[NPCs - SilverTail and Two Dawns - Holodeck 2] Two Dawns spun and rushed back to the rest of the group when she heard Kova scream. The Sivaoan skidded to a stop, claws out, teeth bared, looking for the threat. She froze when she noticed SilverTail standing calmly with his tail in a tight corkscrew. He reached out and grabbed the end of the trailing vine, holding it up for inspection. I'm sorry, Kkova. I think this vine fell down and brushed against you. I didn't think I'd left any long ones like that, but there it is.Two Dawns' skin rippled as she settled her fur flat and retracted her claws. We should get moving, she said. Though her words were brisk, her tone was slightly warmer than it had been. Judy just made a suggestion that might speed things along. If the four of us cut the saplings and drag them back to the clearing, Judy and Max can strip the branches. Or Kova, if you prefer to also remain in the clearing, that is your choice. Two Dawns assessed the party for a moment before nodding. Yes, that is a good idea. I had not taken into account the relative diversity in abilities your people might exhibit. I saw several saplings that will suffice over here, she said, heading back in the direction she'd been leading them. SilverTail gave the long, drooping vine a speculative tug, but it seemed to be held fast now; he was fairly certain that he hadn't left any loose vines, but without familiarity with this technology, he couldn't tell for certain. SilverTail brought up the rear, keeping his eyes to the canopy to look for more vines.
Tag Isaiah Quinn , Judith Eastman and Sven Aune [NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Holodeck Two, Front Ear Station] It wasn't easy, shaking the phantom sensations that something was still crawling about her skin. Even though Commander Eastman's suggestion that if she didn't feel it any longer that it was likely gone were completely sound, the Andorian still found it difficult to rid herself of the feeling. "Perhaps so," she said to the woman's words. Though her eyes were still intent on finding the culprit. A reasonable explanation came in the form of SilverTail who pointed out one of the vines that was lingering low enough from the tree to have been the true culprit. It seemed that the explanation wasn't only suitable for her, but for the other Sivaoan, Two Dawns, whom was ready to defend against whatever threat she thought was in the area. Kova nodded at SilverTail appeased by his explanation. "No apology is warranted," she stated. Still, in her mind, she did want to have a few words with whomever thought it was necessary to include crawling things in this particular scenario. Commander Eastman's suggestion of organizing the workload did sound like a promising one. Though, the suggestion that Kova sit this out was not one the Andorian was willing to accept. Her own pride, would not allow her to accept such a suggestion. "I am still capable of completing the task," she said as she proceeded to work on the next sapling of suggested size.

Setting down her hatchet, Judy went over to the first, by now branch-free, sapling, and measured it... or at least tried. The tape wouldn't unspool when she pulled gently, and when she tugged more forcefully, some of it just crumbled, like a thin cracker. "Dammit!" she exclaimed.

Or, at least that was supposed to be their objective. It wasn't until Kova brought the sapling she had just cut down that she noticed the mature couple rather inactive considering their objective. Perhaps they were tired, or perhaps they had injured themselves. Humans were already prone to injury compared to the variety of species that littered the galaxy. There may have been some concerned that this was the case here. Either that, or fatigue had overtaken them. Either way, she assumed the wise decision would be to check on them. "Is everything all right?" Kova asked moving towards the pair. "You're not injured are you?"

[NPCs - CopperTail to-Allanien & Sundancer to-Srallansre - Holodeck 1]{Click me, if you dont mind parting with your appetite.} Only moments after being exposed, the animals in the bush screamed loudly. [Shavan Th’zhaar, Holodeck 1] “I’ll try making the stone tip.” Shavan had said to the Sivaoans after they had given the group the option, and explained that they were going to be after animals similar to targs. It might not come out perfect but it sounded like the more practical option. But before they could get started on that, he was distracted by watching the human man, who had apparently decided not to wait for the end of the lesson to investigate the still-present rustling. Shavan was curious to see what it was too. At the human’s shout he instinctively held his spear up ready to defend against an attack. He moved to try to see past Fells from a safe distance, spear at the ready. “What is- aargh” He didn’t have to wait long to see what they were as the creatures suddenly swarmed out of the bushes. They looked nothing like targs. And the Sivaoans’ reactions confirmed that they were not actually the things they were preparing to hunt. As the swarm of them got close Shavan used the spear to whack them away from all sides, not hesitating to stab a couple of them when there was a good opportunity. He muttered a few Orion curse words but was able to fend them off. For the moment at least. Tag Judith Eastman Rio Sosa Fells Halgerdur Matthew Harmon

