[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Conference Room]
Solum responded to Chloe's request to access the Soteria's systems with surprising speed. Chloe had been keeping him up to speed with what they were looking for, and before long, he was sending documents that might be relevant. She quickly examined them, skimming over them to see if any where relevant. Luckily, some were, and they were damning. "Yes!" she exclaimed with excitement, pumping her fist in the air. "Sorry..." she said sheepishly as she looked at the Captain. "I've found communication logs, transcrips, orders. They confirm that the Alliance used some sort of technique to probe Perry's mind for information, and then induced memory loss," she explained as she sent what she had found to Eastman and Taggart. "And it proves Vasser knew. She acknowledged receipt of these messages. She's in on it. This is enough to detain them on plenty of charges." [Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - Conference Room 2]Pierce nodded, and sent out a broad request for information to the rest of the ships registered as being in that system around that time. While waiting for responses, he listened to Chloe's report, a sinking sensation taking hold in his chest. It was one thing to suspect what had happened... It was something else entirely to have it confirmed. He turned to the Captain to await her orders, but his attention was grabbed by a ping on his console. "Looks like someone has a guilty conscience. A merchant's sensors picked up a freighter dropping off an escape pod, but when they went to investigate they were warned away before they were within range to scan the pod. He's not saying who sent the warning, but he's offering to send us his sensor and communication logs. Guess leaving well enough alone didn't sit right with him." At least there were some honest people left in the galaxy. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Conference Room]"Oy vey iz mir."Chloe's revelation was a bombshell, laying it all out in black and white. It was crisp, and it was clear. Pierce also made progress. =A= "Eastman to Sickbay. We have information that indicates Perry's memory was probed by the Alliance." =A= That would help guide that group's work. "Well, I think this is a smoking gun. Do you think we can board and search the Soteria without casualties?"

[ LT Joshua Niles - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ]{Spoiler} [Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Primary Sickbay]Feeling someone standing behind him while he read the information on the screen, Riyo stiffened slightly. It had been a very long time since anyone had felt the need to watch him while he worked. The way the security officer seemed to believe he was the only one taking this matter seriously was aggravating, but the doctor tried to keep his thoughts to himself. Hearing the statement, though, he clenched his jaw briefly before answering. "You're right, Lieutenant. A lot of things can't be rushed. Trying to use partial evidence is even more damaging to the case than no evidence." The last thing they needed was for the Alliance to get out of this because all the evidence so far was circumstantial at best. Periodically tapping a few places on the screen, he transferred bits of information from the main file into a new one. Yes, there were concerning readings and gaps of information, but he wasn't sure it would be enough for the detainment of the Soteria. Once he'd finished reading the file and transferring the relevant information, he uploaded his findings onto a PADD and turned to hand it to the over eager Lieutenant. "Give this to the Captain. There are traces of non-prescribed, potentially mind altering drugs in his system; but since it was mentioned in Dr. Bel's report I can't prove the Nybberites were the ones who gave it to him." If it had been them, they covered their tracks well. "Now please leave. I have a patient to attend to, and he doesn't need the added stress of being treated like a sideshow."

Tag Matthew Harmon , Jovireh Velal (x2), Joshua Niles , Isaiah Quinn (x2), Leanna Mazal "Well damn, maybe they can," Niles muttered after a dry chuckle. Having Doctor Paawin report that indeed the Nyberrites did put the presence of mind-altering drugs on the Commodore's chart, though with the statement that they were not prescribed by the attending physician, was a surprise all right. And also served as a nice cut-out to introduce an element of doubt as to whether it was done intentionally, or if someone else had gotten to Perry without official sanction. But either way, it was just what the Lieutenant needed. Now, it was hardly a smoking gun held by a red-handed culprit who had just signed a confession in blood while under oath in front of the Federation Supreme Court, so there was no telling whether Eastman would consider that enough evidence to do anything with, but it was what he had. "Thank you, Doc," he simply answered as he headed back out the door, reviewing the portion showing the condensed findings, and the panels had just hissed open when his commbadge chirped. So, looking for medical evidence within Perry was the Old Lady's plan? Well, time to see if having thought of something ahead of her would pay off, for a change. =A= "Captain, it's already been looked into and I was just about to report to you about that. Doctor Paawin has reviewed the Commodore's chart, and the Commodore was administered a number of mind-altering drugs while under Nyberrite care, but his chart states that those were not prescribed by his attending physician."=A= Now the question was, would she accept his report and his evidence?

