[NPC - Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen - Science Lab]Mabel could almost imagine Captain Eastman muttering some Yiddishism, experiencing for herself that combination of drive, dread, and responsibility. Obviously, she was no stranger to fear, but she wasn't used to being in charge of things. And she didn't like the seemingly inevitable conclusion. "We don't have anywhere to put them, so we might need to... kill them," she whispered, clearly disheartened. Mabel was happy to see the doctor arrive, but less happy to see him find the shrews adorable. It reminded her of her own sentiments, which made it harder to accept the merit of pest control. "These are Caldonian shrews, and the station is infested," she explained.
Tag Shavan Th'zhaar (T'Laara), Jovireh Velal (Riyo), and K'Dex [ T’Laara - Science Lab] T’Laara glanced at Mabel as she morosely admitted they might have to kill the shrews. She didn’t like that idea either. It would be an unfortunate waste of life. “That would be a last resort.” However, it looked like if they wanted to save them, they would have to come up with some alternative ideas fast. “Unfortunately, from a natural science perspective, there aren’t many methods for dealing with invasive species that would work here and don’t involve killing them. In the closed environment of a space station, there is nowhere to drive them off to. Nor can we remove their food source, as it appears to be essential parts of the station itself. However, we could seal off the areas they have already infested and set up traps that are more appealing than the wiring.” Although that could take time. Perhaps there was a more high-tech solution for this. Thinking quickly, she looked between the engineer and the doctor, who had both been summoned for the different perspectives they would bring to this problem. “I know that the transporters are typically used only on more complex life forms, but is there any way that they could be reconfigured to scan for the shrews’ life signs and beam them into one place?” This she directed towards K’Dex. To the doctor she asked, “Or could you synthesize a substance that would render them unconscious en masse without killing them?”tag K'Dex Jovireh Velal Judith Eastman [Lt. It was only a question of killing first, or catching and then killing. "And if we make the traps fatal, we don't need them sturdy enough to hold them, so that's a lot simpler engineering-wise."

[ T’Laara - Science Lab] The engineer and the doctor gave some valuable input on how they might practically start to design the traps, and then Mabel once again raised the question of what would happen afterwards. While T’Laara knew that if it truly was the only option, they would have to exterminate the shrews, she wasn’t quite ready to give up without at least trying to discuss some alternatives. And something Mabel said caught her interest, although in the opposite way as intended. “The Mac is going on a diplomatic mission to Caldonia, within the next month, isn’t it?” Maybe she wasn’t exactly supposed to know this yet, but T’Laara did tend to keep a pointed ear to the ground. “Why should we not take them back? The most humane solution for the shrews actually would be to release them into their natural habitat. Perhaps a science team could ride along and do just that.” She could even, perhaps, go herself. However, it would not matter if they intended to exterminate them or not without an effective plan for catching them. “Regardless of their fate, I do agree that tritanium would be an effective lure.” T’Laara looked back to K’Dex; how they actually ended up building the traps, while working around the malfunctions, was ultimately more of an engineering problem, and may end up answering the debate for them. Judith Eastman K'Dex Jovireh Velal [Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Science Lab]Dr. Paawin nodded in agreement as the Vulcan scientist spoke about taking them back to Caldonia. "Just because they're a problem for us, doesn't mean they're a problem for Caldonia. For all we know they're essential to the ecosystem there." He shifted his attention to the Caitian beside him, making the decision as the current ranking officer in the room. "Ensign, go ahead and round up all the tritanium you can and meet me in Holosuite One. If the two of you - " focus shifted to Mabel and T'Laara as he continued. " - can get me access to the ventilation systems to that holosuite, and have Security block off the deck... Send all the information you have on these little guys to Sickbay. We can bait them in, use a gas to knock them out, then put them in stasis until we figure out what to do with them." It was as good of a plan as any, and they needed to act fast before the rodents decided to chew through lifesupport. Thankfully he hadn't detected any signs of contagious illness in the one he scanned, so the odds of a disease spreading amongst the crew before they could get the infestation under control was slim. "I'll be in Sickbay synthesizing that anesthesia if you need anything. Ensign, let me know when you're on your way to the holosuite." Baiting the rodents to the holosuite would probably take the longest, and they'd likely have to shut down power to a majority of the station to route them in the right direction. But he would leave those details up to the engineers. Leaving the science lab, he headed back towards Sickbay.

