['Unique' - Front Ear - Park]It had learned much since rooting in this place. Park... That's what the nurturers called this environment. It also learned much about the 'People' it could sense in the Park. Some it was able to speak to, others it could not. It hadn't taken long for them to be satisfied it did not wish to harm anyone, and the energy that had surrounded it 'for protection' had been removed. There had been a few curious saplings - no, 'Children' - that had investigated its vines, but it had always done its best not to let its thorns penetrate their skin. One Person it could not speak to had approached earlier. It had been polite, and cautious, as it set something on the ground beneath the vines. The object provided no nutrients, nor companionship... Though the fact that it was given must have some importance. So after the Person had left, the vines wrapped around the object and pulled it closer to the stalk for protection. The Children were still about, after all. Uncertain what else to do, the plant reentered its dormant state of vague awareness, basking pleasantly in the light that shone from above.

[ Jurgha, daughter of Khar - Blue Beta] Well, some help the others were now. Jurgha held the fish out for them to look at if they wanted, and frowned as as she considered Hunt's theories. It was a place to start, though it appeared that none of them actually knew the person the clue was referring to. However, there was one problem with all of that. “I work in customs, and I don’t know any petty officer there that's also a doctor,” she explained impatiently. Glaring at the frustrating clue, she then considered the Blue Beta Bar, which didn't actually have much to do with fish… and the strangely named Candy. “Maybe the Brig Medical Facility is a better place to start. Unless there is anything, or anyone else Gates could mean?"[Blue Beta] Hunt remained standing with his hand under his chin. He first listened to Candy to see if she had some new information to offer. She figured the last clue and wondered if she would be able to help them on the next. “ That’s ok,” Hunt responded to Candy as she had no idea. He was trying to be understanding as they could not rely on her to do everything. He then turned his attention to Eliska as mentioned that the Petty Officer might be near the plate. “ But why would a Medical Officer be near the Station’s Motto? It seems kind of odd,” Hunt said as he wondered out loud. As he was not sure either. He then looked at the Klingon as she offered information that there are no Medical individuals in customs. “ So that eliminates one Option”. Hunt then responded. Hunt then said the medical facility in the brig, which seems like a good start. He then approached the fish and read the clue again. Gates He thought as this word was confusing them. “I n Starfleet Academy, we learned when you confront a situation, and you are stuck, you need to look it at a different matter. Gates is capitalized, so if it’s a reference to a location. Why would it be Capitalized?” Hunt said out loud. As he was processing his thinking and hopefully, the team would be able to follow his logic. “ What if Gates…is not a Location but a name,” He said out loud. He then approached the computer. “C omputer, display on this monitor all Starfleet and Civilian Personnel with either the first name and last name Gates.” Hunt then observed a display of names pop up on the terminal. “ Computer, narrow down to all Gates that work on the Medical field,” Hunt continued saying out loud. It was not shortly after that the name “Kellen Gates” appeared. “ X Marks the spot,” Hunt said out loud. “ Computer, identify the location of Kellen Gates,” Hunt said out loud as he hopes he would get his location fairly soon. “ I think this might be a more solid lead than the Medical Brig and the Station's motto. What say the rest of the team?” Hunt asked as he did not want to be authoritative. [Hot Candy - Blue Beta]=/\= "Petty Officer Kellen Gates is in Primary Sickbay - Medical Storage 2." =/\= When the Computer confirmed Jonathan's theory, Candy nodded and held up a finger, pointing upward as though that's where the voice was coming from. "I would say the team says yes!"She began to move, leaving the fish to someone else to carry. She waved a goodbye to Seamus, never too busy for a smile and a wink for him, even with a new room up for grabs, and filed out of the bar and restaurant. "I'd also say that it's a fine thing we have a doctor on our team, otherwise we might run into some access issues."There was something else that had caught her interest during the team's exchange before, and that had been Jurgha's line of work. "Pardon my asking, but you said you worked in Customs?" Candy was always on the look out for connections, especially those that would be useful to her when she started her own business. "Just say, hypothetically, of course, that someone might want to import some fine cigars. How do you see that being received? Not that I'm looking for banned virgin-rolled Cuban cigars from Earth or anything, merely just a passin' curiosity..." She might as well get the lay of the land while they journeyed to Sickbay. [ Cwm Eliska Bremmer - Blue Beta, Promenade -> En Route to Medical Storage 2, Primary Sickbay Front Ear Station ]Well, once again she had guessed, and guessed wrong. Well, with some luck the next riddle, or the next challenge, would be one that would play to her strengths rather than have to rely on what her teammates took for granted. But, at least, what Eliska Bremmer knew inside and out was the layout of the station, including service passages that would allow them to quickly traverse the facility without having to go the roundabout ways via the main corridors. However, one question that came through from this Candy about importing some... unusual materials. Luxury items were not necessarily banned, but having to specifically state she was not looking at bringing in something that was outright proscribed did raise a bit of a red flag. "Why, anything of that nature would be flagged in the manifests, and need Security to actually inspect the shipments and then they would have to be cleared through."Well, she could at least answer that while they walked. And before long, after ducking through a side corridor, Eliska led her team towards a little-used service turbolift; usually it was used for maintenance work by individuals or teams of two, and with four people on board it was bound to be a little cramped but it would get them towards Sickbay a hell of a lot faster than taking the regular passenger lifts. "So... how did the rest of you get tagged for this little treasure hunt of the Commander's?"

