[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Everything seemed to be going rather well so far. There had been a few spikes in tension, but everyone remained on their best behavior. A few glances had been cast her way, primarily by the Commanding and Senior officers present, and Jovireh sighed softly to herself. Looks like she wouldn't be able to get away with standing in the corner by herself all night. Time to go mingle. If... there were anyone available to mingle with. The more sociable of the crew present had swooped on the Talorian delegation like a flock of crows to a pile of gems, and the less sociable crew members were naturally drawn to those they already knew. She hated joining conversations without an invitation. Perhaps she'd luck out and more people would arrive soon. A server approached with a tray bearing glasses of champagne, one of which Jovireh accepted graciously. As the server walked away once more, she lifted the glass to her lips for a small sip, and immediately regretted it. The severe taste assaulted her tongue, and she swiftly turned her head to the side in attempts to hide the grimace. She'd forgotten just how much she hated champagne. It was one human custom that she would never be able to understand - the insistence on champagne always being the drink of choice for any sort of celebration. There were plenty of other wines that were equally elegant and far more palatable, even a few "sparkling" varieties if it was the carbonation they were drawn to. She would have to see if there were any other options available after she finished this glass. If she were able to finish this glass.
Soft tags everyone [Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"You are too close to the Primary. Remove yourself immediately."A flicker of concern passed over Kaelpra's face as the hefty, empty-headed bodyguard spoke his unnecessary orders to the lone female who had moved a little too close for his professional comfort. Kaelpra held up a hand to refuse a steward's offer of the strange drink, and then clasped both arms behind his back. Smoothly, the slight Talorian approached the pair. He came to a stop behind the much larger form of L'Sho's protector, and made a gurgling noise in the back of his throat. That got his attention. "Remember your place. Remove yourself.""This sroc is too close."Kaelpra narrowed a pair of softly glowing eyes, and gestured with sharp inclination of his head toward L'Sho, who had been ambushed by Charlie Fox. "That reporter sroc is too close. Leave and take care of it."With a look that suggested the bodyguard might rather remove Kaelpra's head from his neck instead, he growled. The stare-down was short lived however, with the bigger Talorian eventually conceding and backing off. Kaelpra managed to suppress a sigh. "My sincere apologies," he said to Jovireh, "Tensions are high, as I am sure you are more than aware." His smile was soft, thoughtful, as he turned his attention toward the crewman. "I am Kaelpra, diplomatic advisor to Primary L'Sho. I am pleased to make your acquaintance." He gave her a small bow.

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] It took a moment for Jovireh to realize the gruff voice barking orders was directed at her. She turned to find herself staring up at a rather large block of a Talorian, whom seemed none too pleased with her presence. He was clearly a bodyguard, and for obvious reasons. Habitually setting her glass down on the nearest ledge to free her hands, she opened her mouth to explain she had the same job he did. She was spared the trouble, however, as another - smaller - Talorian caught the attention of the first and sent him away. Straight over to Charlie, who actually was standing close to the Primary. A brief moment of panic flicked through her as she tried to think of a way to discreetly alert the reporter, but calling her name would only attract the attention of the entire room. She would just have to keep an eye out and hope Charlie heeded the warning. Provided the body guard even gave one. Her gaze flicked back to the one who remained beside her, returning his smile with one of her own. "It's quite alright, it's rather common for people to try and intimidate me. Perk of the job." Listening intently as he introduced himself, she also gave a slight bow, assuming it was the appropriate greeting for his culture. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kaelpra," she replied, taking care to ensure she pronounced his name properly. "I'm Crewman Jovireh Velal, Starfleet security. I hope you're enjoying the festivities so far."

[ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac ]However, a quick look about got him to see Ensign Volante, one of the more recent additions to the crew, and he made his way towards her, though he did flag a steward to kindly fetch him a thoroughly synthehol Old Fashioned in the process. As he neared the clearly uncomfortable Ensign, another steward intercepted him with his drink, which he graciously accept, and with his free hand he tugged his jacket down. He was not sure himself where the issue was, but its tendency to ride up was most aggravating. "Miss Volante. I see you are enjoying yourself." [Ens. Niles was approaching her, causing her to jolt slightly when her name was mentioned, "Ah! Erm. Hello Lieutenant..." She paused as her brain fired through the names she had been trying to remember properly, "Niles!" She straightened up properly, causing her uniform to ride up with her and undo all the progress she had made, "Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a good fight, but I fear this is a losing battle. Bested by fabric it seems." She replaced her smile proper, "I believe this is our first time properly meeting. Ensign Phoebe Volante, fresh from the academy, I look forward to working with you." She held out her hand and beamed her smile forward, "Now, two questions. One, who the best tailor on the station? I really need to pay them a visit when we get back. And two, why is everyone so... Hostile, towards the Talorians? From what I read the last time they were encountered it went less than swimmingly. However the details weren't available to me, possibly due to my rank or simply being so new." Joshua Niles