[Ens. Brad Stout / Crewman John Smith - Front Ear - Promenade] Brad simply smirked, silently grateful that Moz didn't seem inclined to give them any trouble this time. "End of which world? Yours?" Okay, so he wasn't exactly being professional, but a little banter never hurt anyone right? "Don't worry, we've kept your cell just the way you like it. I honestly think it's starting to miss you." He reached out a hand, gesturing for her to walk with them towards the turbolift. "You're under arrest for assault!" The Crewman blurted out, already taking the cuffs from his belt and moving towards the Bolian. He paused to glance over at Stout. "Oh yeah, she said 'aggravated assault' didn't she?"The Ensign sighed and shook his head, shifting his hand to motion for his rookie partner to put the cuffs away. "Let her finish her cigar while we walk. She won't give us any trouble - will you, Avi?" As troublesome as the Bolian was, she wasn't stupid. It was easier for everyone not to treat her that way.

She reached out to flick him in the eye before moving back to finish lighting her toxic Bolian cigar with the paint-peeling fumes. She didn't like the sound of those charges, but there was naught to do about it now. "Who's aggravated?" Not her, she pretended. "No, Brad, no trouble at all." She head-faked at the Smith-puppy, snapping her teeth at him. She laughed and grinned, unable to keep herself from finding his limit. But she would follow. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] While Lieutenant Niles conferred with Doctor Paawin, Isaiah took a moment to review some notes of his own. Primarily the receipt that Captain Jogann had left with him. Most of it seemed to be in order and very similar to a standard Nyberrite Service Contract. It was something that Isaiah hadn't expected he'd need to familiarize himself with, but considering the amount of Nyberrite traffic that shifted through the region, it had become more common place than he would have suspected. He did look up from the PADD he'd been reviewing with Doctor Paawin gave his synopsis of what he'd found. A long sigh left Quinn's lips as he listened to the report. There were traces of potentially mind-altering drugs Perry's system, but they had all been identified in Doctor Bel's report that was submitted. It also sounded as if Doctor Paawin couldn't identify with any real certainty if the Nyberrite Alliance had been responsible for administering those drugs. Niles seemed pleased that his hunch had paid off to an extent, but while it was something, Isaiah didn't see it as definitive proof that they could act upon. It was almost as if Captain Eastman had been peeking over their shoulders as she commed down to Sickbay with a report rather similar to what Doctor Paawin had shared. The Captain and her team seemed to have uncovered information that suggested that the Alliance had been probing Commodore Perry's mind. Isaiah wasn't certain how much of that had been in earshot of the Commodore, but more and more he preferred this conversation to be a bit more privileged so that it didn't influence Perry's authentic memory retrieval. Niles went on to compare notes, but Isaiah felt it was time to speak up as well. Tapping his combadge, Isaiah spoke aloud after hearing the familiar chirp. =A= "Quinn to Eastman," =A= Isaiah spoke up. =A= "To clarify, Doctor Paawin couldn't confirm with certainty that those potentially mind-altering drugs were actually administered by Nyberrite personnel or while in their care. Only that they were present in his system." =A=Isaiah sighed. Somehow, he felt himself beginning to feel more and more as if he were standing alone on an island when it came to the Alliance, but more specifically, Colonel Vasser. Still, he had an obligation to share what could be the unpopular point of view, especially if it could prevent the Captain from a potential mistake. Though, in the end, the Captain's orders were just that... her orders and they were to be carried out. =A= "If I may, Captain: while Vasser is definitely capable of making mistakes. In my experience, they've never been... blatantly obvious." =A=Quinn could only wonder if his contribution was falling on deaf ears. It was possible that whatever information they had was too compelling to ignore. And yet, if they were wrong, it was possible they could plunge the Federation and the Nyberrite Alliance into a very tense state of coexistence. While waiting to hear back from the Captain, Quinn's eyes dipped back to the receipt on the PADD... the contract number in particular. His brow furrowed, as he noticed that the number which was stationary at the top of the digital document changed in one single place: the recount of Perry's initial retrieval. Isolating the numbers, Quinn couldn't help but realize a distinct pattern. =A= "Captain... there's something else you should see," =A= Isaiah paused to confirm his findings before sharing. =A= "Coordinates." =A= There was no telling what was there... or if anything was at that location. The only thing Isaiah could tell presently was that someone had gone through a great deal of trouble to conceal it... not to mention to get him to personally receive it.
[NPC - Lieutenant (j.g.) Yvonna Teller-Wright - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] Yvonna was more focused on Commodore Perry's recollections, if one could call them that, rather than everything else that was happening. "I see," she stated. Though... she certainly didn't see. She decided to push for a bit more clarification about what he was experiencing. "So... are you saying that it isn't an authentic memory? And what I mean by that is: I know that you can recall the facts about what happened, but can you recall what it felt like? Sensations? Smells? What you were thinking at the time?"

