She tugged at the restraints once more, but met no further success. Once they had made it past the doors, they were gone. "Dammit!" she cursed as she tugged at her restraints once more. Her eyes were already scanning the vicinity for something that could possibly help her get free. And then, she heard it... her name. Her eyes widened as she recognized the voice. That beautiful spotted dummy! "Kaya? Kaya, is that you?" she called out in hushed manner. She both loved and hated her friend for not doing what she should have done and found somewhere safe to hole up until this was over. She definitely owed Kaya a lunch and all the tea. She was just glad that her friend was okay. Her eyes scanned the doorway for a sign of friend. Perhaps Kaya could get her free, or at least notify someone else that the prisoners had escaped and where they were heading. [ Kaya Som | Brig, Deck 9 ]Kaya followed the sound of S'Riia's voice and found her handcuffed to the bench around the corner. " Vek'tema!" [fn]Strong expletive[/fn] Kaya hurried over and knelt down. S'Riia didn't look hurt, but the phaser and comm badge were both gone. [...]=/\= "All stations, all departments, security alert. Secure all consoles not immediately required and physically disable doors to restricted areas from the inside if possible. Bridge out."=/\=[...] "I saw them outside; they were headed aft," she said putting her hands on the cuffs and started fiddling with them. "Comms are down, I smelled burning, we're drifting, everything's banjaxed, and now this. How do I get these off!" As Kaya (crewman, engineer, music aficionado, lover-of-noodles, not-trained-for-this) spoke, her voice became more and more agitated until her voice raised above 'calm and cool'. And then it occurred to her - the ship-wide announcement, the comm was working! She slapped at her comm badge. =/\="Som to bridge! The Arkarians are out. [Jeffries Tubes > Deck 7 > Sickbay] Sweat dripping from the back of his neck and hands clammy, Elijah continued to descend the Jeffries Tubes. His right hand, having been cut by the broken glass of his PADD, made him grimace everytime he gripped another bar. His biceps were sore and he rather wished he’d missed the gym yesterday as getting to Sickbay via the route he was undertaking was a workout in itself. He grunted as his wounded hand slipped and he caught himself on the bar beneath; his chest slammed to the ladder, knocking his combadge from his chest. He turned to look down, sweat dripping from his forehead, unable to do more than watch the device fall out of sight. Elijah faced forward again and held on for a moment, taking a deep breath to steady his pulse, and then continued. He couldn’t estimate how long he had been stepping down the ladder, but he was close to Sickbay by now, he was certain.
He almost cheered in relief when he reached Deck 7 but didn’t stop to celebrate once he was out of confinement and on solid ground, all too aware that there would be plenty in need of medical treatment. He only hoped Chief Baker or anyone else didn’t need him in the meantime now that he was without communication.
He entered Sickbay, looking rather worse for wear, and looked around for a superior to assign him a task.

With the speed and determination of three fugitives fighting for their freedom, maybe thier lives, Benor, Malko, and Cheron made their way across Deck 9 to the access shafts. They'd tried a turbolift and found it inoperable, so it would be a climb. First Cheron and her encyclopedic knowledge of ship schematics, then Malko clinging possessively to the phaser, then Benor at the rear. Benor spoke, explaining the plan. "It won't be long before they find out we're gone. But by the time that happens, we'll have tekn the Computer Core. We'll ride out the storm from there.""We're going to need more than this shitty phaser," Malko replied. "We've done worse with less, haven't we Benny?" Cheron said with less conviction than her words might carry. "They're mercenaries making a delivery. But there's no greater fighter who has their freedom to lose," Benor said. "For the moment, we have the advantage."As they arrived on Deck 8, the announcement rang out. [...]=/\= "All stations, all departments, security alert. Secure all consoles not immediately required and physically disable doors to restricted areas from the inside if possible. Bridge out."=/\=[...] Cheron just laughed. "Oh, they're trying""Don't get cocky," growled Benor as Cheron led the way out of the access hatch. [ Computer Core | Deck 8 ]Again, the Arkarians moved as one, skirting down corridors, checking around corners. So far they'd encountered no one, but they knew what they had to do once they got to the computer core. Benor and Malko would control the crew, Cheron would claim the place as their own. With the help of their lone phaser, they pried open the doors of the computer core and emerged on the top level. The chamber was actively in shambles, debris everywhere. Benor picked up a piece of railing and Cheron disappeared at a run. Immediately, Malko fired three shots on stun at the backs of the first three people he saw, providing cover from above. [fn]I imagine there's an NPC or two? If not, I'll edit out.[/fn] Benor descended the stairs and moved like tank. She saw two Starfleet [fn]Baker and Nelson[/fn] on the ground by some debris; she didn't hesitate. She stormed over, grabbed the one in medic blue (Baker), and hit her in the face.

