[Charlie Fox - Town Square, Serenity]Charlie was actually enjoying herself. What an absolutely foreign concept of late. But she did feel good... Well, perhaps that was a little bit of an exaggeration, it was more like a strange kind of peace. It had taken weeks for her to feel some semblance of normality after they'd returned from Caldonia, and another month at least before her enthusiasm for her work had begun to return. There was some colour in her cheeks, she'd been putting on weight, and some of her smiles even appeared less sardonic, and more genuinely pleased again. It had been largely down to her time on Arkaria, she knew. She'd stayed after the Mac crew had left, happy that they'd managed to wrangle Gul du Toollamé once again, but Charlie had been offered a unique opportunity to take a glimpse inside the mind of a prolific serial killer. And then there'd been Deywa, the other reason that she'd wanted to stay and risk frostbite in the mountains next to the frozen lakes. She'd known that it was just a fling; a holiday romance, but it had felt so normal. So right, so vital. The time had flown by far too quickly, as it tends to do, but she'd been ready to receive that call from Spil when it came. Her editor reminded her in his straightforward, Vulcan way, that she was pushing her luck, and even snaring an interview with Kalda Kark could not buy her any more free vacation days. The sound of a drinking song raised the corners of her mouth again as Charlie passed by the Beer Tent. As she strolled passed the opening, entrance flaps tied back to reveal the revelries inside, she caught a glimpse of her friend, Kaya. She would absolutely be joining in the fun in that tent, but experience dictated that she should leave that stop until last. She'd capture the footage of the Harvest Festival, chat with a few of the colonists and then send Olsen on a reconnaissance before making her way back to beer and song. Some things you learned the hard way. A handsome, dark-haired and skinned Betazoid waved at her, trying to capture her attention from between two of his stalls. One exhibit seemed to involve some kind of blowpipe, which several people were using to create a currently molten sculpture. To Charlie, it looked like collaborative glass blowing, and some of the pieces on display in front of the stall were beautiful. With a flick of her wrist, Charlie redirected her holorecording drone toward the array. As she neared she could see the material was not quite as clear as glass; though it did have a crystal quality to it, with one or two pieces tinted violet. They were beautiful, though one imperfect, and Charlie was quite taken with the rather wonky looking statue of some kind of feline. She glanced up and around, looking to catch the eye of the Betazoid colonist who had waved at her previously. "May I?" Charlie asked, gesturing toward the animal figurine. "Please!" The man responded with an enthusiastic smile as he stepped toward the display. With a gentle touch, Charlie picked it up and held it up to the light, smiling as refraction through the stone cast tiny sparkles everywhere. "If you don't mind my asking, Miss... Why this one?"She looked up, brows raised with surprise at the question. "I don't know," she said honestly with a shrug, returning her attention to the not-quite-right Betazoid cat. "It spoke to me more than the others, I guess. What can I give you for it? Credits? A trade?""Please, you must have it." He smiled at her, an expression so bright that it caught her off-guard and she found herself speechless for a moment. "What? No, no, don't be silly, man. That wouldn't be right.""It would be most right," he responded, his tone sure. He somehow managed to be quietly persistent, without being in any way pushy. It was an excellent skill to have as a salesman, Charlie thought. He had her full attention as he explained, "I'm a student of kaladi, the art of blowing serenite, the stone found to the east of here. When I come to work every day and begin, my Master makes me keep my first creation, every time, no matter how good or bad it might be. It is created at a time when the serenite is not hot enough to be appropriately malleable. It is a tradition." He gestured toward the purple-hued, sparkly "cat" in her palm. "That was my first work of the day. Nobody ever purposely chooses to display their first work of the day, and I've never met anyone who liked one.""Oh." Charlie couldn't decide if she was embarrassed or amused, and perhaps the confusion showed in her expression, but she rallied as usual. "It's half-baked, just like me."The artist laughed, surprised, having thought he'd need to reassure the young woman. "Nothing perfect is ever interesting," he told her, his smile just as bright, though his tone turned a little suggestive. "And interesting is always beautiful. The piece has found its match."He was a bit of a smoothie, but Charlie knew she liked him. "What's your name?""Andrus.""Thanks for the wonky cat, Andrus." With those parting words, she wandered off, slipping the little imperfect creature into a pocket on her sun dress.
