[Lt Shavan Th’zhaar - Main Street, Serenity]
Shavan listened as introductions were finished and they started on a tour of the colony. Starfleet did like their diplomatic niceties. It was something he was forced to learn to tolerate. He could have said something more about the communications, but it wasn’t the time yet. And while he was eager to get started, a tour was appropriate, to see with their own eyes what they were dealing with.
He stayed near the middle of the group as they started walking further into the town. The architecture was foreign, but simple. And the whole place was unnervingly quiet. Shavan kept his attention on Trill woman as she led them to the town hall. For a settlement of this size he might have expected to see a few more people out and about.. but then, he’d never lived anywhere remotely resembling this, so he had nothing to compare it to.
Then came the call that the Mac was beaming down the supplies and leaving them there. Which was just.. great. But it should not affect the mission all that much.

[Unknown Location - Serenity] " The Mac has gone to warp and according to our sensors and field operatives, they beamed down the majority of the supplies before departure" Mila said as she looked to the hooded figure who had entered the control room a few minutes before. Noone but Jaggah and a couple of chosen people had seen the person hidden underneath but that didn't stop Mila, from wanting to do her job well. " Then let's not waste any time, I'll inform Jaggah to proceed as planned now that we don't have any interruptions" The figure spoke with an unnatural glee that caused Mila to shudder as she responded. " As you wish and yes here's to our more worthy cause".The figure grinned not that anyone could see as they reached for the comm. " Jaggah, proceed as planned, we shall have them in our grasp soon".

[PO3 Jovireh Velal - Serenity Colony - Main St.]This was getting frustrating. Niles hadn't managed to pull Quinn aside, and she hadn't thought of a way to get his attention without raising suspicion either. Hopefully at least one of them would be able to warn him before anything happened. For a moment it would seem like she had a chance when he turned and looked at her... But before she could say anything he turned back around and continued his conversation. Great. From the corner of her eye, she saw the multicolored fur of Left Ear, and thought about asking the Sivaoan if anything seemed wrong to her. But she didn't want to alarm the young healer if it turned out to be nothing. Something brushed against her hand, and she stiffened, turning just slightly before she realized it had been fur instead of flesh. Left Ear's tail. She was going to have to get used to having a teammate with a tail. She gave the Sivaoan a soft smile before taking a small step closer so she could keep her voice down. "Have you noticed anything... off... about this place?" She asked, explaining her jumpiness while also hoping to utilize the Sivaoan's survival instincts. Before she could go into her own concerns, however, there was a call from the Mac, requesting to send down the supplies so they could respond to a distress call. That seemed rather... convenient... She wasn't thrilled about the idea, but more so her concern regarded the lack of backup rather than the incoming supplies, and she wasn't about to suggest they ignore the distress call. So she remained silent as Quinn responded, deciding she and Niles were just going to have to do what they could to keep everyone safe. On their own.
Tag Ozu Saya [ Left Ear to-Ennien - Serenity Colony] Left Ear realized that it might not have been the wisest idea to touch a security officer without warning when Jov stiffened at the brush of her tail. The Sivaoan was used to the casual touching of her people and still sometimes struggled to not be overly familiar with those she was around. When Jov asked if she'd noticed anything wrong, Left Ear took a moment to seriously consider. Since she was mostly surrounded by the people that she'd come with, it was a little harder to separate the new scents of the colonists. Finally she shook her head, a humanoid gesture she'd picked up, and whispered, I don't think so, but it's hard to tell with everyone grouped together. I might be able to tell more if I can get close to the colonists.