[Vaken Tariwat - Hotel Lobby -> Blue Beta -> Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino]Beta ShiftNot one of them spared a glance for old Vaken Tariwat. No goodbye, no thanks, no smiles. He hung his head, the disappointment was overwhelming. When they walked off, chattering amongst themselves the Bolian lifted his head, his stare naturally drawn once again to his future wife Kova. "Farewell..." He whispered in her wake. For now.

Niamh O'Leary's head snapped upward, her raven hair loose and flying everywhere. Her forehead was sporting the indentations from the PADD on her desk. The wild look in her eyes of someone who'd been rudely awakened abated when she remembered where she was, and recognised the officer at her door. "Oh, O'Connell, yeah, yeah okay, I've a script or somethin', hold yer horsies."She'd been three sheets to the wind the evening before when the new (old?) XO had come to visit her and to conscript her assistance for this team building exercise idea. O'Leary, pissed as a fart, had waxed lyrical about the need for cohesiveness and discipline, in attempt to ingratiate. Unfortunately she'd gone off on a tangent, telling some old war stories from her time as a cadet at 375. And now, at this hour of the morning, she was dying of a hangover and trying to sleep through it at her desk. The Co. Wexford native stood and approached a glass case, backlit and filled with models of various crafts. The small copy of the Caldonian transport shuttle had been given to her the night previous, but she'd remembered to put it somewhere safe that morning, despite the thumping behind her eyes. "Ye need my clearance to fly because ye're not supposed to leave the Station." She picked up the tiny Erudite. "And also, I'm the boss. Catch."She tossed it to Syl. With the right amount of pressure, the back of the model would open up to reveal a slip of paper. Written on it was their third clue.

[ Jurgha, daughter of Khar - Blue Beta -> Turbolift] “We will find this Kellen Gates, then.” Jurgha agreed with Hunt, that this new information was probably the right way to go. She followed the group out of the Blue Beta, still carrying the fish. When Candy voiced her proposal, she turned to the human with a glare. “That's right,” she added on to Eliska's statement. “And no one gets banned items past me.” After shoving into the turbolift, Jurgha answered Eliska’s question simply. “I want those upgraded quarters.” She felt no sense of obligation to be there the way the Fleeters might, but she did enjoy the idea of a competition. And she would be getting that prize. Felicity Ellis Jonathan Hunt Eliska Bremmer

[Valkyries - Flight Control] Leanna was happy to follow Syl and Eta as the Flight Officer led the way, pointing out the Erudite as they passed it. Of course the Betazoid had heard about the Caldonia 5 and naturally was curious about seeing the vessel that they had made their daring escape in. It was also humbling to see it and she could only imagine what they had endured during their journey home. Their was light that had come out of the darkness and was finally beginning to understand the thought process behind the clues. Once they had entered Niamh's office and Syl had asked the Chief about the clue. Lea had to hide a grin as the Chief, realised that she had company. From the looks of it, Niamh had obviously had a good time the night before. Lea liked Niamh a lot and always had time for her as she then got up and went over to the glass case. Fascinated by the models it contained before she took a model of the Erudite out and answered Syl's question. Thinking that it might be a good idea to let Niamh go back to her nap after she had tossed the model to Syl. Lea made a decision and spoke to her team. " Keep hold of the model and let's go find a place to sit outside so we can work out the clue" she suggested, then turned towards Niamh. " Thanks Niamh, feel free to pop by the Beta later, Seamus has just added an Irish fry to the menu".The traditional Irish breakfast had been a genius idea and a dish that Lea had quickly come to enjoy, especially if you wanted something hearty and filling.