Tom appeared confused for the moment as he was doubled teamed about a situation. He had no idea what they were talking about and they were not explaining. Tom just shook his head and said “ok…how about we stop with this secret police stuff and talk like adults. First, you are not telling me anything which I can help you. Second, no you cannot search my ship unless you give me an explanation of what’s going on. Third, yeah I don’t have an issue giving you my logs but once again can you tell me why? Fourth, your security was wearing plain clothes. Fifth, you are all getting awful close to textbook for harassment as I am 99.99% sure you did not have a warrant to tail me and to detain me now as I would be told the probable cause of the stop.” . Tom stopped for a second as he appeared visibly annoyed as he did not have an idea of what is going on. “If I can give a suggestion Captain. I don’t know it might be a good idea, to give me an idea of what you are after. Like I said I honestly don’t know what you are talking about. I cannot double flush a toilet without you guys studying it. So please one of you start talking a little more than threats. Do you go straight from diplomacy to threats? You are acting more like Cardassians than Starfleet. . Tom finished with his rant. He would help them if he had an idea of what is happening. “The only thing that I can think of is that Engineering was ticked off of my complaint of the docking failures.” . Tom theorized out loud as he was grasping at straws. Judith Eastman Matthew HarmonSven Aune

[Outside of Engineering] Tom smiled at the kid as they wondered. He was ready to take the child to a hole in the wall bar which made the best pizza on the Station. The place was shady and had some rough people but for some reason, they know how to make a greasy down to good pizza. As he mentioned about his digestive system, Tom could not help but nod. The food was supposed to be great. “Behold your life is about to change” . [Promenade – Whole in the Wall Bar] They approached the dim lightroom. The floor was kept decent. But it was ok. He observed the child as he sat at the Bar. He struggled a little bit and observed him in the bar stool. Jett took his seat next to him and listened to the question. He wanted to know what Pizza was. “Nah, not Rigellian. It’s ancient Earth Food. It’s pretty much dough, Tomato sauce, tons of cheese, and maybe some meats”. Tom wondered which one he would order but since this is the first time he would try and keep it simple. “Barkeep, give me a Synthale, double pepperoni pizza and some Coke” Tom would wait for a second as the person took their order and handed their drinks. “Rule No. 1 about Pizza. Never eat Healthily. Rule No. 2 Always have holodeck games afterward “ Some said as he told the kid some fun rules. He grabbed his Synthale glass and said “Cheers!” As soon as he finished he observed a Security Officer. Tom knew that whole in the wall bars is not exactly the place for them to hang out. He wanted something. Security must have seen what happened . Tom though. Thinking that the kid was the culprit. Tom turned around from his chair and stood up. He tried to shield the child from security. He observed and thought of his options. This security officer looks big. Even big enough that he might be nervous stalling time for the kid. As the security officer approached he mentioned his name. Tom was a little surprised that security was after him. As they wanted him to come with him. “It looks like we are getting the Pizza to go kid.” . He told Mott. He nodded at the Barkeep and tossed some money at the bar table. “Ok…lead the way. Where too?” . Tom said as he wanted to know where he was going. He was not putting a fight or anything as there was a chance the Bolian kid might get hurt in any struggle. Tag Avi Moz Sven Aune [ Mott Moz | Bar, Promenade ]The excitement was building. The pizza sounded delicious, cheese was now a player, and there were rules. Mott fully appreciated a bit of ritual around eating. It brought people together. But the fun was over. Mott knew security when he saw it but he'd never seen a person of any species as big as this one, not even a Klingon. He wasn't alone either - there were two of them and Mott saw the phasers at their hips. Mott knew better than to run: first, they weren't here for him, and second he didn't think he'd be able to slip past them. So instead, as quietly as he could, Mott slid down from the stool to all but disappear behind Thomas Jett. Maybe Thomas Jett was a pirate, a real one. That would certainly be a pity for him to get nicked. Not least because now Mott might not get to try pizza. "Careful," he whispered. "Don't get zapped, ochi."At least Jett didn't seem worried - like this had happened to him either zero times or a thousand times. With a big sigh, Mott momentarily accepted the indignity of being treated like a little kid. They just didn't know that he could handle himself. "I don't know, papaponi?" He didn't remember the word Jett had used. He watched the giant and Jett walk off, for the moment, more peeved about the cool pirate being carted away than his third meal of the day. "Where are they going?" he asked Alice. "He didn't do anything."Thomas Jett , Sven Aune (Alice) [ SCPO Melihn Ryah - Promenade - Bar] As Ryah started her renewed patrol of the promenade, she caught sight of Sven walking off with Jett in the distance. Good, she thought with a nod. At least that seems to have gone well. She meandered at a slow pace, doing visual sweeps to each side, deciding to have a look at where Jett had been found. Many shops had been forced to close, likely because there were just too many malfunctions at this point to function safely. She hoped that the situation would be resolved soon. Ryah approached the bar and her brow furrowed as she saw the Starfleet officer squatting next to what appeared to be a Bolian child. Young man, she said, keeping her tone fairly light. You really shouldn't be in here. She gave the man behind the bar a reproving look. He shrugged and grunted, They ordered food. After a moment's hesitation, Ryah said, All right, we can wait for the food, but then he needs to go.
Crewman, I can take it from here, she said to Alice. Be a few minutes, the barman muttered.