Open. [ENS Veronica “Ronnie” Li - Serenity Town Square] The art booths were calling to her like some kind of homing beacon. Ronnie hadn’t even spared a glance at the warm, bright beer tent with all of the voices raised in song, though she loved to drink. That would come later. Now she was in her element. The artist wore her off duty clothes, a pair of black pants that were just a skosh big so they hung low on her wide hips, an open throated scarlet shirt, a light jacket, her favorite one. Her ever present engineering kit was banging against her thigh, but in this case it was mostly empty, the better to squire away purchases would make. Ronnie hadn’t been to Serenity with the rest of the crew, but the devastation wrought upon the colony had apparently been fantastic. There was nothing like that here now. Now the main drag in Serenity was thronged with happy festival goers, doddering oldsters gumming up sweets, kids, women and farmers hawking their harvest. She spotted half a dozen different vegetables, some fruits that looked so ripe that they may burst right there under the sun. She also loved to eat as much as she loved to drink, and she would definitely be bellying up to a table for a farmhouse breakfast, plain and filling. Years ago, back home, her uncle had been a farmer in British Columbia. Ronnie still remembered going to visit him at his farm, the freshness of all the food and the air. She was a city girl and was more at home in a fancy party in Vancouver, but the great outdoors had a lot of appeal for her, too. But, later. Art always came first. There were merchants and artists taking commissions right there on the street, clothing stalls, knives, knickknacks, and everything in between. Instinctively, the artist had found her way to the gold and silversmiths, the jewelers. Ronnie had always had a love of glitter, of pomp, of glittering gems and metals, despite her brooding personality. To her way of thinking, art was meant to express emotion, and jewelry had the added bonus of prettifying the person as well. Her own fingers were adorned with chunky rings of obsidian and precious metals. She wore a necklace at all times, and now earrings also studded her ears, and she had a hoop in her lower lip. With her hair drawn back in a tight ponytail it all gave an extra edge to her look. On duty, of course, jewelry was limited to a few understated pieces, mostly to be hidden under the uniform, and piercings were a good way to snag yourself on some metal and hurt yourself. But now, out on the town, she could dress as she pleased. She drifted among the stalls and stands, a remote figure, her deceptively fit looking body clad unlike the other women around her. Ronnie was brushing her fingers appreciatively over a display of finely tooled bronze arm bands when she saw one of her crew members. Ordinarily, she wasn’t one for being so outgoing, making friends. But anyone who also had an eye for fine handicrafts was clearly a woman of class and taste. At the very least, she should introduce herself as a matter of professional courtesy. “ That’s a fine piece you’ve snagged,” Ronnie said by way of greeting. “ Imperfect, but lovely all the same. Hi, Veronica Li. Call me ‘Ronnie.’ I am the new engineer.” Tag: Charlie Fox

[ LT Joshua Niles - Town Square, Serenity Colony ]The return to Serenity was something one Lieutenant Niles had some mixed feelings about. After all, even though it was under duress, the colony administrator did sell the away team out to a criminal gang to get back at Captain Baker. And while Sheriff Marais hadn't had much of a choice but to go along with it, the older man hadn't much cared for being forced into that situation, and his own logs had indicated he'd fought against it as much as he could. But a small colony with only a limited stock of small arms could have done very little against those bastards. So as much as intellectually he knew that the colonists never really meant them any harm, his gut thought very much differently and that particular conflict was, well, a less than ideal situation for him. And it meant that between Chief Velal and himself they had hammered out a much more comprehensive security plan this time around. Granted, she had handled the dirtside aspects, while the spaceborne aspect had been his to work on. This time around, there was a full picket of probes seeded across the inner system, and patrols by the Mac's small craft to thicken things up. Like hell he was going to allow himself to be surprised a second time on that bloody planet... and Sheriff Marais had not been apprised of the full extent of the measures he had taken. And when he was satisfied that the spaceborne arrangments were fully in place he had beamed down himself, in civilian attire like most of the attending personnel; and like many, he had a phaser tucked in a concealed holster and a tricorder in his jacket pocket, along with the single-purpose scanner he'd cooked up after a merry little incident involving a stimulant drink that had interacted less than pleasantly with the meds needed to regulate the integration of his prosthetic with his nervous system. Upon arrival, he quickly stepped away from the arrival site; if anything he wanted to be able to get out of there fairly quickly, and hopefully not garner a welcoming committee. Which, well, meant his eyes quickly moved about until he found the Captain, Commander Quinn, and Chief Velal and he moved over to join them just as he heard the Chief, mention that the dirtside security picture looked good, and the quips that followed. "Captain, Sir, Chief. Sorry I'm a little late, I just had to make sure everything was just right space-side before I came down."

