[Operations - Command Deck] Until she heard back from Sickbay as to whether the treatments she had recommended had worked or not. All Thea could do was wait and hope that they were successful in helping their people fight whatever had inhibited their psionic abilities. Of course that got her thinking about Evoris and how she would also need to keep him awake. She could easily locate the appropriate stimulant via one of the emergency medkits and was about to fetch one when Bremmer acknowledged her order. Retrieving the medkit didn't take long and Thea had just opened it when the Crewman arrived back in Ops with the team that she had put together. Giving Bremmer her full attention, Thea listened to her explanation and agreed with the logic behind it. The CO also believed her when she spoke about the shadow and didn't doubt for one second that it was anything but real. " That makes sense Crewman and agreed, I don't think any of you are crazy. It appears as though we may of found what's causing all of this but as to why, well that's still something that we need to figure out" she replied, before Evoris informed them about the blink and you'd miss it neurogenic energy that had been briefly detected. " I don't think it's a coincidence that this is showing up now. Ensign if possible adjust the sensors to focus on this neurogenic energy. We might just be able to track it and Ensign I'm going to inject you with a stimulant and see if that will help".Naturally Thea was still open to suggestions and ideas from her team as she loaded up the hypo, then moved over to Evoris where she administered the stimulant. Whilst she did this Ensign Mila spoke up from her console. " Captain, I think I know where the shadows may of come from. I could be wrong but I've been monitoring the anomaly and its been getting brighter and stronger, especially after Crewman Bremmer informed us about the fatality". However before Thea could answer, a large shadow appeared in Ops delivering a warning as it swooped menacingly over them. " I wondered how long it would take for all of you to realise that I'm responsible for all of this. However you're too late and soon every soul will be mine".

[Dream Realm]
Leanna didn't know how long she had kept herself huddled in the corner of the cage. Slowly coming to the realisation that this wasn't just a nightmare that she found herself trapped in. It had to be more than that as she had never had shadows chasing her before and whilst she might be mute.... wait that couldn't be right. She was never afraid to use her voice, to be strong and fierce. So it must be the shadow or whatever it really was making her this way and despite the threats it had made, she had to remember who she was.
If she wanted to see Riyo, her children, her friends and family, she had to get out of here. This thing wasn't going to expose more of her vulnerability and make her quiet anymore. So all she had to do was try to speak and figure out, how she was going to escape from this awful cage.
" You don't frighten me, love and hope will always win rather than evil. Because that's what you are evil and pathetic".
" I'll show you who's pathetic and believe me, when I'm done with you, you'll know real fear and fright" the shadow threatened, laughing at her attempt at being brave. This one might of finally found her voice but it didn't matter as the cage started to shrink and Leanna, along with it.

[ Cwm Eliska Bremmer - Ops - Front Ear Station ]"Honestly Captain, if I hadn't seen whatever that was with my own two eyes I'd doubt whoever'd be telling me about it. And having seen it, if there hadn't been these guys seeing it right alongside me, I'd've thought I was seeing things." Well, maybe the Captain didn't didn't thing Bremmer and her team were crazy, but when dealing with something truly weird, it could always be really interesting getting other people up to speed. And a 'shadow' on top of someone who 'died of fright' would be one of those things that well might get a few raised eyebrows. And, at this point, all Bremmer and her people were, was muscle ready to be sent wherever the Captain would need a mailed fist in a real hurry. Waiting, that was entirely part of a junior enlisted type's life all right. And just as she was settling into the background noise of Ops, Bremmer allowed herself to relax just a little, until a shadow appeared in Ops and flew around like some creature from dark folklore. But there it was, and when it spoke, there was no denying the aura of menace it exuded. Oh, it didn't take an expert to sense malevolence when one was in its presence. The security team, for one thing, knew what to do when it sensed a threat and rifles came up from their resting positions to the shoulder of their carriers. The Bolian Lek found himself moving to place himself between the creature and Ensign Evoris, while Shugahira parked himself next to Ensign Mila, and both Hebert and Bremmer took position in front of the Captain, and all rifles were trained upon the shadow. Well, there was no telling what a phaser would do to that thing... but it was better than nothing.