[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Conference Room]"That's something at least," Chloe said to Taggart. "A boarding action could be costly if they choose to fight back. I'm not sure they would, but it's a risk. We could impound the Soteria, refuse to let them leave but stop short of boarding. Recall the Mac and inform Starfleet, have reinforcements sent. We can try and demand Vasser comes in for an interview," she paused, knowing it was unlikely Vasser would do that. It was still worth a try in Chloe's mind. "The drawback is they can purge their databases and it could result in a standoff if they try and resist." Niles further confirmed the proof that the Alliance did something to Perry, it was now extremely difficult for them to justifiably back down. At least with the Alliance they didn't have any leverage comparable to trillium. Maybe Starfleet would actually be willing to put their foot down, rather than allow a foreign mercenary group to assault and steal information, likely classified and sensitive, from a flag officer. Unfortunately, Quinn decided to try and defend the indefensible again. Chloe was surprised this time though, in the face of all this clear evidence that he would still choose to defend his former Commanding Officer against another prior CO. It was very suspect, especially given the Alliance's nature as a self serving mercenary group and its tendency to recruit Starfleet officers. Based on his behaviour, it wasn't inconceivable that he could be getting some form of kickbacks.

[NPC - Commodore (Reserves) Calvin Perry - Sickbay, Front Ear Station]Calvin shook his head. "I remember it all vividly. I remember the little shaving cut I gave myself that morning, right here," he answered, pointing to a spot on his left temple. "I remember that new-ship smell the fighter had; it's one of my favorite smells." But that wasn't it. "I also smelled the burning smell when the fighter blew up, and I remember the pain," he added, reluctantly thinking about that part too.

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - Conference Room 2]Taggert immediately shook his head at the question of boarding the Alliance vessel. "Not without the crew's complete cooperation. We simply don't have enough people trained for boarding. There's only a few I would even trust to have decent instincts for it." Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, considering how rarely such a situation came up on this station. "The safest bet would be to lockdown the Soteria to prevent unauthorized departure, request another meeting with the Colonel and her senior staff, and detain them at the dock." Hopefully they were close to getting Moz in the brig. Velal would be invaluable here, and she knew her team better than he did and could bring the best with her.

The nearer they got to the brig, the more her stomachs calmed down. Jovireh Velal [Ens. Brad Stout / Crewman John Smith - Front Ear - Promenade] Johnny quickly leaned back to avoid the hand that flicked towards his face, reaching up to grab her wrist but was too slow and missed by several inches. "Probably the person you attacked!" he near-shouted in response to her question, reaching for her wrist once more. Brad shook his head in silent warning against trying again. As expected, he was next in her taunting, but he didn't react to her snapping teeth. God that cigar smelled awful... Due to the nature of the charges, he led the way to the turbolift to take them to the primary security node, as opposed to the cells in the Promenade office. Those were more for the drunken disorderlies, vandalism and shoplifting offenses. It was a long, silent and smelly ride, but they finally made it to the brig. Telling Smith to start the booking process - he wasn't about to let a rookie search Moz - he began the routine pat down, as usual pulling out a wide assortment of items from the pockets and folds of the robes. Finding the awl, he held it up curiously. "Scan this into the file so they can compare it with the medical scans of the victim." Although he didn't know the nature of the assault, 'aggravated' typically meant a weapon was involved. But as he continued searching, he ended up pulling out several knives... And passed those over as well for the same purpose. "Expecting trouble, Avi?" he asked with a hint of amusement in his voice. The pad of names was interesting, and he set it aside to run them through the computer later. In a matter of minutes he was leading her into her usual cell and activating the forcefield. "Go ahead and get comfortable. You'll be here for awhile."

Niles had corroborated their source's revelations, and this was welcomed.