[Primary L'Sho - Ten Forward, USS Mac] "Primary L'Sho," came an equally grating voice, "Charlie Fox, Federation News Network."His eyes, glowing with displeasure, slid to the side as the human sidled up next to him, glass of ordure in her own hand. "Charlie Fox. My staff have become quite accustomed to the sound of your appalling voice."~~~ [Charlie Fox - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"Shame I can't return the compliment," Charlie responded smoothly with a slight incline of her head, "They don't seem to want to speak with me anymore. I do hope I haven't done anything to upset them."If L'Sho thought his rudeness would scare her off, he had another thing coming. One corner of his mouth twitched ever-so-slightly upwards at her words, and her brow arched with surprise at the reaction. Was he amused? "After your article reached us, I had our media outlets demonise you. It is said that your preference for laying with beasts has deranged your mind."Amused, indeed. [ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] [...] " As ready as I'll ever be and I suppose we should go say hello to L'Sho and Charlie, but first a drink is definitely needed".There was no hesitation as she took two flutes of Champagne from a passing server and handed one to Isaiah. [Ten Forward - USS Mac] [...] As she entered the room, she immediately spotted LT. Comm. Baker and Lt. Quinn, she politely bowed her head and beamed her smile at them as she passed by. Phoebe scanned the crowd and caught glimse of Primary L'Sho. The report she had managed to glance over when she got time said he had a tactical and strategic mind, perhaps talking to him about such things would offset her general social ineptitude. As she walked across the room to introduce her self, she saw Charlie strike up a conversation with him. Phoebe did a sudden left turn on the spot and headed for a quieter part of the room, abandoning all hope of social interaction. 'At least this way I can focus more on spotting dangers, I guess.' She attempted to console herself with the silver lining of the situatuion. [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac ][...] However, a quick look about got him to see Ensign Volante, one of the more recent additions to the crew, and he made his way towards her, though he did flag a steward to kindly fetch him a thoroughly synthehol Old Fashioned in the process. As he neared the clearly uncomfortable Ensign, another steward intercepted him with his drink, which he graciously accept, and with his free hand he tugged his jacket down. He was not sure himself where the issue was, but its tendency to ride up was most aggravating. "Miss Volante. I see you are enjoying yourself." [ Commodore Calvin Perry - USS Mac - Ten Forward] Perry was running just a few minutes behind arriving at the reception. He hadn't been thrilled - no, more than that - he'd been horrified that the Mac were being forced to ferry the Talorians to this meeting with the Federation. He'd fought tooth and nail for it to not be them, but in the end, the admiral had, in so many words, told him to shut up and do the job. So the Commodore took a bracing breath as he stood outside Ten Forward for a moment before stepping close enough to trigger the doors. A glance around told Perry that the staff had done its usual amazing job setting up the lounge for the reception. Their guests, ahem, were present, as well as a number of the officers. He tugged his dress uniform tunic down and approached Thea and Isaiah. The CMO did such a phenomenal job of running things most of the time, Perry felt a bit superfluous, but this sort of diplomatic thing required all hands on deck, best foot forward and all that. Doctor, Lt. Commander, Perry greeted. How did the tour go? Are our guests causing any problems? And even more, are the crew causing any problems? I hate having so many here who were involved in the Jupiter Star disaster, he said quietly. [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] Isaiah could only imagine the stress of the day that Thea had endured. As if tending to the crew's health wasn't enough, she often found herself labored with these duties as well. He was glad that he was able to lift her spirits with his presence alone. It was certainly a mutuality in their relationship. He then heard her comment upon greeting Primary L'Sho and Charlie Fox. His eyes turned to scan the room and fall upon what she had clearly seen. "Well, right in the deep end, huh?" he asked rhetorically. For better or worse, Charlie's voice had certainly been one of the Federation as it had deplored the actions of the Talorians, or at least of Princess Orya and her band of followers. Though, it certainly hadn't gone out of its way to absolve the rest. And to have her there face-to-face with L'Sho himself was possibly a recipe for disaster. Instinctively, Isaiah's eyes glanced around the rest of the room for potential fires that may need to be put out. He first noticed Crewman Jovireh Velal. He hadn't had the pleasure of meeting her personally, though anyone of Romulan heritage tended to be more popular than they cared to be. For the time being, she seemed to be lingering off alone. There wasn't anything wrong with that, and working Security, he could understand the desire to be undistracted. He only hoped she didn't remain too distanced. Next, his eyes fell upon Lt. Niles and Ensign Volante. Ensign Volante had certainly made an impression upon him on Kerelia. Still, Isaiah saw it as her being passionate about her job. It wasn't something he held against her. As for the company she was keeping for the evening, well, Mr. Niles had been rather vocal about how he felt about the Talorians after the Jupiter Star Massacre. Still, he was a professional and seemed to be avoiding exacerbating a potentially volatile situation. Perhaps it would be best if he managed to keep his distance for most of the evening. His eyes centered back upon Charlie and L'Sho. They both appeared to be playing nice for now, but how long would that last? Isaiah would like to think that Miss Fox was a friend. They certainly hadn't formalized any sort of friendship. However, they had experienced the witnessed the horrors of the Jupiter Star and shared a fervent dislike of Kerelia. That only added to his agreement with Theta to defuse a possibly volatile situation. Of course, that would have to wait as Commodore Perry arrived. He greeted Thea... and him as well. Isaiah didn't call much attention to the mention of rank (unless there was something else he didn't know.) Besides, he still hadn't had the chance to get to know Commodore Perry too well. It wasn't uncommon for commanders to keep to themselves. And Perry had always seemed the sort comfortable delegating responsibilities to his crew when he could. There was nothing wrong with that, merely the man's style of command. "Good evening, sir," Isaiah replied simply. He then listened as he asked basically for the status of the room and if everyone was still playing nice for the most part. "Actually sir," Isaiah paused a moment as he entertained how to address Thea in the Commodore's presence, "Doctor Baker and I were just about to extend our personal greetings to Primary L'Sho and Miss Fox." Isaiah was rather confident that Perry would understand exactly what he had meant.