{Quoted Posts} [ Chief Engineer Kaya Som, Taron Lars (bio) | Beer tent along the main thoroughfare ]"Yiss," Kaya hissed when Kova reluctantly acquiesed, then escorted the flight risk back into the tent where they were both greeted by a farmer-strong cheer of welcome and delight. Truly, the Serenity farmers had as much reason to celebrate this harvest of any ever before. Their community had been liberated. Any visitor should be folded into their joy and relief. Once at the table, Kaya quickly introduced them all with about eighty percent accuracy. She presented Kova more formally as well. "Kova Sh'qaleq. Traveler." Taron himself poured Kova her cup. They were dark in color and heavy, but on closer inspection they were made of a dark opaque glass, not metal or stone. "Welcome, Kova," he said in a deep voice, smiling under his beard. His dark Betazoid eyes did not pry into the Andorian's head. "Hand-blown glass made with iron slag and sulphur. We call this beer, eh, oencha which means 'golden'.""It's made of wheat," Kaya piped in, having heard Taron's speech already. Her elementary observation was met with laughter. Even after months learning about agricultural engineering it remained clear how little farm-time Kaya had grown up with. Taron laughed too. "I can tell you like to keep your head, Kova. It's only five and a half percent alcohol by volume," Taron added more quietly. "So enjoy yourself."Kaya certainly was, and eager to include Kova. "There's a song," she said and began to explain. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Beer Tent, Serentity] Almost instantly Kova began to regret agreeing to Kaya's sober-less invitation. She led Kova to some table where she introduced the Andorian to many of the farmers sitting there. Kova wasn't entirely sure that Kaya had gotten all of those right. Some people were easily confused by gender, but it was much easier to discern among most humanoids. She was pretty sure that at one point Kaya had simply been calling out colors of the rainbow as well. And then there was Kova's introduction as a traveler of all things. In some ways it stung. Perhaps the Andorian was reading too much into it, but it did seem to imply that she was without a home. It had certainly felt as such for a number of weeks. Then, there was the rather large, bearded man. The darkness of his eyes suggested that he was a Betazoid. He had poured Kova a beer and presented it to her. Again, Kaya mentioned that the golden ale was made from wheat. Kova looked over at Kaya. "Yes, so you've mentioned," she said. Presently, it seemed to be the extent of Kaya's technical recollection. There was a bit of laughter, even from the bearded man himself. He seemed perceptive. Kova wasn't one that typically indulged deeply in alcohol. As he explained the percentage, Kova's brow furrowed. "Five and a half percent?" she repeated. Most wines were stronger than that. Yet, now Kova was curious about something else as Kaya mentioned a song. "Exactly how much of this wheat beer have you consumed?" Kova doubted she'd feel so much as a light buzz after finishing off the glass that had been given to her. Kaya, however, appeared to be an entirely different story... preferably one devoid of a melody.

