{Quotes: Left Ear, Syl, Baker} [Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Serenity - Caves]When Charlie released her hand, Syl took that as a sign she no longer needed - or wanted - help, and turned her own attention to the nearest patient that was struggling to get off their cot. Moving in to assist them, a suddenly calamity drew her gaze towards the entrance where a Klingon woman was about to fire upon one of the other patients. Before Syl could call out a warning, Left Ear had closed the distance and was working on shredding the Klingon invader in a most vicious fashion. The human's jaw dropped as she stood there, trying to process the sudden flurry of events unfolding before her. Charlie grabbed a dropped disruptor and aimed it at the Klingon. More invaders appeared, but two were blocked by a sudden collapse of the ceiling. Niles flew off his cot and tackled the remainder, but that was as much as he could do with his fresh amputation. Syl just stood there, paralyzed by indecision, until she felt a hand grip her shoulder. "Get me out of here," rasped the patient she'd been helping. She nodded, adjusting his arm around her shoulders and wrapping her own arm around his back, bracing his weight as he slid off the cot and stumbled towards the far cavern. [ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Makeshift Hospital] Left Ear saw nothing and heard nothing even as her nose filled with stone dust as part of the cave collapsed and cut off two of the raiders from their comrades. All she could taste and smell was Klingon blood. Her claws could gain no purchase through or around her enemy's armor. The Klingon didn't acknowledge the puny human's words except to turn so that the damned feline's body was blocking any truly damaging shot. There was fur flying everywhere and getting into her eyes and nose, the flailing tail periodically blocking her vision. She finally realized that she wasn't going to be able to get to her knife; the furred body was too much in the way, so the raider used the only other weapon she had at her disposal - her great strength. Left Ear grunted as the Klingon suddenly stopped trying to push her off and clamped powerful arms around her midsection and started squeezing. She had to end this. The Sivaoan had realized that her tail wasn't doing any damage to her opponent's head, so she whipped the prehensile appendage further back and wrapped it around a thick hank of hair. The maneuver surprised the Klingon, being unused to fighting hand-to-hand with an enemy that had an extra limb to fight with. Before she could brace herself, Left Ear was able to pry the Klingon's head back and sink razor-sharp teeth into her throat. The Klingon collapsed, gurgling as she tried to breath. Left Ear shoved away, wretching and heaving, sticky blood coating her white fur and tongue. She couldn't get rid of the awful taste, and now there was bile on top of it. Sound and sight and smell roared back, and Left Ear knew she needed to get up, but she was frozen on all fours as she tried to bring up every meal she'd ever eaten. As she vomited, the healer vaguely recognized that she probably had some broken or bruised ribs. [ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] Some of the debris had aggravated the sensitive and just healed skin that was once a gaping gash in her side and back. However Thea simply grimaced and bit back a colourful curse as she righted herself and shook off small pieces of rock. The dust and other detriment would wait as she then refocused on the room. Just in time to see Niles launch himself at the remaining attacker who had been left slightly dazed by the explosion. Whilst favourable for herself and the others, she had to do something to help and with that Thea got creative. Improvisation without a phaser or other weapon wasn't too difficult for a physician, even more so with a medkit to hand. So as Niles continued his onslaught despite the scream of pain. Thea quickly found what she was looking for, loading up the hypo as Syl helped a patient and Left Ear finished dealing with the Klingon. The gurgling noise coming from the downed attacker and the Sivaoan vomiting became background noise as Thea rushed to help Niles. Finding a suitable vantage point, Thea injected the attacker with a paralytic that would incapacitate and enable them to question their prisoner. " Mr Niles, you did good but now it's time to rest" she said as gently moved the tactical officer off the other man. " I've given him a paralytic, it'll last a couple of hours, so enough time for us to question him".That last part was met by a look of pure malice from the Raider that she had just injected but it was over for him, as it was now time for answers. [...] [Andrus the Artist - Caves, Serenity]When Andrus emerged from the passageway, having completed his first roundtrip to the cavern, he was greeted with chaos. There was no other way to describe it - the once almost-catatonic redhead was waving around a disrupter, there was a giant cat throwing up a lung, a one-legged man was wrestling with someone on the ground, and the doctor was using a hypospray as though it was a weapon. Not to mention the entrance to the hospital had caved in... He reached out a hand toward the Sivaoan, then pulled it back, unsure as to whether or not any contact would be accepted at this time. "Are you alright?" He asked instead. He cast about for something, anything to offer the poorly felinoid, and when he caught sight of a towel he grabbed it. "Here," Andrus offered, passing over the cloth. He caught sight of movement then, and the other young woman he'd met just moments earlier had begun to help with the evacuation. Immediately he approached. "Let me give you a hand." He moved to the other side of the patient so they could distribute the weight better. "I don't think I want to know what's going on in here, so I'm happy for the distraction," he confided, his smooth voice soft and low. "I am Andrus, by the way."

