[SilverTail to-Ennien and Two Dawns to-Vensre - Holodeck 2]
Two Dawns didn't seem inclined to speak first as several crew members and station residents joined them in this 'holodeck', so SilverTail took a step forward, releasing his fellow Sivaoan, so he could address their students.
Thank you for attending, he said in his gravelly voice. I know we met some of you yesterday, but to refresh your memories… His tail coiled at his small joke. I am SilverTail to-Ennien and this is Two Dawns to-Vensre. Two Dawns will be performing most of the demonstration, but I will assist in whatever ways needed. We understand that your memories are not very accurate and you may need to use recording devices to help you reproduce our methods. We also gift to you the designs that we will teach you to use yourselves and teach to others.
I understand that this simulation mimics the planet Kerelia. We wanted everything to be as accurate as possible to the conditions that will be present there. We'll begin by gathering some materials for the first type of structure that we will teach you. It's the simplest, but most effective for erecting a quick, waterproof shelter that can withstand most weather.
Some of you may believe that we eschew technology entirely. I can assure you that is not the case, though our building methods may reaffirm that impression. Our methods are sustained because they work. While our people are primarily nomadic, we do have some permanent structures where we study the sciences and conduct experiments.
So our first task is to gather straight, flexible saplings about eight feet long. They need to be stripped of branches and brought here to the clearing. Bring as many as you can find in thirty minutes or so, that should give us enough to make our first structure.
There are hatchets there. He pointed to a stack of tools beside a large pile of colorful fabrics. And Two Dawns and I will assist as needed.
Initially, the Sivaoans had been shocked and then amazed as they'd been told that they would be conducting their training sessions in artificial environments on the station instead of the planet. SilverTail was embracing the experience, however, pleased with how much they could do.