Later, later, later, the word circled his mind. Weaving in and out of other thoughts, others’ thoughts, and their feelings ( later) and their laughter ( later!) and the way it didn’t match their smiles, or it did. They were loud who did. He was conscious of his own expression and its struggling ( always) to find honesty, or just to be, either way. He never meant to be loud. In his silence, he was. He almost felt guilty around the Andorians, for the strength of their subtle certainty, all royal shades and metal upon the skin. Guilty, as if they could feel through their antennae his panic and tenderness and every little thing about him, the way he felt from everyone else. Everyone but them, really. These two had a way of obscurity about them that he found he rather liked. It was an undetermined sensation, flickering like unstable channels, as if Shavan had not decided his intention—or indeed as if he had none. Ic’s chances, which was a new concept, changed from later to maybe, and it made the Betazoid squirm that much more. He couldn’t tell. Did he accept the blurry mauve that hummed into his bones, did he smile with meaning ( later)? Or did he run from it, to a… plant? (And if it could hear him, would it judge? He supposed he would find out— ) Chances changed from later to maybe, Ic pressed his lips together to squash his smile when Shavan spoke again, suggesting the image of the plant. With two eyes now, he turned around to face the healthy expanse of the park. And when he saw it, he started just slightly, as much at the size as the thorns. This was probably a metaphor for something in the recess of his subconscious but he was way too preoccupied with later and now to analyze it. Plant first— “You both know where sick bay is, right? In case it hates me?”It didn’t. Actually, it didn’t seem that it could. He could feel it now that he could focus on it, knowledge in one sense unfolding upon the Others. It turned the surface of his tongue green with the soft bitterness of leaves, and a clean innocence from the depths of its mighty roots. It was waiting. “And any botanists here? In case I hurt it? Bonus points if either of you are into plants, I guess? It’s fine. We’re fine.”Ic approached it with caution, respect, feeling a little of the heat in his cheeks change from now to here, a moment in his hands— and he remembered through a haze of heavy blue, Leanna telling him about the dragons and the extradimensional aliens… if she could do this, he could. He talked to cats at home, and had had an imaginary friend as a child when visiting his father at his star base; as an adult, he come to assume it was another telepath, but now he didn’t know. The voice had never had a name. “Okay. Um. Dear plant.” Was this right? “I’m wondering if you can help us?” Did it need to be beseeched or begged, maybe implored? “My friends and I are looking for something. A message of some kind? An item? The last thing was an item. Do you… know anything about that? Or have you seen—sensed—anything very recently that seemed out of the ordinary?”He glanced back to his team for anything they might want to add, as if they could hear him talking to the plant. Honestly, for all he knew, they could. Jovireh Velal Shavan Th'zhaar Kova Sh'qaleq

[Eta Borir - Flight Control]
The Cardassian tried to keep herself motivated, already fearing that her turn would come on the next clue. Leanna had her flash, Syl had her flash, and if Eta didn't have hers now it would be...embarrassing.
At the Betazoid's comment, Eta nodded eagerly. "I think the same way. Good night," she still said to the...lieutenant? She wasn't familiar with Starfleet ranks, and certainly not with rank insignia.
Outside, she pointed to a seat and settled herself there before turning her gaze to Syl, who still had the clue in her hands. "Fire away."

