for success. We have to be available if any of our people need us, wherever they are. Sometimes, that means we have a team that's out there, and because we need to be here for everyone else too, we can't be with them. We just have to trust that we did everything that we could, that the people we sent are set up for success, and that we're standing by if they need us. We have to," Judy continued, drawing on rich experience at the nexus of decision-making on topics large and small. As Judy spoke, at length, Max thought of an analogous experience, albeit one that Sven hadn't experienced. "Judy and I felt a similar feeling when our boys went off to college," he recalled, the American term fitting almost naturally in his speech. "It was hard for us to accept that they were going off, and there wasn't anything we could do in the moment to make sure that they make friends, do well in their courses, and make good choices...""Sometimes they made very bad choices," Judy interrupted. "They did, and as parents, we learned to accept that we couldn't do much about it. We learned to focus on what we could affect, and to be there when the boys came to us."Anna rolled her eyes, in light of the fact that her mother's actual behavior undermined her father's metaphor. The youngster hadn't yet been born when Gerald and Lawrence went to college, but she knew now that Thomas was college-aged that Judy was very much a meddling mom.

For so long he had done it all himself, and now he was relying on others. Of course, accomplishments made everyone look good, but what would it say about his command and leadership abilities if the people under him failed? "What did you do when they made bad choices? You can't make people do the right thing. Hell you can't make them do anything the way you want it." and it was true. But the latter wasn't as much of a concern until recently. He took a chip and dipped it into the guac, still troubled. The game continued on, with another hit and the crowd cheered or the batter as he took first. "I don't want to fail. =/\= Acknowledged Henriksen, standby for beam out, the three of you as we'll be leaving shortly =/\= [NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen & PO3 Roland L. Jenkins - Computer Core, Cutthroat -> Medici]Well, this was quite a relief. If they were already withdrawing, that meant the other boarders had been successful too. What's more, there would be no need to drag their prisoner through here, thanks to the transporter. And boy, was the timing perfect. As Mabel materialized in the Brig of the Medici, the lack of a fungal stench washed over her, like a splash of water on a balmy summer day (and to a Minnesotan like Mabel, heat is far more foreign than to anyone else), and she felt her breathing going back to normal. "The prisoner is violent and aggressive," she cautioned, as she and then Jenkins walked away. "I'm never doing this again," Jenkins muttered, while walking back to the Mess Hall. ***|Ready Room, USS Mac || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune|It was a lot to consider. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams), Max Williams & Anna Eastman Williams - Captain's Ready Room, USS Mac]Judy sighed very heavily. They'd gotten to the great, inevitable downside of command and Starfleet service. "In our line of work, we lose people, good people, far too often, and it hurts. It hurts when someone under you dies a preventable death, and it hurts when you have to sacrifice someone. It's a cruel reality of Starfleet life, that we can do... everything right, but still lose lives," Judy explained, and the toll that casualties took on the older woman played out on her in real time. She trembled, her face turned red, and her normally steady voice grew shaky. "I'm not going to lie... I don't have a method, some kind of trick to get over that. I wake up at 3AM, from nightmares about those lives cut so tragically short, and I cry myself back to sleep. I don't... let go, I don't move on," she continued. Max, empathizing with his wife's pain (he was the one to console her after a nightmare or a difficult condolence visit), motioned for her to come closer. She readily left her chair to sit in his lap. "Every death is a gut punch. Every casualty is one too many. What we can do... what we must do, is try our best to... to make our operations... as safe as we can, to honor and grieve our fallen peers, and to learn... from every death, to learn everything we can so we can avoid losing someone else the same way. That's how I... move forward. I don't move on, but I move forward."Max held Judy in a tight hug, giving her comfort and strength. After a moment, Judy heard a ping from her PADD. She grabbed it, donned her readers, and looked at the message. "The Medici succeeded. No casualties!" she summarized, the previous abstract grief making way for material, in-the-moment delight. "When something happens, and you need someone to talk to, you can talk to us," Max said to Sven, sticking his head over Judy's left shoulder. "Max's chest is great for crying on," Judy quipped, all the while typing a message back. Well done! Send my regards to the crew. I look forward to reading the full report.
-J.E.W. Anna, having previously listened gravely to her mother's talk about grief, was now back to rolling her eyes at her parents' PDA. They were so predictable.

