[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - Conference Room 2]When the reply came back from the freighter's Captain, Taggert sighed and rubbed a hand over his jaw. "Well that was a bust." His mind continued to work over other possibilities of gathering information. Asides from sending a team to the planet, he wasn't sure what else they could do. "I hate to say it, but this investigation is probably going to take some time. The Commodore is the only one willing to talk to us, and it could be dangerous for him to try to recover his memories too quickly." The good thing about interstellar law was there was no statute of limitations for kidnapping a high ranking Starfleet officer. If they weren't able to find the evidence to keep the Soteria docked, they could still pursue justice when they did find what they were looking for.

Yet, doing so could possibly reveal a bit more of this timely inconvenience.
[Chromar's Office, N.S.S. Soteria ] As Chromar sat behind his desk, he began to get a few answers of his own. The access codes he was using were quite low level. Though, it should be sufficient to access the parameters of this supposed search. He had paid quite a bit of money for these codes, but his asset was the friend of an old friend. He certainly trusted the source. And this was a low-risk attempt, considering that the hack was being conducted remotely from a terminal in one of the Twilight's suites. It didn't take him long to discern the identity of person being pursued. "Avi... Moz," the Romulan snarled as he clinched his fist.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ][NPC - Commodore (Reserves) Calvin Perry - Sickbay, Front Ear Station]"Screw that. I can't sleep until I get answers," Calvin objected. He knew he was a patient, but he was also a person, and an increasingly exasperated one. "Folks, I am - was - a Starfleet officer. You don't have to talk past me. Just give me a raktajino." Calvin knew he couldn't order anyone around anymore, but he hoped someone would forget that. He wanted to be helpful, and he couldn't stand being treated like a child.
Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] Niles made certain to point out that he was aware that Vasser was withholding information. He had also observed that the Nyberrite physician, Dr. Bel, had made a quick exit when the telepathic probing had began. He may have been right about being able to argue enough probable cause to attempt to hold the Nyberrite for questioning, but Captain Eastman's call was the right one. Before such a move could be made, actual hard evidence was necessary. And that was the one thing that they were lacking. Niles was frustrated, and it was pretty obvious. "Just a second," Isaiah said as he paused for a moment. "I know that you're frustrated. Believe me, you're not the only one." Isaiah had his own reasons for being frustrated, but that was hardly the issue. "However, just like any case, it's not what you know, it's what you can prove. And right now, that isn't much." Quinn paused. He wasn't telling Niles anything he didn't know, and the last thing he wanted to do was add to the tactical officer's frustrations. "Listen, Vasser is incredibly clever," Isaiah said. "She's very intentional about what she does and what she says. But, she's only one person. If there's nothing to learn from her, then we move on to the next thing." It was certainly true that they could gather facts elsewhere. Of course, Isaiah found it difficult to believe that whatever Vasser had said was a complete non-starter. Though, without the luxury of having been present for that exchange, even he knew that it was best to move on for now. In fact, it seemed that Niles had some sort of notion of his own. He moved back towards the proper of Sickbay and asked Dr. Paawin to run a detailed scan of Commodore. He appeared to be looking for some sort of chemical traces that could shed some light on the matter. Isaiah wasn't sure about medicines being used to erect the mental block in Perry's head, but it was possible that some inconsistencies could be found in the records Dr. Bel had shared. "I doubt they'd falsify Commodore Perry's records," Isaiah stated. "That would be too easy to detect. Though a series of scan could help us determine the half-life of some of those chemicals... and possibly help construct a timeline of when they were introduced into his system."
[NPC - Lieutenant (j.g.) Yvonna Teller-Wright - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] Commodore Perry's outburst shouldn't have been a surprise. He was a high-ranking officer used to being kept in the loop and knowing exactly what was going on. However, now, it seemed as if he were the exact opposite. The 'object' of discussion, and everyone seemed to be talking about him... at him, but not too him. "Sir, you still are very much Starfleet," Yvonna stated reassuringly. "However, you're also a patient. So, your well-being is paramount and neither Doctor Paawin, his staff or I are willing to sacrifice that."The counselor took a deep breath. "Now, I will yield to Dr. Paawin's expertise as to whether or not a raktajino is something that you need right now," Yvonna said. "However, if you want to talk more about what happened... maybe jar more of your memory with just a conversation, I'm willing to help you do that, sir." She hoped that it was a compromise the man could accept. Of course, she did not envy Riyo's position of possibly denying this man a hearty dose of Klingon-level caffeine.
Tag: Joshua Niles , Jovireh Velal (Riyo), Judith Eastman (Perry) [Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Primary Sickbay]When Lt. Niles came back in and asked him to run scans for any lingering traces of drugs, Riyo looked over at him and simply nodded an acknowledgement. He didn't feel the need to explain that was part of the level three diagnostic he had already ordered, and just hadn't had a chance to examine the results yet. Turning his attention back to his patient, Riyo sighed softly at the refusal of a sedative. "Alright, since your vitals are steady and stable, I'll compromise. I won't give you a sedative, but I'm also not going to give you anything to keep you awake, either." Trusting the counselor to do what she could to help Perry find the answers he was looking for, he moved back towards the desk in the corner where the data compilation of the Commodore's medical files was waiting for him. As he passed Lea, he briefly touched her arm. "Just let me know if you need anything," he told her quietly. Taking a seat at the desk, he began to review the information, comparing the new scans with both what Dr. Bel had given him and the Commodore's old files.
Tag Judith Eastman Soft Joshua Niles Leanna Mazal Isaiah Quinn Well, at least Quinn did not overrule him when he went in with his idea. Searching out anomalies, that was part of what he normally did, but typically it was space-based. Mass discrepancies, timing issues, manifest mismatches, stray signatures, this was all part of his expertise. And that was something else to pursue... except this time he needed someone else's eyes on this simply because he did not speak the 'language' the information at hand was using. The Commodore, on the other hand, did not seem to enjoy being just along for the ride here. But, truth be told, he was the evidence. But the issue was that treating him like a 'traumatized patient' meant treating him just as he was, which also meant that any of his recollections or testimony could be easily thrown out as being the fruit of a brutalized mind. But, with him wanting to help, well, Niles could respect that. However, when the Second Officer mentioned doubts at falsifying the Commodore's records, Niles slightly shook his head. "Sir, with respect, they can't very well put '50 CCs mental conditioning drugs' in the charts they would hand over to us if they were the ones behind this mental block. And if they weren't then it was either a deliberate omission based on not wanting to be looked at any harder then they normally would, or it was a lapse due to incomplete scans. So at best it is ineptitude, at worst it is deliberate action hinging on Starfleet's reputation to take this sort of things at face value."However, what he did not say was that the indecent hurry with which the Nyberrites attempted to depart once it was confirmed that Perry was not officially in Starfleet custody, and particularly of the Breen physician, definitely supported the theory of their having knowledge that something wasn't entirely copacetic so far as the patient went. As the doctor got to work, Josh walked up to stand behind him, just waiting to see if something would actually jump out on the display... but not everyone liked having strong visual cues that anomalies had been detected. "Doctor, I know some things can't be rushed, but the Captain can only stall the Nyberrites for so long."