[Holodeck 1 - Ensign Hudson]
Hudson was waiting for the Sivaoans to commence their next activity when suddenly, a group of ghastly, fleshy, and from their demeanour probably flesh eating) creatures charged at the group from the trees. Curiously to the young ensign the Sivaoans didn't seem to know where they were coming from or what they were doing. It appeared they were not a part of the programme. Her mind instantly began pondering the situation. Is it an accident? A programming failure? Is a hacker causing this? Are the safety programmes on? She had no idea what to make of the situation.
As the holographic creatures charged, Hudson tried lunging at one with her makeshift spear, however, it dodged the attacked and before she could pull the spear back, it grabbed onto the side of the spear with its powerful jaw and yanked it sideways, knocking Hudson off balance and throwing her to the ground by the feet of Copper-Tail.

[Holodeck 1 - Fells Halgerdur] He wasn't the first one to whack the strange creatures with his stick but he was certainly amongst the ones, who had good aim and flung a few across the bushes.
In good old battle fashion he swung the spear with a llot of confidence. Soon he was working up a sweat in the humid climate of the holo. "What the heck are these...if not what you wanted us to hunt?" He called out at the two Sivaoans.
The girl next to him, Rio, waved her stick with a lot of skill as well but when Fells got jumped by one of the strange beasts and stumbled back, stepped on her foot and almost lost his spear. At the last moment he regained his balance and called out for her to duck because two of the animals were jumping straight at her. Not wanting to hit her Fells lashed out with his fist to box it away from her in mid air. The Orion behind him let out a few choice words, which Fells happened to unserstand and for reason had to laugh at despite the situation. Only then did he remember that this was just a holo and he might as well slow down and take it easy. "Challenge of the day, I'd say." in regards to the question what 'these were'.

Two Dawns made two trips back to the clearing dragging saplings behind her and leaving them for the older humans to remove the branches. It was on her third trip that she realized there was some sort of problem. She approached Judy, Max and Kova, her ears twisting and flicking as she tried to ascertain if there was danger about. Is there something wrong? Are you having difficulty? she asked. While the others were chopping and hauling saplings, SilverTail made his way up several more trees to cut down vines. He'd circled the clearing, staying close by, so he could see the group below from his current perch nearly sixty feet up a massive tree. He'd made a couple of trips into the clearing to leave large coils of vines once he couldn't carry anymore, and was soon descending the tree with a new batch looped around him. SilverTail had made it down to about thirty feet when he suddenly stopped and began trying to jerk away from the trunk. If he'd had fur, it would have been standing up all over him, but as it was, the Sivaoan could only calm himself and call down to the rest of the party, I think I need some assistance here! This tree seems to have...captured me, for want of a better word. My paws are stuck inside the trunk. His rear claws were still hooked into the bark, but his hands had disappeared past the wrist and seemed to be held fast. Judy was slightly flustered at drawing this attention, but effort and heat meant her cheeks were red enough as is and didn't show it. "We're fine," she answered. "Just having a bit of trouble with this measuring tape."She set the offending object down atop one of the saplings. Promptly, her attention was drawn to SilverTail's bizarre predicament. It was the measuring tape roll, which had slipped off from its perch, and crumbled on impact with the soft ground. As Kova stood there, it didn't take long before she was joined by the Sivaoan, Two Dawns, as they tried to ascertain whatever distress may have been faced by the Eastman Williams couple. Commander Eastman stated that they were fine, which did bring some relief, and that they were just having trouble with the measuring tape. Kova's eyes studied the tape briefly, but her attention was again usurped by SilverTail who said that he needed some assistance. Turning, the Andorian could see SilverTail lingering in the tree, though trapped. The Andorian's antennae straightened slightly in shock of what she was seeing. She had only managed to take a few steps towards the tree when Max summoned his wife's attention and pointed towards the measuring tape which was now a pile of crumbs on the forest floor. "The holographic matrix appears to be unstable," Kova noted. Her eyes turned back towards SilverTail. It would certainly explain how he had gotten stuck within the tree. "There should be safety protocols in place to initiate emergency shutdown in situations like this." Her eyes fell on Judy. "Who programmed this simulation?" It was probably a moot point, but there were templates that Starfleet worked from to avoid situations like this. It was entirely possible that the matrix could degrade further, leaving all of them and SilverTail in particular, susceptible to great injury. "Commander, I think you should shut the program down immediately," Kova suggested. She was confident that it wasn't necessary to elaborate on the potential dangers they were facing.