[NPC - Jaggah - Unknown Location -> Main Street]
"We're moving," Jaggah replied into his own comm device, before looking at his assorted thugs.
"MOVE IT!"
Jaggah hopped onto one of the ground ships (the one codenamed Red), and the vehicles all moved. As planned, Red came down to the Main Street, while two of the others (Blue and Green) discreetly flanked the colony. The fourth, Black, loomed behind a hill, out of sight to deliver the fatal blow.
As soon as his own vessel landed, right on the main street, mowing down a pile of cement, knocking out a fire hydrant, toppling several garbage cans, and throwing up some of the stones with which the street was paved. This was par for the course for Jaggah.
"You dimwits know what to do," the Orion brute announced to the colony as he stepped out into the chaos, a black cape billowing behind him. Jaggah was fond of Klingon food, and these idiots, much like gagh, were fun to play with while they were on his plate. He'd toy with them, make them think he was here to steal supplies as usual, before revealing his full strength.

[ CPO Kaya Som | Town Hall -> Outside to Main St ]
Kaya and Taron Lars' congenial chat had turned to shop talk, Taron self-effacing but proud of their agricultural systems and Kaya keen to
Then suddenly there was a ground-shaking crash outside and the entire town hall shook to its foundation, dust falling from the ceiling beams. Kaya instinctively ducked and she wasn't the only one who immediately made for the door.
Her first instinct was that it was an earthquake like the ones she'd grown used to on Trill, but quickly she realized it was nothing of the sort. Out in the gleaming light of day she saw the crash-landed ship in the demolished street and the figures emerging already confronted by Starfleet security.
Kaya swore under her break and Taron took a few steps back again. He knew what this was. If they could all just stay calm, he hoped.
"Who is that?" Kaya asked aloud.
"Not one to be messed about with," Taron answered through a stiffened jaw.

Somehow she doubted he'd heed her warning, especially if he was aware that their ship had just departed. But unless he became physically violent, she was obligated to try and diffuse the situation verbally. Sometimes she really hated that too. [ LT Joshua Niles - Serenity Colony, Main Street ]Word that the Mac was being called away was not exactly a welcome sort of news for the Lieutenant. Front Ear and the Mac dangling at the very far end of a very tenuous support chain was already a challenge in its own right, but leaving an away team unsupported on the ground, was definitely not his idea of fun. Hell, being out on a barely-armed converted freighter hunting pirates was less than pleasant in its own right, but without so much as a paper-thin hull and some popguns on hand was its own breed of less than ideal in his mind. And it would play merry hell with his already disrupted time estimates, as even if the ground station components for the satellites, comms relays, sensors and weapons platforms were delivered, they would be little more than high-tech paperweights until the spaceborne assets could be deployed, which would require Mac and her small craft to get done. Well, at least they came with a simulation mode so depending on how long the Mac would be gone, he would have an opportunity to start training what people Sheriff Marais intended to have manning those systems. However, if Starfleet had to have a second motto, it would be "Never get in love with any of your plans, because Murphy", and he would have to roll with those punches. As such, he would have to satisfy himself with the tour, and a less stringent timetable for the time being. And besides, he reckoned there was much he could learn from Lang Marais, even in a short amount of time. However, those thoughts were interrupted when a small craft, heavily armed came screaming in and performed a swift landing right on the street, taking no particular care to avoid impacting anything. From a red fixture that had been knocked down, a jet of water started shooting up into the sky like a geyser as landing legs crunched through the street's cobblestones. However, this was not an out-of-control operation to Niles' eyes, it was a rapid insertion; he should know, he'd had to do much of the same in his flight training. Velal, thought, was the first one to respond as individuals, clearly well-armed thugs, came streaming out of the craft, and as he reached for his own phaser, he noticed the resigned look on Lang Marais face. The old man hadn't even reached for his weapon, and he held out a hand towards the Lieutenant to indicate a need for restraint. "Son, don't," he said softly, regretfully, and a hint of disgust dripping from his voice; that was a man who knew what he was facing, and had absolutely no liking for it. And, even as the engineers were coming out of the town hall, and before any shooting would start, Niles understood that while the odds didn't look too bad just now, Marais knew something he didn't, something he didn't like but had accepted. "Lower your weapon, PO." Niles' voice was firm and even, and certainly sounding much more confident than he really felt. Oh, he expected she wouldn't like that order; in fact he didn't like it himself. But right now, there was exactly one individual with security experience present who knew what the hell was going on, and if he was stepping on an obvious desire to be doing something about it, then local experience had to be taken into account. "Stand down, and you will not open fire unless ordered by Commander Quinn or myself. Acknowledge the order, Petty Officer Velal." The Tactical Officer's voice hardened to what was a clear and unequivocal 'command' tone. It rankled, but it was, in his judgement, the most appropriate thing to do.