We're in the brig and Ensign S'Riia's cuffed to a bench!"=/\= Joshua Niles [NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Brig, Deck 9, USS Mac] S'Riia watched as Kaya stepped into the room. She watched as the engineer cursed as she inspected the cuffs. She reported that she had seen the prisoners and that they were heading towards the aft of the ship. She watched as the engineer fiddled with them for a while, but was clearly growing frustrated. Though, S'Riia took notice of everything she said. Comms were down, but S'Riia was without her commbadge. That would make calling the calvary difficult. She mentioned something was burning, which meant that damage had been extensive to this portion of the ship. Of course, after that, it was easy to see that Kaya was frustrated and possibly feeling overwhelmed as she finally asked about how to remove the restraints. "The locks are magnetic," S'Riia said. "There's a key that demagnetizes the cuffs, but they may have taken it with them. I don't know." It ultimately depended upon how sadistic this Akarians were. Would they want to dangle freedom in her face, or ensure she wouldn't be a problem? Well, perhaps the fact that she was alive may have hinted towards which. "Check near the main console."The sound of Ensign Niles seemed to be a good sign. Perhaps comms were active. S'Riia looked towards Kaya who quickly reported that prisoners had escaped. She added that S'Riia was handcuffed to the bench as well. It stung to hear it said aloud. The security officer brushed the fact aside. "I think they were headed for the main computer core."

[Deck 8 - Computer Core] Once the pair of them had been able to lift the piece of panel to allow Darby to free himself, Thea quickly realised how grateful she was that she had help, knowing it would of taken her a lot longer to lift it. Not that she was weak or anything but simply knew her own body strength and at least now, she could concentrate properly on Nelson's broken leg. Although it seemed that even having his leg crushed, hadn't dampened Darby's demeanour or lack of humility as he explained how he was still here, unlike some who would of passed out. As annoying as Darby could be, Thea wasn't one to say so unless it got to a point where she had too and besides he was still her patient and given everything that was going on, the sooner she healed him, the sooner they could get out of here. " We definitely need you awake if we're to get out of here" Thea replied as she reached for the osteogenic stimulator, pausing for a moment as the call came through from Ensign Niles. Recognising the Ensign's voice immediately, before the sound of phaser fire from above, alerted her to possible trouble. She was about to whisper to Darby and alert the Bridge, but never got the chance too, as one of the Arkarian's descended the ladder and grabbed her, before hitting her in the face. The suddenness and force of it all left Thea not only stunned and dizzy for a few minutes, but also caused her to drop what she was holding.

