[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Town Square - Serenity] ' Myk-k,' Left Ear said again, still struggling with the last part. It just wasn't a sound in Sivaoan, and despite speaking very good English by this point, all of the Sivaoans had difficulty with the hard 'k' and hissing 's' sounds. Her tail, which had relaxed to wave gently near the ground behind her, sprang into a corkscrew at Myk's joke about the meat. 'Wouldn't mind if it were some grabfoot...or tritter,' Left Ear said, baring her teeth at the kebab and deliberately tearing some off roughly. Grabfoots were just plain good eating, but after the tritter scare on the last mission, Left Ear wouldn't mind sinking her teeth into one of them as well. Left Ear nodded in agreement as the Betazoid continued. Her tail dropped and her voice was a little sober when she replied, ' I am. Now. The last time we were here, it was...bad. I think most of us were nervous to return, but it's hard not to be affected by the atmosphere. This reminds me a lot of our camps back on Sivao. I've missed that.' It was a bit of a melancholy way to answer the question, she realized. ' I am having fun,' she added. Tag Myker Vulbrix [ Myker Vulbrix - Town Square - Serenity] Although the cadet still struggled with the last sound in his name, it was far better than struggling through the whole thing. It didn't bother the Betazoid at all either, since he'd grown used to people mispronouncing his name or struggling. His mother had taken him off world plenty of times so he'd grown accustomed to the variations his name had. Her response to his joke wasn't what he expected but then again it rarely was. He was just glad the Sivaoan seemed to recognize that he had indeed been joking. I don't think I'd like to know what it is. Myker rarely believed ignorance was bliss, but in this case he would rather remain ignorant of what exactly his crewmate was tearing into. He noted the droop of her tail, he didn't need his telepathy to sense the slight shift in mood. Her response was somewhat more somber than moments ago. He wanted to reach into her thoughts, wanted to find out what was the cause of the almost sadness that seemed to wash over her for a moment. He didn't though, knowing it was neither accepted nor the right thing to do. It seems the colony has come a long way since then.[/b] He'd only read about the last mission, he hadn't been there to witness it, but the nervousness of some of the crew was obvious and so he knew it must've caused significant damage, beyond the physical. He wondered how deep those scars ran. He shook his head briefly to clear his thoughts, right now it didn't seem important with how bright and cheery everyone seemed. The atmosphere is certainly contagious. He agreed, because even he himself had found it to be infectious. His posture was completely relaxed which was in stark contrast to his normal rigid stance. Have you spoken to the locals? He questioned, feeling more inclined to do that himself now that he'd finished observing them. Left Ear to-Ennien[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Town Square - Serenity] The cadet's tail leapt into a corkscrew again at Myk's comment about the meat, and she responded, ' I don't think they'd feed us anything bad. Probably just one of the critters that live around here, or it could be replicated. I was shocked to find that most people in the Federation don't eat real meat, and that I can't really tell the difference, though Captain Eastman swears it tastes different.' Her tail coiled tighter. Left Ear was curious about the Betazoid, but hesitant to ask questions. She'd learned caution over months of gaffes where she asked too many or too personal questions. Instead she stuck with answering him for the moment. ' I spoke to them a little as I looked around. There are a few things I'd like to buy before we go back to the ship. Do you want to walk through? I wouldn't mind making another round. I want seconds of some of the foods.' Left Ear had put on some weight since leaving home with such a variety of foods to try and less physical activity than she was used to, but she was still relatively svelte. She'd started being more careful about how much she at back on the station, but had decided that this was a time to simply enjoy what was on offer. Since she was planning on exploring, running around in the woods and climbing some trees the Sivaoan figured she'd work it off. Tag Myker Vulbrix

[ Mara - Town Square, Serenity] " It was horrendous and I wouldn't want to wish it on anyone" Mara admitted as Niles answered her quietly. His understanding was important to her and hopefully this would put an end to any hard feelings towards her in particular. As the Lieutenant then spoke about Marais, Mara grinned slightly at the mention of the Sheriff. " That sounds about right, I'd be lost without him and he should be around here somewhere. I know he wanted to show you the project that he's been working on".Mara didn't want to give away too many details, however had a feeling that the Mac crew would approve of the plan to protect themselves, should they encounter any more issues. After surviving the last ordeal, no one had voiced any disapproval over implementing new procedures. This was a democracy and one that she treasured as Niles then admitted how he had probably misjudged Serenity. Going on to say how he respected her decision to protect her people. Just as importantly adding what he had expected and how despite knowing it in his mind, that it didn't sit well. " I respect your honesty and what you've just told me Lieutenant. Some of us got away from Starfleet but unfortunately at the time we were still relatively new to setting up our haven. I can assure you that after what happened, we've taken the necessary steps to protect ourselves".