It may appear foolish to some but for the Acting XO it was a case of exchanging pleasantries now and not be accused of ignoring all of the Talorian delegation. However her attention moved briefly towards Ensign Volante, looking as uncomfortable as she felt in the not very practical dress uniforms as the junior officer acknowledged her and Isaiah. If time permitted Thea intended to catch up with Phoebe, especially as she found herself a spot away from everyone. Although she wasn't alone for long as Niles approached and engaged her in conversation, before Isaiah spoke to her and her Boyfriend wasn't wrong about diving into the proverbial deep end with her suggestion of conversation partner. " Yes, might as well get it over with rather than leave it to later".Thea then steeled herself and took a deep breath as she prepared to lead the way over to L'Sho and Charlie. That's until Commodore Perry approached her and Isaiah, addressing them both apart from a slight mistake with Isaiah's rank, before asking questions about the delegation and the crew. His tone may be quiet but Thea knew that Perry hadn't been happy about their mission. Appreciating Isaiah's use of Doctor as he answered Perry and mentioned what they intended to do. " Yes we thought it best to extend our greetings now, as for the tour it went well as did the briefing" Thea replied then added. " So far there's been no problems with either the delegation or the crew, well unless you count Lieutenant Niles' slight reluctance to be at the reception, but I understand the sensitivity around our previous encounter with the Talorians".
tag Admin Isaiah Quinn [ Commodore Calvin Perry - Ten Forward] Perry took a closer look at the Primary and the reporter. Yes, that was a potentially explosive combination. With a sigh he said, Yes, I suppose I'd best get over there and offer my greetings. As the commodore started to cross the room, he caught sight of Quinn's pips and raised his eyes to the ceiling. Three months here and he was misremembering ranks still. It wasn't his first gaffe, though it was the first time he'd done so to a crew member's face, as far as he knew. Now the question was whether he should apologize, especially since he'd gone over, or if it was better to leave it be. Maybe it would just be best to make sure to address the man by the correct rank from now on. Yes, that was a good course. So Perry approached the Talorian, mentally preparing himself to be polite and keep his feelings to himself. Ms. Fox, he greeted quietly as he stopped a few feet away. Perry nodded to the security officer as well. Premier L'Sho, I'm Commodore Perry. Welcome aboard. It was the most neutral greeting he could manage.

