[Crewman Jovireh Velal - USS Mac - Bridge]At least he didn't immediately dismiss the thought. Though he was right, they wouldn't be able to prove it unless they could find something else on sensors. He asked if she had thoughts on suspect and motive, and she shook her head, moving on to the next grid. "Unfortunately, this is the extent of my experience with the Nyberrite Alliance. Though it's not unheard of for someone to be willing to sacrifice their own people to achieve their agenda - especially if it was someone who didn't personally know the pilots." She paused momentarily, clearing that grid and moving on to the next, before looking back up at Quinn with an amused smile. "And no, I did not have a revealing conversation with the Commodore last night," she added, referring to the last mission they had been on together. Jovireh had noticed his and Dr. Baker's surprise when she laid suspicion on Primary L'Sho while she was in Sickbay, and since her testimony was never needed before Relan threw the Primary in front of the shuttle, she knew it had probably seemed like a lucky guess. To be honest, she was rather grateful she was not so closely tied to this disaster as well. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Ready Room, USS Mac]Judy had to think for a moment. She certainly couldn't rule it out. It seemed as straightforward now, as the idea that the Owl-1 had just up and fired had seemed not so long ago. Occam's razor was a double-edged sword like that. "That is very much possible, and if that is indeed the case, then there will be hell to pay," she confirmed. "However, it doesn't account for the data we saw. Yes, as you said, integrating Tholian tech into anyone else's... anything is seemingly impossible, but things are only ever impossible until they're done," she added, returning to the data that they had. "Now I know a few engineers that I believe can work technical miracles of that magnitude, and I'm sure you do too, but Avi Moz isn't on that list. So, before I settle on one explanation or another, I'd certainly like to investigate that. I think the devil is in those details."Disturbed by a little schmutz on the bifocal line, Judy took off her glasses and gently cleaned them, with a little bottle of spray and a cloth she kept in her handbag. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac ] Isaiah shrugged at her last comment. "Well, no one said that being lucky was in the job description when we signed the dotted line," Isaiah remarked. He thought about the suggestion though, that Commodore had been targeted. If it were the case, there had to be a much more convenient means than arranging the tragedy that had occurred. That naturally begged whom or what had been the real target. Again, it was more questions and fewer answers. "I think you'll find no shortage of opinions where the Nyberrite Alliance is concerned," Isaiah shared. He felt that his own point of view of them was typically in the minority. He understood that Velal had a limited perspective, but he couldn't help but wonder where she fell in general. "I know that you said your perspective is limited, but do you mind sharing what you think about the Alliance?" It certainly wasn't a point he was going to press. And it certainly wouldn't paint his own perception of Crewman Velal in the least. She had easily proven that she could stand on her own merits.

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Ready Room, NSS Soteria ] Vasser's brow furrowed at the Judy's words. "Wait, you're serious about this Tholian tech?" she asked. Vasser had believed that Judy had simply been trying to toss out excuses to see what would stick. She certainly had no knowledge of any successes that their scientists had in that area. In fact, given how futile it had proven, she didn't think they'd put any sort of resources into it. She certainly had no knowledge of them being aboard her ship. What she could agree upon was Judy's suggestion that Avi Moz was no Montgomery Scott. "If such a thing is possible, I agree... Moz doesn't have the creative fortitude to pull such a thing off. But it appears she's quite capable of following orders," Vasser countered. She wasn't about to let Avi Moz off the hook just to appease one of Judy's scenario. In Vasser's opinion, her version of events was presently the most credible. "You have proof of this... integrated Tholian tech?" As Vasser inquired further about this assertion, she keyed a message for Gorsk and Chromar to follow up on. Primarily to see if it had even an ounce of credibility. And if it did, she wanted to know who had brought it aboard her ship and for what purpose. One of the most irritating things for a starship commander was to have someone else attempt to manage your ship without your knowledge.

"Colonel, I know it sounds preposterous, but we don't have any other explanation for the data as we see it. The blast on the Hera was of some combination of Nyberrite and Tholian weaponry, fired from the direction of the Owl-1, or an impossibly good spoof of that," she explained, deliberately choosing her words. They didn't know that the Owl-1 had fired, although that seemed probable. "Now, you certainly can shrug this off as some kind of anomalous reading. I imagine the higher-ups on both sides will be happy to put this into a neat little box, blame whoever they want to blame, and move on. However, I think we can also work together in this moment, try to find out what actually happened, and hopefully lower the temperatures again."Judy could certainly foresee a scenario in which certain higher-ups (the anti-Nyberrite faction in San Francisco was looking for an opportunity) would revel in the tension and tragedy. She could also foresee herself back on Earth, with a lot more time for her grandchildren. This, on its own, did not scare her, which empowered her now to act according to her best judgement.

