[Ens. Phoebe Volante - Ten Forward] As the woman listened to the man recall the events that she wasn't privy to she became increasing glad she didn't have a drink with her. Even though the lieutenant spoke in facts and tried to leave his emotions out of it, Phoebe was sure that the venom behind his words would have poisoned any liquid within a five metre radius of the man. "That does fill in a lot of blanks for me Lieutenant, thank you. Though if it was a religious extremist group that carried out the attack, then why does the rest of the crew seem to blame all of the Talorians? That said I understand some animosity after the Primary's accusation. But to blame the entire race because of-"She cut herself off as the doors opened and two beefy Talorians came through. "Well, this is where things start getting interesting. Let's hope the rest of the crew can control themselves as well as you can." She watched over the top of everyones heads as the Princess entered the room, "Though I must say Lieutenant, that is a very nice dress. I wouldn't mind having one instead of these whites we actually get." [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac ]
What more was there to say about the Talorians? Niles had passed on the information as best he could. There was a great deal that had happened, and should she be curious he would be sure to pass on the reports to her, as well as the tactical logs of the encounter with the Talorian ships. But, she did ask a very good question, one that he would indeed answer. However, that would have to wait, as the Ensign was cut off by the arrival of another Talorian dignitary and her bodyguards. He had kept up with what had happened, and he had come across file imagery of the princess who had been 'murdered' at Commodore Perry's orders, and the resemblance was indeed striking. To the point that he swallowed, hard, and downed his drink in an effort to buy time to regain his composure. And, as he did so, he replied to Volante's initial question, using that as a means to reestablish control over himself, and try and bury his revulsion. "Given that we were not allowed to take that crew into custody or even engage in rescue operations, initially I was left under the impression that those actions were condoned by the Talorian government. However, based on the death of their princess and her crew and their 'murder' being laid down at Starfleet's feet, I am thinking Talorian society is not politically united, to say the least, and my take is that the Primary took that opportunity not only to eliminate her and her closest allies but also to find a convenient scapegoat. In fact, I suspect that once we were out of sensor range, they did not rescue those escape pods, but instead used them for target practice. So while it well might have been religious extremists who butchered the crew of the Jupiter Star, a dominant faction within their government decided to use those events for their own agenda by way of slandering us."His voice remained low, and his tone as even as he could keep it. But, with the shifts happening within the room, he refrained from ordering a second drink, even if it was only syntehol. Part of him wanted to keep his hands empty and his sight unobstructed... just in case. "And yes, things well might become... interesting, as per the 'Chinese curse' meaning of the word. I remember the last time I was involved in a diplomatic gathering, and you have no idea how much I hope it doesn't turn the same."

[Ten Forward, Deck 10, USS Mac]
Making her rounds on Deck 10 had not taken T'Karra very long. A majority of the people ambling about were the delegates and officers confined to Ten Forward. The hallways were mostly empty with the exception of a few stragglers late for the conference. Her business was the security of the deck and not their tardiness, so she escorted them to the lounge.
With the last of the latecomers delivered to their destination, she straightened the coat of her formal attire and entered Ten Forward. It was only the second time she had worn the dress uniform since enlisting. While the cut and color was impractical for her duties, she could appreciate adherence to tradition. She had, after all, narrowly avoided joining a ceremonial honor guard unit on her own world.
Her eyes raked across the room. It was almost as ostentatiously decorated as the assembled representatives within. The extravagant event did little to cover the tension in the recreation facility turned conference center. Tense, hushed conversation and pinched faces indicated that whatever politicking that was in progress was not going well, if at all.
But her business was the security of the deck and not the flagging diplomatic relations, so she turned her attention to the attendees- namely the two prodigious Talorians she had escorted into the room.
Soft Tags to the room.

[ Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10] With almost all eyes on her, Elana had succeeded in her attempt to make a grand entrance, one that was only befitting of her newly found status. However her gaze lingered on L'Sho for a few more moments, satisfied that she had annoyed the Supreme Commander, knowing that her presence was enough to do that, without the need to speak to him. Of course she could just remain where she was and enjoy the attention of those within her inner circle or she could engage with their hospitable hosts. Decision made, Elana spoke quietly with her guards and looked towards T'Karra their assigned Starfleet security, before she started to glide effortlessly towards an interesting looking individual and the woman he was talking to. That look one she was familar with since learning what had happened to her Sister and knew that some opposed her people for being here. Although hoped to change their opinions as Elana became aware of another individual, the one who was well known on her planet. " Ms Fox?" she enquired in an almost singsong voice, a tone that was likely not expected as she continued. " Perhaps you would like to join me as I was about to talk to those two officers and whilst we walk, I just wanted to say thank you for ensuring that my Sister won't be forgotten" she added after she had gestured towards Niles and Volante.

