[ Senior Chief Melihn Ryah - Briefing Room --> Promenade] I think we've all got some people like that left in our departments, Ryah commented wryly in response to Harmon's words. But your help would be most appreciated, especially with the computer aspects. I don't have too many people with skills in those fields. As they headed out of the briefing room, Ryah had to trot to keep up with the other two officers, but she was in prime form, so the extra speed barely elevated her heart rate. She raised a brow at the young woman who joined them (the commander's assistant?), but figured Commander Eastman had her reasoning. That sounds reasonable. I'll work up a new duty roster after we check out this break-in, Ryah said as the turbolift whisked them off to the promenade. This is the first one on the main promenade. A few other businesses have had their doors tagged or attempts to break in, but this one sounds bad. She shook her head as the turbolift slowed to a halt and opened to let them proceed down the main thoroughfare to the Blue Beta Bar & Grill. She was pleased to see Sosa and Aune already there, doing their jobs. [Breifing Room --> Promenade] "I can certainly help oversee the cyber-sleuthing," he nodded, despite not having many computer skills himself. Still, Ensign Hudson could do the heavy lifting and he could help direct her and interpret whatever she found. "All I need is to be sent the files and reports on the problems and Intelligence can get on it." Harmon noted that the Commander was walking surprisingly quickly. He had no trouble keeping up, being a rather tall and fit man but it surprised him nevertheless. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Turbolift -> Blue Beta Bar & Grill]Judy listened, as the lift went down and approached the promenade. Mabel did too, though she didn't have a full understanding of it all. "I'd actually be inclined to second personnel from engineering, however many we can shift off the roster, to work on the breaches as well. Now's the time to throw everything we got at this, since it seems they are getting more brazen."With the last statement, the First Officer nodded to her Chief of Security, who had described as much. "I'd also like to have Mabel sit in on that, on my behalf," she added. They approached the scene of the crime. It didn't look good to Judy's aging eyes. It appeared the glass protecting the place had been cut, and rather smoothly at that, though there was a small thing snagged upon it. "Mabel, I need you to take notes for me," she ordered, eyeing the young woman who nodded and retrieved a PADD. Judy then approached the group. "Commander Judy Eastman, First Officer," she introduced herself. She then waited to be updated.

"I can return to my office and get going right away." Harmon had read Halgerdur's file once he had discovered he was on board. From what he read, the man was utterly contemptible. Getting your crew killed because you made a mistake would be one thing, but for greed? That was unforgivable. And now he was here trying to play detective. Harmon refrained from saying anything, nor making any apparent reaction to the man. It wasn't his place and he saw that Ryah seemed to be on top of it.

| Blue Beta Bar and Grill |Observing and listening, that was what Rio excelled in, at least in situations like this where she was the junior person here, and new, so it was better to just take things in, and then weigh in later, if she had anything to 'weigh in' with! The drone theory was quite plausible, she thought, and that was yet another testament to how lax Security was with the prior administration and how much work they had to get things back on track. And there was a good reason to not be an officer! All she had to do was what she was told, and that wasn't going to be unraveling this mess and getting things functional again. "Has there been anything like this before?" she finally asked, "I mean, if this is a new sort of break-in, maybe this was just a trail run for something bigger?" And there were certainly more lucrative targets on the station, so once they had their technique perfected, whoever was behind this could get away with a big haul. [ Leanna & Seamus - Blue Beta Bar & Grill] Leanna was aware how Fells suddenly stood back when Aune and his associate arrived and began asking questions. Not suprising and understandable, given the circumstances and how he had just been released from a penal colony. Although she did appreciate his use of their connection in another attempt to calm her, which made her look towards him. Okay his choice of words could of been a little softer, but at least he had tried. However it was easier said than done and could already feel a painful twinge somewhere in the region of her abdomen. Shaking it off as she focused on the security officers, especially when Fells then pointed out how the thieves had bypassed the bar's systems. That made her appreciate him even more, at how he was using his skills and squeezed his hand to show him that, before Aune introduced himself and Sosa and reached out to shake hands. Both her and Seamus responded to this friendly gesture, as Lea then returned the introductions. " I wish it was under happier circumstances for us to meet properly, but I'm Leanna Mazal and this is Seamus Flanagan, who will be able to answer that for you, as I left early last night but as for the security footage, yes we do have that and it's located in my office" she replied, as Seamus then answered what she couldn't. " I didn't see anything unusual, when I was closing up, then again we were quite busy so it was possible I might of missed something".Lea looked towards her Manager, knowing that this wasn't easy for them, before Aune then spoke with Fells, curious as to why he was led away for a moment. However a rather active baby was making himself known and she was ready to sit down. But held on as they returned and asked Fells to share his theory about what he had found.

