[ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, Converted Merchant Medici ]The detonation that blew the inner airlock doors was felt even on Medici's cramped Bridge. While his face showed little, there was tension around his eyes, and his knuckles were white as his fingers were curled around the edges of his console and holding on with a death grip. His gaze was fixed upon what passed for internal sensors, and the shrieking of weapons was carrying even through the surreptitiously armoured Bridge door. But when the shooting stopped, he felt his heart do the exact same, and for a moment he forgot to look at his sensors. He knew his ambitions were to achieve a command of his own, and he was flattered he'd been trusted with his current assignment, but to just be along for the ride, to not have his hands on the controls. Hell, in a way he might have preferred being in that hallway trading fire with the pirates than be there, safe and secure and completely out of the action loop. But then, the comms channel chirped, and Commander Harmon reported they had handled the boarders, and were moving on to the counter-boarding phase of the engagement. =M= "Very well, Mister Harmon. Good hunting and mind the doors and corners."=M= That's how they get you, he left unsaid as he gave the message. However, that was not all. The attack on Cutthroat would likely be fast and savage, and over in moments given the element of surprise, but it wouldn't hurt to have a follow-on wave. Who could he spare to take another team over on the heels of the security element? Himself? Unless given leave to go over, that was not his place. "Miss Henriksen, gather up a follow-on wave and make your way to Cutthroat. Your priority is to physically secure their computer core so they can't blow it."With that order given, he turned to the Andorian hacker. So far, she had been performing precisely as she had been expected to, but he needed to be sure things were going to work as to plan. "Miss Sh'qaleq, I need the contents of their databases. Kindly do not let them delete anything." [NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen & PO3 Roland L. Jenkins - Bridge, Medici -> Computer Core, Cutthroat]Mabel was slightly surprised to be asked to take the lead on a boarding operation. She knew how to file every report relating to one, but actually giving orders... that wasn't her wheelhouse at all. "Uh.. yes, sir," she accepted the order right away, and began to walk out. She speed-walked along the Medici, until she found a seemingly-idle crewmember. It was PO Jenkins, her assistant quartermaster and ship's cook. "Jenkins, we're taking the computer core. Can you come with?" she asked, having absorbed her boss's tendency not to give direct orders. "Yes, ma'am," Jenkins agreed, interpreting it as an order. If ever there was a duo that just screamed "B-team", this was it. Jenkins, slight and evidently concerned, wasn't exactly prime combat material, and Mabel, chubby and beset with an almost childlike enthusiasm, was incredibly out of place too. Naturally, they had to check a map to find it. "This model of ship has the computer core hidden under a floor panel in the communal showers," Mabel noted. Jenkins just shook his head. They found the showers rather quickly, thanks to the nasty smell. "It should be right here," Mabel pointed out a spot. "Jenkins, get that floor panel.""Yuck," Jenkins muttered as he lifted the panel, with Mabel covering him. These showers had a fungus growing in them, very clearly, and a scent of Yamok sauce too. With the panel gone, Mabel shone the mounted light of her phaser rifle into the now-exposed compartment that housed the core. "Freeze, suckers!" she shouted into the compartment, in case anyone was there. Then, she remembered this wasn't a game. These pirates were real people. "I'm sorry, that's rude. I'm Mabel, and you're being boarded. Now, freeze, suckers!" she corrected herself. Jenkins didn't know if to laugh or cry.

