[LCDR Matthew Harmon - CO’s Office] Harmon rolled his eyes as Jett responded. The man saw everything in conspiracies more than he did. When Jett then spoke of how he would have cooperated if asked nicely, Harmon scoffed. He didn’t deserve respect. Besides, civility was overrated. The Captain then sent him outside, which he obliged without any argument, recognising that he was there to play a part and that he had done it. Now she could play good cop, and woo him into helping and feeling like he had won. Harmon listened from the antechamber. It was cute almost cute Jett seemed to believe he had much choice in the mater. He soon returned once summoned and didn’t say a word until the Captain invited him to. It would be interesting to see how Jett responded to Harmon being put in charge. “We’ll keep an eye on your crew from afar. You should do the same, you know them so you’d recognise anything out of the ordinary better than we would. I’ll need what background you have on them,” his tone was now a bland and professional one, as opposed to the one heavy with disdain and hate he usually reserved for the man who’d gotten the intelligence officers friends and colleagues killed. [ T’Laara - Science Lab] The engineer and the doctor gave some valuable input on how they might practically start to design the traps, and then Mabel once again raised the question of what would happen afterwards. While T’Laara knew that if it truly was the only option, they would have to exterminate the shrews, she wasn’t quite ready to give up without at least trying to discuss some alternatives. And something Mabel said caught her interest, although in the opposite way as intended. “The Mac is going on a diplomatic mission to Caldonia, within the next month, isn’t it?” Maybe she wasn’t exactly supposed to know this yet, but T’Laara did tend to keep a pointed ear to the ground. “Why should we not take them back? The most humane solution for the shrews actually would be to release them into their natural habitat. Perhaps a science team could ride along and do just that.” She could even, perhaps, go herself. However, it would not matter if they intended to exterminate them or not without an effective plan for catching them. “Regardless of their fate, I do agree that tritanium would be an effective lure.” T’Laara looked back to K’Dex; how they actually ended up building the traps, while working around the malfunctions, was ultimately more of an engineering problem, and may end up answering the debate for them. [Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Science Lab]Dr. Paawin nodded in agreement as the Vulcan scientist spoke about taking them back to Caldonia. "Just because they're a problem for us, doesn't mean they're a problem for Caldonia. For all we know they're essential to the ecosystem there." He shifted his attention to the Caitian beside him, making the decision as the current ranking officer in the room. "Ensign, go ahead and round up all the tritanium you can and meet me in Holosuite One. If the two of you - " focus shifted to Mabel and T'Laara as he continued. " - can get me access to the ventilation systems to that holosuite, and have Security block off the deck... Send all the information you have on these little guys to Sickbay. We can bait them in, use a gas to knock them out, then put them in stasis until we figure out what to do with them." It was as good of a plan as any, and they needed to act fast before the rodents decided to chew through lifesupport. Thankfully he hadn't detected any signs of contagious illness in the one he scanned, so the odds of a disease spreading amongst the crew before they could get the infestation under control was slim. "I'll be in Sickbay synthesizing that anesthesia if you need anything. Ensign, let me know when you're on your way to the holosuite." Baiting the rodents to the holosuite would probably take the longest, and they'd likely have to shut down power to a majority of the station to route them in the right direction. But he would leave those details up to the engineers. Leaving the science lab, he headed back towards Sickbay. [NPC - Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen - Science Lab]Sending the animals home to Caldonia was a good idea, even if Harmon was probably going to get upset. The upcoming summit wasn't supposed to be public knowledge, and having to bring along some pests was a diplomatic wrinkle. But it beat killing them. "Let's do that."Dr. Paawin nominally outranked Mabel, but as the Captain's representative, her words carried a certain weight. =A= "Henriksen to security. Clear out deck 31," =A= she ordered, as she authorized the doc's credentials to allow him the necessary access. All the science-y stuff, she left to T'Laara.

[ SCPO Melihn Ryah - Bar - Promenade ] Ryah rocked on her heels as her eyebrows rose in surprise at the young Bolian's identification of her rank. The tiny stars on her insignia were difficult to see and most people seemed more familiar with commissioned ranks. She smiled at the boy and replied, ' Thank you, but you still have to leave once you get your pizza. Minors aren't supposed to be in establishments that primarily serve the function of serving alcohol, even if they also serve food. And the proprietors aren't supposed to serve you if you do come in.' She went on, not wanting the boy to think she was too severe. After all, it was the middle of the afternoon. Most of the rougher crowds wouldn't be in until much later. She'd make a note in the bar's file to keep an eye on things, but wouldn't take it any further. ' I'm impressed that you're familiar with Starfleet non-commissioned ranks. That's unusual. Are you interested in enlisting in Starfleet?' [ Avi Moz, Mott Moz | Bar, Promenade ]«Are you f*cking kidding me!» Avi Moz came stalking into the bar, swearing at Mott in their shared native tongue, Bolian. «I told you to stay put!» Mott jumped down from the stool and put his hands behind his back. «Nothing! I was looking for you!»Avi gestured at the space they were in. «In a bar? Don't feed me that.» Then Avi turned to her old friend Station Security. Oh, how they got along. At least it wasn't that ogre Aune. "What did he do?" she asked Melihn with a joyless smile. "No-thing," Mott insisted in a sing-song.