[Blue Beta Bar & Grill- Fells Halgerdur] More and more personell arrived at the bar. Now it was senior chief Ryah. Fells momentarily got distracted by Leas expression...or was it a sensation through their connection? He looked at her with questioning blue eyes, when suddenly the security officer, who was built like a brick ...house, took him aside. For a second he held his breath without realizing it. How did that guy know his name? Hearing that Aune knew who he was and probably what he had done, made him remember the tracker. He briefly turned his wrist up where a small scar marked where he had received the prison colony tracker. Apparently it was still active and used for probation. "Don't worry. I will." He assure him under his breath. Thankful that Aune made it sound like they had discussed the break in, he took a deep breath and then motioned to the window again. Another noteworthy person made her appearance now: The First Officer herself. Fells had to do a double take. Obviously the break in was being taken very seriously....which made him want to get out of there as quickly and under the radar as possible. "The hole they cut in the safety glass is big enough to insert a drone or other device. Since this is a Jaque 3.15 security system, you need something to dock the security panel, which is not near the door. I'd say someone with some programming skills did this or..." he looked around and spotted the security panel behind the bar. The mirror close by was broken into a thousand pieces. "...or they modified a pulse rifle to emit a directional low-level EMF?"He pursed his lips rather pleased with his own conclusions. | Blue Beta Bar and Grill |Observing and listening, that was what Rio excelled in, at least in situations like this where she was the junior person here, and new, so it was better to just take things in, and then weigh in later, if she had anything to 'weigh in' with! [ Senior Chief Melihn Ryah - Turbolift --> Blue Beta Bar & Grill] As soon as I get back to my office, I'll send you the data we have so far and check with engineering who they my be able to spare to help out. Chief Ozu would have been ideal - she's great with the computers - but she's gone with the captain to Kerelia. As they approached the Blue Beta Bar, Ryah turned a critical eye on the broken glass and the mess inside. Someone had certainly done a number on the place. It looked like Aune and Sosa had things in hand, and Ryah didn't want them to feel like she was hovering. If they'd been a pair of incumbents, she might have wanted to check their work, but these two had shown themselves to be trustworthy. Ryah listened with interest as the civilian man explained what he thought had happened. He looked familiar, and Ryah's back stiffened as she suddenly realized who he was. She'd seen his picture and file come across her desk just a day or two ago. Excuse me, she said in a raised voice. I'm so sorry this happened, and I know you probably want to get things straightened up, but can we clear out the extra people for now, until my officers have finished checking things out?Focusing on Fells, she asked, How are you involved with this?
|Blue Beta Bar and Grill || lt. Sven Aune | Sven remained passive but pensive as Fells spoke. It was a sound theory and he appreciated the insight. A drone that could pop the lock so to say. The question was, which way did the glass fall. He eyed it again. Then ensign Rio weighed in. Once again he listened, trying to gather in what happened. He could see the proprietors and their state of dismay and his heart went out for them. A breaking and entry was a direct violation into some ones dreams and hard work. "Commander Eastman." he greeted as the senior officer stepped forward. "As you can see the Blue Beta Bar and Grill was broken into last night. We have just started asking questions and begun the investigation. As you can see, there was drone sized hole cut into the glass and Mr. Helgerdur has offered up a theory. I believe it is a sound one. We may need to bring in a forensics team."Though when the chief of security approached, it sounded like she was blaming the ex-convict for the crime. He inwardly groaned. So much for fostering good will. He however did not say anything as it would have undermined the command structure. Perhaps later he would ask