[ Thea - Medici Bridge] [...] So as Niles then acknowledged both officer's, the Skipper knew that they still had one team who hadn't reported in since they had first boarded the Cutthroat. Given that it was Harmon, she hoped that they hadn't run into any resistance, then again it was likely that they would hear from them shortly. Yes she understood Niles's concern as her XO then made a suggestion as to what they should do in the meantime. " Let's give him a little more time and I agree let's begin the securing phase, as for the planning on speaking to them and doing the in depth analysis, we can deal with that once everyone is back on board".For Thea there was no need to rush through the plan as she'd rather have everyone back safe first and deal with the prisoners. When Kova then informed them of the list that she had been able to compile and gave her recommendation of having one of the Raider's confirm it, due to the likelihood of the other locations. Thea was happy to go with it, trusting the Andorian's instincts in something like this. " Agreed, as we don't want to be wasting time going to the wrong location .. Mr Niles send an update to the Mac, then have Security escort the existing boarding party to the Brig, also Ms Aravis, begin plotting a course away from here, I want us to be ready to leave, as soon as everyone is back where they should be" [Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Cutthroat -> Bridge, Medici] =/\= Harmon to Bridge, Andrews. Bridge is secure. We have an unconscious Cardassian officer and the ship's commander being taken to the brig to await interrogation. I'm heading back to the Bridge with their pilot. =/\= [ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, Converted Merchant Medici ]
[...] However, so far the Skipper was agreeing with him with the course of action, so he wasted little time in enacting the first of her orders. =M= "All hands, this is the Bridge. Begin the securing phase; casualties to Sickbay under guard, detainees who are no more than stunned to the cells. Transporter support will be available as required."=M= Though, no sooner had he done this, and almost immediately on the heels of Commander Baker's position about Mister Harmon, he came on the channel. So three more pirates were in custody... which meant that it made for all of them. =M= "Bridge to Harmon, acknowledged,"=M= he replied before his hands started gliding over his board to compose a quick report to the Mac... which was interrupted again, this time by Lieutenant Andrews. =M= "Very well. Good work, and please see to it our... guest is kept clear of any of the detainees, and... please stay with her for now."=M= The first part was easy to deal with; however, that captive Lieutenant Andrews had spoken of, that was not something he'd really expected. However, given what he knew of piracy he could only imagine what she'd gone through, but he hoped that having her saviour, and another woman at that, stay with her would do her some good for the time being. [....] nce the message was composed, he hit the button to send it out as a heavily encrypted burst transmission that would be next to impossible to detect, let alone intercept, for their distant guardian Angel. And with that done, he turned his attention back to the Skipper. "Ma'am, I reckon we don't have the personnel for a prize crew for Cutthroat, not if we're going to be heading towards the Scalpers' base of operations. We should scuttle her before we head out."And just as he made that recommendation, the door opened to reveal Commander Harmon in all of his surly glory, an a thoroughly cuffed Andorian who looked more than a little cowed. That, he would let the Skipper handle... [Lt. jg. Aravis - Medici Bridge] Aravis had sat nervously and quietly as the takeover had gone down. She was grateful that none of the pirates had made it to the bridge and that she hadn't had to use her phaser. She was more than happy to set it aside and turn her attention to the helm when the doctor ordered her to plot a course. Yes, ma'am, she responded promptly. I'll put us back on our previous course, sans navigational drift, until we get new information.Harmon entered then with one of the pirates, and Aravis eyed him curiously, wondering why he'd been brought to the bridge. [ Thea - Medici Bridge] It appeared that they didn't have to wait to long to hear from Harmon, once Niles had began the securing phase that they had discussed, now that their initial mission was drawing to a successful close. "We're better off manning the Cuttthroat. It's better in a fight and we can more easily approach their base without drawing as much suspicion," he asserted towards Niles as he heard the junior officer recommend scuttling it. He looked between Niles at Baker, hoping the good Doctor would see reason. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Bridge, Medici] Kova found herself attentive to the orders being issued on the Bridge, even as she skimmed through the search of the Cutthroat's computer core. It was soon revealed that Harmon was alive after all. It was ask expected. The crew of the Cutthroat was completely inept. It seemed their ship would have been more aptly named if it were called the Choke considering the crew. Besides securing the prisoners, it seemed the order of business was to get underway and even scuttling the ship courtesy Mr. Niles. The Andorian only arched her eyebrow at the suggestion. It seemed that that trigger finger of his was heavy after all. She understood his logic. They didn't have the numbers to man the ship. However, Kova did have her own reservations about doing so. If their friends came rummaging about and discovered one of their own sister ships left in such a condition, the hunters could easily become the hunted. It began to sound as if the Doctor-Captain agreed, but there was one last voice of protest, Lt. Commander Harmon. It quickly became apparent that round 2 of the pissing contest had begun. Niles... Baker... and Harmon. Did either of them really know who was in charge? Though, this did seem to give some credence to Harmon's motive for befriending Mabel. A few sweet whispers in Mabel's little ears could have Harmon sitting in the Captain's chair instead of Baker. It was beginning to look as if they would be marching right to their deaths after all. In Kova's opinion, destroying the Cutthroat could send up red flags they weren't prepared to contend with. However, sailing into 'Pirate Bay' aboard the Cutthroat, with no credible idea of their routines and procedures was suicide (not that doing the same with the Medici was any better.) Still, the Andorian wasn't about to jump in the middle of this conflict. Her eyes moved towards the Andorian that had come onto the Bridge in tow with Harmon. Kova's eyes narrowed at the very sight of him. She wasn't sure what was more insulting: that the Andorian had lowered himself to be apart of something like this... or that Harmon probably found it amusing to flaunt this in her face, and how he was clearly leveraging this Andorian. The only certainty appeared to be that she wouldn't have to stomach it long, seeing as the three humans would surely lead them straight to their deaths by day's end.