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Cutthroat] Now that the Medici was secure and the Raiders who boarded her taken into custody, Laurel was ready for the next part of the plan. So as Harmon led the way and checked in with the Bridge before calling for everyone to take their positions, the Lieutenant secured her weapon more tightly and took a deep breath as orders were given and the group began their counter boarding. " Acknowledged Commander" was her reply, as her group moved off in search of Engineering. Meeting very little resistance as they walked through the corridors of the pirate ship until they reached their destination. Once the doors were breached, Laurel quickly gave instructions as she looked towards Shavan. " Okay move in and get this secured" she called out, her voice audible for those around her, before entering, weapon held high as they started to secure as planned.
******************** [ Thea - Medici Bridge] Even though she was prepared for the possibility of Raiders getting through their small security force, it appeared that they were quickly taken care of as the Bridge remained safe, apart from the tell tale shudder of the ship being breached. So hearing Harmon's voice to confirm that, was definitely a moment to be proud of their training and drills. However she wasn't about to relax until they heard back from their team now preparing to board the Cutthroat. Although when Niles then continued to issue orders, including sending Mabel to secure the computer core along with a second team, before speaking to Kova. Thea looked at him for a moment, wondering why he hadn't deferred to her first. Yes she knew he was still young in terms of his career but he had essentially overrode her even if she agreed with the next steps. Mabel could definitely handle the assignment as she had proved to be an asset a few times now but she would need to serve a gentle reminder to her XO about who was the Skipper here. " Mr Niles, I agree with the next steps but just remember to defer to me first as I'm the Skipper here" she said politely and gently, before resuming her seat to wait on news from those who had been sent to the Pirate ship.

|Captain's Ready Room || lt.cmdr. Sven Aune |Sven entered. Judy was decked out in her Yankee's paraphernalia. She did love her team and she equally loved to show her colors. Sven had noticed the booing emanating from he holo projector. "Mayor of New York?" he inquired as he found a seat. "What did he do?" Sven didn't keep up with the politics of Earth much. Let alone a city. But the mayor must have done something unpopular. "Thanks for inviting me. I need something to take my mind off this mission." It was eating at him. These sorts of things have a way of going sideways. And fast. It was true the Niles wanted more responsibility, and acting as the XO of the Medici would be good experience, but bait.... Sven was used to getting in and doing things on his own. Boots on the ground. But now he was in command, and had to sit back and watch. It was hard for the inexperienced officer. And it showed on his face. Worry had been eating at him. "How's the family?" Sven decided not to think about it much and changed the subject in his mind. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams), Max Williams & Anna Eastman Williams - Captain's Ready Room, USS Mac]"We're all right, thank you," Anna answered on behalf of herself and her father. Judy's attention was drawn away momentarily by a ping on her PADD, with an alert from the bridge of the ship approaching the Medici. With her stylus, she quickly typed up a quick text-only message, and sent it directed to Dr. Baker, Lt. Niles, and Mabel: Good luck. We're standing by. -J.E.W. "It's not so much anything that Mayor Jenkins did, as the way New Yorkers are. Every time, we elect a mayor, and we fawn over them for a bit, and then suddenly we hate them. Usually, we get over it, but every mayor has that phase where they get booed at sports games," she explained New York City politics in brief. "Judy's mother[fn]Former Mayor Diane Eastman[/fn] got booed at the Opera once," Max recalled, drawing on an incident early in their marriage. "It made me very glad that Judy didn't go into politics.""I like the choices that I made," Judy agreed with Max's sentiment, as she leaned over to share a kiss with him. "Now, kiddos, keep a close eye on the pitcher," the XO transitioned to baseball talk, motioning at the holographic appearance of the player on the mound, a very youthful Bajoran in Solar Sailors garb. "That's Egi. He's their lefty specialist, a rookie, and he's quite good, but don't tell Saya I admitted that. Our guy at bat, DeNero..."Judy cut herself off as Egi threw and DeNero missed. "That's strike one," Anna noted, almost cheeky, and Judy rolled her eyes. On the third pitch, DeNero hit the ball and took off running with impressive speed.