for clarification. But she did have one good point. All unessential people needed to clear out. _________ Judith Eastman Ozu Saya Fells Halgerdur Rio Sosa Thea Baker [ Leanna & Seamus - Blue Beta Bar & Grill] It wasn't long before they were joined by the First Officer and three other Starfleet Officer's recognising one as the Security Chief. As Judy made her introduction, Lea nodded respectively before Fells then shared his theory with them all. Listening intently, whilst ignoring the discomfort that she was in and was glad that Fells was here, using his knowledge and experience to what sounded as a very plausible theory. She had never once doubted that and conveyed that through their link. Hoping that it would be taken into consideration, despite the fact that he was no longer a serving member of the fleet. The Betazoid then looked to Crewman Sosa as she added her own thoughts to this mess and whilst disturbing to think about, again it was no doubt something for the experts to look into. " Not here at least" Lea added, as the Security Chief approached and shared her sympathy, before requesting for any people that shouldn't be here to vacate the area until her officers had finished checking everything out. That was understandable and Lea had no issue with sending her staff away for the time being and knew that either her, Seamus or both of them could remain if needed. " Thank you and certainly I can clear my staff, would you need myself or my Manager to remain here?" she asked, as Ryah then focused on Fells. Realising that they were obviously aware of who he was, Lea knew it was a reasonable and fair question to ask as she held onto her Partner's hand so she could be supportive. If she was to be sent away, she thought of perhaps hiding out at Brooke's cafe until they were cleared to return, but part of her needed to see inside and start figuring out the tidy up. That was in the hands of Starfleet as Aune then gave his report to Commander Eastman.
tag Rio Sosa , Ozu Saya , soft tags Fells Halgerdur , Sven Aune , Judith Eastman , Matthew Harmon [Blue Beta Bar - Fells Halgerdur] Contributing a theory about how the security system was bypassed felt good, almost like old times. Fells was an expert in this field and he had personally installed that same system in Leas former restaurant. The broad shouldered officer seemed to receive the information well but Fells could see some irritation on Senior Chief Ryahs face. Then she suddenly asked him how he was involved with this. It was the Icelanders turn to stiffen because it was pretty obvious that she had also been alerted of his 'status'. There was more though. She seemed to think he was somehow 'involved' in the crime....or did she mean the bar? Fells became defensive. "I'm the owners boyfriend." His expression became hard. "Other than that I have no involvement. I literally just set foot on this station for the first time ever half an hour ago."He was starting to feel nervous, thanks to six months in prison, which he never wanted to repeat for his and Leas sake. [ Senior Chief Melihn Ryah - Blue Beta Bar & Grill] Ryah recognized Lea as the owner of the bar from a couple of visits she'd had here, so she nodded at the woman. Yes, please. You and the manager, and anyone else who has anything they want to share, she said to Lea. Sosa, Aune, call in forensics, but you two start looking around carefully. Finally, she turned her full attention to the man she'd addressed, noting his change in expression and posture. Ryah sighed quietly. As an extremely small person, especially in her line of work, she occasionally expressed herself too aggressively, especially when dealing with large, masculine men. It was almost unconscious, and Ryah realized she'd started off with the wrong tone. She was wary of an ex-convict, but she'd always made it a policy to give the benefit of the doubt unless shown otherwise. Mr... she hesitated, searching her memory for the man's name. It was something long and unusual. Hal-Hal-ger-ber? I'm sorry. I'm Chief Melihn, the chief of security for the station. I just meant to ask what your involvement was with the bar. I'm sorry your arrival was darkened by this break in. It sounded like you had some ideas about how it might have done. Would you mind explaining to me while my people check things out?