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square]Her grin broadened at their mention of dancing. It certainly sounded like they had joined her mother and Judy in hoping she'd find a relationship. But she decided not to comment on that part in case she was looking too much into it. "Oh, I'll probably end up dancing before we leave here. But that's something I'm going to need to warm up to." While dancing was something she enjoyed - and she was a semi-frequent patron at Delirium when she had the time - it was also an activity that required a bit of alcohol in her system. And until she knew for sure that they weren't in any danger, she would be sticking to drinks her metabolism and tolerance could handle with ease. Her gaze swept around the square, drawn to the beer tent and the loud voices floating from within. "I think I'll go learn a few of those songs they were singing earlier." Maybe surrounding herself with happy and carefree colonists would help her relax a bit more. "Enjoy your dance." Jov gave the Captain and Commander a smile before heading towards the tent, finishing off her doughnut and stopping at the vineyard's stall and purchasing a bottle of wine. Beer certainly wasn't to her taste, but she didn't particularly feel like being the only one in there not drinking anything. Ducking into the tent, her gaze swept around the occupants, immediately recognizing the two from the Mac. "Hey, Kaya." The engineer certainly looked like she was enjoying herself, which Jovireh was relieved to see. She'd worried being back here would be too heavy of a reminder of the Trill's trauma. The Andorian woman she had met only briefly, what seemed like a lifetime ago. "Kova, right? Mind if I join you?"

[...] She then pulled the glass from her lips, and inspected the empty glass before setting it back on the table. Was this the cause of Kaya's euphoria? "It is... palatable," Kova said matter of factly. A few moments passed before she pushed it forward. "Another."[...] Ducking into the tent, her gaze swept around the occupants, immediately recognizing the two from the Mac. "Hey, Kaya." [ Chief Engineer Kaya Som, Taron Lars (bio)| Beer tent along the main thoroughfare ]Kaya's delight at Kova's stoic aqcuiensece to revelry was unmitigated, but she had the sobriety left not to push her luck by touching the Andorian any further. Instead, she celebrated with a few raucous claps of her hands. Taron Lars, too, was all smiles when the 'travelor' showed the best compliment a brewer could ask for but asking simply for 'another'. "Until sundown," he said in his own people's quiet hopeful way of saying 'cheers'. It was then that Jovireh Velal joined them carrying something. Kaya stood from her seat to greet her. "Velal! Come sit with us! What the hell is that?" Kaya had clocked the bottle of wine. Kaya looked scandalized. "Jov, seriously?" Kaya drunk-whispered even as she made space on the bench. "Wine at beer tent ... Rude! Kova. Kova. Kova. Tell her about the beer. Tell her." Jovireh Velal Kova Sh'qaleq

[Lt. JG Syl O'Connell - Serenity - Town Square]One of the colonists approached her, and Syl returned the friendly smile, taking the glass offered to her graciously. "Can't beat a recommendation like that. I'm Syl. It's nice to meet you." She took a sip of the cider, her eyes lighting up at the taste. "This definitely is delicious." Which she proved by taking another, deeper drink. Movement off to the side caught her eye, and she turned to see Lt. Niles was still talking to the woman with the doughnuts. They looked tense though, as they moved away from the stand. She wondered if they were talking about what happened last time. They seemed to be holding it together though, so Syl decided not to pry and turned back to Amira. "This is a very beautiful colony."