[Town Square - Serenity] Choosing fun over food was a fairly new concept for Thea as normally should would of been one of the first to sample the local fayre and delicacies. However after all the recent personal changes in her life and facing off against a shadow entity during her last stint on the station. Thea, was quite happy to just go with the flow and enjoy this fully, especially with Isaiah at her side. This celebration seemed to represent so much and gave Thea, the opportunity to reflect and appreciate the last six months and would partake in everything that Serenity had to offer. When Isaiah then paused as he began to consider and answer her suggestion. It didn't take long for the CO to realise why as Jovireh approached and gave them an update. Her recent promotion to Chief alongside Isaiah's own promotion were both deserved and Thea smiled warmly at her. The security officer's concerns regarding the return to Serenity, had been duly justified and Thea, had listened to both her and Taggert on the matter. So if it meant extra personnel and other measures put in place to keep everyone safe, then Thea was all for it. Thea also couldn't fault her thoroughness to ensure that everything was okay before partaking in the festivities and agreed with what Isaiah then said. " Isaiah is right, you have earned it and I appreciate everything that you've done so far" Thea added, before they were joined by Niles. Hearing that he had delayed his departure and the reason why, wasn't surprising. Although Thea was relieved that she hadn't needed to force him to attend the festival. Being back here was bound to generate mixed feelings but also it was a way to bring closure and move on, whilst supporting the colonists as she acknowledged Niles. " I understand Mr Niles and now that you are here, I want you to enjoy yourself as much as possible. I also suggest that you try the fresh doughnuts" she said thinking it would be good for him to talk to Mara. Some still might blame her friend for what happened, however that was a guilt that they both carried, despite Tobias being the one who wanted revenge.

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Serenity - Town Square]
Syl hadn't been part of the crew the last time they were at Serenity, but she had heard all about it. Just how many times had the Mac's away teams been captured? Held hostage? Tortured? While she certainly didn't have access to Starfleet's statistics on the matter, it seemed to happen a lot more than it should. So like many others, she also wasn't thrilled to be here... but as soon as she realized who all was down on the planet, she began to relax. Charlie would be quick to notice anything fishy, Kova and Shavan wouldn't let anything happen to her if there was anything they could do about it. If Eliska had been here, Syl would have felt damn near untouchable.
However, because Eliska was not here, Syl was currently wandering through the stalls, looking for something to take back to her. Seeing the way these colonists lived reminded her of how her friend had described Nova Kosice. A bit more modern technology involved, and without the super high gravity, but they still displayed a very simplistic way of enjoying day to day life. Her fingertips ran through her hair absently as she perused some woodcarvings. The artists here were truly talented...

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square]Jov grinned at Isaiah's teasing. "I'll set the timer," she replied before shifting her attention back to Thea. "Thank you, Captain. I appreciate your trust here." That had been the hardest part for her last time... She had known something was wrong, and she didn't have the ability to do anything about it until it was too late. Of course she was much newer then, had just received her first promotion. She had done a lot in the six months since then to earn the CO's trust in her judgement and capabilities. When Lt. Niles joined them, she returned his greeting with a nod. "Thank you. Your expertise is invaluable." Jovireh knew that there had been issues with his performance, and she had her own misgivings towards the Lieutenant, but she felt it would be a mistake to not turn to him for help in an area where he excelled and she did not. And there was the fact that she still had a bit of training to do before Taggert left her the department, so Niles still outranked her. It wouldn't do either of them any good for her to start giving him orders just yet.