OOC: There was a yucky amount of quotes, so I've opted to forgo quoting entirely. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. - Blue Beta Bar & Grill]Judy stood and listened. She wasn't sure what the deal with the fair-haired man was, but she assumed her Chief of Security had a reason to question him. She'd had the chance to encounter the owner, Lea Mazal, both in the course of her outreach as First Officer, and Max's quest to identify the best restaurants on the station, so there was that. She let Ryah send the security personnel to their work, and then turned to Harmon. "Actually, Lieutenant, that might not be prudent just yet," she told him quietly, in an aside, before turning to the manager. "Ms. Mazal, if you or your manager would like to give statements, Mr. Harmon and myself can take them," she then added. "We can sit down for it here if you have a place, or head up to my office. My Yeoman, Ms. Henriksen, can record.""That's me," Mabel piped up sheepishly. "If you don't want to make statements, we can't force you to, but we'd appreciate it if you do."At the crime scene, Sven and Rio would find some dandruff about, as well as a small piece of dark orange and solid purple striped fabric snagged on a glass shard. This fabric bit had just a little red stain on it.

[Blue Beta Bar & Grill]Rio glanced at Sven and shrugged. "Best start with the security glass?" she suggested, after all, that was the presumed point of access, at least in the 'drone' theory, which made sense. "Do you think a drone could breech the glass?" she then asked, frowning. She wasn't an expert on drones, but it seemed that a common sort might have to bash into one spot several times, at least, to break the thick, reinforced glass, and likely anything stout enough to get in quickly would make a bigger hole. "Shouldn't the glass breaking set off an alarm before the system could be disabled?" They'd have to check logs when they had a chance to see if there was any anomaly. Once at the glass, she frowned. "Well, what do I know?" Chuckling, she shook her head. "Looks cut more than smashed." But then, someone would have had to stand there and do that unchallenged...it was quite odd. "Is that fabric?" Squatting down to get a closer look, Rio examined a bit of glass that seemed to have something on it, definitely didn't belong... Sven Aune

[ Leanna & Seamus - Blue Beta Bar & Grill] The emotions emanating from her Boyfriend as he went from feeling helpful to defensive in a matter of moments, was understandable given the question he had been asked. Although his answer was the truth and if she had to vouch for him then she would. This whole situation was tense and fraught, yet Lea knew that she had to restore some kind of calm within. However as Ryah, then answered her question about who should stay, Lea responded almost immediately, acknowledging the recognition from the Security Chief. " Okay, I'll have the rest of my staff wait elsewhere, until its safe to return".With her now speaking to the Security Officer's, Lea turned to the staff who had arrived with Seamus and told them to go wait at Brooke's cafe, where either her or Seamus would call them when they could return. Watching them leave, before giving her attention to the rest of the group outside the bar, as Ryah spoke with and apologised to Fells. Lea appreciated her intentions and reasoning behind her initial question, hoping that now it had been explained, Fells would continue helping. Besides no one knew the system better than he did, apart from Seamus who had followed his instructions to replicate what they had at the old bar here. When Commander Eastman then spoke to her directly, Lea thought about her question and the options that came with it. Having established a decent working relationship with Starfleet back on Sierra, she saw no point in being difficult and refusing to do something that could help with the investigation. Besides she had spoken to the First Officer when she had visited the bar with her husband albeit briefly but still, it made the decision easy enough as to what her answer would be. Of course she could offer the use of her office, but then the thought hit her of whether that had been trashed too and she wasn't sure she could deal with seeing such a violation right now. In fact it made her blood run cold, as the security officers got to work. Acknowledging Mabel and those she was talking too. " I'm willing to give a statement, whilst Seamus remains here to help your officer's along with my partner Fells, as for where we can go, I think your office might be the better option as I don't know what state my office is currently in and if that's been trashed too".She was being honest and perhaps some time away from the bar, would clear her mind a little, as well as the desire to just sit. Turning to both Fells and Seamus, " I shouldn't be too long and I'll come back here once I'm done, so we can begin sorting everything out".

