[Unique - T'Laara's mind]It succeeded in drawing the attention of the Intruder, and it released T'Laara from its grip. Her presence strengthened with the freedom, but it was obvious she wasn't safe yet. Unique's own presence reacted volatiley to the nearness of the Intruder, its anger at this threat clashing against the malice. Fear was not something Unique had experienced before, and it wasn't starting now. "You will not take her!" Its anger pushed forward with hostility, lashing towards the shadow with warning.

[Jovireh] The shadow admired Jovireh's continued attempts at bravery and whilst she might of succeeded by turning the grey into colour. That didn't mean that she had won just yet and the shadow wasn't about to give up one of its coveted prizes. Those on the outside could do what they wanted as the next phase meant complete exsanguination of their soul. Their abilities lost to them forever. So as the hybrid stood there, the shadow reasserted itself back into view. " Peekaboo I see you... it began before solidifying in front of her. " I'm willing to give you a chance to show me exactly how brave you are. Therefore I dare you to strike me down, to fight back and only then will you understand why I picked you".[T'Laara & Unique] " Noooooo... you can't take back control... must complete the next phase" the Shadow cried in anger and frustration. How dare this interloper continue its unwanted intrusion and allow its prey to fight back. The shadow began to lash out with its dark and unyielding vines as T'Laara used the storm against it, whilst Unique attempted to use itself to retaliate. This wasn't supposed to happen and as such the shadow drew strength from its brethren and the anomaly it called home. Anger, hate and everything that made it powerful caused the shadow to grow wider and taller. However that exertion would cost it dearly but it was a price it was willing to pay in order to keep hold of T'Laara. Although as it neared both of the meddlesome fools, it couldn't maintain the vines in different directions. The sandstorm preventing it from taking T'Laara so it concentrated on Unique. " You'll pay for this..." it stuttered as some vines began to break off.

[Ensign Evorís - Operations to Turbolift to Sickbay, Front Ear] If Evorís had the presence of mind to form speech, he might have used it to console the Captain’s concern for his condition. As it were, he could do no more than wade through the shadows of his nerves, and offer a nod of compliance. There was something in the woman’s voice that inspired obedience and expediency, and it wasn’t mere authority, or the threat of consequence. Still, Evorís hesitated. He’d avoided infirmaries many times throughout his Starfleet training; it felt odd to flee toward one now, while the station was still in peril. He glanced once more at the liquid on his fingers, and conceded that it would be beneficial for the medical staff on shift to analyze the substance, and what could be done to prevent future cases. Surely, this kind of internal chemical reaction did not bode well for the state of his internal organs. “Oui,” he confirmed with a nod toward Crewman Bremmer, and led the way toward the turbolift. It was a short trip down to Deck 10, but nevertheless Evorís was grateful for the turbolift’s handhold, to assist in keeping him upright. Though the stimulant had done its job in warding off the sharper edges of his fatigue, there was nothing it could do for his katra. The emptiness ached within him, like a hunger that could not be satisfied, and his fingers were numb against the turbolift wall. Evorís closed his eyes against the blurry vision and pounding headache, and once again concentrated on preservation. It was not usually this difficult. The turbolift doors slid open, and Evorís’ eyes followed suit, shifting to address Bremmer before he exited the lift. “It is not necessary to accompany me further. Merci— ah, thank you for your assistance.” In a station-wide emergency, it would be illogical to waste time escorting him the short distance from the turbolift to the sickbay entrance, though he did not expend the energy to notice if she did— or if any Shadow had followed them. His hand met the edge of the frame, and he stumbled across the sickbay threshold, shoulders slumped as he located the nearest physician. “Ensign Evorís, docteur,” he stated, and leaned heavily into the nearest surface. Black liquid trickled slowly down his cheeks like tears. “It appears my katra is leaking through my eyes.”Now was not a good time for cheek, was it?