[Ens Joshua Niles - Battle Bridge, USS Mac ]As soon as the Master Chief mentioned that other critical areas might be at risk, Niles' hands started moving, trying to inventory any deficiencies in the ship's security capabilities. This was hardly his strongest suit, but it was at least a little better than the one that dealt with actually being out there with a phaser in hand and dealing with unpleasant characters; he preferred phasers that delivered thousands of terajoules at a full light-second, or torpedoes that could ruin someone's day from three million kilometers from rest. But, for now, it meant he would be exercising his less-than-stellar set of skills all right. As the order to do just that came from Commander Eastman, not only did he start erecting every forcefield he could, and locking every door and hatch he could access, he actually got on the ship's internal broadcast. It would be much faster, and much more efficient, than contacting everyone individually. And, if the prisoners knew the ship was alerted to them, they might give themselves up a bit faster... =/\= "All stations, all departments, security alert. Secure all consoles not immediately required and physically disable doors to restricted areas from the inside if possible. Bridge out."=/\= Overall, it was a rather heavy-handed response, but without being able to positively locate the escaped prisoners, if only by finding humanoid life signs not accompanied by a commbadge, locking things down could slow them, and force them to make a commotion somewhere that might trip a damage control circuit or a security lockout... "Ma'am, I've erected every forcefield, closed every blast door and secured every hatch that's still responding across the entire ship. I can't find them the easy way, but at least they'll give us a trail of breadcrumbs to find them when they start forcing doors. I think I've done everything I can from up here, so the rest will be up to the crew." That was hardly an ideal situation, but that was as best as he could manage for now... [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Battle Bridge, Deck 18]Judy listened to her crew once again. She was feeling a little chilly - her own fault for wearing a skirt - but if anything the cold helped make her more alert. "Ensign, I don't think we can afford to run every single force field right now," she told Ensign Niles. "We have to be more strategic. Focus on the key areas."Then came the matter of transporters. "We're not going to use a person as our first test subject," she decided, despite the suggestions. "I don't want to get either of you embedded in a wall."She looked over to Mabel. "Toss me your commbadge," she ordered. Mabel nodded. "Catch," she called out, throwing the little object in the general direction of the Captain's chair, where Judy, with honed reflexes, caught it. "Let's start by beaming this chocolate bar to engineering," Judy pitched her idea to the group, as she took a bar of very dark chocolate out of her handbag. She neatly broke off a cube for herself, and pinned the commbadge onto the packaging. "If this works, we can beam both of you out," she directed, after she finished her chocolate. [Lt. (j.g.) Isaiah Quinn - Battle Bridge, Deck 18, USS Mac] Isaiah turned towards the chief. It seemed they had the same idea where the transporters were concerned, but differed on how to go about testing it. It almost felt as if they were on the verge of bickering who get to dive on the landmine first. Commander Eastman, however, had a more practical means of testing their ability to transport within the ship. She obtained Mabel's commbadge and recommended using it to transport a piece of chocolate. There was no reason to argue with that. Plus, Engineering should be spacious enough that one wouldn't have to worry about large debris being scattered as an obstruction to a successful transport. "Aye, Commander," was Isaiah's reply. He then looked towards Chief Ozu. "Would you care to do the honors, Chief?" he asked. She was certainly among the most qualified present to execute the transport manually. Plus, he wasn't entirely sure if she wanted to attempt it from her station or physically run the trial down in Transporter Room 3. Meanwhile, it seemed that Niles had taken some initiatives to secure the most critical areas of the ship. The only question was how much of a head start did the prisoners have. "Have there been any direct reports from the brig?" He began to wonder if that was possibly among their first casualties, as he directed the question to the tactical officer. [ MCPO Ozu Saya - Battle Bridge] Saya raised a slightly offended brow at Judy's implication that her calculations might be so far off as to transport someone inside a bulkhead, but conceded that it might, indeed, be wiser to make the first attempt on something that was not a person. She dipped her head in acknowledgement of Quinn's deference to her and turned to her station, pulling up schematics of the ship and beginning calculations to get a precise location. Standby, she said. While the computer ran her calculations, Saya checked maintenance reports again. No reports of damage specifically from the brig, but there are power fluctuations on Deck 7. After a moment, she had a precise location in engineering - a space open enough to easily beam a person. Ready, Saya reported. =/\= Ozu to engineering. Clear the open area of main engineering. We're attempting a beam in test. Reply to confirm the arrival of the, uh, chocolate bar with a combadge. =/\= In engineering, a perfect chocolate bar, with one section removed, materialized in the middle of the floor.

Not that she was that valuable (he just needed her around to keep Kece out of the CMO's chair until he could take it), but because it was brutal and mean-spirited. Most people valued healers. While the others on the Battle Bridge were discussing transporter matters, Niles was following the directions he had been given, taking down forcefields furthers away from the Brig and tightening the noose around the area where forcefields were inoperable. And, he also kept an eye on the security lockouts he had set in place... Many doors were opened with proper codes and authorizations... but then one hatch was forced. Then another. Then another. And, he could see where they were heading. "Commander!" The young Ensign's voice sounded like a whipcrack. "I'm seeing one hatch forced! Looks like they've made it to Deck 8. How the hell did they do that?!"The worst part, was that there was very little he could do, save watch and... =/\= "Security, this is the Bridge. Converge on Deck 8. Expect three belligerents, probably armed."=/\= There was entirely too little he could do, and that was killing him... and just as he slammed his prosthetic hand on the edge of his console, drawing a sound of metal on metal as his exposed metal metacarpals connected, the communications chirped again, coming from the Brig, indicating that status of Petty officer S'Riia and Crewman Som. Well, at least that answered that...