[Blue Beta bar - Fells Halgerdur] For a moment Fells own thoughts and feelings became so massive that he disconnected from Lea but he was still aware that she didn't like this situation at all and that something was going on with her, that he couldn't define but it worried him.
The chief caught his attention now, though. It was obvious that all these security people here had a pretty good idea, who he was. Heck, they even got his name half right without Fells introducing himself. Apparently security on board the station was pretty good and well staffed since there were so many present at the bar. At least that's what he thought for now. Chief Melihn explained that she would like to hear his theory in detail, which somewhat calmed him down. He really didn't want to battle invisible shadows of his past when he had already started to better himself long before he was sent to prison. Swallowing his pride Fells complied. "Sure. I'll tell you everything I know."
To hear that Lea wanted to go elsewhere to give her statement wasn't making him happy but Fells had to tell himself that she had been dealing with things on her own for 6 months now. He briefly squeezed her hand and said. "Just take care of yourself." His eyes wandered to her large belly, then he nodded and turned back to Ryah.
"The system, which has been installed, can only be deactivated by voice from the inside. That means that Seamus or Lea would unlock the door with a key card. They then have 1 minute to get to the control panel and deactivate the system by voice. If not, station security will be alarmed."
He then pointed to the window. "Since we've got a smooth little hole in the glass over there, there are two ways, that I could think of to bypass this if you don't have the key card. One is subtle, sophisticated, the other blunt. The blunt one would be to use a modified impuls gun. It would kill every electronic system in its path. It has to be directional so it doesn't screw up the register. The smoother one needs some prework. They would have had to record Leas or Seamus' voice and then load the sound file on a drone and fly it close to the panel in the wall."
When he was finished he didn't know how they'd get the voice sample, so he favoured the impuls gun theory but he wasn't sure yet. "Do you have similar break ins on the station?" In all of the theory he had forgotten that he wasn't 'one of them....one of security' anymore and not supposed to be asking questions.

She chewed at a thumbnail in concentration as he spoke, her brow furrowing as she considered the possibilities. Offering a gentle smile when he'd finished, Ryah said, I'm afraid I can't discuss any ongoing investigations with you; however...if either of your suggested methods were used, it would be...unique. And also highly sophisticated. She chewed her lip in consternation. No, I don't like those at all. Someone would have had to been casing the bar for at least a few days. So, a targeted EM pulse to disable the security system? If that's the case, it should leave some trace, shouldn't it? Ryah's mind was running a hundred different directions. This could be a good point to bring in engineering, and she'd need to have someone look over video feed from the bar for the last few days, assuming... Does the security system include video?

His focus was now solely on Ryah and the technical theories of the break in. "Come with me." Fells waved her over to the controll panel that was installed behind the bar. He set a few bottles and glasses aside to get better access to it. Below it was a small computer console. He tapped on it but nothing happened. "Hm...doesn't work....maybe that impuls killed it." He then fumbled around to get a small card out of its core. It took him a moment but his fingers were too big. "My fingers are too big. Can you get the memory card out? It contains the video and audio files."
He crosses his arms to stand back and look at the ceiling to see where the cameras had been installed. "You might get lucky and see someone in the far left corner if that camera up there, that's aimed at the door, has an angle that's wide enough."

[ Senior Chief Melihn Ryah - Blue Beta Bar & Grill] Ryah followed the large man and peered at the control panel as he began fiddling with it. She was disappointed when the panel itself didn't come alive, but brightened when he revealed the memory card. She pulled it free, flipping it over to examine it. There were no external signs that anything was wrong with the small bit of tech, but it still could have been erased if some device had been used to disable the security system. I'll have someone check this out, and I'd like engineering to have a look at this panel before we do anything else with it. They might be able to tell us exactly what happened to it.
Excuse me for a moment. She tapped her combadge. =/\= Chief Melihn to Hugo. Lieutenant, I need an engineer to do a bit of sleuthing for me in the Blue Beta Bar on the promenade.Sure, Chief, the engineer's deep voice replied promptly. Here came another giant of a man for Ryah to deal with, but George Hugo was a good sort. I'll be up myself in a few minutes. Thanks, Lieutenant. =/\= Ryah turned back to Fells. That's a boon. If we can't have the chief engineer herself, her assistant is almost as good. And I think he has some previous experience in security or something. That'll be helpful.