This is bad, is there anything worse than the Princess and the Journalist together? The womans slight panic turned into absolute horror as the situation did indeed get much worse. The Princess gestured towards where Phoebe and Joshua were standing, "Shit." She muttered before catching herself and quickly snapping her attention back to the Lieutenant. " Oh, sorry, Sir. But with all due respect, you appear to have actually cursed us." The ensign nodded in the direction of the Princess and Charlie. "This certainly will be interesting, and probably painful." She shuffled in her uniform before tugging on it again, trying desperately for it to be at least a little less shapely. Joshua Niles Charlie Fox (Charlie) Thea Baker (Princess Elana)

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Jovireh nodded, thankful for his honesty and acceptance of her suggestion. "I will make the suggestion after the party," she assured him. Normally it was not a Crewman's place to approach a Commanding Officer with a request for ambience, and the thought of doing so made her stomach flip, but from what she had picked up about their previous encounter, the Federation should be doing everything in their power to ensure their guests enjoy their stay. Such a small gesture as changing the temperature in their quarters would help show they weren't monsters. To her, that was worth a moment of stepping out of line. Following him to the buffet table, she listened intently as he described their delicacies. Surely there had to be... Yes! "I'm actually a hybrid. My mother is a Betazoid. Her people primarily eat fruits and vegetables, but they have a few shellfish delicacies as well. Such as these -" she indicated to two platters, each with a type of shellfish on them, surrounded by the colorful fruits and leafy vegetables her mother had prepared so often. "Oysters and oscoids. Those will most likely be closest to what you are accustomed to." Jovireh took a step away from the table so he could sample the Betazoid food if he desired. "My father was Romulan; they aren't members of the Federation so their food is more difficult to come by. Meat is a primary staple for them, though, from fowl to beast. I grew up with a healthy appreciation of food from both cultures." Waving over a server, she asked for two glasses of uttaberry wine before turning back to Kaelpra. "Uttaberry wine is a favorite on Betazed. Probably a bit more fruity than you're used to, but it complements seafood very well." Her mother would be so pleased right now. Jovireh couldn't help but grin at the thought. [Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"You have my gratitude," Kaelpra responded with another bow when Jovireh claimed she'd suggest the temperature adjustment after the party. To many others it might not seem like a big deal, but to Kaelpra, it cemented the idea that their hosts' intentions were as gracious as they appeared to be. When he caught a glimpse of the shellfish on show his eyes brightened noticeably. "Oh, yes! This looks a little more familiar to me." He inched forward and plucked an oscoid from the colourful display and held the shell daintily. He rose it to his lips and dipped his head back, much like he would when treating himself to yot're on Talor Prime, and slurped down the cool, viscous morsel. The texture felt similar, though the taste caught him somewhat by surprise. "Oh!" He exclaimed, before taking a cloth napkin and dabbing the corners of his mouth. "Delicious."With a smile, he listened to the crewman happily speak of both cultures she'd been exposed to. Kaelpra thought her to be a credit to both, and he very much appreciated her enthusiasm on the subject. "I believe Betazoid cuisine might be more to my taste, Crewman Velal, thank you for saving me from... whatever that is." He pointed toward the champagne flutes. "I would very much like to try a sample of Romulan food some time. Some traditional Talorian diets also consist of meat as a staple, sometimes consumed raw, often only lightly seared or boiled for a matter of minutes before being served." When the server returned with a couple of glasses of the wine Jovireh had ordered, Kaelpra obediently took a glass, and then another oscoid with his free hand. He took a testing sip and his face screwed up for a moment, clearly finding the sweet, fruity taste an experience. But he took another sip, and then another, and then... "Initially I was unsure, but now I find the more I have, the more I want!"It was obvious he was beginning to enjoy himself, but the mind of the diplomat was always at work when in company. He had a particular interest in what Jovireh had said about being a hybrid, and he recalled some information he'd read regarding the abilities of both species. "Correct me if I am wrong, Crewman Velal, but am I correct in thinking that Betazoids have what you call empathic abilities? Is that true for you? There are very few documented cases of successful hybridisation of Talorians, I am most curious. If I cause any offense at all, please do tell me immediately." Kaelpra hoped he wasn't talking too much. The Primary hated it when he did that.