[LCDR Matthew Harmon - Bridge -> Intelligence Office]
Harmon nodded at the Commander and gave a slight smile at Mabel, who was quite eager, before standing up and making his way to the turbolift. Usually he would have refused to bring along an ensign who didn't need to be involved, but he trusted Mabel and she was well regarded by Chloe. Besides, it was likely the Commander would tell her everything anyway.
Once they arrived at his office he nodded to Dak indicating for him to leave. Harmon walked behind his desk and indicated for Avi and Mabel to sit. Before he sat down he walked over to a cabinet with a few bottles and picked out a bottle of rum and poured himself a glass. "Dealing with the Alliance is thirsty work," he said. "Did you want some?" he looked at Avi, assuming Mabel would decline. He also figured with Mabel there it was best to steer clear of the blue stuff. Once that was sorted he sat down."So, I'll cut to the chase...this wasn't exactly the best time to extract you nor the cleanest way of doing so," he wasn't blaming her, just laying out the facts. "I don't know how much about what happened to the Hera you know, but our pilot, a Commodore..." he said with a degree of disdain, "Is in a critical condition. We don't know what happened, and working with Vasser to figure it out will no doubt be complicated by the revelation you were our spy. Furthermore, Commander Eastman didn't sign off on this operation, that was Captain Elis, and she is long gone," he stared at Mabel as he finished his sentence and then took a drink before continuing. "I'll fully debrief you once we return to the Station, but for now, I need to know any information you have about what happened to the Hera and if the Alliance is involved...I suspect Vasser is innocent, or at least does not approve of it if the Alliance was responsible, so if you've seen anything to suggestion tensions among the Alliance leadership or anything to indicate someone acting without Vasser's approval, that would be very helpful to the investigation."

There was certainly a story to be told where that Nyberrite officer and a broken nose was concerned. Perhaps once all of this was over, he could persuade her to share it. He listened to her appraisal of Vasser, and felt a sense of surprise and relief. Overall, it sounded as if Velal was slow to judge, allowing time and experience to inform her judgement. "You know, I served with Vasser," Isaiah shared. "She was my former CO before coming here." The science officer checked off another grid and proceeded to the next. "Your description of her is the Vasser I know. Some of our earlier encounters may have given the impression that she's someone different." Isaiah looked up from his console towards Velal. "It's... comforting to hear that that may not be the case." His eyes lowered back to his console as he proceeded with the scan of the next search grid.

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Ready Room, NSS Soteria ] Vasser took a deep breath before responding. "Commander, don't presume my request for verification is me shrugging your assertion off," the colonel stated. "You're making a very bold accusation. I simply want to review the evidence for myself, as I'm certain you would were you in my position." Vasser stared at her screen a moment before continuing. "And you're right. What happens here and now will certainly determine the climate between the Alliance and the Federation."And that easily meant that a number of people would be forced to choose sides. It would place a number of people in a very precarious situation. It was a political nightmare that people chose to ignore, but Vasser saw it all too clearly. If things escalated to a point of no return, then there would be thousands of people that would become either traitors or prisoners of war. And whether they cared to admit it or not, that would place the Federation at an almost instant disadvantage. "I will have my investigative teams look into this weaponry that you mentioned," Vasser stated. In fact, it was something she already had in the works. "But there is still the matter of Avi Moz. I would like to formally petition that she be remanded into our custody. If she is as innocent as you claim, I believe I can convince my superiors that a dishonorable discharge would suffice... to preserve calm between our two parties. However, if she isn't... and the evidence points to her, she would have to stand trial on Nyberr."

[NPC - Major Chromar & Javik - Shuttlebay, NSS Soteria ] Chromar circled the Owl-1 for the second time, his eyes glued to his tricorder. He finally lowered the device. Suffice it to say, this alloy that Vasser had mentioned simply wasn't there. Perhaps that Federation Commander was simply stalling for time. And Vasser had apparently fallen for it. Clearly, having a former Starfleet Captain in command was a detriment to her judgement. It was too hefty a price to pay if the Alliance's hope was to simply drum up higher numbers in recruitment. A sigh left his lips as he cross-referenced the original damage report with the ship's current status. He was expecting a chime of acknowledgement, but it didn't come. Instead, there was an alert. Chromar opened the message, and saw that his attention needed to be turned towards one of the turrets. Chromar moved closer, his eyes moving along the turret, and he confirmed what the device had read: no damage. Looking up, the Romulan's eyes found the Reman he'd spoken with earlier. "You there! Did you see Avi Moz touch anything on this shuttle?"Javik stared timidly at Chromar. The tone of his voice, was so familiar to what he'd heard most of his life. He swallowed before answering. "Sh-she worked maintenance. And she went to storage." he offered. That seemed to be enough for Chromar as he quickly made a beeline for the storage areas... where he'd first found Moz... alone.