[NPC - Xoteak - Park]Xoteak, the Caldonian dissident, walked into the park, wheeling a cart in front of him. He was the proprietor of Kurjarian Friend Chicken, a Terran-Caldonian-Kurjarian fusion restaurant that sold delectable deep-fried fast food. "Chicken! Chicken! Only 10 credits for a meal![fn]Approx 6 USD in 2021 terms[/fn]" he called out, selling his wares like that. He saw a group in the park, including two of the valiant allies whom he had left behind on Caldonia, and one he could not recognize. "Chicken, anyone?" he offered.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Park] Ic still looked flustered, and nervous about ‘talking’ to the plant, so Shavan gave him an encouraging smile. “It’ll be fine.” He had no idea what happened next in the telepath’s mind, but as they stood there in apparent silence his gaze traveled over the plant itself. “It’s.. holding something. That must be what we're looking for.” He could only hope that Ic would be successful in asking for it. With the Betazoid’s attention on the plant, Shavan allowed himself an appreciative glance. Ic really was very cute, wasn't he? He wanted to- Like a switch had been flipped, his blood suddenly turned to ice. There, in front of them, was a Caldonian… someone he never expected to see again. Of course Shavan remembered one of the last faces he’d seen before the Pit. And they still hadn’t found out exactly who set them up, had they? Resisting the urge to strangle Xoteak on the spot, he arranged his features into a perfectly cheerful expression. “I’d love some.” He quickly helped himself to some of the food off the cart, making no move to pay for it yet. [Blue Beta] Hunt listened to the computer as he heard the message that their possible person is in Sickbay, Medical Storage 2. Luck has it that he does not the Sickbay and Medical area like the back of his hands because that’s one of the places that he spends most of his time. This project has shown him, at the very least, that he might need to get out more. “ Thanks, I guess my access to Sickbay also lends itself to this theory. As I am sure each of us had to contribute something to succeed.” Hunt agreed with Candy. And she might have indirectly strengthened his conviction that Gates was the person and not the location. [On Route] They began their walk as he listened to Eliska talking to Candy about their procedures about luxuries good and shipments. It was something that the Doctor tried to stay out of since he knew very little about shipments and customs. All he knew is that when he makes a requisition request to sickbay, he talks to the CMO and explains why. He has not been particularly interested in smuggling medication into the Station. As they continued the walk, Eliksa asked them how they did get roped into this as he listened to Jurgha’s eloquent explanation for joining. Hunt could not help but smile. Hunt smiled and continued, “ I think the Commander’s goal is admirable. There has always been tension between civilians and Starfleet. In fact, with any organization that is perceived to have authority. So anything I do can help the quality of life in the Station; it’s great for me,” Hunt said. His answer was mostly with this goal. He is there to improve relations. “ You know I am still getting to know the area. Any places worth hanging out?” Hunt asked. As a relative newcomer, he knew little of the areas as he kept mostly to himself and the medical area. [Sickbay] The journey was relatively short as Hunt entered Sickbay. A crewman was guarding the medical storage area as Hunt greeted “ Crewmen, Dr. Hunt. The people behind me are my guest; please let them in,” Hunt said. As he finished, he placed his codes into the Medical Storage, and he was in. [Medical Storage 2] Hunt entered the storage in which he observed a person with which he was familiar from their meetings. “ Petty Officer Gates, I presume? I’m Doctor Hunt,” Jonathan said as he extended his hand to greet him. “ I’m asking to see if you have Dermal Generator or a suture kit for us? Or a Medical Device,” Hunt asked as they needed to get the third clue so that they can move on. tag Eliska Bremmer Felicity Ellis Shavan Th'zhaar

[Lieutenant Niamh O'Leary - Chief Flight Officer's Office, Deck 18]
"Oh that sounds good, that should sort me right out." She patted her stomach, which was completely empty as she hadn't yet managed to risk anything solid, and thought about a good old fashioned fry-up to cure what ailed her. "Thanks Lea."
Niamh then turned away from her case, which was by far her favourite feature in the office, and grabbed a glass of chilled water from her desk. She began to drink, and drink, and kept going until she'd emptied it in one go. She waved the others out, but it wasn't until she'd put the glass down and swiped her sleeve across her mouth that she spoke again.
"Win the ting, O'Connell!" Niamh O'Leary ordered, calling loudly after them as they entered the hall, and immediately wincing at her own volume.
Exit Niamh.