This is difficult, I know, but the CO you once knew is at least complicit in something that is truly... despicable." =A= Judy then turned her gaze to the duo in the room with her. "I'll contact Vasser. Maybe Isaiah is right, and she is playing her own game, or maybe she'll just realize when she's lost.
Tag: Judith Eastman (& Perry), Joshua Niles Soft Tag: Jovireh Velal (Taggert & Riyo), Matthew Harmon (Chloe) [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Conference Room 2]=A= "Thank you, Lieutenant." =A= Niles had corroborated their source's revelations, and this was welcomed.
Processing Isaiah's comments proved a more complicated task for Judy. She felt his judgement was clouded, more so and for more complex reasons than everyone else's. =A= "Commander, go ahead and look up what's at those coordinates," =A= she ordered. For a moment, she thought herself content to leave it there, to see the conflicted officer tend to his tasks outside the decision curve, but... that wasn't who she was. =A= "The evidence that we've found is... jarring, young man, and it is damning. Stand by to extract our asset if need be."Or maybe Admiral Ellis will show up at exactly the right time to mess things up again[fn]OOC: from a GMing perspective, this is one of many roads not taken[/fn]. =A= "Eastman to Vasser. We've come into possession of some new information. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could come back to my office." =A=
Tag Isaiah Quinn (Isaiah & Vasser), Jovireh Velal , Matthew Harmon , Joshua Niles Well, at least that wasn't thrown back into his face, that was a start... However, there was nothing else sent his way other than that acknowledgement and he found himself, suddenly, at loose ends. That was, until he overheard what the conversation between the Captain and Mister Quinn. Clearly he didn't like the idea that Vasser was up to her elbows in this whole mess and he wanted to defend her... which was enough to make him wince, and not just from the pain that was radiating from the interface between his leg of flesh and blood and his prosthesis; so perhaps there were divided loyalties that might become truly problematical at this point. And he had been given coordinates? And he admitted to it? That was most definitely complicating things all right... and as much as he hated to question the Second Officer's loyalty, there were matters when he ought to step in. Especially if whatever was there might the sort of thing that could be truly thorny. And if they were dealing with the Nyberrites, the odds were pretty good that what would be at those coordinates would be of a military nature rather than a scientific curiosity. "Sir, maybe... you should take a step back here and let me have a look?"That was as diplomatic a delivery as Niles could manage, but his tone was certainly not accusatory, more like an entreaty for the Lieutenant-Commander to recuse himself and spare him having to be slapped in the face with more evidence that someone he once respected was up to no good. And it would also remove any temptation to not fully report what would be found there, or at least the appearance of a possibility that he might hold something back.

[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Conference Room]Chloe didn't think Vasser would come over, but it was the logical next move for now and at this point there wouldn't be much extra fallout if they already went to the level of impounding the Soteria. "Playing her own game or not, she knows something," Chloe said. And she was complicit to some degree. Extracting the asset would be difficult if the Soteria were to lock down, but there were a few options. Potentially he could be transported out, but Chloe began to prepare and examine some contingency plans that were more adventurous. At this point, there was little suspicion on Solum so without another streak of bad luck, his position seemed safe enough for now.

[Ens. Brad Stout / Crewman John Smith] Johnny quickly leaned back to avoid the hand that flicked towards his face, reaching up to grab her wrist but was too slow and missed by several inches. You'll be here for awhile." [ Avi Moz | Primary brig ]Avi tolerated the routine search but rolled her eyes when Brad referred to that whining Lynch as a 'victim'. He'd had worse burning his soft human tongue on lukewarm coffee, she was sure. "Always, Brad," she replied when he asked if her on-person knife collection indicated any well-founded paranoia. Avi was freed of her accoutrements and authentic priestly doomsday mask, and her cigar disposed off down the hazard chute, but she allowed to keep on the voluminous robe. She stood at the force field, not yet retiring to the bunk. "Hey." She hadn't earned herself any goodwill with these two soft louts, and this was her heaviest offense against the peace of the station so far. Expecting any helpful answers was stretching it. "What's the word on the Nyberrites? Why are they here?" Lynch had told her it was about that admiral Perry or whoever, but it was possible he was stupid. Jovireh Velal

Crewman John Smith - Front Ear - Promenade] Stout paused when he heard Avi's question, briefly wondering how much he should tell her. It wasn't like he had much information to begin with, and what he did know was bound to be common knowledge soon enough. "They apparently found Commodore Perry alive in an escape pod and brought him back. That's really all I know about it." Well, that and the fact that Chief Velal had doubled security on the Promenade in case the mercenaries decided to get rowdy. But that seemed to be not what she cared about, so with a small shrug he left it at that and made his way back to the desk to help Smith process her belongings and file the report. =A="Ensign Stout to Chief Velal. We have Moz securely in custody. You'll be getting the report shortly."=A==A="Acknowledged. Good work."=A=

[ Avi Moz | Primary Brig ]The security guard confirmed Lynch's story about their lost-and-found commodore, but she wasn't quite satisfied. The guy walked off, but she rapped her knuckles on the wall and called after him. "Hey! I want to talk to Harmon." He was so chatty earlier. So eager to help. And always sticking his nose where it didn't belong. Maybe he had something better than this station's persistent daddy issues. Jovireh Velal (Brad and John)
