About midway between the December and January missions/events[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) et al - Park, Front Ear Station]Judy and Thea, as the new command team[fn] See thread to explore how this came to be[/fn], had scheduled a celebration of the crew’s achievements, taking place just days after the two of them assumed their new jobs. Despite what had been a difficult 9 months, they all had achieved a great deal, and there was much to be proud of. In fact, Judy interpreted the decision to promote her, rather than bringing in someone from the outside, as validation that the crew’s way of doing things (not just hers personally) was working. The park, having recovered well from the fire that had burned in August, was as verdant and beautiful as ever, and filled with refreshments[fn]Including booze, Matthew Harmon [/fn] for the crew, catered by several of the station’s popular businesses. There was also a small stage set up, for all the intended promotion ceremonies, and a lectern, for some (brief) remarks. Judy herself came accompanied by her family, although as they broke off to explore the space, Michael and Max were the only ones who stayed beside the new Captain. Michael was set to formally “promote” her, which is to say he would mime pinning on the 4th pip (in a concession to the 6-year-old’s limited skills, it was already pinned in advance onto her dress uniform), and he was as excitable as she’d ever seen him. For now, the trio perused the food options.

[Crewman Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Park]
It was still rather surreal for her. After six years of active duty, she'd finally gotten promoted, and after only a couple of months with this crew. The only thing that kept her from thinking it was a dream, was that she had stopped thinking about getting promoted a long time ago. The Captain had given her the option of opting out of this ceremony if she didn't want to be in a spotlight, but Jov wanted the confirmation the publicity would provide.
So she'd donned her dress uniform once more, trying her best not to think about the last time she'd worn it, and joined the party in the park. Upon seeing the decorations, the tables laden with food and beverages, it was even harder not to think of Kaelpra, and imagine him excitedly asking her what he should try first. He saw the potential in her when she hadn't been able to see it for herself, and she knew he would have been here had things not happened the way they did.
Just like her father would be proud of how far she'd come over the past dozen years. Her chest ached and a lump formed in her throat, so she quickly pushed the thoughts from her mind and approached the beverage table. She sent up a silent prayer of gratitude upon seeing the alcoholic options. Judy and Max were at the next table over, and Jov gave them a nod and smile of greeting before pouring herself a glass of Saurian brandy. It may not give off the best impression, but she was comfortable that the newly promoted Captain would understand the emotional nature this event had for her.

[Park - Deck 6, Front Ear] Having gone with a dress uniform to match her new position. Thea had to admit that the red was beginning to grow on her even if she would always be a member of team teal. That analogy made her grin as she entered the park, taking a moment to appreciate seeing her and Judy's plan come to fruition and the people who where already present. She might still be getting used to the changes but at least she had Isaiah's love and support, not to mention the excitement now that they had moved in together. In fact before she did anything else, Thea turned to her date for the evening and smiled as she remembered their first time running together in this very park. " A little different than running in here but I'm sure we'll have just as much fun".

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Park, Deck 6, Front Ear Station ] As Kova entered the park, her eyes scanned the area. She began to wonder how humans got anything done with all the celebrating they did. It felt as if every time she turned around there was something to celebrate. Perhaps they simply enjoyed not dying on a daily basis... certainly not from a lack of trying. And then there was the 'encouraged' attendance. One of these days, the Andorian would simply have to be busy during one of these celebrations. She found some satisfaction that it wasn't being held in the Holodeck. That death trap had yet to be cordoned off. Clearly, these humans preferred to flirt with danger. Her eyes finally settled upon someone that had proven to be not as annoying as many she had encountered. It was Jovireh Velal. She had seen her occasionally around the Security office, but had never engaged her directly in conversation. It hardly seemed practical unless the job necessitated it. Then again, humans were notorious for the need to engage in small talk. She approached the table where Velal was and poured herself a Saurian brandy as well. At least they were serving sensible drinks and not the watered down Terran stuff. Sometimes it seemed that synthehol was more potent than their spirits. She noticed what appeared to be an uncomfortable nod to the new captain. Perhaps Velal was more of a kindred spirit than she gave her credit for. "Are you being forced to be here as well?" she asked quietly.