[ Amira - Town Square, Serenity] " It's nice to meet you too Syl" Amira replied warmly as the other woman accepted the cup of cider and returned the greeting. The scientist might be biased about the home made alcohol but hearing Syl's reaction to it, made her genuinely smile. Happy that it was well received by their guests as she also took a hearty sip. " Thank you, I'm glad that you like it".This was nice and Amira hoped to get to know Syl better, as the Starfleet officer then complimented the colony. " That was just one of the reasons why I wanted to come here, I can continue my studies and research without the constraints of normal society" Amira admitted, adding a personal note to the conversation. Aside from the colonists who already knew her, Amira didn't get chance to talk like this often and welcomed the chance to do so.

[ENS Veronica "Ronnie" Li - Serenity - Town Square] " Ronnie Li," She replied shortly to them both. " I am the new engineer. Pleased to meet you both." She was glad to see that the both the Andorian and her fellow human had dropped all pretense of titles and rank, even though Charlie was a civilian. It would be frankly ridiculous and distracting to get into all that here, with the sunshine beating down on them and the garden scents of farms and food and animals in the air all around them. Besides, Ronnie wasn't much of an officer, anyway. She had joined Starfleet to mess with her patrician parents, and to work on the latest tech with as much aplomb as she painted, not to be a leader or win medals. But they didn't need to know all that. " I like Serenity a lot," She continued to the other woman. " I read the file on the last mission. The differences between then and now must be startling." Ronnie shielded her eyes from the sun with her hand. " I am not sure if either of you are in the mood for a drink, but the beer garden is looking positively tempting. And I bet they have Andorian ale. I have always had a soft spot for the stuff, but you've got to be careful with it. It sneaks up on you quick and quiet." [Charlie Fox - Town Square, Serenity]Charlie hadn't been on Serenity the first time herself, so she couldn't compare first-hand either. Yet this laidback, celebratory atmosphere certainly seemed like a far cry from what had befallen the crew and the colonists the first time around. Part of the reason she was here was to set the record straight about dangers of colony life, one way or another. The odds of a recurrence of the strange, very specific issues the raiders had last time were very slim. "We were just talking about getting a beer," she said when Ronnie made the suggestion. "I was going to be all responsible and eat something first, but we can do that afterward." There was a smell of charring meat coming from somewhere that had awakened her appetite, and those fried doughnuts looked pretty inviting, too, but they were standing right at the beer tent. It was a sign. From inside the tent came sounds of celebration, and more than once she could hear Kaya's voice above the others. With a grin she stepped to one side. "After you." Then, in an aside to Shavan, she added, "Maybe you can bring a refreshment to Andrus. He looks thirsty." Naturally, she'd caught his winning smile and the artist's responding wink earlier. She knew neither would need much encouragement, but Charlie couldn't resist being an irritant. It was part of who she was. "Can't bring you any where..." she muttered, amusement in her voice as she approached the tent. [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Town Square, Serenity] “It’s certainly improved, I’ll give it that,” Shavan stated when Ronnie said she liked Serenity. Unfortunately, he had been on the last mission. But on a more pleasant note, he’d also been thinking of going to the beer tent before running into them both. So he had no objection, and agreed to the suggestion with a grin. He wasn’t sure if it would have Andorian ale, since most of what was being sold had been made in the colony, but that was just fine. “We’ll just have to try it and find out. Responsibility can come later.”
Or not. Apparently Charlie had caught the look shared between him and the handsome artist. “Does he? In that case, I guess I’ll have to,” he leaned in and replied with a shameless smirk as they reached the entrance. Shavan had already decided to pay a visit to Andrus’s stall… and return when the outdoor market was closing up. With that, he stepped into the already crowded tent, and soon turned back to the others with a beer in hand. Veronica Li Charlie Fox [ENS Veronica "Ronnie" Li - Beer Tent - Serenity] Ronnie wasn’t one to meditate upon the cosmos or see signs. She didn’t think very much at all about the concept of faith beyond a vague envy for those that had it. She didn’t believe in god or healing energies or any other homeopathic nonsense. But she did believe in moods and a certain place, or certain people, having a kind of “energy.” Could this all be explained by personality traits and science? Of course. But was it as fun as chalking it up to happenstance and energy? Not by a long shot. The mood inside the beer tent was rich with cheerfulness and bonhomie. The lighting was warm and so were the voices raised inside. Men and women yelled at one another happily, most of them in some phase of a happy drunk. A few were singing or dancing, but not carrying on loudly enough to cause a scene. Despite her innate rejection of most sentient creatures the artist was right at home. Veronica Li didn’t like people. Never had. But she was, perversely, attracted to gatherings, big cities and crowds if they assembled for the right purpose. She loathed the concept of having to deal with others but was all in for a cocktail fueled night out on the town. And there are few pleasures in the galaxy quite like a relaxed, convivial beer garden. “ Pint of the black stuff, landlord,” Ronnie said with her mischievous, quirky little grin. Soon a handmade glass was deposited before her. Inside was a velvety black and cream liquid, resplendent with falling bubbles. She unceremoniously dunked her nose into the stout with a practiced eased and was soon effortlessly draining it. The muscles in her neck cranked back and forth as she swallowed. When she set the pint glass back down more than half of the strong dark ale was gone. “ I’ve got to warn you, I am Canadian, and I drink like it!” Ronnie said with a raised eyebrow. She burped with the aplomb of a woman unashamed of her own appetites and excused herself politely. Tag: Charlie Fox Shavan Th'zhaar