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Park, Deck 6 - One Hour Later]After some more time spent getting to know the Sivaoans, it was time for Judy to go - there was still a station to run. However, before she did so, there was an announcement to make. ”We’ll be holding training sessions with our Sivaoan guests, as an opportunity for us to become more familiar with their ways,” she announced, using the comm as a microphone. ”There will be several sessions, all on skills that may be useful to settling Kerelia, starting with sessions on construction and hunting tomorrow morning. The full schedule should be sent out to you all… soon, so stay tuned for that.”With that, she, and her family, headed out. ***
The Next Day[CopperTail to-Allanien & Sundancer to-Srallansre - Holodeck 1]The holodeck was laid out as a tropical forest, a scene very similar to those seen throughout Kerelia. It was hot, damp, somewhat hilly, but shaded. The noises of nature could be heard, and in the background, animals were scurrying. The two Sivaoans stood amidst all this nature, ready to guide the hunt. CopperTail looked a little more concerned - these humans seemed a little fragile - while Sundancer was thrilled to see how his new friends took to his people's customs. PO3 Rio Sosa/Training Session, Holodeck 1Of course, as Security, Rio was interested in leaning about the Sivaoan hunting practices, not only out of sheer curiosity, but because any new perspective or outlook could be an advantage professionally, so she was excited to learn something new. Dressed in long khaki pants and a loose sweatshirt, she had her hair pulled up and out of the way, and she was ready for some fun and excitement. "Morning! she chirped as she stepped into the holodeck. "I'm looking forward to learning from you."[Holodeck 1 - Ensign Hudson]Harmon had refused to attend the next event in the holidays after being bored, and Chloe suspected embarrassed, at the prior party. Technically he'd called in 'sick' but she knew he was faking. So she was on her own this time but was excited to see what they had in store. She was dressed in fatigues matching the jungle terrain. "Morning everyone!" she said eagerly as she entered the holodeck. [Shavan Th’zhaar, Holodeck 1] While both of the training sessions sounded useful for survival on Kerelia, Shavan thought that hunting sounded more interesting and aligned with his skills. So the morning after the reception he made his way to Holodeck 1. He was dressed in his usual civilian clothes of a black tank top and pants. Upon entering the holodeck he walked over to the small group that was starting to gather. “Hello.” he greeted those already there and the Sivaoan hosts. “This should be interesting.” [CopperTail to-Allanien & Sundancer to-Srallansre - Holodeck 1]The group seemed very chipper to the Sivaoans, which Sundancer appreciated (indeed, his tail was distinctly corkscrewed), while CopperTail found it a little more unnerving. The transition from a cool, temperature controlled environment into a hot one was not unlike a slap in the face. The suddenness of the transition was just unmistakably unpleasant. "Yikes, it's hot," Judy kvetched to Max. "It's like Thomas' Bar Mitzvah," he replied, referring to the ceremony they'd held in the Holy Land, in rather balmy summer weather. "Sweat-circle city.""Well, that's a self-inflicted wound," she ribbed. Sure enough, Max had chosen to wear a light gray t-shirt (very much prone to sweat-circles) with red lettering reading "Harvard Dad", while Judy wore a solid black tank top, both of them with blue jeans. Both of them were rather pale, but Judy more so than Max, the suntan of her late-autumn medical leave in Hawaii completely gone. What's more, her medical bracelet, denoting her as having an artificial heart, was far more prominent with no sleeve to graze it. Unlike yesterday, neither wore their specs at the moment, though their reading glasses were within reach. "Good morning," the First Officer greeted those assembled, glancing down at her wristwatch. "Looks like we're going to melt just a little bit."The last quip was said with a particular, but brief, glance towards their Andorian security consultant. [...] Upon entering the holodeck he spied Judy and Max and gave them a wave as he approached. "Hi."And he also saw, to his surprise, the Andorian hacker. He tilted his head with a nod and greeted her as well. "Hey Kova. How are you?"[...] Thank you for attending, he said in his gravelly voice. I know we met some of you yesterday, but to refresh your memories… His tail coiled at his small joke. I am SilverTail to-Ennien and this is Two Dawns to-Vensre. Initially, the Sivaoans had been shocked and then amazed as they'd been told that they would be conducting their training sessions in artificial environments on the station instead of the planet. SilverTail was embracing the experience, however, pleased with how much they could do. [NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Holodeck 2, Front Ear Station] It didn't take long for a few others to arrive. The first to arrive with whom Kova had some familiarity was the station's executive officer, Commander Eastman. She hadn't met the man personally, but the accompanying her was her husband. "Good morning," she said in response to Eastman's greeting. She honestly never understood why they chose to wish people a good morning. There was still a significant portion of the day to consider. Who wanted their day to start well and then end badly? Kova also caught wind of Eastman's comment about them all about to melt a little bit. Kova's eyes narrowed only slightly, suspecting that it was designed to be a quip at her expense, particularly since her homeworld was an ice planet. "I assume you speak for yourself," Kova replied. "Andorian physiology allows us to endure a wide range of temperatures. I personally wouldn't worry about melting until around 80 degrees... centigrade." There was a hint of arrogance at the end of her comment. Sven arrived shortly after that offering his greetings. Kova had to admit she was perplexed, almost certain that he would have preferred the hunting scenario to the construction one. "I'm well," she replied. "Why are you here? Why aren't you off... shooting things?" She had to wonder if he had decided to come here to keep an eye on her. It was then that SilverTail spoke to those that had gathered, outlining what they were supposed to be doing. He made an effort to dismiss the myth that they were devoid of technology. Kova had suspected as much all along. Besides, the Federation would have had nothing to do with them if they hadn't met the requirements for First Contact. She continued to listen, but slowly found herself becoming even more disappointed as it seemed their first exercise would be one completely devoid of technology and full of manual labor. The temptation to excuse herself was even greater at this point, though that would possibly mean granting those that believed this to be a struggle for her a measure of satisfaction. It wasn't something was inclined to surrender so easily. The first task was to erect a shelter. Kova moved forward and took a hatchet into her hands. She inspected the tool, and began to step away allowing others to collect their own. "What quantity is required? she asked, desiring a few more parameters for this project.