He was a highly-trained, professional officer, he would not stoop to the level of an insignificant insect. "Not everyone is comfortable with manslaughter, Primary." She was, of course, referring to his willingness to watch their "beloved Princess" die from afar, and blame Starfleet for it. It was the Talorian's turn to avoid her stare, so Charlie found hers fixing on Joshua Niles as he joined Volante in a sociable chat. She hadn't seen him properly since the Jupiter Star mission, the very one that had introduced the Talorians into their lives. She wondered how he was holding up. As soon as she felt the heavy hand on her arm, she spun to turn a questioning stare at the man wielding it. "You are too close to the Primary. "You'll remove my foot from your blue bollocks!"L'Sho held up a hand. "Enough, Derk't. She is of no consequence." From the amount of little buttons on the approaching man's collar, Primary L'Sho knew him to be of the highest rank in the room. It just would not do for such displays of aggression quite yet. Obediently, the bodyguard released Charlie Fox and took a half-step backward. She could feel him at her back, far too close, so she stepped further away in response and gave a nod in greeting to Perry. "Good evening, Commodore."L'Sho did not deign to correct the man's misuse of his title. Instead he inclined his head in the very slightest of bows. "The last time we spoke was with destruction in mind. It pleases me to be able to speak with truce instead, Captain Perry."

He had guessed by her comments that she too must be some sort of security personnel, and then nodded in understanding when she introduced herself and confirmed her rank and department. He had spent the weeks leading up to this event learning everything he could about the structure of Starfleet, not just for tactical reasons, but out of a keen curiosity, too. He took a moment to consider her question. He recognised it as something asked in many cultures out of politeness, but he felt that in the interest of getting to know each other, he could be somewhat honest with Jovireh Velal. "I am finding it very informative," Kaelpra said, his expression back to thoughtful, which seemed his default. "I am learning much about the species that comprise the Federation, and what they like to eat and drink." He unclasped his hands from behind his back to gesture toward the strange drink that his new companion, and many others present, were holding. "I do think that perhaps next time I might advise my people to wear some manner of foot coverings." His webbed toes wriggled, digging into Ten Forward's plush carpet. "And are you enjoying yourself, Crewman Velal?"

"The last time we spoke was with destruction in mind. It pleases me to be able to speak with truce instead, Captain Perry." [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] It didn't take long for Commodore Perry to fall into agreement that it was likely best to intervene in the meeting of Charlie Fox and L'Sho. And it seemed that it didn't take long for things to descend. Isaiah couldn't quite make out what was being said, but he was pretty sure it wasn't an exchange of pleasantries. It was then that L'Sho's body guard inserted himself into the equation. "Oh boy," Isaiah said simply. Commodore Perry began to make his way towards the gathering first. "Best back him up." It was simply an assumption, but Isaiah began to move in that direction as well, confident that Thea was close by. As he arrived, he caught the tail end of an exchange of greetings between Perry and L'Sho, both seemingly just missing the cue on the other's correct title. Isaiah wasn't sure if it was intentional or not. However, he was hoping to do what he he could to help diffuse the situation. He nodded in Charlie's direction, with a slight nod and smile. He was curious how she was doing, but posing the question aloud could likely serve as an insult towards L'Sho and that was something Isaiah didn't want to risk. "Primary L'Sho, I don't believe I've had the honor. I'm Lt. Isaiah Quinn, Chief of Science. I'm sure you've already met Lt. Commander Baker," Isaiah said. While he was rather certain that his diplomatic greeting didn't sit will with everyone, Charlie in particular, it was what the uniform demanded. Besides, they were looking to make peace with these people. For whatever reason, the Federation's diplomats thought they were at a point to move forward. It was their duty to do just that.