She'd decided on responsibility before revelry, but it seemed like it took very little to deter her from her carefully thought out plans. At least this time there was no Kaya appearing with hallucinogenic klingon nuts. Though that got her wondering if the colony produced or harvested any other kinds of intoxicants, aside from the beer. She'd save that question for later. "It would be the polite thing," Charlie continued to tease Shavan when he said he'd have to pay Andrus the artist a visit. It wasn't lost on her either that they were presently standing in a tent that contained two of the ladies her friend had gotten to know quite well. But when each of the three of them had a beer in their hands, Charlie's a cup of whatever regular brew the others were singing about and enjoying, she proposed a quick toast. "To drinking like a Canadian in Serenity." She had no idea at all how it was that Canadians were supposed to drink, but if Ronnie's long swallow and subsequent belch of appreciation was anything to go by, they enjoyed it a lot. With a cheers, Charlie took a drink of her own. It was cold and refreshing, and she could see why Kaya in the corner was being so vocal about it. "Never have I ever..." She began, a look of mischief crossing her face, "Engaged in relations during an away mission without filing a 210-B." Of course, she didn't drink, she could shag without having to submit paperwork, but she looked keenly at the other two.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Town Square, Serenity Colony ]While he now had some doubts about Marais, Niles had liked the older man. He was as tough as old leather, obviously wise in the ways of facing danger, and frankly he was just what one would term enough of A Character that no one could be mad at him for long. And, it would seem, Mara Rexam held him in similarly high regard. And now, that mention of that project he had been working on, and the further measures taken to protect themselves definitely got his attention. After all, it was Captain Baker, then Commander Baker, who'd approve the deployment plans for remote sensor and weapons platform to secure their orbitals as part of his contribution to Serenity's supply and support mission; Hell, he'd made sure that there would actually always be a back door available to Starfleet and the Mac was tied into that network was it was. "Glad to hear it," he replied, finally managing a smile. And then, he did something he'd not expected he would have done this visit, and he transferred his donut to his left hand, and extended out his right. "Miss Rexam... Mara, like you said it's unlikely we'd become good friends today but I'd like to think we've cleared the air and might have a chance at it down the line."

[ Mara - Town Square, Serenity] Now that she had shared that information with the security officer, Mara wasn't sure what to expect. However when Niles then smiled and answered her, the Administrator couldn't help but smile back. " Thank you" she replied, still smiling. This exchange had definitely gone better than she had initially thought, before Niles surprised her by offering a handshake. That was certainly unexpected and as Mara processed what he had said, her smile remained happy with the outcome. " Agreed, I think we have too and I hope that we do" she responded as she shook his hand. As she let go, Mara added one last thing as a sign of the possibilities before them and as a celebration of their resolution. " Oh and please call me Mara, Miss Rexan always sounds too formal".