While she was fit enough to pass Starfleet standards, that was about as far as her body went. Already her knees and shoulder were aching from the weight of the patient and the rocky ground beneath her feet. But she hadn't broken a bone yet, or sprained an ankle, and the noise and lights from the weapons fire hadn't triggered a migraine thanks to her new implant. All in all, she considered that good. As the patient's weight was shifted slightly away from her, it made the trip down into the next cavern go much faster. Hopefully with the entrance now blocked off and the raiders incapacitated, they could take a breath.

{Quoted Posts} [CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Caves]As soon as Stout and Beck had retrieved Niles and retreated to safety, Jovireh allowed herself a moment to press low against the boulder and turn her attention to her burned leg. It only took a few seconds to rip away the charred fabric of her pants so it didn't continue to aggrivate the raw and damaged nerves, then she was resuming her fire. Bodies covered the floor of the cavern ahead, and still they kept coming. Just how many were there?! Hearing Quinn's voice above the roar of weapons fire, she glanced over at him. There was a flicker of hesitation in her eyes as she wondered if she'd be able to pull off such a maneuver in her current physical condition, but that hesitation was quickly replaced by firm resolve. This was her job. Her life. If this was how she went down, at least she'd be remembered for giving her all and letting nothing hold her back. So she gave a nod of confirmation and shifted position, most of her weight still balanced on her left leg while she tentatively brought her right beneath her. A few deep breaths to fight against the pain, and then Quinn gave the signal. Trusting the others to cover her, Jov surged from behind the rock and stepped forward, firing rapidly at the assailant closest to her until he fell. The several limping steps to the next boulder felt like an eternity, the agony searing through her entire leg with each movement, but finally she dropped back down into relative safety. It took her a moment to breathe and regain her focus, and then she was shifting once more to brace her left side against the boulder to use it for leverage as she resumed firing. After dropping the next closest assailant, she raised her hand to wave Shavan forward. "Mark!" It took all of her will and focus to be able to maintain aim as she continued firing on the advancing troop. Sweat poured down her face and soaked through her clothes, stinging the scrapes as salt and dirt mixed with blood; her left arm shook with the struggle of keeping the disruptor steady as the laceration scraped against the boulder. She was definitely going to need a pretty heavy dose of antibiotics after this. If she even survived long enough to be treated. [Raiders - Caves] Bravo didn't care if it took every last ounce of strength and determination in order to succeed with their plan. Their numbers maybe fewer thanks to the ongoing fight but he wasn't about to succumb to the fate of his brethren. Even when his disruptor started to malfunction, he resorted to attacking with his hands, unleashing his full anger on those who had silenced his men with their explosives, stun settings and other things that were used as weapons. In his haste and only seeing through the fog that was his fury, Bravo hadn't seen the phaser blast that had been aimed at him by Shavan. Nor did the leader feel it strike him until it was too late and darkness claimed him. Unceremoniously falling onto the bodies of two of his men, all thoughts of victory extinguished. [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Caves, Serenity] Above the sound of weapons fire, he heard Quinn’s voice call out orders. Preparing to move, Shavan listened intently, and at the mark he joined in, firing rapidly to cover Jovireh’s advance. When she had made it and signaled back to him, he dashed forward. Stepping around the bodies of Bravo and the other raiders, he ran further up the tunnel amid the rush of covering fire, then dived behind a boulder once again. “Mark!” he called back to Quinn in his next breath, continuing to fire at the remaining raiders. The fight was turning in their favor, and they were no longer outnumbered. Another shot from his phaser hit its target with precision, and yet another of them fell. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Caves, Serenity] Upon hearing, Shavan's signal Quinn moved forward and advanced as well. It didn't take long for the rest of their subordinates to pick up on the strategy and begin to advance in sync with the others. After a few volleys, the enemy fire lessened as targets were hit and stunned. In fact, one of the raiders seemed relentless on seeing the battle end and rushed towards them. It was Shavan's phaser blast that nailed him, and eventually he fell to the ground. There were a few more than seemed torn between fleeing and surrendering, but it was evident that the battle was over... for now. With the firefight seemingly at an end, Quinn approached some of the fallen raiders, his weapon still out. "Fortify our position here," he said to some of the crew that had been apart of the firefight. "We're not going to give chase until we know what's waiting for us." Isaiah sighed and finally holstered his weapon. He leaned down and slid his arms beneath Bravo's as he prepared to drag the raider back along with him. He ordered another pair of crewmen to begin securing the others. "Let's get these people back... maybe get some answers out of them," Isaiah said. He then turned towards Shavan. "Lieutenant, help the Chief back to medical so that someone can take a look at that leg." There was certainly more that could be seen after, but that had been one of her earlier injuries. Quinn knew a thing or two about playing hurt, and he also knew when not to push one's luck. "That's an order, Chief. Get checked out, and don't dawdle. We don't need you distracted when we begin to question our prisoners."The science officer wasn't about to stand there for a debate as he began to drag the raider deeper into the caves. Most of the crew began to follow their orders. People began to move to hold the point that they had advanced to. Others followed Quinn in dragging the prisoners deeper into the cave while a few others kept their weapons trained on those still lying unconscious until they could be carried back as well.

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Caves]Shavan, and then Quinn, advanced forward, and those holding the defensive line moved closer. One by one the invaders fell, and Jovireh prayed this was over before she was ordered to advance again. Even without putting any weight on her right leg, the pain was making her vision blur. When a shot missed its mark and struck the cavern wall behind the approaching raider, the Romulan hybrid knew she was done. Shifting to press her back against the boulder that was providing her cover, she pushed her left foot out from under her and slid to the ground. A wave of nausea and lightheadedness flooded her, and she leaned towards the cave wall, certain she was about to be sick. Though her skin paled several shades, and her body trembled relentlessly, the nausea seemed to pass so long as she didn't move. The sounds of the firefight slowed to a strange sort of silence, broken by scuffling and distant orders. Hearing one such order directed at her - to let the medics take care of her before they questioned the assailants, Jov nodded and straightened, but had to lean her head back against the rock as the world spun. This was one time she had no intentions of arguing. "Aye, sir," she managed weakly, before taking a deep breath to steady her head and opening her eyes to find Shavan.