[ T’Laara - ?] Why, indeed, would the shadow want her to say it? “A test, to see if I will.” Or… a distraction. An illusion. Maybe it wanted her to get caught up in fighting both it and her own emotions, so that she didn’t see… “This isn't real.”Meanwhile, the sandstorm rushed closer. Leave her to die? Why would it just leave… unless it wasn't as in control as it was attempting to make her believe. That was her storm. Her frustration at being trapped. At feeling lost. All that she fought to control… and for what? Maybe she had to accept it in order to pass through it. “So leave. It is a risk I will take."Thea Baker

[ Ensign Ic Arbrell & [NPC] Dr. Floren Rafa — Sickbay, Front Ear] Ic stared into the darkness ahead, trying to piece together the Captain’s words over the intercom. They were far away, small beneath the sound of his breathing and his pulse and the doctors, slightly less distant. Security— Betazoid— scared— shadow? The space of a pause in the room held a palpable tension, and Ic grew suspicious of the news. He wasn’t entirely certain what he’d missed, but she’d said enough to know how to fill in the blank. The stimulant widened the world, and his senses grew slowly into it. As the migraine seemed to begin to subside, Enola’s remark echoed in his head. Don’t have a nervous breakdown when someone fitting your description has just died.“Way ahead of you,” he muttered, uncertain himself if the cheek in his statement carried the usual fragile humor of his defenses, or if the simple fact of it was all. No big stranger to the occasional meltdown, he’d been in a dynamic process of emotional degradation since Unique went quiet. He tried to reach out to the plant again, but the same collapse occurred. At least, he supposed, he could see its leaves and bud in hazy shapes across the room. He didn't want to die in a goddamned sickbay. And it was then, reminded suddenly, he noted there were fewer people here than he expected there to be. “Have you heard anything from... Evoris?” “Well,” said Dr. Floren, his brows raised with interest on the edge of amusement at the instructions over the intercom. If Starfleet wanted to try alternative remedies, he would happily write that prescription. “I suppose it’s everyone’s lucky day, mm?”Quickly, Rafa returned to his workstation to cross reference and calculate the formulation, green eyes bright in well-controlled excitement. He hadn't gotten to play with these in quite some time. “Entheogenics, I think, are our best start. Let’s try psilocybin to unlock and regenerate the pathways,” he murmured while he worked to synthesize the compounds, chant-like, akin to a spell. “A collection of harmala alkaloids to add some life back in, a little dimethyltryptamine to wake it up.”But Rafa knew ineffably that wasn’t quite enough. He nodded hesitantly toward the plant. “A telepathic being that remains unaffected may provide a necessary agent to trigger telepathic functioning beyond initiating base paracortex activity. I've never tried anything like it. Has it been… analyzed? Do you think we could just sample...”

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Sickbay]Riyo couldn't help but grin at the other doctor's excitement at being allowed to do what he clearly did best. It was a feeling that he was all too familiar with, himself. Synthesizing the medical treatment only took a few minutes, and soon he was injecting each of the unconscious patients, taking a step back to watch the monitors for any signs of changes. He was distracted momentarily as Floren brought up the plant again, and he glanced between the other man and the flora in question. "From what I've heard, it's fully self-aware... Ethically we would need to ask its permission for anything more intrusive than the scans I've already taken..." And unless Enola or Ic were able to feel it, and just haven't said anything about it, Riyo had no idea how they would go about getting the plants permission, let alone help. A flicker on one of the monitors caught his attention, and he looked back over to see that T'Laara was the first to show signs of improvement. Where there had previously been blank space on the screen, there was now a single line, waving ever so slightly as it scrolled across. That was definitely a good sign... Tag Ic Arbrell [Unique - Front Ear - Sickbay]The monitor wasn't the only thing that picked up a slight rise in activity. The plant in the corner suddenly shifted when it felt the distant presence of someone it hadn't known was there, let alone affected. In a sudden rustle of leaves and vines, it scurried across the room to stop beside T'Laara, bud tilted as it regarded her motionless form. Several moments later, it shifted again, this time resting a leaf across her arm, initiating physical contact in the way it seemed made communication easier for her. It immediately felt another, unknown presence that seemed to wrap around hers, hiding her. The malicious intent that radiated from it was unlike anything Unique had felt before, and it caused a protective rage to surge within it. "You cannot have her!" Its thoughts were directed at the intruder, carrying the force of its never-before-experienced anger like a weapon. Was this why Ic had gone silent as well? How many of its other friends had this evil taken from it? No more. Tag Thea Baker Shavan Th'zhaar

[Ensign Evorís - Operations, Front Ear] Evorís nodded his acknowledgement, pausing in his task only to allow the injection. The drug diffused through his blood, and he could feel it, pricking at his skin and his brain, absorbing fatigue in pockets. It was easier to focus, now, without the taste of collapse crawling through his senses, but with exhaustion artificially subdued, other feelings took its place. He was... even more nothing than usual. He felt emptied, and he felt— Something passed over them, dark and obscured by the natural shadows on the deck. — afraid. He stood, emboldened by the stimulant and pulled with the creature’s every movement, a spectral claw digging at the cavity within his ribs. Every soul... Evorís wondered how much of his own was already gone. (How much had existed to begin with?) The security team moved with purpose, and Evorís did the same, feet in place but hands flitting across the console controls. He adjusted the scanner, which had been running through each of the decks, to focus on the immediate vicinity. Sharp brows furrowed against the figures flitting across the screen, until— there. Just as he’d expected, another anomaly in the neural energy, this time much closer. “Captain, sensors are picking up another displacement on this deck. It keeps shifting, I— I’m unable to pinpoint the exact origin, or if the entity even has a physical form to locate, but... it is logical to conclude that this is a sentient life form that we are dealing with.” It was difficult to determine if the incompetency was of his own making, or the shadow’s. Stimulants could only do so much against the thickening void in the pit of his body. A sensation tickled against the inner corner of his eye, and out of instinct, he moved to wipe it away. The finger came away wet, and spotted with ink-black droplets. “Captain...” he began, but no words formed. Whatever this thing was, they had every reason to fear it.