The Next Day[ Two Dawns to-Vensre and SilverTail to-Ennien - Holodeck 2] In a similar forest in Holodeck 2, Two Dawns and SilverTail stood in a large clearing, ready for their students. Two Dawns was still feeling a little rough after the previous day. When the Sivaoans had returned to their quarters, she'd shut herself in one of the solitary bedrooms instead of relaxing in the main living space where the chief engineer had done her best to create a space that mimicked their homeworld, with plants everywhere, vines running across the ceiling, dimming the bright, unnatural light, and a massive climbing structure with multiple levels and hammocks. SilverTail stood bare, the environment much warmer than the rest of the station had been. His bare tail wrapped companionably around Two Dawns' waist, offering silent support. She hadn't rejoined the others until it was time to head for these 'holodecks' to conduct their training sessions, and she hadn't seemed to be in a mood to talk about what was wrong. [NPC - Kova Sh'qaleq - Holodeck 2, Front Ear Station] The smart thing to do would have been to avoid this gathering all together. It would certainly be easier to elude the likes of the security officers that she consulted with. More than likely, they would decide to go hunting. The only other option scheduled for the day was construction. Kova was confident that attending that one would offer the least risk of interaction with them, and thus provide her the opportunity to excuse herself after making an appearance. However, there was the prospect of seeing exactly what sort of technology the Sivaoans would unveil during this exercise. There was no way that anyone would think that a completely 'native' approach would suffice on Kerelia. She hadn't been privy to all the reports of the planets, but some of those Belters had loose lips when applying alcohol. That was if you could understand what the hell they were saying. The fact that even the universal translator was unable to decipher exactly what they were saying spoke a great deal of the language's level of sophistication... or lack thereof. As she entered the holodeck, she instantly felt the heat and humidity of the tropical setting weigh upon her. Kova wasted no time in peeling off her jacket, revealing a dark tank top. It wasn't that bad. She honestly would have preferred a few degrees above freezing, but had gotten used to the pampering most species seemed to prefer when it came to climate controls. Besides, this simulation should mimic the environment that they were expected to be in. She followed the path to where she found the pair of Sivaoans waiting. SilverTail, she was familiar with, but not the other with fur. "Hello," she said greeting the pair, but also to alert them to her presence in case they hadn't noticed. Her eyes surveyed the area. She naturally assumed they would introduce the rest of the equipment after the others arrived so that they could begin.

| Construction Workshop, Holodeck 2 || lt. Sven Aune |_____ Interactions at a glance: Sven Aune -> KovaSven Aune -> Judy and Max_____ The reception was a complete mess after Sven had gotten pretty darn sick off that cigar. But the Sioasian doctor had whipped up some sort of herbal remedy right there on the spot and he felt much better. But he had to take a trip to sick bay just to make sure. A few hours there and a cleansed palette later he was released. He met Xander in the station gym and they worked out together, and Sven invited him to the workshop, but Xander had expressed that he had enough fun with station personnel and their families and would rather just kick back and watch the game. So Sven gave him a kiss on the cheek and made his way to the stifling hot environment of the holodeck jungle. He was eternally thankful that he didn't have to wear his uniform. He hated that hot tight itchy thing. So he wore what he normally wore while off duty. A stringer tank-top, blue jeans and a pair of dusty worn unlaced leather boots. He had to wage a bit of an internal war deciding which one he wanted to attend. Hunting, or building. Both suited him well as a combat engineer. But if he was honest with himself, he missed the building aspect of his job since the end of the Dominion war. Upon entering the holodeck he spied Judy and Max and gave them a wave as he approached. Tag: Judith Eastman (Judy & Max), Sven Aune , Ozu Saya (SilverTail & Two Dawns) [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Max Williams - Holodeck 2]Judy's quip, it seems, was met with a certain superior attitude. Most of the Federation's leading species, including Andorians and Humans, did so love to signal their superiority, in their different ways. "Of course, Ms. sh'qaleq," she acknowledged, letting the whole thing slide, and then turned her attention respectfully to the dignitaries presenting. This was a trial run, and as much as Judy doubted that they would adopt the Sivaoan approach on its entirety, she believed there could be much merit to their methods. The construction aspect would be particularly valuable, considering the Tritters had appeared to react to energy signatures, which would certainly be a deterrent against using transporters, or even cranes, for construction. "This'll be like gardening back home," she whispered to Max, sounding enthusiastic. "Just without the dogs," he whispered back. Then, an idea hit Judy. "You go ahead without me. I need to ask them something," she said. He accepted this with a little kiss on her cheek. Judy then approached the Sivaoans. "As you know, our memory isn't as good as yours, so would it be all right if I make some drawings of the structure?" she asked. "I am an engineer by training."As a veteran engineer who'd done a lot of work repairing and retrofitting various structures and systems (as opposed to building anew), Judy had developed a long-standing hatred for sloppy, inadequate, and/or inaccurate as-built drawings. She liked to be thorough and orderly, even with slightly shaky hands. Max, meanwhile, took two hatchets, gripping both with both his hands. He approached Sven. "This is for you," he told the larger, younger man, offering the man a choice of the tools.