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat Engineering] As Shavan moved forward and spoke to the Bajoran woman, once she had processed what Laurel had said and practically begged them to take her away from here. There was more sympathy aimed at her and Laurel was glad that they had found her when they did, so she didn't have to suffer anymore. However before she could say anything, the ship responded, followed by Harmon and Laurel understood that it was time to return to the Medici. =/\= Acknowledged, we'll be beaming directly to the Medici's Sickbay with the two we have here, Andrews out =/\=Having included the Skipper in the call, Laurel closed the channel then looked at Shavan and the Bajoran woman. " We can, in fact we'll take you to our Sickbay first, then we can arrange for you to go home, once this is over".Laurel hoped that she would be willing to let Shavan help her as she then added. " Lieutenant, once you're both ready, I'll request transport, it's time to get back and end this once and for all".[ NPC - Tel Shorna - Engineering, Pirate Raider Cutthroat ]
There had been a time at which Tal Shorna didn't much care for Starfleet. Meddlesome, bureaucratic, nosy, getting in the way of honest merchants with their regulations and inspections and directives, their contraband lists, quarantine regulations, customs fees and certifications they were free of vermin, or that their warp core wasn't one of those that would risk destabilizing subspace and making sure they wouldn't sideswipe some shuttle when approaching docks... And, to her, the security aspect that Starfleet provided had always been more of an intellectual sort of knowledge. In eight years of being a merchant spacer, she'd only encountered pirates twice before. Once they had been outrun, and the other time they turned back because a Federation starship just happened to be within sensor range at the time, and not even heading their way. So when the skipper of the Yellow Rose decided to take high-profit runs in the middle of nowhere, even with a lesser Fleet presence anywhere near the area, the notion of running into danger didn't really occur to anyone. Until the Scalpers, and Cutthroat, appeared. The Yellow Rose had tried to run, and tried to fight. Two huge mistakes. Cutthroat's fire disabled her engines, and then vaporized her bridge, killing everyone in it. When they were boarded, the pirates were savages, and they picked the Rose clean. Four of the crew were taken to be sold as slaves... and Tal Shorna was pressed into service as one of Cutthroat's engineers, given one had been killed in the action. And her four month descent into hell began. She had lost all hope of doing more than just keeping her head down, of ever going home, of ever being free of the fear and pain and the... humiliations ever again. But when those two people came in, one who looked like a rather sickly Andorian and the other clearly a Human, she'd dared to hope again... she had no way to know if they were really Starfleet... but wherever they would take her, it couldn't possibly be as bad as what had happened to her thus far. However, when the one with the antennas reached out for her, she scuttled away, and instinctively made for the woman who seemed to be in charge... perhaps he was perfectly nice, but given how she'd been treated, she wasn't quite ready to trust a man just yet... Please, just get me out of here, anywhere... and keep me away from them! They..." And that was the last she would say, for she collapsed into sobs yet again. [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Engineering, Cutthroat] Shavan stepped back when the Bajoran flinched away. He didn’t want to scare her but didn't know what else to do, or what she might have suffered under people who looked a lot more like him than Andrews. He had seen two Orion men in the boarding party, and didn’t need to be told what they might be capable of. So he looked to Lieutenant Andrews, to confirm she was okay with being the one to stay with their guest. Instead he took hold of the unconscious Cardassian, to help with transport and in case he woke up and struggled. They needed to move on and get back to the Medici. “Ready to transport out.”