[Jovireh] The shadow watched as Jovireh responded to its threat, a threat that it had every intention of carrying out, regardless of what she did. Her sarcasm, the appearance of the kaleh and her suggestion of it dropping dead only fueled its need for completion. To have this one join the dead Betazoid and revel in the black blood that spilled from his eyes. It wouldn't stop until it had succeeded and the same would be done to the others. " Strike me if you dare, but I cannot die and when you are weakened by your attempts. I will strike you down and make you bleed as your soul becomes mine".Anger boiled over in its words, especially when it sensed interference as the pathetic real worlders attempted to wake up what it was feeding from. It disappeared in a flash leaving Jovireh alone or had it?. [T'Laara] The shadow listened as T'Laara spoke, pleased that it had made her doubt herself and its purpose for being here. " It's more than a test Dearie and this is very real" it responded with the same venom and malice. Its words gaining strength as the sandstorm rushed closer to where it still had T'Laara in its clutches. When she told it to leave as it was a risk that she was willing to take. The shadow cackled, knowing that it would win if she lived or died. " Oh no I'm not going to leave" it began, wanting to watch her battle and eventually succumb to the sandstorm. However as it received the news from its brethren about the real worlders, it considered whether to remain or join them. A decision that was made for it by the appearance of something else, that told it that it couldn't have the Vulcan. [Unique] Leaving T'Laara to her fate as it was drawn to this interloper, the shadow hissed. " I don't care who or what you are... she's mine and there's nothing that you and those meddling humanoids can do".To show that it meant business a message was sent to the brethren currently occupied with Jov and Leanna. " The time has come to unleash the next phase of our attack".Then it looked at the interloper as if daring it to try something else and when it did, the shadow would destroy it and make it bleed like the others.

[Operations - Command Deck] The shadow's warning sent chills through Thea's spine as she refused to cower at its presence or look away. She was however aware of Eliska and the other members of the security team moving into to defence and protect mode. Covering her, Evoris and Mila whilst pointing their phaser rifles at the menacing black figure. Not that it appeared to be concerned by such actions as it glowered down at them. It's mere presence made everything they knew so far, much clearer and now that it had decided to make itself known, perhaps there was a way to understand and prevent it from doing any more harm. Of course that wasn't guaranteed and hearing Evoris and the conclusion he had come too, could only help with the attempt to reason with it. Turning to acknowledge what was said, Thea gasped as Evoris called out to her with black like blood running down his eyes. Instinct had her rushing over to him, deciding that her officer's need was greater than the shadow. " Great work Ensign but now I think it's time for you to go to Sickbay. You've worked admirably throughout all of this but I won't let this lifeform affect you any longer" she said soothingly as she looked to Bremmer. " Crewman, please escort the Ensign to Sickbay and leave the rest of your team here, just in case" she added as the shadow spoke again. " Do what you must but that won't stop me". " I don't know why you're doing this but you'll find that we won't give up. So why don't you tell us why you're here and why you chose to kill and affect my people?"." Why should I tell you when it's more fun to watch you try to work it out. I'll be watching and waiting" the shadow declared, before disappearing. Thea didn't like at all and all they could do was make sure that the treatment worked, so they could start fighting back.

[ Cwm Eliska Bremmer - Ops - Front Ear Station ]Well, being ignored while posing an open threat was a new sensation for Eliska Bremmer. Though, could it be because it didn't see them as a threat, or failed to recognize those rifles as the threat they were? Well, until and unless she had cause to fire, that was entirely academic all right. But, there was definitely something truly vile about that shadow thing, whatever it was, and there was this definite itch to see how it would deal with phaserfire... but one was a professional, and did not just open fire because she felt like it! At the order to get the Ensign to Sickbay, but to leave her detail behind, Eliska simply nodded, her eyes remaining on the shadow. After all, one didn't turn away from a threat all right. Using her peripheral vision to thread her path towards Evoris, she stood by the Vulcan and inclined her head towards the turbolift door. "Sir, if you'll make your way to the turbolift, if you please?"Well, she was indeed ordered to escort him to get treatment, but he was still an officer, and unless things went sideways, well, she really couldn't make him do anything...