[Green Leader - Main Street, Serenity]
With both green and blue teams in position it was time to unleash some more unpleasantness to those they now had surrounded. Whilst Blue team began to dispatch the twenty men and women to gather up the remaining ten colonists from the two farms still in operation. The Orion in charge of Green team left her second to oversee and coordinate that part of the operation as she prepared to do something more fun.
Inputting her command code into her console, it took a few seconds to activate before sending confirmation to the other 3 ground ships and their base of operations.
All comms have been neutralised, dampening field in now in effect. Phasers, Tricorders have been rendered inoperable. Proceed with phase two.

Tag Judith Eastman (Jaggah) soft tags away team [ Left Ear to-Ennien - Serenity] Left Ear squawked and dove behind a pile of...something. She had no idea what - some kind of building materials, she supposed, even as she crouched and peered around the edge at the Starfleet officers as they confronted the giant green man. Though the Starfleeters didn't seem to be much in agreement how to handle the situation. A gust of wind brought a metallic scent to Left Ear's nose, along with that of several more people. Glancing that direction, she couldn't see anyone, so she hissed, hoping to get Jov's attention. Jov, I think there are more, she whispered, as loudly as she dared. That direction. The tip of her tail appeared and pointed more or less 90 degrees of where the odd little vessel had landed in the street. ---------- Tag Jovireh Velal

[NPC - Jaggah - Main Street, Serenity]Jaggah sneered. The fleeters clearly had no clue what was coming for them, and he just laughed. "You're not going to do much protecting," he gloated, before getting the call from Green team. "You're all in my custody now," he announced, as he took his rifle (set for stun) and shot Sheriff Marais. Others of his goons took out the colonists, leaving only Mara and the fleeters conscious. "Put your hands behind your heads, and prepare to be restrained," he growled at those remaining. "These are set on stun, but soon they won't be."While most of the goons continued to brandish their rifles, a few wielded restraints.

The Orion in charge didn't waste any more time negotiating with the away team's worryingly outnumbered security team. Before Kaya could completely process what was happening, flashes of phaser fire erupted and a score of people dropped to the ground around her.
Kaya choked down a cry, clamping her hands over her mouth when Taron Lars' great form tumbled back and fell to the ground. She felt suddenly abjectly vulnurable standing out in the open among the now-silent fallen.
Jaggah ordered their surrender, but Kaya didn't know what to do. She looked to the others for some hint of if she should follow the attacker's demands and raise their arms or ... something else? Her hands shook, hovering midway between uncertainty and compliance. It took all her effort not to bolt.

Not until she felt the dim vibration of power cease. Of all the times... Someone was going to have to get after the armory about keeping the power cells charged. Since the phaser was now useless, Jov 'obediently' lowered it back into its holster. She heard Left Ear's voice from off to the side, but the hiss was too soft for her to make out the words. The flick of the tail, however, was clearly a warning about something in that direction. Before she could look, however, flashes of rifle fire surrounded her and she dropped to one knee, instinctively drawing her phaser once more before she remembered it would be more useful as a projectile. The colonists were down. The away team was outnumbered. And the Orion was taking them into custody. This couldn't get much worse. Her blood ran cold as she realized there was no way to fight this without someone getting killed. Her steeled gaze remained focused on the Orion leader, and to make a point of surrender, she tossed her useless phaser onto the ground at his feet. Still kneeling on the cobblestone street, she lowered her gaze to the stones in front of her, and slowly lifted her hands into the air on either side of her head. Jovireh could see the space immediately around her, and watched for movement that would indicate one of the thugs approaching to restrain her. Her mind was racing, her heart pounding. Steady now...