[USS MAC-battle bridge] With everything that was going on he was prepared to assist in any way possible. For now he secured all of the flight systems so he wouldn’t totally be in trouble when the time came. He helped the others secure things down at the battle bridge. He was high alert as he prepared for what might possibly happen. He was willing to possibly be beamed out when it was time if necessary. He was going to wait and see what would happen with the chocolate bar. He hoped that it would work out well so maybe they could eventually try it with people. Soft tag: Judith Eastman

[Deck 7 - SickBay] Elijah quickly wrapped some gauze around his cut hand and pulled a glove on over the top before he began to attend to a patient. His forehead was still coated in sweat from his descent to Sickbay despite how he’d tried to wipe it away with his sleeve. Not hygienic but he didn’t have time to change. Patient. Male. A head injury; open gash on the forehead. He cleaned the wound before inspecting it closely, it looked to need stitches but not many. The young man in his care wasn’t wearing a uniform but he had been rambling about getting back to work when brought in. Elijah had laid him down and administered pain relief before assessing his condition with a tricorder. Concussed too, but he would be alright.

It seemed like the most random thing to be on about, but she wasn't here to question orders. Especially when it materialized. =A= "Engineering to Bridge, this is Bawn. The chocolate bar is here," =A= she reported.
[ Ens Joshua Niles - Battle Bridge, USS Niles ]"Aye, Ma'am," simply replied the Ensign before setting down to work. [ Kaya Som | Brig, Deck 9 ]Kaya followed the sound of S'Riia's voice and found her handcuffed to the bench around the corner. " Vek'tema!" Kaya hurried over and knelt down. S'Riia didn't look hurt, but the phaser and comm badge were both gone. "I saw them outside; they were headed aft," she said putting her hands on the cuffs and started fiddling with them. We're in the brig and Ensign S'Riia's cuffed to a bench!"=/\= [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Battle Bridge, USS Mac]It all happened at once, so fast. The report from the Brig, the progress on transporting, and the revelation that the prisoners were mobile. And then, the ship shook again, the shaking followed up by an alert on the Ops console. "Main power is gone on Decks 4 and 7," Mabel reported. "Sickbay is still running on backup power.""Oy vey izt mir," Judy muttered. She wished she could deal with these things, as the ancient Jewish joke went, one cow at a time, but they didn't have this luxury. She had to lead. =A= "Som, Eastman here. We're trying to locate the Arkarians. If you need a medic over there, just ask," =A= she said over the comm, hoping to project calm to the young engineer and the injured security (Judy assumed) officer. "Chief, Lieutenant, I'd say we can you out, so let's do that now," she then said, hoping to at least get some things moving the way she wanted them. "Mabel can push the button for you.""Ensign Niles," Judy then addressed her Tactical Officer. "I suppose we can use all this to our advantage. If they are on Deck 8, and the power is out on Deck 7, I'd say it's a safe bet they'll go up and not down. Let's capitalize on that."

Well, at least that answered that... With everything that was going on he was prepared to assist in any way possible. [NPC - Chief Petty Officer Dawn Bawn - Main Engineering, USS Mac]A chocolate bar? Dawn couldn't help but wonder why. Isaiah Quinn - Battle Bridge --> Deflector Control, Deck 11, USS Mac] Isaiah listened as the report came in. It seemed that the people in the Brig were fine, but the prisoners had been confirmed as on the loose. He shook his head. It was stating the obvious, but none of this was ideal. He couldn't help but wonder exactly where Thea was at the moment. He was hoping that she was tucked away safely in Sickbay treating any that had reported to her with injuries. Of course, he didn't have the luxury of actually checking. At least not right now. The ship rocked once more, as the Mac was hit by the storm once again. They modify the shields and they needed to do so quickly. Some of the projections suggested that things could get a lot worse before they got better. It was only a few moments before the call came in from Engineering that Commander Eastman's experiment had been successful. Isaiah nodded as moved to an open area of the bridge. He then looked towards Mabel. "Ready," he said to the ensign. He felt the familiar tingle of the transporter, though he was confident it was more imagined than practical. His surroundings disappeared and were soon replaced with that of deflector control. Isaiah looked around, and there didn't appear to be any significant damage at least at first glance. He moved towards one of the consoles and started to renew his attempt at the calculations, making modifications for anything that may have changed in the meantime. =/\= "Quinn to Battle Bridge. Transport successful. Getting started on the EM Scanner now." =/\= After checking the numbers, there didn't seem to be much deviation from what he'd seen before. He then turned his attention towards the EM Scanner. After picking up a tricorder, he approached it and knelt down to remove the cover panel. He conducted a few scans and started to remove a few isolinear chips and rods, replacing them in different locations. His eyes scanned the tricorder occasionally to see how the scanner was responding. "Computer, location of Lt. Commander Baker," he said, as he continued to work. He was sure that she was fine. Perhaps he just wanted to put his doubts to rest. =/\= Unable to comply. =/\=It was frustrating, but likely due to the glitches with internal sensors. He supposed he could always comm her, but if she was working, he certainly didn't want to disturb her. He decided to finish up the reconfigurations of the EM Scanner, and then, he could probably turn his attention to helping with the internal sensors. It could possibly help deal with this situation with the Arkarians if Security didn't handle the situation first.