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat Engineering] =/\= Acknowledged, Andrews out =/\= The Lieutenant's reply was short and to the point once Niles had responded with wanting the captive to be kept away from the other detainees, which Laurel had intended to do. That decision received further validation when the Bajoran woman quickly moved away from Shavan and his offer of reaching for her hand and stood beside Laurel instead. " It's okay, you'll be away from here soon" Laurel said reassuringly, before Shavan confirmed that he was ready to beam out. Laurel certainly wouldn't miss the Cutthroat as she called for transport, the beam claiming her, the Bajoran, Shavan and the unconscious Cardassian. [Medici - Sickbay] Once the group had materialised in the small but functional Sickbay, Laurel briefed the Medical staff before talking to the Bajoran. " You're safe now, the medics will check you over".

[Cuttthroat Bridge-> On route to Medici Brig.] Evangeline hefted the unconscious pirate over her shoulder in a half fireman's carry, before she pulled the Captain up by her collar and pushed her towards the bridge's door. Joshua Niles (for the NPC mostly) [ NPC - Glinn Uleya Tarlek - Cutthroat Flight Deck to Medici Brig ]When grabbed by the collar, Tarlek debated resisting. She was cuffed, but she could make the human work for it to get her to what Starfleet considered confinement. By Cardassian standards, Federation cells were almost hotel rooms, hardly the sort of place that a self-respecting force would keep prisoners they meant to remind of their status! "Whatever you say, Human," she grated in response to the order to move. Oh, she most definitely was not frightened in any way. They were Starfleet; Federation. Soft. There was really nothing they would do to her that would even come close to proper interrogations or anything like that. And that woman just kept. On. Talking. As if she meant to shame her or something, or scare her. Please. "Your 'leader' was just some flunkie, and you work for him, and it takes more than Starfleet threats to scare me. You might be out of uniform, but you people play by the rules. You won't feed me back to the Scalpers, you'll take me to face trial, where your prosecutors will have to prove my guilt. At worst I go to a Federation jail for a little while... and it's entirely possible I'll just walk out of there free. How does it feel to be that impotent?"

“Ready to transport out.”[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat Engineering] =/\= Acknowledged, Andrews out =/\= The Lieutenant's reply was short and to the point once Niles had responded with wanting the captive to be kept away from the other detainees, which Laurel had intended to do. [ NPC - Tel Shorna - Medici Sickbay ]In close proximity to her female saviour, Tal Shorna was still not certain what would await her on the other side. But, she wanted to believe them, that she was going to be safe, that all was going to be well. For one thing, she was fairly certain that if they were lying to her, she would not survive it at all. But, the transporter effect that enveloped her was familiar, and when the world reassembled itself before her eyes, she was in what was clearly a medical bay. Not the largest, hardly the most modern, but it was equipped with thoroughly Starfleet equipment. On one biobed was one female Human getting an ankle looked after, while on another a fellow was getting chided for throwing out his back trying to pick up a Nausican all by himself... And then the medics turned towards the foursome that just appeared in their bay, and instantly the moved towards the four of them, tricorders out. Gently, one of them guided the obviously brutalized woman towards one of the beds. The other turned to the unconscious Cardassian and his tricorder made a few alarming trills as he scanned the casualty. "Sir, that man's dead... there was no saving him."