[ Avi Moz | Intelligence office, Mac ]Harmon arrived along with some clean-looking juman and Avi got deeply comfortable in a cushy Starfleet chair. She lit the putrid cigar and let her head loll back in the chair as she puffed a cloud of rancid smoke in the air above her, like she was a wee blue volcano threatening to destroy a mountainside village. Avi was indeed keen on some light refreshement and human whiskey would do in a pinch. Weak tea for a Bolian but not bad-tasting. She muttered and affirmative and took the glass. Harmon painted a lovely picture. A veritable tangle. A banged up commodore, mysterious explosions, more finger-pointing than a Cardassian shame ritual. He seemed just a little flustered. Was that what she was sensing from the stoic, steely Matthew Harmon? When he finished speaking, Avi took her time with another draw from the cigar and drink of the whiskey. She ran her tongue over her teeth, then shrugged. "That's a very sad story and not," she chuckled, "at all my problem." She was back. She intended to start a vacation as soon as possible. She'd done what she was told. Her part was over. None of this had anything to do with her, and therefore, not her fault. Matthew Harmon could eat a brog. Matthew Harmon , Judith Eastman (Mabel)

Tag: Jovireh Velal [Crewman Jovireh Velal - USS Mac - Bridge]She was surprised to hear that Commander Quinn had served with Vasser. Her curiosity naturally piqued, but she felt asking for details about who had left which faction and why wasn't exactly the best way to continue the conversation. So instead she kept her gaze on the scans, moving grid by grid, pausing for a moment before making a single understanding statement. "This must be a difficult position for you to be in." Though she had no doubt where the man's loyalties were now. It was obvious in his tone of voice that he would face the facts as they came, regardless of what he hoped the outcome would be. A chime on her console caught her attention, and she swiftly checked the reading. "There!" she announced, unable to hide the flicker of excitement she felt. "Grid 009... and 010... Tri-cobalt and tetryon particles, the same pattern that caused the damage to the Hera's hull." Did this mean she'd actually been correct? That section of debris couldn't have come from their fighter if it had those materials... She moved her scan to the next grid, waiting anxiously for Quinn's assessment of the readings.

I would like to formally petition that she be remanded into our custody. If she is as innocent as you claim, I believe I can convince my superiors that a dishonorable discharge would suffice... to preserve calm between our two parties. However, if she isn't... and the evidence points to her, she would have to stand trial on Nyberr." [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Ready Room, USS Mac]At least they weren't drawing their swords anymore, but it seems they were still sparring a little. "Take your time with the data. Ms. Moz is a Federation national, and she probably has some outstanding misdemeanor charges against her on the station, but we'll just have to see what we can do."In addition to the issues involving Federation law, Judy considered her own highest duty to be defending the many peoples of the Federation - even if they were as foul-mouthed and foul-smelling as Avi Moz. "I'll try to get back to you in a half-hour. Mac out."Redirecting herself, the older woman began to type out messages to the Intel office. To: M. Harmon, M. Henriksen

Matthew Harmon , Judith Eastman (Mabel) [NPC - Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Harmon's Office, USS Mac]Mabel opted not to sit, choosing instead to put as much distance as she could between herself and the Bolian. She now understood why they had sent this woman into the Alliance - to get rid of her. She was just standing back, longing for the comfort of auditing the station's customs operation, when she got the message from her boss. Received. Mabel figured she'd leave this for Harmon, and instead just take notes. He was good at being mean to people.

[Crewman Jovireh Velal - USS Mac - Bridge]She was surprised to hear that Commander Quinn had served with Vasser. [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Ready Room, USS Mac]At least they weren't drawing their swords anymore, but it seems they were still sparring a little. "Take your time with the data. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac ] Crewman Velal's words about Isaiah being in a difficult position certainly felt spot on. No one seemed to question his loyalty, but it did feel that they may not entirely trust his judgement where Vasser was concerned. Not that he a detriment, but likely reluctant to see the woman for who she truly was. Taking a deep breath, Isaiah shrugged. "It's like... having a gut feeling that you can't prove, or explain," Isaiah said. "And because of that, you start to wonder ... what if I'm wrong."The thoughts were pushed aside as Velal announced that she'd found those same concentrations as before. "Confirmed," he said taking a look at the grids she had mentioned. "I think there may even enough of the alloy present to bring aboard for a full analysis." Isaiah looked up from his console to see that Commander Eastman had returned to the Bridge. She had likely at least heard the tail-end of their exchange. "Commander. Permission to beam a sample of the alloy aboard for analysis. A team of scientists and engineers should be able to determine it's properties, as well as whether the debris came from Owl-1 or some other bogey that was otherwise undetected."