[...] "The locks are magnetic," S'Riia said. "I think they were headed for the main computer core."[...]=A= "Som, Eastman here. We're trying to locate the Arkarians. The main console was a wreck. The Arkarians had already rifled through it. As she began searching, she answered Eastman. =/\= Aye, commander. Ensign S'Riia thinks they're headed for the computer core. =/\= This was what they were good at, Kaya reassured herself. If Starfleet was good at anything, it was speedy, disciplined coordination. Security would handle the prisoners, S'Riia was going to be fine, but the ship. It didn't matter who you were. If the ship broke apart... "Here! Thank the elders..." Kaya found a handcuff key. She hurried back to S'Riia, and as she knelt down to set to work she was surprised to see her hands shaking. It took her longer than her worry and pride appreciated, but the cuffs released and S'Riia was free. Kaya sat back crouching on her heels and sighed. "What are you going to do?" she asked blankly. S'Riia was security. Did she have to go after them? Kaya knew she ought to find Engineering. When in doubt. Isaiah Quinn Judith Eastman

[...]She was about to whisper to Darby and alert the Bridge, but never got the chance too, as one of the Arkarian's descended the ladder and grabbed her, before hitting her in the face. The suddenness and force of it all left Thea not only stunned and dizzy for a few minutes, but also caused her to drop what she was holding.[...] [...] "Please don't hurt me," he begged. "My name is Darby Leslie Flavius Nelson III. My uncle is Admiral Booker. I could be a valuable hostage, but not if you harm me."[...] [ The Arkarians | Computer Core ]Benor scoffed at Nelson. What kind of people do you think we are?" she asked as if she wasn't wielding an improvised bludgeon. "Malko!" Benor called to her brother. She picked off their combadges and tossed them across the room. "Watch them. Don't kill anyone this time."Malko gleefully complied, easily hopping a railing and training the phaser back and forth on Baker and Nelson. "Kill them? What kind of person do you think I am?" "Cheron, where are we at?" Benor demanded then of their saboteur. For the first time since their break there was a hint of worry in Cheron's sweet voice. "Not much I can do with a beached whale. It's all rather disheveled.""Then fix it!" Benor shouted. "Get a force field up before they get transporters online."

Kaya obeyed S'Riia without hesitation. The main console was a wreck. The Arkarians had already rifled through it. As she began searching, she answered Eastman. =/\= Aye, commander. S'Riia was security. Did she have to go after them? Kaya knew she ought to find Engineering. When in doubt. [NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Brig, Deck 9, USS Mac] Whether this was attempt number nineteen or twenty, S'Riia already knew the outcome would be the same. She tugged the restraints against the bench's support against the wall and was met with the same result: nothing. The half-Caitian's eyes turned back to Kaya as she reported to Eastman what S'Riia had suggested, about the Arkarians moving towards the computer core. "I'm fine," S'Riia announced after hearing Eastman's query of whether a medic was needed. Her injuries were superficial and didn't require immediate attention. With that reported, Kaya turned her attention to the central station. It was mostly smashed debris as far as S'Riia was concerned. There was a part of S'Riia that wanted to tell Crewman Som not to waste her time, but her own stubbornness cheered the woman on. Suddenly, the unbelievable occurred. S'Riia could swear the Trill was a walking good luck charm as she announced that she had found the key. As she made her way back to S'Riia, kneeling down to undo the restraints, S'Riia watched her hands. She knew that adrenaline was likely coursing through the young engineer's veins, but more likely out of fear than excitement. If she could have, she probably would have tried to steady them with her own furred hands. Sh was just about to utter a word of support when the click sounded announcing her freedom. "Oh, thank you!" S'Riia said gratefully. A smile had even found itself upon her face. She briefly inspected her wrists, taking a moment to rub each. She knew that she owed Kaya a large thank you. Of course, Kaya asked the question of what she was going to do. It was an unexpected answer, but she was certain that Kaya could already guess the answer. She didn't want to leave Kaya alone, but she wasn't keen on the idea of dragging her into danger either. "I can see that you get safely to the Jefferies tube," S'Riia said. "Watch you make it to Deck 11 or so, before I go after them." She had confessed her intention, making them known. Those three had escaped on her watch. S'Riia felt it was her responsibility to play a hand in getting them back.