[Primary Sickbay - Front Ear] Sickbay had become a very familiar place of late for Leanna and one that had started to rekindle her earlier interest in expanding her simple first aid knowledge. Sure she knew the basics but it never hurt to learn, an attribute that she had always had, from the minute she could read and write. Of course things had changed a lot since then and her life was a lot busier with a side order of busy on top. That was only going to increase in a few months, likely leaving her with less time for other pursuits. Quiet musings like this were beneficial even if nothing came of her ideas and plans. A tactic if you will to let her mind focus elsewhere, especially after a foray into someone else's mind. Allowing the Betazoid to also keep herself occupied until either needed or Riyo gave her the all clear to leave. Once that happened, Lea had every intention of going home and taking a warm bath, then cheat for dinner by ordering in from either the Beta or A Taste Of Home or possibly the Spudriq. Just because her mind was refocused, didn't mean that Leanna wasn't aware of what was still happening with Perry, wondering if she should recommend Jestral tea instead of the coffee that he had requested. Changing that particular thought as Niles and Isaiah reappeared and so Leanna went back to her other thoughts, switching to her last idea about dinner, whilst letting her hand rest over her abdomen. Although did smile as Riyo checked in with her as he passed on his way to one of the desks. " I will" she replied, appreciating the brief touch and his continued concern.

As it happened, the man had a lot to say. "I just dreamed that I was in a fighter, a Federation fighter, and then it exploded. I know that happened, and that's really why we're here, but I don't remember ever remembering it, or dreaming it, before." Before, it had been like an early childhood story, the kind one knew about only because one's parents kept telling it. But now, Calvin had seen it, and it felt real.