[Fells - apartment to holodeck 1] It was hard to leave Lea, Aven and Ari because he had gotten so used to being with them 24/7 and didn't want to leave Lea hanging. She had no problem with hin goi g so Fells agreed. "Alright. Thank you. I should probably hurry."
It was time to go exploring alone. Since his first day Fells hadn't spent one day without Lea and didn't really know his way around.
As he made hisway to the holodeck he got lost twice and had to ask for directions.
Fells ended up in holodeck one, where a jungle setting and humid hot air greeted him. His brown pants fit right in but the white t-shirt stood out. "I'm sorry I'm late. Can I still participate?" He asked the Sivaoans, who were talking about spears. Funny...why would they need speers to build their homes?

[Training Session, Holodeck 1] Caroline entered the holodeck, just slightly behind the blond giant she’d been inadvertently following on her way to the training. Lightweight flannel shirt hung open over a grey tank top, and her jeans were tucked into the tops of her sturdy brown hiking boots. Even if she wasn’t quite skilled, she at least looked the part of someone who knew what they were doing. Except for the very large to-go cup of coffee she had clenched in one hand. That was only part of the reason she was late. The other part of the reason? She wasn’t particularly thrilled about participating in either activity. Her feet had literally been dragging as she debated her choices while she walked from the cafe. It wasn’t that she couldn’t be a team player, she just wasn’t into a whole lot of physical labor. Watching other people do the hard work was a lot more her speed. Caroline raised her coffee apologetically, and perhaps in explanation, as she approached the others. ”My apologies also. Got a little held up. Is there still room for one more?” The counselor gave an embarrassed smile. ”Figured hunting might be something I could try, even though truth told, I’ve never stalked prey further than the replicator. Building sounded more heavy lifting, and well… I’ve got skinny arms and delicate fingers. Are we starting with the knives?” Her smile became a sheepish, faintly crimson grin, as she pointed to the knives in the… basket? Maybe an arts and crafts class would have been a better pick for her. At least she wasn't the only one who was thinking that this was a good opportunity to learn something potentially valuable. As the lesson started, she listened quietly, not wanting to challenge anything, but wondering how one could 'humanely' kill anything, since it could be argued that killing by definition wasn't humane! And honestly, a well-aimed phaser-blast to the head, or even a vital organ like the heart, was pretty instantaneous, and no more painless than a mis-placed pointy-thing. Still, her opinion, and it had nothing to do with the task at hand! She started scrounging for something to use as a handle, finding a suitable stick that was about four feet long that she held up. "Will this do?" she asked, not sure, since length hadn't been specified, although she figured that that would vary by user and use.

[Fells - apartment to holodeck 1] It was hard to leave Lea, Aven and Ari because he had gotten so used to being with them 24/7 and didn't want to leave Lea hanging. She had no problem with hin goi g so Fells agreed. "Alright. Thank you. I should probably hurry." It was time to go exploring alone. [ Leanna - Private Quarters] The new second time Mother, knew it wouldn't be easy for Fells to leave them, but when her husband to be agreed to the idea, Lea was glad he was taking the opportunity to meet others, especially since he hadn't been on the station for long. If this was to be their new home, then she wanted Fells to feel that way and not just when he was with her and the children. " Okay, have a good time and I'll see you when you get back" she replied, before he left. When Ari returned with the cookie for her Dad and queried where he had gone, Lea did her best to explain it to her and that they would make more cookies for when Daddy Fells came home. Ari was happy with that and her Mother allowed her to eat the one in her hand, it was easier that way sometimes, as Ari then sat next to her brother, which gave Lea the opportunity to take off the still wet shirt and change into a dry one, easily located from the clean laundry basket, that she had yet to take into the bedroom. Not that it bothered the Betazoid as she returned her focus to their children, especially as Ari then asked for some music and Lea instructed the computer to play one of the family's favourites. She then picked up Aven and cradled him, as they danced around and sang.

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Max Williams - Holodeck 2]The transition from a cool, temperature controlled environment into a hot one was not unlike a slap in the face.