She said in response to the greeting, nodding her head in confirmation that she was indeed Ms. Fox. She'd just missed the opportunity to meet the last one in the flesh. Though by all accounts, an encounter like that could have ended with Charlie Fox herself on the menu. "Your sister is a difficult one to forget, Your Highness." It was honest, at least. Under the circumstances, she supposed it was the best she could do. She fell obediently into step with Elana, her expression tightening when it became clear she was making a beeline straight for Josh and Phoebe. Charlie had approximately six seconds to decide how she was going to play this blossoming nightmare. "Princess Elana," she said, her voice carrying to the others as they came to a stop, "May I introduce Lieutenant Joshua Niles and Ensign Phoebe Volante, Security."She wished she'd stayed with the Primary.

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Kaelpra's mood noticeably shifted from friendly to delighted as he sampled the Betazoid cuisine. Jovireh couldn't help but feel a bit of pride. Helping herself to an oscoid as well, she lifted her glass of wine in 'cheers' before taking a sip. Ah, how she'd missed this, and she hadn't even realized it until the nostalgia came flooding back with the tastes. "I'm glad you enjoy it. It wouldn't do for you to spend the evening hungry."When he inquired about her empathic abilities, she nodded with a pleasant smile. "Please, call me Jovireh. My rank is barely above a civilian and not so noteworthy," she gave a slight laugh to show she was not offended, merely stating a preference. "I did inherit a little bit of empathy, though not as strong as some hybrids do. Mainly I only pick up on strong, uncontrolled emotions, or emotions that are directed at me." Speaking of which... There was a strong spike from across the room, and her eyes widened in horror when she saw Charlie introducing the Princess to the volatile Lieutenant and his companion. That was a very bad idea, and there was nothing she could do about it from over here. Not without rudely abandoning the diplomatic advisor. "T'Karra!" she telepathically called out to the Vulcan Crewman she had seen enter minutes before. "Situation at your 2 o'clock. That male lieutenant has extremely volatile emotions towards the Talorians. I can't get over there without causing alarm." Jovireh prayed the other woman heard her. Telepathy was tricky, and it had been so long since she used it, and never with her... Somebody please get the Princess away from him... She thought desperately, trying to hide her rising panic.

[ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac ]
The approach of the princess, especially in Charlie Fox' company, was not something to go unnoticed, though unlike the Ensign next to him he did not utter any imprecations, but as soon as he was relieved of his glass, both his hands, the one of flesh and bone and the one of metal and composites, clenched at his side. And, just before they arrived, he managed to whisper a few words to Volante. "Nothing I haven't though before, Miss Volante..."And, getting those words out had basically expended all the time he might have before the arrival of the journalist and the princess. The royal's resemblance with the file imagery of the late (and, so far as Niles was concerned, thoroughly unlamented) Princess Orya was uncanny, and that made him clench his fists to the point that he was certain his fingernails might break skin, natural or otherwise, if he went much harder. However, he forced himself to relax his hands, though he stood ramrod-straight before the pair of women. When Charlie introduced them, he slightly inclined himself in a shallow bow; perhaps the diplomatic event involving Jeren of the Kurjarians had gone completely off the rail, and it had been quite some time since his much more successful one with Princess Victoria, but he could still at least manage the courtesies, no matter the fact that he was applying every ounce of his discipline and self-control to maintain his dislike of Talorians, especially one who resembled one he thoroughly identified as a monster, at a well-concealed simmer. "Your Highness," he said, his tone courteous though thoroughly emotionless, choosing to be as icily correct as he could be as the only defence against his desire to be anywhere but in that particular room... And when he straightened, he inclined his head towards the journalist. "Charlie." His tone when addressing the journalist, however, was much warmer, and he did manage at least a ghost of a strained smile. Her, he liked; she had been willing to speak to him, and they had a chance to at least start to know each other. And while she generally made little secret of her general dislike for the Fleet, at least he could admire and respect the truth of her convictions. And with her presence there, he also became very keenly aware that he was in a position to make the official record, both with Starfleet and the press... and that particular proposition was not calculated to help him relax at all...