She could surmise what he was doing, and the transmission he sent to Chel-E confirmed her suspicions. He had scanned her, and could tell that she was damaged. "I'm fine," she said. That was a lie... and probably one that Olsen wouldn't accept. She rolled her eyes. You couldn't deceive someone that could literally see right through you. Oslen then sent another transmission, stating that it was time to go. "Unless there's a doctor that's not a fleeter around here...." Kova began. However, it was Chel-E who began to sift through the local registry for citizens on Serenity. The personnel file for a few people came into view. Kova's brow furrowed. "Traitor," she muttered in response to Chel-E's search. "Fine... fine," Kova said. She shifted to use the rifle to brace her weight as she stood to her feet. A very audible groan of pain left her lips. She stared over at the raider. It was obvious that he wouldn't be going anywhere soon. She spit out some of the blood that had filled her mouth once again as she stood, the blue liquid a stark contrast from the cave floor. "One of the Serenity medics... go." [ Mila - Bridge, USS Mac] As Mila listened to the response from Ensign Vulbrix, a small shout of relieved victory could be heard, from the on duty tactical officer as she snared one of the remaining enemy ships. Not that Mila blamed Michaels for the momentary burst of emotion, before responding to Myker. =/\= Acknowledged Ensign, that confirms what we picked up on sensors before our systems were affected by some kind of neutraliser weapon. Thank the Chief for us as that's what enabled us to get through to you and understood, we'll start pinpointing it's exact location =/\=As she was then asked how they were doing, Mila was honest with Myker as the officer in charge issued orders. =/\= We lost some of our shuttles and other defenses. However systems are back online and if you heard that shout earlier, we managed to capture one of the remaining enemy ships. We're also working on getting reinforcements to the surface, I'll keep you updated, Mila out =/\=

[ Oskar - Makeshift Hospital] Oskar was far from frightened as the attractive Redhead wielding M'Keta's disruptor got closer, before he felt the cold hard metal underneath his chin. He had faced death many times and considering his current predicament would happily welcome it with open arms, rather than end up in some penal colony. Assuming their benefactors would allow that to happen as they were supposed to leave no trail or reveal their identity. For now Oskar continued to play this sick and twisted game as his eyes twinkled with malice. " Why should I, when I have you to do that for me..." He began, enjoying the coldness and remaining trauma behind her eyes and tone. Each word appealed to the evil within, despite the nuzzle being pushed harder into his face. At first he just let her, until the one named Niles decided to join in and threaten him, if he didn't play nice. Not that Oskar cared about who was Fleet and who wasn't as they would been an unfortunate bonus if the raid had succeeded. Of course they still had their ship in orbit, so maybe it wasn't over just yet even if he died. " This isn't about stupid reports or who belongs to your precious fleet or not. I was here to do a job and it doesn't matter if I die...". ******************* [ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] The idea of using something to loosen the attacker's tongue was abhorrent to Thea, but these weren't exactly ideal circumstances. A cocky son of a goat with an attitude to match as Niles added to the pressure that was being put on him. Whether or not it would work, depended on the incapacitated man who had inadvertently let some vital information be revealed. He likely hadn't realised thanks to his trying to be a martyr and failing and hopefully they could find out more. Whilst he was being dealt with, Thea tapped her commbadge in the hope that she could find out what was going on outside and update them at the same time. =/\= Baker to whoever is in the vicinity, there's been a cave in at the entrance to the hospital. One attacker is down and there's another currently incapacitated and being questioned. So far we've managed to get out of him that he was here to do a job... =/\= Keeping the channel open, Thea looked to Left Ear who had been trying to clean herself. Her next job was to check on the Cadet once she had heard from the others.

[Lt. Shavan Th’zhaar - Caves, Serenity] The advance continued, the last raiders fell, and just like that, the fight was over for the moment. Shavan straightened up, listening to Quinn’s orders. “Yes, sir,” he nodded quickly, already seeking out Jovireh. He wondered doubtfully if they’d have any luck interrogating the surviving raiders, but had no objection to his own task… especially when he approached Jovireh and saw the extent of her injuries. For the first time since this all began, he allowed a moment of concern. “Hey… come on.” He bent down and put her arm around his shoulders, then reached around her and pulled her up with him, supporting her weight. Carefully, Shavan led them back to the makeshift hospital, only to stop short at the rubble blocking the way. Thea’s voice came through the comms, and the fate of the attackers that had slipped past them was