[PO3 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Park]A flash of blue beside her caught her attention, and for a brief moment she smiled before realizing it was the wrong shade of blue. Glad she had kept her initial greeting to herself, she looked over at the female Andorian that did look vaguely familiar. From around the security office, right? But not Starfleet. And not a 'frequent flier'. Hearing the question about being forced to be there, Jovireh grinned, taking a small sip of her brandy before replying. "Unfortunately, yes. If my mother does not receive a holopic of my first promotion, she will call Eastman personally and harass her that it be done all over again. 'The right way'." Her mother wasn't as bad as some could be, from what she'd heard, but when it came to pride in her daughter's career, and wanting to show off Jov's accomplishments... She was as bad as they came. "Nobody needs that in their life." She gave the woman another amused grin before taking another sip. "So what about you? I didn't think civilians would be forced to attend." This socializing thing was thankfully getting a little easier for her the longer she was on the station. The fact that she had made it a few months without seriously offending anyone helped, as was she had obviously been doing her job well enough to not be under constant threat of disciplinary action. Both were reasons for her to relax a little, and the conversation provided a much needed distraction from where her thoughts had been going.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Park]Riyo couldn't remember the last time he had worn his dress uniform, and was grateful it still fit. Albeit a little tight in the shoulders... But that was no concern as he didn't foresee needing to lift anything heavier than a plate of food. While he rarely turned down an invitation to a party, he especially wanted to be at this one to support his colleague in her promotion. Taking on First Officer as well as maintaining CMO was a tall order, and he respected Commander Baker all the more for it. It was also the perfect excuse to go somewhere with Lea, to spend time together as well as socialize with their friends. So he entered the park with her at his side, looking around at the setup with a grin. "Looks a bit different than I remember," he joked, as it had only been a few days since their last 'family outing' with the kids.

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Park, Deck 6, Front Ear Station ] Quinn didn't care very much for dress uniforms, but he gladly made an exception for this occasion. In fact, the thing he liked most about his uniform was the accessory on his arm: Commander Thea Baker. He could certainly appreciate the hints of red in her uniform. He had always thought of blue as her color, but she wore the red rather well. As they arrived, there were always the subtle greetings and as expected a few congratulatory comments were sent Thea's way. He heard her words mention the first time they had met in the park. The memory brought a smile to Quinn's lips. "You're right. And if I remember correctly, this is where we had our first coherent conversation." It was true that they had met on the mission to Kerelia, but Thea hadn't exactly met him at his best. She'd been too busy saving his life then.

[Park - Front Ear] It had been such an honour to have been asked to help out with the catering for this big crew celebration and one that she couldn't turn down. But to also be able to attend as Riyo's date was just an added bonus as this would be their first official function as a couple. That alone was reason enough to not only support Thea as they had discussed, but to also spend time together and with people they called friends. So she had gone all out with a floor length blue gown with a slit up the side to compliment Riyo's dress uniform along with a blue and silver jewelled butterfly in her hair. There was still a happy glow surrounding her as they entered and Riyo joked about how different it had looked since the last time they were here. " It definitely does and its nice to be back as just us".Lea loved their family trips to the park but tonight they were child free and she looked forward to doing something a little different.