[Lt. Shavan Th’zhaar - Main Thoroughfare, Serenity] Shavan would’ve been perfectly fine with never going back to Serenity again, and the prospect of the Harvest Festival had done little to change that. And yet, here they all were, and a celebration was a celebration, wasn’t it? Naturally, he gravitated towards where things seemed to be the liveliest… or at least where there was plenty to drink. Walking unhurriedly down the street, he approached the beer garden tent, and waved to Kova and Kaya Som when he noticed them inside. But before going in, Shavan caught sight of Charlie walking by, and instead turned towards her with a friendly smile. “Up to anything interesting?” If anyone was going to discover if the colony had anything interesting to offer, beyond the obvious ‘attractions’, it would probably be her. [ENS Veronica “Ronnie” Li - Serenity Town Square] The art booths were calling to her like some kind of homing beacon. Hi, Veronica Li. Call me ‘Ronnie.’ I am the new engineer.” [Charlie Fox - Town Square, Serenity]"Hey!" Charlie responded to Shavan's greeting, her smile matching his friendly one. She reached back into her pocket and pulled out the cat figurine to show him. "I just got this wonky Betazoid cat from that artist over there." Charlie pointed at Andrus, who dutifully waved in response, his expression amused. "I think I'll call it Harmon."She'd been pleased that so many of them would be together in Serenity for this Harvest thing, but since their return from Caldonia, there was one of their number missing frequently. Charlie still wasn't speaking to Matthew, but that didn't mean she wasn't worried about him. Mad as hell, yes, but also scared that he'd go too far and never come back. "I was going to go and find some carbs to line my stomach with before hitting the boozy tent, wanna join?" The day had been entirely too pleasant thus far to ruin it for everyone by sharing her feelings with her friend. They were then approached by someone who admired her Harmon cat. Charlie could appreciate the woman's off-beat sense of style - surrounded by basic dresses and flowing locks, here was someone who walked their talk. "Exactly what I thought," Charlie agreed. She'd been drawn to it for an as yet unknown logic, but she'd chosen it for exactly the reason this Ronnie expressed. "Charlie Fox, FNN," she introduced, the sentence running away with itself like it was all one word - hazard of the job. She gestured toward the officer next to her. "This is Shavan Th'zhaar. He's got some fancy Science title." Charlie raised her hand in a slight waving motion, and several seconds later, Olsen's whirring heralded his return. His primary lens was angled directly toward the three of them. "How do you like Serenity so far?"

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Town Square - Serenity] Left Ear had had to gather a good amount of courage to return to the Serenity colony. She'd spent the first little while jerking her head around at every odd sound, her ears and nose twitching madly as she tried to catalog all of the sights and sounds. They hadn't been required to wear uniforms, but the cadet had gotten used to how much easier it was to carry her things that way than in a satchel, and gave her a place to keep a combadge. Instead of her cadet colors, though, Left Ear had replicated a harness with a bright flowered pattern in blue, orange and green, with the attached pouches in the same design. It allowed her to carry a tricorder, medkit, a couple of usefuls, a knife and a snack and still drop to all fours for running or climbing or fighting. After awhile, the Sivaoan started to relax as the joy and excitement of the locals breached her nerves. Left Ear was still extra-vigilant, but she began drifting around the square to examine all of the games and wares, giving the beer tent a wide berth, a wrinkled nose and a sneeze. She'd spent long time watching the serenite blowers. She planned to buy a piece before returning to the ship. She also tried every kind of food that was on offer, having to take a few moments behind a tree to clean powdered sugar from her fur after eating a donut. Now Left Ear wandered and watched people as she munched on some sort of meat-on-a-stick. She noticed one of the Mac's crew members standing off by himself at the edge of the crowds and sidled over. She didn't know him, but recognized his face from looking through the crews medical files. Unsure whether Vulbrix was deliberately avoiding people, Left Ear stopped a few feet away and raised her tail within his line of sight, waving the tip slightly in greeting. ' Hello,' she said casually. ' I'm Left Ear to-Ennien.' She knew his name already, but had learned this song and dance of greetings from observation