[Hot Candy - Turbolift -> Sickbay]Before Candy could get her answer, the barn girl interrupted. Candy rolled her eyes up to the heavens at the expected goody-goody response. As for the klingon, well, she was just as rude, and seemingly well-behaved, which was just plain old boring. Candy decided that she wasn't going to talk to either of them for the rest of this competition. And they certainly weren't getting invited to her grand opening. No virgin thigh-rolled Cuban cigars for them, no sir. "Okay, okay, jeez. Sorry I asked." She tried to carve out her own little space in the turbolift, but when it became evident that there was none, she sidled up to Jonathan. When he asked the question she smiled up at him, willing to answer as so far he'd been the only one who hadn't been mean to her. "I'm afraid my roommate and I don't see eye to eye." What an understatement. "And a girl just needs her own space, you know?" [Petty Officer Kellen Gates - Medical Storage 2]"223, 224..."Startled, the medical petty officer dropped his PADD. He turned toward Dr. Interrupter, the new blood onboard, and sighed. "Um, yes, that's me." Gatesy signature head bob-bow accompanied his greeting. Now that his hands were free of his equipment, he was able to take the other man's hand in a shake. "I was just doing inventory..." He explained, pointing out the obvious. At the mention of the dermal regenerator, amongst other things, he realised that this must be the team the Boss had been talking about. He glanced first at Hunt, then at the blonde, then the klingon and the woman in the security uniform. They certainly didn't look like a team, but who was he to question Felicity's team-picking skills? She'd been his CMO for years on Sierra, and she'd picked him, so she had that going for her. He handed the doctor the regenerator. Attached to it was a printed, official looking note on thin paper. It read: "Good luck!" Kellen Gates wished, then picked his PADD back up and returned to counting as though they weren't there at all.

[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Front Ear - Main Hangar]Syl was, frankly, not impressed with how obvious it was they walked in on the CFC sleeping. She'd only met the other woman a couple times, but she was beginning to agree with Admiral Ellis' wondering why she was still the department head. Of course, Syl kept that opinion to herself, and didn't let it show on her face as she caught the model that was tossed to her. She did, however, smile slightly when she looked at it and realized it was a model of the Erudite. At least she hadn't been too far off... Nodding, she turned to follow the others out, but stopped and glanced back at the Lieutenant. "Thanks for the help, ma'am." Even without the instructions to be courteous, Niamh was - as so succinctly put - her boss. Joining Lea and Eta, she sat beside the Cardassian and looked down at the model in her hand. She turned it slowly between her fingers, applying a little more pressure when she felt a seam. The hatch popped open, and she pulled out the piece of paper to read the clue aloud. "Don this suit to go into battle... But check your boots before you fill them." Well, that meant absolutely nothing to her. Wanting to test her theory, she glanced over at Eta. "Ring any bells?"

Kellen Gates wished, then picked his PADD back up and returned to counting as though they weren't there at all. [ Cwm Eliska Bremmer - En Route -> Primary Sickbay Front Ear Station ]That woman's eye-roll was so brutally blatant. What did the woman expect to hear when asking that kind of question around someone who worked with Customs and a member of the Security department? That they would let contraband through just because she was asking nicely or would bat her eyelashes? That they wouldn't do their due diligence and just let proscribed materials enter or transit through the station? Hell, if she found herself working cargo inspections and a consignment for this Candy Barr or one of her interests would show up, she'd make a point to pay it extra attention from this point on... However, Eliska did get some answers to her question. The good doctor, who seemed to be at risk of losing his pants to Ms. Barr, did not provide an answer as to precisely how he got tagged for this particular evolution only his approval of it, and the Klingon, in the forthright way of her people, stated she was there for the prize. And, as it turned out, so was Barr. "Well, personally I was voluntold. Though I'm not about to say no to the chance to move into officers' quarters with a water shower."And, shortly after she had spoken, they had reached Sickbay and Hunt led the way to Medical storage where a third clue was found, which she read around the physician's shoulder. And instantly, she knew where it was pointing to. The Front Ear was a Starbase in its own right and a certain level of judicial power rested on this location; and she, conveniently, had served as a prisoner escort and occasional bailiff. "Well, that's easy. All rise, make your case, that's the courtroom, probably the prosecution's table since that's where a case would really need making... but since there's the odd civil case could be either side's table. But we should get going, nice and fast, no?"