revealed. As well as a statement of the obvious. He turned to look at Jovireh, worry setting in as he tried to remember the map of the caves and look around for anyone else who could help. =/\= Th’zhaar to Baker. [CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Caves]It was a relief to see Shavan didn't appear to have any injuries beyond the cuts from the debris she'd seen earlier. Allowing him to help her stand and walk towards the back of the caves, she tried - and failed - to bite back the whimpers of pain that came with every step. Of all the injuries she'd sustained in her lifetime, Jovireh had never been burned this badly before, and it was an experience she definitely did not want to repeat. When they stopped, she looked up, feeling a wave of dread sink in at the sight of the blockage in front of them. Thea's voice over the com was a relief though, and she forced a wry grin. "Guess it's a good thing I'm not dying yet." She didn't need to look at the dark green outline of her injuries to know the infection had already set in. Downside to spending most of her life in space was that her immune system couldn't fight off bacteria very well. Her body was still trembling from the shock and the adrenaline crash, and another wave of lightheadedness caused her to lean against Shavan a little more, her hand gripping his shoulder to keep herself upright.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Caves, Serenity Colony ]Niles was not entirely certain of how his suggestion of drugging their aggressor was going to be received. The Skipper did have a pretty solid moral compass and she might have some objections to that kind of off-label use of medical stores, especially given there was no telling when they might be able to get relief from anywhere or what kind of casualties were actually involved in their current situation. So, it was a bit of a surprise when not only she didn't shoot down the notion out of hand, but actually suggested very clearly that cooperation was indeed in their captive's best interest. A captive who didn't seem entirely impressed by Charlie Fox pointing a weapon at him, and actually tried to sound tough at the time. Seriously, did these people really think that threatening rape and other form of violence as a gesture of defiance was actually going to work? Well, apparently not so well, given that the journalist was really driving the muzzle of her weapon hard against him. Now, being crippled, Josh did not particularly have access to his ability to walk around, but he did have an idea... "I'd be nice to the lady if I was you," he said. Granted, he didn't look particularly threatening, sitting there, pale and perspiring. But he still had a weapon in his hand... not that he was entirely too sure of his ability to hold it steadily right about now. Not that he was planning on letting the raider know that. "See, some of us here are Starfleet so we can't really do a whole lot to make you talk. But she's not. Now, we're all riding the high from combat stress, and things got really confused really fast here, so who's to know what we'll actually wind up recalling when we write our reports?"And just like that, he let that implied threat hang in the air. Of course, murder in cold blood wasn't something he intended to let happen without at least objecting, and the Captain, well, she did have a hard edge that she kept well hidden more often that not but he doubted she'd let too much happen to the raider in question now that he was in custody. [ Oskar - Makeshift Hospital] Oskar was far from frightened as the attractive Redhead wielding M'Keta's disruptor got closer, before he felt the cold hard metal underneath his chin. Her next job was to check on the Cadet once she had heard from the others. [Charlie Fox - Makeshift Hospital, Caves]Charlie's head was cocked as she listened to Josh's words. They were Starfleet, she was not - she was not beholden to their rules. It would be so easy. She could just squeeze and they could just pretend they hadn't seen it. Would they really leave it from their reports? The Doctor, what would she say? He'd killed, she was sure of that. Innocent colonists. He'd hurt everyone on Serenity. He'd ruined everything for her. Charlie used to have her rules against this kind of thing... Mentally, she shook herself. She was sliding toward something she should be avoiding; her mind was trying to force some sort of resolution, but it looked more like wrongful retribution. She'd never been violent before. Not like this. When had that changed? She ignored his useless, ineffective goading the murderer was spouting, and focused in on the dramatic fatalism instead. "Of course you're here on a job," she said, looking for all the world like she was growing bored with the whole thing, "You hardly came all the way here to kill us for some fried doughnuts."Charlie pulled the muzzle of her gun, and eyed the indentation it had left with some detached curiosity. She lined it back up perfectly and pressed in again. "Can't spend credits if you're dead," she pointed out, seeing a way in and slowly building up to exploiting it. "Pros always insist on something upfront for jobs like this. Only morons work for free."She cocked her head again and glanced toward Josh, a question on her face. "He look like a moron to you?"