over the last year. Tag Myker Vulbrix [ Myker Vulbrix - Town Square, Serenity] The Betazoid was actively avoiding the worst of the crowds, it was common knowledge to anyone that knew him that he didn’t do so well in crowds. He could and would hold a conversation with people but to interact within a large group was far too much of a challenge for the telepath. So being off to the side was hardly unusual for him, a keen observer made him aware of things others may not be even without his telepathic skills. He could see various foods and items the vendors had on sale from where he stood and he considered investigating further but the sounds emanating from the beer tent were enough to shut that idea down. The hum of activity was pleasant, the wailing of liberated, drunken colonists was not. He wouldn’t be surprised if the voices from the Mac crew joined in at some point, it would sound the same just with that chauvinistic edge that came with being part of or working with the federation. While Myker found the songs to be agonising he understood liberation, he understood the colonists desire to celebrate, to have a moment where things were normal and peaceful. He was also well aware it wasn’t that simple, had he opened his mind to those around him no doubt there would be feelings and thoughts beyond simply euphoria drifting into his head. Myk’s attention was easily captured by the tail that was suddenly in his field of vision. He didn’t know the person...or cat behind the tail personally but knew they were part of the USS Mac crew too. His attention now on them, Myker Vulbrix. He greeted, and while he was avoiding people, he wasn’t altogether rude. He was trying to know more of his crew after all, it was important since they spent much of their time on the ship. It’s lively isn’t it. He noted about the atmosphere, his eyes again scanning the area falling momentarily on the beer tent again. He wasn’t particularly concerned, he was simply making a constant assessment of the situation. It truly seemed this colony had moved on from the horrors of before, they’d made a better world for themselves and let the past be exactly that or so it seemed. Left Ear to-Ennien

[ Chief Engineer Kaya Som, Taron Lars (bio)| Beer tent along the main thoroughfare ]Taron didn't know Kaya Som well so he could not tell if her enthusiastic adoption of their colony's customs was in keeping with her usual personality, but there was something slightly manic under the surface, something earnest and unrestful. Kova's unrestfulness, on the other hand, was not concealed at all. "Taste it and tell us what you think," he coaxed the Andorian and then directed his attention away from their conversation for the most part. Someone was passing around bread and cheese. "Oh, Kova. Sweetheart. I'm winning," she said as if that explained how much she'd had to drink. Taron discreetly contradicted the claim with a shake of his head Kaya didn't notice. There wasn't even anything to win. "Our ship, our honor, our family, you know. The song has loads of verses but the chorus is easy. You'll catch on." She intercepted some bread. Got it? Hey? Are you sad? Oh, Kova...!" Kaya melted a little in sisterly concern and touched her leg in comfort. "Don't be sad. This is fun. We're not dead. No one's going to die. It's party. [Lt. Shavan Th’zhaar - Serenity Colony] Shavan looked where Charlie was pointing and flashed a charming smile at the artist. (He wasn’t actually interested in buying one of the figurines, but he was interested in attractive Betazoids.) (Apparently.) Then he turned back to her with amusement when she said she had named hers after Harmon. “I suppose there is a resemblance, if you squint.” He paused as he remembered the rift between her and Harmon, and the man’s continued absence. Maybe when they got back to the station, he should make more of an effort to find him, and see what it was like to be friends under ‘normal’ circumstances. Whatever that meant. Of course, there was nothing to be done about that now. “Sounds good to me,” Shavan agreed to go with Charlie for the time being. But before they could continue on their way they were approached by another human woman, who was also admiring the art. “Hi,” he greeted Ronnie, then hastily amended Charlie’s exaggerated introduction. “Just Shavan is fine.” He wasn’t one for formality, especially while off duty. [ LT Joshua Niles - Town Square, Serenity Colony ]{Quoted Posts} [Town Square - Serenity] Choosing fun over food was a fairly new concept for Thea as normally should would of been one of the first to sample the local fayre and delicacies.
Tag Isaiah Quinn Jovireh Velal Joshua Niles [CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square]Jov grinned at Isaiah's teasing.