{Quoted Posts} [Turbolift -> Park] He’d never talked to plants before, except to beg them to survive through his secondary school science fair. They didn’t listen. Ic had never had much success with even the most unkillable of plants, nevermind those who could bear witness to his internal screaming. But maybe that was the problem with the cactus. Maybe it did hear him. There was no way desperation could turn a plant’s insides to gelatinous mush, though. A remark like that from the lieutenant, however, could make jelly of any organic. It was as lethal as good morning, and at such suffering short range— The ensign was grateful that the turbolift had a handrail. Less so that it also had Kova. Her remark struck him like a spoon against a freshly demolded aspic, her dense determination a heavy hand. His own imagination, indulgent as it was, had not even gotten that far. “I— that— we— it was—” He had no idea what that or we we or it (or even I) was, actually, but stammering through the short remainder of the turbolift ride beat the heck out of silence when his entire being reddened, heated, wobbled, helpless. For all the mess of words, all pink, not one of them denied interest. (He’d never talked very much to people either, and he was certain now that it showed. But damnit, he was a physicist, not a socialite—) The moment the doors opened upon the green space of the park, Ic stumbled to a struggling equilibrium into grass and oxygen again.“If plants could talk,” he repeated to himself, desperate to reclaim even a shred of professionalism in the face of his thickly tingling cheeks. One eye closed to concentrate on blocking the sensations of others, Ic started on a wandering path to feel out any vegetation—rather, any non-person— sentience that might be waiting with a clue upon its…. whatever organelle it could have been that facilitated communication. Then again, a plant could have been manufacturing (a replicator?) or an informant. He supposed a telepathic vegetable could have been all of the above. The only trouble was that it was a rather busy day at the park, and Ic often struggled to filter information in even small groups of humanoids he was acquainted with, especially under emotional duress. He turned to Shavan, walking backward, but didn’t dare make eye contact under the pretense of a visual search, of course. “—what’s it look like, sir?” [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Park] At Kova's comment, Shavan just rolled his eyes, neither acknowledging nor denying such intentions. “I said later, didn't I?”Resisting the urge to add something else, he let the subject of fornicating with either of them (or perfectly professional tours of the station) drop for the moment. They arrived at the park, and Shavan looked at Ic (had he been that pink the whole time?) as he turned the topic back to the telepathic plant, and started leading the way down the path toward it. “You’ll know when you see it. Huge, vines everywhere, lots of thorns…” Maybe not the most detailed description, but Shavan wasn’t actually a botanist…. and the thing was hard to miss. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Park] If the Betazoid's stammering didn't confirm that he was interested in fornication, then his reddening shade of pink certainly had. Kova felt that she had become quite adept at identifying when pink-skins of all sorts were being disingenuous. When their blood rushed to the surface of the skin, making their pale skins pinken, they typically were experiencing anxiety. And the only thing Ic had to be anxious about was concealing his lust for fornicating with Shavan, who seemed all too willing to fulfill this obligation... later. Wasn't there some sort of rule about fraternizing with those under your direct command? It wasn't really of Kova's concern. All that mattered was completing the task. As they arrived, Kova had to admit. She had no idea of what to look for. Shavan seemed to be the one familiar with it, so when he started to describe it, Kova made certain to pay attention. Though his description wasn't very detailed: large, vines, thorns. While looking around, it seemed that Ic was the first one to locate it. Kova allowed him to take the lead, and kept a healthy distance from the plant as well. There was no need for all of them to die should he aggravate the plant. Kova shrugged nonchalantly as Ic asked if they knew where Sickbay was. She thought he would have preferred that they ask for an emergency transport. His agony would only persist of they tried to carry him there. When he called out once more to ask if either of them were a botanist, Kova shook her head. "My homeworld is a planet of ice," she pointed out (hopefully) the obvious. Kova watched Ic, though she wasn't sure what was happening. There wasn't any actually talking occurring... at least not from him. Her attention was soon captured by someone else soliciting chicken. As Kova turned to see the vendor that had approached, she instantly recognized Xoteak. "You!" Kova said as she reached out to take a handful of Xoteak's garb. How lucky he was that Commander Ellis' words rang in her head at that moment. She released him, her eyes narrowing as she stared at the Caldonian. "I see you managed to elude capture back on Caldonia... while we did not. How fortunate for you."