[[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Serenity - Caves]Well... Charlie was obviously not back to normal... But she was now doing what she could to help the others, so Syl focused her attention on guiding the hobbling patient away from the chaos. When the man who had led them to the medical area came over to help, she nodded her gratitude with a wry grin. "I'm Syl. Thanks for all your help." While she was fit enough to pass Starfleet standards, that was about as far as her body went. [Andrus the Artist - Caves, Serenity]"Thank you for your help," the tall man returned, smiling slightly. He was quite taken with the idea that he was being thanked for helping, when it was she, someone who did not even belong to this colony, who was doing so much for them. "I'm Andrus."Together they successfully moved the patient into the cavern, and having spotted a free space, he directed Syl toward it. There, they could carefully lower the man onto the closed-cell foam pad that had been laid out. Once he was settled, a nearby medic hustled over to check everything out. Stepping backward, Andrus continued a side conversation with Syl. "I think it best if we separate the injured colonists from what's going on inside." He was heavily implying that what was happening would be deeply stressful for his people. He gestured back toward the way they came, wordlessly suggesting that they do another roundtrip together. "Then perhaps we can turn our focus to dealing with the blocked entrance. Any ideas, Syl?"

[ LT Joshua Niles - Caves, Serenity Colony ]{Quoted Posts} [ Oskar - Makeshift Hospital] Oskar was far from frightened as the attractive Redhead wielding M'Keta's disruptor got closer, before he felt the cold hard metal underneath his chin. Although Charlie was doing an extremely good job at trying to get answers from the remaining attacker.
Tag Charlie Fox Joshua Niles , soft tag all [Charlie Fox - Makeshift Hospital, Caves]Charlie's head was cocked as she listened to Josh's words.
Tags: Joshua Niles , Thea Baker The Lieutenant managed a chuckle from where he sat. It was a dry and mirthless sound, and he actually wound up wincing as that sharp sound caused just enough movement to send a wave of pain coursing from his now inexistent foot all the way to his hip. Phantom pain was so much bloody fun. But at least he could still think mostly straight, and between the aggressor's bravado and Charlie's presence, the Captain doing her thing was almost forgotten. Normally, he could split his focus, collate immense amounts of information and turn it into something digestible and actionable, but right now he had to focus on a single task. Not only because the fog that was impeding his brain was precluding any sort of real multitasking, but if he allowed his mind to wander, he would fall victim to the pain, and eventually to unconsciousness. So long as he was upright, thinking and talking, it was the sort of information that Doctor Baker and Cadet to-Ennien could use to keep track of his vitals; that he'd learned in his advanced first aid course: a casualty that's screaming (or talking) was a good sign: meant they were conscious, had a clear airway, and a pulse. But when the journalist asked her question, he actually managed a wry grin. "A moron or a fanatic. Hard to tell with these types." He let that sit for a moment, before continuing. "Let's see what we have here. You hit strictly residential areas on the surface. You didn't take out the landing pads or the warehouses so your group expect to strike rich here and you need at least some of the infrastructure. So your group has some economic sense. You really expect your backpay will actually go anywhere if you kick it? Sure they might have information on where you want that money to go, but you honestly think they'd expose themselves to being tracked by sending your share to your family or pet targ?"At least, trying to erode his faith in his people might be an idea. Who knew if it would work. "And you know what? I really hate pirates. So just as much as I'd love to see her blow your brains out, I'd much rather see you in a cell, getting sweated twenty hours a day until we track down your crew and drop a full task group in their lap. If you help, you might be free again in fifteen or twenty years. If not? I hope the idea of a three meter by meter and a half cell for the rest of your life appeals to you."

Tag: Syl O'Connell [Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Serenity - Caves]When they got the patient onto the cot, Syl stepped back and rubbed her shoulder, rotating it slightly. She had a hypospray with her pain medication in the bag that was still strapped around her torso - experience had taught her to never leave the station without it on her person - but it wouldn't do any good until she was able to rest and let it run its course. She'd be able to manage until they finished moving the patients, especially with his help. So the young human nodded and followed him back to the main area. Syl didn't particularly feel like watching the interrogation either. Moving over to a young woman with burns on her arms that was trying to get out of the cot on her own, Syl offered a few gentle words of reassurance as she helped her stand, before turning her thoughts to the question of clearing the blockage. "I might be able to come up with something, depending on what tools we have back here. We should probably wait until we know it's safe on the other side, though." For all they knew, those rocks were the only things keeping the invaders from storming the medical area. The sound of weapons fire had stopped, and she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not...