When the Ensign spoke of the sartorial engagement she was in the process of losing, Niles brought his glass to his lips as to hide a momentary smile. Despite the presence of the Talorians not just on his ship but his being forced to be in their immediate vicinity, that was certainly at least somewhat amusing. "Likewise, Ensign," he responded quietly. They both clearly knew who the other was, if only by sight, but they'd yet to formally meet. But then again, he was mostly working on the Bridge, or with the crews in the various weapons bays, than with most of Security so he was not as exposed to everyone within the department as he could be. "As for your first question, I have no idea. Mine was tailored back on Earth before leaving here and it fit perfectly when he was done... I swear subspace does something weird to dress whites, it's the only reason those uniforms never feel right."However, her second question was one that was, well, touchy all right especially with the current company, and it was a particularly unpleasant topic for him, to the point that, briefly, his eyes shone with a haunted light, immediately followed by a cold, vicious flame, before becoming neutral yet again as he took another sip from his drink. "Honestly, I don't know what information was made available to you about the Talorians. I expect you didn't view the reports of the events surrounding the Jupiter Star. Now, I really don't want to go too much in depth with that, because for one thing I don't want to is to put those images back into my head if I can avoid it, and I really advise you skip over the pictures. The Coles Notes? Turns out Talorians, including a member of their royal family, attacked the Jupiter Star; the working theory is they were religious extremists, though we considered it an act of murder and piracy. We tracked down their ship, which then engaged us. We disabled them, and when we came to pick up their survivors, the good Primary and an armada let their presence be known and ordered us to withdraw without being able to take the crew into custody. And then, the Talorians accused us of assassinating their princess, when we weren't even able to ascertain whether she'd been killed in the initial exchange of fire, was a survivor on her ship, or in an escape pod; we simply were not able to perform any rescue operations. I was on the boarding party that went onto the Jupiter Star, and I was at Tactical when we ran them down."Though he spoke matter-of-factly, it would hardly take a Betazoid to know that there was indeed a great deal of dislike for the Talorians within the Tactical Officer, even if his face showed very little of it.

[ PO1 Kaya Som | Ten Forward ]"Ahoy, Sir Doug," Kaya said, genuinely pleased to see the strange El-Aurian. She still wasn't sure what he did here but he brought a useful and merry pastel chaos to any affair. "That's interesting, because seventy-five is my price to deck Niles," she said with a thoughtful smile just loud enough for the two of them. She tapped her chin. "Hmm." Dugris Zaman [Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Ten Forward]Sir Doug chuckled perhaps a little louder than he should have, all the while grabbing a flute of champagne. "I'd keep my distance from Niles if I were you, or them," he advised, keeping discreetly quiet this time. But of course, he was El-Aurian, and realized there was some history to her statement. "Were you two..." he asked, nosy as ever. It would be surprising, but not that surprising.

[ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] Judging by the sigh and slight reluctance from the Commodore at the mention of going over to Supreme Commander and Charlie, wasn't going to be the highlight of his evening. Not that she blamed Perry considering he had bore the brunt of Command following the news that they would be the ones to ensure that the Talorian's reached the talks without another diplomatic incident. Perhaps that's why Perry had been somewhat distracted when he had called Isaiah by the wrong rank. Whatever the reason, Thea knew that she couldn't put off, greeting L'Sho any longer, especially as Perry went over first, just as the one named Derk't had already tried to intervene and stop anyone from getting to close to L'Sho. Having been in the Bodyguard's company during the tour, she was in full agreement as Isaiah suggested that they go back Perry up. " I agree, we don't want him to get on the wrong side of Derk't" she replied quietly as she then followed her boyfriend. As they reached the small group that had gathered around L'Sho, it appeared that the conversation starter, hadn't gone down to well. Although it was good to see Kaelpra engage with Velal as Isaiah spoke to L'Sho and introduced himself and Thea. " Primary L'Sho, Ms Fox" Thea said, greeting the pair whilst silently wishing that she had gone for something a little stronger than Champagne. However hoped that her and Isaiah's presence would go some way to diffuse any potential tension. ***************************
[ Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10] As tempting as it was to continue drinking in her assigned quarters, it wouldn't of looked good for her or her advisors, if she hadn't made an appearance at the reception. No she didn't want L'Sho to think that his presence would intimidate her and to prove that she wasn't like all Chu'pra, had gone without foot coverings, preferring to walk barefoot and have all eyes on her chosen outfit. Of course she could of gone completely nude but after some careful consideration and advice from He'tak, her main advisor had decided against it. No that time would come, when she took her rightful place but for now, walked behind Ostat and Lesal her chosen guards. This was in accordance to protocol, as the two burly and semi clothed men entered the lounge first. Then once the all clear was given, Elana followed along with her two advisors and assistants. Her dress flowing as she walked and engaged those in the room with a simple look.