Tag Thea Baker Isaiah Quinn Joshua Niles Had he not entirely screwed up, Niles would probably have volunteered to take the watch back on the ship while everyone else was planetside. The last visit had left a bitter taste in his mouth, and while he knew he had good people in the Tac section to keep an eye on things, he most definitely would have preferred being where he could have been in control to some degree... if only that was limited to being surrounded by a heavily armoured, shielded hull that was impervious to all but the most determined assaults (and those that no defensive planner had ever envisaged as a real threat before, such as satellites with less internal volume than a torpedo casing somehow being able to cripple them in one fell swoop... And the Skipper's suggestion that he head down to the festival, albeit armed if that was his preference, well, wasn't something he had interpreted as discretionary. Though, not getting an acknowledgement of rank by Velal, that had stung; of course everyone knew she was being groomed for the role of department head... and that he'd fairly pissed away that possible promotion for the foreseeable future. If anything, it would hardly surprise him if his career would be stalled at this duty station unless something would open up that would be a step up. But at least, she had acknowledged his expertise and not tried to tell him how to do his job so he could be thankful for that... And another advantage of staying up on the ship, would have meant he would not have to interact with the colony leadership that had led them into a trap all in the name of someone else getting to the Skipper. And he would not be standing not fifty meters from where he'd faced the ignominy of having to surrender without even trying to make a fight of it. And of course, the Captain had another of her suggestions for him, one of those that might as well have been a written order. "I'll... try," he answered somewhat hesitantly. "If you'll excuse me, I suppose I should go an try those famous donuts, before they run out."And on that note, he found his way towards that particular stand, drawn by the unmistakable smell of freshly fried dough.

{Quoted Posts} [ LT Joshua Niles - Town Square, Serenity Colony ]The return to Serenity was something one Lieutenant Niles had some mixed feelings about. Sorry I'm a little late, I just had to make sure everything was just right space-side before I came down." [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Town Square, Serenity] It wasn't long before Lieutenant Niles also appeared. He explained his tardiness was due to some last minute tending of his duties at tactical aboard the Mac. Isaiah nodded. "Glad you could join us, Lieutenant," he said. Isaiah hadn't picked up on any ill feelings between Niles and Velal, but he was certainly curious if there was any tension between the two of them primarily because it seemed to be the case that Jovireh was being groomed for the department head position. Of course, Isaiah had every confidence that both of the officers exhibited enough professionalism for that not to be an issue. Though, almost as quickly as he had arrived, Niles began to excuse himself and take advantage of the donuts that Ms. Rexan had been preparing as Thea had suggested. "Enjoy yourself, Mr. Niles," Isaiah said as he departed. He then turned to Jovireh. "What is it... twenty-seven minutes now? Twenty-six?" He chuckled slightly. "Any idea how you plan to spend your time this evening, Chief?"Isaiah was certainly contemplating how he and Thea would spend theirs. Thea had already made the suggestion that the two of them enjoy a dance. There had been a few attractions that had captured Isaiah's eye that he wouldn't mind getting a closer look at. That did not, however, include the beer tent.