"Looks like they have a new pitcher for the Sailors." he commented on the Bajorian who had a nasty curve ball. But then there was the iconic snap of wood and the ball flew off. "Yes!" [ NPC - Engineering, Pirate Raider Cutthroat ]The two members of Cutthroat's crew left in Engineering were in a near-state of panic. One of them was a Cardassian who once upon a time he had been fourth engineer on a fleet support ship; and his upwards career progression had been halted by a lack of patrons, and being part of a crew that had their ship crippled by the Maquis. And while he had been competent enough to not get dismissed from the service (or worse) he really had nowhere to go. But Dorvan was a true son of Cardassia, and when Gul Kosoter had sought out good men to follow him, he had seen his chance to get somewhere at long last, even if it would no longer be service to Cardassia. Not that the Cardassia he knew still existed... The other was proof that the universe had a perverse sense of humour, for she was Bajoran. But she hardly looked like she was there voluntarily, for she was emaciated and wore a less than pristine and oft-patch ship's jumpsuit that bore the patch of a merchant line... and there were shackles at her ankles; pirates did not generally have the benefit of being able to recruit the most qualified personnel, and sometimes, they had to impress some talent. So for Tel Shorna, that was how she had found herself on Cutthroat. As for why both were in a near state of panic, it was because as soon as the breach occurred they had lost much of their control over the ship's systems. Dorvan because he was the ship's chief engineer and it was his job; Shorna because she knew that if she didn't perform well, she would be at the very least starved and beaten some more... or tortured to death. She had seen it happen to another already and that had been plenty to convince her to do her best for her captors and she'd all but given up on any chance of rescue. But that had changed when the first detonations sounded from within the hull. And when the doors into Engineering flew open with a shower of sparks and calm and competent voice, the voice of a consummate Human professional, called for people to surge forward and secure Engineering, that hope found itself renewed. She had a hyperspanner in her hand, ready to open a panel to try and manually access power controls, and Dorvan, that sick bastard, had his back to her. He just had the time to turn around before the tool crashed on his head and he fell to the deck. To those boarders coming into Cutthroat's engineering, the spectacle that would greet them would be of a scrawny, dirty, emaciated shackled Bajoran female who'd be doing her damnedest to beat the Cardassian engineer into a pulp with wordless screams pouring from her throat.
[ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, Converted Merchant Medici ]And now that he'd dispatched Mabel to secure Cutthroat's computer core, Niles again found himself with nothing to do. He'd been mentally ticking off every step of the drills that had been practiced, the drills he and the Skipper had worked through and perfected given their unique set of circumstances... and that either could go through without the other if need be. And now he was back to waiting, and each heartbeat was feeling like an age. It felt as though they'd been at this for hours, but to the ship's clocks it had been fifty-six minutes since they had first detected the raider, and less than three since they had blown Medici's inner airlock door. Though, when the Skipper spoke to him, he looked down as, briefly, a bit of a sheepish smile showed on his face. Truth be told, he'd become so deeply focused on the execution of the task at had that to him the whole of the universe had shrunk to nothing but that particular operation, and he had been on a roll of making things move forward. "I... Ah... Aye, Skipper," he managed as his attention returned to something closer to the big picture. "Ma'am, if you don't mind my asking, is it always that difficult to sit on your hands and just let things happen?"

Tag: Joshua Niles , Shavan Th'zhaar , @tkarra, @theabaker [Adjacent Main Bridge, Cutthroat] The main corridor leading to the Cutthroat's bridge was deserted. A poorly maintained life support system hissed constantly, spewing mist all around the security team. As a consequence, the air was heavy with humidity and the sound provided them with white noise to cover their approach. As they stacked up on the door, T'Karra ignored the water beading down her face and looked back at Dak. She motioned for another stun grenade and he quietly slipped the palm sized silver device from his belt. He offered it to her with a hard look on his face that she was hard pressed to read. She turned and depressed the button on top, priming the device. With her left hand, she reached forward and squeezed the Lieutenant Commander's shoulder to signal him. They were ready.