[Co’s Office] As Jett heard that Harmon was in charge, Tom responded with a slight nod. There were no complaints or anything. At the moment, they had a mutual interest, and the quicker they get it done. The faster they can get away from one another, as Harmon approached with professionalism. Jett nodded and responded in the same tone. He grabbed an empty PADD and began accessing the information. He placed the first one down on the table. He opened up and continued “This is the complete navigational log of the Falcon. It’s organized Chronologically and under Starfleet Standards, so it should be easy to read. With this and the creature, if it came from the Falcon, we could pinpoint both the origin and the arrival time. The reason why the arrival time it’s important. It’s because we need to cross-examine the roster included independent contractor file.” Tom handed the other one. The logs were complete, and it was unedited. The Pattern was not normal as it appeared at first sight that it was more random than anything else. The Pattern was not good from a time, financial and heavy markets. So from a first glance, it appeared that he was just going where he pleases with no rhyme or reason. Tom then opened the main computer. “There are two people that have been on the ship for a prolonged period of time. The first one is the First Officer Aella” Tom placed a picture of her. Tom continued “Former Marquis member. Fought against the Federation. We actually met when we were on opposite sides. Lost her Husband at Federation hands. When she is not doing that, she is probably in the gym or some underground fights. She has been with me for a while and never given me anything to doubt her. . Tom finished as he placed another PADD with a picture. “You might recognize this one. . Jett spoke. “Roger Anderson. Former Starfleet, dishonorably discharged for disciplinary reasons. I believe he was a Lieutenant and not an impressive record. He was homeless in Torros and was starving. I offered him a second chance. For his activities, I don’t know. I asked him to join me a couple of times, but he always appeared busy. I have no idea where he goes in his free time. I know he does not go to the hole in the wall bars and casinos since I frequent those. But he recently joined. . Tom explained. He believed he gave the information requested. If he had the authority, he would request Anderson's location and find out what he was doing, but it was not his operation. “I agree we need to keep our distance and find out what they are doing if they are responsible. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Commanding Officer's Office]"Mr. Jett, from our own estimates, we think they arrived about a month ago, maybe a little over, so that's our arrival time range right there," Judy pointed out, matter-of-factly, before Jett launched into describing his people. It was, perhaps, predictable that he surrounded himself with people with an axe to grind against Starfleet. It made his crew even less trustworthy, and yet... "While we're examining that, we also need to account for the possibility that this is negligence, not malice. Just as something to keep in our heads."Donning her reading glasses, she skimmed the nav log briefly (setting the PADD between herself and Matthew), until she got a ping from her personal PADD. She retrieved the device (adorned on its back with a photo of Judy, Max, and the grandkids) from her handbag, and pulled up the message that caused the ping. It was Jenkins' report. "Oy vey iz mir," the Captain muttered, her features turning slightly paler than usual. "Looks like they came from Caldonia. Please tell me you're not wanted there," she revealed, peering over the spectacles. Even Jett, for all the vileness of his treason, didn't deserve to spend the rest of his life in a Caldonian labor camp.

It appeared that both the doctor and Mabel saw the logic in the idea of releasing them back into the wild on Caldonia. That was one problem solved, at least in theory. “Very well. Sending all the data to sickbay now.” Now, it was time to split up as they prepared to put the plan into action. “I can help you gather the tritanium,” she offered to K’Dex. While the engineer would know what to look for, and have better access to it, it sounded like a job that could use another pair of hands. She could then work with him in figuring out the most effective way to use it to lure the shrews. “We will meet back on Deck 31 when we are done preparing the traps.”Judith Eastman K'Dex Jovireh Velal

[LCDR Matthew Harmon - CO’s Office] Harmon listened carefully and took a mental note of what Jett said. The Captain was right though, negligence was just as likely, or even arguably more likely. Occam’s Razor, after all. The mention of Caldonia however, piqued his interest. “You were at Caldonia?” He asked. Tag: Judith Eastman, Thomas Jett

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Sickbay ---> Deck 31]As expected, it didn't take long at all to synthesize the anesthetic. Using the database information as well as the scans to determine compounds and dosage, he soon had a crate of cannisters and was carrying them down to the holosuite. In order to prevent unintentionally knocking out any people, it would be best to inject it straight into the holosuite's ventilation system that could be separated from that of the rest of the station. After a brief pause to clear himself through the security checkpoint, he was grateful to see they had already gotten everyone else off the deck. Stopping outside the holosuite to wait for the others, he set the crate down and tapped his combadge. =A="Dr. Paawin to Engineering. We have a way to lure the rodents and trap them in Holosuite One. But in order for our bait to work, we'll need to cut out their current food supply. Can you temporarily cut power everywhere except Deck 31?"=A= Without the juice flowing through the wires, hopefully they'd go searching for an active power source. It would likely take some time with how widespread the infestation was, but it would also give the repairs crews a chance to catch up without the rodents causing more damage.