It's the simplest, but most effective for erecting a quick, waterproof shelter that can withstand most weather.
Some of you may believe that we eschew technology entirely. I can assure you that is not the case, though our building methods may reaffirm that impression. Two Dawns shook herself suddenly, her fur fluffing out before settling back down, and the Sivaoan's shoulders seemed somehow more relaxed. Come this way, she indicated. We'll just gather enough for one structure since we have a small group. We'll bring the saplings back to the clearing and strip them here so that we can use the branches as needed. We can also gather some of the vines to use for lashings..SilverTail turned back to Judy to respond to the woman's question, Yes, please feel free to make a record in any way you see fit. "Your humor also needs work," she said flatly. She could recall when he first engaged her and offered her a job. At that point she had advised him to work on his social skills. Apparently, he still needed some work in that area by her estimation. Kova's attention was drawn to the Sivaoan with whom she was not familir. The one that called herself Two Dawns. She was the one that answered Kova's question, as it turned out she was the architect. Her glance to SilverTail seemed to be a prompt to affirm her directives. "Thank you," The Andorian replied with a slight nod. She began to fall into step with the others, still not pleased with the concept of manual labor. She honestly wondered if Starfleet would adopt these practices as they tried to settle Kerelia. If it was worth this much trouble, perhaps the Federation should reconsider. SilverTail mentioned that they were free to record these proceedings as needed, due to their memories were not as good as the Sivaoans. Kova had to agree, a recording device would have been a great deal more efficient than the drawing. Of course, Kova realized that there could potentially be another reason. "I believe this is a practice of the commander's original trade as an Engineer," Kova volunteered. "For those without her skill, we are able to use the holodeck to recreate the events leading up to our final product. Unless asked to do so, Kova had no intention of reliving this experience and as of now had no desire to visit Kerelia.

Well, there was no shortage of branches around. Although it took a minute to find one that looked suitable for making a spear. When he found one Shavan picked it up and walked back over to the group, where a couple more people were just arriving. “What next?” he asked the Sivaoans.

"Hi."And he also saw, to his surprise, the Andorian hacker. He tilted his head with a nod and greeted her as well. "Hey Kova. "We used to garden back home, and this is the closest to that that we can get."They did miss the luxuries of Earth sometimes, although it was also familiar in some ways. After the war, Max and the kids had lived with Judy on the USS Whirlaway for 2 years, and the two of them had gotten together and lived the first 4 years of their marriage in space, at Utopia Planitia. And Max had a freighter background, which he continued to blame for his pollen allergies. All told, the nostalgia for Earth wasn't inherent. Elsewhere, Judy smiled, as she realized just how old she was. "Our practice stems from the fact that we don't have the Sivaoan gift for memory, and we do tend to stumble with our words - engineers in particular," she explained, playing on her profession's stereotyped poor communication. "We, engineers, like to produce drawings that our future selves, or our colleagues, can carry and read from a PADD or other data slate, or in some cases a physical sheet of paper. Now that holoprojectors are becoming much more portable, I think the next generation of engineers will be able to use holographic technology in the field, but for now, this is what we have."Judy neglected to explain that 2D photography, if taken with imperfect angles, could create misleading results. It simply slipped her mind. For the moment, there was no sketching to do, so her PADD and stylus stayed in her bag. She instead approached her husband, and Sven. "Hello there," she greeted them both. "How are you? Can I interest either of you in a little granola bar?"The fact that she had food on her at all times, and that she offered it as a matter of course, was so quintessentially Judy. She was wired this way.

Training Holodeck 1As others arrived, Rio smiled and greeted them, glad that there were others there, and she recognized at least one from the Security files.

[Holodeck 1 Hunting workshop- Fells] Fells greeted everyone present with a nod and a smile. There were two very attractive girls and a guy working on a spear.
Spear making....hunting. How did he end up here and why? Was this fate? It surely felt like a throw back. The vegetation and humidity along with primitive hunting tools seemed like Fells had just time travelled back two years to a planet, where he spent over a year alone. Fending for himself. Trying to survive. It wasn't a pleasant memory. Instantly he wanted to turn around and leave but Fells wasn't a guy who backed out that easily.
So he went to the nearest bush and looked for a branch, that was as straight as possible and a good diameter so it wouldn't break on impact. He found two, so he offered the girls one as well. "There's a second good branch. Would you like it?" He tugged hard on his, tore and kicked at it to break it off because of a lack of a saw.
Once it sprung free he broke off the second branch. With both in tow he went back to the basket and picked out a knife, tested the sharpness of the blade with his thumb and the offered the second branch to whoever wanted it before he started carving the end into a spear.