[ Oskar - Makeshift Hospital] " That's right Sweetheart, shame I never got to kill you.. it would of been so thrilling to watch a pretty little thing like you die" Oskar goaded, despite his captor showing signs of boredom. Whether it was a genuine tactic or not, Oskar admired her bravery and once this drug had worn off, he would see how brave she really was. Assuming he hadn't welcomed death by then. For now he watched with interest, letting his cockiness shine through as the Redhead moved the gun away. It might of only been a brief respite from having it mark his skin, however Oskar wasn't afraid as he felt the cold metal against him once more. Grinning as Charlie then attempted to anger him with the comments she made, before the one legged man waded in with his own opinions. Rolling his eyes in disgust as Niles prattled on, whilst thinking of ways to kill him. " Shut it hoppity... you have no idea " Oskar snapped angrily, before returning his attention to Charlie. " You're right, if I'm dead I can't spend the rest of the fortune that's coming my way. However we weren't supposed to get caught.. so it's better than the alternative, unless you want to make it worth my while". ******************* [ Thea - Makeshift Hospital] A wave of relief washed over Thea as Shavan answered her hail, before processing what he had said. It was definitely good news in terms of the attackers, however her heart sank upon hearing about injuries. This attack had cost so much already and until they could clear the debris, blocking the entrance, there was only one alternative that she could think of. Of course that would mean extra time on their journey but at least she could mention it. =/\= It's good to hear your voice Lieutenant and understood. There's the cavern that runs directly behind the caves, we've been taking patients there to keep them safe so that will be your best option until we can clear the entrance =/\= Whilst responding to Shavan, Thea hadn't ignored what was being said as Charlie continued her questionning. Although it was becoming apparent that their prisoner didn't care for Mr Niles as he answered Charlie's question. It was vital to keep watch on this conversation as they didn't want him to clam up and refuse to answer anymore questions.

{Quoted Posts} [ Ianto - Outside The Command Centre] The sounds and shouts coming from his fellow pirates as the colonists and their friends fought back, left Ianto with a decision to make. He could either be killed, stunned or try to make a deal with these people as right now he had nothing else to lose. This job was turning out to be more problematic, regardless of their earlier success and no payout was worth defeat at least not on his terms. Besides prison or one of those cushy penal colonies looked more and more appealing than death. Aside from a few cuts and burns, Ianto had remained relatively unscathed after finding a spot to preserve his life. Watching as more of his brethren fell before carefully making his way to the command post. He'd seen a couple of people stay inside and they were his only chance to make this work. When the door refused to open, Ianto started to bang loudly with his fists in order to be heard, before finally making his plea. "Let me in, I want to make a deal and I promise it'll be worth your time".[ Ensign Myker Vulbrix - Command Center, Serenity] Myker wasn’t sure if they’d succeeded, since the Mac didn’t respond to his first hail, again there was a flurry of sounds by the heavy doors and Myk glanced over at them. He could very quickly work out who was on the other side, that would involve dropping his shields though. That said, if the person were a risk to them and the colony he was obliged to figure that out...this thought process ran through his mind at high speed before his attention was once again diverted to the comms panel as a voice finally came through, it was somewhat broken up and there was some delay but Myk could make it out for the most part His immediate action was to look to Kaya, he knew their status but since the Trill had spoken he was inclined to listen and follow whatever came next. Of course her mind still lightly fogged, from the beer no doubt, which meant it took a moment longer. The woman did effectively summarise their situation and with a nod Myk then relayed her words, although slightly altered given his more calm demeanor. =/\=Ensign Mila, music to my ears. The colony was attacked, we have many in the caves trying to find a safe place. We have casualties. Phasers are being fired and some explosives are going off, some in defense. Chief Engineer Som disabled the dampening net for now. She believes it's being generated from orbit given its messy subroutines. How are you doing up there? =/\= Myk relayed as much of the information as he figured was needed, they didn’t have time for every minor detail. He had asked about the Mac’s situation to get a clear idea of where they stood, was the Mac ready to assist? It was an assessment of the whole situation. A voice was heard coming through the door, a raider wanting to make a deal. Myker once again looked to their Chief, he didn’t have the power to make those choices. What he did have the power to do was work out the motive of the person behind the voice. What are you thinking Chief? He asked Kaya as his own thoughts toyed with the idea that he could simply enter the mind of the Raider. It was an option he wouldn’t have considered a few years ago, but since Betazed and the war it came into his mind too easily. Contemplating the choice he had he fired another question at the Trill by the door. Do you trust him? Could he simply be using those words to gain entry or had there truly been enough of a victory that he was doubting which side to be on. Myker couldn’t know without using his unique skills so taking a breath he threw caution to the wind, and let his shielding drop, forcing his mind to give off a sense of calm, which although aimed at the Raider behind the door, would drift into anyone's mind within a close enough range. It was the type of calm that left everything vulnerable, open to his now searching mind as it passed through the mind of the Raider to find his true motive. He had to know if this was simply a ploy, or a way to gain the upper hand. [ Mila - Bridge, USS Mac] As Mila listened to the response from Ensign Vulbrix, a small shout of relieved victory could be heard, from the on duty tactical officer as she snared one of the remaining enemy ships.