[Ten Forward, Deck 10, USS Mac] Being primarily a touch telepath, T'Karra had learned to steel herself from most hand-to-hand psionic contact that came with interacting with more tactile species. What she hadn't anticipated this evening was being struck with a sudden connection that felt reminiscent of a familial or mating bond. To reach out in such a manner without permission was... unsettling, jarring, and it shook her to the core. With a stuttering step, a stricken expression briefly flashed across her face and she fought against the momentary lapse of control. It took a moment but she regained her bearing and focused on the weak connection. It was like the high frequency hum of electricity and she canted her head, scanning the crowd to try and find the source. Her locked eyes with Crewman Velal across the room and the phenomenon instantly coalesced into a more coherent flow of feeling. T'Karra pushed down the tendrils of panic seeping through the connection. It seemed as though the enlisted man didn't want the two security personnel near the princess, namely the human male, that much was clear. Now it was up to her to figure out why. There would be time to parse out how the woman had been able to reach out to her later. It seemed as though politics would be her business after all. Unfortunate. T'Karra recognized the Lieutenant in question by the chain of command portraits displayed in the security node of the station, Lieutenant Junior Grade Joshua Niles. He stood with the bearing uncannily similar to her own kind; stone faced and ridged. His white knuckles revealed that his serenity was feigned. Perhaps Crewman Velal had sensed unstable emotions hiding just beneath the surface. If that was the case, she needed to be ready to intervene. The soft spoken Vulcan moved along side the Talorians she had been escorting, standing within in arms reach of both parties, and nodded to the officers in greeting. Sir Doug chuckled perhaps a little louder than he should have, all the while grabbing a flute of champagne. "I'd keep my distance from Niles if I were you, or them," he advised, keeping discreetly quiet this time. But of course, he was El-Aurian, and realized there was some history to her statement. "Were you two..." he asked, nosy as ever. It would be surprising, but not that surprising. [ PO1 Kaya Som | Ten Forward ]Kaya looked up at Doug for a second, then sniffed when she realized his meaning. She gave him a little jab in the side with her elbow. "No...! Vek'tema," she muttered under her breath. It wasn't an unforgivable inference but it was about as far from the truth as could be. "No. Em. Professional differences, more like." Sir Doug had been on the bridge that day. "And I'm not going to do anything," Kaya admitted dully. "The champagne's synth and I've pressed my luck quite enough." When the princess arrived, Kaya found that she straighted up without thinking, maybe an effect of her station or maybe in anticipation of the tension rising in the room. She looked around and that consulted Sir Doug again, enjoying their conspiracy. "You've been to loads of these. Diplomatic receptions. Are they always like this?" Dugris Zaman

[ Princess Elana - The Twilight Zone, Ten Forward] Having guessed correctly that she was talking to the famous Charlie Fox had definitely pleased the young Royal. Although appreciated her honesty and candor when the reporter spoke about her Sister and from what she had heard, Orya had left a lasting impression on everyone that she had come into contact with. Yet despite her reputation, Elana was proud to continue representing what she had stood for and to ensure that the old ways didn't die out completely regardless of L'Sho's determination to rule and change everything. However this wasn't the time to dwell on such matters, not when she had people to meet and learn more about the Bataq, especially with the purpose of potential peace. Even for those who still believed, it was important to usher in this new phase for Talor without losing their true selves. " From what I've been told, that is understandable" she replied softly, before they reached the two officers that had caught Elana's attention. Elana's eyes twinkled as she was introduced to Joshua and Phoebe, particularly Joshua at least for another few moments. Enjoying his resistance to her presence despite his attempts to be pleasant and respectful. Her gaze lingered on the Lieutenant as she responded to him, albeit with a slight flirtation to her voice. " Lieutenant Niles, it's a pleasure to meet you, despite the circumstances I hope you can see me for who I am and not my Sister".It was likely that she had put him on the spot but if they were to be successful then she needed to be candid with her hosts, before Elana shifted her attention to Phoebe. " It is also good to make your acquaintance Ensign Volante, I appreciate the effort that has been put in, to make this an interesting evening".Meanwhile Lesal and Ostat had followed especially when their Vulcan escort moved closer and if trouble was anticipated then they would protect the Princess, even if it cost them their lives.
****************** [ Relan - Ten Forward, Deck 10] Slipping into the very colourful and somewhat busy Lounge, had been easy enough for the Secondary Assistant to the Primary. If approached Relan would simply explain that he had been dealing with his assigned tasks and hadn't realised the time. Then plead with their hosts, not to tell L'Sho for fear of being reprimanded or worse for his tardiness. Of course he would be as convincing as he was so adept at doing, when in reality he wasn't lying as such due the importance of his role amongst L'Sho's part of the delegation. Keen to mingle and observe as he was instructed during the journey from the home world to this Argus Major. The tall and slightly darker tinged Talorian proceeded to look around, aware that both the Primary and the Princess were engaged in conversation with the Bataq's. Since his services weren't required at the moment and upon seeing Kaelpra over by the food tables. Relan decided to indulge until he was needed or dismissed for the evening so purposefully went over and began to inspect what was on offer.

[Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]Kaelpra kept his own counsel on Jovireh Velal's rank when she declared her name preference. He wasn't completely up to speed on the naming conventions of all the Federation species, and unlike the Talorians, many of them had more than one name, but he believed he recognised the crewman's preference as her first, given name. He was honoured, and privately thought that his new companion's rank was not equal to her in the slightest. "I would imagine that could be both quite difficult, and an advantage in your line of work," he mused aloud in response to her appreciated honesty, before sampling yet another oscoid. While he dabbed his lips again, he noticed that Jovireh had gone quiet, and was staring intently toward the Princess. Kaelpra himself frowned as he spotted her approach a pair of Starfleet officers, and in the company of the reporter, no less. "Do you need to see to that, Jovireh?" He asked as he turned back to her, his expression showing some concern. After a beat or two he added, "I am not entirely certain that grouping will be a pleasant one."

[Charlie Fox - The Twilight Zone, Ten Forward]Joshua Niles had always struck her as a proper, predominantly formal type of officer, especially when on duty. But the stiffness of his back and the cold, lacking tone screamed something else entirely. Her eyes flickered from his hands, which opened from tight fists, to his face as he said her name in greeting. His slight smile received a brighter one of her own in response, as she felt some relief that he had control enough over himself to modulate his reaction from the Princess to her in turn. But then, the Talorian spoke. Forget that, she flirted. Charlie's gaze turned sharp as she glanced sidelong at Princess Elana, noting the way she looked at Josh, and the way she phrased her greeting. Fearing that the chance meeting would crash and burn quicker than she could say 'diplomatic incident', she made a snap decision. "Oh, Lieutenant, that reminds me! Speaking of interesting evenings, you promised me a Security rundown for that 'Day In The Life Of...' piece, you know, the one I was telling you about earlier?" She looked expectantly at Josh, her expression encouraging him to agree. Then she glanced quickly at the Princess. "Please excuse us, Your Highness, if you would. My readers love this kind of thing. Perhaps you might be interested in a similar piece yourself? 'Inside the glamourous world of Princess Elana... Despite the weight of the world upon her newly crowned head, she walks with the grace and poise of one always destined to be royal...'"Pitch and blabbering over, she waved at Josh. "Come on, I need a quote or two." Then she looked at Phoebe. "Ensign Volante here will no doubt be happy to bend your ear, Princess."

[USS Mac, Ten Forward] Jovireh immediately felt bad as T'Karra seemed quite shaken by her psionic contact. She would have to apologize later for the intrusion. It was not an action she made a habit of, but in the moment she had seen no other alternative that wouldn't send every bodyguard in the room over to surround the lieutenant. When the Vulcan seemed to understand her request and moved towards the group in question, Jov relaxed with a small sigh of relief. Kaelpra's quiet voice beside her pulled her from her thoughts, and she turned back to him with a reassuring smile. "I just did," she nodded her head towards T'Karra. "Don't worry, there's plenty people over there now to keep him from ruining these talks before they begin." She took another sip of her wine, selecting a piece of fruit from the table, hoping to convey that the Princess' choice of conversationalists was no longer a matter to be concerned about. "Being an empath certainly is useful when working security," she replied to his earlier statement. "Feeling emotions that stand out from the rest of the atmosphere helps me know where there might be a problem, so I can interfere before it actually becomes a problem." She often wondered why there weren't more empaths in the security field, but as each career path was an individual choice, she wasn't likely to ever get an answer to that.