Tag: Thea Baker [Park - Deck 6, Front Ear] She may be one of the reasons for the party but for Thea, it was the chance to socialise and just as importantly spend quality time with Isaiah. Plus there was no hiding their relationship anymore as she kept her arm looped in his and acknowledged the greetings and congratulations that were sent her way. However her focus was firmly on Isaiah for the moment as he smiled and responded to the memory that she had shared with him. " It was and without having an angry holo chef shouting at us" she replied reminiscing about how saving his life had led to this and so much more.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Park, Deck 6, Front Ear Station ] Jovireh admitted to being coerced in attending, but the grin on her face suggested that she wasn't upset about it. Perhaps she admired the subtle coercion of humans. After all, she was part Romulan if Kova recalled the fact from her file correctly. They she quickly amended her declaration by mentioning that this was something that her mother wanted. "Ugh... maternal manipulation," Kova groaned as she took a drink. She was far too famillair with this particular subject. Though, she found herself somewhat envious of Jovireh's situation. "Consider yourself blessed. My mother preferred a mugshot."Kova took another sip of her brandy. She was actually thankful for the change of subject, but wouldn't be surprised if Jovireh tried to revive it later on. "Humans are clever in the art of manipulation. Moreso, than even Ferengi," Kova said. "How do you think the Federation started? They've whispered in the ears of mortal enemies and built a coalition to rival the most powerful empires in the known galaxy. Persuading civilians to attend a social function is child's play by comparison." Kova's eyes drifted again over to the table of the new Captain. It seemed Judy Eastman could be more formidable than she'd initially given the woman credit for.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) et al - Park]Judy acknowledged Jovireh with an understanding smile, as if to say "go to town", having herself relied on a little bit of booze to get through events when she was young. Now, however, she wasn't allowed this indulgence - and she didn't need it. Her attention was quickly redirected to Michael. "Who made this pizza?" the young grandson asked. "Grandpa and his friends at the Blue Beta did," Judy answered, drawing barely hidden disappointment from Michael. "We used Grandma's recipe," Max reassured, having long since accepted that while he was the professional chef, his wife's pizza recipe was just better. "Okay, that's good. No offense, Grandpa, but your pizza always has a lot of crust."Sufficiently placated, Michael took a slice of cheese pizza, while Judy filled her plates with a rigorous sampling of the cheese board. Max took several mini-quiches with a variety of fillings. Sufficiently armed with food, and seeing Jovireh engaged in conversation with the oh-so-misanthropic Andorian security consultant, Judy guided the group elsewhere, catching Lea in her bespectacled sight, with a man she believed was Dr. Paawin. "Lea, you look lovely," the Captain greeted her dear friend. "Riyo, how are you?" Max asked the Bajoran doctor, whom he'd encountered a couple of times, whether at the bar or when he accompanied Judy - cookies in hand - to visit Perry in the Mac's sickbay. Michael stood between his two grandparents.

[PO3 Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Park]The newly-appointed Petty Officer was relieved when she saw the reassuring smile the Captain gave her. Of course, after their in-depth conversation after the debacle with the Talorians, Judy probably understood her desire for alcohol to navigate the event far better than before. And it wasn't like she had smuggled it in, so really she shouldn't have been worried... Her attention turned back to Kova as she mentioned her mother's preference for mug shots. That caused a slight raise in her eyebrow, but instead of questioning it she just laughed and shook her head. "My mother saw plenty of those in our first year on Earth, before I enlisted. One more and her wrath would be directed at me." More like severe disappointment, but it was all the same to her. Kova then went on about the manipulative skills of the humans. It was something she had never considered before... But she did have a point. "I always attributed it to their arrogance. New kids in the galaxy, and they automatically think they know better than everyone else." It was refreshing not being the only one who had a less-than-stellar opinion of the race that dominated Starfleet. Though she still made certain to keep her voice low. The last thing she needed to do was offend someone who overheard them.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Park]Riyo lowered his head to murmur quietly. "You're definitely the best-looking one here," So maybe he was biased, but he did love the way the dress and butterfly complimented her. He straightened and turned just in time to see Comman- Captain Eastman and Max approaching them. He gave the other couple a nod and smile of greeting. "Hello Captain, Max. Good to see you both. Especially in a more pleasant environment." He offered his hand to Max to shake. He'd been grateful that Perry had received regular visits, but it was always better to see people when they weren't visiting the gravely injured.

Tag Thea Baker [Park - Deck 6, Front Ear] It was easy to forget that they weren't the only people present as Isaiah smiled at her words before agreeing to her idea of also checking out the buffet. So with that in mind and trying not to think about the possibility of spilling anything too obvious on her new dress uniform. With Isaiah escorting her across the park, Thea greeted those she knew as well as spotting other familiar faces as they stopped by the bar first. " What would you like... apart from me?" she teased quietly, before perusing the drinks list, glad that they had this and the beverage table. After all it was a party and she wasn't going to let the crew wait needlessly to get what they wanted.