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Sickbay]The sudden movement of the plant was enough to make him jump, and he watched in fascination as it moved to the Vulcan's side. It was obvious it knew her, perhaps even cared about her... And a moment later the thin waving line on the monitor spiked with activity. "It's helping her..." he commented to the others as he watched with fascination. It seemed they didn't need to find a way to ask for its help after all. Grabbing the tricorder, he set it on the tray beside T'Laara's biobed, set to scan both continuously. This was perhaps the first medical record of telepathic contact between plant and person, and Riyo wasn't about to waste the opportunity. Hearing Dr. Floren speak Leanna's name pulled him back to the dangers at hand, and he spun around to look at her, breathing a sigh of relief as he saw the faint improvement. The question posed to him made him pause, though, as he tried to figure out if it was his professional experience or personal desire that wanted to answer in the affirmative. "I have to trust your judgment," he replied after a moment. Filling another hypospray with the treatment he'd concocted, he set it on the tray beside Lea. "Do what you feel is best." Riyo reached forward to caress her cheek softly, issuing a silent prayer to the Prophets to help her. He hated feeling this helpless... But the best thing he could do for her now was to treat his other patients. With the plant apparently taking care of T'Laara, he moved to Jovireh's side, and was pleased to see an increase of activity in her paracortex as well. Not as much as the Vulcan's, though... Perhaps Floren was right that they needed a telepathic boost on top of the medical treatment. Hopefully the plant would be willing and able to help the others as well. The Sickbay doors hissed open, and he glanced up to see yet another patient walk in. Though judging by the black streaks from his eyes, he was in worse condition than the other conscious two. "Don't worry, Ensign. The treatment we've come up with seems to be working," he spoke reassuringly as he moved to help the newcomer to one of the few available biobeds. "Just let me run a quick scan here to make sure we're still dealing with the same thing." He grabbed another tricorder and got to work.

[Operations - Command Deck] For a moment Thea wondered if Evoris was going to insist that he was okay and had no intention of going to Sickbay. However the CO was relieved when the Ensign acknowledged her and Bremmer and Thea watched as they departed Ops. If it had come to it, Thea would of arranged an emergency beam out. Although luckily she didn't have to pull rank and now Evoris would get the help he needed. The fact that he was showing visible signs similar to their hopefully one and only fatality, would no doubt aid the medics, with understanding this affliction a little more. Okay it was more complicated than an illness but that's what Thea chose to see it as, due to what the Shadows had done to her people. As much as they had the opportunity to learn from it, this wasn't a normal first contact situation, not when it was stealing the very essence of a person. There was also the threats and complete disregard of them as it essentially was treating them like prey. It had also chosen to terrify those who didn't have psionic abilities and Thea wasn't going to just sit there and let it destroy everything. Taking a deep breath, Thea resumed her position near the empty console, her mind ticking over with details and ideas until Mila spoke up. " Captain, something strange seems to be happening to the anomaly. I'm getting fluctuations, lots of them as if it's struggling to maintain its shape and brightness"." Interesting, I wonder if it's connected to whatever treatment Sickbay are using or if the shadow can only maintain its presence for so long. Until we know for definite keep monitoring it Ensign and I'll update Sickbay".Mila acknowledged the CO with an affirmative nod and returned to the sensors as Thea contemplated what to say as she also wanted to update them on Evoris. It might not be useful but at least they could eliminate the possibility of a connection. Yet if there was one, then maybe this was how they saved their people and stop the shadows completely. =/\= Baker to Sickbay, as you'll be aware I've sent Ensign Evoris down to you. He exhibited signs of the black like blood which as you know corresponds with what happened earlier. We've also found a possible correlation between the so called shadows and an anomaly not far from the station. I believe that whatever treatment you are using is also having an effect on it. Keep doing what you're doing and we'll monitor things from up here and see if my theory is correct or not =/\=

[ T’Laara - ?] Even as her attention was consumed by the storm within and without, she was aware of Unique’s persistent presence. The wind ripped into the shadow, but did not harm the plant. She didn’t know what the shadow’s ‘next phase’ was, but she had to stop it, here and now. Especially if Unique was there; she was supposed to be the one watching out for it. Something fierce burned within her; as long as she was still standing, the shadow would not touch it. With all her strength of will T’Laara directed the storm to follow the shadow, tearing into it even as it grew. Straining as the shadow strengthened to match, she directed all of her effort into protecting Unique. “No. You will pay for this.”Thea Baker Jovireh Velal

[PO1 Jovireh Velal - Dreamland - Ghost Ship]The creature appeared again, offering a challenge. Jovireh's smirk only grew. It thought it was still in control... But it had no idea what she was doing. The bulkhead beside her shifted, turning into a panel, and she pressed her palm against it. Mental barriers in the form of forcefields appeared around the creature. "urru Areinnye.[fn]Go to hell.[/fn]" With that, she turned her back to the shadow and began to follow the green lights that were designed to lead her out of the dream.