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Ready Room, NSS Soteria ] Stalling tactics. Vasser's lips curled only slightly into a grin. It could have been a class back at the Academy, and if it were then Judith Eastman certainly would have had high marks in it. Even Vasser herself had played the game of buying time by pretending to be more busy than one actually was. More than likely, she was back on her Bridge attempting to see what her people had learned, as well as trying to figure out her next move. One thing was obvious, Eastman didn't want the situation to degrade any further. It was possibly one reason she hadn't taken Moz off the table completely. A carrot dangling, likely there to tempt Vasser to continue to engage. "Well played, Commander," she mused to herself. Vasser had just risen to her feet, preparing to check on the progress of her own crew when her computer chimed once more. She it was a subspace communication directed solely to her from Colonel Nox. Seeing that it was on a secure channel, she quickly turned her attention to it. "Colonel Nox. I wasn't expecting your call, but it is quite timely nonetheless," Vasser greeted. "I regret to inform you that our venture with the Mac has yielded yet another... incident."Vasser quickly weighed just how much detail she was prepared to go into. Still, she wanted to give Nox at least a basic rundown of what had occurred thus far. "Colonel Perry was injured during the flight exercise. At first it appeared as if our fighter fired upon theirs. However, there does appear to be evidence of sabotage... definitely evidence of espionage. the Mac pulled their agent from the Soteria shortly after the accident." A long sigh left Vasser's lips. "Starfleet is trying to walk back the infiltration, but I surmise they likely don't see us directly at fault for this. They have concerns, but I think they're a bit more placable because they've been caught with their hand in the cookie jar."Vasser hadn't made mention of the proposed Tholian-based weapon, at least not yet. She still wasn't entirely convinced that it was a complete fabrication. Though, it was probably best to allow Tallorin to absorb all of that before piling even more on.

[ Colonel Nox Tallorin | The N.S.S Ko ]As ever, Nox Tallorin was lofty and pleasant but as Vasser volunteered their current lamentable status he sat back in his chair and frowned. "So it seems your Major Chromar wasn't hallucinating after all. A Federation spy - a rare creature, not often seen in the wild." He scratched his chin, thinking for a moment. He and Vasser's occupations differed significantly and their relationship, then both being of the same rank, was more peer-to-peer. Even so, Tallorin had made a great show of advocating for his ship's captain counterpart. What that actually involved would be hard to pin down. "Shame about their Commodore..." he said with very little remorse on his tongue. "Odd that such an important man was on their little fighter. Unexpected. Inscutable. Hmm." Then he continued. "Any indication what their infiltrator may have acquired? Hopefully nothing of any value." Now there, some real concern in his voice. Isaiah Quinn (Vasser)

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Ready Room, NSS Soteria ] Vasser chose to fill in some of the blanks she could as she began to reply. "From what I can gather, it was Commodore Perry's personal preference to pilot their prototype," Vasser said. "I plan to offer the assistance of our own CMO, but I expect that Commander Eastman's reluctance of taking me up on the offer." That likely painted a clear enough picture of that situation. though, it seemed Nox was more concerned about the infiltration, which was understandable. "We've confirmed that there has been no infiltration into any of our computer systems," Vasser reported. "Their agent enlisted as a mechanic. Thus far, she had only been assigned menial tasks. Recently, she was assigned to maintenance of Owl-1. In fact, we suspect she may have been responsible for sabotage of the craft, which led to the accident with the Hera." It was then that Vasser decided to test the waters with Eastman's theory. "Of course, Starfleet is suggesting that it was caused by the Owl's weapons system, and that we may have fired a Tholian-based beam of some sort. Of course, our own diagnostics clearly show that our weapons were never active."

At the agreement to transport the alloy on board, the Crewman did so, this time erecting the safety containment fields standard for unknown substances. "Transport complete." Her gaze lifted to the Commander, and she was unable to hide the glimmer of hope in her expression as she replied to the following question. "Some of the debris from the field has the same Tholian-integrated technology as whatever caused the damage to the Hera." She explained. Thus far, this seemed to be the most promising lead toward finding out what actually happened.

[Matthew Harmon - Intelligence Office]Harmon wasn't at all in the mood to indulge Avi's recalcitrance. "I don't have time for your bullshit, Moz. It is your problem because the Nyberrite Alliance is a mercenary corporation with a state, and as such they will attempt to leverage diplomatic protocol to have you extradited back to them on whatever charges they see fit to try and nail you on. The Commander is none to pleased about having to pull you out, it has complicated what she is trying to do and so if you don't watch yourself she may very well see fit to oblige their requests at which point I won't have the means or desire to get you out of there for a second time," his tone was certainly absent of his usual stoicism. As he finished his tirade, his PADD made a notification noise as he received a message from the Commander. "I've just received a message from the Commander confirming as such. Vasser has requested your extradition, and is being uncooperative until her request is granted. So if you have nothing of use to me then so be it, Crewman Dak will escort you back to the Transporter Room and you will be given into the hands of Major Chromar." He wasn't exactly lying but he was certainly stretching the truth.