=/\= ' Ozu to Eastman. Captain, I've just given permission for Engineering to shut down the power grid temporarily. Apparently, there's a solution in the works.' =/\= [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Commanding Officer's Office]This was not the start Judy wanted for her Captaincy. In fact, beneath her calm facade, she was pretty pissed off. She took a deep breath. =A= "Next time, young lady, give me more of a heads-up, and bring the power back in three minutes," =A= she admonished. Beneath her level-headed mannerisms, Saya would surely recognize disappointments, and maybe hints of anger. Judy took a deep breath. Saya had made a mistake, but the crew and the civilian population shouldn't know that. She had to affect normalcy, and she was quite good at that. =A= "All hands, this is Captain Eastman. First of all, I want to reassure you that our systems are intact, and that main power will be back in ten minutes at most. We have switched off main power, in order to further a solution to our latest malfunctions. For the time being, until the lights come on, please stay where you are. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, and I promise, we'll be back to normal very soon." =A= Judy's announcement was as professional as always, an island of calm to her worried populace. From hearing her, only Max (attuned after two decades to the subtlest fluctuations in how Judy spoke) could tell that she was angry. =A= "Eastman to security. Deploy crowd control to the promenade. Be as subtle about it as possible, but be on the lookout for panic. The last thing we need is a mob mentality setting in." =A= Saya was in trouble, but that didn't mean naptime for Jett. "So, Mr. Jett, Caldonia?"

[ T’Laara - Deck 31] As arranged, some time later T’Laara arrived on Deck 31 carrying an armload of tritanium parts. She nodded in greeting to Dr. Paawin. “Ready?” While he made the call to Engineering, she entered the holosuite and placed the tritanium in the conduit access points. When that was complete, she stepped back out the door to the sealed area where the anesthesia would soon be deployed and stood next to the doctor to wait. The lights went out, and with them went the warmth and attraction of the power grid for the shrews. With any luck, those closest would be drawn to the power of Deck 31 and soon more would follow. T’Laara stood silently, her sensitive ears listening hard for the sounds of tiny scurrying feet and the squeaks that would alert other shrews to the discovery of the tritanium lures. tag Jovireh Velal

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Deck 31]While T'Laara got the bait set up, Riyo injected the canisters into the ventilations system, and closed off the vents that lead away from the holosuite. Engineering got their request approved, and he could hear the usual dull hum of power in the station fall silent. Of course, they still had light where they were, but he could only imagine how eerie it must have suddenly become everywhere else. The Captain's voice came over the com reassuring everyone that this was planned and under control... And then silence. Both he and the Vulcan were listening intently for any signs that the rodents had found the bait. His fingers hovered over the controls, unaware he was holding his breath, gaze focused on the security cameras as he listened. Then there was a scratch. A squeak. A rustling. And a lone curious shrew entered the holosuite from... somewhere... pausing and sniffing at the air before scampering to the nearest tritanium. Then a second one. Followed by a handful. It was working. Riyo waited until there was a group of shrews gathered around each of the bait stations, each squeaking their excitement at the find, before he began to slowly release the gas into the holosuite. Just a little bit at first, just enough to start filling the air at the top of the room. It would take awhile for it to fill enough to reach the shrews on the floor, and by then there would hopefully be a steady stream of them following the squeaks to the new food source. It wouldn't work to knock them all out too quickly, they still had an entire station of shrews to attract the attention of.

[ Avi Moz, Mott Moz | Bar, Promenade -> Avi's Workshop ]"Bye!" Mott waved as the security officer left and then cracked open the box and inhaled deeply. The pizza was bigger than he'd guessed, and each little pepproni a crispy cup holding a tiny offering of grease. He reached in to begin, but Avi tapped the back of his head. "Not here. Take it with you. Come on," she said. The pizza was big enough it would entertain him for another hour at least if she could get him back to the workshop. Then maybe she could get some shit done today. And then the lights went off. Mott screamed boyishly then giggled and pretended to fall off the stool in the dark. Dim runner lights clicked on and Eastman's voice came over the public address. Avi had a light in with her other tools so there was no 'stay where you are' in her mind. "Come on," she urged Mott. Mott had about the same read on which rules applied to them as Avi did, so snagged his giant pizza in the giant pizza box and followed Avi out and across the promenade back to the shadowy workshop. Exit Avi and Mott