[Holodeck 1, Hunting...or Hunted]
As a group, it seemed that they were coming to the same conclusions...this was not expected, and, at CopperTail's shout, it was apparent that this was a genuine threat!
She was about to swat one of the things when someone stepped on her foot and she lost her balance, going to the ground -- not a good place to be -- so she recovered quickly, rolling up to her feet, but then the Not-Security guy yelled at her to duck, and she did just that, her training, and her experience in street-fighting kicking in so she didn't question or look, she just did, dropping out of the way in time to avoid a good blow to the head.
She was up again in an instant, more willing to have her ankles chomped on than her neck, and she was able to deliver a strong kick to one that was headed right for her ankles, sending it flying.
Using the spear, she skewered one of the things, then stumbled back, drawing her knife, wishing she had a phaser!
"Computer!" she shouted, "end program!" They could yell at her later for doing that, but especially if these things weren't holograms, getting rid of the fluff of the program would get rid of clutter, she hoped!

[Shavan Th’zhaar, Holodeck 1] The alien creatures seemed undeterred in their attack despite everyone’s effort to fight them off. It seemed like no one knew what they actually were. Even though they had to have been programmed to be there.. right? Shavan continued to fend them off with some fighting skill, and managed to skewer a few more. Though he was not exactly fighting for his life. Eventually a few jumped at him at once and one was able to get inside the reach of the spear; he felt a sting as it tried to sink its teeth into his leg. This elicited another curse under his breath. Fortunately it was too small to do any real damage and he was able to quickly kill it with the spear and resume fighting the last of them. Shavan heard one of the humans give the command to end the program, and briefly glanced over at her, since he had been starting to think the same thing. But he would not be surprised if it did nothing, since this all seemed to be a malfunction. Tag Judith Eastman Rio Sosa Matthew Harmon Fells Halgerdur

[NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Holodeck Two, Front Ear Station] Kova didn't wait long for any sort of affirmation from the others. She was not going to be the 'weakest link' among this selection of humans. She used the hatchet to chop at more of the saplings and dragged them back to the collection where Commander Eastman and her husband, Max, were chopping off the branches.

Promptly, her attention was drawn to SilverTail's bizarre predicament. "Oy vey izt mir," she muttered, trying to figure it out. Max, meanwhile, noticed something else. "Judy," he addressed his wife, and pointed out a pile of crumbs and scraps.

SilverTail looked awkwardly down at her, his tail lashing slightly. I don't think you should try to come up here. I'm not comfortable, but it's not hurting me. But Kkova may be right about turning off the program.
This does not instill a great deal of confidence in your technology, he called down to the others, his tail looping slightly at his joke.

"Computer, end program.""Task failed. Please use the arch to terminate the program," the computer answered. Judy inhaled sharply. "Computer, arch," she ordered, and the computer complied... ish. The arch appeared atop a tree trunk, about two meters above the ground, and a few branches for one to grab onto. "Oy vey," Judy muttered. In her youth, she could've climbed that herself without too much of a struggle; she still probably... maybe... could she? Max knew Judy well enough to divine that she was currently assessing whether she could do it, and that she really shouldn't. He put a firm hand around her waist, and she got the message. Reluctantly, Judy turned her eyes to Kova, who looked to be their best chance of both making it up there (which the elderly couple couldn't do) and taming the arch (which was likely beyond the Sivaoans). "I'm afraid you'll have to make the climb," she said. Sometimes, being old was no fun at all.