[ Lt. " As you can see, we don't mess around, so I suggest that you tell us the location of your base, if you want to have a fair trial".[Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Medici]Harmon didn't answer the Andorian as he asserted he'd only speak to his captain.
[ LT(JG) Joshua Niles and NPC Former Pirate Pilot Ther - Bridge, Converted Merchant Medici ]With the entrance of Commander Harmon and one prisoner, just he was suggesting making Cutthroat disappear permanently, Niles' board chimed with a congratulations message from the Mac. Well, that was a start, and he would pass the word on when he would have a chance. However, it would seem that Harmon didn't like the idea of scuttling the pirate raider. If they were heading straight home, they would have enough personnel to maintain something close to proper watchkeeping on Medici and a half-decent prize crew on Cutthroat, assuming both ships would travel in company and help could be made available on short notice. But to take both ships and keep going with their mission? Funny, for not that long ago he would have advised anything to improve combat power and accept those risks. But now that he was in a command slot for this mission, that particular notion found itself clashing with prioritizing the mission's success and keeping the crew, his crew alive. "Skipper, I don't like the idea. We get into trouble, we won't have enough people on either ship to fight effectively, or deal with any kind of damage control. And we're not worked up on Cutthroat either. And using her to get into their base? Can we bet lives that everything we need will be in their databases, or that anything we get from interrogation will be what we actually need and not their duress codes?"As he spoke, his eyes were going from the Intelligence Officer, whom he was certain did not like him much, to the mission's commander. As first officer, his job was to raise objections and provide options until such a time as a call was made, and once it was, well, his job was to make it happen. And he meant to do precisely that. And right now, at the risk of getting Harmon to despise him even more, his job was to disagree with him based on his judgement. However, before he could continue, the Andorian pilot spoke up. "Look, this is all really fun to watch. Didn't know you Starfleet types bickered like that. Now, that scrawny pinkskin said I'd get a good deal if I helped. Well, I'm not saying a damn thing until I get it all in writing, all official and all, and signed by the captain."If his hands had been free, it was pretty clear the pilot would have crossed his arms. Instead, the way he stood looked more like an intractable toddler than anything else. However, while that was happening, and while the final decision on the course of action would be made, Niles was reviewing the logs of Cutthroat's movements, and before long he had a central node to their travels identified. However, he was not about to say anything out loud just yet, and he punched up the information in his terminal only frown. Well, that certainly was interesting all right. So even without the help of a 'helpful' witness, he would have something to work with... but he needed other eyes on the information at hand. =M= "Niles to Lieutenant Th'zhaar, please report to the Bridge,"=M= he simply said over a comms channel, before returning his attention to the other happenings on the cramped command deck.

[ Thea - Medici Bridge] The last thing Thea expected was the counter suggestion from Harmon regarding their plan going forward to locate the Pirate base and pave the way for the Mac to join them. However it certainly gave the Skipper something to think about, rather than going ahead with scuttling the Cutthroat. Naturally Niles opposed the idea and gave his reasons why it wouldn't work and whilst both officer's had a point, Thea knew that ultimately it was down to her to make the decision that could either work or lead them into more trouble. For now Thea remained silent as she contemplated her decision, that was until the captured pilot spoke up and made his demands. This wasn't what they needed right now but considering Harmon had brought him here rather than the Brig with the others suggested a motive for doing so. Still here was present but she wasn't about to pander to him either as she looked at him. " You'll get your deal but you're going to help us first" she replied, hoping he wouldn't cause any issues. Then it was time for her to give her orders as Niles called Shavan to the Bridge, knowing that she was likely to be hated for what she was about to say. " This is going to be the plan and I know its likely that some may disagree with it. However ultimately it comes down to finishing this mission and getting the information we need. So Commander Harmon, take our Pilot friend here & a small group from Security, plus Ms Sh'qaleq, I want the Cutthroat ready to go asap. Then we follow in the Medici almost like we've been captured and have the Mac rendezvous with us as planned once we have access to the Pirate hideout".Thea then waited for the inevitable questions and disagreements as she looked around at them all.

[Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Medci]
This is what happens when you put a doctor and an overly aggressive junior tactical officer in charge of a mission like this. Harmon pondered for a moment if them all getting killed was such a bad thing. At least he wouldn't have to put up with this sort of rubbish anymore. Was Niles deliberately misrepresenting his suggestion or was he just daft? "I'm not saying man them both, Mister Niles," he said in an aggressively polite and formal tone. Not to mention they hardly required the full complement to man either. "Duress codes or not, they're less likely to immediately attack their own compared with a merchant ship. Besides, I'm sure Sh'qaleq can deal with any issues with the codes." The Doc seemed to decide on some kind of compromise. At least splitting the crew meant there was a slightly higher half of them might get away and escape. Harmon for one was glad to be on board the better shielded and more manoeuvrable Cutthroat. At least the plan seemed better than showing up in the sitting duck that was the Medici and convincing them the raider somehow lost a fight to the hunk of junk Starfleet had stuck them with.
Then the pilot spoke up, apparently unaware of the fact he had very little bargaining power. "I said you would get a good deal. I said you might one day get to experience some life outside a cell eventually. We aren't putting anything into writing now. How good things are for you depend on how helpful you are."