A simple nod to Charlie, "Ms. Fox." and a slight bow to the Princess, "It's is a pleasure to meet you, your highness." Did the Princess just flirt with the Lieutenant? That's not going to go well. Luckily Charlie interjected and tried to distract from it, at least she had some level of perception. Phoebe beamed her smile to Elana, "Thank you, The Federation spares no effort where peace is concerned. Speaking of, you yourself are looking lovely today. I especially like the dress." She cast her eyes down and back up over the stunning and somewhat revealing garment. "I don't suppose you could let me borrow your tailor? I will be in need of one in the very near future." Her smile widened slightly as she tugged on her uniform, again trying to free herself from it's suffocating grasp. At this point Phoebe was sure the thing was actively shrinking by the second. [ Princess Elana - The Twilight Zone, Ten Forward] Having guessed correctly that she was talking to the famous Charlie Fox had definitely pleased the young Royal. [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac]
Watching yet one more person closing in, a Crewman T'Karra whom he only knew from their mission on Medici and with whom he'd barely spoken at all, Niles found himself wondering if everyone just expected him to haul off and shove his prosthetic hand through a member of the Talorian delegation's face. Given the very public nature of the argument he had with Petty Officer Som, in a lot of ways, it did seem like a pretty likely possibility all right. However, given that he'd indeed been ordered to be present and not shoved into a corner somewhere as he'd requested was a sign that at least Commander Baker trusted his judgement, control and professionalism enough to have him attend the reception. Now, he liked and trusted the doctor and appreciated that tacit trust she was putting into him, even though he had absolutely no love for this current assignment. And the princess, when she answered him, did not remain on the proper and diplomatic side of things; instead, her tone was light and unless he was gravely mistaken, she was even flirting with him. Now that was the sort of thing that he had not expected. In fact he would hardly have been surprised if his face had not been all over Talorian news outlets and government statements as the officer who had been at the Tactical station when Primary L'Sho shooed Commodore Perry out of the system and the Mac empty-handed... Which meant he really had no idea of how to deal with her, beyond remaining strictly diplomatic and correct. And, every known deity bless her heart, Charlie was one to offer him a chance to withdraw gracefully That was the sort of thing that he'd never expected her to do, let alone to offer the princess a unique segment of a story, even if it would never be disseminated, to get him out of there. And, as the Tactical Officer with ambitions of a command of his own who thought he was well worth his salt, he would make full use of this opportunity to effect a withdrawal in good order as to avoid being trapped in a situation reminiscent of the Kobayashi Maru test. And, well, that would mean he would leave Ensign Volante to the wolves with the princess... but even as a very junior officer, rank did have some privileges, and if he had to justify it later, well, he would say the truth: he was not disposed to risk a thoroughly avoidable diplomatic incident. "Indeed, Your Highness," he replied coolly. "But if you will excuse me, I will leave you in Ensign Volante's capable hands. Perhaps we will speak later?"Having made his evasions, he offered her, once more, a stiff bow before following the journalist out of that particular minefield. As he walked with Charlie, he remained silent, but he did make eye contact with the steward who'd served him earlier and discreetly gestured for a second (thoroughly synthehol) Old Fashioned, and it was not until they were safely clear that a cleansing breath entered his lungs and came out as a sigh of relief. "Thank you for getting me out of there," he then told Charlie, his face losing its wooden cast and replacing it with an expression of genuine gratitude. "Though I certainly didn't expert you to commit yourself to an interview with her on my behalf."

Are they always like this?" Dugris Zaman [Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Ten Forward]Sir Doug recoiled a little, very briefly, as it became evident that he'd been off the mark. At least Kaya wasn't insulted - as perhaps she might have been, the El-Aurian realized when he recalled that day. "My bad," he muttered, apologetic. However, the conversation rolled on. "If this was a normal summit, they probably would've sent a different crew, professional diplomats, all of that, especially after our history, and they'd keep Niles far away," he said. They'd probably also keep him - Sir Doug - far away too. "I don't know who thought this is a good idea."Certainly, Sir Doug thought the Talorians needed a lot more skilled hands to handle them than these.