[Holodeck 1 - Fells] It soon turned out that slowing down and mistaking the little beasts for 'the challenge of the day' was a mistake and one bit him in the soft flesh underneath his ribs. "Ouch...what the...?" He exclaimed. Fells had always thought holos shouldn't hurt and have some sort of fail save programs but when he saw a small stain on his shirt and a second one went for his leg, he remembered the one holo, he had done a long time ago, that had also had a malfunction. As Rio screamed for the program to shut off, he grabbed the animal, that had bitten into the fabric of his pants and threw it into the bushes. Now in full defense mode, he twirled the spear, used it like a bat, but also impaled a two of the pale creatures. Since he was the closest to the bushes, that they seemed to be hiding in, his next step was to put some distance between himself and the bushes. "There are too many and they bite!" He shouted in case the others hadn't noticed. The little things didn't seem overly impressed by their spears, so maybe fire or water could scare them? If only he had his phaser.
"They look like they live underground...like they'd hate light? ....Can anyone light a fire?"
When he had to fend for himself on the uninhabited planet Fells had to deal with many threatening creatures. He had learned that the absence of skin color was usually due to their habitat in caves or underground, which made them sensitive to bright light and fire.

[NPCs - CopperTail to-Allanien & Sundancer to-Srallansre - Holodeck 1]The holodeck did not end the program. There was a brief, very brief, flicker, but it stabilized again. The Sivaoans had to continue to fight. The fire suggestion, however, was certainly intriguing. "I have some flint that we can use," Sundancer offered, pointing with his tail towards where the knives had been placed as he fought. "Would that be safe?" CopperTail asked, always the more cautious one. "Would the Holodeck shut off? Could the fire hurt us?"Unbeknownst to the Sivaoans, the Holodeck was malfunctioning, but the station's fire-suppression systems were a separate organ, and still functioning.

Two Dawns approached the base of the tree in which SilverTail was trapped, pressing first a single claw, then her entire palm against the trunk as she turned her face up to check on her compatriot. This does not instill a great deal of confidence in your technology, he called down to the others, his tail looping slightly at his joke. Judy kept herself from rolling her eyes at the joke. "Computer, end program.""Task failed. Please use the arch to terminate the program," the computer answered. Judy inhaled sharply. "Computer, arch," she ordered, and the computer complied... ish. [NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Holodeck Two, Front Ear Station] It didn't take long for the logical course of action to win out, which was to deactivate the program. However, no sooner than Commander Eastman gave the order for the program to shut down, the computer gave them the proverbial middle finger (that Terrans were so fond of.) It instructed them to use the arch. It seemed simple enough, until it appeared in the trunk of one of the trees a couple of meters off the ground. Commander Eastman seemed to evaluate the situation and designated Kova as the most likely candidate to complete the task. She looked around at the others. Neither of the Sivaoans were familiar with their systems, which ruled out Two Dawns. It was not a sound course of action for either Commander Eastman or her husband, Max, to attempt the climb, especially if they fell and injured themselves. Sighing, the Andorian moved towards the base of the tree. Her eyes studied the tree's trunk for a few moments. It hadbeen years since she'd had to scale a tree. "I may be a little out of practice, she muttered lowly. The slight saving grace was the tree had a slight tilt, which Kova was hoping to use to her advantage. Climbing from the opposite side of the tree, she managed to make it up the first meter or so with relative ease. The next meter was a little more trying, and she could feel it in her arms. Her legs straddled the trunk as tightly as it could as she extended her hand to reach for the panel. Her fingertips managed to brush against the panel. Frustration set it as she forced herself up further, maybe half a meter. Again, she extended her arm, but from this vantage point, had no way of even seeing the panel. Kova closed her eyes, cursing the situation. Whomever had written this program was due an earful. Upon opening her eyes, she did her best to cling as tightly as she could to the tree. And as carefully as she could, she pivoted so that she was nearly hanging upside down on the trunk. The panel was certainly in view, but the pull of gravity was more taxing on her arm. Her legs straddled the trunk tightly as she reached for the panel. There it was, as plain as day the command to end the program. The Andorian reached as far as she could, with gravity pulling her in the opposite direction. She could already feel grip loosening. Her hand was on the panel, sliding centimeter by centimeter. "Just a little more...."The next moments seemed to happen so quickly, that Kova wasn't sure what happened first. She felt her hand slam against the control panel, but she had no idea if it had managed to strike the off switch. There had been a chime but Kova was too busy realizing that she had lost her grip of the tree's trunk and felt her body falling downwards. She saw the underside of the tree's canopy moving further and further away. It was only a few meters, but the landing would surely earn her a trip to the infirmary (if she was lucky.) Whomever said no good deed went unpunished was a sage. Kova's only regret was that they hadn't warned her about this specific moment as well. She closed her eyes, (more so) to mentally brace herself for the impact.