"I thought you could read minds," Kaya pressed him. "You're Betazoid." Kaya knew that the common courtesy for Betazoids was to be respectful of the privacy of other species, but honestly, they could forget their pleases and thank yous when it came to horrible murderings. "Or see if comm badges work," she suggested. Most of her fellow crew hadn't left their badges in the beer tent. "Get someone with a phaser over here. I'm not exactly cleared to negotiate ceasefires. Are you?" No matter how high she'd rise in the ranks, even an Ensign would technically outrank her. That and she wasn't particularly diplomatic and not when her body was trying to process an ox's serving of wheat beer. There was more banging at the door. "I know you can hear me!" came Ianto's voice from the other side. "Just give us a second!" Kaya yelled back. "There's like twenty people in here," she lied baldly. [ Mara - Cavern Beyond The Caves] The evacuation of the makeshift hospital had been going considerably well, despite the constant worry and trying to avoid falling debris. For Mara, she never once thought that their rudimentary defenses and using the land to their advantage, would ever be needed. Although was extremely thankful that they had thought to extend that protection beyond the caves. People were gathering, huddled together or helping one another and it showed just how resilient that they were. There was a feeling of pride against adversity and Mara, wasn't about to stop as she prepared to go back to the hospital. That was until Tali appeared, with the kind of urgency that demanded the administrator's attention. Upon hearing the request to follow her and one name.. Taron, Mara moved as quickly as the adrenaline would allow. If Taron wanted to see her, it was serious and knew that the evacuation would continue until she returned. Finding the Betazoid farmer was easy enough as she navigated through the people gathered and the path that Tali took. Seeing the reason for the call, Mara stopped just short of Talon and spoke to him. "Tali found me like you asked and I see the reason why" she said her voice bitter as she looked to the man that they had restrained. [ Taron Lars (bio) | Refuge in the caverns ]Taron was relieved to see his old friend Mara alive and unharmed and grateful the way had been clear for her and the little spy to find them unfollowed. He hoped a smile was greeting enough. "His name is Karesh," Taron began. He'd discovered as much from rooting around in his mind. "Familiar isn't he? He was there when those 'miners' came asking about the mineral."Taron was referring to what they'd all begun to cheekily call serenite. It could be found in rich veins throughout the mountain range, and had unique properties attractive to weapons manufacturers. When the colony had been approached with aggressive negotiations to allow mining rights, Serenity's council had refused and sent the visitors on their way. Taron had just presumed keep the shiny stuff in the hills. Around Taron, he felt the ire of many of his neighbors boiling at the revelation. He raised a hand to wordlessly request patience. "They have a ship in orbit. Perhaps this is something our friends beyond the clouds would be interested to know."The calm way of the Betazed (and his skill with a bludgeon) belied a past that was far less peaceful - he'd be witness to no further violence. All he wanted was to never see this man or any of his friends again. Karesh found some words. "It didn't have to be this way," he said. "No. It didn't not."Thea Baker (Mara)