[Ens. Brad Stout / Crewman John Smith - Front Ear - Promenade] Delta 1's duty, much like Delta 2's, consisted primarily of wandering between the three decks of the Promenade and providing backup wherever it was needed. This particular pair had been assigned this particular team for the sake of training, as team 1 was always dispatched before team 2, and thus yielded a greater chance of learning opportunities. It was a new scheduling system put in place by Chief Velal, and so far it seemed to work well. Stout was also grateful he had been assigned as trainer for the new transfer, especially since they were sent to bring in Moz. He was a much better choice than that idiot Beck, at least. "There she is!" The excited declaration from his trainee barely registered before the young Crewman start sprinting across the Promenade. Stout immediately lengthened his strides to catch up, without breaking from a fast and purposeful walk. "Hey! Smith, hold it!" The blond human looked back, frustration clear in his expression. "Never run when you're in uniform. It makes the civilians panic," he scolded gently as he caught up and passed his partner, spotting the priest heading off the Promenade. Considering that was the only priest they'd seen thus far, asides from the clearly Not Bolian vedeks, Stout tapped his com badge. =A="Delta 1 to Velal. Subject spotted. Moving to intercept."=A=Crewman Smith stayed close behind him as they strode across the deck, weaving between the patrons to keep sight of their "priest". The rookies excitement was almost tangible, and Stout had to grin when he recalled the first time he had apprehended someone. Come to think of it... His first arrest had been Avi Moz... As they steadily closed the distance, Stout stepped to the right side of the corridor and gestured for Smith to move to the left, so they flanked the priest as they came up behind them. "Going somewhere, Moz?" He spoke up when they were close enough to maintain pursuit if she decided to run, but still far enough back they could dodge if she decided to turn and fight.

[ Avi Moz | Somewhere heading off the Promenade ]The voice came upon her more quickly than Avi had estimated. She turned around just slow enough to avoid getting phasered in the face by anyone who might be looking for a reason to do so. She saw two humans, Starfleet security, both of them, and one of them Brad Stout with whom she was acquainted. [fn] s2.e3 Taming of the Shrew[/fn] Clearly, Lynch had made his report without delay and clearly Avi's disguise, while otherwise nondescript, was a bit too unique to this particular space station and hadn't bought her as much time as she'd hoped for. "Just spreading word of the incoming Falla, Brad," Avi responded cooly, sliding the mask up off her face. "It's the end of the world, you know." She reached into her robes for a cigar. Running would be useless on a space station, and just make her hungry. And as for throwing a fit, she'd heard there was a new chief of security so how much force was authorized today was an unknown factor. Ending up in Sickbay felt less secure from the Nyberrites than the brig. The latter at least had an armed guard and several force fields. Jovireh Velal

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Primary Sickbay]Feeling someone standing behind him while he read the information on the screen, Riyo stiffened slightly. It had been a very long time since anyone had felt the need to watch him while he worked. The way the security officer seemed to believe he was the only one taking this matter seriously was aggravating, but the doctor tried to keep his thoughts to himself. Hearing the statement, though, he clenched his jaw briefly before answering. "You're right, Lieutenant. A lot of things can't be rushed. Trying to use partial evidence is even more damaging to the case than no evidence." The last thing they needed was for the Alliance to get out of this because all the evidence so far was circumstantial at best. Periodically tapping a few places on the screen, he transferred bits of information from the main file into a new one. Yes, there were concerning readings and gaps of information, but he wasn't sure it would be enough for the detainment of the Soteria. Once he'd finished reading the file and transferring the relevant information, he uploaded his findings onto a PADD and turned to hand it to the over eager Lieutenant. "Give this to the Captain. There are traces of non-prescribed, potentially mind altering drugs in his system; but since it was mentioned in Dr. Bel's report I can't prove the Nybberites were the ones who gave it to him." If it had been them, they covered their tracks well. "Now please leave. I have a patient to attend to, and he doesn't need the added stress of being treated like a sideshow."

Solum responded to Chloe's request to access the Soteria's systems with surprising speed. Chloe had been keeping him up to speed with what they were looking for, and before long, he was sending documents that might be relevant. She quickly examined them, skimming over them to see if any where relevant. Luckily, some were, and they were damning. "Yes!" she exclaimed with excitement, pumping her fist in the air. "Sorry..." she said sheepishly as she looked at the Captain. "I've found communication logs, transcrips, orders. They confirm that the Alliance used some sort of technique to probe Perry's mind for information, and then induced memory loss," she explained as she sent what she had found to Eastman and Taggart. "And it proves Vasser knew. She acknowledged receipt of these messages. She's in on it. This is enough to detain them on plenty of charges."

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - Conference Room 2]Pierce nodded, and sent out a broad request for information to the rest of the ships registered as being in that system around that time. While waiting for responses, he listened to Chloe's report, a sinking sensation taking hold in his chest. It was one thing to suspect what had happened... It was something else entirely to have it confirmed. He turned to the Captain to await her orders, but his attention was grabbed by a ping on his console. "Looks like someone has a guilty conscience. A merchant's sensors picked up a freighter dropping off an escape pod, but when they went to investigate they were warned away before they were within range to scan the pod. He's not saying who sent the warning, but he's offering to send us his sensor and communication logs. Guess leaving well enough alone didn't sit right with him." At least there were some honest people left in the galaxy.