{Quoted Posts} [Lt Shavan Th’zhaar - Main Street, Serenity] Shavan listened as introductions were finished and they started on a tour of the colony. [Left Ear to-Ennien - Serenity Colony] Left Ear realized that it might not have been the wisest idea to touch a security officer without warning when Jov stiffened at the brush of her tail. [NPC - Jaggah - Unknown Location -> Main Street]"We're moving," Jaggah replied into his own comm device, before looking at his assorted thugs. [ CPO Kaya Som | Town Hall -> Outside to Main St ]Kaya and Taron Lars' congenial chat had turned to shop talk, Taron self-effacing but proud of their agricultural systems and Kaya keen to Then suddenly there was a ground-shaking crash outside and the entire town hall shook to its foundation, dust falling from the ceiling beams. [Green Leader - Main Street, Serenity] With both green and blue teams in position it was time to unleash some more unpleasantness to those they now had surrounded.
[Left Ear to-Ennien - Serenity] Left Ear squawked and dove behind a pile of...something. She had no idea what - some kind of building materials, she supposed, even as she crouched and peered around the edge at the Starfleet officers as they confronted the giant green man. [ CPO Kaya Som, Taron Lars | Main St ]The Orion in charge didn't waste any more time negotiating with the away team's worryingly outnumbered security team. [PO Jovireh Velal - Serenity Colony - Main St.]She heard Lt. Niles' stern voice behind her, and she clenched her jaw tightly. He was definitely going to need to learn to trust her, but now was not the time for that conversation. They couldn't let the Orion think there was dissent in their ranks. "Understood sir." Jovireh could see the space immediately around her, and watched for movement that would indicate one of the thugs approaching to restrain her. Her mind was racing, her heart pounding. Steady now... [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Main Street, Serenity] It wasn't ideal for the Mac to be called away with the away team planet-side, but it was always a possibility of the job. Still, this was a situation where they were dealing with Federation citizens, and not an unknown quantity. For the most part, this was a relatively non-hostile situation and fairly routine. Quinn briefly took inventory of the away team before turning his attention back to Mara so that she could proceed with the tour and answering his questions. "Now, where were we?" he asked. The supplies were soon beamed down in the location that Quinn had suggested. He wanted to proceed with some of the tour before dispatching Velal to deal with distributing those supplies as Niles had assigned her. It made sense to get a general lay of the land if only to make her duties more efficient. Not to mention gain a little insight into his own queries currently plaguing him about this place. Serenity was living up to its name all too well. And Mara Rexan had found a clever way to dance around answering some of his most direct and simple questions. Quinn was just about to state as much when the unexpected happened upon them. A loud rumbling crash of some sort of airship seemed to capture all of their attention. He applauded the quickness of his security team, but it soon became apparent how futile such gestures were. Niles was right. Cooler heads would prevail here, and Velal seemed to understand as much as she followed the lieutenant's orders. Quinn couldn't help but notice something he hadn't noticed at first about the colonists. There was an air of familiarity. Suffice it to say they were no were near as surprised as the rest of the away team. "You anticipated this, didn't you?" Quinn confronted Mara. His eyes narrowed as he stared at her. "You knew... and said nothing." Whatever her reasons, as far as Quinn was concerned, they had better have been pretty damned good. If this was what had been going on before they arrived, a lot of things were finally beginning to add up. The elevated number of supplies... the radio silence.... Quinn reached up to tap his commbadge only to hear it wouldn't establish it's typical link. The Mac was (most likely) still out of range or the communications net surrounding them had been jammed. Quinn's eyes fell to the large Orion that began barking orders. This wasn't going to be a situation that they could shoot themselves out of. They were outnumbered, outgunned, but from where Quinn stood, certainly not outsmarted or outclassed. It was a theory he aimed to put to the test. If only to buy them all enough time for the Mac to return. Because when it did, Thea would surely try to establish communication with the team, and when she didn't, well... they just had to hold out that long. The Orion seemed amused by Velal's declaration that the colony was under Starfleet's protection. It quickly became apparent that the Orion was arrogant, and clearly dealing from a position of strength. He was too comfortable. Perhaps that was something that Quinn could use. He fired his rifle, stunning the sheriff. A similar fate was met by the other colonists. Only Mara and the away team remained standing. As the Orion ordered them to surrender, Quinn nodded to his officer signaling for them to comply. "You really didn't think any of this through, did you?" Isaiah said. "You had a working arrangement before. That's certainly over now. If you'd only waited a few hours, you could have kept this going on indefinitely. Clearly, you know how to apply pressure. You had the colonists right where you wanted them." Isaiah took a deep breath. "It says quite a lot about you. Mainly... that you're not the one calling the shots. It's a clear preponderance of testicular fortitude in the vast absence of rudimentary aptitude."Quinn slowly lifted his hands as his eyes kept on the Orion. Somehow, he felt if the Orion's attention was on him, the rest of the away team was somewhat safer. Plus, he wanted to see just how much he could learn from this Orion, such as why they were there. Despite his postering, Quinn was confident in his tactical assessment. It was foolish to act now, when they could have waited for the Mac and the away team to leave. That naturally suggested that they had some other motive this time. The only question was what.