[Unique - T'Laara's mind]Unique didn't stop its assault, even when it could feel T'Laara's presence growing stronger. She, too, began to lash out at the Intruder, but there was something more. She was protecting it... It hadn't expected that when she was the one in danger. From each side they continued to wear it down, and Unique could feel the Intruder growing weaker even as it attempted to make itself seem stronger. "Leave this place!" It demanded with a force of will pressing against the shadow, compelling it to obey.

[ Cwm Eliska Bremmer - Ops - Front Ear Station ]For a moment, Bremmer wondered if the Ensign would start moving, but eventually he did and as he moved towards the turbolift, the Crewman moved to place herself between him and the shadow and eventually walked backwards, rifle up, until she entered the lift and the doors hissed shut. And only then did the weapon come down and she took a deep breath. While she was glad to be away from that eldritch threat, leaving the Captain and her team to deal with it without her. However, before long the lift stopped near Primary Sickbay, Evoris wasted no time in trying to dismiss Bremmer. Now, that was tempting all right... but no. "Sorry, Mister Evoris. The Captain told me to escort you right to Sickbay, so I'm going to do just that."And, well, he could put her on report, but that was one that would stop dead given he was dealing with orders from a much higher authority. And besides, getting to Sickbay meant something else at this time. And sure enough, when they arrived Doc Paawin was right in there, checking the Vulcan; it would seem that they'd indeed come up with some way to deal with whatever was happening, and while that was well beyond Bremmer's pay grade and education level, she could understand at least that much. "Hey, Doc, while I'm here, how's Jov... PO Velal?"Well, the least she could do was indeed to check in on her new boss and esteemed colleague.

[[NPC] Dr. Floren Rafa & Ensign Ic Arbrell— Sickbay, Front Ear] In any other context, whatever you think is best was a loaded statement to Floren Rafa. In any other crisis, he might have changed course. But there were reasons he’d been called away from the priesthood and into medicine— and this was, with this preparation of his design at the ready, the precise reason for that call. Rafa had always erred too closely on the side of caution. Too prudent, too vigilant, too discreet— not enough. It was a lesson from the Prophets. And after the Captain’s message, he was certain of it. “I told you we were under attack.” Rafa nodded to his colleague, accepting the responsibility of clinical judgment. A soft hiss transferred the formulation into Leanna’s bloodstream. Then, carefully, to the others still asleep. He held his breath around the plant, careful not to pay the debris around its roots too much mind. When their newest patient arrived, he cast a glance in the ensign’s direction as he was moved into a biobed, and paused at the sight of the black streaming down the Vulcan’s cheeks. There was little time to greet the returning security crewmember who arrived with him, but he offered her a nod in gratitude for the escort. He’d let Paawin answer her question for the sake of continuity of correspondence. In the meantime, he released the hypospray against Evoris’ neck. No sooner had he left the ensign's side to return to Leanna’s, a certain Betazoid hurried into his place. Ic stared wide-eyed down at Evoris, momentarily very silent and very very still. But only for a moment. The station had begun to shift again, loudly. “I was about to page you. Took you long enough.” Don’t you dare die.

[Jovireh] Ignoring the ever diminishing grasp of power as its brethren drew every bit of power in order to push ahead with the next phase. The shadow pursuing and challenging Jovireh tried to not let its weakness as the Romulan/Betazoid smirked at it. Curiosity at such a move peaked slightly, ready to laugh and scold at her pathetic attempt to continue her challenge. Summoning every last bit of its own strength, the shadow prepared to strike until it found itself surrounded by forcefields. Anger replaced all emotion as it tried to escape, before it was told once more to go to hell. " Just you wait... you'll regret doing that".However as Jovireh left it caged in its new prison, it roared in anger and frustration. Slamming itself against the forcefield over and over again using all of its energy until it finally ceased to be. [T'Laara & Unique] What extra power it was able to drain from the others and at the cost of the one chasing Jovireh. The shadow pursuing the plant named Unique roared against such intrusion and injustice. More of its tendrils fell away as T'Laara directed the storm and all of her effort towards it. The combined effect of both Unique and T'Laara as they grew in strength and protected one another was an onslaught it hadn't expected. Nothing had ever stood in its way like this before and for the first time, it realised that losing was an extreme possibility. " No this can't be, you're supposed to surrender to me.... must complete.. must conquer..." Its words started to flounder, unable to fight any longer as it began to shrink. Its substance ebbing away until finally it burst and disappeared from view.