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Jovireh held up her hands in a placating gesture as Kaelpra mentioned the food and drink available. "Please don't judge us all by the humans' poor tastes!" she laughed. Glancing down at his webbed feet when he spoke about coverings, she pondered for a moment. "I imagine feet coverings are rather uncomfortable. Perhaps instead we can suggest a slight raise in ambient temperature? Unless I'm misunderstanding the problem..."Before she could take another guess, Charlie's raised voice grabbed her attention. Instinctively she moved to step around the diplomatic advisor, but stopped when she saw the Primary dismissed his bodyguard. It seemed everyone felt the large man was being a little gun-ho. As the Commodore and other senior officers approached the small group, Jovireh relaxed just enough to feel another spike in tension and anger, this time from across the room. Her eyes landed on Niles and Volante, whom seemed content to stay in their own conversation. Good... He could be angry all he wanted so long as he kept it directed away from their guests. Relaxing once more, she turned back to Kaelpra with a sincere smile. "I apologize, I don't mean to be rude. Those tensions you mentioned can be a bit distracting..." It only took a moment to regain her train of thought, thankfully. "I'm not really much of a formal or social person, so I'm not normally fond of gatherings such as this. However I do love learning about other cultures, so the opportunity to talk to you has made it all worth while." A mischievous glint flickered in her eyes as a thought came to her. "What type of food and drink do you prefer? I'm sure we can find something that suites both our tastes a bit better..."Her attention was pulled away once more, this time towards the entrance, as two Talorians of similar stature to L'Sho's bodyguard entered the room. Hopefully they were a bit more reserved about when to interfere... They stepped aside, revealing a woman so elegant Jovireh could only assume she was the Princess. Her posture shifted subconsciously to stand more at attention. Once more she glanced back over at Kaelpra and gave him a nod. "Unless you now have other duties to attend to..."

Her posture shifted subconsciously to stand more at attention. Once more she glanced back over at Kaelpra and gave him a nod. "Unless you now have other duties to attend to..." [Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"Oh, you understand quite correctly," he hastened to assure, his eyes flickering down toward his bare feet for a moment as he nodded. "Perhaps some added warmth in our living quarters and the places where we gather alone would be pleasant, though I believe that the temperature here is set with many species in mind, and I would not want to suggest that our comfort should come at the expense of others."Naturally, his attention was also drawn to the exchange between the Primary, the bodyguard and the reporter. He noted that Jovireh Velal had begun to move to intercept almost as soon as the raised voices reached them, and he watched the short scene unfold with some interest. He seemed pleased that L'Sho had the good graces to deescalate the situation immediately. In truth, he should be by the Primary's side, ready to advise and fill in the gaps of his superior's knowledge, but he had been dismissed by L'Sho himself, for what reason, Kaelpra could not fathom. Sometimes the Primary was like a blank stone face - unreadable. "Luckily for me, my duties this evening include only to learn," Kaelpra answered when his new acquaintance seemed to offer her assistance with finding them something appetising. "I believe I shall leave the posturing to those who cut a more impressive figure." He began to move toward one of the heavily-laden buffet tables, but stalled long enough to ensure Jovireh Velal would be joining him. He then answered the question she'd posed previously. "Talorians are an aquatic species in origin, and so as you might imagine, we consume quite a lot of meat from bodies of water. Let'ki is a particular delicacy we would serve at an event such as this; they are a long, slimy sea creature, boiled for two minutes and served with garal, which I believe resembles Earth's kelp. To drink, one might have a mug of mart'k'tep, which is the seasoned and spiced blood of the mart'k beast." His gaze scanned across the contents of the table, seeing nothing similar, though knowing that outward appearance often had no bearing on taste. "What of you, Crewman Velal? Tell me of your people's favourites!"

[ Commodore Calvin Perry - Ten Forward] Perry took a closer look at the Primary and the reporter. [Primary L'Sho & Charlie Fox - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"At least I'm getting laid," Charlie said with a grin, her eyes lingering on the interesting shade of pink the Talorian's horns and the tips of his ears were. She took a sip of her champagne, her expression suddenly quite smug. Primary L'Sho barely reacted. He was a highly-trained, professional officer, he would not stoop to the level of an insignificant insect. It was difficult, however, for him to ignore the opportunity the uniformed female who very obviously avoided their company presented. "A fan of yours?" He asked the reporter smoothly as Phoebe Volante took off in the opposite direction like she'd just seen something particularly gross. "Or yours." Charlie followed the woman's progress across Ten Forward and thought that she should probably feel a little browned off that it was Volante who got to do the avoiding. I will remove you immediately."Charlie, with her fist clenched, tried to wrench herself from the big Talorian bodyguard's iron grip.
Tag: Admin (Perry) ~~~ [USS Mac, Ten Forward] It took a moment for Jovireh to realize the gruff voice barking orders was directed at her. I hope you're enjoying the festivities so far." [Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]Kaelpra smiled in response to her correct pronunciation of his name, obviously pleased.