[Ensign Enola - Sickbay - Front Ear]
She was almost about to grin at his comment. But thanks to logic, it was hard for her to tell if it was meant in a cheeky or humorous way. Likewise, she puzzled a little over what he meant. And it was not very difficult for her to keep her logic. But he seemed to feel a little better already. So she moved away again to a distance that seemed appropriate to her, but always held on to his hand until he reached out for the plant. She let go of him completely and then answered his question, "Yes, I did. It's been a while, though. He said last time he was still functioning, but I still wouldn't be surprised if we got a visit from him" she said.

[PO1 Jovireh Velal - Dreamland - Ghost Ship]Its threats meant nothing to her anymore. The more it talked, the more it told her how to beat it. Jovireh gripped the dagger, but didn't strike, not yet... just readied herself in case it came any closer. Before she could say anything more, it vanished, and she was left alone in the empty corridors once more. Now that she knew this was a dream, she knew better than to keep wandering around. So she remained where she was, posture defensive in case it returned, and retreated into the depths of her own mind to access barriers she hadn't needed to use since she first created them. Gradually, the corridor around her began to change. Dark gray bulkheads became near black, green lights glowed along the deck floor.

[Dream Realm] As the cage got smaller, there wasn't a lot that Leanna could do as she shrank along with it. Although she was determined not to panic, thinking it would be better to just let it happen rather than struggle and use up precious energy. Besides the more she thought about it, the more Leanna realised that this what the shadow wanted and she wasn't going to give it the satisfaction of depleting her of everything that made her Leanna. However just when she thought that it was over, something unexpected happened as the cage just stopped. At first there was curiosity which was quickly replaced by hope, especially when everything around her began to change. Naturally Lea was wary despite the optimism that this new change had brought about. So for a minute or two she remained where she was and looked around. Half expecting the shadow to reappear and start threatening her again. Leanna decided that it was worth the risk and summoned all of her strength to free herself. Misjudging slightly as the cage gave way and the Betazoid landed a little harshly on the ground below. Stunned and shaken, Leanna had to gather her thoughts whilst she had the opportunity to escape. Standing up, Leanna didn't know what way to go but as long as she was moving she didn't care. " That's it Dearie... you better start running".*************** For those in Sickbay, there would be a slight improvement in Leanna's vitals and a sign that the treatment had some effect. However it was only fleeting and likely due to how long she had been under.

[ T’Laara - ?] T’Laara clenched her jaw as the shadow continued its taunts, refusing to let go. Ignoring its words, she chose not to engage it any further. Talking aloud would solve nothing. Meanwhile, the sandstorm approached, and with it the possibility that she was wrong about this. Then, a flash of green in the back of her mind. She felt a a hint of an impossibly familiar presence… that from far off, spoke in her defense. Unique? The shadow's attention moved away, and T’Laara stumbled as it released her. It was going after Unique instead.Maybe that was what did it. The wind picked up around her. Lightning flashed amid the swirling sand that suddenly engulfed the landscape and obscured the sky. She closed her inner eyelids against it, hair and clothes whipping violently in the wind. And yet, she remained unharmed. This was her dream, and she was winning back control. Something in her gave way, careful suppression of emotions slipping. A primal rage swirled within her, a mirror of the storm. “I am not yours!” she shouted after the shadow. She had to wake up. [[NPC] Dr. Floren Rafa & Ensign Ic Arbrell — Sick Bay, Front Ear] “Then, we’ll just have to try this,” said Rafa, moving back to administer the cocktail to their conscious patients, the more logical of them his first choice for the trial— “and hope that it—”He had just finished delivering the entheogenics to Enola when the plant moved, and fast, to the Vulcan woman’s side. Taken aback by its sudden activity, and the dirt across the floor, the physician stepped back to observe it. It seemed to attend the woman like family or a friend, protective and doting. Unsure what to make of it, he nodded to Ic for the ensign’s input instead. “It seems your little plant friend is perfectly fine, I wouldn’t worry about it. Now let’s see if this works so you can talk to it again, hm?”Ic wanted to refuse to be injected with any more substances; he was through with the constant attempts of countless doctors to medicate him, suppress his telepathy, control his emotions, take away who he was. He wanted to refuse like he always did with things they didn’t know would work, but this time, he found himself on the reverse. What else could he do? (He wanted Evoris here. He didn’t want to be the only one who understood—) Trying not to look too closely into the darkness of Ic’s eyes, Rafa released a dose into the Betazoid’s neck. Instantly, Ic drew a sharp breath. “Woah.” He glanced slowly over at Enola, eyes wide. The entire station shifted in his ears (it did not move). “Do you feel that?”Rafa watched them only until Leanna’s vitals changed, when he rushed to her side to check them. “Leanna,” he said quietly, even knowing she probably could not hear, “Hang on. Paawin, do you want to try more?”