[Dream Realm] Still slightly disorientated from where she had escaped from her cage. Leanna ignored the shadow as she got her bearings and began to run. This time she knew where she had to go and nothing was going to prevent her from reaching her safe haven. The shadow continued its pursuit of its prey, calling, cajoling and doing everything it could to trip the Betazoid up. Unlike its brethren that had fallen at the hands of their victims, this shadow retained its strength. However as the scenery began to change around them, it faltered slightly as it realised that Leanna was regaining her abilities. Until now it had dismissed the notion that she could and that ultimately it would win and claim her forever. Then again it wasn't about to be defeated and as the path narrowed and Leanna reached the sanctuary of the family residence on Kerelia. The shadow roared as it tried to gain entry, refusing to give up as Leanna's mental shields struggled to keep it at bay. " Got to be strong... got to fight" Leanna repeated, feeling weak as she used everything she still had to stop the shadow from getting her.
For those watching, Leanna's vitals did get stronger but there was a noticeable sign that she was still struggling.

[Ensign Enola - Sickbay] "That's right," she muttered in response to Ic's comment that he had said they were under attack after all. She felt a little sick herself at the moment, but not that she would admit it. Staying logical as long as she could. When Evoris walked through the door, and to say the least nothing looked good at all, Ic already jumped up and so Enola didn't think it's necessary to do the same. All of them rushing at him would hardly be the right thing to do now. At least that's how Enola would feel if she were in his position. She just nodded at him. If he wanted, he could come snuggle after his examination, but Enola couldn't guarantee then that she wouldn't go crazy at some point. She had cuddled as much today as she might in ten years, and if anyone else cuddled her, she would...why was she so irritable all of a sudden? She took a deep breath and then tensely watched the scenario in the infirmary. Stay calm and try not to go crazy.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Sickbay]With the patients all treated, and Ic talking to Evoris to keep him awake, he turned to the Crewman with a reassuring smile. "She's showing quite a bit of improvement. With any luck, she and the others will start waking up soon." Of course, he couldn't guarantee that outcome, but from what he was seeing on the monitors, even Leanna's paracortex was showing more activity. Not as much as Jov and T'Laara though, which he was doing his best not to think or worry about. She'd pull through this. She had to. "Thank you for bringing the Ensign down. Hopefully his additional symptoms will help learn how to prevent this from occurring in the future." The scan he'd taken of the black substance was unlike anything he'd seen before. Normally he'd consider that to mean he was worse off than the others, but given that he was still conscious and talking, Riyo wasn't sure that was the case.

[Ensign Evorís - Sickbay, Front Ear] Evorís did not resist nor acknowledge Bremmer’s insistence to accompany him, and he responded to the medical officer’s directions with disciplined compliance. Though it was functionally unnecessary, he couldn’t help but indulge in the external sensation of assistance; he was so numb and vacant otherwise. Wasn’t that the reason for his daily steaming coffee, and the winding tendrils of spice? And now, it had spread to his wrists. His eyes glazed over the other occupants of the room, and tracked the second figure like a tide of vines— here, here, and then gone. It was all grey, until it was gold, until it was blue. He looked up, and sunk into the darkness that had claimed scleras. It was somewhat ironic, to meet again in the sickbay, of all places. “Icare,” he addressed the Betazoid, somewhat hesitantly, and pushed up from his elbows to a more upright sitting position. “Je suis désolé, I was unaware that my presence was required in sickbay.” He was of no more use to the Captain, so it was just as well that he filled the space with the Betazoid’s requests. “How can I be of assistance?”