“Aye, ma’am,” he replied to the Commander as she ordered him to help take statements. He followed as they headed off to the XO’s office to take the owners statement.
“I’m sorry about all this,” he said to Lea, his tone impassive. Though he was sincere he often struggled to communicate his intentions and emotions properly.

Mabel set up to record. "State your name for the record, and tell us what you know."

After promising that she would be careful, Lea followed alongside the first officer, the Lieutenant and Mabel, leaving her precious bar behind, but knew it was in safe hands. Her head was spinning and she still felt uncomfortable but if anything she was just looking forward to sitting down and taking the weight off her feet. When Harmon apologised about all of this, the Betazoid appreciated the sentiment behind it. " Thank you, not what I expected today, but I'm sure we'll catch those responsible" she replied, hoping that they could. Once inside Judy's office, she took a moment to take in its grandeur and how comfy the chairs looked, as well as all of the personal touches, before Judy told her to go ahead and sit anywhere, as well as what she wanted Lea to do. Leanna smiled as she responded to the FO, " Thank you, I can't tell you how much I need to sit right now and understood".Finding the nearest seat, Lea lowered herself into it and instantly felt relief, as Judy poured the water and asked her to begin. " My name is Leanna Mazal, as for what I know, everything seemed normal and fine last night, when I left the bar, Seamus was in charge of locking up as he has done lots of times. Then this morning, we'd arranged for him to open up so I could go meet the transport and be there when Fells departed."Lea paused for a moment to take a sip of water then continued. " That's when we got the call about the break in and we got there just before Starfleet arrived".She had said everything that she knew and waited to see if there would be any questions.

Sven Aune |Blue Beta Bar and Grill || lt. Sven Aune |The scene really did warrent a forensics team. And doubly so when Rio had noticed a strip of orange fabric with a purple stripe snagged on some of the jetting glass. The large man moved closer to inspect and there was a slight red stain upon it. "Ya. And look." he said, NOT touching the evidence, "There's a red stain on it. Could be blood. Wine, or a whole slew of other things. That will have to go off to the lab." he glanced around a bit more. Near the strip, on the floor was a white flakey substance. "That...That looks like dandruff."The chief of security called in the order to have forensics. She saw the need too. Aune tapped his combadge. =/\= "Security, this is lieutenant Aune. I need you to send in a forensics team to the Blue Beta Bar and Grill A.S.A.P" =/\= he left it at that. You never knew who was monitoring what. The chief was talking to Fells again, but the tone had changed. He caught bits and pieces of it and from their change in demeanor to something more relaxed they must have reconciled. He returned his attention to Rio. "Ya. Looks like we might be able to get a DNA sample from that. Can you keep looking around to see if there is anything out of place. I'd also like to review the security footage as well."Sven was quite sure where intellegance fell into all of this. He suspected that since the big guns were drawn in, this was going to be much bigger than a simple break-in. His mind instantly went to a mafia organization. Perhaps the syndicate. But he would comply with whatever was needed to help ease the investigation. _________ Tags Judith EastmanOzu SayaRio Sosa

It was a reminder of what was at stake here: the safety of her daughter. She listened to Leanna's statement, and Harmon's questions. "In the interest of being as thorough as we can, I'll add a few more questions to that. I hope it's not too overwhelming," she gently cut in, speaking in an even softer tone than usual. "Who else knew of your arrangement this morning? At what time did the bar close? Who had access to or knowledge of your security systems?"
"I'd also appreciate it if you could clarify, for the record, what is your relationship with... Fells?"Judy sat down at one of her ergonomic chairs. Through this all, Mabel silently recorded the statement. She was a good yeoman, and that meant doing as she was told.