[Farside Of Serenity] Unbeknownst to the festival goers and the Mac itself, a swarm of sleek looking ships had gathered. Hidden from sensors and completely undetectable, each one hovered as if they were part insect/part bird waiting for the signal to strike. Their goal was to destroy Serenity so they could take it for themselves and mine the precious Serenite until the planet was bare. Stripped to the bone and left to die. The pathetic colonists had no clue that the planet designated as SRX - 2902 held such fortune and the Raiders had every intention of not stopping until every last person was dead or forced to flee. Even the Starship in orbit was no threat, not with the firepower at their disposal. The lead ship suddenly crackled to life, igniting a flurry of excitement as the signal sounded. " Alpha, take your squadron and keep the starship occupied... hit them with the neutralizer. The rest of you are with me... let's cause some chaos".Shouts and cheers echoed back as they jammed communications, cutting the Mac off from the planet. Then the fun began as Alpha and his ships engaged the Mac whilst the other ships descended on Serenity. Sirens sounded as farms started to burn and people screamed. Chaos had come to the colony unlike anything than before. Marais shouted to make himself heard over the evil that rained down. " Everyone to the caves".

[ Chief Engineer Kaya Som, Taron Lars (bio)| Beer tent ]Oh, reader. This was who Kaya was. She wanted nothing more than to throw herself in with new people and new cultures and relish in the warmth and discomfort of the unfamiliar. It's why she joined Starfleet and why she'd been so disappointed and lost. But here, today, celebrating with the farmers, feeling like she had some small part in their success, making friends, this was what made Kaya Kaya. Charlie, Shavan, and Ensign Boom Boom had joined them. There wasn't much room for further conversation with either Jovireh or Kova, however, because the sky had begun to fall. The tent began to empty with anything but an orderly queue. Benches were pushed over, glasses toppled on the table. A young woman was shoving breadsticks into her bag. A couple of young farmers were struggling to move a person-sized keg of untapped beer. Taron Lars, the colony's experienced and savvy director of Agriculture paid close attention to the visitors who may not know the drill. Even as he made his orders, his expression was tainted with a resentment from the most cynical part of him - that this Starfleet crew had again brought ruin to their refuge. This didn't stop him helping of course. "Follow Bremeni," he bellowed urging everyone out with his long thick arms. "To the caves. Don't stop."The colonists were not stupid. They'd learned from the previous catastrophe. Kaya he hoisted up from the floor by the elbow and all but set the swaying Trill on her feet. Her wits were thick as hassah and her efforts to put her legs in order were earnest but ineffective. "It's fine!" she shouted to no one in particular, suddenly verbose and wise. "It's not personal! No one's trying to kill you - they're trying to kill - ow - kill everyone in general. It's fine! You can handle more than think, than you can think, thank you can! Excuse me. That's your foot." She had stopped to look back for the other crew and for Kova. Maybe they were ahead of her. Kaya still had a cup in her hand which she'd managed, somehow, not to spill. {Quoted Posts} [Town Square - Serenity] Thea appreciated Jovireh's honesty as the security officer responded to Isaiah's teasing with a grin and answered him. Understanding where she was coming from, in regards to the people as opposed to what was on offer. Grinning slightly as Isaiah then offered his opinion about the colonists and he wasn't wrong with his assessment. Although Thea was aware that not everyone would be so agreeing, but hopefully time would change that. " That they are and I'm sure this festival will only add to that" Thea added musingly, as Isaiah then mentioned their plans. The CO knew that he didn't intend for Jovireh to be a third wheel, before he amended his statement and looked over to Thea. She understood where he was going with this and thought it be a wonderful idea. " I think you will too and what better way to meet someone and have some fun".That's why they were here and if Jovireh liked their proposition then that would definitely be worth suggesting it. However, it appeared that the security officer preferred to leave the couple alone to enjoy the dance rather than intrude. At least that was how it seemed to Isaiah. Jovireh likely had her own reasons for her decision. Especially, since it wasn't dismissed altogether, but sounded as if her attendance would be postponed. "Thank you, Chief. Happy... singing?" he said as his eyes turned towards Thea. "No one says that, do they?"Taking Thea's hand into his own, he started to move towards the open area where they could dance. "Well, it looks like it's just us," he said, hardly perturbed by that fact. He could already hear the music growing louder, and was so prepared to hold Thea in his arms as the music continued to play. Though, he suddenly heard a low rumbling sound... a sound growing louder, and the trembles more evident. His eyes turned towards the horizon which held an eerie glow and was accompanied by smoke. "I don't think those are fireworks," Isaiah said. His suspicions were confirmed as a single ship racing across the sky roared overhead. The blissful nature surrounding the town came to an abrupt end. This was some sort of attack. Isaiah could already hear people calling for everyone to vacate towards the caves. He reached for his combadge, tapping it. =A= "Quinn to Mac!" =A= However, there was no response. =A= "Quinn to Mac!" =A= he repeated, hoping for a different outcome, but finding it just the same. His eyes turned towards Thea, as it was evident that neither of them knew the fate of the Mac. This was hardly what he had been expecting for a celebration, and was sure that Thea felt the same way. "Maybe we can help with the evacuation," Isaiah said. There wasn't much more that they could do right now, especially without the resources of the Mac.