" So far there's been no problems with either the delegation or the crew, well unless you count Lieutenant Niles' slight reluctance to be at the reception, but I understand the sensitivity around our previous encounter with the Talorians".[Commodore Calvin Perry - Ten Forward] Perry took a closer look at the Primary and the reporter.

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Jovireh nodded, thankful for his honesty and acceptance of her suggestion. "I will make the suggestion after the party," she assured him. Normally it was not a Crewman's place to approach a Commanding Officer with a request for ambience, and the thought of doing so made her stomach flip, but from what she had picked up about their previous encounter, the Federation should be doing everything in their power to ensure their guests enjoy their stay. Such a small gesture as changing the temperature in their quarters would help show they weren't monsters. To her, that was worth a moment of stepping out of line. Following him to the buffet table, she listened intently as he described their delicacies. Surely there had to be... Yes! "I'm actually a hybrid. My mother is a Betazoid. Her people primarily eat fruits and vegetables, but they have a few shellfish delicacies as well. Such as these -" she indicated to two platters, each with a type of shellfish on them, surrounded by the colorful fruits and leafy vegetables her mother had prepared so often. "Oysters and oscoids. Those will most likely be closest to what you are accustomed to." Jovireh took a step away from the table so he could sample the Betazoid food if he desired. "My father was Romulan; they aren't members of the Federation so their food is more difficult to come by. Meat is a primary staple for them, though, from fowl to beast. I grew up with a healthy appreciation of food from both cultures." Waving over a server, she asked for two glasses of uttaberry wine before turning back to Kaelpra. "Uttaberry wine is a favorite on Betazed. Probably a bit more fruity than you're used to, but it complements seafood very well." Her mother would be so pleased right now. Jovireh couldn't help but grin at the thought.

[Primary L'Sho & Charlie Fox - Ten Forward, USS Mac]Charlie was glad to see the crowd building around the Primary; it gave her the chance to hopefully disengage from the tricky situation she'd walked herself right into. "Commander Baker," she greeted, before returning Isaiah Quinn's smile and nod. It was then, when all heads turned toward the entrance as the new Princess arrived fashionably late, that she took the opportunity to slip away. If she'd had Olsen she'd have been able to keep an eye, literally, on all interesting parties, but unfortunately she'd be spreading herself quite thinly that evening in order to ensure she got all angles. She picked up another flute of champagne and moved in the direction of the royal's entourage. Primary L'Sho, in the meantime, was also splitting his attention in multiple directions. "Lieutenant Quinn, Chief of Science, I am pleased to make your acquaintance." He gave the pair a deeper bow than he had Perry. "Lieutenant Commander Baker, on behalf of my people I would like to thank you for your efforts in welcoming us here."The gratitude was delivered in a flat tone, though nothing suggested that he was being disingenuous, rather he appeared distracted. His cold stare still on the young Elana, he answered Commodore Perry's query. "Our accommodations are quite adequate. You will find my staff less demanding than our more traditionalist counterparts."

[ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac ]
[Ens. Phoebe Volante - Ten Forward] As the woman listened to the man recall the events that she wasn't privy to she became increasing glad she didn't have a drink with her. Even though the lieutenant spoke in facts and tried to leave his emotions out of it, Phoebe was sure that the venom behind his words would have poisoned any liquid within a five metre radius of the man. "That does fill in a lot of blanks for me Lieutenant, thank you. Though if it was a religious extremist group that carried out the attack, then why does the rest of the crew seem to blame all of the Talorians? That said I understand some animosity after the Primary's accusation. But to blame the entire race because of-"[Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10]
As tempting as it was to continue drinking in her assigned quarters, it wouldn't of looked good for her or her advisors, if she hadn't made an appearance at the reception. She cut herself off as the doors opened and two beefy Talorians came through. "Well, this is where things start getting interesting. Let's hope the rest of the crew can control themselves as well as you can." She watched over the top of everyones heads as the Princess entered the room, "Though I must say Lieutenant, that is a very nice dress. I wouldn't mind having one instead of these whites we actually get." Joshua Niles