[Bridge - Medici] From the moment Thea had issued orders and Aravis brought the ship to a full stop, the Skipper knew that the Raiders wouldn't waste precious time in exploring their prize and bringing everyone under their control. However they had plenty of surprises in store for their would be captors and now wasn't the time to just stand about. Still it felt as though time was acting strangely by speeding up then slowing down or perhaps that was just the adrenaline and knowing that all of their training was about to be put into practice. Whatever the reason, Thea was out of her chair and ready to defend the Bridge as the conversation went on around her, with people confirming plans, orders and updates, including Kova and Caorc, before the unmistakable sound of the Cutthroat began their boarding procedure, shaking the Freighter in the process. Biting back the need to curse them as K'Dex sent an acknowledgement that he was in place, followed by a slightly reluctant Kova who sounded as though Thea had grown an extra appendage. " Send a coded acknowledgement to Mr K'Dex, we don't want them to know where he is" she began, then knew what had to be done, now that the Raiders were about to gain entry. " Ms Sh'qaleq, go ahead and do what you need to do, let's see how they like to be messed with"." Everyone else, prepare to defend the Bridge".Yes she was a Healer but when it came down to it, Thea wasn't shy to use a phaser, especially when it came to defending her crew and the operation that they had been tasked to complete. [NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Bridge, Medici]During her time at the Academy, Mabel had been talked into training with a Type-3 phaser[fn]i.e. the big-boy rifles[/fn] as an elective course. Much to her - and everyone else's - surprise, she was... actually a decent shot, as long as she didn't have to run. She'd walked out of that class with PE credits and a B-. As such, Mabel stepped in as the last line of defense, kneeling by the door of the bridge, phaser rifle slung over her shoulder. "If they get past everyone else... they'll wish they hadn't," she muttered under her breath, trying to make herself think she was tough. The young woman knew that she was only here as a last resort, in case the trained security was somehow overwhelmed, but that was fine with her. Shooting a water gun or a paintball gun was one thing. Shooting a real gun at a dummy was okay too. Shooting real people with real weapons... that made her sensitive stomach churn a little. [ LT(JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge, Converted Merchant Medici ]The detonation that blew the inner airlock doors was felt even on Medici's cramped Bridge. "Ma'am, if you don't mind my asking, is it always that difficult to sit on your hands and just let things happen?" [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Bridge, Medici] Kova nodded as the Captain-Doctor gave her the order to 'do what she needs to do.' Essentially, she was asking the Andorian to save their collective pink-tushes yet again. Kova didn't waiver, yet fell straight into the task. Her fingers danced across her console even as she tried to edge out just a bit more elbow room at the expense of her neighboring counterpart while she worked. It seemed that things were still well in hand, though Kova didn't want to leave anything to chance. She buffed up her firewalls, just in case someone was saavy enough to put an actual dent in her defenses. There was still the matter of keeping them out of the Medici's computer banks. Though, Kova had firm control of their main systems and found herself beginning to tap into the Cutthroat's secondaries just incase they attempted to reroute those systems. Kova only spared a glance as Mabel made a comment about actually stating the should any unsavory types approach the Bridge, that they'd be sorry. Kova shook her head. Such a poor delusional girl. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to just shoot her in the back and put her out of her misery should someone rush the bridge. At least she could die with a shred of dignity. Of course, it seemed that their first officer thought it better to send her right in the midst of harm's way. Kova certainly wanted to question the order, but wondered why no one else had. Perhaps this was how they were planning to thin the herd. The Captain Doctor thought it best to reassert her dominance, pointing out with a bit of subtlety that she was the one calling the shots. Niles reeled it in a bit, feigning actual innocence, as if he'd just been caught up in the moment. He knew quite well what he'd been doing. He probably wanted command of the entire vessel. Kova began to wonder just how deeply they'd fall into their roles? Would they shed blood of the captaincy of this bucket of bolts? Unlikely. Those Starfleet ideals were typically embedded rather deeply. "There's some mild resistance, but... I've actually been leading them in loop of their systems for the past thirty seconds," Kova reported. "They probably sent their computer expert here to infiltrate our systems directly." Good luck with that. Anyone would find that to be a task much easier said than done. Kova awaited additional orders, but was tempted to start a game of Solitaire.

Or, well... stun or be killed. This wasn't paintball, it wasn't target practice, it wasn't an exercise - this was real combat. She had to pull the trigger on a living being. Trembling as she did it, she fired, a single blast in a high-stun setting. Mabel was thankful, immensely thankful, for the ability to stun rather than kill. Unlike this Klingon, she didn't have the guts to actually take a life. "I'm sorry," she whispered, to the Klingon she had just shot, as she watched to see whether she had hit. Jenkins wasn't sure what was more surprising: the sudden disappearance of Mabel's bluster, or the fact that she'd actually fired a shot.