[Lt Shavan Th’zhaar - Main Street, Serenity]
Shavan tilted his antennae forward as he felt a sudden foreboding and sensed something moving in that direction. That was all the warning he got, before a fraction of a second later the raiders ship crashed into the street ready to fire. He didn’t think, just reacted on instinct and ducked for cover behind a low wall, drawing his phaser.
Within seconds, they were surrounded. Shavan froze, a cold, sinking feeling in his gut. He barely registered the exchange between the security officers, the stunned colonists or the click of the phaser’s power dying.
He’d seen this enough times, albeit from the other side, to know what to do without thinking. Just stay quiet and let them have what they wanted. Which was clearly more than just the supplies, but that fact didn't change the immediate situation. As much as he would have loved to vaporize the man in charge, that wasn’t happening. Resistance right now would only make things worse for the colonists.
Slowly, he lowered the weapon.

[Left Ear to-Ennien - Serenity]
Left Ear flinched at the whine of each phaser blast that struck the colonists. She huddled behind her pile of whatever and shuddered, her fur puffing out until she'd nearly doubled in size.
One of the goons noticed the felinoid hiding and stalked over with a nasty grin. The bulky Orion towered above her and ran his tongue over sharpened, yellowing teeth.
Here kitty, kitty. Come along nicely, he said, slapping a set of manacles into his hand.
The Sivaoan's ears flattened to her head as an eerie growl rumbled from deep in her throat.
The Orion glared and reached for her, growling right back, None of that.
Left Ear had never done much fighting to speak of - some tussles with her littermates, a memorable fight with a slashback, that time on Kerelia - but some deeply ingrained survival instinct kicked in and she suddenly launched herself at the Orion, snarling in his face and trying to get claws into him.
For just a moment, the raider was too stunned to react, but his training kicked in and he responded with a resounding blow to the side of Left Ear's head.
Sivaoan skulls were far harder than he'd accounted for, though. There was a reason they had the saying 'Head is harder than hand'. Left Ear shook it off and whipped her tail up to wrap around the Orion's neck.
He was ready for her now, though, and managed to snag the long, parti-colored tail and give it a hard twist, eliciting a yowl from the Sivaoan.
Out of patience, he grabbed his disruptor from its holster and shot Left Ear, causing her body to drop abruptly in a pile of limbs at his feet. Roughly, he manacled her, hand and foot, and swung the limp Sivaoan over his shoulder. He bared his teeth at the Starfleeters, daring them to try anything.