Judith Eastman Matthew Harmon Sven Aune [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Commanding Officer's Office]Jett's ranting and raving was the same Jett they knew and hated, with the ego the size of a planet and no self-awareness. His accusations reminded Judy of a teenage boy's temper tantrum (she'd raised three of those), so a wry half-smile crossed her face. "Gul Eastman does have a nice ring to it," she quipped, brushing off his whole tirade. "We have an infestation of rodents, and reason to believe that they got onto the station by hitching a ride with your ship the last time you were here, from one of your previous ports of call. Right now, it's a public health investigation."She sat down at the conference table and crossed her legs. "Other than walking uninvited into Main Engineering, you're not in trouble, and I'm willing to forgive even that," she concluded. Jett would do well to remember that just by being a schmuck, he committed a good number of petty crimes every day, like trespassing in Starfleet facilities.

[LCDR Matthew Harmon - CO’s Office] Ah, here we go, Harmon thought as Jett begun his tirade. His earlier absence of bluster turned out to be too good to be true after all. The Captain responded with the good cop routine, requiring the intelligence officer to follow up as the bad cop. “Are you done?” He asked with disdain. “It doesn’t matter what they were wearing or even who they are. You can’t just assault someone like that. You were in a public place, while no warrant was required, we had the legal authority to do so. If you believe you’re rights have been violated, feel free to make a complaint to the JAG office on Cait. Give my regards to Commander Sussex if you do,” he said implying he knew the head of Cait’s JAG office well enough. “We’ve got you for assault and trespassing, and that’s only in a couple of hours. If you’d like to spend at least the next few days in the Brig, let me know. Otherwise, you can help us with our shrew problem,” he said. “Besides, think of it this way, if you did bring them aboard then we’ll be providing you pest control free of charge. You come out on top. Unless there’s something on your ship that you don’t want us to see...” he added flippantly. Tag: Judith Eastman, Thomas Jett

[Co’s Office] Tom listened to Judy’s Statement as she responded with a smirk and smile. She thought she knew everything, but she was as much in the dark as everyone else in reality. As she listened to the explanation, Jett placed his hand on his chin and asked , “Could this be related to the malfunction on the docking port, when the primary, backup, and secondary backup all failed at the same time and required to take manual control?” Tom noticed that they were Malfunctions on the Falcon, but it was nothing unusual as it was a heavily modified NX ship. It has speed and scanners, and outdated weapons. Maybe it was all related. “I followed appropriate decontamination protocols. Tom placed his hand under his chin as he wondered. He thought to himself that HE followed the protocols, but maybe someone in the ship has not. Aella would have followed the protocols as she was also former Starfleet. She also had been with him long enough to know the importance of them. Then he wondered about Roger, the recent addition of his crew. “Could it be?....Right under my nose” , Jett spoke out loud as he wondered about the situation. “But what would be his motive?” . Jett continued. There was a way that they both could cooperate and get what they wanted. He was about to give authorization and come up with a plan. When Harmon spoke, Jett responded , “Does it make you feel better? Was that really necessary?” Jett asked Harmon. “IF what you are saying is true, Captain. Then I might have two types of vermin on my ship. I understand the importance of decontamination protocols. In fact, we could cooperate and solve two problems at once.” . He added. As he believed that Jett then looked and said , “The problem is this. I felt threatened instead of talking to me. And if I cooperate, you might think it was due to your threats. I don’t deal well with threats. If you had asked me nicely, I would have cooperated. Now you have me in a bind. Because I don’t want to set a precedent that the way for me to cooperate with you is due by threats instead of communication.” . Jett then placed his hands as he wanted to surrender. “So I guess brig it is” Tags Judith Eastman Matthew Harmon

Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Commanding Officer's Office]Ah, there it was, that force that had stifled human development so very often - testosterone. There was far, far too much of it in this room right now. It wasn't hard to imagine that Jett felt emasculated, especially given how macho he was normally, and the collision course she'd inadvertently set Harmon on with the traitor was contributing to that. "Mr. Harmon, can you wait in the antechamber for just a moment?" she asked the Intel officer, avoiding a direct order. Jett didn't know it, but the antechamber was designed so that one sitting at Mabel's desk could hear into the main room. With 50% less testosterone in the room, she turned to Jett. "Do you want a do-over on that answer?"By sending Harmon out, implying that she was setting the threats aside, she had given him a ladder to get down from the proverbial tree he'd climbed on. It was his to take, or leave.

[CO’s Office] Tom walked to the CO’s Office following his instructions. With the Kid around security and whatever he did could be implicated to the kid. Tom did not create any issues as remained silent as he did not know or had an idea why the CO’s going to talk to him. As Tom entered the Officer he looked around and said “Reporting as requested” . He said in a deadpan tone as he awaited to hear why he was summoned. [LCDR Matthew Harmon - CO’s Office] The traitor was soon brought in for questioning by Sven. His blunt and deadpan ‘reporting as requested’ response as he faced the Captain almost took Harmon off guard. He was usually full of bluster and bombast, but seemed to be suppressing that for now. Or more likely, perhaps he was waiting for an opening. “I’ll be asking the questions,” he said with a passive aggressive smile. “First, we...request you allow Security to inspect your vessel. It would be wise to acquiesce now before charges of assault against those security officers are filed,” he said implying life would be made very difficult for him if he didn’t give them what they wanted. “Secondly, we require a list of all locations your vessel has docked with in the past two weeks.” [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & PO3 Roland L. Jenkins - Commanding Officer's Office]Jett's lack of bluster was a surprise, and perhaps one that would serve them well. Judy rose from her chair to approach Sven. "Search the docking bays he's stopped at, look for traces of suspicious organic materials," the Captain ordered. "Take Jenkins with you; he's great at keeping records.""Yes, ma'am, sir," Jenkins reported in, standing at attention with his PADD in hand. Judy turned back to Harmon and Jett. "Trust me, Mr. Jett, this goes a lot better for you if you help," the Captain said, not quite playing good cop but at least decent cop.

"I think we can make that work."Lightly caveating, Judy was sure not to make a promise she wasn't dead certain she could keep. "Mr. Harmon, you can come back!" she raised her voice to summon the Intel officer. "I'd like you to tell your crew that the Falcon will be staying here for a week or two. Anyone who gets spooked by spending so long under our watch and tries to leave the station will self-identify as a suspect. This was what the Captain assumed, and telling her was simply inefficient. The discovery of the box was something the Captain might care a lot more about. "Box of organic material. Ozu Saya (Ryah) [ SCPO Melihn Ryah - Bar - Promenade] Ryah rocked on her heels as her eyebrows rose in surprise at the young Bolian's identification of her rank. The tiny stars on her insignia were difficult to see and most people seemed more familiar with commissioned ranks. She smiled at the boy and replied, ' Thank you, but you still have to leave once you get your pizza. Minors aren't supposed to be in establishments that primarily serve the function of serving alcohol, even if they also serve food. And the proprietors aren't supposed to serve you if you do come in.' She went on, not wanting the boy to think she was too severe. After all, it was the middle of the afternoon. Most of the rougher crowds wouldn't be in until much later. She'd make a note in the bar's file to keep an eye on things, but wouldn't take it any further. ' I'm impressed that you're familiar with Starfleet non-commissioned ranks. That's unusual. Are you interested in enlisting in Starfleet?' ---------- Tag Avi Moz