[ Thea - Medici Bridge] If there was one thing Thea didn't like was to pull rank, but when the occasion called for it, then she had no problem in doing so, especially given the tense waiting game that they were now playing. So far everything had gone to plan, just like their drills and run throughs leading up to this moment, but even Thea wasn't naïve in case something changed. That's why she couldn't afford to have Niles take over, whether it be intentional or not. When her XO realised and changed what he was going to say to acknowledge her, Thea hoped that this would be the end of it, as he then asked if it was always this difficult to just sit and let things happen. " Yes it can be, you have to trust your team and not assume anything, just because we practiced it over and over. You soon learn that things can change quickly and always follow the chain of command" she replied honestly, knowing what her answer would be as it wasn't the first time that she had been asked that question. The Skipper's attention then moved to Kova as their systems expert and consultant, gave an update on infiltrating the Cutthroat's systems. She may not know Kova that well but was certainly impressed with her skills and she was definitely an asset to the mission. " Excellent and it's likely that they did" Thea responded, understanding the impact that would of had, if they hadn't of sent their computer expert over but had faith that Kova could of handled it if the raiders hadn't been so over confident. " Keep us updated, Ms Sh'qaleq, once Miss Henriksen secures the computer core, begin the data transfer for all and any useful information, I'll leave it up to you to leave no trace that we were responsible".Then it was back to waiting for news from their team, before they could implement the next stage of the mission. ********************** M'Kana - Cutthroat, Computer Core] How dare this Peta'Q think that they could dishonour her in this way and as M'Kana launched herself in order to bring an end to this deception. The Half Klingon roared before surprise took over, silencing the Pirate as the beam struck her and crumpled to the floor, the bat'leth clattering to a halt next to the innate form of the warrior determined to bring as much pain as possible to the traitors.

[ NPC - Engineering, Pirate Raider Cutthroat ]The two members of Cutthroat's crew left in Engineering were in a near-state of panic. [LT(JG) Shavan Th’zhaar - Engineering, Cutthroat] Shavan nodded in acknowledgement to Lt. Andrews before slipping through the door to Cutthroats’ main engineering. He kept his weapon raised and instinctively aimed at the first sign of movement. Quickly he took in the scene in front of him; the bloody Cardassian engineer and his emaciated, shackled assailant. A slave. A cold hatred towards the Scalpers swept over Shavan. He had seen enough of that on his own homeworld. But that didn’t mean she was on their side. “Hands in the air and step away. Now.” he called out to the Bajoran. While the rest of the team finished securing the area, he crossed the small space to the computer console, momentarily keeping his weapon trained on the pair. When he reached the controls, and it was clear that the Cardassian was not getting up, he lowered it so as not to frighten her more. Shavan then quickly set to work accessing the computer and verifying that the systems were under the Medici’s control and hadn’t been sabotaged or accessed manually. “Engineering systems are secure. They’re locked out of all controls.”

"T'Karra, Karavet, Dak, Ma, you're with me, we're taking the Bridge. Andrews, Th'zhaar, and the rest of you, you're securing engineering," he stated. "Prepare to breach. Dak, Kerissa, stun grenades." Everyone quickly moved into positions and awaited his order. "Breach!" [Adjacent Main Bridge, Cutthroat] The main corridor leading to the Cutthroat's bridge was deserted. [Matthew Harmon - Bridge, Cutthroat]
Harmon moved into position to take point along with the rest of his fireteam. T'Karra grabbed his shoulder indicating she was ready. He took a deep breath and then gave the order. "Breach, breach, breach!" as T'Karra's stun grenade went off the three occupants, two Cardassians and an Andorian were dazed by the bright flash and loud bang. The Andorian was shaken and failed to act. After a moment one of the Cardassians seemed to reach for a weapon but was stunned by Crewman Dak, the other was stuck in the middle of the room, unable to take cover in time and still dazed. "Hands in the air now!" he said pointing his rifle at the conscious Cardassian as his team moved into position and did the same for the Andorian. "Show me your hands!" called Ma.
Once things calmed down and the two pirates realised it was over and there was nothing more they could do, Harmon lowered his weapon and approached the Cardassian, who appeared to be the ship's captain. Karavet trained his weapon on the Cardassian to make sure she didn't try anything as Harmon got closer. The captain was clearly incensed but also appeared to be somewhat embarrassed, humiliated even at her defeat. "Look at me. I am the captain now," he declared. "This ship is now property of the United Federation of Planets. You will be detained and arrested on charges relating to piracy. If you cooperate with us you may receive more lenient sentences. Do you understand me?"