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Serenity - Town Square]Kaya's drunken greeting made it more apparent how she was enjoying herself so much. Jov laughed at the chastise and shook her head. "Beer does not get along with Romulan stomachs," she answered simply, thankful that there were no other Romulan hybrid crewmembers around to prove her wrong. Honestly, she had no idea if that were true or not... But she did know that beer did not get along with her tastebuds, which had the same result if she forced herself to drink an entire glass. She sat down on the bench, waving to the trio that came in after her. Shavan she knew probably better than anyone else present. Charlie she'd met only briefly. And the other woman she'd never seen before... Though judging by the way she was drinking, she fit right in. Before Jovireh could engage any of them in conversation, however, or even open the bottle in her hand, a panicked voice shouted in her ear. =A="Incoming!"=A="Faelirh ch'susse-thrai![fn]Romulan - S.O.B.[/fn]" Jov cursed, setting the bottle down and pressing the communicator in her ear. =A="Help with evac, I'm en route!"=A= Chaos had already erupted in the tent as the colonists tried to flee. She swiftly bent over and pulled a phaser from its concealed holster on her ankle. Crossing over to Shavan, she pressed it into his hand. "Help everyone to the evac site. Stay there and keep them safe." While to anyone else it might sound like she was giving a superior officer an order, she hoped he'd be able to know by the look in her eye that she was requesting his help as the only one present she knew could handle it. Jovireh didn't have time to wait for an answer. Leaving the phaser with him, she moved swiftly out of the tent, looking around to get an idea of exactly what was going on. The ships flying through the area, and the fires visible in the distant fields, made it obvious they weren't going to win this on the ground. She tapped her com badge. =A="Velal to Lt. Niles. Is this something your orbital measures can take care of?"=A= The Chief spun around in a circle as she spoke, continuing to size up the situation. Everyone she saw was moving in the same direction, the security personnel she'd had around the perimeter were now helping with traffic control. Good. She took cover and waited for more information.

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Town Square - Serenity] The cadet's tail leapt into a corkscrew again at Myk's comment about the meat, and she responded, ' I don't think they'd feed us anything bad. Tag Myker Vulbrix [ Myker Vulbrix - Serenity, Town Square]
As his companion spoke about the unknown meat, she made a valid point that they'd not give them something harmful and it more than likely was replicated. "I think it depends which food. Some your certainly can taste the difference, especially when it comes to vegetables, I certainly notice it with things like oskoid." Myk figured it had to do with the fact that vegetation drew a lot from the environment it was grown in. He also didn't eat all that much meat so couldn't comment. Myker was often met with curiosity, mostly because he remained so reserved and to himself. Not that he minded, curiosity was exactly why races progressed. Myker was about to agree to a walk through, to see what other wares were on show that he couldn't see from where he was. Moments later there was a noise like nothing else, it was loud and very clearly an attack. "Hold that thought." The Betazoid went from relaxed to serious in the blink of an eye. Serenity was under attack and they had to help somehow. The peace that the colony had worked hard to build was shattered in moments. It was ironic how fast utopia could be smashed and replaced with fear. Myk looked at Left Ear, " We need to help get these people safe." he said as he glanced around at the panic stricken folks. They at least had some sort of contingency, some plan for an occurance like this. Moments later he saw the ship, it was quick but clearly was there to attack the colony it was also clear that this was bigger than them and they needed all the help they could get. All they could do was help the evacuation, keep some order while they waited for orders of their own. Left Ear to-Ennien