{Quoted Posts} [ Chief Engineer Kaya Som, Taron Lars (bio)| Beer tent along the main thoroughfare ] Taron didn't know Kaya Som well so he could not tell if her enthusiastic adoption of their colony's customs was in keeping with her usual personality, but there was something slightly manic under the surface, something earnest and unrestful. "And then it's hei, tal, bal, like three, two one," (she tapped her cup on the table to demonstrate), "and then you down as much as you can in one go, but you can't be the last one to set it down. Got it? Hey? Are you sad? Oh, Kova...!" Kaya melted a little in sisterly concern and touched her leg in comfort. "Don't be sad. This is fun. We're not dead. No one's going to die. It's party. A wheat party." [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Beer Tent, Serenity] Taron asked Kova to taste the beer and tell them what she thought. The Andorian was instantly curious what her opinion mattered. It seemed nearly everyone else that had gathered certainly approved of the taste. Kaya then interjected that she was winning. Was that supposed to explain how much she had already consumed. Kova's eyes fell upon Taron who shook his head subtly. That seemed to suggest that Kaya was sorely overestimating her ability to win whatever drinking game she believed she was involved in. As some bread came around, Kova was at least pleased to see the young engineer was eating. There was a chance it could possibly slow her progression into an epic drunken stupor, or at least a hangover that she'd regret the next morning. Kaya persisted in her explanation of this song which Kova wasn't entirely certain she had fully deciphered. Perhaps it was just gibberish that made sense to the Trill. Still, despite everything, Kaya found time to be concerned with Kova's mood. The crust of her argument being that they weren't dead and that this was a party hinted at the engineer's capability to state the obvious for the time being. "I will drink the beer," Kova said, hopeful that such an assertion would appease Kaya and lead the Trill to cease her strange philosophying about sadness, death and wheat. The Andorian's blue fingers closed around the glass. It was doubtful that these people would poison her. Kova lifted the glass, her eyes inspecting even after she brought it closer to smell the beer. With no immediate signs of foul play, Kova brought the glass to her lips. The first swallow or so may have been sips, but the glass slowly began to tilt upwards, until it was horizontal, and then to the point where Kova had to tilt her head back as she downed the last of its contents. She then pulled the glass from her lips, and inspected the empty glass before setting it back on the table. Was this the cause of Kaya's euphoria? "It is... palatable," Kova said matter of factly. A few moments passed before she pushed it forward. "Another."

[Town Square - Serenity] Thea smiled as Jovireh responded to Isaiah's teasing before the Chief thanked Thea and told her that she appreciated the CO's trust. When it came to the security of the crew and being planetside there hadn't been any hesitation or doubt. Something that Thea always instilled in her officers and seeing them thrive never failed to make her proud. " Anytime Chief and I appreciate what you've done" Thea replied, as Jovireh and Isaiah then acknowledged Niles. Of course Thea wasn't completely naive in having the two work together, especially with the Lieutenant's less than stellar track record of late. Although hoped that he would learn from this and put his ego aside if he had any chance of breaking free from the reputation he currently had. Even his hesitant answer in response to her suggestion of trying the doughnuts, wouldn't deter her from her goal. Things needed to be settled regardless of earlier mistrust and relationships mended so hopefully this wouldn't backfire on her. " Good idea and please have fun Mr Niles " she said sincerely, echoing her Boyfriend's sentiment before he spoke to Jovireh once more. His gentle chuckling and ribbing was synonymous with everything that Thea loved about him and the CO might be off duty but she was interested in what Jovireh's answer would be. That in itself had Thea thinking of her own plans with Isaiah apart from the dancing. **************** [ Mara - Town Square] Business appeared to be going well as Mara finished yet another batch of doughnuts. Appreciating the custom especially from the Mac crew as Jovireh stopped by on the way over to Thea and Isaiah. She would understand if they wanted to avoid her but thankfully so far that hadn't been the case. Adding some powdered vanilla sugar to the new batch and after having a brief chat with Hendricks. The Colony leader smiled warmly as Lieutenant Niles approached, no doubt courtesy of Thea. She would thank her friend later or commiserate depending on how this exchange went as she greeted Josh. " Hi there, Lieutenant, could I interest you in a doughnut or two?".

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square]When the Lieutenant left as quickly as he had arrived, Jov watched him go, her lips pursed in thought. The empath had felt the bristle of something unpleasant, but she didn't have a chance to pinpoint it before he walked away. To his credit, however he was feeling towards her, he was trying to keep it to himself. Even so, it would probably be a good idea to talk to him about it at some point. Not right now, though. Isaiah's joking tone pulled her out of her thoughts, and she turned back to him with a grin. "Honestly... I hadn't planned that far ahead. I was more focused on the people than what they were offering." Although there were a few people that had caught her attention...