Judith Eastman [NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen & PO3 Roland L. Jenkins - Computer Core, Cutthroat]Just like that, it was done. Mabel took a deep breath, and then another. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out. It was over. She'd done it. She'd accomplished the mission. And she'd shot a person. "Jenkins, keep watch," she ordered her fellow boarder. "Yes, ma'am," he answered, stepping towards the door to the showers. He didn't mind facing the other way, especially if Mabel's stomach was about to do its thing. And Mabel, between the gross smell of the room and the events that had transpired, seemed liable to regurgitate her breakfast. Finally calm enough, she reported in. =A= "Henriksen to Medici. We've secured the computer core. We're all right, but we have one prisoner. She's stunned, but we don't have restraints. The core seems fine," =A= she reported.

|Ready Room || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune|Sven nodded as Judy and Max spoke. He supposed that Judy would have done well in politics, but he was glad that she was in Starfleet, and his mentor. Given they did have differning view points on many things, the nice thing was, they both knew that they would always listen and consider each other. Perhaps that was something Sven learned as a side effect from an abusive father. Or maybe that was his own dispostion. The groaned as the rookie missed the hit. "Looks like they have a new pitcher for the Sailors." he commented on the Bajorian who had a nasty curve ball. But then there was the iconic snap of wood and the ball flew off. "Yes!" Sven said happily. Though, he couldn't keep his mind off the Medici. "Judy?" he asked politly. He didn't want to talk work, but not being there was eating him up. How can command sit back and trust the job will be done? Tag Judith Eastman [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams), Max Williams & Anna Eastman Williams - Captain's Ready Room, USS Mac]Judy knew worry when she heard it, and she was hearing it in Sven's voice right now. She had a solid guess why, but she didn't want to presume. "What's on your mind, Sven?" she asked Sven, looking up from the game to look at him, effortlessly moving from passionate sports fan to concerned mentor. Max, seated beside Judy, also looked moderately concerned, mirroring his wife's focused, empathetic look. With her chair slightly taller than his, their heads were even at about the same level. Anna was half-focused on the brewing adult conversation, half on the game.
Tag Sven Aune |Ready room || lt. cmdr. Sven Aune|Sven fidgeted with fingers for a moment, then gazed a Judy with a sigh. "I'm not sure. I've been a boots on the ground kind of guy. In the action being told what to do, and doing it. And now." he glanced about. "Now, I'm here, and I have people on that ship I'm responsible for, and there is nothing I can do to step in and fix anything."He glanced back at the holo-projector. "I didn't mean to rain on this game."

[Bridge, Cutthroat] Though violence was considered detestable to her people, T'Karra understood its necessity. There were many cultures that willingly, illogically chose brutality and anarchy over peace and order. Her own experience had taught her as much but it offered little answers as to why they made such choices. She had trained for the better part of her adult life to confront these threats. It was crucial for maintaining the tenuous peace in their quadrant of the galaxy and their tactics, operations, and strategies were easier to understand than their philosophical motives. Still, she found herself having to push down the feeling of discomfort at having used violence to gain control of the situation. Under Dak's cover, T'Karra secured the unconscious Cardassian in hand restraints. His face was gaunt and littered with scars from previous engagements. Patting him down for weapons revealed that he was startlingly thin and underweight. Despite being moderately successful in their piracy endeavors, some of them were clearly struggling to get by. Why commit to this willingly? Lieutenant Commander Harmon's comment interrupted her introspection as she finished up her search. Her brows furrowed slightly in confusion. She had been unaware of any field promotions. Deciding that it was of little consequence at the moment, she left her troubling thoughts behind and moved on to help Dak secure the Andorian.
